What happened the 3rd time u were at the hospital 😭😭

i'm glad u asked ! so, it was the day my parents moved out of their old flat. it was a saturday and i had to work from like 10-14 (i used to do the eye exams for first aid classes on weekends, didn’t know that this day would end my career there) so i woke up early to help them in the morning.

first offense: i woke up, i put on some clothes, put my phone in my back pocket, and then went to the bathroom to pee - i think u can imagine what happened next<3 anyway i put it in rice and then carried on bc it was a busy day

second offense: there was a set of stairs leading up to my parents' front door and it was ofc raining on the day we had to walk back and forth between the moving truck and the flat so that those stairs were slippery as fuck and no one had the brilliant idea to lay smth down so that no one would slip - which ofc i did<3 i was carrying a box too which was a whole mess and everyone was outside by the moving truck so i thought i was just gonna die by myself. eventually ppl found me and i was in extreme pain and scared i broke my hip or sumn, so my sister drove me to the ER (i also had to tell work that i wasn't coming in which was a whole ordeal bc i didn't have a phone so i had no one's number). got called in pretty quickly which was lucky but i got a doc who immediately went "are u from iran" when he came in el oh el like i'm dying over here and this man wants to make conversation 😭 it was also extremely awkward to get my hips checked out by him afterwards but anyway . he looked at it etc and then went "well . it could be broken but there isn't much we could do about that anyway and ur a young woman so idk if we can/want to do an x-ray in that area bc it could be harmful to ur ovaries" great<3 he said he was gonna talk to the ladies in radiology and see what they say and then they did send me in and we got x-rays done but the ladies in there did make me feel VERY worried about never being able to have children 😭 anyway turned out it's not broken but def bruised and they just gave me some pain meds

third offense: around the evening hours the move was still a whole operation and they were running out of cleaning supplies so someone had the BRILLIANT idea to make me drive to the store to get stuff bc i couldn't really help otherwise. my cousin, thank god, accompanied me but she didn't have a driver's license then so i drove which was a huge mistake bc i was hurt for one but i also just had scrambled brain. my parents lived in a cul-de-sac and u had to turn left to get on the main road but there isn't a traffic light so u just gotta to wait till ya find a break in the stream which alwaysss took ages bc it's a main road. we were sitting there for like 10 min already and i couldn't take it anymore, so i wanted to reverse and take an alternative road and ofc i didn't check if anyone's behind me before i did so bc why would i do such a logical thing<3 so i hit the car behind me and the guy was ofc furious and started yelling at me etc and i just BROKE 😭 i started sobbing like crazy, like it was really too much for me, and i was like "i'm so sorry i've had a DAY" and just started ranting and showing him my hospital wrist band that i still had on and i think i scared him bc he was like "hey listen it's actually not that bad, i think it's just my license plate that got dented, i'll take it off tomorrow and see if the car underneath it was damaged, so just give me ur number and u'll get a call from me tomorrow" which was very nice but made me sob again bc i didn't have a phone BDKJDMDDBDN my cousin gave him my sister's number and he did call the next day and told my sister there was no damage so we could just forget about it (however, the next day my sister and her husband drove to the old place for the VERY last time and she got into a huge accident while driving out of that cul-de-sac like what are the ODDS)

fourth offense which wasn't a personal offense but still adds to this day: we all managed to make it to the new place and it was around 10pm when we were finally done for the day. my dad and my cousin were outside to take the trash out or sumn and the others said their goodbyes and went ahead to open the front door to leave - but it would not budge. the keys weren't able to unlock the door and we were all stuck inside, my dad couldn't open it from the other side either so after 40 min or so of trying everything we decided to call a locksmith. he got there 1h later but could not do shit so that was useless<3 in the end we figured out that u could open the windows in the hallway outside the flat and inside the flat (they're at a 90 degree angle, idk how else to explain it BDNSNSM) and then jump over - problem is that my parents live on the first (or second depending on where u live lmao) floor so it was quite a fall if u slipped 🤪 i do not recommend this to anyone and it was very dangerous but everyone did make it to the other side alive and my dad got back inside lmao the next morning my parents' landlord came over and they had to forcefully break the door in the end and my parents didn't have a working door for a week, the end<3

