You know sometimes I think that the reason I stopped being on the sokai ship online is that the reasons why I think the ship is nice are so separate and different from how I see most people interpreting the characters and wanting the ship to be that it just loses all appeal to me.
#it's about vulnerability and peace to me okay#It's about sora being unwilling to leave kairi behind where she is a bit slower than the rest of the group#it's something I could absolutely project headcanons on disability on#it's about kairi signifying home and peace and stability#where sora's world became incredibly chaotic#it's about being accepted as who you are not what you can or cannot do#and sora being appreciated because of who he is beyond the keyblade#and kairi's life being valued even if she is not a big strong warrior#it's about the drama of kairi clinging to a past sora desperately wants to have again but cannot go back to#and kairi having the POTENTIAL to relate to that struggle due to her own past#it's about both having the experience of being left behind#and both being kind at heart and clinging to normalcy where they can#it's about being selfish about it too and not recognizing the ways in which the other grew#stubbornly clinging to the way they knew each other because the leap of change is scary albeit necessary in the long run#and stepping on each other's toes because of this because they don't recognize their goals and personalities shifted#that's what's yummy to me#whereas with soriku I am very aligned to fandom interpretation hence why I am waaay more intense about it here#but yeah I... don't want kairi to be a super goddess girlboss that saves sora that's not why she is appealing to me#as someone who struggles with not shining for skills and being left behind I treasure the fact that she is narratively important#and treasured by her friends - but still not super OP and the best of the best and a perfect flawless problem solver and hero#I enjoy that she is weaker and her best friend would STILL risk it all to see her safe - she is not disposable or an afterthought#and she matters because of who she is and the friendship she brings not because of what she can bring to the team of keyblade wielders#i need to find a tag for personal updates

Until 1999 comes out and reveals the lore my personal headcanon/fanon idea is that the Hex used to be a pretty tightnit and functional squad of agents but the encroaching helminth technocyte infection is slowly driving them “mad” (ie just throwing their brain chemistries off and worsening pre-existing issues and being forced to suddenly go cold turkey on your adderal because your cool machine body is now immune to conventional drugs) so it’s manifesting as them all having unusually short fuses with each other and bickering and increasingly resorting to coping mechanisms for their worsening neuroses (Arthur is isolating himself, Amir is dopamine seeking, Aoi is incongruently faking it till she makes it, Leticia is increasingly prickly, Quincy’s developing something of a defensive superiority complex, and Eleanor is invading peoples’ minds and privacies and keeping obsessive tabs on her peers). Basically everyone’s on the verge of a bad nervous breakdown (which could be used as a metaphor for “losing their humanity” or something. Like really examine how there’s this ableist connection between having psychological disorders/disabilities and personhood (lack of it)? But doing so via Dark Sector Dating Sim where everyone’s a tragic werewolf but instead of turning into a wolf they’re turning into superpowered space ninja mechsuits. )
Which is to say that absolutely very little of this is strongly supported by the demo but I’ve been having a lot of fun thinking about it because I think one of the most entertaining ways to do a character study is to see how they crack under pressure/distress/trauma and cope with it. And the Hex are in that perfect intersection of being characters that are deliberately written to be appealing in some way (for the folks who wish to go the dating sim route) but also have some interpersonal conflict. Maybe part of the plot of 1999 involves the drifter reconnecting them or helping em manage their emotional issues (see inside an ugly broken thing and take its pain away or whatever). Drifter’s had some personal experience with cognitive behavior therapy or emotional regulation skills via learning to master and escape the spirals of Duviri, they might be able to wrestle the Hex into a group therapy session. More likely involving void nonsense. I could just be projecting my own personal issues onto these characters but it’s fun.
All of this is just baseless musings, and I very well could be pulling a lot of nonsense out of thin air- I’ve definitely confused warframe canon with my own assumptions or imaginings to fill in the gaps in the story myself. But anyways.

followed you simply for empires ctommy. I don’t even like empires but ctommy is my everything,,, any spare bits rattling around in that brain of yours
I have so many THOUGHTS about this dude you have no idea. Also, I do recommend watching Empires not because it's super similar to the dsmp but because it has its own disc war and Jimmy Solidarity is like Tommy but in a different font. Anyway,
My favourite idea I've had so far is cTommy punching transphobes in the face. Unlike the smp where it's like maybe 40-odd people trapped in a cursed land they cannot leave, Empires has citizens, it had loads of people. So like there's bound to be one person in the Grimlands who doesn't like their Count being a trans man. Tommy is having none of that though, he will clobber anyone who talks bad about fWhip while saying something badass like; "fWhip is twice the man you'll ever be"
Am I projecting heavily on that one? Yes.
Similarly, if you ever give anyone shit for Tommy's or anyone else's disability he will beat you with his prosthetic arm. I think on the smp, being disabled is a very common thing (hard of hearing/deaf people, amputees, nerve damage, blindness, etc) thanks to the constant wars, explosions and violence. I headcanon Tubbo to be almost entirely blind because of his execution, so Tommy will shout at you if you are rude to a blind person. He also absolutely knows sign language, which I've been calling MSL (minecraft sign language), so fWhip who is absolutely HoH thanks to being a demolitionist has someone he can communicate with if he doesn't have his hearing aid, and same with anyone else who's deaf/HoH.
In a similar vein to Tommy transphobe-puncher Innit, Tommy doesn't really give a shit about how he presents his gender. If you ask he will say he's a BIG MAN who uses he/him pronouns only, but he's also happy to walk around wearing a skirt (as long as it's a practical one he can fight in). He makes flower crowns for his friends. He can braid hair and has long-ish hair of his own. Hell, I'd say he could even do some basic makeup! Just stereotypically "feminine" things, because he just Does Not Care™. The most trans-allegory cishet man ever.
Tommy seems like the type to not care if he's asked to wear something formal (I.e. the L'manberg uniform) as long as he can still fight in it, Tommy likes to be prepared at all times. He keeps like three concealed weapons on him at all times. People have mentioned kinda worriedly to fWhip that his kid has a "perfect soldier stance", that he more marches wear he walks than actual walking, etc. It's concerning to see a kid no older than 16 walking around like a grizzled war veteran (which he is). Also, when asked to greet another Emperor respectfully, Tommy interprets that as a salute, perfect posture, etc with "It's an honour to meet you, ma'am/sir!" Because that's the only way he knows how to "show respect".
