yeah because Mitsuo is not the killer, I know this, you know this, we all know this
if finding a fake killer gets me tuna tho i'm in, i'll frame a man every day, i don't care
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WAIT WAIT THE STORYBOOK FROM THE SUN LINK IN P3P GOT PUBLISHED? Man its a dark children's book. Beautiful but nihilistic. You know the kids who read that are going to have a lot of difficult questions their parents do not wanna answer. Good, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summer Festival! Nanako is adorable. AND GET THIS. BRACE YOURSELVES. MAKE SURE YOU ARE SITTING DOWN AND HOLDING ONTO SOMETHING.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DOJIMA ACTUALLY SHOWS UP TO TAKE CARE OF HIS DAUGHTER. I KNOW. I KNOOOOOOW. Shocking. Usually this girl is being raised by six teenagers and the human personification of a mascot character.
A STUNNING turn of events!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teddie is such a manipulator lmao. First he suggests everyone pair off to enjoy the festival bc That's What You Do At Festivals, then gets the boys deliberating who should go with who, then while everyone is all turned around, he swoops in to take all the girls out around the festival so no one is 'left out.'
lmao. i love Teddie. I'm actually trying to pin down why Yosuke's horny boy bullshit annoys me but Teddie does not. It may be because he's SO flagrant about it, he's SO over the top, you know going in its a Yes, And scenario. Or, you can slap him, lmao.
After, Rise invited me out to a one on one date to the festival. She's very funny and boisterous but I think I'm friendzoning everyone in this playthru. I haven't found anyone I wanna date. And I know there is one more option coming so I don't want to accidentally pen myself in, like with Akihiko and late-comer Aigis. Poor Aigis.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not about to let anyone begin to assume he's a good dad, over in the Hierophant SLink, Dojima reveals that his wife died in a hit and run while Nanako was in nursery school. Which explains why Nanako barely remembers her.
Dojima's whole deal is that he's still working that case, still trying to find out who killed his wife. He claims its for Nanako, that someday in the future, she'll appreciate it.
And listen. The trauma of your spouse being murdered is not a joke. That's really heavy stuff. Your life falls apart as a pillar is just suddenly taken out, and surviving the loss of that kind of load-bearing structure is very fucking hard. I got zero judgement there.
However. Nanako doesn't give a shit. Her mother is a distant figure that doesn't affect her life anymore but via her absence. There is zero doubt in my mind that Nanako would remember Dojima more fondly as a man who stepped up to be her fucking father rather than having the closure for, sorry, a woman she has likely already forgotten the face of.
So again: get your shit together, Dojima.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SUMMER BEACH EPISODE. lmao poor kanji on his bike. also, Teddy is in bear mode. WHY is Teddie in bear mode? That seems much harder to travel with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not even gonna squint at Yosuke. Yosuke, someday, you will look back on your youth and feel so goddamn embarrassed at yourself. You are the very model of a modern repressed bisexual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LMAO irl cackling. his response is so blaise. "why would i????" hahaha
Tumblr media
lmao i missed it but chie and kanji were racing at like mach speed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course because we need shenanigans, Teddie has been pulling at swimsuits to no avail. Well, almost no avail.
Hey, what is with the lightning bruiser boys and their tiny swimsuits, lmao. We are creating such a Specific trope here with them, it's bemusing. The venn diagram is something all right.
(Wait i JUST fucking noticed that Kanji has a fucking scar in the exact same place Akihiko does. What the fuck. That is a WILD coincidence.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FUCKING YOSUKE AND REVERIE'S AVERTED GAZES LMAO. gdi teddie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the voice acting here is a fucking treat, i cannot tell you enough.
Tumblr media
everyone's doing amazing, sweetie
compared to the spring camping trip, this is a ten out of ten

how about the move draining kiss :3c
hello friend today I give you angst ft. college aged souyos who are bad at communication
It was a draining kiss, the sort of kisses they'd been stealing from each other for a month now.
"Yu," Yosuke murmured, pulling back from Yu's lips.
Yu moved to chase his lips but stopped a couple centimeters from his face. He pressed another kiss on the corner of Yosuke's mouth before pulling away properly and opening his eyes. He stayed silent, waiting for Yosuke to speak.
This was their usual position, holding each other in the kitchen of their apartment, one of Yu's hands holding Yosuke's face and the other set on his waist. Yosuke's hand positions were more variable depending on how he felt each particular night. He'd hold Yu's face when nothing horrible had happened that day, take one of Yu's hands and hold them by their sides when he felt sweet, send his hands scrambling through Yu's hair when he needed an escape from the world. But in a way, weren't all these kisses a form of escape?
Because for as much as their kisses were dances that carried everything they felt, they never spoke a word about it. Yosuke would press a kiss against Yu's cheek on the morning he had early labs and scramble out of the apartment after shouting a goodbye. He could remember a time Yu had gotten so carried away with kissing him that Yu--star student Yu--almost missed the bus to his classes for the day. They would share a kiss that felt adoring, fond, dare he say loving, then pull away and ask each other what they wanted for dinner.
What're we doing? he wanted to ask. What's gotten into us? What are we?
Yosuke knew what answers he wanted to hear--answers he'd been wanting to hear for years.
But when he looked at Yu, all his thoughts died on his tongue. Yu's face betrayed nothing. For as much practice he had reading his face, for as much as he prided himself on being the person who knew him best...
He couldn't do it. No matter how much it drained him hoping these kisses meant something, not having Yu in his life wasn't an option. Yu wasn't someone he could ever lose.
"What's wrong?" Yu said.
So Yosuke shook his head and pressed another kiss against Yu's lips, quivering heart be damned. "Nothing. What do you want for dinner?"
Yu pursed his lips, and something sad flickered across his face.

@thedetectiveofinaba asked: "...Hanamura-kun. Do you think that what I said exactly one year ago is still causing the IT members to think that I'm... not stable?" Naoto usually wasn't too concerned on her temperament, but the specific day of the year reminded her of the few times she'd let the people she trusted at that time see how she could be without a filter on her temperament.
It still scared her to think she'd sounded so vile and extreme. Both the Fortune and Magician had been on the side of vengeance, but it still was a regret on her to let things get to that point to begin with.
(December 3rd moods ft. Yosuke, reply w/ your own pace!)
Unprompted | Always accepting
Tumblr media
“What?” That query took him by surprise, making him stop his homework instantly. It was that time of the year again. December 3rd, the worst month of all of his life. The one who was most affected by this was Yu, of course, but he and Naoto... said and almost did some horrible things to an innocent person. Namatame may have kidnapped everyone under the pretense of ‘saving’ them, however, the reality was the complete opposite.
They could’ve died if it weren’t for their Persona powers who defeated their Shadows.
Based on the clues they had during the time of Nanako’s kidnapping, they were positive that he was the true culprit, and so Yosuke suggested that Yu throw him into the TV as the capital punishment for his crimes. Naoto called him pathetic and told him not to beg for his life. And yet... he was wrong. Both of them were wrong.
He couldn’t get over that. He was sick to his stomach thinking about it now. “I...” He sighed, “Look, what you said was pretty messed up. It was unlike you to be so... cruel. But that doesn’t make you unstable.” He looked at her in the eyes to make his message clear. “I mean, if anything, he... deserved to be punished somehow, right? But what I blurted out was even worse... and I apologized later, but... why did we both say those things? It wasn’t a nightmare... it was real, and I feel so horrible, even now.”

Parental Relationships
Tumblr media
Just a reference archive post for the blog that goes a little into how the Doctors' families were like/ what relationship they had with their parents
PLEASE NOTE THIS MIGHT BE SUPER SPOILERY FOR A FEW DOCTORS. I have intentions to discuss a few of these people's families briefly in some side stories either explicitly or through dialogue, but I won't do it for everyone bc it might not matter to the story itself. This is otherwise purely just reference for those interested.
Yosuke - His parents were fairly demanding, but Yosuke managed to pick up on a lot of different activities enough to satisfy them and did find joy in several of those activities. He had a fairly busy childhood that initially stressed him out since he wasn't so used to the fast pace of learning so many things, but he never wanted to be seen as lesser or get put down by his family so he adjusted to the demand. He did not utterly hate his family, but he did have poor opinions of them early on and he was relatively distant emotionally from them. He found value in what he did for the sake of it, rather than whether it pleased others.
Mom - Her parents were usually quite busy and never tended much to her unless they had to or had spare time. She grew to seek attention from her mother especially by acting out, but only found herself being labelled as disappointing when she did, even when her mother was just as bad a person then as Mom is now (minus the messed up mental state I suppose). For the sake of keeping up appearances and holding onto the family money, Mom adjusted herself to expectations while present around her family or their friends/business partners/etc., but she acted most like herself when not at home. She often slunk away from important gatherings to mess around with the sons of her parents' associates.
Sven - He didn't dislike his parents, but they left him unsupervised a lot of the time when he was in his teens and coddled him when he got in trouble. He was constantly doing things that should have gotten him arrested, but his parents often paid people off before that ever happened. His relationship with them was more parasitic than it was loving or scornful.
Jude - Jude had a pretty decent standing with his father, and had a fairly quiet upbringing. He did not grow up with a mother since she died when he was young, and his father was always pretty busy and couldn't always afford to hover over his kid. Jude learned to be independent at a young age, but was fairly social and kept busy with other people (sometimes questionable people at that). Neither father or son much interacted, but the interactions they did have were not unpleasant.
Micah - He had a good relationship with his mother and often stuck to her when he was younger. He also constantly tried to take care of his mother who often struggled living alone with her son. Micah did not have a father since his father left when Micah was young, but close to his teens, he did have a demanding and crude stepfather who he absolutely hated.
Gale - They had fairly traditional parents who did not much like that their child wasn't super social and was struggling with their gender identity. Gale was raised as a girl, and constantly referred to as a daughter. Even when they once made it clear about their gender identity, Gale's parents didn't agree with the "choice" and asserted their child as a girl/woman. Gale did not have quite that much trust in their parents after a while despite initially being quite trusting of them as a child. They couldn't exactly get up and leave home, so they had to put up with lying about themselves to others and fronting as primarily female. This bleeds a lot into how they used to front themselves before TF. But once Gale was able to leave home and had their own slight financial footing after college, they essentially cut themselves off from their immediate family and kept only certain social relationships
Jonathan - Jonathan had no real qualms with his parents. They let him be most of the time, and only expected him to do something decent with his life. They raised Jonathan in a humbler place, but soon shifted elsewhere after a job change and so there was a lot more social pressure in the social class they climbed to. Everyone ended up being more distant with each other into Jonathan's teens, so he was often starved for attention and excitement despite being relatively anxious about meeting new people and jumping into new things.
Nathaniel - His mother was much more open and loving toward him, while his father was far more demanding. His father disapproved of Nathaniel's interest in the arts, and he expected his son to get into something "worthwhile". Nathaniel found frustration in his father, but was close with his mother.
Milos - It's been said Milos drunkenly talks about his father, and it's evident he had a rocky relationship with the man. However, Milos could do no more than rely on his father for things. He was a rough man who treated his son harshly and had high expectations of his son to follow in his footsteps. Milos despised the man, yet feared him all the same.
Lilah - Lilah did not care for her parents whatsoever--her mother was distant and her father was a controlling asshole who put a lot of restrictions on her that she never followed. She did everything possible to upset him, and he in turn did everything possible to stifle her.
Monica - Monica's parents were a bit pushy with her, primarily her mother. She expected her daughter to live up to high social expectations, was highly opinionated, and often ushered her daughter in a specific direction while expecting her not to ask question. Monica didn't like her mother's tendency to hover, make constant suggestions, and sometimes make decisions for her without consulting her daughter. She had a strong dislike for her mother bcause of these tendencies, but refused to outright say she hated her. She found dealing with and talking to her mother like a person very difficult since her mother tended to shut her opinions down. When Monica was young, she did as told and hardly questioned this, but she became a bit more rebellious and mouthy when in her teens. Only after fighting against her mother for years did she eventually even out and become much more docile. She feared being left in the dark if she didn't act a certain way for certain kinds of people, and figured that social expectations could not be countered with rebellion forever. Monica's mother much more agreeable and loving to Monica when she behaved anyway.
TO + Lucius - I can't go into these two atm, but you can pretty much wager TO had a shitty relationship with his father and hated him, while Lucius might not have hated his own family.

