AU where Quirin takes and raises Eugene after the DK falls
•| Send me a potential AU and I’ll tell you five fun facts |•
Oh you have no idea how much this enables me - I stand by Quirin raising Eugene until the end of time bc it’s what they BOTH deserve
1) Oki so, here we see Eugene taken away as a baby without disclosing an EXACT location — that will not stop Quirin though, who had a stance against cutting him off completely despite it being Edmunds orders [It made sense to send the boy away but to send him to an ORPHANAGE was another story] Quirin finds Eugene a month or so after they get separated, during that time he found a house and a stable farm to raise a kid on [Gotta have an income] and then promptly goes to the orphanage and adopts Eugene.
By then, Eugene’s name has already been changed and frankly... Quirin thinks it suits him, though he occasionally slips up and calls him Horace. He feels a duty to raise the Prince but also kinda has a “My son now” mentality! Disagrees with Edmunds choices + decides... His kingdom is doomed, so he’s gonna ensure Eugene gets a stable upbringing with KNOWLEDGE of the Dark Kingdom without necessarily telling him “Oh BTW you’re the prince”. Being a father is hard and he struggles a lot, esp in early days, it’s a whole new challenge from being a knight but... Not one he really regrets?
Cue some fluff! Knight-dad trying to raise a baby and establish a life in a new country — Over time he grows and becomes Village Leader + Develops a bond with the monarchs based on his knowledge and previous high-rank in society from being a knight! Gets offered a guard position but turns it down in favour of spending time with his toddler son. Eugenes first word is Dada and Quirins never felt so content. Baby fluff of Eugenes milestones — Quirin has Eugene helping on the fields as soon as he can toddle without tripping (tho it’s mostly Eugene playing and running around while Quirin works) Toddler Eugene is a little darling and knows exactly how to use his cuteness to get praise and sweets
2) Eugene starts thievery / acting out soon after Quirin dates and marries Ulla, though it soon become a hobby he usually indulges in with his friend Arnie [though they take on the names of the coolest book characters Flynn Rider and Lance Strongbow!] Quirin thinks it’s just a phase and leans into the whole calling Eugene ‘Flynn’ because... He really loves the books, that’s not too odd? Though he doesn’t know of crimes + just thinks they go out to play a lot. Eugene ignored Ulla for the first few weeks because he doesn’t like the idea of someone new staying around — He doesn’t hate her, it just raises a lot of questions about his mum that Quirin doesn’t know how to answer... He resolved on the explaination that she was very sick and couldn’t take care of him anymore, though loved him dearly — it’s enough to placate him.
Eugene doubles down on stealing when he’s 10 and suddenly there’s gonna be a new baby in the house. [He doesn’t WANT a sibling + worries Quirin will love the baby more than him since he knows he’s adopted & all that though is too scared to ask] Eugene grows an attitude and Quirin finds himself exhausted and constantly caught in petty bickers as Eugene keeps running away + acting up, especially to his wife (Who loves Eugene very much, of course) ‘Flynn’ declares he wants to travel the world and be far away from step-mums and nasty babies, uhhh Domestic fall out stuff?
Things change when baby gets here and suddenly Eugene is a big brother and Quirin is MORE distracted, sometimes they forget to even read him a story and he can’t stand the squirmy little creature... All it does is cry and take what little attention his misbehaviour had earned him... So naturally, petty crime continues + Eugene starts caring less about getting caught, so it becomes more risky. He and Lance befriend some bad influences and start taking Big Kid Crime. It’s fun! Until Eugene is brought home by a guard and Quirin gives him the silent treatment for the next week. Quirin... He loves his sons, both of them, but he just isn’t sure how to handle a distressed 11 year old and a baby, it feels like there’s not enough hours in the day and Eugene is SET on making life harder for everyone.
