5 years now. 5 years since the 1 terrible event that started a 5 year nightmare of uncertainity began.

I know it’s a bit pointless to keep on reflecting on that accident given that the show is now over, but there are some key points about it that still get to me even to today.

Why? Because that accident ultimately exposed this show’s biggest weakness:

Hetty was the real spark that kept this show as good as it had been for 9 years. And without her being around, it was never the same, it all stunk. And RSG’s new direction that involved changing everything else that was good made it all worse.

Writing turned from great to stale, lame, plenty of other words you can think of. Humor went from funny to mostly cringy. Cases started feeling too easy, too convoluted, too political, or just never wrapped up. (that 100% would never have happened before Season 10). And the team feeling eventually disappeared all together and was a mix mash of random pairings at the end. Ratings went down bit by bit, and the show’s large budget became too big to handle.

A lot of things ultimately led to Season 14 being the last, but not having a strong, capable leader at the helm full time definitely started the problems.

I don’t blame Linda for what happened, it was just an accident. How it was ultimately handled though after Season 10, that was RSG’s fault. We should never have been in the dark for so long about so many things. Not having answers just added on to the tension.

In conclusion, I wish that accident never have happened. Then maybe, just maybe, things wouldn’t have gotten as bad as they really did.. (and yeah, you can add that to the endless pile of ‘maybes’ that gathered over the years)