last movielast stream: i don't watch streams or youtube often, so it was the same as you, vish! liu chang's birthday stream was SO enjoyable i screenrecorded the entire thing just so i could play it back (and maybe gif sometime if i ever get the drive to actually do it)

currently reading: well i just finished the translated quan qiu gao kao or global university entrance exam novel, which was sparked purely from catching a single rec post here on tumblr and basically just *falling* into this 166 chapter epic that is *amazing* and not coming up for air until i got to the end, which is typical novel-reading behavior for me (yes i was the kid who read through lunch period and got hassled by people who kept pestering me with "what're you reading" questions and yes i realize probably a lot of you on tumblr were too) plus, the new murderbot novel is out tomorrow!!!!! so that'll be where i end up next!

currently watching: the entire dmbj verse (that i can get my hands on) but ... sporadically and stopping at random different parts because the thing is ... this type of show is not really the kind i enjoy so much? so since it's more for "research" and learning character arcs (and let's be honest: shots of liu sang), etc. it's easy to get distracted by other stuff. i'm also watching the sleuth of the ming dynasty, mr queen, bromance, the expanse, re-watching farscape and stargate sg-1, just finished the falcon and the winter soldier, and then anytime something new and short gets introduced it jumps the queue. there are just. so. many. things. to. watch! (now i have to look into anti-fraud league too!? you all are cruel ...)

what is antipoetry to you: i ... don't really think much about poetry? i know what i prefer is usually the more basic rhymed kind like lewis carroll, emily dickinson, poe, coleridge, etc. so i suppose i don't have much use for classifying non-rhyming verse? i can appreciate stuff like rupi kaur which i guess would qualify? or that william carlos williams plums poem? but it doesn't really stick with me the way lyric-like verse does

currently craving: i never know what exactly this is meant to be in reference to ... hmmm, i would love a new high-concept, high production-quality movie like say, pacific rim, to be released, just for that massive, excited energy that comes with something new that hasn't already got tons of disappointing or conflicting history behind it - that would be so fun!!

other than that, right now, i mostly kinda want some fried fish? but that will have to wait until i go to get my second vaccine shot on wednesday since it's on the way there. i'd also like my internal body parts to settle down and fly right but it's been more than a month and they don't seem inclined :(((( maybe once i'm fully vaxxed i'll think about consulting somebody about it

ok im gonna take this as an opportunity to talk about ANX’s own resident twincest couple because i love them theyre amazing and TO BE FAIR they are my favorite

ok so a little backstory: irkens can inbreed without genetically imploding like humans do- if they EXCLUSIVELY inbreed for too many generations then there are problems but that would like. never happen normally. because of this, there is no cultural taboo against incest

on the defect sanctuary planet, family units are just starting to become a thing. so there are mates, and smeets, and hatchmates etc. being multiple of those things at once (i.e. hatchmates and mate-mates) is seen as a little odd- but only a little. anyone who has a truly big problem with it is seen as an asshole. (good luck to any humans that move there!)

which brings me to The Couple:

their names are purin and pelle- purin is a boy and pelle is a girl. but that’s not how they were hatched! kind of? irkens choose genders in smeethood, there’s no agab. originally, purin said he was a girl, and pelle a boy, but they switched around because they both realized they picked the wrong genders (which happens sometimes lol)

they each kept their original names

so growing up they were always..... those kids. the weird as fuck kids. even on a defect sanctuary planet, there’s a bit of stigma against defects who are too defective. think a zimlike temperament- they’re looked down on for being too weird, as opposed to the Good Defects who are like Normal Irkens, just a bit different

and they were always attached- they never went anywhere without each other, they just.... felt at home with each other. of course since theyre on the defect planet, they DO have a family- and their family does accept them! it just hurts when everyone else treats them as pariahs

so in their teenhoods, they started to distance from each other and tried to be more “normal.” purin has a bit of an easier time, but pelle, who’s more outspoken and loud, did not

and neither of them were happy. they missed being close to the other in a way they never really understood? they thought it might be a twin thing at first, but that never..... felt right, yknow?

