Bolsonaro sidelined from Brazil's political scene as Trump enjoys resurgence
The political fortunes of Brazil's hard-right former President Jair Bolsonaro long mirrored those of his ideological ally Donald Trump - but their fates now look to have diverged dramatically.
As Trump prepares for four more years in the White House, Bolsonaro is barred from public office and could be tried before Brazil's Supreme Court next year after police accused him last week of plotting a coup.
For years, Bolsonaro followed Trump's tracks, first by mimicking his political style to win the Brazilian presidency with an anti-establishment campaign in 2018. When he lost a reelection bid four years later, he adopted Trump's playbook again, spreading falsehoods about the legitimacy of the results.
The reaction of the Brazilian politician's supporters was eerily similar to Trump's, with thousands of them vandalizing government buildings in the capital, Brasilia, on Jan. 8, 2023, hoping to overturn the results of the election that Bolsonaro lost to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Yet Trump is now back on top in Washington, untroubled by several court cases, while Bolsonaro is sidelined from upcoming elections and possibly cornered by three criminal investigations.

The author's poorly disguised fetish
The author's proudly displayed fetish
The author's fetish you're pretty sure they don't realise they have
The author's fetish which they're firmly convinced everyone has and is just pretending otherwise
The author's non-sexual special interest which just sounds like a fetish because of their habitually unfortunate phrasing
The fetish the author is making a well-meaning effort to cater to in spite of clearly not understanding it themselves
The author's fetish that never quite makes it into the text because they keep getting sidetracked by the requisite worldbuilding
The author's utterly pedestrian sexual preference which the text treats like a bizarre fetish because they've got shit to work through
The author's seemingly innocuous recurring trope they're going to have a personal revelation about ten years down the road
The author's fetish you missed on a first reading because it's so far out of pocket, it never occurred to you that you could sexualise that

if you're worried about the new ToS for AO3, please remember that you are primed to distrust because of the way politics are intertwining with the internet right now. remember to look into definitions yourself, fact check, and look through the logic lense before jumping to conclusions.
AFAIK right now, the update clarifies terms that have already existed. it's not changing as much as it is clarity-rewriting. i'm still looking through the legalese (law student, i'm learning as I go) and I will be checking in again later, but don't despair.
however, don't get lax. download fics, connect with the authors, build out your communities. comment and bookmark and save, and please don't stop writing.

someone I follow on the bird app just announced they’re starting a very exclusive private fic server because they and a bunch of other people want to talk about how much they love the fics they’re reading, and as an author can I just say that a really great place to talk about a fic you love is in the comments for that fic
I understand that people are trying to create safe spaces, but as the number of comments that I get on my fics dwindles with each passing year, knowing these spaces exist where my fics are being discussed, places that I am excluded from, makes me want to write fic LESS
I mean I guess who cares, right, because if I stop writing, there’s 10,000 other people that will continue…but if you participate in a fic “book club” server and you say nice things there about a fic you loved, maybe copy and paste that into a comment on AO3?
the only thing fanfic writers are asking for in return for hours of hard work is attention. please don’t rob us of the one thing that we hope for when we hit “post”

I've seen confusion about this a few times so let's clear something up:
With closed traditions, you are COMPLETELY 100% ALLOWED to:
Think about them
Talk about them in conversation
Learn about their history
Follow and talk to members
Ask questions about it in good faith
Think it's very interesting and cool
Find aspects of it relatable to your own philosophy
Accept willing gifts from members, or buy what they are willingly selling
Attend events if you're invited, or events open to the public
Eat or cook traditional food
Listen to traditional music
A lot of people seem like they're scared to interact with people from closed traditions because they're afraid somehow even looking our way will offend us. We're not angry people with secret social rules, we're just people. Like just be nice and you're fine
