What do you think of Mishima and Shiho in general? I'm a Mishi-Phanboy and my main dynamic is Pegoryushima, Shishima, and Akeshima (all platonic btw), but I'm judgmental of my favorites, and the considering the way Atlus wrote him, I'm.... iffy. I differentiate between Atlus!Mishima, A-1!Mishima, and Fandom!Mishima. For me Mishima suffers the Xander effect to certain extents because of having different iterations, all of which have same elements.

Okay so I’ll do Shiho first because I have less to say, in general its hard to say I have a grasp of who she is, in game she seemed to serve as Ann’s motivation and trigger as well as an example of Kamoshida’s abuse. The reason I really don’t like Ann’s confidant is that its not about her and Shiho, I would love for that to be changed if they ever update P5 and have Ann and Akira working with Shiho after her suicide attempt. From what in game I was given of the character, I was happy to have someone at Shujin, who didn’t treat me like crap. (I don’t think I need her as a confidant, but she stills needs a bit more character)

As for Mishima, I’m neutral to him. I understand many like him and he seems to fill the roll as kinda your spokesperson, but I feel like he’s not given that much to do. Now that doesn’t mean I think Atlus completely messed him up, his relationship with Ryuji is often a highlight of the game.

I know the joke that Mishima is a total bitch for getting dragged in ryuji’s schemes, but lets be fair, all the theives go along with Ryuji’s ideas more than you’d expect for the person who is pretty evident as being not the sharpest knife in the drawer. So I don’t fault Mishima for geetting sucked into Ryuji’s madness and besides, I think he needs it. I think Mishima needs someone extroverted and loose like Ryuji in his life. Watching the two fumble with their maid plan is great. I can’t fully recall if he mentions if he was friends with Shiho or no, but considering they were both on the team, I think its safe to say they were aware of each other. As for Akechi… Hey that’s more in fanon territory so Im not passing judgement. Actually, I do think about Persona 4 characters and Persona 5 Characters meeting sometimes, and I switch betweeen similar personalities (like Yosuke and Ryuji, Chie and Makoto, Yukiko and Yusuke) or Tarots (so Kanji and Yusuke, Yukiko and Makoto, Noato and Chihaya), and I always find myself want Mishima to meet Ebihara. I think it would be an interesting dynamic given his passiveness and her assertiveness. Plus there are moments when you run into other confidants and I don’t know if this is possible, but maybe I’d be with Futaba and hope we ran into Mishima because they seem like they’d get along being easily glued to the screens.

Now I have problems (a lot of them) with A1′s Persona adaptation, but I do think thy made a good call on focusing on Mishima’s shadow. While I wouldn’t compare him to Xander because Xander in story is pretty bland, but reading his supports, he actually is so interesting that its a shame that its not reflected in the main story. Mishima in story is at time fun, if a little minimal, but is confidant isn’t too interesting. If you ask me and want my interpretation of how I would’ve done Mishima’s confidant, I’d like it to be about him being inspired by the phantom thieves, but realizing that he can’t rely on them to handle all problems, so he goes out and tries to change the heart of someone on his own with your help. Maybe the person they target is some small time pick-pocket, and Mishima develops a lot more confidence from trying to stand up and convince someone to confess without “changing their heart.” It would also serve to help the theme of showing that the thieves aren’t suppose to be the people the population relies on like with Yaldabaoth, the thieves are there break down the ridged hold of some people, but through that they’re making it so people can finally stand for themselves. (Course the game ending is very confused with everyone putting their trust in you to solve the problem even though its warning that kind of mentality is bad) And at the end of it, Mishima realizes he loves the thieves and what they stand for, but its because of that love that he should follow their example and try to help people the same way they helped him, not just make them all shoulder that burden.

And speaking of fanon, I know fanon loves this kid and I think that’s great, everyone having interpretations to minor characters is great. (I’d like to see him in his street clothes and not his uniform all the time) I always see a lot with his shadow. Now I personally don’t like the idea of his shadow being a maniplator, there was one that I once saw with Mishima as butler/maitre d, which is more like Ftaba and in the negative sense that he sees himself as only being able to serve. My personal version of his shadow (I made one for all confidants in my head, yes I’m a nerd) was actually a filmmaker, his shadow is like Kubrick, trying to make everything be how he visions it, with wanting the theives to be seen the same way as he sees them. (again my interpretation)

So I leave it up to whatever you want to interpret with fanon, hell I just wrote several Mishima headcanons right here, lemme know if you accept or reject them and I’ll be cool either way honestly because again, fanon. But as you can see, I still kinda am neutral to him and Shiho in general.
