since i gave a sneak peek of the brosca/morrigan moments in this chapter, it only seems fair i do the same for the aeducan/leliana moment:
Those thoughts follow her as she passes through the large doors into the courtyard, and she’s so absorbed in her plans on how to untangle this mess, Marja almost doesn’t notice Leliana sitting upon the stone stairway, still strumming at her lute.
Almost. But their eyes meet, and Leliana smiles and beckons her over. And as much as Marja suddenly wishes she could take a page from Morrigan’s books and simply flee into the sky above, she approaches.
“Bodahn really outdid himself with that gift, didn’t he?” Marja observes, and Leliana laughs as she sets the lute to the side.
“I am quite fond of it, I admit. It has been too long since I’ve picked up an instrument- the Chant was sung without accompaniment back in…in Lothering.” Her face falls at the mention of the village, and Marja settles down to take a seat next to her- not too close, but close enough to hopefully offer a show of support.
“I know it’s difficult. Are you okay?”
Leliana nods. “I am. I still remember it all fondly. I only wish the demons had not twisted those memories into something so cruel.”
“I know what you mean. They weren’t exactly kind with my memories, either.”
“No, I expect not.” Leliana glances back down at her lute, plucking idly at a single string as she speaks. “We have not had much time to talk since the Circle…but I did want to take this chance to apologize.”
Marja blinks, taken aback. “Apologize?”
“For how I acted in the Fade,” Leliana explains, stumbling over herself in a sudden rush to get the words out. “First I did not even remember you, and then I… well, I was not thinking clearly, and when my memories returned I was so overcome with relief…I simply acted without consideration.”
Ancestors, Marja can feel herself turning red. She doesn’t know which is worse- the fact that the mere mention of Leliana’s kiss has her so flustered, or the fact that Leliana very clearly is aware of how much it has affected her. “Oh. So, you do remember that.”
“My mind was muddled by the Fade, but…yes, I do.” Leliana still won’t meet Marja’s eyes, and Marja wishes for nothing more than to melt into the stone below. She wishes Leliana had forgotten the kiss; that would be better than this drawn-out rejection. She wishes she knew the right words to say to cushion this blow, to laugh it off. It should be easy; Marja has wielded words as weapons often enough. But with Leliana, her well-practiced diplomacy sticks in her throat, and she can only stay silent as Leliana continues.
“And I realize it was unexpected, and perhaps that was unfair. You must understand that your friendship is very dear to me, and of course I did not intend to make you uncomfortable in any way. But you have been avoiding me ever since, and- and I simply wanted to assure you that I will not be so presumptuous again.”
It’s that last part that finally stirs Marja from her silence. “You didn’t make me uncomfortable,” she says quickly, and relief colors Leliana’s face. Marja suddenly understands the bard’s recent behavior in an entirely new light, and it is with a racing heart that she gathers the courage to add, “You never make me uncomfortable.”
A long, terrible moment passes in which Marja fears she misread the situation after all. But then Leliana smiles, and her finger’s close around Marja’s. “Good. I…feel the same. That is, I feel comfortable around you. I feel safe. It may not sound like much, but it has been a very long time since I have felt this way about anybody. You are a wonderful friend and…and sometimes, I wonder if we could be…more. More than friends.” She takes a deep breath, which turns into a laugh as she shakes her head at herself. “Maker…look at me stumbling over my words. Some bard I am. I promise, I am usually better at this.”
“You’re faring better than I am,” Marja says honestly. Even this light touch has her heart pounding in her ears, and even now she is still half-certain that this is all merely her imagination. “I’ve never actually done anything like this before. But allow me to say, you are not being presumptuous. I think I want the same things you do.” She laughs, self-conscious in a manner which she is completely unaccustomed to. “And here I thought I was being obvious.”
“Obvious?” Leliana repeats, and the indignance in her voice might be alarming if it weren’t softened by a pleased smile. “Oh, I feel like a fool. Here you are, feeling the same way I do, and nobody thought to inform me! Oh, you made me go and say all those silly things, when you could have said them first! How embarrassing.”
She shakes her head again, still laughing at herself. Even so, she shifts closer to Marja, and it is with a new coyness that she adds, “But it is good to know that my advances were not unwanted.”
“Not at all,” Marja looks up at Leliana, with her bright eyes and glowing smile, suddenly so close. Close enough to touch, if Marja is brave enough. “Although to be honest…it all happened so quickly, I didn’t have much time to appreciate it.”
“Oh?” That smile turns teasing, and Leliana leans even closer, her nose brushing against Marja’s. “Maybe this will be better, then.”
Her thumb traces against Marja’s jaw, and finally, finally, their lips meet.
This is nothing like the kiss in the Fade. Marja had been truthful in saying that was too quick, too shocking, too haunted by the spirits lurking in the background. Now, however, they can take their time; Leliana’s lips can move softly against Maraj’s, gentle and cajoling and sweet as the woman herself.
Leliana doesn’t move away, even after they break apart. Instead the two stay close, foreheads touching, as Leliana gauges Marja’s reaction. “Well?”
Marja laughs breathlessly. “Yes, that was…that was good. But maybe we should try a few more times, just to be safe.”

meet the mun
1. what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have?
I always credit Melissa to a combo of three particular things: a) my personal interest and passion for the Japanese nightlife scene and its uniqueness; b) the movie 'Sucker Punch' (and particularly the character of Vera Gorski); and c) a post that once made the rounds when I first joined the FFVII rpc that wondered if the Turks didn't visit Wall Market for the chili fries or because the girls happened to have the best intel.
And then it was like something clicked inside - I sudden had this 'vision' and Melissa was born after some crafting as a brothel madame who had strong mama bear/caring and nurturing vibes and who had set herself in opposition to Corneo. The two alternatives in terms of earning people's loyalty (fear/love), a cold war of sorts, a lot of fun and layered dynamics to play with from a Wall Market perspective (such as trading intel, working as an informant, etc) and tying in to the game main events.
I always preferred to pick 'minor' muses or to craft characters that fill in spaces and make a world livelier - Melissa just felt right. I guess she works nicely because no one ever thought it was absurd to have Corneo as a nemesis - even with Remake revamping the HBI and making it something else, I decided to stick to my OG view and I was incredibly well-accepted! :)
2. is there anything you don't like to write?
I am very plot driven - and therefore threads that are just winging something and with no ulterior purpose just bore me and I lose muse fast. I like threads to be like book chapters, with an objective in mind - once that's done, I prefer wrapping it up and starting a new one. Smaller things I deal with in asks (although there is nothing preventing me from turning an ask into a thread when it sparks the good muse food).
So I tend to have a basic, over-arching plot line to follow and I enjoy discussing it offline with my partners so we can ask each other what we are thinking in terms of next steps, if a certain event would be interesting, etc. Believe me, this doesn't take away the surprise - I have been hit by unexpected feelings so many times, I love it.
In addition to that, I struggle with fighting/action sequences (I am just super bad at it), overly descriptive things (a room, someone's clothes, a landscape). It just feels like everything I have ever studied about English goes out of the window and my writing turns super dull, I hate it.
3. is there anything you really enjoy writing?
Emotional stuff - of any kind. I have found out that my preferred writing method is one that mixes a lot of thoughts, emotions and bits of lore together, so although a given reply may not give much in terms of objective actions, it will make room for further emotional or introspective discussions to happen. Characters working out their own feelings and perceptions in relation to certain things is a favorite of mine and my replies are frequently novella-like because Melissa thinks (and feels) so damn much.
I also do like setting the scene (as in giving context for a particular interaction) in starters or asks and expanding on lore. Worldbuilding is another favorite of mine and I often make extensive research into stuff that is only going to be briefly mentioned in a thread. Other than that, I'm also into sharing/including NPCs to make the flow of a thread feel more like a book and crafting these small cameos is super fun.
Oh - I do enjoy writing the usual shippy things (including those on the platonic side of things), particularly with Melissa who has such a strong preference for these themes when compared to other muses. However, without plotting (and since she's an OC), it all feels very soulless if I don't know how to get there in a way that makes sense or seems to be aligned with every character involved.
4. how do you come up with headcanons?
I get inspired by different types of media and a lot of real-life references. For general lore/worldbuilding, I tend to leverage from historical or current events whenever possible, all the while trying to tie these things with the existing canon; for muse-specific verses, anything can spark an idea: a quote in a movie, a song, a certain TV show.
5. do you write in silence or do you play music?
I always have music on - it tends to change depending on the specific verse or muse, but I generally have key songs to fall to while writing.
6. do you plan your replies or wing them?
I plan them as a rule (including asks and memes) - even if it's mostly in my brain and as a general line that I want to follow so I can go from A to B within a few paragraphs. It doesn't always work, though - sometimes I rework the entire idea, or get hijacked by the muse and directed to something else instead.
7. do you enjoy shipping?
Yes - I adore it, and building connections and creating ships is something I really like to do, from discussing it to dropping aesthetic posts to a customized tag. For Melissa in particular, they play a large and significant role as she is someone very much transformed and shaped by love and attachment to people, so my ships for her invariably become a part of much larger and complex verses.
This also goes for platonic dynamics - I like the concept of ships because they allow me to visualize a setting/plot much better and build around it with so many little additions that it feels alive and organic. I start creating timelines and events and it is just so satisfying to see it all coming together.
One thing I have learned with time is that, despite enjoying shipping, I like to be able to talk/connect to the other mun offline (talking about it and plotting is fun!) but also I try to be selective to the point of exclusivity. Because I am so plot-driven, I end up building so much around one variant/portrayal of a given character that I just become partial to it and blind to others - and because I don't want to project my dynamics onto duplicates, I'm multi-single-ship as a result (as in multiple ships, but just a single one per each muse - although exceptions sometimes apply).
8. what's your alias/name?
Mari, because that's how everyone calls me anywhere, anytime. I actually get confused/bothered if my full name is used because it sounds more serious and I just think it's either a stranger calling me or a boss/my mother being angry, haha.
9. age?
Old enough to remember the hype re. having a Blockbuster card around here; these where the premium video rental shops, haha (and nope, I never had one, I only wished I had).
10. birthday?