so I know I haven’t posted just writing in a while, but here’s some SouYo that I finished a single chapter of and then haven’t found time for continuing yet. (this is going on AO3 once I get more chapters finished, also). Just a weird little “what if Souji and Narukami, but one of them is shadow”
---
[The True Self]
From the moment they'd med (and Yosuke meant really met. When the guy had pulled him out of the trash can, not when Chie had kicked him in the balls holy shit both of those were so lame, Yosuke was such a loser), Yosuke had sensed a certain kinship with the transfer student. They were both city kids plopped into the small middle of nowhere town of Yaso-Inaba, therefore Yosuke had to help the guy out.
Unfortunately, it was hard to really tell how to do that with this guy. When the guy had helped Yosuke out of the trash, he'd smiled so brightly and introduced himself as Seta that Yosuke wasn't sure there'd be anything to help out with. His voice was so gentle and radiated a kindness that Yosuke had instinctively wanted to protect this guy immediately.
(Which was weird. Protect from what?)
In lieu of anything that didn't make sense or make Yosuke sound like even more of a loser, he'd just casually slid the offer to go out for the specialty in this small town (nothing big, just fried steak, god this town was such a podunk boring shithole) onto the table. Seta had been polite, a little embarrassed, but that small smile was ecstatic as he agreed.
Then, after class, Yosuke wanted to gently remind Seta, but the guy seemed completely different all of a sudden. That gentleness had become a strange mischievous smirk, though it quickly became one of disgust once Yosuke mentioned the plan. Although, really, Yosuke was sure Seta was disgusted the moment he had realised Yosuke was talking to him.
Politely, harshly this time, Seta complied, but Chie had luckily overheard (and there was something Yosuke had never known he'd be grateful for, Chie's freeloading) and asked to come with. Then Seta was much more agreeable.
Another thing of note, Chie called the guy 'Narukami', not Seta. Which, again, was weird.
(Who the fuck was this guy?)
Yosuke took them to Junes, not the place with fried steak (because he wasn't made of money, he reminded Chie amidst her loud complaining) and the guy (fine, Narukami for now) continued to be a mystery. The way Narukami casually flirted with Chie really rubbed Yosuke the wrong way. Even when Yosuke left to talk with Saki-senpai a moment, Narukami leaned over to Chie and gave a pointed murmur of, "No way a guy like him has a girl like that, right?"
But, okay. Yosuke couldn't let it bother him too much. He'd lived in cities, too, he knew the drill of guys acting cooler in front of girls. He'd been shoved around like this, made the butt of the joke, just so his 'friends' could score some points with the girls they liked. Prince of Disappointment and all.
And, really, it just had to be that this guy was realising what a bore this place was compared to a bigger city. After a few days, the stir craziness had set in and he was probably doing this purposely to get a rise out of them. Maybe. Either way, Yosuke could still relate, could still understand.
Then Saki-senpai blew Yosuke off to go see the transfer guy, too. And warned him about how annoying and nosy Yosuke could be. That stung. Yosuke tried not to flinch, but Narukami replied with a teasing, "Yeah, tell me about it."
It was a bit much and Yosuke was not proud of the way he had to grip his hands into such tight fists to keep himself from showing how much it affected him. There was a mysterious glint in Narukami's eyes, though. Something more genuine than the taunting bravado he was putting on. Chie and Saki-senpai laughed in agreement, but then he continued.
"But I kinda like that about him. Makes things interesting."
Narukami turned his gaze straight at Yosuke, meeting his eyes with all the smugness of a goddamned self-important cat. The girls' laughter died out after that. Then Saki-senpai returned to work and Chie launched into some stupid rumour about something called the Midnight Channel. Yosuke barely listened, too busy watching this Narukami, trying to find some clue explaining what the hell all that was even about.
Narukami continued flirting with Chie until they had to head home, going so far as to offer to walk with her. This guy had to be some kind of pro, as she agreed easily, all blushy and stuttery and cute. And that just made Yosuke want to punch the fucking smirk off Narukami's face.
The next morning, Yosuke was hesitant to approach the guy. Which face would he end up seeing this time? Before he could make a decision one way or another, the guy noticed him and waited for him to catch up.
Smiling out of politeness and concern, the guy said, "Ah, I wanted to apologise for the other day, Hanamura-san. My brother tends to not agree with those I like to talk to."
Yosuke frowned. "Your brother?"
"Yes, Narukami."
The guy (Yosuke was sure it was Seta this time, maybe) nodded, as if that explained things perfectly. Had Seta swapped with Narukami sometime yesterday during class and Yosuke hadn't noticed? Had anyone noticed? They had to be identical twins, as Narukami looked exactly like Seta (except for the harsher expressions), but how did they get away with this?
Admittedly, Yosuke hadn't paid too much attention yesterday during class. Nor had he paid much attention to when Seta (and Narukami, maybe?) had been introduced, as he'd been in too much agony over crashing his bike and breaking Chie's precious Kung-Fu DVD. It was possible that there were two of them and Yosuke just hadn't noticed.
Oh, but that meant Yosuke had made the mistake of taking out Narukami instead of Seta. Well, shit. Yosuke was the asshole here, as usual.
"I also had. A strange experience last night. Concerning the Midnight Channel." Seta pressed on, before Yosuke had the time to apologise.
That distracted Yosuke instantly. The stupid rumour thing Chie had strong armed them into checking out, right. Yosuke grew a bit hesitant as his own experience flashed through his mind (Saki-senpai, looking in pain and calling out for help though there was no sound to it) and gave a prompting, "Oh. Yeah? Who'd you see?"
Seta's frown twisted in confusion. "Well. It's less about what I saw, but." His shoulders drooped as he deflated. "It was a girl, but that was all I could tell. She seemed to be in pain."
Yosuke's stomach dropped. Could it be that they saw the same thing? The same person? If that were true, then Saki-senpai might be in trouble. Then again, that was quite a leap of logic. But if this Midnight Channel really worked like how Chie had said, then how could it be possible for Saki-senpai to be both of their soulmates?
Back when the rumour got started. Weren't a ton of the students talking about how they saw that newscaster, Yamano? And then she'd ended up dead.
A shudder rolled down Yosuke's sides and he had to shake that dread off. It was too early to be making these types of hasty conclusions.
They walked the rest of the way to school in silence, Yosuke too lost in his own thoughts to think of replying properly. Seta looked like he had more to say, but nervously kept his mouth shut. He took his seat in the spot right in front of Yosuke once they arrived at class and Yosuke stared out towards the windows until King Moron shouted at all of them for being lazy asswipes. (Not in those words exactly, but the sentiment was definitely there.)
Embarrassingly, Yosuke spent most of the day staring at the back of Seta's head instead of paying attention to the lessons. It was just so mysterious. A transfer student with a twin whom they swapped places with during the day? It went against all logic, really. Yosuke wanted to find out when exactly Seta and Narukami made the switch. Was it lunch? Before they arrived in their classes? Shit, that would mean Narukami was all ready seated in front of Yosuke, possibly. But how had no one else noticed this? How did Yasogami allow it?
Seta did leave during lunch, no doubt to eat in private, but did return for the rest of classes. Well, Yosuke thought it was still Seta. He needed to figure out a way to tell the two apart, because there had to be at least one tell. There had to be at least one visual cue to tell them apart besides their mannerisms.
After classes were finished for the day, Yosuke took a deep breath and went to test the waters. He stood by Seta's desk and grinned his usual friendly grin. "S'up, dude?"
The guy smirked, mischievous and harsher once more. That was Narukami. "Are you checking in with me again, Hanamura-san? That's rather sweet of you, I guess I have to say 'thank you' now."
Yosuke's eye twitched. Yup, no mistaking it. He laughed a bit half-heartedly with an uneasy, "That's a little..."
"It's no wonder Souji-chan likes you."
Narukami's smirk turned into a glare. A surprisingly sinister glare at that. Yosuke's hands gripped into fists and he had to, once again, hold himself back from punching this guy's smug face. Why was his immediate instinct to defend Seta? To stand up for someone he barely even knew? Unable to fully curb that aggravation, Yosuke muttered a heated, "No need to be an ass about it, Narukami-san."
There was nothing wrong with either of their statements. Except for the clear hostility they radiated. Still, Chie butted in with an oblivious and eager, "Hey, guys! Did you watch it? Who'd you see?"
Narukami sat back, rolling his eyes (grey, Yosuke noticed, just like his and Seta's hair), then smiled charmingly up at Chie. "It was fuzzy, but definitely a girl. Boyish and cute, too, from what I could tell."
Narukami looked like a smug cat. How was it even possible to be that bold and smooth at the same time? Shockingly, Chie took the bait and blushed, all coy and girly. "Oh, really?" She (thankfully) snapped out of it quick enough and grew serious. "But - But I saw a girl, too. So that means my soulmates a girl as well."
She gave a defeated exhale while Narukami frowned in thought. The most neutral expression Yosuke had seen on either brother yet. If all three of them had seen a girl. Possibly the same girl. Yosuke's earlier apprehension slammed back into him. This couldn't be a coincidence. There was no way this Midnight Channel was showing anyone's soulmates.
But why Saki-senpai? Why that Yamano lady? Was it even really Saki-senpai? Something still seemed a bit too far-fetched here, there was some piece Yosuke was missing to really understand what the hell was going on here.
Narukami, still oddly neutral for once, said, "After seeing the Midnight Channel last night, my TV tried to eat me."
Chie and Yosuke both snapped their heads towards him, incredulous. Narukami didn't seem to even notice as he continued, parsing out something on his own.
"The only reason it couldn't was because the screen was too small and my shoulder stuck. Perhaps this could have something to do with the fact that we all saw a girl?"
"All? Wait." Chie sputtered (very undignified) and whirled on Yosuke. "You saw a girl, too?"
"You don't have to act like it's some big shock." Yosuke huffed at her, putting up the affronted airs though he had no energy to really meet her challenge. "Honestly. It looked like someone I knew. And she was in a lot of distress."
He rubbed a hand through the back of his head, through the hair there (it was getting a bit too long, probably, and he'd need to dye it again soon since the roots were coming through just a bit), too concerned to not let it show through for the moment. Chie looked at him in sympathy, in confusion, but Narukami chose that moment to stand and shock them both out of the moment. "It's decided then." He said, grabbing one of Chie's hands in a way too familiar, way too gentlemanly manner. "Let's go look for a bigger TV and find the truth."
"Wha-What does that even mean? Hey, Narukami-san!"
Chie's shrill voice continued as Narukami directed her out of the room. Yosuke should probably go along, especially if they were headed towards Junes. Which, of course they would be. Where else could anyone find a TV large enough to jump through in this small little town?

14. Everyday’s Great...
Philemon seems to enjoy seeing his Wild Cards live on with their lives…
insp.
Persona 4 Golden X FeMC!Reader
Tumblr media
05/03/TUE-Daytime | Junes Foodcourt
“If the killer was trying to silence her, there might’ve been something at the scene only she would have understood. Which would mean that the culprit may be someone close to Ms. Konishi.”
The words of Adachi still rang fresh in your mind. Yesterday, you and Yosuke offered to treat Chie and Yukiko Junes’s steak meal as compensation for your Personas practically eating all of the instant noodles. When your group had given them the steaks, Adachi had came by and began rambling his mouth over precious information. The evidence that’s been compiled from the police has been keeping you awake at night. Even Izanami had caught on with your overthinking, her trying to shake you out of it last night and before you were meeting with the others plus Nanako.
Speaking of Nanako, she was having the time of her life being at the food court despite it being, well, just a food court. You wish you could share her happiness but with how those words ring in your mind, you just couldn’t share her sentiment.
“So you’re the family cook, huh? Pretty impressive ‘Big Sis’!”
You blinked out from your thoughts, looking at Chie for a moment before shrugging. “You have to do what you have to do.”
You tried to ignore the sharp, side-eye glance from your Persona as you fiddled with the hem of your coat.
“As expected from our Leader! You’re pretty good with your hands when you made me that pork cutlet the other day!” Yosuke said, giving you a thumbs up.
Jiraiya, who was being held by the scarf by Tomoe, piped up. “’Good with your hands’...? Really, man?”
Yosuke choked, cheeks flushing red. “D-Don’t take words out of my mouth!”
You were thankful for the distraction as Izanami shook her head at the Wind-attuned Persona. “I blame the both of you for that.”
Beside her, the shivering pink Persona looked at Jiraiya and Tomoe. The muscled Persona still had Jiraiya in a strong, leash-like grip. “They’re quite close, aren’t they?”
From that comment, Tomoe sneered but held no ill will against Konohana. “As if I would be close to scum like this idiot.”
“Hey, that’s like two insults already!” Jiraiya yelled at her. “Besides, it’s not like I bug you all the time and the rest of the ladies don’t realize I exist!”
“In case you haven’t noticed, we have a new ally on our cause that I’d rather not corrupt so soon.”
Beside Yukiko, Konohana Sakuya was busy trying to catch a butterfly between her hands. It would’ve been adorable if the butterfly phased through her hands like they were nothing before she sadly sighed. She may not have realized that she was able to physically grasp things at her will but you’ll put your faith in Izanami that she’ll teach her... Even though you don’t know how they do it themselves.
Jiraiya clicked his tongue in disdain before moving his head towards Yukiko. “Hey, Amagi, was it?”
The girl in red jumped up in surprise, not expecting to be under fire. “Um, yes?”
He cocked his head (as much as he could) to your direction. “You sure you don’t have any closeted feelings for ____ here? Because I’m pretty sure Sakuya here says otherwise.”
“Dude!”
“Anyway!” Chie exclaimed before patting her hand behind Nanako’s chair loudly: A sign that there was a child in the group and, most importantly, she can’t see or hear your Personas. “I can consider myself a pretty good cook too!”
Yosuke scoffed. “You? Cook? Hard pass.”
“What, you wanna cook-off?!”
From her battle cry, Tomoe let go of Jiraiya’s scarf and raised her fist at Yosuke. “Bring it on! Chie will not be defeated by the likes of you!”
Jiraiya flexed his shoulders even though you knew that he was joking about this. “Don’t cry when you lose, woman.”
“Children, behave.” Izanami said, but not making a move to stop them at all.
Now that it sunk in, you looked back at her on why she wasn't stopping them. In fact, she was leaning on her left leg and her arms crossed like she's watching actual children fight. All you could think about was since when was Izanami so laid-back? She wasn't like this before and you didn't even know Izanami could take a joke.
As if wanting to further spiral your mind into disarray, she joined in on the festivities. "If we're speaking about culinary talents, it is my own master who will reign supreme."
Good god, since when can she gloat?
Soon, everyone has the same aghast expression on their face. With everyone looking at Izanami like she told them that your hand would be fine if you dunk it in scalding hot water, it was a wonder how Izanami wasn't buckling down from the attention. Even Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko are looking at her like she was the goddess that she's supposed to be.
Nanako, who finished her snack with a smile, looked up to see all of you staring at something with a funny expression on your faces. She looked to where you all were staring at only to find nothing but a cat with its paws outstretched towards a fish decoration. It was clearly fake and sloppily done-the white of the paper peeking through the mismatched crayons-but the cat deemed it was tasty enough for it to try and eat it.
But the girl thinks that it was funny enough, so she copied your expressions with glee.
Eventually, Izanami noticed their staring and shrugged. "Jiraiya must be rubbing off on me."
Like a gust of wind, the frog immediately slid next to her like in those cartoons before wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Oh, Izanami! You sly woman, how adorable that you're taking my mannerisms!"
As if to add more to the fire, his voice dipped lower, a tone that you never heard him or even Yosuke since they sound remotely the same, made you shiver. "You trying to turn me on?"
Before Izanami could say anything, a sharp spear was hooked under his scarf and yanked him away. It wasn't long before a smack was heard.
“Um… Anyway…” Yosuke steered back the conversation to them. “So Nanako-chan! With all these contenders in our group, I bet we can make something that could top your mom’s cooking!”
You and Izanami winced.
Nanako answered without flinching. “I don’t have a mom. She died in an accident.”
Everyone besides you and Izanami eyes widened at the statement. Tomoe stood even more rigid than usual, Jiraiya actually paused in his floating for once, and Konohana stopped fiddling with her petals.
It took a while but Chie nudged Yosuke with her hand. “Hey, Yosuke…”
He fumbled with his words, trying to come up with something to try and clear the awkward air, but all he could muster was the usual ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t know’ phrase.
Luckily, Nanako took it in stride. “It’s okay. Even if I don’t have a mom, I have Dad with me.”
And to put the final nail in the coffin for being how cute she was, she turned to you, a happy blush on her cheeks. “And now I have a big sister, too!”
And now to bury the coffin, she turned to everyone. “And I’m having a lot of fun today! I love Junes!”
"... I will die for this child." Jiraiya said seriously. "I will."
"For once, I agree with you frog." Tomoe said.
Even Konohana, the most emotional Persona, started bawling. "Sh-She's the sweetest!"
Izanami tried to comfort Konohana but that even croaked another cry from the pink Persona as her petals fluttered from her shaking.
Looking at your friends, you see that they also share the same sentiment, albeit not as extreme as their Personas. You were pretty sure Yosuke was about to straight up cry though.
Chie smiled at her. "We'll play with you all that you want, Nanako! Just say the word!"
Yukiko piped in. "Yeah, we should hang out more often."
"Nanako-chan!" Yosuke said to her with an easy-going smile. "How about I buy you a drink?"
She nodded gleefully at Yosuke before following him to the drinks stand. It wasn't long before Jiraiya followed them, wanting to watch over Nanako like his life depended on it. The rest of you watched them go away.
"She's a strong girl." Yukiko said after they were out of hearing range.
"Yeah," Chie replied to her, "she makes me feel like I'm the little kid."
"She'll grow up to be a strong woman. I just know it." Tomoe said softly and you couldn't help but linger for a second that Tomoe let her guard down.
Konohana looked at Tomoe then to the direction where Yosuke, Nanako and Jiraiya went. "Do you think Jiraiya may be talking Yosuke's ear off?"
A momentary silence ensued before Tomoe sighed sharply and went to the drinks stand. Konohana soon followed, at least wanting to try and calm down Tomoe. It wasn't long before Yukiko and Chie followed them, not to stop them but to buy something for Nanako.
You have a feeling your friends won't stop spoiling Nanako anytime soon.
"Nanako has them wrapped around her fingers." Izanami said.
You were sure it was a joke. It has to, with how laid-back she is right now.
"You're not going with them?" You asked her.
She paused before she turned to you with her golden eyes. "Not after you tell me what's been bothering you."
You flinched under her gaze, looking away from her piercing stare as you fiddled with your hands. "What do you mean?"
"Do not try and dissuade me. You've been silent ever since you came here with Nanako. Even you aren't immune to her charms."
You struggled to formulate a response. You weren't as eloquent like the books you've read so you can't weasel your way out of her interrogation.
With a sigh, you resigned yourself to your fate as you looked at your Persona. "I'm just… thinking about the case."
She tilted her head. "We think about it all the time."
"No, like-" You said, the temporary flare of frustration creeping up but you held it down. "I just… want to solve this case as soon as possible."
"Hasty decisions lead to dire consequences." She quoted. "We have time to figure out the truth."
"I get that, but like…" You trailed off. You suck in a breath before continuing. "I don't want this team to worry even more. We're supposed to be worrying about midterms, for god's sake. Not finding some serial killer on the loose!"
Izanami sharply said your name, reminding you that you were technically by your lonesome in the eyes of others. "I understand how you feel. You are still a child, wrapped up in responsibilities that shouldn't even be on your shoulders."
She then looked down, looking like she was mulling over on what else to say before staring at you straight in the eyes. "But you have friends that care for you, even a family to care for you. And you still have me."
For what felt like hours, you stared back into those golden eyes. They seemed to shine even brighter than before and you don't know if that was the watery sensation you're getting in your eyes.
"You still have us," She continued, "you're not alone in this."
You blinked away, trying to fight back the tears before nodding at her. "... Thanks."
She let out an amused huff before turning her head to hear footsteps coming towards your table. Nanako came back with a carefree smile on her face.
"Do you want something too?"
Thou art I… And I am thou…
Thou hast established a new bond…
It brings thee closer to the truth…
Thou shalt be blessed when creating Personas of the Justice Arcana…
Persona Time
After bidding goodbye to your friends, you, Izanami, and Nanako went back home. The little girl now has a little baggie full of snacks provided by all of your friends. You wondered briefly if her teeth would be alright with all of the sweets they bought for her but she comforted your fears by saying she won’t eat them all the time.
That being said, that didn’t stop her from eating a choco cornet. The chocolatey filling made her squeal in happiness as she savored the pastry. You two went around the shopping district, not quite ready to go home yet when the sun is still high. You thought about attempting the Mega Beef Bowl Challenge again but it wouldn’t be worth it when it wasn’t raining.
Right now, you looked at the shops, eyes lingering on an old textile shop. Recalling the news last time, there was a brawl that happened in front of the store because some punks were causing a ruckus. It was at that moment when…
“Hey,” Nanako said softly, “there’s a funny-looking guy at that shop.”
The lady’s son stood in front of the textile shop like he was protecting it from anything harmful. His bleached hair made him stand-out from the passersby as his daunting stature made him look like he was a part of a syndicate. If the news didn’t slip that he was a year under you, you would’ve kept your guard up.
You tugged on Nanako’s hand. “Let’s steer clear from that guy, okay?”
She muttered an ‘okay’ before following you. Izanami stepped ahead of you two, cleaver in her hands in case of anything that could happen. You and Nanako hurried to the nearest bus stop, trying to avoid any eye contact from him as Izanami stood guard.
For a moment, you were about to be away from the first-year before somebody stopped you. An arm darted out in front of you, belonging to an older man that you’ve no doubt want to punch his teeth in if not for a child in the vicinity.
“What’s the rush?” He slurred and you recoiled back from his breath. You quickly placed Nanako behind you as Izanami raised her cleaver.
“Leave us alone.” You spat, not bothering to give him the time of day. You tried to dodge him but that led to him sidestepping back in front of your vision. You felt Nanako shiver from behind you as you glared at the man. Izanami swung her cleaver back, ready to maim.
"No need to be afraid! I'm gonna take real good care of you two--"
Before he could even finish his sentence, a fist came and clocked him clean in the jaw. Nanako gasped, you pulled her closer as you followed the fist to see the bleach-haired first year staring down at the pervert like he was scum.
"How many times do I gotta tell ya?!" The first-year spat, kicking his foot towards the man's chest as he doubled-over in pain. "If I see ya here one more time, it won't be just your face that's gonna get a beat-down!"
The man couldn't even respond, seeing from the odd angle of his jaw. He hurried to his feet and ran away from you, not even looking back.
Beside you, Izanami lowered her cleaver. "That was… an event."
You nodded at her before looking down at Nanako. She was still shaking but not as much as before. She didn't even realize her choco cornet had been squeezed too much, the chocolate filling already staining her clothes.
But it looked like she didn't mind. Instead, she looked at the first-year with a wide-eyed smile. "Thanks mister for beating him up!"
Like a lightswitch, he immediately turned into a blushing mess. He stumbled with his words, looking away from Nanako as he stuffed his hands into his pants pockets.
"Sh-Shut up! I didn't do it for you!"
Ah, so he's that type.
"Thanks still, for chasing him away." You said to him, smiling softly. "We owe you one."
He choked. "You ain't owin' me nothin'!"
Your lips quirked upwards at his real demeanor, wanting to tease him even more but he was still a punk that socked someone without hesitation. You still had Nanako behind you and a pile of books that you need to study for midterms.
“Thanks anyway. Stay safe.” You said to him earnestly before walking to the bus stop. Nanako lagged behind a bit, looking back at the bleached boy with a smile.
“Goodbye, strong man!”
Izanami was the only fortunate soul to witness a boy combust to the ground.