Eugene stays against ‘Varian’, frequently makes the baby the villain in his games and makes him cry on several occasions. It gets even worse when he starts crawling bc now he can’t get anytime alone, it’s just frustrating! The solution probably comes when Varians starting to talk and he says ‘Oo-gee’ as one of his first words — ‘Lisa’s first word’ style — and Quirin and Ulla admit that Varian is obsessed with Eugene. It’s sorta a wake up call for Eugene to start trying to get along with the kid, and it works! He finds it fun to teach him things & have someone to talk to (even if he just babbles back) By the time Eugene is 12 he’s calling Ulla mum and love spending time with his little brother
3) Right! When Eugene is about 18 he picks up theiving again, mostly because he isn’t suited to the farm life and it’s easy money (Plus how else is he gonna achieve his dream of financial independence?) He moves out the farm under the guise of finding a new life with his best friend, though they quickly realise it’s not amazing when they get tangled up with the Baron + his antics. Eugene visits home every so often and claims everything is fine, it’s going great, he doesn’t need any extra help + his life is just dandy. His dishonesty mostly bc he doesn’t wanna worry Quirin and there’s been a bit of a strain since Ulla passed away.
Life keeps on like this. Eugene ages, steals alchemy supplies for Varian and hides his true income source because he wants to make Quirin and Varian proud! Varian grows up to be more headstrong in what he wants because he has someone standing up for him and telling him he’s proud, though the longer Eugene spends away the harder it gets? He loves it when Eugenes here! But the house feels empty without him, and Quirin is so busy + stressed from Varians experiments that there’s still that desire to do more, prove himself.
4) Movie diverts a bit! Eugene finds out about the hair glow and thinks... If one person knows about this then it’s him, and takes Rapunzel to Old Corona over night rather than a campfire. Varian is ecstatic to see him though gets confused by a random girl Eugene claims to have just found — He’s about to ask questions when Eugene asks if Varian could do his magic thing to find out about her hair. Varian insists it’s alchemy and agrees, dragging Raps down into the lab! Boop gothel talks to her when Varians gathering all the equipment and talks her ear off about how cool Eugene is and asks how they found each other since the story is weird... Experiements start!
Meanwhile Eugene is talking to Quirin, when Quirin pulls out a wanted poster and puts it on the table. He finally found out about how bad Eugenes crimes are and wants answers. Now. Eugene sits and tries to explain its not what it looks like, but Quirin doesn’t wanna hear it. The disappointment is evident and Quirin criticises “I thought you grew out of this, what role model is this for Varian?” Eugene doesn’t have an answer but argues his case that it was to be reliant — and he doesn’t wanna do it anymore anyway! Quirin accuses him of using the girl, while Eugene insists her name is Rapunzel and he’s just helping her, get the crown, be set for life and never have to bother him again.
Their argument is cut short by a Varian coming back upstairs looking frazzled, says there’s something about the magic that’s familiar but he can’t place it — sure is strong tho, and continues gushing and asking Eugene for all the details of what he’s been up to. Eugene... Explains, his usual light-hearted rendition of a great quest, while Quirin leaves and stays upstairs the rest of the night.
Varian sees them off in the morning! Hours after they’re gone Vari is still looking into the magic thing — that’s when he remembers the old legend about a sundrop... about how it saved the Queen... About the Princess. Varian sneaks out the house and heads up to the lantern festival to tell Eugene and Rapunzel his revelation, but he gets there just as Eugene is being lead away by guards. Varian finds Max and tells him how they need to free Eugene + basically... Helps him escape with fewer pub thugs and more alchemy. When they get to the tower Eugene tells Varian to stay on the floor and climbs up to help Raps - Varian stays at the bottom of the tower for approx 10 minutes before finding the back entrance and climbing up. Figure he gets there just as Gothel deages, it’s suddenly and before anyone knows it Varian is the one pushing her out the window bc he saw a stabbed Eugene and put two and two together. Then! Cue New Dream scene, except Varian is sitting on the floor in shock a distance away... After New Dream hug Eugene looks at him and Varian admits that “Ok, magic isn’t that bad”
5) Oh god the series! First off — Raps is closer with Varian in this (that’s becoming a theme...) so doesn’t just throw him out into the blizzard when he comes asking for help. Instead he and Eugene go back to Old Corona together after the storm, Varian isolates himself from guilt + has a tough time dealing with what happened, but he lives in the castle as Eugene starts getting angrier with the king and wants answers for what happened. He’s the one that finds Dark Kingdom stuff and he and Varian work on it together... Eugene has a suspicion he came from the Dark Kingdom so when the rocks start pointing there he’s like dope!
