indie horror tier list but i designed it specifically to reflect my actual opinions piss off everyone
#i mean everything below c-tier has a shit starting idea for starters#by the 'never played' thumbnail though i can tell that 90% of them are the same#the 'corruption of your childhood/an established property' thing#which has gotten so fucking old im hunting through its attic stash for dress patterns#are my standards too high for horror? or are horror standards too low#because it feels like AAA horror is the one AAA industry actually doing somewhat unique ideas with its genre#and it's indie horror that's inbred as fuck#we have mascot horrors and nostalgiabait horrors up the arse.#and the only good one is still godzilla nes because that one also gets pretty fucking surreal and original with its imagery#amanda might get points for not being a soulless cashgrab but it's still an unoriginal idea.#isn't indie horror supposed to be where your ideas aren't hampered by studio interference?#why are all the fucking games the exact same as each other#and it's just whether Michael Rat or Your Dad or The ScreenChubs or Thomas The Tankin Dankin or Blinky Fucking Bill#chasing you through the childrens playground/theme park/house/secret hell#yes i get it woooo it's that thing from my childhood i liked but it's DARK and EVIL and SCARY#and it wants me DEAD#i want me dead too bitch!#come up with another reason for me to be scared!

“His Hands are in my Hair, His Clothes are in my Room ♡˖” BSD x GN!Reader ੈ✩‧₊˚
╰┈➤ Osamu Dazai, Chuuya Nakahara, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nikolai Gogol
Warnings; Nikolais and Chuuyas are hardly proofread, Nikolais was rushed, Nikolais nearly got scrapped, I don't like Nikolais, maybe a little ooc
Description; sharing clothing w the BSD boys
A/n; GUYS OH MY GOD I GOT A 5 ON MY FIRST AP EXAM IM SO PROUD OF MYSELF AHHHHHH IM GONNA CRY also I'm sorry posts are so few and far between. It's so hot and hard to function. I know I said the exact same thing to excuse minimal posts in winter but like. its literally hot as balls and all I got is a puny ass 8yro fan and the occasional sip of iced water.
Osamu Dazai ★
• Dazai likes to take your old T-shirts to sleep in when you lend them to him for the night. After a few nights of having Dazai at your house, you wonder why your sleep-shirt collection has nearly cut in half.
ೃ⁀➷
You unlocked the door of your apartment and pushed it open with your unoccupied hand. The other arm held a large brown paper bag filled with gas station food and snacks for you and your boyfriend, who followed you inside. Once you set the bag down on the coffee table, you retrieved your keys from the door and closed it. When you came back to the kitchen, Dazai had already dumped everything out and was sifting through all the options. "The walk back from the gas station was hardly five minutes and I've already forgotten everything we got." He says with a grin, opening a bag of chips and eating a couple. He offered you some, holding the bag out to you. "Want some?' He mumbled.
"Yeah, let me just change into pajamas first, I don't wanna do anything until I'm comfortable." You said, shrugging off your jacket and starting to undo your belt before you even make it back to your room. Dazai followed suit, bag of chips still in hand. "Can I borrow some?" You nodded before taking off your shirt and tossing it in the laundry hamper, going through your closet to find a shirt for your boyfriend and yourself. "Thank youuu~" He plops down onto your bed, keeping the chip bag upwards so he doesn't get any crumbs or dust on your nice blankets. He watches you pull one of your band shirts over your head, admiring your body from his position on your mattress. He's snapped out of his daze when black fabric comes flying at him, but he catches it before it can smack him in the face. "Thanks, babe, you're so kind."
He switches his work clothes for your old ones, the big shirt nearly swallowing his scrawny torso comfortably. "Alright, I want snacks, come on." You gesture for him to follow you back out to the kitchen where the array of snacks was waiting for the two of you on the counter. There were numerous kinds of chocolate, and Dazai had grabbed a couple bags of gummies for himself. There were a few more bags of chips for variety, and you scooped everything up in your arms to bring to the living room. You dropped them all on the coffee table and grabbed the remote. "Alright, what movie are we feeling?" You ask, turning to the brunette man. "Uhhhhh, how about an action movie. Somethin' that looks exciting." He says, slinging his arm over your shoulder while he munches on sour gummy worms. Eventually, the two of you decide on a Godzilla movie, slumped against the couch with chocolate residue on the tips of your fingers from your candies. Dazai let out a long sigh as the movie came to a close, leaning into you and resting his head on your shoulder.
You ran your fingers through Dazais messy and slightly greasy hair, scratching his scalp and listening to his pleased, quiet hum. "Are you falling asleep or are you up for another movie?" You ask him, watching the credits roll on the TV. "I'm up for another movie, I just think I might be having a sugar crash." He says, groaning as he sits back up. You nod and grab the remote again, browsing through all the film options. Every now and again, your eyes involuntarily flickered over to your boyfriend, and you couldnt help but smile. He looked really cute in your shirt, and it almost made you wanna treat the movie like chopped liver and cuddle up to him.
"You look really cute." You say, playing whatever movie you absent-mindedly started in your daze. "Oh, I know, right?" He grins running his hand over his body. "As a matter of fact, I've never felt sexier." He teases, moving his eyebrows up and down with a smirk. You can't help but laugh at him. "Let's get you on a playboy cover." Before you know it, he's standing up in front of the TV. "Scrap the movie, you have me for entertainment instead." He puts his hands on his hips and strikes a pose, making you laugh some more. "You want some attention? I mean, I guess since you asked so politely." You stand up with an eye roll and pull him in, kissing him and running a hand down his side. He keeps one hand on your chin, tilting your head to meet his lips, sighing quietly each time your lips part for a quick moment. Soon, you both need more air then small gasps and have to pull away. He smiles and messes with the fabric of your own shirt. "How about we ditch this mess for now and go to bed, yeah? We can continue comfortably there?" He offers, You glance back over at the piles of snacks, opened or not, scattered acrossed the floor. Normally you'd make him help you clean up before doing anything else, but tonight you really couldn't be bothered and just wanted to follow Dazai wherever he'd take you. "Alright, let's go."
Chuuya Nakahara ★
• Everyone knows that Chuuya adores his hat, but not everyone knows he's got a decently sized collection of fancy hats on top of his closet. One day while rummaging around and trying to find one of Chuuyas button downs for him, you notice them all on the top rack.
ೃ⁀➷
"Chuuya, you didn't tell me you had so many hats!" You called out to him, standing back and staring at them all. Chuuya was currently in the bathroom, shaving his peach fuzz to keep his smooth face. "Huh? Oh, yeah, I've got a ton." He calls back, washing the shaving cream off of his skin. "They're pretty..can I try some of 'em on?" You ask, reaching to grab the one on the top of the stack. "Go ahead." He walks out of the bathroom with his towel around his waist, leaning against the doorframe to watch the little fashion show you were about to put on. The first one you grabbed was adorned with flowers of various colors. You placed it on your head and turned around, posing with your hands on your hips.
"What do you think? Vogue worthy?" You ask him. He smiles at you and nods, his arms crossed over his chest. "One hundred percent, that's peak fashion." He says genuinely, standing up straight and walking over to the closet. He reaches up and grabs another hat for you to try, switching it out for the flowers one. This one is a dark, reddish brown color. "This one's cute too." You giggle and head over to the bathroom to see for yourself. "Ooo, I'm not sure this kinda hat is necessarily for me." You giggle. "What do you mean? It looks great on you!" He says, following you in and hugging you from behind. "You only say that because they're your hats." You say, grinning.
"I mean, I guess not everyone is destined to look good in them like me." He says, squeezing your hip. "I gotta actually get ready for work now, I'm probably runnin' late." He says, turning around and dropping his towel. He tossed it into the hamper before getting dressed in his usual attire, spotting the button down that you had forgotten about in favor of his hat collection. "Okayyyy." You yawn, stretching your arms over your head and treading through the bedroom to start your own morning routine. You didn't have to leave for another hour, but Chuuya had to get to work within the next 30 minutes. After brushing your teeth, you notice Chuuya searching the bedroom for his usual hat.
"The nightstand." You point out to him. He sees it and lets out a sigh of relief, grabbing it and plopping it on his head. "Thanks, doll. I gotta get going' now, but I'll see ya tonight, okay?" He says, pulling you in by your waist for his daily goodbye kiss. "Yeah, got it." You smile before kissing him sweetly for a quick moment before he backs away. "Alright, I love you, see ya later." He playfully smacks your ass before letting go of you and heading out to the door. "Bye Chuuya, I love you, I'll see you later!" Once you heard him leave, you smiled to yourself and headed right back to the closet. You didn't necessarily have to get dressed just yet, so that gave you some time to try on a couple more hats on your own.
Fyodor Dostoevsky ★
• Fyodor doesn't mind letting you borrow his cape if you seem cold, or he'll simply wrap it around you and pull you into his side. He prefers the latter, considering it doesn't take much for him to get chilly.
