     Surprise flashes through bright blue eyes, but her puzzlement lasts only a moment. Rosy lips curve into a gentle smile as she leans into the hug, her own arms coming to wrap around Akira, safe and warm. She doesn’t know how he does it, how he possibly knows each and every time she’s in need of affection, but she’s grateful all the same. 

     “I swear, it’s like you have some kind of alarm that goes off whenever I’m feeling down. Is it just one of those days where you need a hug and you don’t really know why? Not that I’m complaining...”

     Although Ann loved celebrating her own birthday, celebrating others’ brought her endless amounts of joy. She loved making other people happy, and spending more time with Makoto had been at the top of her list. It was just a relief the other girl hadn’t turned her down. Sometimes Ann worried that they didn’t have enough in common, that her interests didn’t align enough with many of the other Thieves, but Makoto’s own smile was enough to ease her anxiety. Honestly, they both needed a little time to just relax.

     “Maybe you shouldn’t ask me for recommendations. I’ve tried almost everything and it’s all good. The double chocolate one is definitely a favorite though! Oh! With extra cream! And the strawberry crepe is also pretty good, but I’d wait ‘til summer for that one. The berries are way sweeter in the warmer months.” Don’t even get her started on the cakes.

     Although she had attempted to cut back her sugar intake, Ann couldn’t deny herself a treat every now and then. There was something very comforting about opening the little pastry box from her favorite bakeries, or digging into a delicious crepe from the stand on Central. It was a simple thing, but on bad days something so small as a favorite dessert really made a difference. And, of course, they never made a good day any worse. Things could only get better.

     “What kind of things do you like though? There’s more than just crepes, and a bunch of stuff has fruit, so I’m sure there’s something you’ll like. It’s your birthday, after all--go nuts! Get whatever you want most!”

❝akira. will you hurry it up? i have limited time tonight and plans to make the reaper my bitch. precisely how much preparation do you need?❞ akechi, who’s made himself quite at home at one of leblanc’s booths while preparations for mementos are made, taps his foot impatiently. it’s entirely possible he’s consumed one too many (rather delicious) coffees while waiting and now all that excess energy translates to the need to kill something soon.

     There was something very amusing about the way Akechi complained, and the effects of the caffeine rush not lost on Akira. But impatient or otherwise, it was important to make sure they were ready to visit Mementos--especially when their quarry seemed to be the ever-present threat of death made manifest. The Reaper had stalked them relentlessly through the darkened halls of the underground labyrinth, but never had they elected to fight him directly. But with his and Akechi’s strength combined, then they might just stand a good chance.

     “Are you sure you really want to do this? You seem a little fussy.” Despite the evenness to both his tone and expression, the glint of mischief in those dark eyes was hard to miss. “Maybe you should have a nap instead.”

     Left some bruises, maybe, and maybe some memory loss from the chloroform, but Yukiko was still certain that her plan would have been for the best. In the end things turned out all right, but wouldn’t have kidnapping Yosuke before the culprit got to him have been easier? Yu had seemed on board, although she hadn’t given him all the details of her plan until afterward. At any rate, he would have gotten over it. A shame she didn’t get to use all that rope...

     It was unhealthy to feel this way about anyone, but try as he might Yosuke couldn’t shake the way Adachi got to him, got under his skin. Even as he felt himself start to shake he didn’t back down, didn’t even care about anything but the white-hot anger that bubbled up inside of him. In the grand scheme of things, no--Adachi wasn’t the worst. But right now, standing in front of him, sneering--he definitely was.

     “You think that kinda shit’s gonna work?” It might. It will. No matter how close Yosuke got to another person, there was always that doubt looming over him like a storm cloud, ready to burst. “The only loser in this room is you.”

     ‘ you can’t be serious ! ’ she’d complain more if she weren’t laughing at him right now . the great leader of the phantom thieves , who has escaped death more times than she probably knows about , has literally shot a god in the head , who saved everyone multiple times – is too scared to catch and release a bug ! 

     sumire waits until she’s calmed down , giving akira a teasingly pointed look . ‘ i’ll try my best not to die at the hands of a harmless , cute little ladybug . thank you for your support ! ’ she giggles , before entrapping the bug within a cup and opening the door to release it . 

                     ‘ we should probably talk about what just happened , senpai . ’

     Living in an attic meant sharing your bed with all things creepy and crawly--Akira was no stranger to bugs and spiders getting in, especially in the hotter months. But that didn’t mean he had to like them. How many times had he seen a spider drawing closer and closer on the rafters above his head? And how many times had he picked Morgana up and tried to get him to fight his battles? Somehow it always ended in screaming and scratched arms--and a missing intruder. 

     It was horrible.

     So when the ladybug flew past he immediately jumped, his heartrate picking up as his mind struggled to put a name to the creature. Had spiders learned how to fly? Oh, god, no--he didn’t want to think of that. But, to his credit, he hadn’t gotten a good look at what had landed on the bar of Leblanc. Really, it could have been anything--and Akira’s fear of insects kept him from getting a closer look.

     “--It threatened me.” Truly a criminal bug. What on earth was it doing in a café, anyway? They had one plant and it was lucky if Akira remembered to water it. “Didn’t you see?”