No villain Varian joins them on the trek to the Dark Kingdom + it’s all fun and games, Eugene tries to get more answers from Adira as they travel but she says it’s not her place to say... All he needs to know is the kingdom fell, and everyone was evacuated... She’s almost annoyed as she explains it, then Hector is treble annoyed when he finds out Eugene was raised by QUIRIN since that went against the direct orders... Though Adira defends it and says he was doing his duty of keeping Eugene safe, it’s basically a rift between them that’s confusing until they get to the DK and the revelation happens.
I feel... Moongene could be a thing in this AU? but since I’m running out of points I’ll leave it with Cass taking her canon role! I will point out! when Quirin is freed initially only Varian runs into his arms... Eugene hadn’t really spoken to Quirin properly since their movie fallout & he’s not sure he belongs... Until Quirin holds and arm out to him and pulls him into the hug too (PARALLLELS) and we get a happy reunited family (tho with some issues to work out regarding somethings... they need to rebuild trust, but work on it slowly. Edmund stays ‘Edmund’ to Eugene. He sees Quirin as his father & doesn’t push as much to reconnect with Edmund... Though that makes it easier in a way. There’s less pressure once Edmund understands and they form a friendship, but Quirin is Dad 100% (Sometimes Edmund gets called Dad 2))

Majority of my followers know what Wakfu is, but not all know about the game: how many wounds it left in my heart, and everyone else’s. This post isn’t gonna be precisely explaining the wrongs that Wakfu did, I just wanted to mention that, in aftermath, it was a disaster of a game that left its most loyal players hurt, disappointed and immensely sad. I still keep meeting people who love this franchise, but can’t stand the game anymore since it’s.. Changed too much and didn’t stay enjoyable, to say mildly. I’m surrounded by, literally, traumatized veterans who look back at the good old days and shed tears. And I’ve been talking a lot about GW2 recently, not for no reason.
I want you to heal, just like I did. I mean.. I’m still hurt over Wakfu and I’ll stay this way forever, but I found a game where you can feel safe, loved, cared about. Devs in GW2 are humans who talk to us, who put smileys and memes in their posts, who hang out on reddit and ingame. This’s one of the major and striking differences between Wakfu and GW2. I’m still genuinely stunned by my own experience with customer support, I had a few troubles during my 1.5 years in GW2 and the response was not only fast and effective, it was HUMAN AND CUTE. I’m still not over it. Now that I’ve been invited to be a creative partner.. I’m still not over it too. They shower their regular players and content creators in gentle attention and kindness. I cry. During the 5+ years of being the most active and visible artist in Wakfu fandom, literally promoting it with thousands of drawings, I’ve never got a tiniest bit of official recognition. Not even a single placement on official media. When I took part in contests, I never won. Overall it’s been a one-way street. During my first 1.5 years in GW2, I’ve been noticed, picked up by the team, pampered and spoiled to the point of barely believing it’s true. That’s my personal experience, but it should indicate Anet’s general attitude towards the players. They. Do. Care.
I just wanna try and convince more ex-Wakfu players to give GW2 a shot. The two games are different in the visual and core gameplay aspects, yes, transitioning from an isometric 2D turn-based to a 3D, real-time game was somewhat harsh, but boy, how glad I am that I did it.
There’s EVEN MORE TEXT, brace yourselves. :D In GW2, I found everything that I wish was in Wakfu.
GW2 is a true sandbox. You log in, you do whatever the fuck you want. Level your first (second, 12th, 33rd, 68th) char? Grind mobs and dungeons? NO. Run around, look for events, explore, literally everything you do and everywhere you go, gives xp. You can level via crafting! Which, btw, is relevant throughout the entire game, unlike in Wakfu.