A late winter/early spring child! As a kid I thought I was born in spring and loved it, but then I realized spring is just later in September and that I was actually a winter kid by a few days, haha. But growing up, winter (winter as I know it, mind you) became my favorite season, so it was all good!
11. favorite color(s)?
Used to be black, silver and blue but these days I'm super fond of turquoise and shades of green? I seemingly cannot settle on a single one forever.
12. favorite song(s)?
I am contractually required to always reply with 'GLAY' and 'Yuuwaku' haha (this song is so damn important in my life). Here's an awesome video to introduce you to my favorite band.
13. last movie you watched?
'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' - one of my top 10 favorite movies, one of my top 5 movie openings, one of my top 3 Fincher movies.
14. last show you watched?
I just finished (re)watching 'Nana', only this time I made it to the last episode. I forgot how emotional this show made me feel and how epic the soundtrack is.
15. last song you listened to?
'Raise Your Glass' by P!nk, a courtesy of my spotify shuffling things haha.
16. favorite food?
I never know what to say here, there is just SO MUCH I love? I think pasta generally ranks very high, followed by pastel and pão de queijo. On the sweet side, I am obsessed with coconut and paçoca.
17. favorite season?
I might have spoiled it here, but it's winter - again, my winter. Brazilian winter. Tropical winter. The winter I have experienced in the Netherlands was depressing, dark and horrible where my nose bled, my skin cracked, I got shocked every time I touched anything metallic and I was just miserable; I love blue skies with sunshine and something below 20 degrees outside.
18. do you have a tumblr best friend?
I do! I mean, I could just say that I have a bunch of really awesome mutuals and I wouldn't be lying; or that I am closer to some than to others, and that would also be true. But it's no secret that @dojimakaichou is just on another level because Dawn and I talk every day to the point I feel weird if we don't; we don't just talk about roleplay, we talk about everything, we have weekly movie dates, we send each other gifts, we record videos for our families and we spent 10 days together last year with plans for more annual encounters. :) She's my bestie (and not just a 'tumblr' bestie) and honestly I only wish we lived closer but we make do!

1. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?:
As I’ve said in past years, I’ve stopped finding it beneficial to predict these things (it just seems like pressure to me) but I suppose about what I would have expected, trending toward more? It was certainly a bit of a surprise that I managed to roust myself for both all of Steggy week and Steggy Secret Santa, that I wrote a bunch of Outlander oneshots plus went in once again for a lengthy chapter fic, and that I got back into weekly drabbles.
2. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?:
Fergus as a character and Fergus/Marsali as a pairing! I was particularly inspired by that one episode and it just took off from there.
3. What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I like a bunch of the drabbles, and I’m extremely proud of Muscle Memory, but I think the pacing is very good on speak low to me, speak love to me (and soon) - it does exactly what it needs to without overstaying its welcome or getting saccharine.
4. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I wrote a lot when I didn’t want to or just felt obligated to do so, and very honestly even though I can vividly remember the terrible, slogging feeling of it and pinpoint the places where I was feeling it especially strongly, I don’t see it reflected so much in the work itself, and I can’t quite tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I also once again started posting a chapterfic without having finished, but I think that I’ve managed to get a good handle on my timing so I don’t catch up with myself or feel too pressured; I did also learn that having someone to share the story with and talk things over about it keeps me from feeling like I need to start posting simply to have it out there for someone else to see.
(Also, not so much a writing risk as a plotting one: having a bit of an eleventh hour twist when things seem to be settling into fluff 😬)
Oh, and randomly making video accounts of my writing, which was weird and only interesting to me 😅
5. Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Put the last touches on Muscle Memory and finish posting, get one or both of the Outlander fics I’ve started working on finished and posted, and make my writing more about what I want and what feels fulfilling to me rather than wanting accolades or interaction.
6. From my past year of writing, what was…
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
I think Measure and Man is actually written really well as well as a very good character study, even if it’s not really J/C or strongly shippy at all. I also have a bit of a fondness for The Real Heroes – it's both outsider POV and kid POV, which I love, plus I just think it’s fun! – which suffers from similar problems, not to mention being narrated by an OC.
Most Fun:
Probably A Surprise Delivery. I think the pacing is pretty off (I spend a long time on the beginning and too little on the middle and end, so you can kinda tell it was written on a deadline), but the premise and some of the touches are quite a good time.
Most Disappointing:
God, I really wanted Best Laid Family Plans to come out better because I’d had the idea in my head for a while, but the execution turned out not great, firstly because it’s hard to plausibly pull off without them seeming stupid, but also because I didn’t spend enough time writing about their family life to make it seem like a worthwhile investment. Plus the tone was supposed to be kinda light and funny, and it got bogged down by some sentiment by the end.
Most Sexy:
Ya girl is back with on the page sex scenes in Muscle Memory! I actually think both the real and imagined fingering is quite sexy even before you get to the reunion sex.
Hardest to Write:
I mean, it’s not surprising (oneshot girl here!) but Muscle Memory. Chapterfic is just so LONG and you have to spend SO MUCH TIME on it!
Tumblr media
Most Unintentionally Telling:
This is a boring answer, but a fic that’s about loving someone even as they might not remember your experiences together? Also I’ve been thinking about my own future with parenthood and that clearly pulled into A Full and Stumbling Heart (plus a bit of Best Laid Family Plans – and what does it say that I also listed that as “most disappointing”?)
Choice Lines:
I struggle with this one because I really like my own writing very much and I don’t want to go wild, so I’ll just say that I’m quite fond of this from Measure and Man:
On those nights he used to turn over and press his nose to Marsali’s neck as she mumbled in her sleep and nestled against him. He would take in the scent of her - flour and grass and work, milk just edging sour - until he could sleep again, but these days even that is too tenuous, too insubstantial for what he needs. Because the memory presses, the thought presses, the very idea of Henri-Christian, of any of his children, ever, ever knowing that smell, knowing the meaning of it such that it can still wake them up lifetimes later—

Want to be featured here? Head to this page and fill in the form!
See what this is about here, or if you’re using the app here.
What’s your fannish ID? EmeraldStorm on AO3 and @emeraldstorms on tumblr. The origin is not that spectacular. Dark Green is my fave colour and "emerald" sounds fancier than "dark green". And "storm" is simply a cool word. xD
What types of fanworks do you create? Mainly I write, but I have started drawing digital images for different fandoms. Sometimes I make shippy edits of old comic panels because I can.
What are your favourite types of fanworks, when you’re not creating? I love reading shippy long fics! Don't get me wrong. I love a one-shot, sweet, smutty or both, too. I love fanart! But losing myself in a long story with a slow burn romance that makes me experience that second hand pining fully - amazing!
What do you like in particular about this fandom? For one, surely the possibilities that come with a secret identity. But I particularly love the relationship between Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson: the love, the loyalty, the fact that they may drift apart, but always gravitate towards each other sooner or later. Whether or not you read this romantically, it's something I truly enjoy.
Do you like participating in fan events? I haven't yet participated in DD events, but in other fandoms I did. I like it a lot because you get to exchange ideas with other fans who love what you love. Plus, it really motivates me to get my stories written.
What about your creating process? The cats aren't really optional for me. As soon as I sit down, there are two of them joining me. Otherwise, it's a mess of dozens of open documents, several messy handwritten post-its and too much coffee and snacks. The noise-level doesn't really matter. I have written thousands of words in a loud cafe on some days and got nothing done in a perfectly quiet room on other days.
Do you interact a lot with other fans? I talk a lot to other DD fans on discord (I'm Calandraa#6358) and I really love sharing the enthusiasm. But, the more the merrier so if someone wants to collab, brainstorm or simply chat, they can message me on tumblr. :)
Is there any particular piece you'd like to showcase for this post? That was a though decision. But I decided for "Because the night belongs to us", https://archiveofourown.org/works/35689132/chapters/88986115 , a Daredevil/Defenders fic (explicit, be warned). I picked it because it has vampires!
Do you have other fandoms you'd like to talk about? I'm active in the Good Omens fandom, semi-active in the TMNT fandom and - while inactive in the fandom - am still a huge Ghostbusters fan. Not sure if there are significant similarities, except that I like them. But yeah, if anyone wants to talk about those, they can hit me up, too. :)
Where can your fanworks be found? My Daredevil and Defender stories can be found on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/EmeraldStorm/works. I share my DD and Marvel drawings on tumblr: https://emeraldstorms.tumblr.com/ tagged emerald's drawings ! Also, I am slooooowly building a neocities page. There is some content there, but a lot is under construction still: https://unproblematicme.neocities.org/
Is there anything else you want to tell us about yourself? I'm not an English native speaker and apparently I tend to sometimes word things in an odd way. So when talking to me, please always assume that I'm just weird, not rude. xD
Thank you, @emeraldstorms !

(Doctor Who) Fanfiction Master List
OneOfThoseThings on AO3
(Updated 11/12/21)
Color Key:
Fic Categories in Pink
Doctor/Donna Pairing Tag in Purple
Other Pairing Tags (Including Poly) in Blue
Platonic / Gen / Open to Interpretation (Doctor x Donna) in Green
Ratings in Yellow
Some of the stories in the series are more or less crucial to the ‘plot,’ so the optional ones are handily marked (Optional) in Orange
Newest Fics tagged [New] in Red
Note: The Doctor is always the Tenth Doctor unless otherwise specified (in this list, but also in life)
Standalone Fics
The Best of Times (Amnesiac Remix)
A mind-wiped Donna runs into Martha and gets some good old fashioned human help realizing her potential all over again. Word has gotten out through the twenty-seven planets she saved though, so there are a few more aliens following her around… including one very specific alien who really shouldn’t be there.
Doctor x Donna
Also Featuring: Martha and Jack
Rated M for the (Optional) last chapter
The Noble Neverwere
A timey-wimey fantasy fic in which the TARDIS finds a way to keep Donna Noble, but has a little trouble with the details like anchoring her in time and space.
Canon-compliant in the sense that it's never been explicitly stated that there isn't a time-fluid echo of a certain ginger companion haunting the TARDIS.