What’s your opinion on each of the sdr2 boys? you don’t have to answer but I’d like to hear it so if ya want...
Well, since you posted how you feel about the SDR2 girls’ writing, how would you rank the SDR2 boys’ writing?
Oh man, one of these asks is so old but you’ll forgive me, right?
So, I’ll do both of these!!! The ranking btw is for the writing not personal feelings which I hope comes across because even if a guy’s at the bottom, that definitely doesn’t make him the worst boy!!! I swear! I SWEAR!!!!!!
Good Tier
Kuzuryuu - Definitely the most solid with development and everything. Wish it wasn’t piggybacking off of fridging Peko (and his sister), but ngl I’m always kind of a sucker of the shitty tough guy learning to mellow the fuck out, and I like Kuzuryuu also being like...probably the most mature of the characters, which is sad but also funny. (Overall opinion is that he’s good! Very good! Definitely worthy of Best Boy title if he’s your type!)
Komaeda - My boyyyyyy. Super intricate and interesting with a worldview that’s both simplistic and complex. I love him so, so much. And his attraction to Hinata is humanizing! Love that! Unfortunately, he’s still super demonized and having that happen to your character who is explicitly mentally ill is super uncool. Also, while I do like how and why he decided to die, I don’t feel like that death was worth him getting cut out and used as a prop for Nanami. If he had been kept alive, it would’ve been way better and less urghhhhhh. Or we could’ve, should’ve had more introspection as a result of the impact his character had, similar to what I wished for with Mikan. But, nah. Fuck changing your view as the result of being challenged, I guess. (Overall opinion is that I would die for him.)
Kamukura - Is being included because yes. He only appears briefly, but what’s there is just so interesting and good! He’s an empty person who is only driven by spite and revenge against those who wronged him, and yet it’s also implied that deep down, he doesn’t want to die. It’s so sad! But intriguing! His motivations are clarified in dr0 (such as the fact that he was framed by Junko for the murders of the student council, but also with the added implied bit that even HPA was prepared to kill him in order to cover their ass), but even so, it’s so deeply tragic that Kamukura was made for the sake of ego (both Hinata’s ego and the ego of HPA), and he found himself getting used which lead to him willing risk his existence to take down everything in one fell swoop despite that not being a guarantee. Wahhhh. (Overall opinion is that it sure is a shame WE DON’T SEE HIM EVER AGAIN, not counting TDP.)
Could’ve Been Okay But URGH Tier
Hinata - My other boy. He sure is the other boy. In all seriousness, Hinata *is* probably my personal fave of the protagonists even if I think the Naegis are better written. I love his conflict of having such a severe superiority complex that he’s willing to throw out everything about himself in order to live up to it. I love how his desperate need to prove himself is, like, to himself. He’s so self-centered in such interesting ways. Unfortunately Nanami is his prop and is given the emotional brunt of forcing his development, which sucks. (Overall opinion is that he’s definitely Kodaka’s self-insert but it’s free real estate when writing fics so he’s MY SELF-INSERT NOW.)
Twogami - THE BEST ENBY. Twogami was such a good character with several layers of tragedy and tbh they’re a major reason why it’s great that no one actually dies in sdr2 besides Nanami. There’s something about not having any identity to call your own so you try to be someone important but like...it’s painfully obvious you aren’t that person because you have strong morals and a good heart which powerful people often don’t have due to detachment and corruption. It’s something I can relate to. And as a character, that they gave their life to protect Komaeda was so heartbreaking. It’s such a good thing Twogami isn’t actually dead! Sadly though we do have issues with the writing because fat character obsessed with food, haha, but... I mean Twogami’s the only one like that in dr and Owari’s the same way for the same reason so I guess it’s not the worst...still iffy though. (Overall opinion is that they’re good! However due to being the first victim, they’re not given a LOT of complexity and what complexity they have doesn’t hold a candle to bby girl Sayaka Maizono but I mean they’re still a good character for what’s there.)
Just URGH Tier
Tanaka - Lmao, unpopular opinion alert but I just don’t think he’s very good! For one thing, he’s kinda...barely there for the longest time. He’s even the only character who has zero speaking lines in the first scene with the entire class. There are at least a few scenes where he contributes very little to the conversation. In general, he has little to offer until about Chapter 4, in which he makes up lies about how totally important he thinks survival is when that wasn’t really a major concern of his before and I’m PRETTY SURE he stole that from Nidai anyway. Super annoying but like, hey. At least that romantic subplot was okay. And, sure, if you like this character type, you could do worse. You could also do better. (Overall opinion is that I like his hamsters but that’s about it.)
Teruteru - He’s absolutely the most loathsome fucker that deserves more shit kicked out of him than any amount of sympathy, bUT... This is about writing, not about likability, and like, he’s written...okay. For one thing, his creepiness isn’t excused nor elaborated on, thank fucking god. But as for what’s actually there, it’s at least something. He’s got actual character traits that could potentially make him interesting, such as his shame about his background despite clearly holding a lot of love for it. Like, that’s a good internal conflict to have. If that was all there was, I’d be pretty partial towards him, especially with his design being very cute. Alas.................... (Overall opinion is that Kamishiro’s better.)
Souda - The comic relief for dgrp tends to be mean-spirited and of the guys, Souda is more comic relief than character so he tends to be a fucking asshole and a creep. It’s a shame because his backstory’s sympathetic but the dude has like, no character arc. He’s just...lucky in that he wasn’t killed. He also kind of forces himself into the social situations, namely with Hinata and Sonia which isn’t really cute when Souda doesn’t treat either of them that well. If you like his character type, eh... You can do much, MUCH better when it comes to bro-y kinda abrasive best dude friends. Again, you can do worse, but those are usually romantic comedies not like...whatever dgrp is. I don’t think I’d say that I hate him though. He’s just frustrating. (Overall opinion is that I think Yosuke Hanamura is more what this character should’ve been like.)
Nidai - I do adore Nidai but it’s so obvious that the writing doesn’t give a shit about him. It’s pretty painful. He’s inconsistently portrayed too, because sometimes he’s a compassionate and surprisingly perceptive guy who encourages others to push past their potential. Other times he’s a bumbling oaf who barely considers others because it’s more comedic. Any depth he could’ve had is often just relegated to shit jokes, figuratively and literally. Even his FTEs are painfully repetitive. Sucks, man. (Overall opinion is...me just sobbing.)

