Just a few of Italian designer Joe Colombo's creations, reproduced from the new 304-page @silvanaeditoriale catalogue raisonné 'Joe Colombo: Designer.'⁠ ⁠ The Tube Chair, the Spider lamp and the Boby trolley (now in the collection of MoMA in New York); the “Monoblocks,” such as the Mini-Kitchen or the Total Table with its integrated dishes; the beautiful global housing unit, a visionary “machine” that aims to encompass all the needs of living—these and other icons of Italian design by the brilliant visionary Milanese designer Joe Colombo expressed a total vision of living that was characteristic of his time.⁠ ⁠ This volume—part of Silvana’s series on 20th-century Italian design masters (with previous titles on Sarfatti, Parisi and Arredoluce)—constitutes the first catalogue raisonné of Colombo's work. Around 180 projects are documented, divided between works still in production and historical works, for companies such as Oluce, Kartell, Bieffe, Alessi, Flexform and Boffi. Essays by Ignazia Favata—Colombo’s longterm collaborator—and Domitilla Dardi are completed by a critical anthology.⁠ ⁠ Colombo was born in Milan in 1930. In the early 1950s he worked as an artist, exhibiting alongside Enrico Baj, Lucio Fontana and Roberto Matta, also joining the Concrete art movement. He began to devote himself to design in 1960. In 1962 he opened a design studio in Milan, receiving architectural and design commissions. Among his best-known works are his Kartell chair of 1965; the Spider lamp (winner of the Golden Compass award in 1967); and his halogen light of 1970. Colombo died in 1971; he was posthumously included in MoMA’s 1972 show Italy—'New Domestic Landscape.'⁠ ⁠ Edited with text by Ignazia Favata. Illuminazione per ambienti, idee e soluzioni per arredare al meglio la tua casa, con lampade di marca!

Buonasera,

Se siete alla ricerca di una Lampada per arredare al meglio la vostra casa, sicuramente siete passati già da marchi come Oluce, Kartell, Flos, e chi più ne ha più ne metta!

Io, come sicuramente anche voi, se avete avuto modo di affacciarvi al mondo dell’illuminazione, ogni volta che mi trovo a scegliere una nuova lampada di design, rimango travolto, dal quel mare sterminato dei lampade appese a soffitti in quei negozi tutti uguali, sommersi in luce ed ombre ed in quel cause di situazioni, non riesco mai a trovare qualcosa che si adatta ai miei ambienti.

Bene quest’anno a differenza degli scorsi anni, mi sono avvicinato molto alle soluzioni proposte da Kartell, ho sempre apprezzato le creazioni realizzate da questo brand di lampade, ma senza mai soffermarmi sulla sua storia e su ciò che è riuscita a realizzare !

Il mio interesse per questo marchio, si è sviluppato a causa del mio repentino amore per la lampada a sospensione Gè di Ferruccio Laviani. Nello studiare questa splendida realizzazionuscita e, del designer in questione, mi sono avvicinato al brand, è ho scoperto come questo marchio ha contribuito ad ampliare e rendere grande il design made in Italy legato al mondo dell’illuminazione per ambienti.

La Kartell infatti, da quando è stata fondata a Milano nel dopo guerra, ha sempre lavorato al fine di far crescere l’utilizzo di nuovi materiali per l’utilizzo e la realizzazione di lampade di design. in particolare mi ha affascinato come già al inizio degli anni 50, quest’azienda abbia scommesso molto sul utilizzo della plastica, nella realizzazione di lampade di fascia alta, contrariamente a quanto era in suo in passato, dove la plastica veniva considerata una materia di scarto o comunque un materiale di secondo livello, economico, ma non idoneo alla realizzazione di lampade di fascia alta.

La Kartell insieme ad altre aziende chiaramente, ma in particolare quest’ultima, è riuscita in un impresa che considero epica, modificare nel immaginario collettivo l’idea che si aveva della plastica, nobilitandone l’uso che in passato non era da considerarsi idoneo per determinati utilizzi.

questo cambio di rotta molto interessante e degno di nota, lo si è avuto anche grazie alla collaborazione della Kartell, con designer di grande rilievo, come lo stesso Ferruccio Laviani, Autore della lampada Gè, che tutt’oggi continua a lavorare e a realizzare opere di grande impatto scenico e di grande gusto con materiali derivanti dalla plastica, come il policarbonato.

Oggi a mio avviso, la lampada design Gè di Laviani, è l’apoteosi di quanto fin qui espresso, questa lampada che con le sue striature ondeggiate sembra quasi volersi fare beffa, delle sue simili realizzati con materiali nobili come il vetro di murano.