Ten x Donna with light background Twelve x Missy
Also Featuring: Cameos by Ryan, Mickey, and Rory
Rated M for (vaguely) implied sexual content and descriptions of conceptual horror (Rating rounded up for safety)
The Volatile Nature of Binary Stars
A dark(er) AU in which the Master happens upon a mind-wiped Donna and gives her a little boost the rest of the way to full Time Lord status. Then they both return to the TARDIS and an unsuspecting Doctor.
Spoiler: Unlike most fix-its, in this one Donna is Not pleased that she was abandoned and does Not magically just get over that.
Ten x Simm!Master AND Ten x Donna
Rated M for generally dark themes. No sex, just dark. (Rating rounded up for safety)
Universal Lost and Found
A fix-it in which Martha runs across a mind-wiped Donna and helps her (re)claim what the Universe owes her.
Donna x Martha
Note: Doctor x Donna and Doctor x Martha are implied, but this one is a Donna x Martha fic
Rated M for vague sexual content (Rating rounded up for safety)
Polymorphism
The TARDIS pulls her Bad Wolf through to a parallel world where she’s still traveling with the Doctor. And Martha. And Donna. And things are a bit friendlier this time around. (The companion polycule fic you’ve all been waiting for.)
Rose x Martha x Donna x Doctor
Note: This is really Rose x Martha x Donna with the arguably canonically Ace Doctor not left out in the cold. It’s not even a little bit a harem fic.
Rated T with implied sexual content
(Fluff and Humor) One Shots
Interspecies Communication
The Doctor fails to read the room and Donna has to deal with it.
Originally written as part of Interspecies Compatibility, but it actually makes more sense as a cracky standalone.
Open to Interpretation (platonic, shippy, whatever)
Rated T with implied sexual content
Just Act Natural
Donna gets the Doctor to Martha’s wedding. Shenanigans ensue.
There’s an optional sequel, “Compatible Lunacy” that is just straight up shippy.
Open to interpretation (platonic, shippy, whatever)
Rated T
Compatible Lunacy
Optional sequel to “Just Act Natural.”
Split into two parts because “Just Act Natural” could be read as platonic but “Compatible Lunacy” makes the whole thing more shippy
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for implied sexual content (Rating rounded up for safety)
Tension in D Minor
Donna tries to get some alone time with someone with matching human urges. The Doctor takes it a bit personally.
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for implied sexual content (Rating rounded up for safety)
Bathtime in B Sharp
Donna and the Doctor have to take a medicinal bath. Pointless fluff.
Open to Interpretation (platonic, shippy, whatever)
Rated T
Cuddles in C Major
A shag-or-die setup in which the aliens severely overestimate the Doctor’s mating drive and an indignant Donna gets a thorough cuddle.
Open to Interpretation (platonic, shippy, whatever)
Rated T
Arguments That Did Not Go As Planned
Donna tries to train the Doctor, one argument at a time.
Sort of Accidental Doctor x Donna
Rated T
A Bit Close [New 11/11]
In an (only slightly) alternate universe, the Fam has to get used to having Jack on board.
Thirteenth Doctor x Jack
Rated T
(Moody) One Shots
The Beat Between Measures
A missing scene from Revolution of the Daleks, in which the Doctor and Jack get a proper reunion
Thirteenth Doctor x Jack
Rated E because it's basically PWP with Feelings
(It Breaks You Down) A Little Bit More Each Time
Five times Donna Noble died, in escalating degrees of severity. (Not actual death, but y’know.)
Open to Interpretation (platonic, shippy, whatever)
Rated T
Series
Interspecies Compatibility
A series of semi-standalone, loosely-strung-together stories about the Doctor and Donna working through some of the many differences between humans and Time Lords.
This series tries not to actively contradict major canonical events. But a lot of liberties are taken around that.
Biological Specificity
A detailed lesson in Time Lord biology
Can be read as platonic, but only if one doesn’t keep reading this series
Not really shippy (on its own)
Rated T with vague discussions of mating practices (Could be G, but I'm not tagging my fics G FFS)
Acclimatization
Hard to call this one entirely platonic, but could be if one ignored alien cultural implications
Not really shippy (on its own)
Rated T with the alien equivalent of vaguely implied sexual content (that doesn't line up with the human version at all)
Ecological Fitting
Probably not platonic unless you’re using an interesting definition of platonic
Doctor x Donna
Rated T with vaguely implied sexual content
Symbiosis
Pretty solidly outside the boundaries of platonic here
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for implied sexual content
Contact High (Optional)
A fun day out
Not really shippy (on its own)
Rated T
Spandrel (Optional)
A casual day in
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for implied sexual content
Synesthesia
This is where this goofy series starts to take a real turn toward shippy
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for implied sexual content
Atavism
This is where the ratings should probably tick up
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for vague sexual content
Exaptation (Optional)
An optional morning after
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for vague sexual content
Coevolution
The obligatory Midnight fic
Doctor x Donna
Rated M for implied sexual content and dark themes
Survival Without Recovery
The fix and official end
Not really shippy (on its own)
Rated T
Lazarus Taxon (Optional)
An optional epilogue with a slightly less happy-go-lucky tone
Also Featuring: Cameos by Eleven, Twelve and finally Thirteen
Not really shippy (on its own)
Rated T
Nice Things; Good Things
A blatant canon divergence from Journey’s End where Donna just lets the metacrisis Doctor and Rose right back onto the TARDIS and then they all just go back to traveling together. Pretty soon after that, Jack gets added in and then it’s just the whole team enjoying themselves for once instead of having just endless tragedy for the sake of character building.
As the series goes on, it gets more and more polyamorous, but it’s set up so that each fic can be an acceptable stopping point so that anyone who isn’t on board can just hop off whenever they like and not have to deal with a bunch of unresolved cliffhangers.
Individual fics are carefully tagged (which makes for a hilariously long list of tags for the series, in case anyone is wondering.)
It Has Been 0 Days Since the Last Incident
The most standalone of all the fics in this series. Just Ten, Tentoo, Donna and Rose traveling in the TARDIS.
Doctor x Donna and background Tentoo x Rose
Rated T with implied sexual content
Morning Cuddles (Optional Ficlet)
Originally part of “Nice Things; Good Things” but it can also be read as a little standalone cuddle ficlet.
Doctor x Donna
Rated T with implied sexual situations
A New Path (Optional backstory for Jack getting added)
Jack officially joins the dream team
Doctor x Donna
Background Tentoo x Rose (leading to Tentoo x Rose x Jack)
Rated T with vaguely referenced sexual content
A Series of Perfectly Reasonable Misunderstandings
Confusing times with two Doctors in the mix now. (Starting down the poly path.)
Doctor x Donna
Tentoo x Rose x Jack
Rated M for frisky times, with chapters marked appropriately
Indisputably Well-Laid Plans
The Doctor and Donna court the other three. It goes great.
Doctor x Donna x Jack
Background Tentoo x Rose x Jack
A little light Tencest (as a treat)
Hints at pretty much every combination of these 5
Rated E for the second half of the fic, with chapters marked appropriately
Proper Communication
Rose and Donna get to know each other better without any distractions.
Donna x Rose
Rated E with chapters marked appropriately
All Together Now
With all the individual connections on board, all that's left is for the Doctor to ask Rose. Then it's a full-blown polycule.
Ten x Tentoo x Donna x Rose x Jack
Too many subsets of that to bother writing out— just call it shamelessly poly
Rated E with chapters marked appropriately
Modern Arts (and Crafts) (Optional PWP)
Just a full stop poly PWP
Ten x Tentoo x Donna x Rose x Jack
Rated E and it deserves it
Standard Courtship Rituals
10 ficlet-style dates
All 10 pairing subsets of Ten x Tentoo x Donna x Rose x Jack
Rated M for implied sexual content
Tied Game (Optional PWP)
Donna and Rose have a plan. Jack is involved.
Donna x Rose x Jack (with Ten x Tentoo x Donna x Rose x Jack in the background)
Rated E
Sweet Talk, Sweethearts (Optional PWP) [New 10/29]
The Doctor tries asking Donna for a little encouragement, like she gives the other humans. The metacrisis Doctor makes the request more convincingly (for both of them).
Ten x Donna x Tentoo
Rated E
Things That Catch
A Doctor/Donna series exploring the consequences (good, bad, and bizarre) of getting too close.
That Which Lingers Just Beneath
The Doctor gets a fever.
Doctor x Donna (not shippy on its own but heading that way)
Rated T
The Distance Between Could and Should
Having grown suspicious of relying on the TARDIS for translating, Donna asks for Gallifreyan lessons. The Doctor is not hard to convince.
Doctor x Donna (not aggressively shippy but getting there)
Rated T
A Clarity Found Only in Madness
The Doctor has nightmares. Donna tries to help.
Doctor x Donna
Rated T
For Which There Are No Words (Optional Kinktober Fun)
The Doctor and Donna have a proper relationship. Well. A relationship.
Doctor x Donna
Rated E (for safety)
To Fracture Like None Other
Donna gets a bit too casual with the Gallifreyan and is mistaken for the Doctor. Perhaps unsurprisingly, being mistaken for the last Time Lord in existence does not make for a fun day out.
Doctor x Donna
Rated T
A Dream Unfinished
Donna is unmade and left to her own devices. But her experiences may have already changed her more than anyone could have anticipated.
A/N: This is the point where this series turns into a lowkey rewrite.
Doctor x Donna (implied)
Rated T
An Uneven Stitch for An Uneven Scar
Donna returns to the TARDIS, but everything is different. After the metacrisis, she’s something new. Something strange. And all she knows for sure is that the Doctor can’t be trusted.
Doctor x Donna (but not in a cute way)
Rated M (for implied sexual content)
The Rift Immeasurable [New 10/16]
The Doctor makes an open offer for whatever might help. Donna takes him up on it in a way that he never expected.
Alternatively: Donna takes a gamble. The Doctor is not consulted on this gamble.