ೃ⁀➷
Fyodor held your gloved hand in his as you both walked down the snowy streets of Yokohama. It was the winter solstice and you both decided to take a walk down one of the most popular roads and do some window shopping. By the end of the evening, the hand that wasn't occupied with holding Fyodors held a warm cup of hot chocolate that you sipped on periodically. "Have you enjoyed yourself tonight, Myshka?" He asks you, adjusting his ushanka and gazing up at the sky, noticing some snow start to fall. "I did. Thanks for coming with me, I know you have a lot of stuff to do." You respond, bringing the cup to your lips for another sip. He waves his hand dismissively. "That doesn't mean I can't accompany you." His thumb rubs over your knuckles as snow starts landing on his hat and your head, the street lamps illuminating the darkness with a tangerine-colored glow. You nod at his words, leaning into his shoulder and shivering.
"It's so cold, Fedya." You say, your head on his shoulder and your hand squeezing his tightly. He lets go in order to put his arm around your waist, pulling his long cape over your shoulder. "I know, the walk home isn't much further, don't worry." You smile and hold onto the old, worn material to keep it in place. "You're right, thanks." You say, feeling butterflies in your stomach. It never mattered how long you and Fyodor had been together, every affectionate action made you feel like you had just got together. He held you close with his cape still shielding you from the cold and adding a layer of warmth to your jacket. He would peer over at you every now and again, laughing under his breath at all the snow that was getting into your hair. "What's so funny?" You ask him, a smile spread acrossed your face. "You've got a whole bunch of snow on your head." He tells you. "It looks like dandruff."
You roll your eyes and yank the ushanka off of his head, placing it on yours instead. "There, now you won't have to look at it." You hold the fluffy hat on top of your head and try to prevent him from taking it back when he tugs on it. "No, you can get your own, my ears are cold." He says with a smile, eventually pulling it back into his own possession and patting it off. "I will say though, you look better in my hat than Dazai did." You give a proud smirk and rest your head on his shoulder. "I'd hope you'd think so." Your street comes into view and you pull him along as you speed up, wanting to get into the warm, cozy house as soon as possible. "I know running isn't exactly your thing but pick up the pace a little, I wanna get under the covers and cuddle." You tell him, getting closer to home with each passing second.
He picks up speed for you and listens to the sound of your feet hitting the pavement. It's not long before you've pulled him all the way home and you're unlocking the door, nearly spilling inside to get into the warm living room. Fyodor follows suit, unlacing his shoes and hanging up his cape and ushanka. You wait for him in the open doorway that connects the living room and the hallway, ready to curl up in bed away from the harsh cold. "Alright, I'm coming." He says, treading through the hall with you and opening the bedroom door. His hand rested on your lower back as you both walked to the comfortable mattress, crawling under the covers and pulling each other close. "Your cape is really warm and comfortable. You should wrap me in it more often." You say, scooching closer to him and letting his arm drape over your waist.
"Hmm, I guess that wouldn't hurt. You really like it?" He peers down at you, his head propped up on his fist. "Yeah, I might have to steal it, actually." You say seriously, making him click his tongue. "You're welcome to steal it if I'm not wearing it." He says, chewing on the inside of his cheek habitually. "Then expect it to be off the hanger more often then not." He smiles and presses a kiss to your forehead, laying his head down on the pillow. "Okay, that's fine, but right now you have me and the blanket to keep you warm." He murmurs, closing his eyes. "Well you're not contributing to that as much as the blanket, but whatever you say." You kiss his cheek and brush his bangs out of his face. "G'night Fedya, I love you." You say, resting your head on his chest, ready for sleep. "I love you too, y/n, sleep well."
Nikolai Gogol ★
• You always loved Nikolais outfit and couldn't help but wanna put it in one day. You were sure he wouldn't mind, after all, sharing attire was nothing foreign to your relationship.
ೃ⁀➷
It started with you trying on his blouse for fun, but then you decided the blouse wasn't complete without the vest, pants, gloves, collar, shoes, or hat. Everything fit you a little differently than it fit Nikolai, but it didn't matter, because when you walked over to the nearest reflective surface, you found yourself cute, and you almost couldn't wait for Nikolai to get out of the shower to show him. You just needed one more thing, his cape. You ran out to the coat rack by the door and swung it behind you and then over your shoulders excitedly, grabbing it by the edges and moving it around. You felt really fancy with his cape, swaying your body just to feel the fabric move with you. As a matter of fact, you were so caught up in how good the cape made you feel that you didn't even realize the bathroom door open.
"Oh, wow, dove! My outfit looks so good on you! I've never noticed how much the red gloves pop until now." You turned around so fast, as if you were sitting in silence and all of a sudden a full file cabinet tipped over and crashed onto a linoleum floor. "Wah-! When'd you get out? I mean, thank you, but you scared me!" You say with a nervous laugh. "I thought it looked cute." You murmur, starting to pull off the gloves, but he stops you. "Hey, wait, you should stay in it for a moment, I'm not done admiring you yet!" He tells you, walking over and grabbing your hands gently. He leans in to kiss you, his smile palpable on his lips. You hand falls on his shoulder, rubbing it up and down affectionately before pulling away. "You really like it that much, huh?"
He nods. "Ofcourse! Oh, I'd love to show everyone how wonderful you look. Would you let me?" He asks, squeezing your hands tightly. "Sure, Kolya, go ahead." He quickly skitters off to fetch his cellphone, returning with the camera app already open. "Pose." He says, watching you place your hands on your waist and cock your hip a little bit. "Ah, gorgeous." He says, spamming the capture button. "Okay, I think that's enough." He says, his cheeks a bit pinker than before. He tossed his phone onto one of the side tables and embraced you once again, resting his head on top of yours. "Come on, y/n, I'd like to see you in my whole wardrobe now!" He says excitedly, pulling you along back to the bedroom. You don't necessarily know what you ignited in him, but it was certainly something, and now you were preparing yourself for a god-knows-how-long fashion show for your boyfriend. Not that you really minded, ofcourse.
A/n; another post that was supposed to have sigma and then didn't have sigma because I wanted to watch Jersey shore instead of write. ALSO I WENT TO THE DENTIST YESTERDAY terrible experience I cried but don't tell anyone I said that

Sorrow / All Titans x reader / (Headcanons)
────────────────────────────
Your sad mood greatly affects the Titans. Let's see what they will do in such situations
Sorry for the English
────────────────────────────
Godzilla
* I think he will cheer you up in every way. Starting from a gentle poke of the muzzle in the back and ending with swimming on the ocean in order to somehow develop your head, clouded from despondency.
* If you do ask to be alone while he is trying to calm you down, he will do it. Of course, the Titan will not take its eyes off you.
* In another situation, when you
want to share your problem, then Godzilla will listen to you carefully.
Although he doesn't really understand human problems and how big they are for you, he will still try to give you the best advice.
* Or you can make it simpler. Take a nap with him in the colosseum. In the event that helicopters infiltrate the lair, its tail will push them out of the way if a warning growl does not help.
Mothra/Mosura
* With this Moth, we can already consider that all problems are solved. It understands the magnitude of your burden, soothing you with a soft chirp that caresses your mind.
* Go to her for advice, as if to a psychologist. But you don't need any money or anything else for this.
Just give her a happy smile.
* Mothra, the whole personification of her own Mother. Do you want a hug? A kiss on the back of the head? Anything, sunshine.
The main thing is your joy at the moment.
Because it hurts her to watch your sad face, from which bitter tears are almost dripping.
* But if you need solitude and just to reflect on yourself, she will give it. Just don't draw harsh conclusions.
In any case, stay with her and share everything that disturbs your soul.
Rodan
* I don't think that you can somehow come to despondency with him. Joke after joke and all despairs are forgotten in an instant.
* You automatically develop laughter at the sight of him. Even if he does something normal for both of you, you still giggle quietly.
Rodan is too charismatic, that's all.
* But if you're really desperate, which even Rodan can't remove. There is already an emergency here. Titan panics and just doesn't know where to go. Since he is not too good at advice and in the end you have to calm him down, not you.
Which makes you really laugh.
* This Kaiju is not stupid enough to raise his problems above yours. He will remember the moments and words you said during his bad mood. How they supported and praised.
But there are great difficulties with the council.
* Rodan still wants to help you, despite his flaws, which he hides behind a wall of humor.
King Ghidorah
* First of all, who? And secondly, who to destroy? Such questions haunt you when these Three notice your depressed mood.
Ni intends to kill those offenders in the same way as Ichi, who can't see your sad face. These two do not seem to understand at all what to do, except for bloody murders.
If only Kevin purrs your side in his own way, trying to cheer you up.
* When they find out your reason for being sad, they are a little confused. Especially because there is no such person who has morally ruined you. It's just your problem that ruined your mood.