Idk I just want to explore the child soldier side of cTommy more.
Also just Tommy who's literally been homeless before being utterly shocked at the lavish lifestyle royalty/nobility lead. He sees all the food laid out in the dining hall to feed fWhip and his whole staff and is just shocked, there's never been that much food to go around on his whole server and there it all is just sitting there, AND fWhip tells him there's more if he doesn't like any of it!
Tommy really is just Sophia the first in this au lol

What are your thoughts on Bucktommy/Buddie now? Has anything changed? I can't help but notice you seem to be distancing yourself from Buddie (or more specifically from Buddie stans? – I bet you still love the pairing) and embracing Bucktommy more (you do seem more protective over them now than you were before) but I also might be projecting so I figured it'd be better to ask.
Hey, nonnie. Questions are always welcome. <3 I still have love for the Buddie dynamic and will always appreciate the organic, innate chemistry Ryan and Oliver bring to the screen, but it's something that I've learned to live without while still enjoying the show, if that makes sense. Back in seasons four and five, for instance? I was not afraid to express my disappointment over a Buddie scene that didn't meet expectations or could have been included over whatever happened in canon. Since season six and even more so as we got through season seven? If we get Buddie content, great, I'll enjoy it for those few minutes, but I'm not asking *where* Buddie is or *why* scenes got cut or even thinking ahead to what might happen for them the next week. It makes my viewing experience much more satisfying these days, especially with show runners who CLEARLY do not plan months, never mind weeks in advance and will change any part of a story line or scene to fit their mood at any given time. Do I think Buddie could still happen? I choose not to rule it out completely because we can't time things that have no current end date, but as it stands, I think it would be something that isn't seriously considered until near the end of the series/the story because at that point...there's nothing to lose, you know? When it comes to BuckTommy, I have definitely activated my "protective side" not because I am already planning "endgame" in my head (look at Lone Star - endgame isn't real), but I can't sit back and watch people deliberately misrepresent facts (as in, things that are canon) to fit a headcanon. Especially when we've had Ryan out here on multiple occasions explaining why Buddie's platonic friendship resonates with him. He could change his mind, absolutely, but as of right now? I won't be silent while people disregard his personal feelings for the sake of winning a fabricated ship war. I respect his journey regardless of whatever crap he's put out on the internet through the years because I'm not him and I don't know what he went through as that young kid from Sacramento. Also, just like I don't appreciate people trying to speak about me and my experiences as a person with a visible disability, I feel it's important to boost the opinions of the fans, the male fans, who actually understand the story we're watching unfold. [As much as queer women might be able to relate to parts of Buck's journey, it's not actually FOR the women when there are no queer women involved. And guess who's overseeing every detail? A man.]
What will happen with BuckTommy? I doubt Tim even knows that 😉 But I'll welcome their romance for as long as ABC thinks it's worth telling. And if Buck were to move on with someone new? I'll watch that, too. I'm just going where the story takes me, honestly. It's how I've (finally) found my peace.

I dont have motivation to draw but you know what i do have? Ranting about OJ headcanons!
Hi gang i lobe OJ inanimate insanity and here are some in depth headcanons i have and imade sure to research alot about certain things but if i get asnything wrong that is on me and i aspologise OKAY!!!! GIGGLE OJ has Dyscalculia, BPD, and is autistic :3 Dyscalculia is a math learning disability that impairs an individual's ability to learn number-related concepts, perform accurate math calculations, reason and problem solve and preform OTHER!! basic math skills!!! >_< this is just a silly headcanon that may just be projection because i miighhtt have this myself!?!?! but not too sure maybe i just suck at math. WITH AUTISM . this guy does not get social cues, does NOT enjoy change. it makes him anxious, as shown a few times iirc. He gets obsessed with stuff and really never truly stops. Probably one reason why he works so much is because he gets so obsessed with working with stuff that he just doesnt stopo !!! He's also insanely impulsive. although he is a little mature he mainly doesnt think before he speaks, plus he gets very angry over the littlest of things which brings inn!!! BPD!!!! THIS GUY.. as shown in the show multiple times, he has terrible abandonment issues and tries so hard to make sure NOBODY leaves him again. the thought absolutely terrifies him. Despite getting so insanely angry over things (a recent example is when he and paintbrush fought in season 3 episode 4) and having awful and shaky relationships with others.. which causes people to leave him / abandon him. He also has impulsive and risky behaviours (which also ties into his autism traits) such as ALSO ruining okay relationships because of sometjing he thought of someone, thinking they are bad and will hurt him.
Tumblr media
(Plus, even better, the hotel OJ canonically has had a casino OJ created!! which could also tie into the impulsive and risky behaviors with gambling!!) what ties with the fact he has intense anger, is also shown with the amount of times hes actually HAD a fight with someone in the show. let it be Bomb, Paintbrush, Paper. Sometimes it can get quite physical!!!
Tumblr media
Which also brings us with Taco, since shes a whole thing with this guy. Despite him not being directly effected by her, She still tried to steal HIS prize!! He didnt like that. He got angry with that. he didnt truly show it, but we can tell he did. since everytime Taco is mentioned within his vicinity he gets pretty angry. This could tie with this symptom of bpd since he did, slightly like Taco before it all. Although thinking she was a little stupid, and useless. But this believing Taco is cruel, or doesnt care at all, has lasted over 12 years. So its more of a longtime thing. Which is also something with bpd, having a long time, long lasting hatred, angry, or just a strong emotion about something or someone. or nothing at all!!
Tumblr media
Oh and by the way, this guy has a HORRIBLE time keeping good relationships, they usually end because of something he thought of someone. Such as Bombs "betrayal" in season 1, and he thought Bomb was horrible and hated him for a time. Or trying to dump Paper because of how he thought he was going to leave him. OJ has abandonment issues, and with this, gets angry at others for trying to leave him and abandon him, when they really aren't. Or he believes they are cruel and they do not give a shit about him or anyone's well being and tries to just. not associate with them, but he does eventually get them back. Well, sometimes atleast!!! also, to add onto Autistic traits HE GETS ANXIOUS AND UNEASY AROUND FIGHTS WITH OTHER PEOPLE / YELLING / LOUD NOISES !! as seen with the scene where EVERYONE is fighting in episode 1 season 3!!!
