Excuse me but could you please tell me what makes a good story?I have been studying writing and I wish to hear others opinion on this matter. Thank you.

That's a pretty subjective question, but I can at least tell you what makes a good story to me. Well-rounded characters. I don't care much for extensive world building or complex plots, if the characters suck.

Every character serves a purpose, do not put them in 2D boxes like love-interest or friend. Treat them like a person, a real person, with wants, desires and flaws. I tend to get bored reading plot-centered stories, my favorite scenes are talking between two compelling characters. But this can easily fall into petty drama crap, so dialogue is important and not making stupid characters that make you want to tear your hair out.

I should mention that what makes a good story is not the same as what makes a popular story. I've read plenty of new york best sellers YA trash and make no mistake it's trash. I read it cause its amusing the same way junk food is, but is it a good story? Hell no.

ASiR was so close to being good but now everytime i remember how they treated sasha + its adamant refusal to have feathertail's justifiable trauma be taken seriously by her clanmates/the narrative, it just sours the whole thing for me :/

It's very hard stepping through all the hoops of having to prove you're not a proshipper because people throw that word around like a game of hot potato and don't understand it's really not for TomTord, and even if you see TomTord as a strictly abusive dynamic, it's still not a proship; as far as I'm concerned, a proship is a relationship between two or more people, in which at least one of them can not consent to for any reason but it's excused because it's fictional or whatever

This could be like my worst take ever but I'll die by it, TomTord can be grimdark and messed up and oh my God the amount of fics I've seen with Tord alone where he does despicable things is crazy, but it doesn't have to be, Eddsworld has the beauty of being super baseline at times where yes the characters have defining personality traits, but any version of a character can be seen as canon because of a lack of compliance within it's own canon and because the characters, first and foremost, were made for comedy skits so they don't have much story surrounding them
