okay so. am i the only person who thinks its a little ridiculous to say you cant think a character is attractive because said character is a minor when said character is a) a teenager and b) animated?
like im sorry but i dont think its immoral to look at a drawing of a fictional 14 year old and think theyre hot.
and i also dont think its an immoral act to have them in a tournament of "most attractive X character" because those tournaments almost entirely consist of two pictures of fictional characters and a poll asking which is more attractive.
theyre not real. its a drawing of a person, and that person isnt actually 14 because theyre not real. in the media theyre in, they are canonically 14 but that media itself is entirely fictional.
like this is all just thought crime. its puritanism in the name of "progress". its people flagellating themselves for thinking one of the shadows on the wall is hot.
and i just think thats fucking ridiculous.

okay like how the FUCK do you shade in digital art? I got the whole clipping thing down, I understand multiply, but like... fucking HOW?!?! I'm a child of traditional art, but I wanted to try digital art to save money--but I can't fucking shade a THING. I have a sort of realistic cartoony/animeish style? I draw cartoony, but I do realistic shading with very vibrant highlighting. I'm using Medibang Paint Pro. I've been trying for about 3 hours now to no avail. I would appreciate your help! :D
There's miltiple ways of shading.
The first and most common is additive shading- to clip to the main colours and add shading to areas using multiply or shade as layer types. So it looks more like this with the shading being applied only where it needs to be and them you can blend it to make it more smooth:

The second one I use is called reductive shading. In this way you clip the layer to the colours and use multiply or shade as a layer to make it look dark and you bucket the whole thing to be dark. Then you erase the parts you want to not be shaded. You can then blend the areas and it looks more smooth. Its hard to explain it and the image I'll show as an example is a very complex traditional piece of art but the principle is the same. You are focusing on creating highlights with reductive shading, instead of focusing on shade. The key to reductive shading is to use the shadows to create mood. When I get my laptop up later I'll give a quick example of how I do it in Sai.