* But. These three are ready to listen to you at any time. And it doesn't matter if it's a big problem or a stupid one. Just cheer up with the cold breeze around Ichi's neck and fly to create storms over cities, spilling out emotions.
The rest will pass.
* Although they are cruel, they have interesting ways to send joy.
King Kong
* He knows how to support. Of course, he also does not understand half of it, but he gets away with saying something nice about you.
If it weren't for Jia...
Which also once, no, still supports him in certain situations.
* Kong can also pat you on the head, although it is more like ruffling your hair in different directions, from which you have to spit out.
But this is not bad, it lifts the mood.
* If you need to be alone, then good. He understands this and knows what it is like to want to be alone for a while. Just be careful.
* Kong is also good at advice to some extent. The main thing here is for you to understand what this Titan is trying to convey to you.
Shimo
* This girl already understands everything and accepts all your heavy burden. Your sad mood greatly disturbs this Titan, she just can't help but turn
* But sometimes you are ashamed to talk about your problems, given the situation in which your companion found herself. Moreover, she was able to survive it and walks around with a fresh memory about it.
* Her eyes are too charming... Especially the muzzle, which leans to the side in an interesting way. You just can't keep sharing your problems when you have such a miracle in front of you. All thoughts just float behind your back.
* Shimo gently nudges you to the side as a sign of support. Convincing that all problems will pass over time, the main thing is not to go down and not to lose self-control.
* If everything is really bad for you, then she will allocate a whole day and night for you. Share, complain. Whatever you want.
She will listen to you attentively, purring.

Godzilla x reader
I’m making this because I don’t see enough of it.
Godzilla, despite everything written and documented about him at Monarch, was gentle. It had all started when another pair of Mutos had attacked Manhattan. Godzilla, now much more knowledgeable in dealing with mutos, had taken them down much quicker than before. However, he had gotten distracted by you. His heart beating faster and not just from the current battle. You had been limping aimlessly through the city, holding your arm in pain. You had fallen from almost getting squished by the male muto landing barely 10 feet away from you. You had fallen and landed wrong and we’re currently paying the price for it. Godzilla could hear your heartbeat. Could smell the scent of your body. Hell he could feel you in distress and suddenly his priorities shifted. He didn’t know how or why he was doing it but his body moved on its own. The mutos were knocked down, weak, but not for long. He thought he’d have enough time to find you and get you somewhere safe. He was wrong.
In your distress, you hadn’t realized you were heading towards the fights instead of away from it. You scream in terror when a sudden figure falls to the ground maybe thirty feet in front of you. The ground shook and you fell to your knees, looking up at the godlike creature.
You were suddenly being stared at by his eyes. HIS eyes. The king of the Kaiju was looking at YOU. Yet you didn’t feel the slightest intimidated. His golden eyes stared into yours as if he was stuck. The moment lasted maybe seconds before he got up to finish his fight but for the both of you, it felt like forever. Even after he left, you remained on the ground, tired and confused and so so curious about this connection you’d just discovered. You slowly pass out unconscious on the ground from just the absurdity of it all.
Little did you know a certain lizard would scoop you up and take you to his island…
First post! Lemme know if you want a part 2 cause I got ideas

flashback
part 1 || part 2
summary: you were drowning but were saved.
a/n: this is actually really bad. but i wanted to show ya’ll how godzilla and reader met frfr.
You couldn’t breathe.
How long was it, since you took your last, deep breath?- Please let me breathe- Only the salty cold water entered your lungs, you were drowning. They filled up with water so fast yet so painfully slow- you could feel it. You were about to die, you knew it. There was no point in fighting it anymore. You were weak- someone help me.
The ocean currents were unforgiving, harsh. They didn’t care that you had a whole life ahead of you. You were at its mercy. You moved and moved like a ragdoll, you were not in control. You never were. And you could barely hear the screams of the others who are in the same position as you, or you may be hallucinating their screams, they could be dead! Or maybe you are dead, and your death is just replaying and replaying and replaying-
A big wave had hit your boat - where is that damn boat- a wave of bad luck but your birthday did always bring that type of thing, didn’t it? You had a feeling that this would happen. Nevertheless, you’d been on this big boat, a party! And it was sunny! Fuck, fuck, fuck- There were a lot of people, people who you didn’t know about, strangers. I hope they survive- Your family hadn’t come either, since you lived pretty far away from them. You were supposed to go meet them next week to celebrate your special day.
Seems like they were coming to meet you instead, huh? They’ll never find your body though.
And now, here you were— falling deep into the depths of the ocean, time passed in a blur. You could feel yourself slipping, your lungs heavy, and the pain was beginning to blur out. Maybe the pain was too great to even feel at this point. Who knows, you’ve probably gone numb. You couldn’t even register what was happening anymore.
What was it? Oh yes, death! You were dying. Slowly.
Oh and your pet? What will they do? Will they miss you? It was home, all alone it pained you to think that it would think you left them. I love you, I love you, I-
Dying wasn’t for the faint of heart. But, you never really cared for death. I don’t want to die- You never really cared if you died and you were never scared of it. I don’t want to die- Why- no, how could you be? It was inevitable, and you’ve been around it millions of times. You’ve witnessed it. I don’t want to die- You’ve witnessed wild animals getting killed, plants get killed, humans getting killed.
Everything eventually dies, so instead of finding death scary, you find comfort in it. I’m dying- Somehow though, you wish things had played differently. But…Knowing you were not alone, that you weren’t the only one dying is…nice. I’m sorry-
Dying…is….
You finally feel the darkness set in.
Everyone knew of the monster that swam in the waters and rose to the land when there was a disturbance or simply to rest up there- how could they not? It never went unnoticed.
His body was strong, that the strong deadly waves did not have an effect on him. He illuminated the darkness, and displayed a clear view of the dead bodies. He had heard the disaster and decided to take a look, although it was unnecessary because there was no one alive at the scene- until he heard it, a beat.
A human heart, although faint and weak, he could still hear it.
And then- he spots them, the body diving deeper into the depths of the ocean. Unmoving.
Strangely, you’d been woken up by a severe coughing fit. Water poured out of you, and it was uncontrollable. You moved to your side instinctively, grasping at your heart. You really couldn’t stop until you did- which is when you fell back onto the…sand?
Something prickly was sticking itself to you, you think.
…
It hurts to think.
It hurt to feel.
And it really hurts to breathe.
And your eyes hurt to even open. You still opened them because despite everything, you were still a human and were caught off guard. Not that you knew that.
And you begin to regret opening your eyes, because the blinding light of the sun hurts, even if you saw everything through a blurred lens. And your eyes wandered lazily as you still coughed.
And your eyes landed on a specifically odd structure, maybe a rock? It was close to you, loomed over you. But you couldn’t really tell what it was, and you certainly couldn’t keep your mind focused on it because—
— Everything ached.
What had happened, you did not know.
You couldn’t muster up the strength to move, nor the strength to even- soon, the world around you faded into darkness as you slipped into unconsciousness once again.

can I just talk about Godzilla Minus One and how it was absolutely fucking brilliant for a minute?
It centered around a disgraced kamikaze pilot who hesitated, who was scared to die, so sabotaged his own plane before he could fly out. and because he sabotaged his plane, a crew of engineers had to hang back at the base, to try and fix it.
and then of course, this being a Godzilla movie, Godzilla attacks. kills most of them, excluding him and an engineer, who immediately blames him. says that if he had just died, then the rest of them would still be alive too.
his "cowardice" saved his life, and he was haunted by it, ashamed of "betraying" his country simply by wanting to live.
he spent the whole movie struggling with survivors guilt and feeling like he let his country down just by continuing to breathe.
and he couldn't forget the men he saw die, and he can't escape memories of the war, because he's living in the shattered remains of Tokyo after it was bombed, the place he used to call home, where his community is gone and his family is dead, and there is no escaping the death and devastation.
and the people who are still living? they hate him. they blame him for the loss of the war. they blame him for not dying for them.
and because he's haunted by his past, he cannot live in the present.
the guilt of being alive is too tightly wound around his heart. it can't beat even once without him being reminded of all the people whose hearts were nothing but dust now, and the outcome of the war feels like it's solely laid upon his chest.
and that's all very heavy. and I cried.
but that wasn't what I cried at. Because it wasn't the hopelessness that had the most impact on me. it was the end of the movie, where he was given the choice to redeem himself. to die for his country this time, and save them from Godzilla.
and he said he was ready, he can do it this time, he will be the hero. he will lay down his life this time.
only...
...this time, the engineer, who called him a coward... designed his new plane for this mission. and he gave him an ejector seat.
and the movie says this:
"This country has treated life far too cheaply. Poorly armored tanks. Poor supply chains resulting in half of all deaths from starvation and disease. Fighter planes built without ejection seats and finally, kamikaze and suicide attacks. That's why this time I'd take pride in a citizen led effort that sacrifices no lives at all! This next battle is not one waged to the death, but a battle to live for the future."