souyo, 28: as a lie. bonus if not angst!
I didn’t quite fulfill your request for it not to have any angst, but I hope you enjoy this anyway ^^
Yosuke’s phone buzzed in his pocket and he pulled it out to read the message.  “Here,” it simply stated, and Yosuke checked at the time on top of his phone and shook his head.  Yu was yet again on time for their meet up while he was still minutes away. He had to admit, being only a few minutes late and not having to rush like he did in his youth was an improvement, but it still figured Yu would be exactly on time.
Yosuke let out a little chuckle as he slid his phone into his pocket and picked up his pace anyway. He and his partner may be roommates, but it didn’t stop Yosuke from feeling excited every time they met up.  They hadn’t seen each other all day due to being in completely opposite tracks in college and Yosuke was looking forward to the movie they were going to together.  As he approached the movie theater, Yosuke slowed down his pace as he spotted his partner up ahead.  Yu was being approached by a very attractive looking woman who had two friends obviously watching the interaction and whispering to each other nearby.  She had a slim figure and long, sleek looking hair and had flashed him a warm, confident smile upon her approach.
Yosuke felt an odd thrum in his chest at the sight, but he was honestly pretty used to it by now.  Back in high school Yu had also been popular, and in college things hadn’t changed at all.  Yosuke wanted to give him a chance in case he was interested, although after watching for several minutes Yosuke began to pick up on a few things which indicated otherwise.  Yu had the polite, reserved half smile on his face that he used when trying to placate people, and he had subtly moved away from her in order to give them a little bit of distance.  His body was also stiff, indicating he didn’t really like the attention.  Yosuke took that as his cue to come to the rescue, and he headed over to intercept them.
In the process of walking up to the two of them, an idea suddenly popped into his head, and instead of slinging his arm over his shoulder and asking for an introduction as he normally would have, he instead swooped in to plant a kiss on Yu’s cheek.  Out of the corner of his eye he saw the woman’s eyes widen, and he heard audible gasps from the two onlookers.  Yu also looked surprised for a moment, although he quickly masked it in order to play along.  “Hey, sorry I kept you waiting,” he said, before turning his head and pretending to notice the young woman.  “Oh, was I interrupting something?” he asked, looking between both of them.
“N-no, I was just asking for directions,” she quickly replied, obviously flustered, and she gave a quick bow.  “Sorry to trouble you.”  She then rushed over to her friends and the three of them not so subtly glanced back at them before rushing back into the theater.
Once they were out of earshot, Yosuke burst into a fit of laughter.  “That was such a lame lie, huh partner?” he asked, looking over at Yu and upon seeing his expression his laughter died out.  “Everything ok?” he asked.  Yu’s jaw was clenched and he obviously looked uncomfortable; since that girl had left, it was obvious it could only be because of him.
“I don’t like it when kisses are lies,” Yu replied slowly, and Yosuke could tell by the way Yu refused to meet his eyes how much it upset him.
“Oh I…I’m sorry I didn’t mean…” Yosuke stammered, feeling an embarrassed blush cross his face.  He really hadn’t thought something like a playful kiss to the cheek would upset his partner so much, and it had been awhile since he had made such an ass of himself.
Yu let out a sigh.  “Yeah, I know,” he flatly replied.  “You didn’t mean it.”
Yosuke felt like there was some hidden meaning behind Yu’s word choice, but he couldn’t quite figure it out. Before things could get too awkward, though, Yosuke quickly reached out and placed a hand on his partner’s arm. Yu finally looked at him, eyes a turmoil of emotion although Yosuke could tell he was trying to get himself back under control.  “You know I wouldn’t intentionally do anything to hurt you, right?” Yosuke asked, and some of the tension seemed to drain out of Yu’s shoulders.  He nodded his head.  “I totally get it and will respect those boundaries going forward,” Yosuke replied sincerely.  He then gave Yu a small grin.  “Also, you have permission to hit me if you need to.”
Yu let out a light laugh at that, and he patted Yosuke’s hand where it rested on his arm before shaking his head.  “It wasn’t that dire,” he replied, and Yosuke breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Good, because that hurt last time,” he complained, pulling his hand away.  He didn’t sling his arm around Yu’s shoulder like usual, deciding it better to give him space, but he did excitedly begin talking about the movie that he had been looking forward to.  Yu listened intently, as he always did, and Yosuke felt like they could put whatever had just happened behind them.
Not long afterward, they both end up at a party hosted by the outdoors club that Yu was a part of. Yu had mainly joined since it gave him an excuse to go fishing, but the club did go on some pretty neat trips and they were always allowed to bring a guest along which suited him just fine; he enjoyed getting to bring Yosuke to see the outdoors.  Both of them ended up splitting up – Yu had been dragged off by a few of the club members who seemed really excited about something, which had left Yosuke by himself.  They were both a little tipsy by this point, and without Yu Yosuke couldn’t help but feel a bit lonely.  “It’s rare to see you without your roommate,” a voice interrupted him, and Yosuke looked up in surprise to see one of the upperclassmen in the club eying him, red cup in hand.
“Oh, yeah, I guess you guys are used to seeing us together,” Yosuke said with a small laugh.  Mayumi was aptly named and was definitely beautiful, although she almost seemed unaware of her attractiveness and the effect it had on people.  She was friendly enough and had talked to him a few times on various trips, but she always had a cool vibe to her that caused her to feel unapproachable.  Yosuke was honestly surprised she was taking the time to speak to him right now; she usually stuck to the other members her age.
“Are you planning on going on the ski trip later this month?” she asked, taking a sip of her drink and carefully adjusting her hair so it all fell over one shoulder.  Yosuke felt his eyes trained on the movement, and it took a moment for his inebriated brain to realize he had been asked a question.
“Oh, I’m not sure yet. I have something going on with the radio club about that time,” he replied.
Her eyes lit up.  “Oh, yes.  I do enjoy hearing your segments on the radio,” she said, leaning forward a little. “I love hearing your band recommendations especially – it’s really broadened my horizons when it comes to music.”
Yosuke was surprised by the compliment; he knew that people listened to his radio shows and he occasionally got letters from listeners, but he had never had someone outside of the club talk to him about it in person before.  “Really?” he asked, feeling flattered.
“Yes.  Why don’t we go somewhere a bit more private so I can hear more?” she suggested, placing a hand on his arm.
Yosuke wasn’t sure why, but he suddenly felt uncomfortable and he pulled away.  “Ah, sorry, but I don’t want to go too far in case my pa…I mean, Yu comes back.”  Yosuke had caught some odd stares and misunderstandings due to his pet name for Yu, so he had grown more careful about saying it on campus in order to avoid causing confusion.  Sometimes he wondered if not using it upset his roommate, although he honestly mainly had stopped because he didn’t want his partner to have it affect him at school. Yosuke took another sip of his drink, feeling uneasy and even more lightheaded.
She pursed her lips for a moment, before her body relaxed and she gave him an encouraging smile.  “We don’t have to go too far and he can always message you if he’s looking for you, right?” she asked, leaning in a bit closer and looking at him with a wide, unassuming gaze.  She was leaning in uncomfortably close, and Yosuke felt himself taking a step back while unsure at what to say.  He didn’t quite get what was going on and wasn’t used to getting this kind of attention.
Before Yosuke could say anything, he was overcome by a familiar, comforting scent, and seconds later his partner was leaning in front of him and pressing their lips together. Yosuke took in a sharp breath in surprise, causing the kiss to turn open mouthed which also seemed to shock Yu for a moment, although he quickly recovered by lightly sucking the bottom of Yosuke’s lip before pulling away.  Yu’s eyes bore into Yosuke’s for a moment, and Yosuke felt his heart hammering in his chest over how intent his gaze was, before Yu reached down to grab his hand and began pulling him away.  “Partner?” Yosuke asked in surprise, feeling relief as Yu took him farther away from his upperclassman.
Yu didn’t say anything, although the tense set of his shoulders and tight grip of his hand told Yosuke more than words would.  Once they had melted into the crowd and were no longer visible by Mayumi, Yu abruptly dropped Yosuke’s hand and kept his back to him.  “Yu?” Yosuke asked, reaching forward for him, but before he could touch him Yu flinched away.
“I’m sorry,” he simply replied before melting into the crowd and disappearing.
Yosuke felt himself sobering up in his panic, and he quickly pushed through the crowd of students after him. Yu somehow managed to slip away, however, and after Yosuke had checked the whole house where the party was being held, only carefully avoiding the area where he spotted Mayumi, he pulled out his phone to call his partner.  The phone went straight to voicemail so Yosuke began to send him a frantic series of text messages as he rushed out of the house.  It was a student house that was right outside campus, and Yu and Yosuke’s apartment was on the other side.  Yosuke picked up his pace and began sprinting back to the dorm, heart pounding in his chest as confused thoughts washed over him.  He figured Yu had kissed him to get him out of the situation, just like Yosuke had a few weeks ago to him, but something about the kiss felt different and hadn’t Yu mentioned that he didn’t like kisses that were lies?
Although Yosuke was out of breath, he didn’t let himself slow down his pace, pushing even though his lungs were burning and not letting up even when he saw their apartment in the distance.  He dashed up the stairs two at a time before making his way to their door.  Yosuke panted for breath as his shaky hands pulled out the keys to their apartment, and he had to fiddle with them for several long minutes until his hands finally steadied enough for him to unlock the door. Yosuke opened it up and stepped inside, eyes darting around for any sign of his partner.  “Yu?” he called, feeling unsettled by how quiet it was inside.  He rushed through the apartment, legs shaky from his nerves and the mad dash across campus; he honestly hadn’t run like that since his second year in high school and wasn’t conditioned for it anymore. Once he confirmed the apartment was indeed devoid of his roommate, Yosuke sank to the floor, worry flooding him. Yu had only cut himself off from him once before, back during that dark November, and he didn’t like it.
Yosuke began texting him again, feeling frustrated when he got no response, before texting their friends to see if any of them knew of his whereabouts.  Finally, he got a response from Rise letting him know that Yu was at her apartment and would be staying the night.  She advised him to swing by in the morning to pick him up.  Yosuke felt his phone tumble out of his hands, and he couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed, although it was mixed with relief that Yu was ok and in good hands.  Why would Yu go to Rise instead of talking to him about it though?  Weren’t they partners?  Yosuke tried his best to keep his temper in check, suddenly remembering Yu’s intense gaze when he had pulled away, causing his breath to suddenly catch in his chest.  Maybe it was better they both cooled off first before discussing whatever had just happened.  Yosuke again remembered Yu’s words, “I don’t like it when kisses are lies,” and he brought his fingers up to his bottom lip which tingled slightly as Yosuke remembered what it felt like to have Yu’s lips lightly sucking on it.  Yosuke’s face flushed and he came to a sudden realization.
“I hope…that wasn’t a lie,” he whispered, feeling uncomfortable as he suddenly began to realize the possible reason for Yu’s reaction when he had done the same.  “God, I really am an idiot,” he choked out, before hanging his head. He began to get other texts back, asking if anything was going on with Yu, and Yosuke quickly messaged back that he had found him and everything was fine.  He didn’t want the others getting involved in their business until they talked it out face to face.  Yosuke ran a hand over his face before getting up, deciding he may as well try to sleep so he could have some energy to face Yu in the morning.
Yosuke managed to get a few restless hours in before waking up much earlier than usual, sending a quick text to Rise to make sure they would both be up before making his way over. She, due to her idol schedule, was always up early, and let him know that it would be ok and that she was looking forward to seeing him.  Yosuke couldn’t help but feel uneasy as he got ready; while he was usually happy to see Rise, a small part of him was still jealous Yu had gone to her instead of facing him.  He also didn’t know what to expect when he faced Yu, and his feelings were still a jumbled mess.  On the train ride to Rise’s high-rise apartment, Yosuke was full of nervous energy and kept jiggling his leg as he stared out the window with his arms crossed. He had his headphones on in order to disconnect himself from the others on the train, but was unable to bring himself to listen to anything in his agitated state.  He kept playing the interaction from last night over and over again in his brain and what Yu’s intentions could be.
Finally, the train came to a stop, and Yosuke got up before getting off.  It was early in the morning on a Sunday, so the train was pretty quiet compared to what he was used to.  He appreciated not being squeezed in between people and having a bit of time to breathe on his way over though.  He soon reached Rise’s apartment, using the code to ender the lobby area before pulling out the card key she had given him to use the elevator that would take him to her floor.  Yosuke shoved his hands in his pockets as it brought him up, the elevator ride far too short and leaving him unprepared for when the door slid open and he stepped into the hallway.  Within a few steps, he was at Rise’s door, and he lightly knocked to let them know he had arrived.  He technically had the code on his phone since Yu and Yosuke often would house site while Rise was touring, but he didn’t want to barge inside in light of the current circumstances.  Yosuke only had to wait nervously for a few seconds before the door opened to reveal Rise who was giving him an encouraging smile.  Yosuke felt some of his earlier annoyance melt away.  “Hey Yosuke-sempai, how are you feeling?” she asked, stepping aside so he could come in.  He stepped in before slipping out of his shoes.  “You look a little rough – almost as bad as Yu-sempai.”
“I’ve been better,” Yosuke agreed with a small laugh.  “Where is he?”
“Cowering in the guest room,” she said with a click of her tongue.  “Wait in the dining room – I ordered something for our breakfast this morning. I’ll go grab him, ok?”
Yosuke nodded, before making his way to the dining room area, his stomach notably growling when he saw the spread of breakfast pastries on the table.  He realized he hadn’t eaten dinner last night due to everything that had happened and was starved.  He also saw a drink from his favorite coffee place with his name unmistakably written on it and he couldn’t help but let out a small smile as he picked it up and took a sip.  It was prepared exactly the way he liked it, and he shook his head before feeling guilty about being jealous earlier.  Rise really was a sweetheart and a good friend.
Yosuke’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of house slippers sliding on the floor, and he turned his head to see Yu walk into the room, head bowed down.  Rise was staying back in the living room to give them some space, although Yosuke was well aware of the fact she would be able to overhear their conversation from there.  He had a feeling she already had talked it over with Yu though and probably had a better grasp of what was going on than either of them.  “How are you feeling?” Yosuke asked, noticing the dark bags under Yu’s eyes.  It looked like he had even more trouble sleeping than Yosuke had.
“I’ve been better,” he replied, causing Yosuke to snort before letting out a small laugh.  Yu gave him a disgruntled look before Yosuke explained.
“I said the same exact thing when Rise asked me a moment ago,” he saiid, before handing Yu his drink and a plain croissant.  Yu hesitated before taking them, looking Yosuke in the eyes as he did so.
“I’m sorry,” he started, and Yosuke let out a sigh before motioning for him to sit down.
“That’s what you said yesterday too,” he replied, taking the seat at the end of the table next to Yu so they would be cattycorner to each other. He grabbed a chocolate croissant and took a bite before looking at Yu again.  “What exactly are you sorry about?” he asked pointedly.
Yu opened and closed his mouth for a moment before closing his eyes.  When he reopened them, they looked clear and resolved, and Yosuke felt his heart warm at the sight.  He always felt like he could follow Yu anywhere when he got that expression in his eyes. “I am sorry I kissed you without making sure it’s something you wanted first,” he said honestly.  “And that I ran away afterward instead of facing you.” He sounded truly regretful over his actions, and Yosuke felt all the tension he had been feeling since last night melt away.
“So…that kiss.  It wasn’t a lie?” he asked hopefully.
Yu shook his head.  “I wouldn’t kiss you if I didn’t mean it,” he replied truthfully, and a wide grin broke out on Yosuke’s face.
“Thank God,” he said, relief flooding through him.  Yu stared at him in confusion while Yosuke gave him a wide grin.  “I was hoping you’d say that.”
“You mean…” Yu asked slowly, disbelief crossing his face.
“Ugh, you both are such idiots!” Rise complained from the other room, and Yu and Yosuke couldn’t help but laugh at the sudden interruption.
“You don’t have to wait out there anymore,” Yosuke called, and Rise quickly rushed into the room, a wide smile on her face.
“So, you’re both finally facing your feelings, are you?” she asked as she sat down across from Yu on Yosuke’s other side.  She leaned forward excitedly with a twinkle in her eye.
“Yeah, I do believe we are,” Yosuke said.  “Although to be honest for me this came a little more suddenly than it must have for partner…”
Yu then buried his head in his arms on the table, seeming to lose his strength.  “Am I dreaming?” his muffled voice asked, and Rise shook her head while Yosuke reached out to place a gentle hand on his head.  It wasn’t the first time he had touched him like that, but it certainly didn’t happen often and Yosuke marveled at how silky Yu’s hair was.
“You’re not dreaming,” he said, voice fond, and Yu turned his head to look up at him.
“I was jealous,” he admitted.  “I knew that Mayumi-san had a crush on you – she was always seeking you out and trying to flirt with you on other trips,” he confessed.  Yosuke was shocked by the admission, for until she approached him last night he had been completely unaware.  “When the others pulled me away, they admitted Mayumi-san had asked them to because she wanted a chance to speak to you alone.  And…” Yu trailed off.  “I couldn’t help but go back to watch.  I didn’t want to interfere in case you ended up liking her but…you looked so uncomfortable.  Before I knew it I was stepping in.”
“I think it was the same with me,” Yosuke admitted.  “Just…I was way less aware.  I saw the girl talking to you and I think I did feel jealous for a moment but I was so used to that kind of thing happening I didn’t think anything of it?  Then you looked so uncomfortable that I was stepping in and kissing your cheek before I could think about it.”
“That’s what happened?” Rise asked with a gasp, before turning to look at Yu.  “You didn’t include that part when you spoke to me! I could have told you Yosuke-sempai liked you, jeeze, you can be so dense sempai…”
Yu blushed.  “I thought Yosuke would be embarrassed if I said anything…” he admitted.
“You know Yosuke-sempai isn’t the type of person to do something like that unless he likes them,” Rise said with an eyeroll.  “Even if he doesn’t realize it because he’s a dense idiot too.”
“Hey!” Yosuke protested, and Rise gave him a pointed look.  Yosuke shut his mouth and looked sheepishly at her.
“Well, now that you two have made up, let’s enjoy breakfast,” she said, reaching for a bagel and some cream cheese before giving them both a pleased smile.  Yu and Yosuke gratefully smiled back, before Yosuke reached over and casually placed his hand over Yu’s, threading their fingers together as he returned his attention to his coffee and chocolate croissant.  Yu looked over at him, a light blush on his cheeks and eyes full of open adoration before he pulled up their clasped hands, pressing a warm kiss on Yosuke’s knuckle and causing the brunet to turn a bright, fiery red out of embarrassment.  He didn’t let go or protest, even under the amused scrutiny of their idol friend, and instead tried to pretend he was cool and casual about it.
Yu looked happy as he took a sip of his tea and picked up his croissant, his heart finally at ease.  He no longer had to fret about someone taking his partner away from him, and he could finally be open and honest about his feelings.  Today was truly the happiest in his life.

