Martyn has no issue with getting older, none at all, but still, every year, when his birthday comes knocking, it's another dread to the list.

And like always, it's here again.

Martyn’s birthday.

If you were to know anything about martyn is he hates being touched when overwhelmed, but he still craves that touch. 

He also has to wear the same two coats everytime he leaves the house, and they both look exactly the same except one is bigger on him.

There's also assigned seating in his house. He always sits on the left end of the couch, next to the end table that has a lamp. And it really bothers him when someone else sits there.

He also puts his closet rainbow order. 

And he hates chocolate cuz it makes his mouth greasy.

And when he gets scared, he thinks he hurts his friends and cuts them off out of fear he's making things for them worse.

And he hates holidays.

Gods how he hates them.

Well...

OK. He doesn't hate holidays. He loves the idea of them, really!! But, in practice? The only he really ever takes joy in, is halloween. You can't fuck up halloween. He just, he can't remember having a happy holiday? Maybe it's childhood trauma, maybe he's being dramatic, but also every holiday he can remember, was tainted in some sort of way, by some just, awful event. 

And as you can probably assume. Martyn counts his birthday as a personal holiday.

Its 12:32am, and martyn is a year older, and martyn feels sick. The numb sort of sick, where you aren't necessarily connected to it, but you can still feel your stomach turning in knots. He's scared. He sits on the kitchen counter right by the sink. The light above the stove being the only light on besides his phone screen. 

12:33am. The numbers taunt him. 

He realizes he probably won't do anything about it. He has the day off from work. So his plan is probably just stay up too late, because he never gets the peace of mind to get good sleep, if any at all during holidays, natrually, sleep in, make something to eat, watch shitty TV, go grocery shopping, hop on the discord vc, hang out, talk with who ever is there, and then read until his eyes feel heavy. Just like every other day.

Martyn decides to update his discord status. The silly profile picture of a picrew greats him. The background is an ace and unlabeled flag, and martyn feels his heart sing for just a moment, before the rot in his stomach takes over again as he taps into his status. Erasing the song lyrics without hesitation.

'Lvl 25!!' 

Yeah. That'll work. 

It's 12:36am now. It's 12:36am, and martyn is scared.

He isnt sure what he's scared if. But he feels the frantic beating of his pulse. Martyn gave up on figuring out what he was so afraid of years ago.

It wasn't getting older, no, he'd been raised on the internet, a constant state of feeling like he should be older, and feeling like he shouldn't be this old yet.  An odd limbo, so it wasn't the fear of getting older. 

And it wasn't necessary the fear of the future, of course the future is scary and he had his fair share of issues with it.

It's more of, every year, is just a reminder, that he's going, absolutely no where. He has nothing to show for it. No friends with tales about him, no one to sit in his one bedroom apartment and tell him, they're happy he made it another year.

He knows in full certainty, it's kinda his fault. And a part of him wishes, as he stares at his phone, that someone, anyone. Sends him a text without him reminding them. It's 12:41am and martyn sees a tear hit his phone screen. 

Another year passes, his age just goes up another number, and he hates his birthday more then he hates any other holiday. And still.

He's insignificant at best.

And once again, annual birthday post, and like always, I put my feelings about my birthday onto a character. If I post on February 26th, just assume it's a vent post. I'm not feeling awesome, but I will live, and post more later, I'm writing a few really fun aus right now actually!! :)))

They had five whole years - FIVE - to retool the show to its former glory. But apparently having 16 housemates in for just 6 weeks and throwing twist after twist at them is captivating TV. BB20 had hiccups and was okay. BB21 is a hot mess.

Yes! And let's be real, no one wanted backdoor evictions in BB20 either. 😅 But Kerry and Matty's evictions were executed well enough that we forgave it! BB21 has better tasks, but is a downgrade in every other conceivable way. ☹️

I still think they would have been amazing if they were done live. Imagine the show airing Matty getting his letter read and then AJ and Will and the screaming crowd confirming his eviction. I don’t like how ITV (and Channel 5 to an extent) didn’t have flexibility with live shows.

The Isolated and Disturbed

He doesn’t remember anything from before he was 13… and he doesn’t want to either. Lux is perfectly happy where he is right now as a tall, streetlamp, robot-like being at Broadmore Institue for the Isolated and Disturbed, a laboratory disguised as a mental institute. He knows of his half human nature, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to connect with his fellow peers! If only there weren’t any locked doors (literally and metaphorically) in the lab that the human part of Lux wanted to open… badly.