Doctor x Donna
Also Featuring: Guest Appearance by The Master
Rated M (with implied sexual content)
Collaborations
Aurous and Auriferous (For the DW HopeZine prompt “Plastered in Gold”)
A collaboration with the insanely talented @denzikken and @fritzmetzger
Aurous is a Journey’s End fix-it in which the metacrisis Doctor has to save the Time Lord from himself (Not explicitly shippy, Rated T)
Auriferous is an optional (significantly less “Gen”) sequel for people who think Gen Fixits are all well and good, but want a little Tencest to round it out. (Rated M for implied sexual content)
Ten x Tentoo (mildly implied in Aurous, actively happening in Auriferous) Also some light background Donna x Rose (for flavor)
The Wizard (For the DW HopeZine Big Bang)
A Very Official Collaboration with the mad geniuses @denzikken and @fritzmetzger (Featuring So Much Amazing Art!)
Donna gets an alien pet. The Doctor does not approve. (The Doctor also does not get a vote.)
Open to Interpretation (platonic, shippy, whatever)
Rated T
Promise You Won't Do It Again
A super unofficial collaboration with @theoreticalabsurdity, @echo84, @krebkrebkreb and @picnokinesis because the Jack x Thirteen crew is just Good at peer pressure
A series of (mostly fake) proposals
Thirteen x Jack
Rated T
Special thanks to anyone who’s read, given kudos, and/or commented on anything I’ve put together! Lots of love to the whole fandom!

More non-Ichigo character thoughts. This time, Rukia.
Sleving the ones who are actually permanently children for whatever reason completely unexplained at least before the novels, haven’t been following the novels. Like the Digimon Adventure universe movies, the only other cartoon I like on its own merit and not because it’s tied to my cartoon-loving dad who died of racially motivated fetishistic abuse against Asians, the same which most fandom exhibits, the Bleach novels seem like they’re mostly there to justify the poor rush job that the epilogue was. Again, same as the Adventure epilogue. Just, the literal twelve-year old fans decided to hop on the family computer and type up some fix-it fic to post on their Geocities rather than the terrible-twos-esque temper tantrums we saw from some Bleach fans.
Anyway, so, you know, there was definitely a deep love between Renji and Rukia that appeared when Renji was fighting Ichigo, though not in the early stuff, because seat-of-pants writing. Been there, and I think anyone who’s written fic has.
However, not only do none of their interactions ever read as romantic, they don’t read as the same maturity level except for the early jail taunting bit.
Renji reads like a lot of his peers, except that his childhood as a street urchin haunts him especially hard.
Remember episode one? The first thing Rukia gets mad about ends with her claiming she’s ten times Ichigo’s age. When she binds him, she takes time to draw on his face before going to do her duty.
I just mentioned the whole problem of characters’ trajectories veering wildly onto a completely different road. Shoot, look at early Gin and end Gin. (Leaving aside early Orihime who wants to be a cyborg and wants to fight to protect Tatuki like Tatuki always protected her, and her veering into Nurse Nancy In Distress Orihime, which compounds sexism because yes, the work is sexist and all sorts of queerphobic. I really would’ve loved to see a follow-up on when she decides to destroy the Hogyoku, honestly)
However, Rukia… never really moves past or gets veered off the course of her early characterisation. Even her very sweet scene with Orihime in the early Arrancar arc—it frankly read *way* more like possibly shippy peer content between them.
There are totally adults that size—I’ve known white, black, and non-white European cis men under four foot nine and Rukia’s height and build is not at all uncommon for E/SE Asian women. Her and Momo both look like just short women, not the same as, say, Hiyori or Tousirou, who are clearly just perma-kids. The average Japanese woman is five foot two/157 or 158 cm, but that height and build is not uncommon. (And though mine was racially motivated because I’m Asian enough, furthermore, Japanese enough, Momo seriously needs more love—takes a DV survivor to know a DV survivor. Clearly Aizen has groomed probably even her sense of self out of her, and neither canon nor fandom is particularly kind to her. There is not much explicit about what went on between them, but I honestly see no other possible reading for her)
Just…Rukia doesn’t ever end up reading like someone who would make a good parent. Yes, the parents of all Bleach teens are absolutely dysfunctional—the adults in positions of authority over them in Karakura all are somehow. However, what little we see in the new SJ Bleach chapter, which I actually bought at my local Japanese language bookstore, so I’m going off the original in my native language, thankfully, they’re not just repeating the dysfunction. (Though I’m very curious why there does seem to be formal kinship terms despite the fact that Kubo unimaginatively rolled with current Japanese law—thank the LDP, America’s favourite—and Rukia married out instead of Renji marrying in, as evidenced by their name plaque at their door. Clearly, there is some Kuchiki influence in their family, though… scratching my head)
It’s another undeveloped, inexplicable thing, just, I mean, while the read I got was Orihime seeing Ichigo as her hero when abuse is on all sides, totally reasonable, and Ichigo seeing Nurse Nancy in Distress Orihime as a *responsibility,* and that is just never the underpinnings of a healthy relationship. I don’t even care if you’re talking a D/s relationship, you don’t start off on that foot and expect to last, at least there was *some something* going on?
Renji and Rukia just don’t read romantic, and furthermore, Rukia just doesn’t read mature enough to be a mother at all. Rukia looks like she could be in her twenties, but she acts like a teenager throughout. Any time she’s not in line of duty mode, she just acts like Ichigo’s age. So that development was absolutely a curveball.
(And “people can be born as ghosts” is just a whole another issue and posts. Artificial bodies being capable of reproduction resulting in living children? OK. Ghosts having ghost babies…? Stretching a little too far for my taste)

Rally’s Scribbles in the Work
So after that lovely anon blew my mind away with their kind words and wonderful support, and because I keep telling you guys about my writing plans without actually giving you even a teensy little detail, I have decided to stop being coy and actually likely get your hopes up a bit by dilvulging small details and bits of plots of what is currently going on in my G-Drive.
This will be a brief recount of what I have currently baking in the AoMomo oven, so let’s dive right into it! Please note that the numbers are in no particular order - I just keep revisiting each of these stories and writing a bit more to them whenever I feel like it. So there’s no ranking and no importance, just a number to keep proper count.
1. “Knight of Renown” Dragons and Knighthood AU, based on that one AoMomo pic with Momo ithe Knight and Dragon Aomine that I reblogged a while back and I actually let me imagination go a bit too much in the tags. I ended up actually rather enjoying the premise I set up in the tags so I actually started writing that one out!  Completion rate at about: 5%? I’d say? Less? :D
2. AoMomo Music AU - a dearly beloved project that I am pouring a lot of love and attentioin to. That’s why it’s coming along super slow. It’s been in the making since November and I chewed it and mulled through it so thoroughly that I’ve grinded to a halt with it. Intending for there to be 2 chapters, and I am at about 25-30% of chapter 1 currently ready currently. At the pace I’m going, it might be another full year before you actually get to see this bad boy up, but when you do, I’m sure you’ll see all the care and effort that went into making it perfect. Honestly, no joke here, I am intending for this to be one of my rare masterpieces in this tag. So I’m not gonna rush it!
3. AoMomo Car Accident AU where Daiki barely manages to save Satsuki from being run over by a hit-and-run and ends up being the one run over instead. This was my first piece of writing after coming back to AoMomo last summer and yet completion rate is a sad thing. I want it to be flawless, a perfectly agonizing, thrilling type of torturous read that gives you a great sense of relief by the end of it. Needless to say, the clusterfuck of negative feelings is a bit difficult to hold onto for a prolonged period of time and the work is coming along slowly. Planned at about 5 chapters, I have 2 complete ones and the 3rd one is at about ... 30%? Hopefully before this year’s whumptober, we’ll have a finished piece!
4. AoMomo bond character study, which went in a direction I did NOT expect nor intend. It was suppsoed to be an idea that you will see also listed below. But I started this one from their early childhood and somehow, instead of focusing on the kids and their bond and their weird interactions with each other and their first moments of realizing they are of opposite genders, it turned into something much too fun to let go of and the ideas for scenes just kept piling. It’s going to be a long one, very explorative and very in-depth character study on the bond between these two and how it changed over the years, and their first encounters with their sexuality inbetween (because that was really the main idea that I started with... xDDD;;;) Currently at 1 chapter complete, chapter 2 somewhere around 50-60% completion, and at least 6-7 chapters to come after that, soooo.... :’DDDD YEAH. THIS ONE AIN’T SEEING THE LIGHT OF DAY ANYTIME SOON.
5. AoMomo deciding to practice stuff on each other, because I am a sucker for this trope.THIS will be what the idea under previous number 4 was SUPPOSED to be like, but it instead spun out of control. So this one, under number 5, is going to be the smutty, idiots bumbling through physicality to discover that they actually have serious feelings for each other kind of piece. Chapters are planned at about at least 6-7 or so, but not my usual monstrocities! :D First we start with practice kissing, and we move our way up from there!
6. “The Evil of Humanity” AU - a dystopian futuristic kinda mecha AU, sort of an amalgamation of some of my favourite anime in the genre - a bit of NGE, a bit of Gurren-Lagann, a lot of Darling in the Franxx rewrite and improvement, in distinctly AoMomo colors. I poured a lot of thought and love into initial outline of main moments for this one, and I really hope to make it an epic, thrilling action/adventure with a big dash of romance kind of read! Chapters currently not even planned properly, because I need to sit down and consider this seriously. It will definitely be more than 10-15 though, and they will be my usual chapter lengths so.... likely no time soon. :D
7. Aomine Fanclub - I got a plot bunny some time ago and I shared it here and my friends were spurring me on with it, so I started trying it out a little more. I’ve written out like... maybe 30% of this one as well, but need to re-read and reconceptualize to get it back on track. The issue with this one is that I’m not really sure where I want to take it, thus it’s on the back burner at the moment.
8. KagaKuro AoMomo double-date kind of story, where Aomine is asking some curious questions of Taiga about going to America and pondering if any of his immediate friends know what Satsuki wants to do with her life. I’m really invested in this one but haven’t started properly writing it out yet beyond just sketching out the idea so I don’t forget it. (I’d say 1% complete here.) Really looking forward to using the idea of Kagami being super impressed with AoMomo perfect sync when playing as a team in arcade games!