Tumblr media
And although it could be because hes glass and easily broken, he gets scared when someone raised their voice at him, and looks as if they are going to attack him. But he also gets angry, and starts to fight back. maybe as a defense mechanism but whoo knows! (Note; this one may just be a headcanon, nothing in the show really suggests this but it is also pretty likely he WOULD do this!! he does have a history of snapping back at others and arguing with them if he feels threatened) also i would like to mention his constant state of worry about not being able to work. When he went to season 3 because he was invited, it is implied he rarely ever takes vacations / breaks from working. he says "I'm not too sure im on board with this vacay...--vacayggayu. AUGHj." (he doesnt even know how to say the word!) this could tie into obsessive behaviours?!?!? and if we think about it, it causes him excessive stress and worry. Anxiety about leaving the hotel to a different caretaker while hes on his break. Which he BARELY ever takes, mind you. Autism, and bpd symptoms in themself. He also has a lack of fear, but when something becomes too overwhelming he may overreact and have more fear than usual / expected of him. So yeah!!! little OJ thing, this is just because im insane about this guy. uhhh somethings may be inaccurate but hey, im just having fun and making reallyyy in-depth headcanons about a fictional juice, so. Happy days!

I’m a little curious in a previous post talking about flatland Bill says color wasn’t banned. Is color also something they can change like flatland, or are they born with it like skin? If they are born with it is does it also apply to the hierarchy, or is it just going to be based off of sides only? If they aren’t born with it, and it’s like clothing are there certain colors no one can be? Like how only important people could wear purple, so only circles can be purple? I watched a Flatland movie animation which I think is the right movie? I had no clue what was going in, but hope to get the book someday. Also since they have eyes at the edge of their bodies did they change it to the center when they left the 2nd dimension, or whatever happened. Is hugging with a line kind of awkward? I feel like it would be super easy to accidentally hug their face too. Sorry if this is a lot of questions I’m just very curious
(Before I say anything else, since you said you wanna get the book, I'm gonna drop this link on you!! Since Flatland is in the public domain, it's legally available for free through Project Gutenberg! And it's got the original illustrations too. Go forth and read Flatland. It's a fascinating little mix of geography lesson + sci-fi + social satire + cosmic horror. I haven't watched any of the movie adaptations yet, so idk how true they are to the book.)
I assume you're talking about this post! Now, this IS a work-in-progress fic, so some of my headcanons about Bill's backstory & home world are subject to change as I write and figure out what ideas would potentially work best. But so far my plans are thus:
In Bill's home dimension, shapes are naturally born with colors—the same way humans are born with different eye, skin, and hair colors; or (perhaps a more apt comparison to account for the wide variety), the way that a flower can potentially bloom with any color of the rainbow depending on its genes. And shapes CAN give themselves different colors, in the same way that humans can get tattoos or makeup.
Just like humans, changing their color could imply something about the person (for instance, in the same way that humans society makes different assumptions about somebody with purple lipstick and skeleton tattoos versus somebody wearing a full face of subtle natural-looking makeup), but in most places you're not gonna find any laws about what you can slap on your skin.
I've mentioned in another post that I choose to interpret Flatland as like Bill's home world, but not the same as Bill's home world—and in particular, it would be an absolutely terrible resource to learn about his world's society and politics. The original Flatland is a satire of Victorian-era beliefs about gender, disability, and social class, and it's great at being that; but I'm writing a fanfic in 2023 and I'm not interested in using Bill's backstory to comment on Victorian-era beliefs. I want to use Bill's backstory to comment on UFO cults, spiritual con artists, child celebrities, and gifted kid burnout. Those themes don't really call for society-wide anxiety over the physical markers of social status; the extreme dehumanization of the disabled; or a very rigid class system with limited opportunities for advancement. So I doubt I'll explore those elements in my version of Bill's home world.
So, yes—in Bill's world, a resourceful line could shade her ends to make herself look like a circle from the side. Exactly the same way that, in our world, a drag king could use makeup contouring to mimic a more "masculine" bone structure and eyeshadow to mimic beard stubble and then go to a drag show wearing a priest costume. In Flatland and in Victorian England, a line contoured like a circle/drag king in a priest costume would be outrageous and unacceptable. In Bill's world and in our 2023 society, the people who are offended by such a performance are on the losing side of history and screaming impotently as their influence dies, and you can go see a drag king priest and it's fine. You can even be a drag king priest. I believe in you. ✨
And since I'm having shapes be born different colors, I don't plan on having any association between specific colors and a hierarchical ranking. I'm not interested in recreating racism & colorism in fantasy math shape land.
Just to give you a sense of how much of Flatland's society I'm willing to throw out, I'm not even sold on whether I'm going to keep the triangle-to-circle shape hierarchy. If I do keep it, I'll be treating it the same way I'd treat other elements of Flatland's Victorian satire: like it might have been true ages ago but by Bill's time things have changed. Maybe there's still an informal hierarchy and you've still got a system in place that keeps the poor poor and the rich rich BUT it's much less formalized/codified than it was a few generations ago and there are more and more people who see these social forces as an unjust system—so for instance, maybe you still see more circles than triangles in politics because they come from families with old money that were already powerful a century ago, but if somebody unironically says "circles SHOULD be leaders because they're naturally morally and intellectually superior," it smacks of eugenics and nobody trusts that guy.
But I also might just... not keep the shape hierarchy and not keep the "each generation gets closer to a circle" worldbuilding at all. (I've already joked in another post about making Bill's dad a rhombus with no explanation just to confuse the people who have read Flatland.)
What's most likely, though, is that I just won't say anything for OR against the existence of a shape hierarchy, because it's just not something likely to come up based on the themes I'm writing about lmao.
Yes, I assume that (at least most of) the few shapes that survived from Bill's dimension eventually relocated their eyes "inside" their bodies, like he did, as part of adapting to live in 3D space. "Magic? Surgery? Divine intervention?" IDK—the exact mechanisms of how they did this body modding isn't a plot point I'm likely to explore. Bill made the change very quickly and immediately, because he WANTED to explore the third dimension and wanted a body that better accommodated that, and also because destroying his dimension came with a huge power boost and so he could just change himself like that. Guys like Kryptos or Hectorgon probably had to do it another slower way.