And it's like...
Oh it's so corny, it's always corny, when the message of a story is simply, life is precious.
But I don't fucking care.
It was still brilliant. It still hits every time. That's what made me cry. Not the hopelessness or the sad things, but the way the movie could be so heavy... while also being hopeful. optimistic.
Everything about that movie was just so perfect. A Godzilla movie actually set immediately after WW2 is a genius idea. The post war devastation. The criticism of Japanese imperialism, the war, and the way it treated its own people, both at home and abroad. The condemnation of kamikaze attacks and the callous disregard for human life.
And the deeply human story, of a man who was afraid to live, after seeing so much death.
Choosing to die wasn't easy. But choosing to live was even harder.

Hello can you do Yandere Funtime Freddy x Male hand puppet child reader like Funtime Freddy ends up losing bon bon and Freddy turns male child reader into bon bon plz. If you can’t do it then can you do Yandere Jurassic park x raptor reader or Yandere Godzilla x kaiju reader
Yandere Godzilla x reader
Reader is gn, and using they/them pronouns so all readers can enjoy. This will be platonic due to the fact that Godzilla is an animal as I do not support zoophilia. This is write as if Godzilla and y/n already are friends
Type: headcanons
Warnings ⚠️: possessive nature, slight jealousy
- 🌊 goji never cared for humans, and never did. They are pests, annoying and violent. Humans have always been a pain to him for as long as they had walked the earth, claiming they were superior. What foolish creatures. To think as if they were the Center of the earths core, like they were the supply of life to each and everyone of the living and non living. They destroyed themselfs, and dragged everything else with them because of their own selfishness and greed for power they will never hold.
- 🌊 it disgusts him, the burning hatred never ceased. only growing with each and every new day waking up to the bunch of humans latching onto each other for their own needs. The mistakes turning into poison, the fear turning into war. And the obsession with power, becoming so great, it destroyed everything in its path to only end in more death. Within victory is truly a disguise of destruction for gains that do not exist. Humans bound them self to their doom, fates sealed to their graves as they wail why. Why do they deserve this. It sickened him to see such plain narcissism.
- 🌊 but when you had came out of no where, seemingly out of thin air only to show him kindness and tenderness without wanting or searching for anything in return. Lacking hidden motive or greed for power. It was new, different from the harsh intentions of the many, many other humans he has encountered during his times surfacing. Different from the intentions he’s seen.
- 🌊 no matter what he did, no matter how many times he huffed and puffed, grunting at you to leave him be. You never did. It confused him. For as long as he could remember, man had been curious, nosey little creatures of destructions. And curious you were.
- 🌊 the soft tips of your fingers fluttered on his scales, barley noticeable to the touch as they gently caressed the thick dark scales that encased his snout. It was nice. The small, warm pads of your hands petting him ohh so gently, it cradled him, soothed him like a lullaby. He subconsciously bugged his enough into your hands, the hot steam from breathing was wet, making your hair stick to your face but the smile never left. Your coworkers stood far from the titan the claimed to be a beast. Who was, in fact enjoying the touch of your hands gliding over the scales.
- 🌊 Godzilla who began to anticipate for your return each time you left to end your work shifts. Which were gentle sessions of affection through Pets as you swabbed his scales to study to scales. It intrigued you how thick the scales had become, though it was obvious that it was for durability when coming in contact with talons, teeth and claws, the biology of them was wanted, for so it was your job to study them. Using tools to your advantage.
- 🌊 he didn’t mind though. As long as it was you. He didn’t care
- 🌊 he seethed each time you were interrupted by the loud blaring of sirens, the weird noises and hand gestures your co worker made to you or the occasional conversation between you and a scientist, all taking you away from him. He didn’t want you to leave. Was he becoming selfish for your time?
- 🌊 you don’t have to worry anymore. Not when he has scooped you up in his claws to wisks you away to somewhere better.

A Day to Remember

Notes: hi babes!! Thank you much for the request, sorry it took so long, school is kicking my ass 😅
Warnings: weddings, romance and everything that comes with it
"No. There's no way I'm gonna have oragami F-16s thrown at my head on my wedding day." You laughed incredulously.
When Bradley had proposed, you thought your life couldn't get any better. You had a dream job, a dream man, and friends that had been exactly what you needed, even though they were unexpected. Telling the squad went exactly how you expected, everyone was more excited than they had been when Roo and Maverick survived the Dagger mission. But no one had been more thrilled than Phoenix. When Pheonix asked to help plan the wedding, you were hesitant at first.
You had first-hand experience with her lack of party-planning skills. Somehow, even though she was incredibly organized during her work, the woman had an utterly disastrous record with parties.
And your wedding was going to be a pretty big party.
But how could you say no to Phoenix? She had been there for you through everything. From showing up at your door with pints of ice cream when your favourite character died in the show you were watching to going full Godzilla on the new recruits that tried to hit on you. It was nearly impossible to say no to her when she pulled her puppy dog eyes out and started reciting every favour you owed her.
So you agreed.
"C'mon, please? It will be cute, I promise." She pleaded as you continued to put your toppings on your pizza.
It was Wednesday, which Phoenix had decided was the designated wedding planning day. She would show up with a bottle of whatever you guys wanted to drink and you would make the pizza, frozen to accommodate for the cooking skills neither of you possessed.
"Look, I already let you get away with the abundance of mason jars, I'm not getting divebombed by a bunch of the planes that we fly." You grinned.
Rolling her eyes, Phoenix conceded, and that was how a lot of the planning was settled. Phoenix would bring up hundreds of crazy ideas, and you would filter through her overly enthusiastic party planning to find the good ones. You and Bob would rein her in whenever she got carried away, especially when she brought up the idea of having a literal rooster at the wedding.
"I think it's hilarious," Rooster said as you two got ready for the day. He came up behind you, turning you around to face him as he lifted you up onto the bathroom counter. Your hands automatically came to rest on his shoulders, fitting perfectly just like the two of you had when you met.
"You have one already and you can't seem to get enough, honey." He continued grinning.
You swatted at his chest, giggling as he began to pepper kisses along your neck, following a path that only he knew down to your collarbone. You tilted your head back to give him access to your soft skin that only he would ever earn, and your words came out in a breathy sigh.
"I think you just-" Your train of thought halted as he sucked on a particularly sensitive spot of your neck. "You just like the idea of a little Roo running around, you brute."
The rest of that morning consisted of him trying to make said 'little Roo' happen, not that you were complaining.
The wedding was 3 months away and you were choosing your dress. Payback had insisted you go to the boutique that his grandmother used to run, saying that you could even get a dress for free. You tried to urge against it, but after his granda met you she wouldn't hear a 'no'.
"Oh, it's so nice that my Rueben made some friends. Let me tell you about the time he.."
So you agreed.
Everything was ready and Phoenix was running around like a madwoman trying to orchestrate the chaos of venues, cakes and flowers into one magnificent symphony. It was 3 days out from the wedding and you had gone with your bridesmaids to the hotel Pheonix had rented to have some much-needed girl time. Rooster and the rest of the guys had done the same, probably off partying somewhere under Mav's watchful eyes.
As you sat getting your nails done, the colour a baby blue that Rooster had picked out, you continued to poke at Phoenix for the details of the wedding. She had demanded to keep you out of the loop when it came to the majority of the venue decoration she had selected. Even Rooster wouldn't spill when you called him that night.
"I don't wanna face her wrath, honey. You know-" He began.
"Hey! No talking to the groom. It's bad luck!" Phoenix said as she plucked the phone from your hand.
When your wedding day finally came, you were a ball of nerves. As you got blindfolded and brought up to bridal sweet to get ready, you could only imagine what combinations of decor she had concocted. In your mind, you replayed the time she tried to throw a Christmas party for the squad that resulted in one too many poppers, a fireplace, and a whole lot of firetrucks.
"Ready, kid?" Maverick's voice broke you out of your thoughts.
Taking one last look in the mirror at yourself, the dress you had picked out making you look like a princess, you nodded and took his arm. As the two of you finally stopped in front of the doors that stood between you and your future, your heart swelled with anticipation. The sound of Bruno Mars 'Just the Way You Are' being played on the piano filled your ears, and Mav straightened where he stood, looking down at you with a proud smile.
"That's our cue, kid. You got this." He whispered to you as the doors opened.
All at once every ounce of fear or worry you had been holding on to dissipated.
Phoenix had outdone herself.
White Calla Lilies hung from the ceiling, surrounded by fairy lights and other perfectly placed bobbles. Every table was decorated with a centrepiece of forget-me-nots and daisies. The teary smiles of your family and friends stared at you in happiness. Even the mason jar candles sat in just the right amounts.
Your eyes locked on Bradley, whose tears were already flowing, and you walked down the aisle without hesitation.