9.Laws of Attraction Chapter 2 - You might be surprised at this, but I’m actually super invested in this one. Likely the reason why I am delaying so much working on it - I feel like all my great scene ideas are just too chaotic and I have a hard time starting the chapter flowing properly. I had like 4-5 false starts already and I’m feeling a bit skittish with picking it up. But I have such AMAZING concepts on where to take it after it revvs up the engine, so... Maybe sometime this year! Completion rate: 0% written, but at least about 30% ideas built up for the installment!
10. AoMomo college rooming together story - sort of an expansion on my fill for one of the prompts way back those years ago in AoMomo week. I really dig the concept and the trope of sharing spaces with someone you consider nothing more than a friend and then gradually learning to appreciate each other for something so much more. I am definitely doing this one some day, but not anytime soon, likely.
11. A random idea bit me the other day (read: a month ago) and I actually wrote out like... maybe 25% of it already as well. A random comment from Wakamatsu miffs Satsuki but then she realizes why he’s asking dumb questions and she comes to realize that something is wrong with the equation: either Dai-chan likes someone really close to them and she hasn’t realized, which is unlikely, or Dai-chan likes HER and is super blase about it in a way that betrays his feelings not at all, which is even more unlikely. Being a curious  individual, she sets out to find which it is! Some hilarity should ensue but mostly just some mess-with-Dai-chan fun!
12. Touou summer training camp at the sea - progress is practically 0, I wanted to write a summery piece and set my mind on this, but nothing beyond has come to me, so I’m not forcing it.
13. AoMomo cultural festival fic in second year of high school (meaning something approx end of Oct -> beginning of Nov.) with Daiki being in a distinctly Haruhu Suzumiya role at that festival (has anyone even seen this anime? I adored that episode to freaking bits, man, it’s engraved upon my soul) and singing Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” and one more song just like Haruhi did. And Satsuki just beholding the phenomenon he becomes in no time flat while he lays bare his passion for life for all the student body to see. Shippiness will happen in private afterwards!
14. You Can Leave Your Hat On Chapter 2 - Probably like 2-3 years ago while I was still in the damn woodwork and wrestling with real life and adulting being crap, I remembered this AU premise and I got super hyped on the idea of Club Owner Dai-chan being a flirt with innocent Satsuki who got dragged to his joined and fell in love at first sight with his shenanigans. I’ve already played around for like 7k words with the second chapter of this but I’m still not where I want to be at, so it will take a while longer to flesh it out.
15. Idol Worship - a story that I promised my mate aricana some 6 years ago the premise for which I am super hyped for but not quite engaging with it yet. The idea was that Momoi finally starts gettiing the dates she has been pesting Kuroko for for years, and Daiki feeling terrible about beholding that, whilst Kise is being pestered by Horikita Mai for a date and instead ditches her with Daiki because he knows his former Teikou classmate is a huge fan of her. Mai-chan isn’t particularly happy but somehow ends up enjoying her time with Daiki and starts considering actually pursuing him instead of Kise when she sees what an interesting soul he is, with the torch that he’s carrying for some girl in his life he doesn’t really talk about but is evident from the little things he drops off as hits. AoMomo shenanigans will start to ensue properly when Satsuki realizes that Daiki is actually having a close female friend who is not her but is Horikita Mai instead, Dai-chan’s perfect woman, practically. She doesn’t take well to the news and has to grapple with why that is! And what to do with these newfound frustrating emotions!
16. Obstruction of Justice Chapter 3 - MAYBE SOME DAY, I WILL GET TO WRITING THIS. Last summer I inteded to do just that but instead, Wild Side of Justice was born. And it became a spin off of sorts on its own. ORZ. I WILL FINISH THIS SOME DAY, I do have some plans for it and I do have the desire to pursue them. I just need to be in the right headspace for it ahsjkfhkjaf
17. A PWP story of Kagami arriving early for a practice match at Touou and somehow walking in on AoMomo getting busy with each other in very unexpected and explicit ways that Kagami did not see headed his way. Because, we need more PWP in this fandom, honestly.
18. And since we DO need more PWP, recently when checking the 30 lemons community on LJ (shut up, I’m not ancient, YOU’RE ANCIENT) I was wondering how exactly a smut plot around the “Taken by the Faceless Stranger” could work for Aomomo and I came up with this Masquerade ball that they end up both attending because of their friends and meeting each other and hitting off fantastically just chatting the night and then banging in a niche in the long castle-like premise of the ball. :’DDDD Cuz it’s me and if I don’t have something like that in the works, you know i’m likely sick.
ALL OF THESE I am planning on eventually finishing one day. ONE DAY!
For now they are in various states of completion and in various stages of being cared for and improved on with more ideas added and fleshed out.
I am not joking when I say I am very invested in this fandom. I just have difficulty getting to writing out these ideas when I spend like 60% of my free time playing my mobile games. :D
So there you have it. I didn’t want to say anything about these because 1) I don’t want to get your hopes up. You Can Leave Your Hat On 2, for one, has been in the making for 3 years, very on-again-off-again kind of way, and I just... can’t do that to you guys. I have decided against posting any incomplete fics so I don’t torture you guys and my muse doesn’t abandom me forever for them. So when something is complete, it gets posted promptly for your viewing pleasure!
And 2) If I divulge too much of the story, I feel like my hype of it may disappear completely. Ehh, my muse is a willful creature, what can I tell you...
So let’s hope at least SOME of these get to see the light of day soon!

An Analysis on this Chap 337 moment
Bokuaka fans have the best lines (“We are the protagonist”, “120%”, “Like a star”), but I find this line very underrated and would like to promote its supremacy.
Tumblr media
“It’s not impossible, it’s just hard.”
I mean just look at their faces, look how happy Bokuto is delivering that line and how SOFT Akaashi is in response.
Remember that Bokuto made Akaashi smile LIKE THAT just after he was crying. One of the main themes of this chapter was Akaashi’s stoic expressions (highlighted in how he reacts to Bokuto’s “Your tosses are the best” before vs after), so Furudate really wanted to put emphasis on Akaashi’s feelings.
Unlike other iconic lines, this is directly delivered by Bokuto/spoken to Akaashi (previous lines have been thoughts/feelings). And with such an iconic moment, you just know that this is something both will remember and take with them from this tournament.
Remember that Bokuto says this in rebuttal of Akaashi’s doubts and negativity. The team is actually shook that Bokuto managed to win an argument against Akaashi’s overthinking (and the team knows he’s prone to this, so they have probably tried and failed to talk him out of it before).
This is significant because Akaashi’s overthinking had caused him much grief during the match, even though this is beneficial at times, it’s good that Bokuto’s positivity can calm him down when it gets too much.
The whole Fukurodani team is literally eavesdropping during this moment, they know this is shippy.
Tumblr media
And I just find it sweet that Bokuto has given much thought into rebutting Akaashi’s insecurities, which means that he was thinking about this even after the match- he was already anticipating how Akaashi would react to everything that happened. This gives so much insight to their dynamic; I find Bokuto so gentle here and it shows that they are accustomed to each other’s moods.
What happens before this is also Akaashi releasing his anxieties on Bokuto’s performance, he brings up his mood swings even though this didn’t happen during the match; this is how you know Akaashi worries are rooted beyond the current game.
And all this is reassured by Bokuto being himself, acknowledging what he needs to work on and promising that it’ll be alright despite the challenges.
I need to note how non-toxic this interaction is. No one teases Akaashi for crying, or calls Bokuto moody or irresponsible for his previous shortcomings. Bokuto takes Akaashi’s feelings very seriously, so in return, he gives a thoughtful answer.
The results of this conversation are evident in the timeskip, particularly with how Bokuto manages his moods AND how we see Akaashi smiling all the time. Like Akaashi is now able to watch Bokuto play without worrying, that’s growth.
Seriously, timeskip bokuaka is so happy.
Now consider this dynamic in a future bokuaka relationship
Bokuto feeling overwhelmed playing in a new team after graduation. Training with professionals is hard and he’s dealing with his moods on his own. Akaashi reassuring him through the phone, it may be hard but it’s not impossible for you.
Akaashi overthinking the night before he submits his writings to a literature magazine. He knows that it is unlikely it’ll get accepted and he has half a mind to not submit at all. Bokuto, pouting, tells him that, it’s only impossible if he doesn’t try.
The line being used as comfort when they decide to make their relationship public.
The line being used as Bokuto goes through losses, Akaashi fails to meet deadlines, and at whatever the world throws at them through adulthood.
Basically, it’s this moment that solidified bokuaka supremacy because it showed that they could have honest conversations about their feelings and read one another. It’s so refreshing to see Bokuto take care of Akaashi, and to have Akaashi smile and move forward after that emotional episode. I love seeing healthy dynamics. Akaashi gets Bokuto out of his moods by knowing the little things he finds important, Bokuto prevents Akaashi’s anxiety through positive and mindful statements.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the scene ends like this. Bokuto walking away, sure that Akaashi and the team will follow. It’s not just the loneliness on court he’s conquered, but the feeling of being understood- highs and lows and all.

Note
13, 16, and 25 for the author ask :D
3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
Whatever way it happens! If I wrote everything chronologically, you’d never get anything from me, especially not any shippy nonsense.
If I’m writing a multi-chapter fic, I’ll often have detailed outlines and notes, maybe a few scene drafts in a file; some get used, some don’t, but it more or less gets written in order, with the drafts and notes there to hold onto ideas I have so they aren’t lost.
16) are there any characters who haunt you?
Seems I answered this one last time this prompt came around and the answer hasn’t really changed:
Hilel, an Assamite I played in a LARP many years back. Did some writing for her, and had to guide story as a staff narrator, during game and between sessions. Old school World of Darkness…tried, but had some serious representational issues, and my own youth and ignorance at the time didn’t help; this was late 90s and early 00s. I wish I could take that one back; I can’t even say it was a good learning experience like my initial LARP character Lynell Marsden, who I played and wrote about for a few years as a newbie RPer to where now my usual internet handle is based on her name. So she continues to “haunt” me too in a way, by choice.
Rhiswyn, my shadow priest in WoW, as I do think I mucked up some characterization bits that are well outside my usual wheelhouse or personality and life experiences. I don’t think I did Rhis justice, though I still like quite a few of the stories I wrote for her, by myself and in collaboration with others. There’s one series of hers that’s on the short list of fics I would like to revise and post to Ao3 someday.