[AO3] [WATTPAD]
"Wooooow, this is a really nice place!"
"Hmph," Ebihara grunted as they stepped out of their shoes in the genkan of her fabulous home. "It's a goddamn McMansion. Really nothing special, trust me. But we sure did pay a lot for it…"
For good reason. Rise smiled vaguely as she glanced around at the grand foyer with the statue and water feature in opposite corners. She had seen many similarly opulent homes when cavorting with other contacts from the entertainment industry, of course, so she wasn't quite as blown away as most of their friends would have been. But it was still impressive.
"You don't like it?" she asked.
"I don't like being nouveau-riche. And this big house seemed really cool when we first got it, but now it's… oh, listen to my ungrateful ass complaining about being too rich. It's disgusting."
"Go ahead," she prompted her as they both padded into the sunken living room. "I've been through some of the same things, don't forget."
Ai didn't do as her friend asked until they were both flopped down on the couch, staring around at the pristine surroundings. "Well… it's always been too big. I feel lost. And now with mom gone, it's like a big tomb holding the decaying corpse of our family."
"Yeesh," Rise hissed. "Gross mental picture. But it definitely gets the message across. Have you talked to your dad about it?"
"Oh, I couldn't bother him with that nonsense," she said with a slight smile. "He's dealing with investment bankers and stock options all day. Doesn't have time for me to be anything besides his perfect little princess, so… that's what he gets. Every time."
Frowning hard, Rise turned a little more in her direction, folding her legs beneath her trim frame. "That doesn't sound right. Come on, he's your father. He's going to want to know if something is up with you."
"No," she said firmly. "I have put both of them through enough for one lifetime."
"Yeah, you kind of said something like that before, and it sounded like bullshit then, too. We all get to figure out who we are as we grew up. You don't have to be perfect immediately! So why would they hold it against you just because you were a little bit of a brat?"
Ai's resting bitch face took on a new quality. Pain. Her hand drifted up to play with the neckline of her pretty pink dress as she gazed at the glass coffee table in front of them. Rise couldn't know what she was thinking, but it looked like a lot was weighing on her mind regardless.
"Oh, who cares?" Ai finally burst out with a long sigh, stretching all her limbs out and hooking her arms over the back of the couch. "It's all so pointless. I threw myself into fashion and makeup and all those things, and I was so unhappy, and now here I am being ungrateful that I actually have someone to talk to for real instead of just 'peasants' at school to subjugate. What a moron I am."
Rise giggled a little, covering her mouth before she said, "You're not a moron. You just don't have it all figured out. Look at me, slumming it in Inaba instead of facing my career; I'd say that makes me even worse than you."
"What's so funny?" she demanded when her friend was still giggling.
"Oh, nothing. Just that you really look like Yosuke in that position. With the apathetic attitude and everythi- OH!"
So fast she almost wondered if she had imagined it, Ai was sitting up in a prim and proper position, legs together and fists resting on her knees. Her face also looked almost as if she were panicking… but why? Nothing had happened.
"Ebi-chan…?"
"Sorry. I'll do better." But when she glanced over and saw Rise was still looking confused, she cleared her throat and waved one hand back and forth in the air, as if wafting away an unpleasant aroma. "I-it's nothing, I promise."
The popstar dipped her head and whispered, "Hey, I know we've only been hanging out for like, hours instead of days, but you can talk to me. You know that, right?"
"Yeah. You're annoyingly persistent with that." But before Rise could protest, she poked her in the middle of the forehead with a slight smirk before pushing to stand from the couch. "This sucks. Unless you want to watch the big screen TV, we should get something from the kitchen and head up to my room."
"I guess. What do you have?"
They both wandered in there and nosed around. The kitchen was a gleaming bastion of modern efficiency, lots of chrome and marble, but the fridge didn't seem to have a whole lot inside: a few drinks and some takeout. So they grabbed beverages and a bag of shrimp chips from the cupboard, plus their bags of goodies from shopping, and headed upstairs, figuring it was better than nothing.
"Oh wooooow, this is so, so…"
"Yes," Ai sighed. "So pink."
Indeed it was. Literally everything that was capable of being pink in that bedroom had been given that treatment, from bed sheets to carpets to walls. At least most of it was a very pale shade, so it wasn't so lurid as to be painful on the eyes. Ai seemed to have a wardrobe in addition to an actual closet, and had her own entertainment system with a smaller TV and a couple of old game systems.
Wait…
"Hey, whoa, you have video games?!"
"What? Oh, I- w-wait, nobody was supposed to see those!" Ai hissed, grimacing and taking a step forward as if she could suddenly hide the consoles from her guest. Not that that was possible, given she was already in the room and had seen them.
"I haven't played one of these since they put me in Karaoke Retribution. Wow, you have Famidrive, Super Famidrive, Joystation…" Rise started looking through the games, and her host fell silent. Eventually, she said, "You sure do have a lot of RPGs and sports titles. What's…?"
But when she looked over her shoulder, she saw Ai looked extremely uncomfortable and ashamed, staring down the carpet as her toes scrunched in its fibers. Why did she look so stressed? Eventually, she made her best guess and put the games back, turning from the floor to look up at her more properly.
"Sorry. That's… my bad, I shouldn't have just started pawing through your collection without even asking. Sorry." She even bowed a little.
"Oh… it, um, it's fine. And those are really old, I haven't even played all of them."
"We don't have to talk about that." Privately, Rise thought the collection looked meticulously cared for, and there wasn't a speck of dust on any of the consoles or the games. But she didn't want to push the matter because it really seemed like she had done something wrong by drawing so much attention to it.
"Good. They're old and stupid." She cleared her throat. "Do you… want to try on some of my clothes? Or… ugh, I sound like a complete idiot."
But Rise merely stood up and rested a hand on her shoulder. "You've never had anybody over here, right? Haven't made many friends since you moved. I get it, it's okay."
Very hesitantly, she squinted at her, swallowed hard, and whispered, "Really? You don't think I'm a lame freak for being nervous about it?"
"No. Now, do you have a CD player?"
"I usually just use my Joystation." Then she froze in place, as if she had caught herself saying something wrong.
"Cool! That works." Maybe if she just acted super casual about everything, it would set her new friend at ease. "Want to put in your CD? That old one."
"I thought you wanted to listen to yours while you were here…"
"Oh, we have time," she giggled with a little bounce, shaking Ai's arm. "Come on, let's set this party off!"
Talked into action, Ebihara rolled her eyes hard. "Well, if you're going to beg I guess I might as well give in." However, Rise could see her cheeks bunching with a smile once she had turned away, grabbing up one of her shopping bags and digging around for the album.
"Let me take a look in here," Rise called out as she skipped over to the wardrobe and threw it open. "Dresses, dresses… you really like dresses."
"All the skirts and capris and whatever are in the closet," she called over to her as she messed around with the console, trying to get music playing. "And most of my blouses. Oh — here we go."
As soon as it started, it was so upbeat and cheesy that Rise burst out in a fit of giggles. But she looked over to check if Ai was offended — she was — so she quickly followed up with, "It's cute! I just haven't listened to old-fashioned music like this in a while."
"Yeah, yeah, you hate it." Suddenly, a patent leather pump hit her in the head. "HEY! The hell are you doing, throwing my shoes? AT ME?!"
"Stop that!" Rise admonished her, already rearing back with the matching pump. "I didn't say you were a loser for listening to it, just that it's not usually my thing. But it's good!"
"I can turn it off, it's no big-" When she saw her taking aim with the other shoe, she raised both hands and set the controller down. "Okay, okay, you monster! We'll let it play."
"Good. Now come over here and play with your own personal Dress Up Rise doll. Do you have any idea how many fans would kill to be in your position?"
Shaking her head, she snorted as she stood up and walked over to join her. "Thought I made it crystal clear I am not a fan. But I guess…" A smile began to take over her features. "Can… I try yours on?"
"Huh? This stuff? I mean, it's nothing special… and you're taller, it could look weird. But you're also really trim and cute, so I guess it might work."
"Cool, thanks. And here — I think you could rock this pretty well." She snatched a red mini dress from the rack in the wardrobe and held it out to her. "I can turn around — or leave the room, if you want."
Rise was already giggling as she began to pull off her blouse. "Why? I'm not shy like that. I mean, only because I trust you not to take pictures; that would piss me off."
Unfortunately, the conversation was temporarily put on hold while Ai stared in wonder as she changed right in front of her. Rise really felt sorry for her; did she really never have any friends at all? It seemed so. Sure, Rise herself didn't take them for granted, either, since her own pool of friendships had been rather thin before she achieved national stardom. But Ai had no one at all. That was such a depressing existence…
"What's the matter?" she finally asked once she had stepped out of her white capris, leaving herself in her underwear and reaching for the dress.
"N-nothing, mind your own business." But the light blush in Ai's cheeks said that she wasn't nearly as comfortable with changing in front of anyone as she wished.
"Okay, sheesh." Then she handed over the capris as she started turning the dress to figure it out. She saw Ai struggling to pull them up beneath her dress and she laughed. "Do you think you're at the beach? You don't have to do that, either."
"What? Is this… is it weird?"
"Well… no, I guess it's not that bad. But you don't have to be so modest; it's not like you don't have anything I haven't seen before in the mirror." Rise laughed.
Ai did not. But it may just have been because she was focusing on not looking completely chagrined. Once she had the capris on, she finally did shuck the dress in one aggravated movement, as if trying to force herself to do it caused the motion to be faster.
"Hey, these are nice," Rise giggled as she poked one of her friend's boobs. The taller girl let out a blast of startled air, then slapped both forearms across her chest. "Aww, she's still shy! You're so cute, Ebi-chan!"
"St-stop harassing me, you pop star pervert!" This time, Rise's laughter was contagious, and they were both giggling as the song changed. This one was a floatier, more romantic number. "Oh…"
As she shimmied the red fabric all the way down her body, situating it in place, Rise asked, "What is it?"
"Nothing." At least this time, that pointed stare was enough to prompt her to try again. "It's… I didn't know… I've heard my mom listen to this. 'Purity'; I remember now."
"Oh. Well… we can change it, or… we can enjoy it?" She paused to take up both of her friend's hands and squeeze them tightly. "Whatever you need."
"No…" A deep breath. "No, it's fine. This is good; it's basically all I have left of her, she never calls anymore." After a few blinks of surprise at herself, she cleared her throat and started to sway their arms back and forth.
"I get you. My parents… well, you probably read all about it. Old news."
"Tell me."
"Well… we broke all contact, too," Rise admitted as they began to turn in a slow circle. "They got really demanding about my career, and it felt like they didn't care about me as a daughter anymore. Just as a source of income and attention. I know I should probably try to make up with them sometime, we all just didn't understand each other very well. But it's… hard."
"I can't imagine. Being disappointed, definitely, but not that level of… I don't know, almost manipulation?"
"Yep. Manipulation is pretty dead on, as much as it sucks to say it."
"Yeah. I…" A couple of quiet seconds of swaying as Ai tried to find her words. At some point, Rise had reached up to rest her hand on her friend's shoulder, and a hand had moved to her own waist. "I think they made a mistake. You've been the most amazing friend I've ever had."
"Give it a few more days," she snickered. "And a few more friends. You only think I'm that great 'cause you haven't had any others lately."
"Like I need them! Tch. You're already best friend material, and I only accept the best. So there's no point in window-shopping around for cheap knockoffs."
Somehow… Ai had made that both sound like she was doing her a favor, and paying her the highest compliment imaginable. It was incredibly sweet in a bizarrely demanding way. Perfectly Ebihara.
Realizing that was what made her also realize they had been slow dancing for a couple of minutes now. Without her heeled sandals, she was even shorter than usual, which meant she had to gaze upward into her tall friend's face to see how she was doing. And when she saw she was staring back…
Ai actually looked content. For once in her life, she looked like she was at peace, just dancing to some old city pop slow jam in her bedroom. She wasn't trying to exploit Rise, wasn't as disinterested as she had once pretended. No, her entire focus was on her, and just because she liked her.
Almost like…
"Careful, cutie," she joked with a dimple-graced grin. "If I didn't know any better, I would say you're hitting on me."
"Hm?" Ai breathed distantly, clearly distracted by her own thoughts.
"It's okay, I'm just being dumb. You're fine, Ebi-chan." She leaned up and pressed a gentle kiss into Ai's cheek before pulling back to bite her bottom lip for a moment. Maybe she was just doing it to be kind… but she also suspected she was doing it because of the slow dance. A tender gesture like that just seemed to suit the song, the mood, the whole moment.
That single peck left her friend speechless again. Rise almost began to say something before she saw her moving, and she held her words for a moment. Wanting to let her hug her or whatever. This was going to be a great growing moment for Ai, and for their friendship. Maybe she would even learn to hug other people! Eventually.
Feeling lips press so delicately at the corner of her mouth threw all of those thoughts out the window. Really, that brief contact changed everything about that moment even more: the hokey old ballad suddenly sounded like pure magic, the club-ready minidress felt more like a ball gown. Rise had literally never felt like this in her entire life — up to and including when she had some of the country's most eligible boy bands and actors fawning over her in the past. Including the many unbelievable adventures she had been on with the Investigation Team.
She felt like she was with Narukami again. But instead of having her advances go unrequited, this was what it would be like if he looked at her the way she looked at him.
If only it wasn't Ai Ebihara standing in front of her, looking at her that way. Now she had a problem. How was she supposed to explain that her interest in her wasn't romantic? They were both girls! That kind of thing just wasn't done in Japan. Sure, she had heard it was more common overseas, and rumours within their own entertainment industry, but that wasn't the same as actually pursuing it for real. But then where were all these feelings coming from?
"Ai…"
The unfortunate coincidence was, her suddenly-very-close friend's name just happened to be pronounced the same way as "love". So whispering it the way she had, regardless of whether she meant to… it carried a certain connotation.
One that did not seem to be lost on Ai herself. Not if the next kiss was any indication. Brief as it was, just barely pressing into her lips before it was gone, it still was a first for both of them. First kiss - as whatever lay beyond the boundaries of friendship.
Temptation to just go for it welled up as Rise slid her hands up along Ai's stomach, perching on her shoulders in a vain attempt to find a grip somehow. To anchor herself within this whirlwind moment. She knew honest surprise was written across her face now; she may have been an actor, but this had caught her so unaware that she couldn't even begin to fabricate responses. Pure, unfiltered Rise.
And now the kiss was over… leaving two very confused teenage girls standing with their hands on each other's bodies, staring back at each other with bewilderment.
"I… wow, that…"
"Rise-ch… I… didn't- that w-wasn't-"
"No, no, I know." Damage control. She smiled, trying to put her friend at ease as she whispered, "Sometimes things happen, we didn't plan… I would never say you…"
Ai licked her lips, shivered. "I didn't. I'm so sorry, was… was that your first, too?"
"M-my first with… a girl… I, um, I did kiss a boy for a drama I was in. But that was just acting." Why was she telling her all this? Was this not acting?
Then what was it?
Suddenly, Ai took a step back, her hands still raised vaguely near her heaving chest as if she were going to pat herself down, or reach for Rise. Though she didn't. "Hey, you have to believe me, I didn't- this was not why I brought you back to my house. I'm not a pervert, I wasn't trying to…"
"Pervert? For a kiss?"
"No, I… for shit that comes after a kiss. In case you thought I was going to try anything funny."
"Oh." Her cheeks flooded with color as she finally realized what her friend was getting at, and she said in a slightly higher timbre of voice, "Whoa! That's- yeah, I definitely wasn't thinking about that! What would we do, anyway? You're so silly, Ebi-chan!"
"Right?! No way!" They both laughed nervously for a second or two, then suddenly cut off at the same time.
"Awkward," Rise muttered with another chuckle.
"You, uh, you can leave if you want to. Since it's awkward. Do whatever you want, I don't care."
Already trying to build up her defense mechanisms again. Rise couldn't stand that; she hated wasting time with important work only for it to be thrown out with the bathwater. So she threw her arms around her new friend in a tight hug, trying to ignore the little tingle in the pit of her stomach that told her this meant more than either of them thought it did.
"Stop."
"No."
"Rise… it's… you don't have to do this just to make me feel better. It's weird. I'm fucking everything up."
"You are not! It was only a kiss!"
"But how did it end up like this?" Something familiar about that… but Ai kept pushing ahead, "It has to have been me, because like you said, you've never kissed a girl before. And you do actually have female friends, unlike a bitch like me who doesn't have any at all. And I get one friend, one, and I immediately try to make out with her! Why am I such a fucking head case?!"
"Hey," Rise snapped, "it wasn't like that at all and we both know it. That was like, a wedding kiss, you know? Small and tender, but it didn't lead anywhere crazy. It was sweet."
"Really?" she asked urgently, finally meeting her eyes again. "You… you don't hate me for it?"
Laughing, Rise leaned up to pick her on the lips again. This time, she made sure the contact was so brief that it couldn't possibly develop into anything more — which was now something they had to be worried about, apparently.
"If I hated you, would I do it again?"
"Mhhh…" The other girl closed her eyes, trying to ignore a wave of some emotion that passed through her. Then, smiling, she whispered, "Thank you."
"Hey, you're welcome. Not everybody can say they got a kiss from Risette!" When she giggled, the smile on her friend's face got a little wider, even if her cheeks were still flushed.
The song changed to something a little more upbeat again. The spell was broken. They embraced warmly, then broke apart and started commenting on each other's clothing. Even if the mood didn't totally go back to normal, at least they no longer felt like they were in danger of destroying a friendship that had barely begun.
But the whole time, Rise found herself glancing back at the girl who — had she been that pretty before? — a lot more often than usual. What if they changed everything forever on accident? Maybe it would be okay regardless. She had to hold onto that hope.

Persona  Main Cast Arcana Swap (Spoilers!)
I wasn’t really paying attention to ships and stuff like that while making this, more-so what was interesting to switch. It occurred to me in the planning of the P2 cast that some crushes are canon. But, here we go anyway!
Persona 1
The Emporer - Reiji Kido (Protagonist): A silent boy who lost his older half-brother during his younger years. He carved an X on his forehead using a knife to make sure his parents don’t treat him like he was his brother. The Chariot - Naoya Toudou: The partially-spoiled son of a manga company. An occasional troublemaker, but also a nice person. His crush is in the hospital. The Hierophant - Masao Inaba: A rich young boy who will soon inherit control over a large group of companies called the Inaba Group. He’s spoiled, intelligent and has no tolerance for stupidity of any kind. The Strength - Kei Nanjo: A father-like figure that almost everyone St. Hermelin looks up to. He is an ex-yanki who was reformed by one of his teachers, to whom he has great respect for. The Justice - Yukino Mayuzumi: A girl who likes to make jokes and prank people for attention. Her parents were never really around for her and she was laughed a lot during her childhood. The Hermit - Hidehiko Uesugi: A young boy who has been hospitalized for a little over a year. His childhood friend, Reiji Kido, occasionally visits him and he gets more frequent visits from Naoya Toudou. His father is too busy to visit him. The Judgement - Maki Sonomura: A beautiful and intelligent girl who has come back to Japan from studying abroad. She aspires to travel the world, but wants to stay in her hometown for the rest of her studies. The Magician - Eriko Kirishima: An airheaded girl who hates hearing anything that displeases her. She likes to live in the moment and doesn’t think about her future too much. The Devil - Yuka Ayase: A delinquent who doesn’t have much care for anything or anyone other than her parents, who are poor. She usually plays hard to get but is a really nice person inside.

He rejected his parents constant complaining on how he should be a ‘Traditional Japanese Man’, but he still has a very low self esteem. He goes by the name Michel. The Wheel of Fortune - Maya Amano: A young woman who was the childhood friend of Katsuya. Her parents are both deceased and she works for COOLEST Magazine. All that aside, she’s calm, collected and likes flowers.