Mav handed you off to Bradley, muttering a few protective words before going to take his seat as the priest began to speak.
"Hey, you." You whispered to Bradley.
"Hey, hun." He choked out through tears.
Both of you stood at the altar, grinning ear to ear at each other. Your vows to each other made sure there wasn't a dry eye left in the room.
"You may now kiss the-" The priest began to say.
He didn't even get a chance to finish before Rooster already had his hands on either side of your face and was slamming his lips to yours. He was kissing you so hard your hands shot out to hold the lapels of his suit jacket so your swooning didn't cause you to fall over.
The crowd erupted in cheers, and you could hear the distinct sound of Hangman and the other guys hooting and hollering as Bradley poured every single ounce of love he had for you into the kiss.
You had your first dance to 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough', and before you knew it you and Rooster were being whisked away by Phoenix for your send-off.
The same send-off that she had refused to tell you about.
"Just don't get mad!" She said quickly.
"Nat? What do you mean? What did you do?" You looked to Rooster for help but he was wearing the same conspiratorial grin as Phoenix.
Before you could say anything else, she was already pushing both of you outside. It took a second for your eyes and ears to adjust to the sight and sound of your cheering loved ones who were lining the steps of the venue. It took even longer to process what you saw in each of their hands.
Instead of baskets of rice, everyone there was holding what looked like a piece of paper. You were about to ask Bradley what was going on, but then something hit you in the side of your head. Startled, you went to turn to see what hit you, only to be greeted with the sight of a mischievous Phoenix holding two origami planes.
Two F-16s to be exact.
Before you could react, you and Rooster were getting pelted by a rain of paper F-16s. You burst out laughing as he grabbed your hand, pulling you to the limo so quickly you barely got a chance to wave goodbye to everyone.
You let out a sigh of contentment as you slipped into the limo, looking back at the perfect venue and perfect friends who had planned it all.
Okay, maybe you'd let Phoenix plan every party you had.

Would you ever write out what the alternate ending for Mostly (H)armless was, even if it’s too much to fully comic? I felt like my heart was torn out by the ending, even if the alternate ending is never realized I’d feel better knowing what else might have happened 😭
I have gotten this question a couple times now and wasn't sure if I should answer this. Because doing so would forever close the door on any alternate ending. But sadly I don't see myself drawing more HFR fancomics... so...
Up until page 41 the story more or less follows a set path. Or at least all roads would lead to page 41. After that I had a couple different scenarios and scenes that I could go for. The version that ended up being made was a mismatch of... basically all of the most horrific ones.
And here are the others:
Scenario 1: Almost got away
There was a version of the story in which Chai and 808 got separated again and Chai would end up on the ground floor rather than way up on the hanging platforms. And he'd lure V1-RS underneat one of those platforms and 808 would drop it right on top of the psycho robot, crushing it. This doesn't kill it but it would be stuck (and furious). And Chai and 808 had the freedom to just... walk away from it, while it's screaming bloody murder at them. However, one of its taunts would make Chai turn back; the one about him being nothing without Vandelay tech and he's lucky his traitor drone (808) saved his skin all this time. This would have pissed Chai off to the point of actually turning back to face V1-RS, wasting enough time that V1-RS frees itself. And this scenario would end tragically similar to the one we got: Chai beating V1-RS without any kind of technology but at the cost of his own life.
I didn't go with it because I didn't want to separate Chai and 808 twice in the span of a handful of pages.
Scenario 2: Only one has to die
In this scenario, V1-RS cutting the platform wires on page 46 actually results in the entire platform crashing to the ground. Chai managed to grab onto one of those Vandelay banners and although it rips it actually slows down his fall enough that he and 808 survive. But in this version the museum is also set ablaze.
Chai and 808 would use the smoke and debris (from Chai's fight at the start of the story) to hide from V1-RS while slowly trying to sneak away. A falling plaform would break a window and that would give them an escape route.
But just as they reach fresh air and can see the night sky, V1-RS would once again manipulate Chai into turning back. This time by saying it's going after the gang instead. Just like in the final story Chai realizes that if he wants to save his friends he isn't going to make it out himself. But this time 808 is still alive so he shoves her into a trash can against her will, apologises and disappears back into the fire.
Chai and 808 are into this adventure together so I felt that either both should live or neither. It became neither in the end.
Scenario 3: Xan cannot resist putting kaiju into everything
A different version of scenario 1. After getting crushed by a platform, V1-RS would have crawled out of its host body like one of those parasitic worms that brainwash insects (don't google that) and forced itself into one of the huge display robots. Then it would have ripped other giant robots apart and taken bits of them to enhance itself into something gigantic and monstrous. Chai and 808 would have taken that time to nope the hell out of the museum. They'd scare a few random civilians still out on the street with their unfortunate appearance and meet up with the gang who'd be glad, and horrified, to see them. The reunion would be cut short as an absolutely gigantic, multiheaded, many-legged robot chimera bigger than ZP-1500 bursts out of the museum.
A high octance chase scene (potentially inspired by godzilla 1998) between Roxanne's poor car and Chimera V1-RS and a climb to the top of Vandelay tower could have been next. And the only right way to end a monster like that would be to somehow skewer it on the old spectra tower.
This scenario would've been cool as shit and a spectacle of (literal) epic proportions.
It also doesn't fit the rest of the story at all. Maybe something like this could have worked had it been a robot kaiju story from the start, rather than a horror comic. Also beating the monster with team work was not the right way to end Mostly (h)Armless. Chai always had to beat V1-RS on his own. That is the point of this story.
Scenario 4: If only 808 hadn't broken
There was a way Chai could have beaten V1-RS without getting hurt (or at least not hurt as badly) if he had only been able to communicate with the rest of the gang. That way Peppermind could have figured out V1-RS obvious weakness... it's an AI. And an AI is only as scary as its database. if Chai had found a way to connect 808 to the old V1-RS computer, Peppermint would have been able to poison its database with random nonsense. She could really upload anything; useless trivia about dolphins, the entire anime bath scene wikia, SCR-UB poems, and all Chai would have to do is keep V1-RS busy and distracted until it was so poisoned it wouldn't be able to function anymore. Then it would be easy to finish off.
Although Chai would get help from Peppermint in this scenario rather than do it all on his own, I think this version of the story could still have worked better than the one I drew. Because Chai defeats V1-RS without his robot powers and while being technically on his own.
Perhaps had I taken more time to think the story over I may have gone with this last version. Although If I had been given time to reflect I would probably not have made a fan comic at all. The only reason Mostly (h)Armless exists is because I turned my brain on autopilot for 10 months.
It was a very weird time and the meme of it feeling like waking up from a year long dream-state wasn't entirely a joke.
So yeah, these are the scenarios I can remember. There were a couple of shorter scenes that got removed but story wise they don't add much.

An Heir to the Throne: The Final Decision
Chapter 3:
It had been a week since the intense conversation between Mothra and Godzilla. The dynamic between the two didn't change, but the atmosphere most certainly did. Both Kaiju knew that at some point the subject would come up again, but neither knew when or how.
As the nights and days passed by, Mothra quickly became impatient with the thought of them avoiding it. To take her mind off of everything, she planned a trip back to Hallow Earth to have some time to herself. As the new day came in, Godzilla was surprised to see Mothra awake along with him. His snout gently nuzzled into her fluff as he gets her attention. "Why are you awake so early my queen? Is something the matter?" he questions, worry obvious in his tone. She picks up on this and quickly nudges her head against him. "No my king, everything is fine. I will be traveling to Hallow Earth to check on the tribe. I will also make sure there's no trouble happening that may bubble up to the surface." she trills calmly, quickly easing Godzilla's previous thoughts. Mothra perched herself on top of Godzilla's back as they made their way out of the nest and down to the beach.
"Please, be safe my queen." Godzilla huffs quietly, getting a small content chirp from her. "I will, my king." she assures him, laying her head onto his as their bioluminescence dances between them. After saying their goodbyes, Mothra lifts herself into the sky as Godzilla made his way to the sea. They knew their time apart would be short, but necessary for the development of their current situation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It did not take long for the humans to catch onto Mothra's plans. She watched as they scrambled to catch up to her in their small metal birds, their curiosity amusing to her. As Mothra approached a shallow pool nearing an unmarked island, she braced herself as she dove head first into it. The process of getting from one world to the next was no sweat for her, but did take great effort for the poor humans wanting to follow. Within seconds Mothra was already adjusted, gliding effortlessly through the crisp morning air. Emitting a short warning cry, the queen quickly arrived to her destination. Thankfully, the silk barrier she had put up earlier was undisturbed.