So mostly characters where I screwed up writing/roleplaying about something I’m not, and learned better for the future in terms of How to Research and also What Stories Should I Tell and Which Should I Leave Alone, though it took me some time in Hilel’s case to realize how bad I was back then.
25) copy/paste a few sentences or a short paragraph that you’re particularly proud of
From the 2019 FFXIV Write, an extra credit entry near the end, “Trust II” is a very rare Second Person Present Tense PoV writing, about Lyna’s reactions to the arrival of the Warrior of Darkness. I’m still rather fond of this one in its entirety.
“Lyna…”
“Yes?” Pause, look back at him. Wonder again when he had become so small, when he once seemed to tower as tall as the crystal spire itself.
“Do you trust me?”
What an odd question. “Of course.” He is not speaking as Lord to Captain. “I know there is much you do not–cannot tell me. I know there must be reasons.” Ask the question you want the answer to. The moment may not come again. “Do you trust me?”
Caught him off guard. That happens more often than it used to. He smiles, though, and pulls back his hood–not the Exarch, but Grandfather, with his ruby eyes and white-streaked hair. “With my life, and the lives of our people,” he replies. “Which is why I ask you to keep these secrets for me a little longer–and know that the ones I keep from you are for good reason, my dear.”
Take a breath. Nod. “Very well then.” Turn to go, but pause again. “…One more question, my lord.”
“Of course, Captain.” He replaces his hood.
“Will any more of your countrymen be arriving in the next year or so?”
He laughs, shakes his head. “No, Captain, I believe this is the last we shall see–and all we need.”
The knowledge that Norvrandt may not have another year hangs heavy between you, unsaid.

35 Questions for Fanfiction Writers
well since dearest @bachint asked, here goes nothing!
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
well if no downplaying’s allowed i guess i’d give it a 3/5? some mistakes since i’m not a native plus i”m still working on getting my english style better! i like what i come up with all the same, i’ve improved a lot these past two years, and my grammar isn’t that bad i guess?
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
to do what developers didn’t do in the first place to make good use of my imagination, to cope with the fact that some characters don’t exist and i will never follow another one of their adventures, to forget about a boring real life...
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
my writing doesn’t stand out lmaooo but i guess i’m always trying to focus on the character’s psychology, struggles and all that, so if someone likes my work, it’s ‘original’ bc it’s usually quite different from the usual stories where there are a lot of dialogues and interactions.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
i’ve been inspired a lot by @welcometogressenheller (i wish i could do as well as she does.....), @aceklaviergavin (kudos to you even if you never see that post and you probably don’t know who i am), and some others whose name i forgot (sorry!)
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
i didn’t write much but i guess that my latest fics are really nice (There’s No Light In You Anymore, and the whole Faith series on AO3). also my big project “Now That You’re Gone”, i’m glad i’ve been able to write that much for it and i intend on continuing as soon as i find the motivation!
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?
pain, struggles and all that comes with it as long as it’s in the character’s mind, because beware here you step in a dark space
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
ordinary scenes of life? i always find my writing lacking as soon as i step out of my comfort zone, i’m all for rambling and never-ending pain
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
desmond/descole surely
9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?
all the good guys (and dimitri allen because i’d love writing about him but i’m? just unable to?)
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
that may come as a surprise! angst!
11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
a mix of question 8 and 10 and you’ve got your answer
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
professor layton and the shattering secrets!!! i’m so happy of what this AU will look like when i’ll be done writing the following chapters, at first it probably looks annoying but heck i wanna promise anyone who’s reading it that the plot twists are gonna be worth it even though the overall background isn’t that original because i’ve mixed up different elements from other games (aaaand we’re back in our oh-so-amazing comfort zone that covers up a massive lack of imagination)
13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
ummm? the vampire diaries maybe? back when i was 10 or 11 lol
14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
hands up... pROFESsoR LayTON
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
i didn’t write for many fandoms but back in my younger days i used to do self-insert fics with the vampire diaries cast and it was so odd and i wish i hadn’t just confessed that on my tumblr blog
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
nothing that comes to mind
17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
dunno either
18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?
PL and the shattering secrets! huge canon divergence and one heck of an AU (also its original version is much worse, my mind was going crazy when i was 15)
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
i love reading AUs, writing some requires solid imagination which i have not, but honestly i don’t really mind
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
gen
21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
desmond sycamore x his wife / randall ascot x hershel layton (be it romantic or platonic) / randall ascot x basically anyone from the MM i guess though i didn’t write anything about that yet (it’s about to change guys)
22. Do you listen to anything while you write?
yea i can’t write without listening to music - any playlist does the trick as long as i like what i’m listening to but usually i listen to sad soundtracks, or i’m inspired by some random lyrics
23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
i’d go with challenges bc my horrible ass has very few ideas but i usually come up with independent ideas
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
one shots!
25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
i don’t remember ;_;
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
i’ve got one OS in mind with randall/layton but i don’t want to be the talk of the town because it’s probably going to be awful? also any other fic including the PL3 crew
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
@welcometogressenheller telling me she believed i was a native!!! i struggle so much trying to improve my writing style in english and i have a lot of insecurities so it was so heartwarming and incredible to read...
also basically any other comment where people tell me they like what i write. i love that writers feel the need to take some time reviewing my works bc i need constant validation
28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?
well i’ve never really received ‘harsh’ criticism or anything, save for some very rare remarks on my grammar so i guess i don’t know? at first it’s always sad to see that what i’ve done isn’t perfect but i guess it’s impossible to be perfect so i’m really happy that people take some time to underline what looks wrong to them
29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
currently trying to with shattering secrets and it’s actually a great way to improve!
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
MERCILESS ANGST
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
i wish i could but it would perhaps be a huge spoiler so i don’t wanna say much about them...
i have 1) annabell sycamore, des’s wife, whose personality fits very much mine. she’s a playwright, spends lot of her time writing and acting in front of des AND WITH des. also she’s a very realistic person and some people usually tell her that she’s being too pessimistic
2) aurelia from the shattering secrets and on her i really cannot say much... if anyone’s read this far it would be so nice if you could give SS a shot by the way!!
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
desmond sometimes finds happiness but it’s always taken from him
(isn’t that a summary for everything i’ve ever written?)
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
i don’t translate my works from my original language to english, i write straight in english. i spend a lot of time making sure i haven’t done any grammatical mistakes, checking the definition and the use of some words i’m not sure about, and sometimes it’s quite a pain and it can be also very discouraging bc i end up believing what i write comes from a random internet dictionary while deep down i know it’s not true but hey what can i say. huge insecurities laid bare here.
(if any reader of mine’s reading this, i apologize)
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
(beware: spoilers for the whole prequel trilogy!!!)
“Hershel Layton was puzzled. A funny emotion to feel for someone who loved puzzles that much, but nothing could ever describe better the way he’d felt for hours now, hours that seemed like ages.So much did happen in the span of a few hours.
First he’d learned his parents could be targeted by Targent, then Aurora had made it clear that she didn’t want to live anymore, all so she could protect them. Then Desmond—no, Descole—had taken the key from her hands, and revealed himself as the dangerous scientist Layton knew him to be.
Then they’d fought. Despair was filling the air, though Hershel didn’t understand what Descole meant when he cried that the Azran legacy was all he had to live for.
And as if there hadn’t been enough betrayals as it was, Emmy was soon to follow. Luke had been abducted. He’d had no other choice than siding with Descole to prevent Bronev from unleashing doom on Earth. Misery didn’t seem to end.
Just when he’d thought he’d finally be able to change things, Descole had been ready to sacrifice himself to save Luke. And then…
Then everything just collapsed.
He held his agonizing brother in his arms; the one who’d wanted so hard to take him down only a few hours back was now confessing, fearing death was on the way.“
[...]
from ‘Six Times Hershel Layton Remembered, Plus The One Time He Didn’t’
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
oops i haven’t got anything more to say but thank you for reading? perhaps?

35 Q’s for Fanfic Writers
From this post
I’m having a shitty, rude alter-y, crap night so I’m just going to answer all of these to distract myself and focus and to not bother anybody just making my own post and putting it under the cut btw, notice to anyone not aware: since I’m moving I won’t likely be updating anything until I’m done doing so.
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing?  (No downplaying yourself!) 3/5? Could use more editing and description and can be weirdly paced.
2. Why do you write fanfiction? Because it’s better than focusing on pain 24/7.
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works? I don’t seem to have a specific narrative voice that people recognize but I’m pretty proud of mostly organic dialogue.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you? as a rule i never look up to anybody for inspiration but there’s some stuff in my ao3 bookmarks I fawn over.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of? Right now, none of them. It changes normally, anyway. If get too proud then I’d get my ass kicked by RSD if someone didn’t like it so it’s safer this way
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily? Dialogue.
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most? Organic description, poetic language kind of stuff. I can paint a scene but I’m not so great with bring out out a feeling with description alone.
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write? Janus and Virgil are probably tied. They both have things I struggle with but I don’t have to go back and do much adjusting of language and tone with them. Though admittedly my Virgil is signifigantly more foul-mouthed than canon and I tend to prefer pre-AA feral asshole Virgil.
9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write? Patton. I write him the least, so people can probably tell. I love Patton, I really do, but it’s so hard to keep away from fanon Patton.
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for? Angst w/ H/C obviously. Or if you’re talking about regular book genres, Fantasy. I fucking love fantasy world building.
11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most? Trauma. I blame Daeram. As if Ayri isn’t a giant Angst Demon.
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about. Slopes. I’m really into it. I’ve got three one shots running right now. Patrons can read the first part of the unnamed cat remus one, there’s also a coffeeshop au tropey nonsense one like eglantine & lycoris, but Slopes is addiction angst. Mmmmm. Virgil is addicted to coke and alcohol and will listening to his friends even be in time? Who knows, especially not me, but there’s already over 30k.
13. First fandom you ever wrote for? InuYasha. Or was it Harry Potter? Or shit, The Blue Sword? Fuck, I’ve been writing for a long time, I really have no idea.
