Hi! Was wondering if you could pinpoint about what month and year the Uchiha Massacre happened for a fanfic that I'm writing. I've been going over the light novels and narutopedia, but Itachi's timeline is just a mess :[

It's a bit messy and imperfect because as you must have noticed, it's not possible to fit all the elements we have in a cohesive timeline, but I can do something.

Once again, I'm using Naruto's birth/the Kyuubi attack as the year 2000 for the dates.

The short answer is: April or May (or 1 to 8 June) 2008 and it's not too bad because (i think) the only thing it doesn't account for is it's supposed to be 1 year after Shisui's death, and that only makes 6 months.

The long answer is: "Here's the process and general Itachi timeline I got so far."

April 2002 - Itachi's Academy Entrance

He graduated after one year of school (Itachi Shinden chapter 1 part 3). He graduated in the springtime (idem). I am also running on the assumption that the Naruto world has April to April school year like Japan does since there's no reason that wouldn't be the case, and that springtime things point to that.

April 2003 - Itachi's Genin Graduation

He is 7 (manga chapter 145, data books 1 and 2). Hinata's kidnapping right after her 3rd birthday (manga chapter 102) happens during his first year as a Genin (Itahi Shinden chapter 2 part 3). Same notes about April to April school year.

April 2004 (more or less) - Tenma's Death

It's about a year after they graduated (Itachi Shinden chapter 2 part 3). Itachi awakens his Sharingan after that (idem) and he is eight when he awakens his Sharingan (manga chapter 145, data book 3), therefore he must be 8 at the time of the event. He also gets freshly graduated teammates after that (Itachi Shinden chapter 2 part 4) so I'm assuming it happened before or at the same time as that year's Genin graduation which madz it possible for Itachi to be put back into the team-making process for that new batch. It might not be precisely April, but it's around that date.

October 2006 - Itachi's Chuunin Promotion

As we all know, this one is entirely fucked up. He is supposed to be 10 (manga chapter 145, data books 2 and 3). Sasuke is supposed to be 4 (Itachi Shinden chapter 2 part 4). Itachi is supposed to be 11 and sasuke 6 5 months later (Itachi Shinden chapter 3 part 3). He is supposed to have spent 2 years as a Genin (idem). And it's supposed to be 6 months before Sasuke enters the Academy. So virtually it's anywhere between June 2005 and October 2006. I went with the latter because it also made sense with his Anbu promotion date, but whatever you do will be half right and half wrong so, your choice.

April 2007 - Sasuke's Academy Entrance

It's 6 months after Itachi's Chuunin promotion (manga chapter 220), however, that doesn't mean much since it's a big mess. It's also at the same time as the mission that gets Itachi his Anbu promotion (idem). Same notes about April to April school year.

April 2007 - Itachi's Anbu Promotion

It's 6 months after his Chuunin promotion (manga chapter 220). It's at the same time as Sasuke's Academy entrance (idem). He is 11 (Itachi Shinden chapter 4 part 3) and Kakashi is 20 (idem). It's 3 years after Tenma's death (Itachi Shinden chapter 4 part 5). The only issue is that at some point he's said to be still 11 6 months after his promotion, except he turns 12 in June.

October 2007 - Shisui's Death

He dies at the time when Sasuke is getting his first-semester report at the Academy (manga chapter 221).

October 2007 to April 2008 - Itachi's Anbu Commander Promotion

He is 12 (Itachi Shinden chapter 6 part 2) and it's after Shisui's death (idem). It has to be at least a bit before the massacre since there are a few scenes of Itachi with his new team after the promotion.

May 2008 - Uchiha Massacre

Sasuke is 7 (manga chapter 145). Itachis is 12 (Itachi Shinden chapter 6 part 6). It's 4 years after Tenma's death (Itachi Shinden chapter 6 part 5). It's a year after Shisui's death (idem). This is the only requirement that this date doesn't meet, but if we put the massacre in autumn 2007 the Itachi and Sasuke would be a year older. I put May because it has to be before Itachi's birthday on June 9th, but it could be earlier than that, it's just that the later we put the date, the closer we are to one year since Shisui's death. For the record, the coup d'état was planned for the next day (idem), which is irrelevant in terms of date since we don't know what date it was planned for, but it's relevant to the general timeline so I'm just saying it here.

I hope that helps! I didn't put the quotes with the sources cause it felt a bit overkill, but I have them so if anyone needs the specific sentences I'm referring to just ask and I'll tell you.

Turns out I thought I had cleaned my Itachi timeline already, but I had just taken the notes and thought I'd clear it once I'd be done with my reading and I hadn't done it yet so, thanks for making me do it now haha.