Not wanting to break through it, Mothra decided to take a brisk stroll around the area for any signs of trouble. Her eyes scanned endlessly around the dense trees, rocky nearby mountains, and various critters scattered around. After a thorough search, everything seemed to be clear with no immediate danger present. As Mothra took to the sky again, the screech of a Giant Condor caught her attention. The large Kaiju traveled alongside her, crying feverishly at the opportunity to see the queen again. It had been many many years since Mothra had seen such a creature, its beauty was well developed since then. Though it reminded her of that treacherous traitor Rodan, she nodded humbly to her as a sign of respect. The Condor nodded in return before looking behind her, a gentle cry calling to them both as Mothra turned as well. An incredibly young hatchling had been trailing behind the two, trying its best to keep up with its mother as its obvious first time flying. The small condor turned to its mother for approval before approaching Mothra, screeching nervously as it bumps into one of her legs. Mothra chuckles at this before leaning down slightly, her bioluminescence glowing brightly as she helps calm the condors fears. It caws again, bumping clumsily into her forehead as a goodbye before heading back to its mother.
As Mothra watched them both leave, slight envy gradually picked away at her. She wanted to feel the same pride and joy, the same happiness at the mere sight of her own offspring. Before she could let it consume her, Mothra turned away to start making the trek back home. She had been noticing more and more hatchlings appear recently, chalking it up to being that time of season. It was almost maddening, longing for the same life but knowing the road to it was almost impossible. In the midst of her thoughts, she remembered another encounter just before she left to be with Godzilla:
Mothra was saying her temporary goodbyes to the Iwi people, watching them crowd around her. Some sobbed at her departure, others cheered quietly for her return. As some were more outgoing than others, Mothra almost instantly noticed a young woman shuffling through the crowd. Lowering herself down to get a better look, the woman approaches the queen to present a small bundle of cloth. Mothra's eyes widen as the bundle unravels to reveal a newborn baby, its tiny delicate features encapsulated her. From that moment on, she could not get the idea of offspring out of her mind.
As the sweltering heat of the day turned to a calm cool evening, Mothra had already found the portal, but halted herself from returning so soon. She felt almost at war with herself, debating if she should bring it up again or let it fester in her mind. After another brief flash back of the youngling from before, she made up her mind. This was now or never.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Godzilla had been swimming through the endless oceans, taking brief rests here and there and enjoying the opportunity to do what he wanted for the day. Even though the day was to himself, the wellbeing of his queen held firm at the back of his mind. He enjoyed returning home to check on her, and bringing her food and small gifts he found during his patrols. He knew he'd be seeing her later tonight, but still felt the nipping feeling of loneliness that he had forgotten about upon her arrival.
Along with Mothra, the conversation from before also never left his mind. Previously, the presence of children was not something he was worried about. But the more he thought of it, the more it made sense to try. The strength and intelligence of their offspring would surpass every Kaiju inhabiting this planet. And to raise that hatchling would be quite prideful to him. The more he let it linger, the more he agreed it to be something worth trying.
Though the initial idea sounds wonderful, there are still con's to becoming parents of an interspecies kaiju. The hatchling could be far too underdeveloped or defective to the point of early death. If it somehow turned out ok, Godzilla would have to give up his free time, resources, and most of his sanity to care for the youngling. The humans would become much more pesky, and the danger of other kaiju potentially wanting to kill it would be much greater. Just the mere thought of it irritated Godzilla to pieces.
Interrupting his thoughts, the familiar sound of a humpback whale caught his attention. At first, he thought it would be great to hunt for his own amusement. But the moment he got closer, his eyes locked onto a much smaller creature following behind it. The young whale calf swam carelessly around its mother, clicking and crying into the deep blue of the ocean below. Godzilla watched intently, recognizing that this was an incredibly rare occurrence to witness. Whales, much like kaiju, take quite a while to produce offspring. A tender call rang out from the calf to Godzilla as it noticed his presence. Though he was a good distance away, the calf could not comprehend just how large Godzilla truly was. The king found this amusing, and with a low growl, he successfully startled the young whale back to its mother.
Though he initially wanted to hunt, he felt it wrong to do so to a mother and her young. Without a moment of hesitation, Godzilla backed away to head home. He could sense his queens return, and knew she'd be happier knowing why he came back empty handed.
During this swim, he had made his final decision on the topic of offspring. Now, he just needed to figure out how to say it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mothra sat quietly in their nest, her mind deeply lost in thought as she stared longingly to the open sky. It didn't take long for Godzilla to return home either, his quick movement reverbing through the island like an echoing cave. Mothra took a deep breath, turning to greet her king at the entrance with an excited trill.
"How was the visit?" Godzilla questioned, settling in snuggly beside her. "It was wonderful. I saw many new creatures and ran into an old friend on the way." she purred, snuggling into his forearm. She asked him the same, to which he dismissed as the usual. After a moment of hesitation, Mothra found this to be the perfect opportunity to bring it up again. This time, she was as determined as ever.
"Gojira.." she started, straightening herself out into a more serious position. "This is very important. I'm sorry to spring this on you now, but I need to know. Are you willing to mate with me or not?"
"Yes my queen. I think its time we give it a try."
"Please Gojira, I-.." she pauses, looking up at him with wide eyes. After a moment of stunned silence, her voice breaks slightly as she speaks. "You.. want to try? Are you serious?" she questions again, getting another confident yes from Godzilla. "You were right. Now is the best time to try. I'm willing to take the risks and.. I want to make you happy. Let us try for offspring, and bond as true mates while we raise them."
Mothra sits and listens uninterrupted. As he speaks, a wave of relief and happiness wash over her as she crawls into Godzilla's arms. He looks down at her surprised for a moment before asking if she's ok, to which she nods. "I'm just... so relieved.." she sighs, feeling Godzilla begin to groom her neck and wings.
"Well I guess now the only thing I'm questioning is how are we going to do this?" he asks, getting a smug look from Mothra. "You'll be happy to know I've taken my time to change as well, making sure my current form is capable of bearing your offspring. Or at least, that's what I attempted. The only way to know is to try." she sighs, getting an intrigued huff from Godzilla. He gently licks her fluff again before nuzzling her.
"Then I'm ready when you are to find out."
Okay.
I don't often gush about movies on this blog. Hell, I don't often go to the movies anymore. I just don't have the attention span for it. And I honestly was going to give this one a miss until someone who's opinion I trust was adamant that I needed to see this film right now on the biggest screen possible while I still had the chance. So, FOMO out won over, and I went to go see Godzilla Minus One in Imax.
...
Look, I've been a Godzilla fan practically all my life. My family used to rent those old english dubs of the films on VHS from Blockbuster in the early nineties. I grew up with these monsters. But I have to admit, I've never seen the original, nor have I seen Shin Godzilla. To me, Godzilla is about one thing and one thing only.
Fuck.
Yeah.
Gimme the big monsters just going HAM on each other. Rubber suits, CGI, I don't care! I want the big boys with beef to beef with a large side of cheese!
I guess that's why Godzilla 2014 ultimately left me feeling kind of cold while I absolutely loved KOTM despite how stupid a lot of it was. I just want my big monsters absolutely wrecking shit.
This was different. I knew it was going to be different. A remake of the original Godzilla, this time from the viewpoint of the common citizens still trying to get their lives together after WW2? I knew I was in for some heavy drama.
What I didn't expect was one of the most amazing theater experience I have ever had.
And I'm not just saying that because the movie is good, even though it is.
I'm not just saying that because the movie is great, even though it is.
I'm not just saying that because it's a goddamn masterpiece, even though it is.
I'm saying that because it's about as close to perfect of a film as you can get, and not just of a Godzilla movie, but just as a movie!
Like, it's a running joke that you can cut the human characters out of any Godzilla movie. Here, you could cut Godzilla out and still have a great movie. That's how good the human side of things was.
Like, you really grow attached to these people who have literally lost everything. You grow invested in their struggles, in their relationships, in their baggage, in their love for one another. You come to care about them and are genuinely happy as they eke out a new life after having their homes literally blown to bits. You just want to see them succeed and be happy together.
And that's when Godzilla shows up.
This movie is called Godzilla Minus One in reference to how post-war Japan was basically a Zero Society, left devastated by the conflict. And these people who literally were left with nothing suddenly find even that ripped away as an enormous monster just starts rampaging through the recovering cities.
And this time, Godzilla isn't an avenging hero. He's not a destructive anti-hero. He's not a fun mascot. He's not even a poor, suffering monster unaware of the destruction that he's wreaking. This Godzilla is goddamn menace, an outright monster that is absolutely terrifying. He wants to crush, kill, and destroy. This is Godzilla at his most actively malicious, and all you can do is gape up in horror with these people that you've come to care so much about, wondering how in the hell are they supposed to deal with this!
I won't give away how the day is eventually saved, only to say that it is a masterclass of character-driven suspense and emotion. You honestly come to root for the humans for once. You want to see them succeed, and are genuinely in fear for their lives. No exaggeration, I had my heart in my throat and tears in my eyes all throughout the climax. I don't cry during movies, and this movie made me sob like a baby. It was that good.