14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for? Sanders Sides. The characters are the perfect dynamic for writing since they exist in balance of each other and the popular, easy to project on archetypes featured are incredibly fun to do basically any scenario with.
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for? Weird storywise? Kingdom Hearts? I can’t even follow the plot anymore. Weird Fandomwise? Sanders Sides. Its simultainiously the fluffiest and angstiest nonsense at the same time.
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)? Vampires. Gay ones. Gay Vampires. I also love calm tol and angy smol.
17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for. Any tropes that normalize incredibly toxic behaviour or tropes that are inherantly ableist, but I can’t think of any.
18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written? Incorrigible continues to be complete nonsense.
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between? AUs. I mean closest I even have is canon-divergence other than a single short.
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff? I like it when there is gay nonsense along with a plot that is treated as more important than the relationship the most. But I like both. There’s more shippy stuff in tss so i read more shipping action by default.
21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!) Anxceit/Sleepxiety, but in general, give me darksides or give me death/j
22. Do you listen to anything while you write? Almost everything I write has a special playlist I listen to to help me write it, but otherwise I listen to my Nyan playlist, an alter is picking the tunes, or a voidfam playlist. I never have music off. When my internet is down I just listen to the songs I own or Anxiety’s theme on loop.
23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas? I’m fine with all of them. I love working with prompts but I tend to deviate. And I’ve never done a challenge since I can’t do deadlines and bad things happen bingo never sent me a card and I applied three times.
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works? I am generally multi-chaptered stuff, but I’ve been working on a few one-shots lately that are much longer than most one shots.
25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them! I was originally thinking of doing some little 13-year-old Dreaming!Roman (y’know, the one with a job) shorts but it turns out I just had an alter of that little bastard and that’s why I inexplicably know more about him then I ever even considered. I still might do them after Dreaming is done. But that’s paced so slowly who knows when that might happen. Otherwise I put stuff in my notes and just do shorts of it if I’m like “oh you know what’s cool???” but since I can’t daydream maybe this question doesn’t apply to me.
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try? I want to do more autism stuff, and I’ve had it demanded a few times, but I’m scared of being that explict about it for some reason. Possibly because I might be, possibly because I’m scared of doing it wrong even though I’ve accidentally coded multiple characters autistic. I’m scared of explictly tagging them as such, too.
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received? That I can remember off the top of my head? I’m going with one from @a-genz-with-trauma-and-kins. It really helped me out and was just so kind and literally the best christmas gift I got in 2020.
28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing? I can handle it alright but Daeram is a little fucking pissbaby about it. Constructive criticism helps people get better, so I appreciate it. I can’t handle critism that is incomplete, though. “i just don’t get it” or “I don’t know I don’t like it” kind of things. If I can’t understand the why to fix it then things get out of control. And then I spiral and RSD for like four days minimum. If it came from an anon or a troll, too, It might not bother me for as long. Things that are just like “this is shit and you should feel bad” just make me laugh. Couldn’t even bother to read it long enough to insult me proper? I don’t care.
29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out? I have a few times. Mostly in shorts and prompts, I think. I think they turned out okay. They’re not particularly inspired or anything.
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst? Depends on my mood. Am I triggered? give me the fluff. Am I vibin? Angst.
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them! Fuck, fam, no, I can’t, I have so many. I have multiple original stories and some of them have very large casts and like holy fuck. Or do you mean in Sanders Sides fandom? Um, Morgan and Thorn in PD. The lesbian and her himbo dynamic. I love them. They’re dorks. Morgan is strong person with sharp tongue and soft romantic heart and Thorn is just so kind and so dumb and so exciteable he’s like a puppy. They were just filler characters and I got attached to them. Felton even gets redemption for being an ass later in PD, like oof i never intended to include so much OC content, especially for names I just picked randomly.
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less. nope I’m doing all of them because these are fun plea for my new self: 2 gay vampires, 4 humans, 1 braincell dreaming while I wake: trauma child needs therapy and so do you break: big oof, oh dragons, oh why, go virgil go rebuild: virgil is so not okay there’s more virgil to deal painful death: gay teens drink themselves into a new religion stargazing: whoops we didn’t realize people actually cared whole castle: everyone will throw down for kid!patton, even you incorrigible: found family with a shot of psychological horror and crack dangerous instincts: wholesome crime syndacite action  slopes: addict gets mugged and thinks that’s just fine with him conflagration: logan avoids everything ever like a champ cat!remus: bored fae shifts gay pining from one person to another  caffeine cyptids: caffinated gay panic goes faster than regular gay panic eglantine & lycoris: more tropes than you can toss a shoe at storytime: overpowered virgil also overreacts literally always
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process? an alter and I write together and I have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen, what I’m writing about, or even what year it is. I often don’t even remember what I wrote. There’s no outline. I have an idea and I pick things at random for it. There’s just notes and an evil gleam in a demon’s eye. The only reason I know more than readers is because I take a long time to edit and some of these stories have fucking alters up in my head who can tell me things. Daeram tells me nothing. The writing demon supposedly has all this knowledge but I have absolutely no clue because he does not talk to me, he just fronts and slams out 9k in a few hours or we cofront to write and I’m like “oh no she didn’t” while typing
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of. i’m fond of the entire painful death series and I tried to find something I really liked without spoilers in stargazing and I couldn’t so here’s a random thing from incorrigble: “So, what do you do with your friends?” Patton continued on with a megawatt smile. “Grand larceny,” Virgil deadpanned and glared at Patton, who was taken aback. Remy and Andy just broke out laughing while Virgil tentatively sipped his still-too-hot-cocoa.
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!  slopes my dudes slopes i have learned so much about cocaine! like wow! I thought for a minute it was going to end with MCD around 30k but it swtiched from whump to hurt/comfort and I still don’t know if it’s going to be MCD but look at that funky little coke/alcohol addict go, it’s a medical wonder he’s alive! It’s not like there’s what seems to be a little talked about interaction between alcohol and cocaine that causes a toxic chemical to build up in the liver which can result in liver failure and sudden death at basically any moment! Which is part of why it may result in MCD but this time no ghosts! maybe it’ll be h/c with whump elements or maybe it’ll be whump with h/c elements we can’t know for sure

this post, coming to you from the grave...
just kidding. I'm alive and well. just had a lot of personal things to struggle through. but I'm working on getting my life together so I can get a writing schedule set up. here is a question thingy to clog up your dashboard in the mean time.
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
~ maybe like 3.5. I find typos and errors a lot when I read through stuff for the    millionth time
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
~ mostly to get things out of my mind so that they don’t live in there rent free and drive me crazy.
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
~ well, it used to be that I wrote in 2nd person POV and no one liked it. But I have since altered that mindset. So now I need some new stuff for everyone to give me that feedback so I can improve.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
~ mostly, fellow fanfic writers inspire me. But from strictly like a “wow their writing makes me want to be like that, but better” I would have to say its going to be the modern poetry that I read. A lot of r.m drake, Amanda Lovelace, occasionally rh sin.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
~ if only. Because it was my first fic and it was my own story.
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?
~ the idea of the story. I can play it all out in my head, no problem.
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
~ the writing part. And occasionally, like right now, the motivation to write part.
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
~ Blake is the easiest to write for me, but I enjoy writing Weiss and Yang as well. I’m fond of Winter and Pyrrha sometimes.
9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?
~ Ruby. But I think that’s just because I don’t have any kind of emotional connection to her. Out of the four RWBY girls, she’s my number four.
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
~ fiction.
11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
~ when it comes to fanfic, monochrome forever and always. Not fanfic, its going to be poetry that is inspired by my somewhat boring life.
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
~ I have a multi chapter fic in the works, which is why I haven’t posted much. And I like to get everything complete before posting. But I’m struggling to find motivation to do the actual writing.
13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
~ RWBY and it will prolly be the only one I would write for.
14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
~ RWBY.
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
~ oh look, RWBY again.
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
~ friends to lovers is obvious. But I always like the cold, grouchy, lonely ones that come together.
17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
~ something nonconsensual. Or incest. That’s just yuck.
18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?
~ I don’t know if it counts as fic, but it’s not public and I don’t think it ever will be. And its kinda smutty.
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
~ AU all day and night.
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
~ the shippy stuff. Forever and always.
21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
~ monochrome.
22. Do you listen to anything while you write?
~ sometimes if I’m stuck, I listen to please be naked by the 1975. That song has deep seated emotional attachments for me.
23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
~ for the short stuff like one shots, I need prompts or something. For the multi chapter stuff I usually develop my ideas independently.
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
~ one shots for the in between multi chapter works. I say this ironically because I’m not doing well at either right now.
25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
~ not really, because my actual life is the spin off of my fic. It includes a cross country desertion of my entire life. Riveting stuff.
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
~ right now? Just words.
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
~ I’ve gotten too many lovely ones to pick a single one out.
28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?
~ its part of my regular job to take feedback and criticism, so that helps with writing. I have an objective brain.
29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
~ I think just writing the first one was outside of my comfort zone. Turned out alright, since I’ve written a few more.
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
~ why not both?
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
~ my brain isn’t creative enough for OC and the time required to develop them.
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
~ feeling love with nothing felt in return.
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
~ I’m slacking on my writing a lot, and I had a lot of real life things blocking my writing brain. But I’m working on it.
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
~ I just spent over an hour reading through things I’ve written and couldn’t pick a single one.
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
~ this year is gonna be the year I get my writing life together. I’ve worked through a lot of the personal things that prevented me from dedicating time to writing. So I promise monos content for 2021.

Hiii it’s @hotspacepilots! 3, 20, and 24 for the fanfic asks? 🥰
Heeeeeeeeey sweetie thanks so much for asking!! 💕
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
Oh gosh this is a tough one. Honestly, I don't think my work has any particular aspect that makes it stand out apart from the length?? That's not to say I don't adore it! I love every piece I put out but I feel its quite average overall. But hmm.. Maybe characterisation? It's my most favourite part to focus on so I tend to spend a lot of time on it, particularly with delving into the deep space of a complex characters mind. It's the most exciting part of writing a fic honestly!