There might be other surviving shapes out there who didn't join Bill's crew, and some of them might still keep their eyes on their sides, so it's not a mandatory or universal change. But at least the shapes Bill still hangs out with apparently thought it was a good idea.
I feel like a human asking "is hugging with a line kind of awkward" is sort of like a snake asking "is hugging with humans awkward? Since they can't wrap each other up with their whole body? Like, that's gotta be limiting, right?" From a snake's perspective, humans hugging might be limited, but humans don't think so because we don't conceptualize hugging the same way that snakes do, and we invented the act of hugging in a way that's convenient to us; and from a human's perspective, hugging a line might be awkward, but shapes don't think so because getting your arm around a long flat surface is the normal way of hugging to them. They're just used to it. And also used to not squashing each other's faces. Unless it's a really tight hug.
Now, ALL OF THE ABOVE being said...
Most of this probably isn't gonna be directly explored in the fic! I can't think of any reason in the fic why I'd stop and talk about why shapes are colors (unless like Mabel asks or something lmao). But like, Kryptos is blue, and Bill is gold, and Bill's mother is the same color he is, and these things will probably get passing mentions in the fic, and so if you read that in a fic you can guess that the author probably headcanons "the shapes come in different colors" and "color might be hereditary, since mother & child are the same color" and "the characters don't talk about having had to paint/dye themselves or anything, so maybe they naturally come in those colors?" but like I'm not likely to talk about it directly! Same goes for most other aspects of Bill's home society that aren't directly relevant to the kind of story I'm trying to tell.
Which means: this post, outside of the fic, is what I'm currently thinking I'll do. But if I don't actually talk about this in fic, what I've said in this post is probably still true: but what's MORE TRUE and MORE IMPORTANT is "if I didn't bring it up in the fic itself, it's not something necessary for you to know to understand the fic." For example, if I don't bring up the Flatland shape hierarchy, then you're free to make whatever assumptions you want about whether one is/isn't there in the background: but not bringing up a hierarchy DOES mean that you're not supposed to interpret Bill's character/backstory on the assumption that a hierarchy had an important, measurable impact on his life. If it were important to the fic, it would be in the fic.
I've said in a few other posts that I don't want a single part of this Gravity Falls fic to require the audience to know any story except Gravity Falls. That applies to Flatland, too. You don't have to read it to understand what I'm doing with Bill's backstory. Any worldbuilding from Flatland that I want you to know, I'll bring up in the fic; and therefore any Flatland worldbuilding I don't reference in the fic isn't necessarily canon to the fic.
(That doesn't mean I won't still answer headcanon asks that aren't directly relevant! I love headcanon asks. It's just that I know that people will probably read my fic assuming "if the author doesn't explicitly mention X, then the way the fic handles X is probably exactly identical to Flatland and we should make assumptions based on that." I'm trying to prevent that! It's actually the opposite: if Flatland does X and I never mention X, that probably means it isn't the same in my fic.)

So I've been thinking about the lack odmf representation of aspec people in media and how a lot of the community seem to project aspec-ness onto non-confirmed aspec characters.
I don't understand it. Like if the character isn't said to be this then why try and make them that way?
I do have a theory on my difference in opinion. I am black. When I look at a character who is decidedly not black me projecting ain't bringing the possibility of a magic race change. If I want to see people who look like me in my media I have to actively seek it out or accept my lack of representation.
It feels the overwhelming majority of the queer community online is white. White characters are everywhere. You would be hard pressed to find 3 shows with no white people. White characters have (what feels like) all the representation you could ask for. Want a gay romance show? Heartstopper. Want a strong female MC in a book? The entire YA genre. Hell it seems the few disabled characters are all white. So it seems to me that when white people see that weird lack of "this is not me" they bend media to fit them.
Let me be clear I don't find anything wrong with that. If you wanna headcannon a character to be aro or demi or whatever you do you. It's just not something I do or understand.
This sorta rant could probably be worded better so if anythings unclear you can tell me! I just want to share my thoughts on this because it's been bugging me and also interests me. The ways race and ethnicity affect how we interact with media and how a lack of representation impacts a common culture despite the diversity you could find if you look.
As I see it, headcanoning any given character as ace or aro is just as valid as headcanoning them as any other orientation regardless of how they're presented in canon. Look at Phil Coulson and Clint Barton, for example--Clint is canonically married with children and Coulson supposedly has a musician girlfriend, but that hasn't stopped people shipping them based on a single radio conversation in one movie ten years ago.
You're absolutely right that there is far too little representation of non-white minorities, and I agree that we need more. If you have any media recs that will help fill that gap, I'll be happy to boost them. I have shared posts about Black, Brown, Indigenous aces and aros, but as a (mostly) white person, I want to avoid speaking over voices like yours and amplify them instead. But, yeah, the "I am uncomfortable when we are not about me?" bird definitely comes into play in the white community, whether queer or straight.

As a random person who likes to come up with headcanons, let me send a few your way. I don't know if they'll be any good, but it at least is fun to think about. -I feel Emmet takes a LONG time to hate someone. like for him to legitimately hate a person, means that they have had to do something absolutely unforgivable. A deep personal betrayal, attempting to steal from someone, or attempting to steal a pokemon.
-I imagine he's more likely to forgive events that are accidents. Since you mentioned it was for a fic where your oc was responsible for Ingo's disappearance, I'd specifically imagine the circumstances are a big part of his feelings. If your oc intentionally and deliberately did this, or if your oc accidentally caused these events to happen, he'd probably react very differently.
I imagine his anger at the lowest level is a lot of petty things. things like slowing down the train or causing a brief delay to make them late for work. At his highest level, if he were to actually fight someone, he would be ruthless. He likely wouldn't speak, just sheer rage stealing his voice.
(This could in theory cause problems with pokemon battles, Were he might not be giving commands but using hand signals. might take a moment before he could compose himself for that. )
he probably would hold himself back though, if he thought your oc has information he needs. (Such as were ingo is, or how they are doing, ect. I haven't actually read your fic. But now I really really want too! May I ask for a link?)
Ohohohoho I love all of this!! Big brain ideas!!
