it’s not necessarily that I hate the themes most prevalent in fiction set in the real world and it’s not necessarily that I don’t like stories revolving around real people or relationship drama or interpersonal issues it’s more like im a dog who doesn’t recognize that a pill is still a pill if it has peanut butter on it. I need like the little peanut butter spoonful that is aliens or robots or monsters or time travel or something fantastical and not at all down to earth real life so that you can approach me and be like “this story is about how friendships can deteriorate over time and also how this guy feels bad for being a bad friend and causing his buddy problems with their girlfriend” and then look at me making a face at you and be like “AND! they’re all aliens who are doing all that across spacetime” and I’ll be like OHHHHHH OKAY YAY (shlop shlap shlup the sound of a dog horking down peanut butter pills) wow what a poignant story

I suppose it's kind of inevitable, but also kind of funny, just how many queer dramas have the person-who-is-out-and-doesn't-care-what-soeciety-thinks x person-who-wants-to-be-with-them-but-also-isn't-ready-to-actually-dedicate-themselves-at-the-cost-of-the-bigger-social-system-they-were-part-of dynamic.
I'm currently watching The Valley of a Thousand Hills on Netflix, and, guys. I've seen this exact same conflict before. The last time, it was called Good Omens.

so @potatoobsessed999 and i finished our reread of the hobbit last night and i’m now fully and completely convinced that
arkenstone’s a silmaril
arkenstone is maedhros’ silmaril specifically
and this COULD be a post about how the arkenstone is described exactly the same as the silmarils are, or how thorin talks about it in the exact same way that the feanorians do, but for the moment i am skipping all of that because listen to me. just for a second here accept this as canon into your hearts because if this is so then that would mean.
that bard, a king who had his home destroyed by a great evil from the north and was willing to hold the glowing beautiful stone ransom to protect his people, willingly laid maedhros’ silmaril to rest with thorin, a king who had his home destroyed by a great evil from the north and who sought to retrieve the glowing beautiful stone that was the last remaining thing he had of his father.
and i just think that’s such a potent ending for the damn thing. there is the peace that was never achieved in the silmarillion. there is the sympathy that was never achieved in the silmarillion. the silmarils cannot come home to the feanorians, but they can come home to durin’s folk. they can find their home with a different people of aule. with a different people who have faced horror and death in their own home. with a different son who has lost his father who had lost his father, left to hold his people together. and it can do that because instead of being fought over, it was in the end given up freely.
and i just think that’s nice, actually.

i cannot stress enough how important it is to write at your own pace. to give your mind and spirit room to breathe, to process your creativity and allow it to come organically to you. goals and discipline are a good and necessary part of any hobby, especially writing, but so is rest. rest prevents burn out. and if you push yourself until you burn out you will wind up taking even longer to complete projects or meet goals. even if you are already burnt out that's okay. this is your sign to give yourself the grace to take breaks. your story, your muses, your brilliant ideas will be waiting for you to pick them up with proper enthusiasm when you're ready.

I think that meme about Genshin's two character archetypes being "Boy With Trauma" and "Girl With Job" is still the funniest and unfunniest thing about the game.
Like, here we are at the tail-end of Natlan and they're still serving us "Escoffier's personality is chef" and "Ifa has generational trauma inherited from the unresolved grief of his family's internecine conflict which led to the death of innocent animals."
Okay, I'm kidding, but being serious, if we had a nickel for every time "gainfully employed" was the primary character trait of a Genshin female character, we would have... a lot of nickels.
On the one hand: Hilarious. Every single society in Teyvat is being hard carried by its female workforce.
On the other hand: I wish that more of the female cast was given fully realized backstories outside of their assigned professions.
Like, more of the women should get to have tragic, wild pasts (or presents!) that have bearing on both their character development arcs and the plot of the game itself. You know, as a treat.