You do have dungeons of two kinds, and you CAN farm them if you want, but it’s your deliberate decision. There ARE farms in GW2, but they’re fun, if you’re not trying to get a legendary weapon in a month. I personally like running around with a bunch of random people who are there to FARM events in a specific map, but that happens once every two months.
Said legendary weapons ARE hard to get and yes, they can get you burnt out in no time if you don’t have a concept of a “long term goal”. Leggies are a prestige item, and, just like other prestige items (auras, specific minis, skins, etc), they’re meant to be your ultimate show-off item. People see you and know that you’ve been through.. A lot. BUT. Your hard-earned prestige item is to stay prestige. I assume you know relics in Wakfu? Then you must know what happened to them after a few years.
There’s no devaluing in GW2. Your trophies stay relevant and rare. Your prizes, your exclusive titles, skins, etc stay exclusive. You aren’t losing half of your wealth just because the devs decided to revamp ALL GEAR FOR THE THIRD TIME.
Speaking of the gear, the orange set you get at 80, is endgame gear. GW2 is 5 years old, so that orange gear is. People crafted it on the release and.. It stayed endgame. Yes, there’s also pink gear, which ~5% better than orange and is only needed if you do high lvl fractals or are min-maxing in raids. If you’re casual or just starting, you don’t even have to think about it. But once you craft your set, it stays relevant forever. People’s effort is never shoved up their asses.
There’s no constant carrot-on-a-stick gear upgrades. Level cap is 80 since release and will stay so. The game promotes safety and stability, that’s what attracted me. You take a 2 years break? No problem, you log in and go play. Nothing has lost its value, you don’t feel inferior, you don’t need to catch up to play with your friends.
Which reminded me: there’s a wonderfully done level downscale system. You’re a lvl 80 in a lvl 16 zone? Your stats are auto-adapted so the enemies you fought as a noob are still dangerous, and your reward (xp/gold/materials) is adapted to your true lvl. You go and play anywhere you want, and get fair rewards.
Crafting materials of all levels are also demanded and relevant. Oh yeah, you can run around for hours just gathering wood/ore, familiar to Wakfu players? It’s nice and relaxing until you meet another player. Well, in GW2 all gathering nodes are NOT shared. You see a tree? It’s your tree. That dude who runs up to it won’t steal it from you.
Oh also there’s no kill steal! Which is big, imo. You’re encouraged to play together, to help people kill stuff, to contribute to any event you see around, since everyone gets rewarded equally.
Legendary stability of GW2 servers. Lemme just say: there’s no weekly maintenance. There is. No. Downtime. Even on the big update days, you can download and play pretty safely. If there’s a hotfix, the game KINDLY WARNS YOU that you need to update and you have TWO FLIPPING HOURS to do so. Before you did that, you still can play, finish whatever you were up to.
Everything revolves around player’s happiness and convenience. There are constant quality-of-life updates. Your bags are full of crap? Here, salvage it into materials with two clicks, then deposit into your bank with two clicks (from anywhere in the world), then compact the rest of your shit. Yeah, with two clicks. x’D
There’s wonderful Fashion Wars. The game offers so much customization, and it’s taken so seriously, that it’s one of the endgame aspects. There’s 30000+ achievement points to earn, which are mostly fun and make you go out of your usual way. Dailies? You get 10 points and 2 gold for doing 3 easy tasks that take ~15 minutes.
There’s LORE. There’s fun little interactions all over the world. You just did an event? Stay here and listen, probably npcs will say/do something and start another event, logically following the previous one. The world lives and breathes. You can just walk around and observe. You’ll learn so much. And of course, there’s always a good cause to laugh. Dialogues/reactions are just hilarious sometimes.
Regarding the lore: there’s a so-called personal story which accompanies you up to lvl 80, then there’s “living world”, smaller events and single maps being rolled out every once in a while - so far there’s 2 seasons available, and 1 being “historical”, not playable anymore. In that season, they fucking crushed the main capital city. It changed forever. It was an epic event, which I missed, but watched people’s videos later. Then season 2, then HoT, then season 3, and now we’re waiting for PoF, second expansion. The updates have picked a nice pace and are frequent now.
