Therefore it's very important to me that Roderich | Austria is both a lightweight and a heavy drinker, the best disastrously fun combination.

Consider those closest to him knows how much he can drink everyone under the fucking table.

And consider: he is the worst drunk to ever be in the company of.

Loud, volatile, aggressive — this is because alcohol essentially stripped down all those carefully arranged walls of prim, proper poise as expected of the once emblem of all things aristocratic, imperium, all that revering shit.

As a drunk, the former feral youth he once was would take the spotlight and shine like the beautiful gemstone of utter chaos and depravity.

He's terribly touchy too but not in a cute way—shoving, pushing, hitting whoever is within proximity. Then turned to clinging with a vice grip that would make you regret thinking this would be an endearing vulnerable moment.

Oh no, this princess for all his undaunting grace would give you grief over the smallest things he remembered about you especially if you had been his former spouse. Antonio was a prime target, was subjected to plenty which he adored anyhow, he enjoys seeing this unrestrained version of the Austrian.

The Germans would both be shocked and enjoy it the first time they witnessed this, only to be horrified at the umpteenth time the Austrian is drinking, then forcing those closest to him to take another shot, chug another glass, what have you.

This is why Roderich tries to keep drinking to a minimum, he knows how he gets when inebriated, and the hangover each time is quite the kicker. Though incomparable to the mortification of whatever tales others would share of his drunken exploitation.

“Right,” Kanan said, turning to face the source of the gruff, accented voice. It turned out to be a huge, burly man with a beard and a t-shirt with some ancient band logo on the front, tattoos winding up and down his arm. “And you’re…”

“Zeb Orrelios,” the man said, extending a massive hand to him— the other was strapped in a sling. “Heard good things about you from Sabine. And I looked you up— pretty talented pilot.”

“Thanks,” Kanan said, clasping his hand. “You’re one of the pilots here, right? You’re in Stygian Rival?”

“That’s me,” Zeb said. “When I’m not on injury leave— car crash, if you can believe it. That’s what happened to my partner, too. All that time in a Jaeger and that’s what takes him out.”

Kanan winced, sympathy panging through him. “I’m sorry.”

“It happens,” Zeb said, a hint of sadness in his voice. “He was a good friend. But I hear you dealt with the same thing, so you know how it is.”

Thinking of Stance, laying in that hospital room, hoping that he’d be able to walk again, Kanan nodded. “Yeah. I do.”

Zeb nodded, seeming to approve— of what, Kanan couldn’t say. But he liked the guy. With his accent and his straightforward attitude, he reminded Kanan a little of one of the pilots he’d met down in Australia a few years back, and a lot of his stepfather’s cousin, Wolffe.

“So you’re sticking around here?” he asked, and Zeb shrugged.

“That’s the plan. Even if they don’t find me a new partner, this is my life, you know? I figure I can find something to do. As long as I don’t have to work in Loccent. Nothing personal against ‘em— I just have beef with a guy up there.”

“Right,” Kanan said, half-grinning. “I definitely want to hear more about that.”