Also doesn’t believe many people like him. The Lovers - Ulala Serizawa: A hyper young woman who knows martial arts and is a fan of Bruce Lee. Her parents wanted her to be a ‘Traditional Japanese Woman’, but just like Kaoru, she rejected their wishes.
The Star - Lisa Silverman: A high school girl who has bad luck with men and can never seem to find someone right for her. She’s a professional boxer and also sneaks out to drink, despite being underage.
The Strength - Kei Nanjo: A photographer for COOLEST Magazine who was involved in the SEBEC incident. He works with Maya Amano, and with the help of her and his old teacher, he’s comfortable with who he is now.
Persona 3
The Fool - Aigis/Metis: A high school student who came back to Tatsumi Port Island 10 years after their parents died on the bridge due to a fire. Canon is Aigis, which is female, and optional is Metis, who is male. The Lovers - Minako Arisato: A young bubbly girl who likes big crowds. She’s a popular girl at school, unknowingly, and also stays in the Gekkoukan High Dorms. She has a gun holster on her belt and has a brother. Somewhat loud and “obnoxious”. The Magician - Minato Arisato: A young blunt boy who hates big crowds. He’s a popular boy at school, unknowingly, and also stays in the Gekkoukan High Dorms. He has a gun holster on his belt and has a sister. Reserved and introverted. The Empress - Yukari Takeba: A wealthy individual and next in line to inherit control of the Takeba Group. She’s a very intelligent person and many people look up to her, as she is also the student council president. The Emporer - Junpei Iori: A second year that runs the boxing club at Gekkoukan High. He takes boxing very seriously and also finds it a good stress reliever. He’s determined and courageous, and also a good mentor. The High Priestess - Mitsuru Kirijo: A quite and kept-in girl, she serves as the navigator for SEES. Her best friend would have been found outside Gekkoukan High with Apathy Syndrome if not for her. She’s a bookworm and likes sci-fi. The Hierophant - Akihiko Sanada: A shady third year who hardly shows up at school. He only joined SEES for personal reasons which he refuses to share. Has a soft spot for Fuuka, and is good friends with Junpei. The Justice - Fuuka Yamagishi: A little girl who seems to know Akihiko from her past. She’s well behaned and a good role-model for others her age. Despite being 11, she lives in the Gekkoukan High Dorms. The Chariot - Shinjiro Aragaki: A robot made to destroy shadows. He can only develop human feelings through contact with those feelings. He is enrolled in Gekkoukan High as a second year, despite being a robot and seeming more like a third year.
Persona 4
The Fool - Teddie: A transfer student from Tokyo who came to live with his uncle for a year. He’s very anxious in social situations, and arguments between his friends makes him nervous. Has a weird obsession with bears. The Magician - Rise Kujikawa: A goofy and fun young girl. Her parents are the managers at Junes, and she works part-time there. She’s also in Teddie’s class.
The Chariot - Kanji Tatsumi: An intimidating young boy with martial arts skills. He may be buff but he’s not really aggressive. Suggests eating more meat a lot and is good friends with Rise. The Emporer - Yosuke Hanamura: A badass who was able to take down an entire biker gang by himself. Feared by his classmates, but he is a good person. He likes knitting and has more feminine hobbies, he also questions his sexuality a lot. Despite being skinny, he’s a lot stronger than the buffest one in the group. The Lovers - Yu Narukami: A model who is famous for his cross-dressing and his way to charm crowds. He’s very blunt about his thoughts but he means no harm. He’s a fun person to have around, but he already has a crush.
The Star - Yukiko Amagi: A strange woman who came from the TV world. She makes a lot of puns, albeit sometimes doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and is fascinated with the human world. The Wheel of Fortune - Chie Satonaka: A detective who acted like she was male for most of her life. Is only now getting used to being able to freely act like a woman, and is still coping with her identity. She’s logical and the smartest in the group.
Persona 5
The Fool - Morgana: A young boy who was arrested on false charges and sent to Tokyo for a whole year as ‘probation’. Despite all the rumors surrounding him, he’s a good person and probably the most lenient friend you’ll ever find. The Chariot - Haru Okumura: An ex-track and field runner, she hates how adults think they can just lie their way through life and not have any consequences. A good hearted person with a somewhat goofy attitude. The Magician - Futaba Sakura: A young girl who was found trapped in Kamoshida’s Palace. She eventually decided to come over to the human world and take the guise of Futaba Sakura. Kind of annoying but overall understanding and polite. The Lovers - Akira Kurusu: A young boy who was being sexually abused by Kamoshida, as for a while he kept telling everyone and himself he was female. He eventually came out as a male publicly, despite being a bit nervous about it. A strong-hearted individual. The Emporer - Ryuji Sakamoto: A young painter who seems to think Akira is still a girl, despite him publicly stating he was male. He’s polite but also poor, so he starves himself a lot which explains his slim yet tall figure. The High Priestess - Ann Takamaki (P5)/Kasumi Yoshizawa (P5R): The student council president of Shuujin Academy. She keeps up her polite and obeying act in public, but when she’s with the group she’s an absolute unit that no one dares cross. The Hermit - Goro Akechi: His father runs the coffee shop which Morgana is in, and he also has an obsession with video games. He serves as the navigator for the group. He is reserved and hates going out in public. The Justice - Yusuke Kitagawa: A young and upcoming detective. He may be polite in public, but he’s really a sociopath who will murder anybody and anything that upsets him. The Faith - Ann Takamaki (P5R): An elegant and intelligent young girl, who gets the top score at Shuujin, which is why she was offered a scholarship there. She’s actually very stressed out and often becomes depressed for no reason.

PQ2-Persona 3 Characters
I play this game slowly for a number of reasons: (1) I like drawing games out because I enjoy them more that way and (2) I played it intermittently, put it down when FE3H came out, then picked it up again, then got DLC for TW3K and put it down again etc. etc. I find it an easy game to put down and get back into.
However, I am now at the end, only Enlil remains and the Velvet Rangers. Since I want to complete the game fully I’m now doing the monotonous and boring task of farming the Reaper to get to Lv 89 with Ren so I can Wild Growth my core party to his Level, get Huang Di, and finish off the Velvet Rangers. Seriously though, who thought I’d reach a point where I’m bullying the poor Reaper and getting bored of the fight? He doesn’t even get me halfway to a full level now!
Anyway. So, with the end approaching, I thought I’d do for the P3 cast what I did for the P4 cast. I decided in the end to actually not watch/read anything about P3 or P4 till I finish PQ2, to form opinions based around it purely from PQ2, then once I’m done with it I’ll go watch LP’s of P3 and P4 to see how wrong (or right!) I got things.
Without further ado my feelings towards the P3 cast solely as they are presented in PQ2:
Exceptions:
I’m starting us off with exceptions. What are exceptions? Exceptions are characters who, for whatever reason, I feel their are circumstances that make them difficult for me to really discuss as a fully-fleshed character. They aren’t necessarily bad, but something about them means I don’t really see them as a fully rounded or developed character like the rest.
P3 Protagonist: Like the P4 Protagonist and Ren I just struggle to form any feelings or attachments to this character. I’ve said before I *suck* at self-insertion. I just do. In FE3H my least favourite character is Byleth, wish I could get rid of them, as I find the relationships between characters with more detailed and fleshed out characteristics and dialogue far more interesting. The P3 Protagonist isn’t bad but, compared to the rest, just feels shallow and uninteresting. He also shares the same problem as all four Protagonists in that I am sick and tired of how much their own teams have to constantly shill them like they’re the greatest thing ever. Ugh. It’s the most annoying thing to me about these self-insert characters, everyone has to stop every ten minutes to remind the player how they’re better than everyone and worship the ground they walk on. I hate it. Anyway; so, yeah, ultimately I find the P3 Protagonist, like Ren and the P4 Protagonist, just not as fully developed or realized in PQ2, and so see them as an exception.
Koromaru: He’s a dog. He’s cute, fun, a great mascot, but he doesn’t have detailed characteristics or interesting personality and dynamics with the other members. But he’s a dog, so, that’s not strange. So I see this as an exception.
Favourite:
These are the P3 Characters who I enjoyed most of all in PQ2.
P3 Female Protagonist: So can someone explain to me why the creators decided to give the Female Protagonist alone a detailed personality and demeanour? Not to mention something like double the amount of spoken dialogue as the other protagonists? Unlike Ren and the other two male Protagonists who barely say much at all and are difficult to define personality-wise beyond ‘cool, loved by all, sometimes make sarcastic remarks’ the Female Protagonist is heavily fleshed out: she’s an energetic and over-enthusiastic type, the ‘charge in head’s first’ type who doesn’t show much in the way of the stoic ‘cool’ calm of the others, and is very effusive and evocative in her mannerisms. She’s dealing with an internal feeling of isolation and inferiority, which she tries to hide from others, and is highly sociable in her engagement with her peers. She was a lot of fun and makes a big impact early with her ‘let me dress up as a policewoman and then karate chop this guard out cold’ routine. Her interactions with Futaba early on are great, almost like an older siser, although sadly those do taper off. Junpei and Yukari have quite good interactions with her as well, the most consistent people involved in her ‘am I out of place’ feelings, and I enjoyed that. I was surprised how there is so little interaction between her and her male counterpart though, would have thought that would be a good well of inspiration.
Mitsuru: So what I love about Mitsuru is that she and Makoto are not just clones of each other. With Mitsuru also being a ‘older, colder, intelligent, authoritative’ figure I feared that the two would be very similar. But they aren’t. Mitsuru is vastly more secure in herself and confident than Makoto, who still has severe issues with her self-esteem. Indeed Mitsuru is actually kind of awesome in how confident she is. Similarly whilst Makoto is far more an advisor Mitsuru, quite honestly, comes across as if actually SHE leads the P3 cast and the protagonists are just their trump cards. Mitsuru almost always calls every shot for her team and makes the decisions, with their own respective protagonists usually just providing power. I do also enjoy that Mitsuru seems not to have the ‘I’m smart so the stupid member of our team I will always harass’ trait as her critiques of Junpei tend to purely focus on him not taking their situation to seriously and never go to the point of insulting his intelligence as Morganna does with Ryuji in the vanilla game and Royal. I also really liked Mitsuru’s interactions with Junpei. I know he has a girlfriend, he says so in the game, but I see nothing of her so I’d be lying if I didn’t say I somewhat ship the two after her nervousness inviting him to have tea with her and his desperation to protect her when he found out how hard she was trying to get along with him.
Junpei: Junpei has one thing that Ryuji and Yosuke do not have: confidence. Though Ryuji and Yosuke both front confidence it’s often incredibly easy to see the weak points in their facade and to deflate them. Junpei is able to far better stand his ground even when he’s being belittled. He is definitely more reckless than the two as a result, confidence is a double-edged sword, but he’s learned better than them the lesson of feeling good about himself. I do love how Ren can consistently support his ‘Greatest Detective Ever’ declaration and basically took every chance to do so. He luckily seems to lack any of the perversion tendencies, although as I’ve said in PQ2 the same is true of basically everyone, although I do sorta wish we got a bit more on his girlfriend if she’s so important to him. I get because she won’t appear and you won’t see her the game doesn’t want to waste time on a character we learn nothing about, but at certain points it felt off that Junpei doesn’t comment on her at all.
Interesting:
These are characters I found interesting, easily as interesting as the ones above, but for personal reasons just don’t like quite as much.
Yukari: Oh boy, Yukari. Let’s start with my problem with her before I move on to why I find her so interesting. Put simply Yukari is mean. Whilst with both Ryuji and Yosuke I was pleased to see that despite being the ‘bro’ characters, PQ2 avoided constantly haranguing on them. Not so for Yukari and Junpei, yeesh! Junpei can barely open his mouth without Yukari insulting him, sometimes really rather severely. My problem is that she often insults Junpei just cause he’s too boisterous, or  confident. It just gets...well it gets like Ryuji in the vanilla game or Royal, it feels mean-spirited, particularly since Junpei never reacts by laughing or quipping back, but always by just deflating and sorta whimpering. I didn’t like it. With that said Yukari is still a very interesting character too me because she has an incredibly well-defined character. She is intelligent, emotionally so, perceptive to other’s feelings and has a very sharp wit and tongue, both to put down others and help them. Her interactions with the P3 Female Protagonist are interesting and she is often very insightful actually. I will also confess, to a slight extent, the sheer extent of her nastiness towards Junpei did make me, somewhat, feel as if the two must at least be close, they rarely ever say anything without the other chiming in, so I can see a bit of myself shipping it...but as a terrible mistake the two swear to never tell anyone else and eventually realize is just overall unhealthy for them.
Ken: Ken plays a pretty well-worn archetype and he plays it fine: the earnest young boy with an edge, wise-beyond-his-years in some senses, but wet-behind-the-ears in others, with a strong hero complex tainted by a bit of an extreme edge. Ken is interesting but less fun to me just because he is somewhat predictable in the role he fulfills, which just isn’t my personal preference. I think he has amazing chemistry, and potential, with Akechi and Futaba and wish he got to interact more with both. His interactions with Ryuji, Ann and Morganna in their Special Ticket together is also absolutely great and again I wish him and Ryuji had more consistent interaction over the course of the game. But a lot of Ken’s interactions come down to Koromaru, which is fine, just not exactly thrilling. I do think Ken is adorable though, he’s very well-meaning and clearly very hard-working, and I’m a bit surprised that some more of the compassionate PTs, such as Ann, don’t actually regularly comment on or find him endearing.
Aigis: So I feel like Aigis can come across to players of PQ2 as uncomplicated but that’s only at a surface glance. The thing with Aigis is that she clearly HAS already overcome her primary character conflict, her feelings about being an artificial construct and the meaning of her existence. Throughout the third dungeon she expounds heavily on the conclusions she’s already come too. For many a character completing their character arc becomes boring, but not for me. I found Aigis fascinating and LOVED a robot who, rather than repeating the old and tired song-and-dance of ‘do I feel? do I will?’ already has her answers and also avoids the cliche of ‘robots have no emotions’ by, in her own way, being very emotional.
Fuuka: I enjoyed Fuuka quite a bit, and find her character a nice counterpart to Rise’s and Futaba’s. Although on the surface she seems to be the ‘shy, shrinking violet’ style of character this isn’t really true. She’s soft-spoken, by comparison to most, yes, but she’s not really shy. What she is, is the more calm and analytical of the three Navigators, less prone to exuberant emotional outbursts, but at the same time clearly more innately compassionate than the other two who are more prone to teasing or mocking. I felt her established interest in technology and mechanisms wasn’t integrated as fully as it could have been, alas perhaps because Futaba seemed to occupy more of that role, but did find that, if you look closely, Fuuka actually does offer some of the best advice to Hikari, and is consistently, along with Ryuji and Futaba, Hikari’s most verbal and ardent supporter and defender.
Uninteresting:
First, note, this does not mean I dislike the characters, I like them all, but these are characters who, in PQ2, I found the least interesting.
Akihiko: I feel so bad for him. So PQ2 really does avoid, for the most part, reducing it’s characters just to gags but Akihiko, man, they really do that with him. He basically only ever says one of two things: (1) I want to fight X (2) Protein-joke. It gets...old. I feel sorry for him because I feel he has potential there but the game seems determined to never explore it. He does have a VERY fun interaction with Chie and Makoto, all three I enjoyed and I can easily see Akihiko as Chie’s mentor and teacher, the two blend together well and have fun chemistry. His interactions with Makoto are also nice since it reveals his deepest character, as he is the one who tells Makoto to acknowledge herself more and sometimes realize that there is more to existence than regimented preparation. I enjoyed his chaotic energy, despite seeming a bit like a leader and an authority figure he’s actually very chaotic and impulsive, living in a more ‘go as the current takes you’ way which makes him adaptable and reactive. Now if only they’d used that for more than protein-related jokes.
Shinjiro: Poor Shinjiro feels to me like he fell into the trap Kanji avoided. His main problem is just he spends so much time brooding and making tiny statements that we don’t get a feel for him. His other problem is that his most consistent dialogue partner is Akihiko and every single one of their conversations, almost, breaks down into: Akihiko says something about protein or fighting, Shinjiro calls him dumb, repeat. Shinjiro clearly has wisdom and common sense, but he seems to restrain himself from actually imparting it compared to the likes of Makoto, Haru, Ryuji, Naoto or Akechi. The result is he makes less of an impact because he’s the character of the main cast who most visibly feels like he’s withholding himself from the group. He’s like Akechi but more so. Akechi also, in the game, can come across as if he’s minimizing his interactions, but he doesn’t do it quite as much as Shinjiro.