There’s just so much to do. Just go, dive into the world and drown forever. :3c And meet me on the bottom. x’DD
GW2 feels different from Wakfu, but I found similarities for myself. It’s a sandbox after all, and later endgame has a lot of strategy. GW2 is never tank-and-spank. You just, literally, can’t facetank shit here. You gotta use your skills wisely, time your dodges, play with traits/passives until it all flows together. You’ve got a HUGE BUILD FREEDOM. There’s 9 classes, each having at least 3 defined roles, with more variations. You don’t just go ranger (oh archer it’s like a cra rite??) and do pew pew from max distance. Well, yes, you have a bow and can pew pew.. Or you can be a melee fighter, you can be a full blown healer/support.. As a ranger, yes.
I’ll be wrapping up now, I swear. GW2 is true f2p. Which of course does have a few restrictions (can’t trade or use map-chat), but you can get to 80, gear up and explore to your heart’s content before you decide to pay. I personally played for 5 months, every day, before I bought HoT.
Why’d you buy an expansion? More story, more maps, new class traits, gliding in HoT and mounts in PoF. The expansion and living world content has been constantly improving, visually, mechanically and lore/writing-wise.
Other than that, there’s a gemstore offering cosmetic and convenience items (gems can be bought for cash OR ingame gold). There are infamous rng boxes, but none of those are p2w. GW2 is oriented at the western consumer, which means, yeah, they know that we hate p2w and they’ll never do that to us.
*breathes out* I had to get that off my chest. I wanna talk about GW2 forever, but it’s exhausting to do one-on-one. :P Hopefully someone’s still reading this!
Now lemme remind you that now I have those partner links, if you use this to create a new account and play for free (for an hour or two months? w/e), or this to buy an expansion, I’ll get paid a bit. Not much, but it definitely helps!
And I was gonna write this wall of text regardlessly of the partnership one day, now I just have more incentive. x’DD Plus, we’re gonna have a beta weekend on 11-13 august, where you can preview the second expansion for free! It’s a perfect timing to write this post and try convincing you. You’ll just need a f2p account, and you’ll be given a lvl 80 boost and whatnot for that beta weekend. I’m not sure yet, but I assume you WILL. Just please register using my link above, so that I get paid for the two hours I spent on this post. :D

China’s Potential Doom; INO’s Biotech Boom
China’s Potential Doom; INO’s Biotech Boom:
Friday Four Play: The “Never Gonna Give You Up” Edition
Happy Valentine’s Day, dear readers!
I don’t have chocolates, roses or even dinner reservations (I know, I’m a horrible date today). But I do have market data and stock gains for Great Stuff readers.
Let’s start with the good news.
U.S. retail sales rose for the fourth consecutive month in January, according to the Department of Commerce. Lower prices at the pump helped drive (ha … drive) gasoline sales, and general merchandise receipts were their strongest in six months.
However, clothiers struggled — which was no surprise if you’ve paid attention to Kohl’s Corp.’s (NYSE: KSS) or J.C. Penney Co. Inc.’s (NYSE: JCP) stocks recently.
As for the bad news, U.S. factory output fell last month, according to data from the Federal Reserve. Manufacturing output dropped 0.1% from December — and December data were even revised lower.
Everyone blamed Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) for the shortfall, as the airplane-maker halted production of its 737 Max “bus with wings.”
Finally, if you haven’t had your fill of coronavirus news this week, we have recruitment site Zhaopin saying that 10% of firms surveyed are “on the verge of death.”
Another 30% plan to cut jobs, while yet another 30% said they couldn’t pay their workers.
So, we have that going for us in the second-largest economy in the world … which is nice.
Maybe I’ll get those dinner reservations after all. We could all use a pick-me-up right now.
But, whatever your Valentine’s Day plans may be, remember that Great Stuff is never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down … we’ll never run around or desert you!