and of course their family realized smth was up. they have an older sister who ended up confronting them separately about it and they evennnnntually realized what was going on ya dig

and theyve been mates ever since. they talk in a very particular echo-y way and- ok ok hold on lemme- 

“We’re twins,” she clarified, “from the same egg.”

“It was a big egg.”

“A really big egg.”

“Almost killed our dad.”

“We have a really small dad.”

they really play up the “creepy twins” aspect of their personality and act like a singular hivemind unit, and only let their true personalities shine more in private

pelle is the more outspoken one and purin is the quietly mischievous type. theyre both bastards dont get me wrong lmfao

they’re EXTREMELY codependent on each other and the fact that they isolate themselves from everyone is a Bad Thing

its not the focus of the plot but in the background you can kinda see them going thru development on their own; showing up separately and not talking in that echo-type way all the time. but they stay mates! the fact that theyre mates isnt unhealthy in of itself, the fact that theyre so isolated was

a lot of people on their home planet kinda see them being mates as a “what else couldve happened?” thing. like, they’re both too creepy and weird for anyone else to love them outside of, well, each other

one of the assessors got jumped a while back. she was just walking past a pt in the main assessment dept and he jumped up, punched her in the back of the head, took her to the ground and beat the fuck out of her. she was out for weeks and weeks and had broken facial bones. i can’t believe she didn’t quit.

our nurse executive quit though. not like, went prn or gave two weeks notice, like just straight up was like I’M DONE and walked out which honestly is the closest i’ve ever come to respecting him.

while having more psychologically unstable pts isn’t new, having more medically unstable pts has been a problem lately. like our crash cart is not like a medical hospital’s crash cart it’s like. an ambu bag some iv supplies and a stethoscope no lifesaving medications. when a pt has a medical issue we send them out to a medical hospital because obv we don’t have the resources to treat complex medical issues where we work. which didn’t used to be an issue because you’d used to see maybe two medical codes a year on my unit. we’ve had /ten/ since my last update post /just on my shift/. two of which weren’t even “pt is going downhill fast” codes they were “pt has no heartbeat and isn’t breathing” like we had to fucking bring two people back from the goddamn dead /within ten minutes of each other/. we’re all like we’re psych nurses man if we wanted to do this shit we’d work er. [and the er we’re required to send these pts to is awful like they sent us back a guy who had almost died twice in three days who had an /untreated brain tumor/ bc obv he’s totally fine]. or we’ve been doing mash unit style medicine like the suicidal kid with partial thickness burns all over his chest and neck that literally no one was doing anything about. we were debriding burns with a mixture of different PO IM and SQ drugs to achieve the same effect as IV morphine because debriding is extremely painful but not doing it will just make things worse and no one else seemed to care so we just fucking did it. like we’ve done so much medical nursing lately. like the one with the uncontrolled severe seizures that led to the medical hospital labeling her first break schizophrenia despite no family history of mental illness but /five different medical issues that all cause psychosis/. or the one they let on the unit despite being on the do not readmit who has untreated hiv that he actively tries to give to other people and /active tuberculosis/. or the one with the aneurysm. or the one with severe CHF. and on and on and on. and remember: we’re not the most medically unstable unit in the hospital because we have a 40 bed /geriatric psych unit/ so you can imagine the kind of pts /they’re/ getting. on the plus side, all of our ten odd codes lived.

my personal life is still a goddamn mess, of course, but that’s a given. don’t even know where to begin with all that. and i can’t talk about a lot of it which makes it that much more fun.

