saw a gamer™ image post that reads (i am paraphrasing) ‘noobs are not bad players they are new players; be nice’ which yeah be nice but is it a generational thing where people dont say newbs anymore? everyone in the comments was like ‘yeah totally’ and someone even added ‘im only a casual but i pown pros all the time’. i just remember having that distinction insisted upon me very aggressively and i wonder when people stopped differentiating it because you wouldnt know the difference with voice chat? is that why that commenter wrote ‘pown’ because theyve probably never seen it spelled out as pwn? none of my linguist friends were online during that period of time so idk where to ask specifically or if its even something they could begin to think upon