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
I'm a sucker for ships I'm not gonna lie, but that's not to say I don't enjoy a good gen fic too. But if we're going to go by what I write mostly? Shippy. For my sins.
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
I have no self control that even if I wanted to write a one-shot it'd end up being three chapters long. Even the prologue of my main story ended up with four chapters! So it's safe to say I prefer multi-chaptered works.

As the 15th marks five years since I dropped my first fic onto AO3 to begin my second personal era of fic-writing (after a multi-year hiatus), and I’ve had an interesting sort of writing productivity this 2020, I decided to celebrate by taking a look back at some of my favorite work over the years, in chronological order.
Dark enough to find myself (2015) was actually a final project for a lecture I was taking on fandom, but the concept was something I’d wanted to pursue (dabbling in an old favorite trope of mine--the “two characters, one person” crossover--this time in new fandoms). The time constraints meant I couldn’t broaden the idea as much as I wanted to at the time, and five years later there are a lot of things I would do differently were I to do a rewrite, but I do still love this one and hold a special place in my heart for it.
False Faces Chapters 9 and 10 (2017) are, obviously, fairly deep in the narrative and mark a critical turning point, but they are the two modern chapters I’d put out of this piece, launched back in 2011. I’d originally intended to just clean up Chapter 9 (which had been mostly complete on my hard drive for over five years) and release it to give myself some closure, but after I spent an evening doing some heavy reworking, I found that I still had some heart left in the project, even with how the writing and my interests had evolved. I’m still proud of these two chapters, having executed a key plot point in a way I didn’t feel I could years earlier.
Things Will Turn Out Fine (2018) is for a fandom I no longer particularly dabble in, was inspired by the ending of another show that still drives me up the wall, and was mostly written in the middle of the night after a long week of work, but I still feel this is one of my most understated pieces. It resonated with an audience on here at the time, which led my love for it to grow, and I still think it’s one of my most emotional shippier pieces.
Old enough to know (we’re never letting go) (2019) is... frankly, it’s either my masterpiece, or it’s the first in a line of masterpieces that sparked in some way from this work. Still working in my familiar crossover playing field, I decided to give a different trope a shot and build a story of brotherhood (both in blood and found family--it makes sense in context) from scratch, and eventually spin into a cathartic journey of grief and acceptance (but still with a hopeful ending). The final sequence of Part III, “February 2019,” is one of my absolute favorite things I’ve ever written for the emotional charge of it, and is the piece over which I’ve had many people yell at me, to my delight.
Colors appear (and bleed into one) (2020) is a compilation of Tumblr ficlets, but as someone who largely writes Gen fic, I’ve had some fun dabbling in soft, fluffy shippiness with a pairing I’ve long adored. If I had to call out any favorites, I love pretty much all of the one-off ficlets I’ve written for this collection, and I do have a soft spot for the partnered pieces of “Shirt and Sweet” and “Roped Into.”
A very honorable mention has to go to my beloved work in progress (however it comes to fruition), Distortion. Somewhere around half of the words I’ve written this year have been for this project, which evolved far beyond the inkling of an idea I’d brewed up a year ago and has acquired its own blown-out timeline and playlist and so much more. I would love to share this work someday in some form.

Things I want to write for Three Houses (and may not actually wind up writing), a (most likely) incomplete list:
- Pre-canon fic with Petra, Edelgard, and Hubert. Gen.
- Fic for my headcanon of Edelgard’s stepmother, the Empress Berengaria. We know that this Empress must have existed, for Edelgard references her father having already married for political purposes by the time he met Patricia, but we know nothing about her. My headcanon of her is that she is by birth a member of House Nuvelle, that she was a supporter of Ionius’s attempts to consolidate his power, possessed a minor Crest of Cethleann, and that neither of her two children by Ionius numbered among the few (only three, in my headcanon) royal children who possessed any Crest at all. The fact that Edelgard was one of only three royal children with a Crest made her much more dynastically relevant than she otherwise would have been, and when Patricia was exiled, Berengaria took one look at baby/toddler Edelgard, said something to the effect of “It’s free real estate”, and snatched that kid right up before one of the consorts could get to her. Berengaria pushed hard for Edelgard’s candidacy as the next Emperor; she knew she’d never get anywhere promoting her own children (kid with a Crest wins over a kid without any day of the week), and installing a child she’d raised as the next Emperor was the best chance she had of ensuring that her and her own children’s would be preserved during the reign of the next emperor. She did care for Edelgard—and Edelgard definitely thinks of Berengaria before she thinks of Patricia when she thinks of ‘Mother’—though it’s less clear whether she loved Edelgard. Berengaria locked horns with Lord Arundel often over Edelgard’s custody. Just before the Insurrection of the Seven, Berengaria was assassinated via poison, and most assume it was Lord Arundel who killed her. The fic will be gen, obviously.
- I want to finish In This Valley of Dying Stars. Fic’s Dimileth, though it’s pre-ship, given its space in the timeline and the fact that neither Dimitri nor Melusine are in a good place mentally while it takes place.
- Want to write the sequel to In This Valley of Dying Stars, aka “Melusine finds out exactly what’s up about her and she takes it really poorly.” Dimileth, takes place just post the S-support, though the ship isn’t really the main focus of the fic. Melusine’s existential crisis kicking into overdrive is the main focus of the fic.
- A couple of oneshots set in the same ‘verse as In This Valley of Dying Stars and the as of yet untitled sequel. One of them focuses on Melusine, Flayn, Seteth, and Manuela, after Melusine overexerts herself using Divine Pulse and is unconscious for roughly a day and a half as a result. The second is the search for Rhea in Enbarr after the final battle. Enbarr’s the biggest city on the continent, and without Hubert’s letter, finding her… Yeah, that takes a while, and it’s taking even longer considering that there’s still fighting throughout the city even after Edelgard’s death and Dimitri is in no state to fight after taking a dagger to the shoulder. Both are gen; the first is entirely gen, and the second one mostly gen (In that there’s Dimileth simmering in the background, but it’s not the main focus of the fic).
- A fic set during the timeskip of Azure Moon, in which the explanation for why Mercedes is wearing a cap and veil post timeskip that looks a lot like the headgear worn by the nuns around Garreg Mach is that she took religious orders during the timeskip. Partly because she wants to become a nun, and partly because, while nuns don’t have to take vows of chastity in this universe, anyone who takes religious vows, even if they’re remaining a part of the secular world, is protected by law from being forced into marriage against their will. Even if the Empire has taken over Fhirdiad, where Mercedes lives, the prevailing culture is still very pro-Church, and thus, the men her adoptive father brings around the house take one look at her headdress, only have to hear her say, “No, I’m afraid I don’t particularly want to marry you :)” and are out the door, usually shooting dirty looks at her adoptive father in the process. Said adoptive father is too chickenshit to make her take off the headdress—especially considering she had four separate copies made up of the official document commemorating her taking religious orders, and three of them have been sent off to people who would not be at all inclined to give them to him to burn.
- Timeskip fic of Marianne’s evolving relationship with Margrave Edmund.
- A multi-chapter AU where Dimitri turns into a Demonic Beast during the timeskip, and the only way for him to turn back into a man is for him to let go of his rage and hatred of Edelgard enough that it isn’t consuming him anymore. This one’s… Yeah, it’s gonna be rough. And at least somewhat gruesome (Maybe more than somewhat). Main characters are: Dimitri, Melusine, Felix, Marianne, and when they show up, Rodrigue and Dedue. Gen. The only ship is Marianne x Linhardt, it’s mostly in the background, and it’s here primarily because it’s thematically appropriate and I love them. The violence and themes might be enough to make it M-rated. I’ve been mulling this one over for a while: here’s a snippet. The tag for this one will be ‘Demonic Beast AU.’
- Ingrid and Leonie get a support chain. Basically, it’s Leonie wondering “why is this noble girl asking me to show her how to make candles out of leftover cooking grease?” and finding out exactly why. Gen.
- Seteth comes to the monastery and deals with people reacting to the unvetted, unqualified stranger being promoted to a position of high authority over them. Gen, here’s the post I made speculating about it.
- Rhea and Seteth in the monastery, just being siblings at each other. Gen.
- Silver Snow Seteth having a reckoning over the damage wrought by the Crest System, and over everything he’s been complicit in since coming to live and work in the monastery. Basically a “That moment when you realize that the system you’ve been complicit in upholding has fucked over everyone you care about whose names aren’t Rhea and Flayn, and now everyone you care about may well die thanks to the secrets you and Rhea have been keeping,” to bridge the gap between what we see of him in the game and what we hear of him in his unpaired ending. Gen.
- Ingrid’s relationship with her mother, which I imagine as being at least somewhat fraught. Gen.
- The Sacred and Profane (titled such because I am so very original), centered around Rhea’s first couple of attempts at making a vessel for Sothis out of the children she created from her blood. Gen. The only fic idea I haven’t written yet that actually has a title.
- A fic centering around Lysithea and Ferdinand’s relationship if the game had fleshed it out more. Because I love their interactions in their paralogue, and I would have liked for them to have a support chain. Will probably be set in Azure Moon or Silver Snow. Could be gen, could be fucked-up shippiness. Anything is possible.
- An AU where Rhea learns to see Melusine’s mother as a person in her own right rather than simply a failed vessel, and thus treats Melusine like a person as well. So she handles things a bit differently after Melusine is born, and thus, Jeralt never leaves the monastery with her. And yet, things manage to go almost as poorly as they do in canon. Gen. Will be tagged ‘Grandmother AU.’
- An AU where after Edelgard resurfaces after having been experimented on and successfully implanted with the Crest of Flames, Rhea snatches her up and declares her a ward of the Church because those kids were descendants of someone she gave her blood to, dammit. Things… do not go well. Gen.
- Post-canon in Crimson Flower, Edelgard and Lysithea have a tense conversation just before Lysithea undergoes a procedure to have her Crests removed. Gen.
- Shapeshifter Marianne AU. Not sure if it will be gen or have ships in it.
- A fairy tale AU where Melusine is a lot more like her namesake. Probably Dimileth, and probably the least likely thing on this list to actually get written.