i had an entire crisis about the odyssey [which tbh is still kind of going on even after /weeks/] because i’m getting so cagey in memphis because i fucking hate this town. and i just got back from new orleans which is the closest thing i have to an ithaca at the moment and it killed me to come back to this fucking city.

i’m also really paranoid right now because after i come back from vacations, something terrible always happens and i’m not exaggerating it’s like clockwork to the point that the bad things have all happened between friday and sunday after i’ve returned from my vacation, each time, without fail. well that would be this weekend so i am just waiting to see what great horrors await me this goddamn time. [last time, it was the whole coworker killed in vehicular homicide thing]. but i guess paranoia isn’t the right word. you’re only paranoid if you’re wrong, and my life has already set the precedent. so i guess anxious is the better word.

the anxiety is increased given that my mother has been out of work all week because they’ve had trouble regulating her blood sugar and so she’s been really sick and even said so herself she’ll probably end up in the er over the weekend because she doesn’t think she can make it till her next doc appt because she’s miserable, and she’s already been in the er once when this weird shit started happening a month or so ago so the Vacation Curse has me even more concerned than usual, which is saying something. 

there’s a new psych doc working now and everyone is really unsettled by him and we’re pretty sure he’s a genuine psychopath like completely without exaggeration and he’s already done a lot of really creepy things to/with staff members and one nurse said in passing “i’ve known a lot of doctors like him he’ll end up fucking a pt at some point” which we initially left to hyperbole but he’s been doing shit like transporting female pts to other units without the staff’s consent in his own car which is like all kinds of not allowed, and the way he talks to some of the staff is just downright rapey honestly. and so we had a rough case this summer who, through the combined efforts of my squad, we got her from a diagnosis of intellectual disability with schizophrenia, nonverbal, self harming all the time, history of physical and sexual abuse, constantly in restraints and on a 1:1 obs level to a new diagnosis of autism spec with ptsd because her “hallucinations” were /flashbacks/ and she ended up very social and verbose and like fucking read william blake for fun and had a great sense of humor and was off all special observations and had a transfer to another facility pending so she could get more 1:1 long term therapy, and the creepy doctor was covering her case while her actual doc was out of town and he rode all the way to the other hospital with her which is another thing you do not do, and we found out from a coworker that she is now a /2:1/ [two staff members within arm’s reach 24/7], self harming again, in full shutdown/meltdown mode, and nonverbal. and it was such a rapid deterioration that all of us lost sleep over the possibility that this creepy doctor might have done something because even after she was at the other hospital and therefore no longer our pt, /he kept going to see her/. which fucked us up a lot because we were the ones who worked so hard for so long with her. like even the thought of it.

recently had 25th birthday so naturally had a crisis about that because i’d always said my goal was to be out of memphis by 25 and yet here we are. 

another of our fave pts, esp one of /my/ fave pts, died out of literally nowhere. the day before my birthday. so that was great.

also felt really surreal to see the news about the convictions in the holly bobo case, which i found out about when one of my coworkers was reading the news on his phone during a lull one night i forgot that to him and everyone else it’s a national news story [hell it even has its own wikpedia page] but to me it’s just /holly/ because she was /in the class above me in our nursing program/. my first semester in college i remember seeing her face on missing posters on every building on campus. so it was really a weird moment of dissociation for me. glad the motherfucker was found guilty on all charges, obv. 