And it also had so much to say! Not only about Japan's collective trauma following the nuclear bombs or the other bombing raids like the original, but also about how the Japanese government dehumanized its own people during the war, treating them as expendable resources to fuel the war machine. The main character is a freaking kamikaze pilot who lost his nerve and abandoned his mission, and that plus another act of what he saw as cowardice haunts him throughout the movie, and while it realistically shows how such a person would be treated like a pariah by his former friends and neighbors, it is nothing but sympathetic toward him. He blames himself constantly, but the narrative never seems to.
And there's just this wonderful moment near the end, when it's clear that the government isn't coming to the rescue, so it's up to the common man to band together and find a solution, when a few men leave the mission for fear of their lives and that of their families, and are not condemned for it. And the scientist spearheading the whole thing gives this lovely little speech about how carelessly life has been treated during the war, from the kamikazes to the poorly maintained supply chains to how the common folk were left to fend for themselves, and he hopes to just once be able to secure a win that doesn't sacrifice any more lives. Wow.
I know it's probably too late for anyone else to see it, because I'm pretty sure it's theatrical run ends today. I just wanted to get this review off my chest, because wow, this was the best movie I've seen all year. What a goddamn masterpiece.
Hi! I see a lot of screenshots and such from your blog for things like (I believe) Kamen Rider(?) I might be wrong please forgive me if so. I have always had a sort of vague interest in sentai media but never knew good hopping on points, do you have any personal recommendations for where an absolute beginner might jump in to watch shows like that?
if you're interested in tokusatsu, you can really start anywhere that looks cool or interesting to you! most seasons, aside from some anniversaries and the very rare sequel show, are pretty self-contained for the most part. diehard fans will make a big deal out of "good and bad starting points" but the truth is every show has been someone's first and hooked them on the genre, even the "bad" seasons (the poor quality of which is often exaggerated by fandom anyway) or the experimental entries not indicative of the wider franchise they're part of
but! if you want some real beginner friendly, you'll-probably-have-fun-with-this toku, my go-to recs for The Big Three™:
if you want to follow a team of heroes grow together as they fight evil in increasingly silly scenarios, super sentai's probably the series for you (and my favorite ^_^)
watch kiramager if you want a straightforward throwback to classic sentai. it's a back-to-basics season that gives you a good baseline of what sentai as a whole can be, while elevated enough by its stellar cast and infectious energy so as to never feel generic
shinkenger takes a more dramatic approach to the usual sentai formula, following a team of samurai recruited to serve under a lord who isn't telling them everything he knows. an incredibly stylish show that's almost sure to leave an impression
kamen rider began as a tragic hero, kidnapped by the villainous organization shocker and turned into a cyborg against his will, ultimately escaping and using his newfound abilities to put an end to their evil. since the original story, kamen rider has gone through a whole host of various different tones and storylines, arguably becoming the most versatile of the big franchises, though certain elements remain consistent like the near ever-present bug motif or our heroes using powers derived from evil for the sake of good
created in the wake of the 2011 tohoku earthquake disaster, kamen rider fourze was made with the goal to make children smile again, and that desire led to something really special. arguably The Power of Friendship™ show to end all others, and while its upbeat tone might not exactly be in line with Classic Kamen Rider™, it stands as a great entry point thanks to the passion behind it and its clear love for the genre
probably best experienced as blind as possible, kamen rider build is a rollercoaster of a series full of high stakes, mystery, intrigue, and Heated Drama Between Men™. if you want something more serialized that'll keep you on the edge of your seat throughout, build's one of the very best
i also wanna mention kamen rider gotchard, the currently airing series! we're only 8 episodes in at the time of this post, so you could catch up quick while still going through the backlog. very much a back-to-basics season, introducing pokemon-style creatures for our protagonists to catch in addition to the usual superheroics. it's been pretty cute so far :)
ultraman is a sci-fi series that typically follows a defense team created to defend the earth from aliens and kaiju, aided by the giant of light, ultraman. as opposed to the other two franchises where there's often a serial plot to follow and a centralized villain faction, ultra typically thrives with telling standalone sci-fi stories, usually aligning with a show's overarching theme and often compared to shows like star trek or the twilight zone, though recent seasons have been more willing to switch up the format
ultraman x is for anyone who's ever asked, "but... what if we could be friends with godzilla?" young XiO scientist daichi becomes bonded with the alien ultraman x and work together to protect the earth and fight for a future where humans, aliens, and kaiju can coexist. to me this is like, the platonic ideal of what ultraman is, and a perfect starting point because of it. also features several crossover episodes with past ultra seasons throughout the show, but it's all still very new-viewer friendly and could even entice you to check out some of those shows yourself!
ultraman orb, the 50th anniversary of the series, changes course by making the defense team a background component in favor of following amateur investigators and the mysterious, lone wanderer who's suddenly entered their lives (hint: he's ultraman). another iconic entry in the Heated Drama Between Men Cinematic Universe and a nice balance between ultra's classic status quo and a more modern ongoing narrative
i'd also be remiss not to mention the currently airing ultraman blazar, which i unfortunately have not been able to keep up with due to outside circumstances but have heard NOTHING but glowing praise for. it's simulcast on youtube every week with english subtitles AND an optional english dub!
pretty much all of these can be snagged over at nyaa(.)si, and x and orb can be watched legally over on tubitv(.)com!
#if you have any more questions feel free to ask!#anonymous#asks#kendrix morgan died for our sins#super sentai for ts#kamen rider for ts#ultraman for ts
Shimo x (human?) reader (Headcanons)
────────────────────────────
English is not my first language
────────────────────────────
❆ Shimo is actually a very good girl. It just needs time to adapt to the outside world as well as in the hollow ground.
❆ I think she will be curious about people, because this is the first time she has seen such small creatures.
Most likely, he will protect them in the same way as Kong.
❆ Shimo is essentially an affectionate puppy.
She'll love your touch on her, even though you're too small. She will reach out to you if she trusts you.
❆ As for trust. Although she is curious, she will not immediately make contact. Thousands of years under torturous control have taken their toll. Shimo, I say it again, it takes time.
❆ This Titan won't stop poking his muzzle into your body if he loves you. Stroke it wherever you want.
The eyelids, around the nostrils, the jaw, it's all yours. The main thing is to be gentle. Shimo still turns a blind eye to the sudden movements.
❆ Spending the summer season with her is the most blissful. Too hot? Ok. This ice princess will cool down any place for you, just don't hesitate to ask.
❆ Sometimes he can take you for a ride on his back. Of course, she's worried about you. Have you seen its dimensions? It is unlikely that she will sense your fall from her icy ledges. If only a piercing scream.
That's why you're more likely to sit on her muzzle, grabbing the blue crown
❆ Her eyes are always open in surprise when walking with you. Any story from you is very interesting for her. And when you show her something, for example, the same sunset or a dark starry sky, her fairy-tale gaze cannot tear itself away from this process.
She literally freezes in place and can't accept that she can now look at it every day.
❆ Sometimes she calls you.
She's just glad to see you by her side. At such a moment, she really feels free.
❆ She is still haunted by nightmares that cause her to freeze everything around her. That's why you try to calm her down until she freezes you.
Based on this, Shimo does not let you near him while sleeping.
❆ Godzilla surprisingly doesn't look for the two of you on earth. Considering his previous attack on Kong, this time he most likely understood what was going on and did not bother your pleasant pastime.
Although the first time he sailed to the place where you were sitting, he did nothing wrong.
He just yelled until Shimo intervened.
You are proud of your lovely woman.
❆ Shimo as Mothra is also very protective. If she finds out that something has happened to you, she will not find a place for herself. She won't rest until she finds you.
Just don't disturb her or make her worry.
❆ Shimo just deserves love. Hug her and give her compliments, praise her. Anything.
She needs it.
In return, she will give you a love you didn't know.
Meet my “Inside Out” crew!
I’m doing “parts work” in therapy. It’s where I take aspects of my personality or emotions and assign them a name/face. These are not DID alters, it’s more like a poker hand where they’re all there all the time, it’s just some may be in conflict or upset. I assigned them an appearance or a fictional character that I feel matches them.
For example: I’ve realized I have outward trauma reactions when Trauma and Angry Fighter clash. They want to fight because they have the same goal and can’t agree on how to achieve it, so I have to step in as the core and keep them apart.
A big chunk of my therapy is figuring out what all these parts do and what they want.
So let’s meet them! Strap in, there’s 10 of them.