And now for something completely different … here’s your Friday Four Play:
No. 1: Great Stuff’s Hat Trick
Can you say: “Three wins in a row?” Sure you can … especially if you’re a Great Stuff reader.
Roku Inc. (Nasdaq: ROKU) — a Great Stuff top pick for 2020 and beyond — is on fire today. Shares of the online streaming kingpin surged as much as 11% following the company’s fourth-quarter report.
The company reported a narrower-than-expected loss, Street-beating revenue that surged 49% and a 36% spike in active user accounts. Turns out the holiday shopping season was very good to Roku — just as I said it would be.
“We increased our active account base by almost 10 million over the year to end at 36.9 million,” said Chief Financial Officer Steve Louden.
Looking ahead, Roku sees 2020 revenue of $1.58 billion to $1.62 billion — ahead of the consensus estimate for $1.56 billion. However, the company also expects a net earnings loss of $180 million to $160 million — higher than Wall Street’s targeted loss of $53 million.
Don’t let those losses cloud your judgment here. Roku is spending on growth. It reinvests in the company and spends on things such as improving its TV operating system, international growth and its ad business. This is the good kind of spending that will lead to higher market share and stronger revenue growth.
Finally, if you’ve invested in Great Stuff picks before (and we know you winners are out there!) let us know how you did! Drop me a line at [email protected].
At this point, I know some of you possibly sit on gains of more than 60% on ROKU alone!
For the third time this week: Congratulations!
No. 2: Crypto Is Dead at Nvidia
Long live data centers!
That’s the new rallying cry at Nvidia Corp. (Nasdaq: NVDA). In an earnings report that saw gaming revenue skyrocket 56% (lots of PC-gaming enthusiasts doing holiday shopping), Nvidia shocked Wall Street with $968 million in data center sales.
CEO Jensen Huang said that artificial intelligence (AI) was the real driver behind data center sales. Nvidia has had several breakthroughs in AI that improve the performance of internet search and cloud-based computing, all of which boosted data center results on the quarter.
“All of these key areas were growing,” said CFO Colette Kress. “The industries are still in early stages.”
Nvidia didn’t provide full-year guidance, but with the semiconductor market in a cyclical upswing and 5G rollout pushing capital spending on data center servers, Nvidia is well-positioned to extend its winning streak.
No. 3: Canopy’s Sugar Daddy
Before we get started on Canopy Growth Corp. (NYSE: CGC), I want to draw your attention to today’s pot meme. That’s Banyan Hill expert Anthony Planas, and if you’d like to see his latest “POTcast” video, just click the meme (or click here for the article).
Now then … riding a $4 billion investment from Constellation Brands Inc. (NYSE: STZ), Canopy Growth crushed Wall Street’s third-quarter expectations. The pot purveyor lost C$0.35 per share as revenue rose 49% to C$123.76.
Canopy cited storefront growth and aggressive cost-cutting measures for the improved performance.
What’s more, the company knows that it’s dealing with a tough cannabis market right now. “Make no mistake, we have a lot of work to do,” said CEO David Klein. During the conference call, Klein said the company would take further steps to “rightsize” Canopy’s business during the next 90 days.
And that $4 billion from Constellation? Well … it’s whittled down to about $2.3 billion at this point. However, Canopy noted that this cash has been critical for the company, as financing continues to dry up in the cannabis market.
It turns out that having a sugar daddy in your back pocket really helps in the cannabis market.
No. 4: Just a Bit Outside
Some Great Stuff readers just might be sitting on four wins in a row today. Are you among the lucky few?
In our January 31 issue — “Friday Four Play: The ‘Fear Inoculum’ Edition” — we recommended Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: INO). The company had just received a $9 million grant to develop a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus — aka, the Wuhan coronavirus.
INO shares have been volatile ever since that bit of news, as fears surrounding the virus ebbed and flowed. Following this week’s surge in infections, Inovio is back in the limelight — thanks in part to its revolutionary system for developing vaccines.