the tech of mine who got his skull slammed into the floor, the one who’s been out with what can only be called severe psychological trauma, is supposed to be coming back the third week in october. which i just. i mean i’m glad because he’s one of our best guys, but i’m also like /why the fuck would he come back/ because he could be a fucking english professor again. motherfucker spent part of his youth growing up in italy and montreal, lived on the west coast for years, /was/ a college professor, did time as a script doctor in LA, and was a fucking thriller novelist who just gone girled himself for whatever reason and ended up working with us. there’s literally a reddit thread asking if anyone knows what happened to him and i want to be like don’t worry it’s fine he works with me. but so we’re like why would you come back to this place after what happened to you when you have so many other options available to you????? what are you running from that makes you so desperate to keep centering your life around a locked acute psych ward???? why did you gone girl yourself to begin with??? like he was screwed up enough there for a while that he wasn’t even answering his calls or texts and our boss had to send the police to do welfare checks on him because he lives alone so it’s like man why not go back to the life you had before and /get away from all of this/ it’s not like my situation where i’d rather be living a different life but have never done so, he already has the foundation because he’s already lived a different life he has an in that i don’t have and i can’t for the life of me figure out why he thinks working as an acute pysch tech is the better option. 

but i mean. we /do/ call our unit the hotel california for a reason.

Rereading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Chapter Three - Will and Won’t

i can only say SORRY 4 THA WAIT so many times before it gets old but FURREALZ not a lot of downtime for reading our old pal HP here  in tokyo. BUT IM STILL TRYNA GRIND SO HERE WE GO

Harry Potter was snoring loudly. He had been sitting in a chair beside his bedroom window for the best part of four hours, staring out at the darkening street, and had finally fallen asleep with one side of his face pressed against the cold windowpane, his glasses askew and his mouth wide open.

- were basically just reading things lying around in harrys room to recap what went down last book. AS IF I COULD FORGET

These words seemed to rouse Uncle Vernon. It was clear that as far as he was concerned, any many who could look at Harry and say “excellent” was a man with whom he could never see eye to eye.

this passage is amazing. i mean, its horrible bc this is harrys guardian saying it about him, but still. hilariously amazing.

“Albus Dumbledore,” said Dumbledore, when Uncle Vernon failed to effect an introduction. “We have corresponded, of course.”  Harry thought this an odd way of reminding Aunt Petunia that he had once sent her an exploding letter, but Aunt Petunia did not challenge the term. 

LOL harry if only you knew theyve corresponded more than that one time. this is the little girl who begged dumbledore to let her go to hogwarts!!!!!!

- spotted: dumbledores old gross shriveled up blackened hand I WONDER WHAT THAT COULD BE FROM

“But first of all I must tell you that Sirius’s will was discovered a week ago and that he left you everything he owned.”

ouch. was not expecting this type of hurt in this chapter.

“His godfather’s dead?” said Uncle Vernon loudly from the sofa. Dumbledore and Harry both turned to look at him. The glass of mead was now knocking quite insistently on the side of Vernon’s head; he attempted to beat it away. “He’s dead? His godfather?”

BOY IF YOU DONT STOP for fucks sake its like my hearts being stabbed every time he says ‘dead’

- KREACHERRRRRRRR IS IN THE BUILDING YALL!!!!!! his story is probably one of my favorite plot lines like, ever.

“Er - Kreacher - I want you to go to Hogwarts and work in the kitchens there with the other house-elves.” Kreacher, who was now lying flat on his back with his arms and legs in the air, gave Harry one upside-down look of deepest loathing and, with another loud crack, vanished.

- im still upset that buckbeaks name is now witherwings. what kind of a downgrade is that. but whatever IF HAGRIDS HAPPY, IM HAPPY

Dumbledore paused, and although his voice remained light and calm, and he gave no obvious sign of anger, Harry felt a kind of chill emanating from him and noticed that the Dursleys drew very slightly closer together. 

and THATS why dumbledore is such a boss ass bitch. ya hes old, whatever, but this is why the dude is the most powerful wizard 

“You did not do as I asked. You have never treated Harry as a son. He has known nothing but neglect and often cruelty at your hands. The best that can be said is that he has at least escaped the appalling damage you have inflicted upon the unfortunate boy sitting between you.”

hot DAMN. dumbledore just spit some truth AND threw a grade-A burn. hes my idol

- dumbledore asking the dursleys to let harry return to their home one last time next year got me FUCKED UP. guys, were almost done.