MY PARTS
Seasonal Anxiety— transparent deer in the woods, usually feels caught in headlights of oncoming vehicles. This poor thing pees cortisol everywhere all the time. She knows there is danger in all directions, from tigers, hunters with guns, vehicles and unseen holes in the dark. She is afraid to move because it might mean she gets hurt or causes someone else to get hurt. She doesn’t feel heard when she cries out in warning and gets hit by cars a lot, but still she tries to warn when she sees the light beams from Watchtower. She is terrified of the other parts, but Curious is taking notice of her existence. Angry Fighter is the only part that listens to Seasonal Anxiety, with disastrous effects. She is terrorized by Trauma during traumaversaries.
Territory: Amygdala, often hijacks the limbic system.
Watchtower— a lighthouse on a cliffside overlooking the sea. It is the hypervigilance always scanning every horizon for danger and distress. If anything on the horizon changes, it activates whatever other parts need to wake up to act. It NEVER turns off. The light will be bright or dim, but it is always on, sweeping, waiting. Its beam gets distorted by Black Hole Depression, which pisses off Angry Fighter and scares Seasonal Anxiety with constant false alarms.
Territory: occipital lobe, though the beam sweeps the whole brain.
Angry Fighter— Monsterverse Godzilla, big, angry, can topple a city and destroy everything in his path. He sees the danger and fear and responds by trying to fight, to restore balance, because that’s what Monsterverse Godzilla’s role is in those movies. He doesn’t tolerate what he thinks is injustice and is very loud about speaking up when anxiety isn’t stuck in the way. Curious tries to reason with him and he just steps on her and tramples over Imaginative Writer during his fights with Black Hole Depression and Trauma.
Territory: sleeps in the cerebellum, roams the limbic system, likely to hijack the amygdala and frontal lobes when rampaging.
Curious— 13th Doctor from Doctor Who, she is the one who asks questions, wants to know all the reasons for everything and runs around through time and space looking for answers. She is hungry to understand what all this means and how all these parts connect. She tries unsuccessfully to reason with Angry Fighter and is trying to talk to Seasonal Anxiety. She’s afraid of Trauma, but wants to understand him.
Territory: cerebral cortex, prefers higher thought areas.
Imaginative Writer— a tiny mouse in a tiny office typing on the tiniest keyboard you’ll ever see. She wrote all these profiles and she does the work of translating concepts into words. Sometimes she squeaks out ideas and sometimes the other parts listen. She writes all kinds of fanfiction, though not all of it gets typed, and she gets absorbed in fictional stories. Curious and Bubbly Butterfly are her buddies, they feed her creativity. Battles between Angry Fighter, Trauma and Black Hole Depression demolish her office frequently, which she hates. She activates Watchtower and Seasonal Anxiety with her squeaks when things go awry. All she wants is for the noisy parts to shut up and leave her alone to type in peace!
Territory: Precuneus region, with messages sent to Wernicke’s area and Broca’s area.
Critic— looks like Rita Repulsa from the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and she barks in her screechy voice at everything the other parts do. She never has anything nice to say and makes everybody else feel like crap. She’s almost as hated as Black Hole Depression. Angry Fighter stomps her fortress all the time and she just rebuilds it and carries on being nasty.
Territory: Cerebral cortex, where she sometimes punches down into the limbic system or hippocampus.
Bubbly Butterfly— a sparkly, iridescent butterfly surrounded by bubbles, her sparkling wings and bubbles act as a shroud to cover up the other parts. She flits around, lighthearted, making jokes when things get bad and tries to be social, though it often falls flat. People often find her irritating. She just wants to be liked and to make people feel better. Trauma and Black Hole Depression terrify her and she unsuccessfully tries to keep them hidden from everybody else.
Territory: limbic system and frontal lobes.
Black Hole Depression— a black hole that bends time, space and matter around it. It absorbs everything, it is in excruciating pain, it feels unloved, unheard, ignored and dismissed. Oftentimes it doesn’t care what happens to it or those around it. It is afraid anyone who comes too close will be sucked in or flung away. It unbalances and distorts everything by sucking up too much serotonin and spitting out norepinephrine as radioactive jets. It thinks it destroys everything it touches. NOBODY LIKES IT. Everybody is afraid of it except Angry Fighter, who often steps in and starts fights to keep the balance. I don’t know what purpose it serves.
Territory: basal ganglia, with its gravity affecting the orbitofrontal cortex the most.
Trauma— Godzilla from “Godzilla Minus One”, is sometimes hidden in the glare of Black Hole Depression’s accretion disk. They’re in a symbiotic relationship. Everybody except Angry Fighter runs for cover when Trauma emerges, and Black Hole Depression tends to follow the paths of his rampages because it’s free food. He’s in pain, enraged, hates everything and wants whatever woke him up to be obliterated. When he wakes up and rampages, he destroys everything in his path. He terrorizes Seasonal Anxiety with roars and stomps during traumaversaries, to never let her forget. His atomic beam throws the entire brain into chaos. Angry Fighter tangles with him sometimes, but it's always a draw.
Territory: orbitofrontal cortex until he rampages, then the entire brain is caught up in his wrath.
Insight— Piccolo from Dragonball Z/Super. This quiet part is an observer that prefers to sit off to the side from the others and contemplate. He is responsible for the other parts being discovered, he directs the core to Curious when questions arise, and he wants the core to believe in herself more. His sphere of influence seems to grow during training, and he trains whenever the core is in a therapy session or practicing what she learned from her therapist.
Territory: Hippocampus, but his training takes him to the limbic system, precuneus region and cerebral cortex.
Kaiju Weeks in Review (March 31-April 13, 2024)
It took forever (maybe they were waiting on the returns for Godzilla x Kong), but Apple TV+ has finally greenlit season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. According to its listing on the WGA site, it'll run from 2024 to 2025. Multiple spinoffs are also in development at Apple; no details on those yet.
Speaking of Godzilla x Kong, it continues to do well, staying #1 at the domestic box office in its second weekend and falling to #2 (behind Civil War) in its third. Current totals are $158 million domestic and $437 million worldwide. It'll soon pass the domestic gross of Kong: Skull Island and the total gross of Godzilla vs. Kong.
Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II #1 promises more of everything: more heroes (the White Ranger joins our heroes from the first comic), more villains (including Psycho Ranger Ghidora up there), and more alternate universes. Godzilla gets a bit buried in all the Ranger antics though.
A couple of kaiju series debuted on TV too: Kaiju No. 8 and Season 2 of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again. The former followed the manga very closely, and as such didn't really keep my attention; hopefully it innovates a bit more going forward. Chibi Godzilla's as irreverent as ever.
Tsuburaya Productions has released preliminary information on the next installment of the Ultra Series, Ultraman Arc. The logline:
A town called Hoshimoto City... On Mt. Shishio, there is a gigantic object towering above the city. Named "Monohorn," (モノホーン, Monohōn) it is actually a kaiju’s horn stuck in the ground since an incident 16 years ago. After the incident known as "K-DAY" in which kaiju appeared all over the world at the same time, monster disasters have become commonplace. In Japan, the Global Defense Force (GDF) uses force to deal with them, while SKIP works closely with the community in scientific investigations and evacuation guidance to prevent the occurrence and aggravation of kaiju disasters. SKIP has also been investigating the Monohorn, the horn of the galactic beast Monogelos (モノゲロス, Monogerosu) that appeared on K-DAY. Yuma, then only 7 years old, was camping with his parents in Mt. Shishio when Monogelos attacked. After miraculously surviving unscathed, he decided to pursue research into monster biology. Despite his traumatic past, he has not lost his “power of imagination” to dream. As a rookie investigator, Yuma joined SKIP and was assigned to the Hoshimoto City Branch. Not long after, another large-scale monster disaster occurs in Hoshimoto City. As Yuma sees the desperate people in front of him, a strong will springs into his mind — “I want to protect them!” At the moment when this strong and straightforward desire welled up from the bottom of his heart, Yuma hears the voice of Rution (ルティオン, Rution) a being of light that he once saw as a child: “You and I are one and the same… Unleash your imagination!” When a mysterious light appears in Yuma's hand and envelops his body, the unleashed power of imagination unites light and man and he transforms into Ultraman Arc, the Giant of Light who protects the future! Alongside his precious friends, Yuma, as well as Ultraman Arc, races towards his everlasting dream!
Yuma is played by Yuki Totsuka, while Takanori Tsujimoto is the lead director. He's directed for the series since Ultraman X, but this is his biggest assignment to date.
After beginning to release select Movie Monster Series figures in the States, Bandai America is now fully back in the Godzilla game, with articulated figures, 5-inch vinyls, blind box figures, and transforming eggs all up for preorder at the Godzilla Store and other toy sites. The eggs come from the 2014 Godzilla-E.G. line and the rest is all-new. Not much of a selection so far, but with how big Godzilla is right now, I'm sure there'll be more to come.
SRS Cinema has opened preorders for its War of the Ninja Monsters: Jaron vs. Goura Blu-ray, due in late July or August. Shinpei Hayashiya's latest epic, it'll come with behind-the-scenes footage and maybe a commentary track, which would be nice given how little information is available about his films online.