Definitely will want to throw down, only thing would be when he's not working or not at the station. I think it'd be his harsh boss tone that would come across to ask to move to a more private location? Outside the station? Fists first questions later
I also adore petty Emmet! It's so funny to me! Making the train slightly late, or finding ways to inconvenience someone is so good. Disable the person's subway pass so they have to wait at the counter kinda thing lol or putting garbodor specifically near them so the stink is on their face
And yeah! The fic can be found here :

just say good enough and go
I saw a post, I won’t link to it and don’t need to, where someone had sent an ask to a person whose specialty is elaborate scientifically-justified headcanons about fictional creatures.
and I’d say probably the asker was well-intentioned, but the gist of it was, “why bother making up such elaborate things! Just, you know, make up something plausible, and say it’s good enough, and get on with your life!”
Of course the person who takes all this obvious joy in making these incredibly scientifically-justified complicated backstories about how fictional creatures could plausibly work in the real world was furious at this, and justifiably.
And it just made me sort of mad and sad. I mean, let’s back up, the asker probably didn’t mean any harm, and yes, there is something to be said for not getting oneself hung up on the nitty-gritty of a project. This is, in fact, how I, with a learning disability and a shockingly inadequate scientific education, do most of my creature-building. I make something up, I make sure it has some kind of consistent rules to it (because, as Asimov(?) said, “if everything is possible nothing is interesting”-- you must always put limits on things, if only to make the story have some genuine interest to it, some real stakes), and I move on, and only refine it if it’s not sturdy enough to bear the story.
But-- there’s nothing wrong with devoting more effort to something. Sometimes, the harder you work on it, the more interesting it is! And if you have the capability to really pour a whole bunch of talent and interest into a thing, why the fuck would you not do that??
Can you imagine, if someone said to me, “I don’t write longfics. There’s no need. Just do a oneshot, and go!”
Come on. Or, “I don’t write fics. Just do a headcanon post, and call it good!”
oh my god. “I don’t color my art. just do linework, and call it good!” “I don’t do linework. just make a sketch and go.”
Like. There’s no wrong way to do art, and absolutely, if you’re an artist with an ambitious vision who realizes that the project has ballooned in scope and is in danger of overwhelming you, scale that shit back! Break it down a little! Don’t hurt yourself! Do manageable chunks! Don’t overcommit! This is all fine and sensible advice.
But like also. if you’re a person who likes art. Don’t tell an artist not to do their art. Don’t do that. Goodness sakes, don’t do that.

Criminal Minds teacher au let’s go
Okay, Mr. Hotch: History and the upper level English
Mr. Rossi: psych and like English I and II
Ms. Emily: French and Spanish
JJ: counselor and communications
Ms. Garcia: tech and computer science
Dr. Reid: upper level math and science plus an art class
Morgan: music and gym
Random headcanons:
They all visit each other’s classes constantly
Emily is Morgan’s unofficial teachers assistant for gym
JJ hangs out in Garcia’s a lot and just sees what her and her class is up to
They’re pretty much always doing what they’re supposed to but on the talking side of things…
Ms. Garcia does occasionally mention her crush on Morgan
Strauss is the principal
She never does anything that’s really antagonistic to the teachers but she just makes them uncomfortable
Especially Mr. Hotch
He’s sort of a strict, but helpful and good at teaching kind of teacher, but they just don’t like each other for whatever reason and it’s super noticeable whenever she does her rounds of checking up on classes
After Mr. Gideon retired from being the psych teacher, Rossi took his spot, and Dr. Reid filled his roll as the chess club supervisor
Ms. Garcia runs the drama club
She has the cutest room imaginable
It’s just like her office but bigger
Her, Ms. Emily, and Dr. Reid run the GSA
Ms. Emily is pretty laid back until people start misbehaving
“I have been stabbed, died, and been revived before, but I can’t deal with you kids making a dix-neuf joke one more fucking time, now sit down.”
Reid once subbed for Rossi’s English I class and had a panic attack like ten minutes in
He still doesn’t understand how Rossi can get a bunch of fifteen year olds quiet
The main thing he does is just go “Who’s written like five books here, and who hasn’t? I think I can teach you something you don’t know about English.” And the students have gotten tired of arguing with him
Reid also had the whole migraine endeavor in this au
They were later discovered to be stress migraines, but before that he just kept going to classes
He lets students eat in his room for lunch, and they were curious what was up with him when they came in, and all the lights were off
Of course he brushed it off, but most guessed correctly
After school that day, Hotch managed to convince him to stay home the next day
Hotch took over his math courses, JJ had his sciences, and Garcia was the best substitute art teacher imaginable
JJ is like the nicest, most laid back teacher that people just trust in and want to listen to
Just be warned that she also teaches self defense classes with Morgan on the side
In other languages, Ms. Emily swears constantly, but she tries to keep it more professional for when she’s speaking English
Dr. Reid has a bad habit of getting off topic when teaching specific topics he’s super interested in
Morgan always has music playing and it’s either 90’s hip hop and rap or 2000s pop
Pretty much everyone hates it at first, but they get used to it soon enough
Garcia has a yearly project of making your own videogame, and at the end of the year, there’s a huge tournament with all of them and a large amount of candy is on the line
She gives out candy all the time, but she saves the good stuff that tournament
She also plays music all the time and it ranges from soft indie to hyperpop
Reid absolutely hated Ms. Emily when she was hired, but now he just sort of walks into her class when he has the time and makes comments in Russian
None of the students are sure how many languages she speaks
She has definitely brought Sergio before
He isn’t super well trained but it’s just more of the fun yknow
Emily once stubbed her toe so hard she broke it and proceeded to throw out every swear she could think of, all in languages other than English
Dr. Reid fights hard to help any students of his or that he encounters at all that aren’t being helped with learning disabilities or anything with their mental health that’s stopping them from being a better student
JJ definitely helps him with this, being the counselor and all, but she doesn’t have the same aggressive passion for it
Aight this is really long, so I’m going to stop for now, but I love this au, so I might make more to throw at you later

I absolutely love your Hollow Knight headcanons, and I have a question because I'm curious what your thoughts on this are: do you have any headcanons about Lemm? What's his deal, where did he come from? Furthermore, how do you think the interaction would go if he ended up meeting Quirrel at some point?