Chapter 1

PROLOGUE

A young woman walked through the dense forest with a camera in her hands and a bag along her body. She glanced around, sighing in exasperation—she was lost.

Maybe I should just give up and go home, she thought, looking back. It must have been midnight by now, but she turned on her camera to check—yes, it was 12:33am. Not to mention it was cold, and so dark you couldn’t even see the sky.

“No way I’m walking back at this rate…” the woman muttered to herself, zipping up her grey hoodie. “Might as well call for help- shit.”

Dead battery, she noticed. Stupid me, of course I didn’t charge my phone..!

She continued walking forward, seeing as waiting for help wasn’t an option in the cold, dark woods. Just as all hope seemed to be lost, she found it:

“Broadmore Mental Institute for the Isolated and Disturbed!” she exclaimed in shock before slapping her mouth shut. Crouching behind a bush and putting her hood up, she, a journalist, set up her camera, determined to get to the bottom of this case and expose this “Mental Institute” for what it really was—a torture chamber.

“This is Amanda Hall speaking,” she spoke in a hushed whisper after turning on the camera. “ And for a few years now, the children of Broadmore Valley have been going missing—at least, the children who were diagnosed mentally ill. They were admitted to a mental hospital, you guessed it, Broadmore Institute for the Isolated and Disturbed.”

Crack!

Amanda looked back.

…nothing there.

She looked to her camera again, nervous.

“…perfectly normal children have been admitted here for no reason other than their irresponsible parents and adults who claim to want the best for our children, but they subject them to-!… nevermind… the point is, I finally have footage of this horrible place, and I’m going to expose it for what it really is: a laboratory that experiments on young adults and kids-”

CRASH!

Amanda turned around, frustrated and tired. “Who the hell is there!?” she exclaimed, looking at the trees as her camera continued to record. Again, dead silence, as though the sounds were a mere hallucination.

It was really dark.

Clank!

"Wh-who's there?" Amanda whispered, her voice trembling this time. She took a hesitant step towards the source of the eerie sounds, her camera clutched tightly against her chest. The darkness seemed to close in around her, and she could hear her own heartbeat pounding in her ears. Every rustle of leaves and snap of twigs made her flinch, imagining unspeakable horrors lurking just beyond her vision.

As her hands shook and her eyes widened, Amanda realized that again, there was nothing there. Maybe it really was her imagination, maybe she should just go home for Christ’s sake-

A light.

Amanda looked up to see two bright lights shining on her, and at first she was relieved—just a streetlight, right? Until she took a closer look at the source… she learned an enormous robot-like being was towering over her, with limbs of metal and flesh, hair on its head, human but not quite, and it grabbed her shoulders.

“Wait, please-” she started, her life flashing before her eyes as her hood came off. She was completely exposed, with nobody to help her. It was over.

And as the robotic being twisted her head off her shoulders, following with multiple stomps to the face, and as she screamed and writhed in agony, and as the blood splattered all over the ground… the job was done. He dragged the trespasser’s body back to the institute, slamming the doors shut once he got in.

And that has been his reality for the past five years.

He says that he fears me for I am like the dog that does not bite and he is like the cat that has seen too many k-9 teeth lunge at its neck. I lie next to him on an early Sunday morning. The sun is shining through the blinds. We bask in it together. He sees me in clearer lighting than he sees most, the source of much irony. I don’t mind. I see him look at me with glossy eyes as if I am so beautiful yet so elusive to him. I cannot blame him for fearing me for what I resemble. I may not be the threat but I pinned my hair back like one, my eyes shined like one, I smelled of vanilla just the same. My skin was softer, my approach gentler, and my cheeks more flushed. None of these things came without cost before, not to him. I don’t blame him. I don’t mind. It’s sweet in some ways to know that I may be the sun that, through his lens, looks like an oncoming storm but he comes home anyway, slowly stepping under me, hoping its still warmth I provide. It is. I just keep sitting in the same place, my palms open, never needing it to be up to me, just rooted in what I know I am. Just fine.

Hi. I work for a religious affiliated (catholic) hospital. It is a requirement that I attend a professional development course that is essentially a Bible study. I will be required to learn about/discuss the Bible and how I can apply its lessons to leadership. Is this actually legal?