tokumusume’s list of best and worst movies and dramas watched in 2019:
Tumblr media
There’s a new category this year. Inspired by kpopalypse, welcome the Honorable Mentions! Movies that weren’t exactly bad but also weren’t good. Movies and dramas are qualified to enter if I watched them for the first time this year, not that they were released this year. Click on ‘keep reading’~~
Best Movies:
1.      Parasite
Another masterpiece from the director of Snowpiercer (let’s pretend Okja never existed). A poor family con their way to a rich household. Choi Woo-Shik from The Witch (see below) is the eldest son and mastermind, fabulous as always. Definitely the best movie of this year. For me, movie of the decade.
2.      The Witch Part 1 The Subversion
This movie is amazing, hard to describe without spoilers. A perfect mix of Stranger Things and Hanna. Choi Woo-Shik can come to my house and kick my ass anytime. I can’t wait for part two.
3.      Death Trance
Visually stunning, kinda like Amemiya Keita’s style in early Garo or Mad Max. I wish the movie was longer and the characters were better fleshed out, Ryuen the monk and the little girl had so much potential... The most interesting thing about this movie is how sexualized the main male character is compared to the female ones, and apparently, the swords were designed to look like veiny penises (can’t find a source for this info), and yes, they do look like veiny penises. The final showdown is heavy with sexual energy. Have I already said that Ryuen deserved better? #RyuenRights
4.      Gintama 2: Rules are made to be broken
The barber shop scene is a fucking cinematic masterpiece. I never laughed so much like I did with this movie. The way it doesn’t take itself seriously, the meta jokes, everything is perfect. Even better than the first one.
5.      Kingdom
While I think that some fight scenes were way too long (like the bamboo forest one), the dynamics between Shin and Hyou/Eisei were highly entertaining, at least in my shipper eyes. I like that (SPOILER) the King of the Mountain People is a woman and not once they try to call her Queen. She is a King. Hashimoto Kanna is adorable as a Ten, Kanata Hongo does a great job as Eisei’s psycho brother, Sakaguchi Tak waves his sword around, the usual stuff but with added layers of dirt and sweat.
6.      Bravestorm
A movie I lovingly call “Japanese Pacific Rim”. Full of Kamen Rider stars (Hino Eiji! Misuzawa Haruka! That girl from Heisei Generations, the one with a sword! She has a sword in this as well!) and giant robots (god, I love giant robots!), I waited so much for this movie and it exceeded my expectations. I just wish I could’ve watched in theaters, it had a limited showing in my country.
7.      Twelve Suicidal Children
What begins as a murder mystery ends with a twist you won’t see coming. All of the actors are amazing, but special mention to Sugisaki Hana and that guy from that one boy group I forgot the name but can’t be bothered to Google.
8.      Gakkou Gurashi
Four girls and their teacher try to survive the zombie apocalypse trapped inside the school. This one destroyed me for days.
9.      Forest of Love
I’ve watched some Sono Sion movies but nothing prepared me for this. Be aware of extremely gory sequences and sensitive topics. Hinami Kyoko is so amazing as blue-haired, punk girl crush Taeko that I totally didn’t notice she was AkibaBlue in Akibaranger.
10.  The Host
After watching Parasite I decided to go on a Bong Joon Ho binge and watched this horror movie. Not as good as Snowpiercer and Parasite in my opinion but heart-wrenching nevertheless. The little girl is the star of the movie.
11.  The Hungry Lion
A story about the dangers of social media and slut-shaming. I want to punch Mizuishi Atom in the face.
12.  Cromartie High
A little absurd comedy about yakuza-style high school boys (played by middle-aged men lol) forming a club to battle aliens summoned by themselves just because. It made me laugh like a child. A hidden gem.
Honorable Mentions:
1.      River’s Edge
Depressing as fuck. Warning: the cats die. It’s not graphic but it’s traumatizing. Yoshizawa Ryo is a gay boy who sleeps with old men for money. There’s a graphic sex scene (not Yoshizawa, sadly) where my only thought was “That thing is gonna get stuck in there! Use a condom!” Can’t remember much from it except for these three scenes.
2.      The Disastrous Life of Saiki K
Yamazaki Kento has the acting chops of a dead fish but it comes handy for playing a teen with psychic abilities and zero social skills. Hashimoto Kanna is one of the prettiest girls in Japan. Yoshizawa Ryo with white and blueish hair looks more like Sakata Gintoki than Oguri Shun in the Gintama live action. The end is a huge let down but the fun ride is worth it.
3.      Ano ko no, Toriko
Congratulations to Yoshizawa Ryo, he has FIVE movies in my list of favorite movies this year! This is to make up for crowning GIVER as the biggest waste of time of 2018, this list is totally not biased, lol. “Ano ko” could be just another romance movie but the (very) little insight into how the entertainment industry works and not focusing on school life made me love it. Poor Sugino Yosuke being left behind again, when will this boy get the main girl?
4.      Monstrum
It doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it’s pleasant enough to fill a rainy afternoon with a lot of blood and spilled guts. Hyeri of Girl’s Day is the heroine and Choi Woo Shik is the commander she falls in love with.
5.      Weirdo Go
I confess I watched this one just to see Ji Li (aka my snake son Nie Huaisang) dressed as a woman but it was enjoyable and not that problematic.
6.      Real - Kanzen Naru Kubinagaryu no Hi
Directed by the same guy that did “Creepy” and “Before we vanish”, there are lots of twists you won’t see coming. And a dinosaur. A fucking dinosaur.
7.      Tomodachi Game: The Final
The movie loses its focus halfway through then picks up again minutes before ending. Yoshizawa Ryo delivers again as the sadistic Yuuichi, much like his role in Gintama. The plot twists are the star of the movie.
8.     The Living Dead
Sorry Wen Ning. I saw the plot twist coming in the first 30 minutes of the movie, not very smart of the writer. His personality did a 180° turn for worse and I’ll demote the movie to an honorable mention for it. Gao Han is cute though, I would like to see him as a better character.
9.      Backstreet Girls
Some recycled scenes from the drama to situate the viewers, a completely new story for the movie, it is certainly funny and enjoyable, if you can get past the forced gender reassignment surgery background and transphobic jokes (you shouldn’t get past it btw). I like the soundtrack.
Best Dramas:
1.      The Untamed
Do I need to say more?
2.      The Tale of Nokdu
This Korean romance had everything to be a mess but it wasn’t!!! *claps* I don’t hate the main female character and the whole palace politics actually kept me interested until the end. The complete shift of atmosphere mid-season was strange at first but ultimately very welcomed.
3.      The Naked Director
Netflix original Japanese content is amazing. This one is a look at the life of a legendary porn director in the late 80s, I learned a lot about the history of Japanese porn and censorship (yay pixels!) and went looking for his, erm, works. Very graphic, 69/10 don’t recommend watching with people in the house.
4.      Channel wa Sonomama!
I don’t remember it well but it’s about a news station and what is like to be a journalist and it was very interesting and funny.
5.      SCAMS
Forgettable. Sugino Yosuke with black hair cons old people via phone calls.
Worst Movies and Dramas:
1.      The cat in their arms
The cats spend 90% of the movie in human forms, and halfway through it they simply abandon the cats’ plot to show a fucking long montage of a weird guy painting a picture of a nude girl. It’s also super creepy to see a grown-up man acting like a cat, getting belly rubs and eating cat food from a bowl. Yoshizawa needs to choose his roles more wisely.
2.      Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
A waste of Suda Masaki’s talent. Can Japan stop casting Tsuchiya Tao already?
3.      Samurai Marathon
Almost two hours of dirty men running through a forest. Maybe Japanese History experts will enjoy it, because I certainly didn’t.
4.      Lady Vengeance
While there are legit great moments, I didn’t find this “classic” to be anything special. The animal cruelty was too much for me.
5.      Hot Gimmick
This movie makes Bohemian Rhapsody’s editing look like a work of art. There are more flashing cuts than a T-ARA music video. I have no idea who likes who, who’s banging who, what even are they saying. Too much poetic shit for my like. I wanted to see Shimizu Hiroya naked. I was bamboozled.
6.      The Divine Fury
While some parts were interesting, at the end I still don’t know if the protagonist is possessed by a demon (if yes, then why would he help a priest destroy his friends?) or if he was blessed by God when his father died and talked to him (the glowing hand thing, why and how??). The exorcism parts are really, really scary, or maybe I’m just a chicken, but I had to avert my eyes. The best (only) part is that the protagonists are hot. Hello Woo Do-Hwan, you can sacrifice me to Satan any time…

Some other BBTAG scenarios that’d be cool
(I will now try and limit myself to the o.g. 4, b/c I barely know jack about Arcana Heart, Senran Kagura, Akatsuki Blitzkampf)
I might’ve mentioned some of these before, but I’m including them here for completionists sake
1. Ragna hanging out with Gordeau. I like his interactions with Ragna in BBTAG’s story okay, he treated Ragna with respect. Maybe Ragna meets Gordeau in Kanzakai and he goes to Gordeau’s bar and they chat. Ragna learns about how the Hollow Night works, they could chat about how annoyed that are by their usual aquaintances (Goedeau about Hilda and Chaos, and Ragna about.....well almost everyone in his life). Maybe Gordeau and Ragna get on the topic of revenge, since Ragna wants revenge on Terumi and Gordeau has a vendetta against Wagner. Ragna talks about how he had Terumi at his mercy once (CS’ climax) and Gordeau asks if it was worth it. Ragna notes that it was unsatisfying due to Terumi laughing during it when Ragna wanted him to suffer, AND recalls how Lambda died for him, and says it wasn’t worth it. (I see this as between CS and before CP).
If you want to go even further, maybe Gordeau introduces him to the rest of Amnesia (or Hilda and Chaos show up at the bar as Ragna and Gordeau are talking), and they offer Ragna to join Amnesia, sensing the power he has and saying that they share similar goals of taking down their world’s organizations of Order (Amnesia vs Licht Kreis and Ragna vs the N.O.L.). Of course Ragna tells them to fuck off b/c “When I did it it was for revenge, you’re doing it for shits and giggles” (TFS reference). I mean Hilda says that Amnesia’s purpose is just a bunch of people who want to be powerful and have fun. But they don’t kill, that rule was made clear by Chaos in Ekidu’s Chronicle Mode (following the death of Roger and Ogre in Gordeau’s Chronicle Mode).
2. Ragna in Remnant, like his first visit there. Of course Ruby might want to talk to him more, Yang gives him the benefit of the doubt for saving Ruby, Blake is in the middle considering I think she’d understand the situation they were in but also be wary of his Soul Eater ability (I think Blake would notice that), while Weiss would be against him due to her seeing his wanted poster for 90,000,000,000 PD. Ozpin could have Qrow tail Ragna since he is Oz’ informant and Ragna does seem to be a more active/immediate threat to those who don’t know him (if you want comedy maybe Qrow’s Misfortune semblance causes more grief for Ragna. Assuming that RWBY still have their System Crystal from RWBY’s ending, they could tell Ozpin about this and Oz will be up to speed.
So when Ragna shows up at Beacon he gets called to the Headmaster’s Office where the Ozluminati is waiting for him to just get the run down on things. Ragna’s bad attitude would attract Grimm, and also his Soul Eater makes him quite dangerous in a world where the powers are based on the Soul. Oz doesn’t want to start shit and Qrow probably has enough info to see he isn’t AS bad as people say, and that the situation is far more complicated. But Ragna is still a criminal with a dangerous power. The only reason he’s only being given a warning is due to Ruby’s good word, and if he tries anything, no matter the cost he WILL doe everything in his power to stop him from harming his students or the world he has sworn to protect as a Huntsman. Plus the fact that they can’t exactly enforce the las of a whole other Dimension.
Glynda is a bit wary of Ragna but respects Ozpin’s decissions, but Ironwood is in the camp of “This guy is a danger to us, so we should either contain him or kill him”.
If you want to go a bit more into the adult interactions, maybe after Qrow hears of Ragna’s shit lif ehe tries to take Ragna out to drink, but I think Ragna isn’t one to drink b/c he’d see it as a bitch’s way of dealing with probelms. But if Qrow annoy him to a point they have a drink off, butRagna out drinks him b/c his Azure Grimoire has a healing factor against toxins too (as shown how he shook off poison in one of the mangas) so he can’t get drunk.
Or you could have Taiyang seeing Ragna fight (Grimm, sparring with Qrow, who knows) and he picks up on how Ragna’s fighting is like Yang’s: prefering to go trhough everything and rely on your power when you get in a jam. But it can’t always save you. Maybe even have Tai give Ragna a thanks for saving his daughters, or this could be the only way you imagine Burnie Burns as Tai channel his inner Church and have him sass Ragna.
3. Referencing back to the post about the scene in CS where Ragna is with the Kaka Clan, you know the one I constantly reference. I'd imagine that after a week or so of everyone just chilling with each other Ragna is WAY more chill with everyone. So what I thought was maybe Yang and Akihiko, along with a few others maybe, are at a boxing gym and then Ragna shows up being......oddly more friendly/chill than usual, and just have them all have a friendly spar and just have Ragna be chill and friendl with people who don’t insult him or treat him like ass. I wish there was another cool brawler in UNI that Ragna could get along with to even it out.
4. Something smaller, just put anyone in the Kaka Village and watch cuteness overload. You guys saw how Weiss was with Zwei and Adrien, and Kanji wanted to pet Jubei so imagine how he’d react to the Kaka kittens.
5. Just something simple and cool for fighting shit: The I.T. go through the Emerald Forest in the style of Beacon’s Initiation Exam. With the 4 o.g. members of the I.T./current 3rd years (Yu, Yosuke, Chie and Yukiko) for one team, with the later members/2nd years form the other team (Naoto, Kanji, Teddie and Rise).
6. Adam Taurus and some other W.F. members are raiding a Sector Seven outpost/storage facility only to be intercepted by Makoto and Blake. After some fighting maybe Kokonoe talks over intercom or through a video screen so we can have some philosophical discussion between her and Adam,. Adam saying she’s kissed up to humans, while Kokonoe calls Adam and the WF bitches for letting the humans’ insults get to them this far. Makoto and Blake are a but uncomfortable, b/c while Adam is too heated about the animal people racism resulting in him going to murder people, Kokonoe has become a cold hearted bitch who, while not evil, has some issues.
7. How does Raven react to all this Cross-Dimensional bullshit? One idea I had was Yu talking with her to try and get her to see the Power of Friendship! He notes how her power also works through bonds, being able to make portals to those she has an emotional connection to (her former husband, brother, and daughter). Maybe then he unleashes his Wild Card aura to show how powerful Friendship can be (you know, the same aura that makes Elizabeth, the one who oneshots Erebus every other month, step back). Raven could still call Yu a naive idiot for thinking he can stop the horrors of Salem, although even she finds it hard to beleive that when Yu most likely just showed off Izanagi-no-Okami aura which was said by Izanami to possibly be near godlike power.
8. Sho Minazuki and Carmine Prime meeting. Both are vulgar fight happy assholes who have a blood moon motif going on. Sho goes to Kanzakai b/c the Hollow Night is full of assholes he can fight for fun. He and Carmine can fight and mayeb vibe off each other a bit, but Sho at leats has a tragic past while Carmine is just a loser who doesn’t care if he dies in a gutter. Mabe Labrys could say something like “I’m glad that Sho-kun finally has a friend he can relate to.....but.....I don’t think he’s a good influence.” As Sho and Carmine are laughing manicaly as they fight.
9. Ozpin learning about the Insulator and just....needing to sit down. Because as we all know from Vol 6, he had No plan to defeat Salem and was playing the long game defense. But now thanks to this cross-dimensional bullshit, here is the perfect weapon to FINALLY end it! Oz tries to talk to Linne about convincing Hyde to let him use it. But Linne has told Hyde to guard the Insulator with his life, and Linne doesn’t trust anyone else with it. Eventually Ozpin’s desperation leaks through and Linne connects the dots about Salem’s Immortality and Ozpin hiding her immortality. She then holds it over Oz’s head that if he tries to force the Insulator from Hyde she’ll spill his secret.
DRAMA
10. The main heroes (Ragna, Yu, Hyde, and Ruby) all talking with System just wondering what it would’ve been like if they all lived in a merged world. How would their lives be different, imagine them all going to school together? The possibilities are endless.
11. Doctor Oobleck beign fascinated by these other worlds and wanting to learn about their histories. Espeically the Persona and Under Night worlds (as thye are “Earth” worlds where things are very normal, no Grimm to limit humanity to 4 kingdoms and some small villages that get razed to the ground on a weekly to monthly basis. That sounds like it would be FASCINATING for a historian like Oobleck. Unfortunately since Earth doesn’t have dark monsters to unite against, we have a shit load of wars against each other. Which could lead to a lot of philosophical discussions about how people can only band together if they have a mutual enemy.
Just imagine Oobleck talking with Jubei or Bang about the Ikaruga Civil War, just Oobleck and Bang talking would be fun.
12. The robot girls: Noel, Aigis, Labrys, Vatista, and Penny all hanging out. Vatista is the most Robotic, Aigis has the most “life” expereince, Noel is the most “human”, Labrys and Penny are both very human like but naive and lack life experience. So they could all talk about shit.
13. Weiss wanting to spend time with Mitsuru, b/c Mitsuru is basically everything Weiss wants to be: she is an exceptional leader (commanding both SEES in her school years and current leader of the Shadow Operatives), a skilled fighter (Mitsuru flawlessly summons her Persona and Weiss struggles with summons at Beacon, AND her 1 v 1 Win-Loss record is kind of iffy), and she is on her way to redeeming her family name and company (after Mitsuru’s grandad caused the Dark Hour Incident 10 years before P3, and Weiss wants to redeem the SDC from her father) although IDK if it is still going on because A. people are still against Kirijo for the explosion accident 10 years before P3, or B. people are just against a woman being in power. Like Mitsuru is liek a perfect role model for Weiss.
I might add more later, lemme know what you guys think and if you guys want to take these to use them for fics.