Hollow Knight is one of those exciting SpIn franchises for me where if I don’t have headcanons about a particular character I’ll string ‘em together pretty quickly because I just like the world that much.
Lemm, incidentally, I have thought about! So I’ll just toss out a sorta randomized tasting platter here under the cut.
Lemm offhandedly mentions other relic seekers but rather than a scholarly order he suggests they’d be jealous of him or compete with him, so he clearly has peers. He also tells Ghost that if they want to move into the City of Tears he’d prefer they pick an empty building AWAY from the one he’s taken over.
He’s shown to be finicky, obstinate, and argumentative- possibly other relic seekers are closer to each other than they are to him- but even when he really, really wants something from Ghost, he’s fair with them, and he is honest with them about how much each is worth. (He doesn’t try to con you on the arcane eggs, and is sincere about how much it means to him.) He also seems to actually enjoy Ghost as an audience, and like talking about it. The description for the Void Idol suggests that Ghost potentially hangs around Lemm and learns from him more than we necessarily ‘see’ in canon.
I interpret Lemm as a wholly mundane sort of bug, no magical aptitude, but as someone who is quite brawny and physically powerful. I just like the idea that in some kind of modern supernatural AU he’d be the ostensible normal everyman keeping up, frustratedly, with all of this mystical stuff happens but then they get ambushed by a zombie and Lemm just lays it out. Overall this guy’s about as much of a desk jockey as Indiana Jones- he mentions doing long treks through the city avoiding husks.
So, to spin what I imagine might be a probable backstory; he seems less like someone who’s accustomed to loneliness or isolation, but rather someone who seeks it out. Possibly grew up in a big family with a lot of siblings, or otherwise a very rowdy environment where he felt like not much room was made for his interests and passions and him having things the way he wants them. Isolation alone doesn’t make him happy, though he seems the type to insist he is (not after neighbors, and all)- really, more than anything, he wants to be listened to and feel like someone is paying attention to him, I think.
He seems to be highly educated and may be something of an elitist snob about it at first glance, but, again, feeding into a kind of defensiveness.
Possibly his interest in history is a kind of compassion? He seems obsessed with the Hollow Knight and the identity of the Five Great Knights, so his own fear of being forgotten (?) / resentment at being overlooked may be something he tries to extend to others. He seeks those who were obscured by history. He’s more cynical about the Pale King than he is about the knights, but even then, he talks about the King’s Idols like he wonders who that person was, as well.
So, yeah, I like this mental image- young Lemm coming from an aristocratic family (his character colors match those of the aristocrat husks) but an overlooked ‘middle child’ too far from the inheritance to feel like he mattered much and entering some kind of major academia institution to prove himself and seek acclaim, only to become irritated and disillusioned with that / in part make enemies for his argumentative personality- and then putting everything he had on his back and heading to Hallownest because he’s out of patience with it all.
Which leads me to... Quirrel.
Quirrel is a living relic and he is an overlooked witness to an erased chapter of Hallownest’s history- the fate of the three Dreamers, and, through them, the Hollow Knight. He’s a key witness to the exact subject of Lemm’s obsession and a record who was not really purged, even if the pieces are in disarray, and wander in and out of his recollection.
Unfortunately rather than a tablet or archive Lemm can pour over and delve into with all of his skills, Quirrel is a person with feelings and opinions, and some of them are that, as an academic, Quirrel has a very different stance to Lemm.
Quite simply, Quirrel’s perspective seems far more transformative than curatorial. He emphasizes seeing things with new eyes and open awe. He’s happy that he forgot much of himself, even for a time, that he could experience it all new again. The past should serve the future. This seems to be a mentality he shared with Monomon, who when she herself is ‘the past’, is actively motivated and seeks to disable her protections and help Ghost end her life in order to ensure a future- the very reason she became a Dreamer in the first place.
Quirrel’s entire story is about letting go. I don’t personally read his conclusion as an act of suicide, but rather, the symbolic death of Quirrel the Archivist- the last tie he had to his former life. So he plants his nail on the shores of the lake, and leaves to be a new person- to see what comes next with new eyes. He cared about Monomon too much to not carry her with him, to not come back to see her off, but with that done, what he did as part of this ancient magical kingdom really doesn’t matter to him anymore. The people he cared about are gone. He’s going to look forwards and move on.
Assuming he encounters Lemm specifically after this point, this would scientifically speaking drive Lemm up the fucking wall.
Quirrel doesn’t tell and Lemm usually doesn’t ask but that idiosyncratic habit of just spouting off knowledge of ancient worlds and people and shrugging it off, like, well, that’s an interesting anecdote isn’t it! and Lemm is just, no, come back here you bastard don’t depart on a tangent about wrought iron infrastructure this is my lifework we’re talking about.
It’d be a certain amount of comedy but in another sense they have great potential to learn from each other. Quirrel very much surrenders unto the flow in many ways- which is powerful in that it’s probably protected him from the plague for a long time, his ability to let go rather than being tempted down dangerous paths by stray dreams- but, also, it’s clear from his voice and body language that losing Monomon cost him more than he wants to examine; his willingness to move on might be him being a bit dismissive about his own grief.
Lemm, meanwhile, has maybe spent his entire life up to this point doubling down so hard that he’s broken friendships, estranged family, and pissed off colleagues. This stuff has to matter. Someone has to listen to him. He has to know who these people are that disappeared off into the world because it isn’t just as good as they weren’t there! They knew things! They changed things! They did SOMETHING and if no one else wrote it down, he guesses that’s his job! It’s the only way he knows how to care about things.
So Quirrel lets go a little too much, including things he’s not actually over, and Lemm clings to things to such a degree that it seems to have driven him to isolation, even when he’s happier with someone to talk to about his work.
Also one of them’s a samurai and the other’s a self-taught pugilist who isn’t above cracking some skulls and shells with weighty antiques so if you happen to end up on the wrong end of both of them at the same time, heaven help you.
Possibly, at some point, Quirrel concedes the Madam probably wouldn’t have wanted her archive to rot when the living could make use of it and starts a transcribing project and Lemm goes absolutely fucking ape.