I’m gonna take the term “morally grey” from this fandom until everyone understands what it means. Just because someone has a body count doesn’t mean they’re not a good person, and just because someone has a tragic backstory doesn’t mean they’re not a monster

You do get the sense that the fallout of Roger's death and the Roger pirates disbanding not so much traumatized Buggy and Shanks indifferent ways but instead generated such drastically different reactions to the trauma.
While the trauma of everything seemed to push Shanks into the future, always constantly waiting for something, putting plans on hold and then later in place, for this great moment, this great coming that he sees on the Horizon. For Buggy it rooted him firmly in the past keeping him trapped in this grief masquerading as anger.
While Roger's death forced Shanks to grow up fast, it kind of arrested Buggy's development keeping him stuck in those same feelings, rooted int that same place.
You get the sense that Buggy's whole east blue schtick is just one long overdue rebellious phase one big fuck you to Roger and his ideals. He's rebelling against Roger's principles. One of their rules was don't steal from innocent people and Buggy was keeping a whole town in poverty. If Roger and Luffy's pirating styles are diametrically opposed to someone like Blackbeard, who might be the most literal pirate in the entire series, then buggy is the parody of that Blackbeard piratism. He is playing up cruelty, being the most piratey pirate possible, hell he's literally a clown on a stage. It's all a show! It's his own special way of trying to "get back at Roger" of trying to discard everything Roger taught him for this overacted, over exaggerated clownish cruelty. Mentally he never left that execution square. He is still 15, alone and scared.
Hell he literally never left either, while I'm pretty sure Shanks' booked it out of the east blue as fast as he could, Buggy never lef, might have never left, if not for Luffy. It's part of why Luffy bothers him so much, he's just like Roger everything that Buggy is trying hard to forget and here comes this kid, whose never even met the Captain but is wearing his hat, shoving it right back in his face.
It makes sense that he never leaves the east blue till Luffy literally forces him out of it (fucking with Luffy gets him captured and imprisoned) and it makes sense that it's Luffy that literally breaks him out of prison, literally sets him free, and on the path to greatness that maybe he was always meant to achieve (even if he trips his way into it). This boy that is tragically so much like his old captain but so beautifully unabashedly himself, is what Buggy needs to start letting go off the past, to start trying to move forward.
Maybe that's why Buggy, at what could arguably be described as his lowest moment, gets the strength to free himself from his own self imprisonment, realizing that even back then he was locking himself away and pinning his own dreams on Shanks. And, maybe for the first time ever, Buggy really own his dream. He declares to his tormentors and his crew and the entire world that; actually He wants to find the one piece, him, as captain of his own crew, this crew, not just a part of someone else's. That's his dream and he's willing to turn the world upside down to do it.

Saying that Ichiruki doesn't parallel Isshin and Masaki is kinda funny because it's the opposite! Kubo copied himself the Ichiruki moments from the first two arcs and decided to put into Ichigo's parents relationship, he decided himself to use Ichigo and Rukia panels to make Isshin and Masaki romantic 🤷‍♀️

The end of TDP was so chilling.
Aaravos saying he doesn't want to lose another daughter again referring to Claudia.
Is Aaravos manipulating Claudia again or telling the truth about his genuine feelings towards her? I'm not even sure which option is worse at this point. Or does any of that even matter anymore.

from: @starflungwaddledee to: @post-it-notes7
message from santa: "happy holidays post-it-notes! 🎄🥳 i know you very politely only wished for a few modest things- characters high fiving, or struggling in christmas attire- but i hope you'll still enjoy this given that i kinda went the opposite direction entirely! i'm an enormous fan of your work and most times you post anything i wind up browsing your art tag from tip-to-tail in enraptured delight. as such, i thought it was only fair i give back something a little more significant in gratitude for all the joy your work has given me. i knew i wanted to do a comic, so i was thrilled you already had a whole storyverse for me to work from!! this scene seemed the most obvious choice (chapter 8 of "wishful thinking" on ao3) given that i enjoy a dramatic fight scene 😂 i tried to stick as beat-by-beat to the writing as i could and worked in as many details as possible; i hope it'll be fun to see it envisioned this way! merry christmas! ~starflung 🎀🔔 "

forever thinking about how yjh does his best to get his point across to kdj that reading about him doesn't make him know/understand everything about him and that he's not just a character but then turning around in the epilogue to read his story and feel like maybe he's starting to understand kdj better (despite kdj claiming yjh understands his heart the most, and yjh saying that about kdj understanding him the best too), and he legit survives while reading the story while kdj also did that with twsa they are so hypocritcal when it comes to each other it also shows in the way the react to each other's deaths but also them trying to sacrifice their own lives for eachother as they actively try to stop and/or berate eachother for doing the same exact thing