Ignore me, just doing some more basic headcanons for the twins.
Under a cut bc it has mentions of suicide and a bunch of underlying dark themes.
@thedetectiveofinaba @afortiicri
Persona 3:
Canon happened, but Minako pulled her bed down from the third floor and sleeps beside Minato. They're so used to having to share a bed or room that they just rest a hand on the night table to make sure that the other can feel their presence by holding hands to sleep.
They respect each other when it comes to maxed S.Link and their dateable people. They dated the entire dorm's eligible and age-appropriate people, just not at the same time.
No. They did NOT date Ken. But Ken did propose to Minako, but she told him to wait until he was actually old enough to back up his words.
Minako dated Shinjiro and absolutely shut down. She visited him daily in the hospital until the day she died.
Because he was released from the hospital, Shinji ran up those stairs and held her as she died.
Minato had Aigis watch him die.
The Answer happened and everyone was there. Even Shinji was there.
The Answer is like January 1st for like week straight and the rest of them are wondering why they died. They find out at the end that they died to save the world.
Persona 4:
They're about 14-16, running away from their foster homes.
They found a foreclosed home in the outskirts of Inaba and decided to live there.
There's no water or anything, so they get really creative. Buying (pretty much) the entire blanket section at Junes does the trick for cold weather, but lots of bottled water on hot days. Going to school early to shower in the sports team’s shower rooms, charging their phones at work which is usually Junes but they run around the shopping district and help out there too.
They're enamored by P4-kun. Like, wow. How is he so cool?! If not for Kuma/Teddie, then they would be the most hype about P4-kun.
Also, Naoto's super hot. Minako tried dating her first.
On the topic of Naoto, EVERYONE is convinced that Minato is actually Naoto's brother until he showed his natural hair roots to disprove it. He has his sister's red hair but dyes it black/blue; while Minako puts red highlights in hers.
In my ship with @thedetectiveofinaba -- Strangers seem weirded out by PDA between Minato and Naoto, their friends (Investigation Team) called them MiNaoto as a joke but it actually stuck.
Minako has the biggest freaking crush on our resident dork prince, Yosuke. Will not act on said crush if P4-kun is after said dork.
They have a double dungeon. It's like a really fucking long hallway divided by thin glass, with many, many doors and many, many voices telling them that they're useless and only there for the money.
The glass has childish drawings since they can’t read backwards characters all over it.
Blue and pink dolls (with a number) representing their age start a new section of their nightmare dungeon.
There are mannequins sitting on chairs after the preteen dolls. Once the Investigation Team finds the twins, the mannequins are hanging from the ceiling, chairs kicked aside or inky red lines along the mannequins' wrists.
The Investigation Team has to use ice against fire attacks and vise-versa. Their boss forms are like twisted, headless versions of what they end up afterwards bc Personas.
Persona 5:
They were brought back like, shortly after Nijima Makoto’s Persona awakening.
It’s been almost a decade since they walked on solid ground.
They’re weak AF. Physical muscles need to be rebuilt. Even walking is a struggle at first.
They decide to change their names and try to go back into society again. Minato is Yuuki Makoto, Minako is Yuuki Mika.
Futaba can’t find an internet trace because these people aren’t supposed to exist anymore.
Their Palace is similar but every floor is a new foster home.
At first, only P5-kun (will be referred to as Aki-chan from here on) knows about their situation. It takes Aki-chan to unlock their level five Fool Confidant link to even know this.
It takes until their shared Palace is cleared until the Thieves learn about who they were.
Their old Gekkoukan IDs and uniforms were their Treasure because of the tight bonds they wove with their friends during their stay in Iwatodai.
Stupid nicknames. For everyone. It makes it a little more unique when a 17YO P5-kun answers to “Aki-chan” casually.
Dead serious about the stupid nicknames. All of the Phantom Thieves have one. Their most unusual one is for Nijima Makoto to differentiate which one they’re talking about. They call her “Mako-tan”.
It’s Igor’s fault that they came back to Earth again. It was a mistake but it also cuts Igor’s S.Link in half, since they’re part of the Fool confidant.
They stay at Le Blanc until they get in touch with Kirijou Mitsuru to find their old friends to crash in their houses until they can get their own place.
Shinjiro’s maxed S.Link helps Minako out since she ends up sleeping at Shinji’s place every other day. Minato stays with Yukari after his sister starts staying with Shinji.
If MiNaoto is a thing, they both stay with Naoto but she has one bed and someone always ends up on the floor. Minako stays with Aki-chan on “not suitable for minors” nights. Yes, they have a system to let the other know how the night will end up.

“[Suddenly feels around the bed to search for the other’s hand / body when they’re sleeping]” *_*v
here you are @tasogarenohane! i threw all the sappy romance into this one, so I hope you enjoy it!
Warnings: (Mature sexual content, not explicit)
(from this list of soft sentence starters)
(Set Reset)
It had been a long day, especially for the end of the week. He and Yu had both come home from their respective jobs late and forced down a quick store-bought dinner while barely even talking about their day - or anything, really; just the little things. They crawled into bed not long afterwards. Yosuke hadn’t even bothered getting into sleepwear, stripping down to his boxer-briefs and sliding between the warm sheets. He was almost asleep when he felt Yu crawl in behind him. His partner planted a gentle kiss on his neck and flicked the light, then the world outside of Yosuke’s eyelids went dark.
~~~
He was so tired, so he was even more confused when he woke up in the middle of the night, eyes blinking blearily against the faint light from the window. The room was utterly still and his body was saddled with the strange paralysis of R.E.M. He blinked some more and tried to remember why he woke up, recalling vague images and sounds that he suspected had been a dream. Too tired to do that for long, he closed his eyes, ready to plunge himself back into the warm river of sleep. Before he could get far, though, he heard Yu exhale softly and shift on the bed.
He opened his eyes again, blinking slowly. Yu had seemed really worn out when he got home today. He had only been a few minutes later than Yosuke, who had spent all day on his feet, first at Junes, and then making deliveries for the local courier service in order to have some extra money for groceries and the little household things they needed. His meager manager’s salary could just barely cover all their expenses, and Yu’s pay as a legal intern at the firm didn’t give them much overhead, either. The courier company was easy work and gave him the freedom he needed with a full time job to balance. The pay was inconsistent but he couldn’t say he’d ever been disappointed (it also gave him a chance to use his bike), so he worked there as often as he could.
But even as active a day as Yosuke had worked, Yu seemed even more tired from his own. Yu didn’t move around as much at his job, but Yosuke knew the work had to be taxing, considering the size of his eyebags. Yu was incredibly smart, and Yosuke always assumed super challenging work like “being a lawyer” would come just as easy to his partner as everything else had. Though he soon realized once Yu graduated and really started practicing that this assumption was … not quite the case. Yu had tried to explain it to him a few times, the kind of detail-oriented work that came with legal and the kind of political expectations that were placed on him now that his work ethic and skill had been exposed to the bigger partners. Yosuke didn’t think he needed the explanation - he got it. And instead of trying to grasp the minutia, he focused on remaining the sympathetic and supportive partner he aimed to be.
Or, he hoped he was. Maybe he should have asked Yu more about his day before they went to bed, though, get him to recall and expel the difficult parts before they followed him into sleep. Yosuke didn’t find his work stressful at all, usually. Paying the bills was stressful, but he didn’t know what that was like, to use so much of his energy on a single issue. At least … not since high school. And if Yu’s day was anything like that? Jeeze …
Yosuke’s body, now rising out of the dregs of sleep, moved on its own, his arm reaching out behind him to grasp at Yu’s form. He was still sleeping. His hip barely moved when Yosuke placed his palm over it. Yosuke kept it there, thinking of him. He hoped he was building a good life for them, where Yu could be truly happy and free to be whatever he wanted. He had recently found himself wishing that Yu wouldn’t have gone down the legal path, but that was honestly because he was now seeing just how stressful the work was. He couldn’t comprehend doing something that wrung out his brain all day. Junes was busy, sure, with sometimes long hours; but it was easy work and he was great at it, and it didn’t feel even remotely the same as what Yu had to face at that office.
He knew Yu’s salary would increase, too, as time went on - another reason Yosuke felt so twisted up about it. Higher pay usually meant more responsibility, and if Yu was tired from just being an intern, then what would happen when he made Associate? Partner? Would he get that far? Or would he just … collapse? He wanted to support him, but not at the risk of his health.
He flinched when he felt skin over his skin. He turned his head slightly and saw Yu moving, his hand coming over the top of his.
“Yosuke?” Yu mumbled.
Yosuke scooted back until he was pressed up against him, taking Yu’s arm and wrapping it around his torso, pulling his hand up close to his chest and pressing kisses to Yu’s fingertips. Yu sighed and hugged him back, shifting their hips so they were aligned comfortably together. He, too, kissed him, across the nape of his neck, nose brushing his hair aside so he could get to his skin.
“Do you hate your job?” he squeaked, studying Yu’s long fingers and nervously twisting the ring Yosuke placed there three years ago.
Yu hummed curiously against his neck and kissed it again. “Not at all; I love my job. It’s just challenging.”
“Really? But you’re always so tired when you get home.”
Yu grunted. “The commute is murder, and some days are harder than others. But I enjoy the work. Why? Have I been distant?”
“No, no, nothing like that,” Yosuke rushed to assure him. “Just making sure, I guess. You seemed pretty tired today, and we didn’t get to talk much.”
Yu snorted, planting another kiss. “You were the one who seemed dead on his feet.”
“I was n-” he started to defend. “Okay, maybe I was … but you seemed way more tired, partner.”
“I think we both just had long weeks. But, I promise-” he pulled his head up from Yosuke’s neck and turned him on his back to look him in the eyes, “I will tell you if it ever becomes too much.”
The rest of his questions died on his tongue because Yosuke knew he would. It felt good to hear it, all the same. It felt really good. He nodded and Yu sealed their pact with a small kiss. Yu rolled him back onto his side and buried his face in his neck like before. Yosuke suspected they were both supposed to go back to sleep now, but Yu kept kissing him, over and over, until it became too much.
Yosuke chuckled and knocked back into him. “Cut it out, that tickles.”
“Tickles?” Yu asked, grabbing a bit of his earlobe between gentle teeth. He kissed it afterwards and dotted his neck with more kisses, all the way around to the front of his throat until Yosuke was, yet again, being rolled onto his back and squirming and laughing. He worked his way up Yosuke’s jaw and caught his lips, leading them through a lingering kiss that quieted the last bubbles of laughter in Yosuke’s chest.
Their lips broke apart with a smack and Yosuke eyed him suspiciously. “Well, maybe not ‘tickles’ exactly …”
Yu smirked and leaned down for another kiss. Yosuke reciprocated and threaded a hand through Yu’s hair, his thumb tracing the sharp edge of his jaw. His stomach quivered excitedly when Yu took that opportunity to crawl on top of him; Yosuke let out a muffled grunt and slotted their legs together.
The soft movements of their bodies quickly worked their magic, riling both men up into a blissful state of arousal, hot and heady, especially once they felt the effects of their grinding bulging between each other’s legs.
Yosuke moaned. “Shit …” and grabbed Yu’s lips again, forcing his mouth open needily. It had been a really long week.
“Sure you’re not too tired for this, partner?” Yu mumbled into Yosuke’s mouth.
Yosuke thrust their hips together. “Never.”
Yu moaned and thrust back. “Ngh … same here.”
Yosuke lost track of time as they pushed and pulled against each other with an unspoken urgency. Yu lost his shirt and Yosuke’s mouth nipped his skin wherever it could reach, biting hard over Yu’s collarbone and enjoying the hiss that brushed his ear. It was fast and desperate, and they both finished hard, heaving against each other for several, long minutes trying to catch their breath - and enjoying it, feeling their hearts pound beneath their hands, skin trembling and alive, one soul in two sets of bones.
Yosuke threw his arm over Yu’s shoulders, now thoroughly spent. He thought he was exhausted before. He was still out of breath, but managed a chuckle at his own expense. Yu hummed into Yosuke’s skin and shifted, kissing lazy, sluggish kisses over his shoulder and up his neck.
“Nothing quite like a night with you to rejuvenate me,” he sighed.
Yosuke scoffed. “Speak for yourself. I’m more tired now than I was at dinner.”
Yu popped his head up and pecked him on the cheek. “Then let me kiss you back to sleep.” He started a line of kisses down his cheek towards his jaw, and Yosuke moaned.
“Nhn, I don’t wanna be kissed back to sleep,” he whined, already halfway there.
“Then what do you want?” Yu kept kissing him, downward and downward, until he reached his chest  and scattered it with more wet kisses.
“I wanna wake up,” Yosuke said, but he was fading fast.
“But it’s the middle of the night,” Yu tried to reason.
Yosuke made a frustrated little sound. “But you’re awake.”
“I told you. Being with you refreshes me.”
Yosuke blinked down at him a few times. Yu had stopped kissing him and was looking up innocently at him, his chin resting on his chest. “You really mean that?”
“Of course,” Yu answered, as if Yosuke had asked him quite the stupid question.
Yosuke blushed - he couldn’t believe he was still blushing over him after all these years - and quirked a tired smile. “You goofball.”
Yu maintained eye contact with him as he began another series of kisses over his chest, moving down over his abdomen, the dip between his ribs that ran towards his bellybutton.
“Don’t get too far down now. You’ll just get me all … you know,” Yosuke warned.
“I thought you wanted to wake up.” Yu said with a raised eyebrow.
Yosuke threw his arm over his eyes and laughed, then tucked it behind his head to support his neck as he peered downward at his partner. “Then have at it, you go-getter.”
Yu smirked in silent acceptance of the invitation and continued his trailing kisses. Yosuke closed his eyes and offered his body up to Yu’s warm lips and suckling mouth, instantly eager to feel the gentle pressure build within his body again, to feel Yu’s mouth bring him there. It didn’t matter that it was the middle of the night, and that Yosuke was half-dead with exhaustion. They had a slew of plans tomorrow - but only one plan tonight. Yosuke moaned when Yu hit his target, 60 hour week suddenly forgotten, the memory of Yu’s tired face sapped from his mind.