i am thinking about xephos and boy howdy
i have. a lot of headcanons about the jaffa factory trio. mainly lalna because [points at url] but also xephos. xephos is SUCH an interesting character to me. so here’s my take on him:
this man crashlands on minecraftia and has Nothing to his name. absolutely nothing. but he meets honeydew-- he gets a friend. he gets a constant companion and theyre Inseperable. he meets lalna, too, and the three of them become a team. xephos would do absolutely anything for them.
and then voltz happens, and xephos sees his close friends-- his family-- in danger. all the time. lalna loses an arm because of a reactor explosion that might be his fault. theyre constantly under threat of nuclear attack and could be wiped off the map at any moment. the world nearly ends because of sipsco fucking around, and its a miracle theyre able to deal with the red matter explosion before everything’s destroyed
xephos and lalna found yoglabs. or, well, xephos does, and he brings lalna on right away like how he’d brought him on right away for voltz. honeydew comes later-- xephos doesnt want to risk him, not until everything’s in place. not until he’s got a plan. xephos is afraid of death, and he’s going to fix it-- not by overcoming his fear, but by overcoming death itself.
and he tries Everything. every mod he can think of, even shit like dark magic, just Anything that could make it so he doesnt lose what he has now. until, finally, he thinks hes got it-- clones. copy the memories, copy the physiology, and even if someone dies they can be brought back. it doesnt matter if they’re not The Real Honeydew or The Real Lalna or even The Real Xephos, because theyre alive and thats what matters. they dont need to be scared anymore! he doesnt need to be scared anymore!
except perfecting cloning takes a long, long time, and lalna’s the one that decides to be the player test subject. xephos could’ve strongarmed anyone into it, but lalna was the one working on clonesec already and lalna decided hey, he’s right here, he might as well do it himself, right? except it keeps going wrong and there’s so many defective clones and so many failures and it’s slowly driving him insane trying so, so hard to get this right but seeing himself mangled and dying so, so many times. xephos worries about him, he really does, but lalna’s convinced he’s got this and xephos believes them and at this point they’re both deep in sunk cost fallacy. this Has to work.
and it does! the master clones work. lalna’s got a few spare lalnas running around, but that’s fine and won’t bite anyone in the ass later and it’s not like they can tell each other apart anyway and they never cross paths with how big yoglabs is. except something in lalna’s changed, maybe because he saw something in xephos change, and he doesn’t want to go through with this anymore. is it really right to put control over respawn in xephos’s hands? he can just choose to disable respawn for people he doesnt like, after all! or what if something goes wrong in the respawn system and someone gets hurt or dies forever? what if one day it just Stops Working and the failsafe everyone’s taken for granted is Gone?
xephos thinks lalna’s being unreasonable. lalna’s begging him to reconsider, that of course he wouldn’t want to shut down the project he’s been working on for months if he didn’t have a genuine reason to. xephos looks like he’s going to give in, and lalna relaxes, only for xephos to trigger an emergency alert, that a scientist has gone rogue. lalna doesnt understand, he’s just going to get in the way, he doesnt understand that everything xephos has been working towards has been for HIM. for lalna, for honeydew, for rythian for zoeya for nilesy for lomadia for sips and sjin and EVERYONE and he cant have lalna getting cold feet. he cant risk lalna sabotaging everything. he just cant.
so lalna gets put in a box. xephos comes up with a cover story. everything continues. honeydew joins the staff, and starts calling out everything yoglabs is doing wrong, everything xephos is doing wrong, and xephos doesnt care because hes still doing this for him, isnt he? honeydew just doesnt get it. this is, and always has been, for him. xephos is keeping him safe. sure, maybe things get out of hand sometimes, but dont worry about it. just stop worrying! its okay! its all going to be okay in the end!
hes going to take down the government and take over the world and sure, maybe thats evil of him, maybe yoglabs is slipping from morally grey to solid black, and maybe the mind control and memory alteration and all that is solidly fucked up, but its to keep everyone safe. xephos can handle it. xephos can do all of this for them, but they wont fucking trust him. they dont fucking trust him, and he hates it because he’s a good person! he’s doing the right thing! he’s doing it FOR THEM, why dont they fucking understand that?!
xephos would do EVERYTHING for them. sometimes they get hurt in the process. he rationalizes that away, too-- none of this is permanent, all of it is going to get better soon, they just have to trust him.
but they wont. they wont fucking listen to him, and xephos is just gonna have to keep taking matters into his own hands.
(xephos is a man who makes mistakes. he makes so many mistakes, over and over and over, and eventually those mistakes are going to end the world. don’t worry about it.)

There's a character in a fandom I'm in who's chronically tired, but mentions staying up all night sometimes when focused on stuff. Some people attribute them to being adhd or otherwise neurodivergent, and have a hard time when I or others suggest that they're diabetic, suffer from ms, or have other physical ailments that contribute to their exhaustion. They seem to think these headcanons get in the way of their view of the character.
I’m so sorry :( Thats a shame. It absolutely shouldn’t get in the way of their view of the character, especially, because, like, do people realize people can be both physically disabled/chronically ill and be neurodivergent? We’re not all neurotypical lmao.
I can use myself as an example even in this context (of chronically being tired)! I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, I have chronic pain and chronic fatigue that comes with that. I’m tired, I have to sleep a lot, I sometimes start dozing off during things.
I also am autistic, and I am bipolar. I will hyperfixate on a project or will have an episode where my brain is too awake to sleep (even despite the physical fatigue). Because of my neurodivergence, I also usually can’t fall asleep without medication because of my brain being too active.
There’s a real life example of a character being chronically tired (because of chronic illness) and sometimes staying up all night working on something (because of neurodivergence). (I also sometimes stay up all night because of pain or symptoms from my chronic illness as well).
Hell, I’m a university student, I know plenty of neurotypical peers that stay up all night sometimes to finish a project or study or meet a deadline. So a character like you described could just have chronic fatigue from an ailment/disability.
I’m so sorry you have to deal with people dismissing headcanons of chronic illness/disability because they think it gets in the way of neurodivergent headcanons. It’s unfortunate how things like this happen and people are unwilling to let people headcanon a character being disabled or chronically ill.