According to a report yesterday, Inovio has a COVID-19 vaccine. In fact, it had one just three hours after the Chinese government released the virus’s DNA sequence!
“We have an algorithm which we designed, and we put the DNA sequence into our algorithm and came up with the vaccine in that short amount of time,” said Dr. Trevor Smith, Inovio’s director of research and development.
The company has already tested the vaccine on rats and plans to start “phase 1” clinical testing in humans this summer. That means a vaccine could be ready to go later this year.
Inovio shares surged over 10% today on the news. Given how volatile this biotech stock has been lately, Great Stuff readers are either back at breakeven or possibly up about 8%.
Once again, let us know how you’re doing with Great Stuff picks. Email us at [email protected]!
Great Stuff: Don’t Know Much Biology
Don’t know much about a science book. Don’t know much about the French I took.
But I do know that I love you, dear readers. (Awwww…)
And I know that this quick rally is welcome news to INO shareholders (and to Great Stuff readers! Woot woot!), but for the rip-roaring biotech sector, it’s all in a day’s work.
Biotech isn’t just known for its life-saving treatments and medicines — it’s also one of the most lucrative sectors to invest in.
But how can I tell an overnight success from an overnight bust?
As you’ve probably seen with Inovio, spotting the best biotech investments isn’t for the faint of heart … and that’s what makes your biotech guide even more important.
For Banyan Hill expert Jeff Yastine, biotech is another gold mine in the making. And today, he has his eye on one company that’s set to revolutionize health care. Even with its life-saving innovation, there’s little hype surrounding this stock today…
And yet, Jeff predicts this stock’s value could triple in the next few years!
Click here to see why Jeff believes this pioneer will soar.
That’s all for this week. But don’t fret, you can get more meme-y market goodness by following us on Facebook and Twitter!
Until next time, good trading!
Regards,
Joseph Hargett

7 Things to Look Forward To in January 2019
Is there a drearier month in the year than January? After the excessive eating, drinking and merry-making of December, the following month seems particularly dull. Weeks of festivities suddenly give way to virtuous New Year’s resolutions, intentions to work out and eat healthy, and of course, all sorts of proclamations about Dry January. In short, although it’s the start of a new year, it doesn’t always feel like there’s a lot to look forward to. Except there is. Read on for several things to get excited about this month.
1. Awards shows One good thing about January is that it’s the official start of awards season, meaning we’ve got The Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards in quick succession. Red carpet dresses! Funny speeches! On-stage flubs and faux pas! Basically, there’s plenty of fun to be had. We’re particularly excited about the Globes, because they scored the hilariously charming Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh as hosts, as well as the SAGs, with sure-to-be-scathing host Megan Mullally.

2. The return of Brooklyn 99 Speaking of Andy Samberg, January is also the month that his feel-good cop comedy returns to our screens. This is a big deal because it almost didn’t happen. ICYMI, Fox News decided to cancel the show after five beloved seasons, and then—after a social media furor—NBC picked it up the very next day. Did Gina Linetti, human embodiment of the 100 emoji, have something to do with it? Either way, the show’s back on January 10 and we just know it’s going to be toit.

3. Trevor Noah in Toronto Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show, is touring! The South African comedian will be in Toronto for four shows on January 11 and 12 as part of his ‘Loud and Clear’ tour. After sold out shows in Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal, the Just For Laughs comedy festival brings the acclaimed author and comedian to The 6ix. Starting the year with some laughs might be just what we all need.

4. Season 3 of True Detective The first season of this HBO crime drama, back in 2014, was a television revelation, hooking what seemed like the entire world. Starring Matthew McConnaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan, it was a critical and commercial success, garnering several Emmy nods. Season two, starring Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, not so much. HBO green-lit season three in 2017, and now here we are, just days away from its premiere. Starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, the show is set in the Ozarks, over three different time periods. The first episode airs on HBO on January 13.

6. Carmen Sandiego The noble criminal mastermind reappears January 18 on Netflix. In this reboot of the animated educational series, the elusive lady in red is voiced by Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez, while her chief accomplice Player is voiced by Stranger Things’s Finn Wolfhard. Described by Netflix as “a modern-day Robin Hood,” Sandiego’s story arc in this reboot will involve a look back at her past and how she became a globe-trotting super thief. (If animation’s not really your thing, keep an eye out for the live-action film about Sandiego, also starring Rodriguez, that is in the works.)

7. Comedians of the World Netflix’s Comedians of the World brings together stand-up comics from over a dozen regions—including India, Australia, the UK and the Middle East—for several hours worth of laughs. The Canadian lineup seems nearly double compared to that of other countries, and features Adib Alkhalidey, François Bellefeuille, Ivan Decker, Louis-José Houde, Katherine Levac, Dave Merheje, Deanne Smith and K. Trevor Wilson. The comedy special drops on Netflix on January 1.

Log 1
4/13/18 1:43PM
Alright. So. I probably should have started some sort of journal for logging what I’m doing a lot earlier, like five days earlier, but now I’m here. Getting it done. This will be more of an informal<very very informal> way to track my progress on a class project where I have to create a game level as the final project for this class. What I have chosen to do is create a game called The Library <very original, I know> where the main character has fallen through a hole in the ground while hiking. The character wakes up in a dark cave-like area. As the character goes deeper into this cave they realize that it is a library full of enemies wanting to kill them. The player progresses through the level where they can choose to take a path with minimal enemies, or with more enemies. The trade off is, that the less enemies the player encounters, the less background information the player gains as to what this “library” place is, and the less they get to explore this area. I will be working on this through Unreal Engine, because I decided I wanted a challenge. Also because out of the three engines I am familiar with <Unreal Engine, Unreal Tournament Editor, GameMaker> Unreal Engine is the one I have the most experience with, although that is not saying much. I have only worked with UE4 for about…two months max? In short: I have a long ways to go before I am confident in using it.
Inspiration for this came from my workplace. I am a librarian and I know libraries. At least I know small town libraries. The podcast Welcome To Night Vale also gave me inspiration, as the librarians in the podcast are dangerous creatures not to be messed with. Another source of inspiration was Undertale as I really liked the idea of a character innocently stumbling into an area that they clearly were not meant to see/find.
Now this is a big project that I hope to see through to the finish, although it may not be as polished as I hope it comes out. All I am really hoping for from this project is to gain a better understanding of the game development process and better understand how to use Unreal…and of course to have a semi functional game. My major worries right now are finding the time to work on this project. I still am working from my sisters house <I have ben fighting with the sole internet provider in my town for over a year and a half to get them to install internet at my house>, but commuting to and from her house takes time that I really do not have to spare. My work time may also be bumped up since a coworker has resigned and we will be short staffed, which ultimately means working more hours there and less hours on this project. Its gonna be a pain, but I think I’ll be able to manage. Somewhat at least.
As for a recap of what I have done this past week:
·         Created assets list of what I need <might add in, take out stuff depending on how long it will take to make, my skill level in it, etc…>
·         Started a project and found a tutorial series on setting it up for a basic FPS game <I need help with coding as I am definitely not the brightest crayon in the box. I’m more like a medium gray>
·         Gotten a semi idea of what the level will look like <paper mapped, but still needs work as to where enemies, trigger boxes, pickups, cutscenes, etc. will be.>
·         Created a storyboard of how the game should play out
·         Created two 3D assets using Blender <ugly assets might I add since I basically taught myself how to use blender about two days ago in three hours using a tutorial series from youtube set to 2X the speed>
·         Written up an outline for the story
·         Sketched the cutscenes
Today I plan on finishing up the rest of the tutorial series I started last night <I quit working on it at about 11:30 PM because I got stuck in an area of code where that particular piece of Blueprint is no longer available, and the tutorials I am working off of are a few years old, so I need to find a work around on that>, sketch out the paper map level on Clip Studio Paint for a cleaner view, and clean up the paper sketches of the cutscenes.
How much of this I will actually accomplish still remains to be seen.