re: your post on associating Viktor's GE with being transgender, i just want to say that was a really well-worded post in my opinion and i found myself agreeing with you, even as someone who likes to think of Viktor as trans. you didn't change my mind per say; more accurately you put into words something that i'd been quietly considering when i thought more about the relationship people have with identifying Viktor as trans. i think the idea of bending biology to your own will is one that (1/?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
//Hey anon! I gotta say I was a little surprised to see 3 messages in my inbox, but these are about the neatest 3 I think I could get. (Especially after I stared at that post for like 5 days wondering about whether or not to post it oops.) I’m putting my response under the cut for the sake of keeping the dashboard less clogged up.
One of the really interesting things about Viktor that I’ve seen throughout my time in this fandom (since like 2014... oof) is how strongly people relate to him and identify with him. I mean, I’m not going to count myself out of that - I draw upon some of my own experiences to fill out aspects of his character, and aspects of his canonical story have resonated with me for years (although I relate to them less nowadays, and in a much healthier context) - but it’s really interesting how he has this sort of sticking power that most other champions don’t seem to. I think that it’s great to have a character that people can relate to, but it also does worry me that so much of this relatability comes out of his tortured relationship with himself and humanity as a whole. Far be it from me to use that as a point of psychoanalysis on Viktor fans or something stupid like that, but it is a point that worries me when I see people holding up Viktor as a character that they relate to/project onto/idolize in some aspects. I just hope everyone’s doing okay, I guess.
I think that Viktor’s themes of rebirth/self-reinvention and moving past weaknesses/the judgment of others is maybe more relevant than bending biology to one’s will, but that’s also because I’m a more than a little “eh” about the idea that to be trans is to inherently always want/crave/etc. physical transition. But I can certainly agree that your viewpoint could cover that of a lot of people, especially folks who have a different approach to their gender than me. (I’m one person, after all.) I’d also caution a little bit against using the word “transgenderism” (I’m sorry, I really don’t mean to sound like I’m scolding you) just because it’s often used in pathologizing contexts... But anyways, that’s really the only bones I had to pick here, and they’re very small anyways. They really don’t take away from your points at all, I’m just being One Of Those People.
And yeah, on the subject of liberties from canon, I think that my own take on the GE is pretty um... Not what Riot was probably originally intending, because what Riot was originally intending sure does have some eugenicist undertones about like, removing disability and “streamlining” the human form, with the implication (or at least what many people take as the implication) that it’ll happen against people’s wills. That’s partially why I write my Viktor as having traits that are non-typical (neurodiversity through autism, his genetic condition that’s Waardenburg’s-adjacent and results in the white streak in his hair/ symbrachydactyly on his left hand) that he doesn’t want to remove. (That’s why Full Machine still has four fingers on his left hand, in my opinion! It’s obviously not what was intended from an authorial standpoint - the real answer is that it’s just how modeling worked out - but I like that headcanon of mine.) It’s part of who he is, and he doesn’t see it as a negative - and that experience allows him to have empathy and understanding for individuals who wouldn’t want to have something about them “fixed”. Of course, Viktor isn’t a disability rights king or anything, but I think I’d expire on the spot if I wrote him direct-from-canon with his voice lines that are... very easy to interpret as eugenicist. (”Inferior constructs” is one of the ones that especially gets to me, as does “submit to my designs”. I choose to believe that these are... a persona, in an attempt to make him seem more threatening while on the Fields of Justice. He was made when Summoners were still canon, after all. But again, from an authorial standpoint, it’s just that he’s a crazy Russian villain who wants to Destroy Humanity.)
I mean. He still wants everyone to go full robot and be immortal, even if they choose to keep their emotions for some reason (yikes, Viktor), because the GE for him is about defeating death and stopping suffering because he’s got a real fucked up strain of idealism... but it’s not as bad as it could be. It still sucks pretty bad that his core belief is that people will come around to the GE eventually, if not this current generation than the next, so it ends up being less of a “I need everyone to become a robot now” thing and more of a “No it’s totally cool if you don’t want to be a robot, I’ll mourn the fact that you didn’t have to die, but maybe your successors will be more amenable to the idea” thing... which is, um, very not good, Viktor. But when you hit the point where you’re an immortal robot, you’ve really got nothing but time for the world to come around to your Completely Logical And Good Point Of View. I personally think that take is more interesting than just the “rah rah get in the robot remove your emotions whether you want to or not” take that canon gives, while still maintaining the fact that his worldview is pretty skewed and leads to pretty bad places.
Anyways, that tangent got away from me. Viktor cool being trans cool trans Viktor very cool the entire GE being the trans agenda very dubious x2. I tried to make it really clear in my post that I’ve got absolutely nothing against folks putting aspects of themselves onto Viktor, or just thinking that it’s neat if he’s trans, and I’m glad that came through to you.

Some rimmer headcanons under the cut Bc I was thinking about writing a fic but have commitment issues when it comes to actually writing
[[MORE]]
1. Rimmer is autistic and you can pry this out of my cold dead hands. Main ways he stims are his salutes and biting his knuckles. Huge parts of why he was bullied and treated poorly by his family come from the fact that he always has had issues sociallizing in the “”””normal”””” way and has related learning issues. Very obsessed with being punctual and following social rules that he doesn’t quite understand, a lot of his self esteem issues come from the fact that he knows he’s doing the right thing per social conventions but he’s doing it wrong?? Why is it wrong when he does his version of it, he’s trying his best?? Projecting onto a fictional character time: is very much the way he is in the show because he was able to repress a lot of the things that made him ‘obvious’ and now just appears to be an incredibly socially awkward/weird person as opposed to someone who just communicates differently. Likes repetitive, involved, logic and planning related type things (war strategy, board games, schedule and list making, engineering related stuff). Zero actual interest in Astronav type stuff but feels obligated to be good at it and has it drilled into his brain that it was the only way he was going to amount to something so he forces himself to try to be good at it, but that’s part of the reason he’s so crap at it. So used to being bullied that he feels like he needs to be above other people to protect himself because he’s so used to abuse of power being pointed at him.
2. Gay. that’s it, just gay. He knows it, he doesn’t deny internally as much as he did as a child. He’s absolutely absorbed so much homophobia from his family that he goes to great lengths to cover it up, but he isn’t unaware of it or so repressed that he’s convinced himself he’s not. All of the talk about women and porn and all that shit is a very elaborate and paranoid cover. He literally owns straight porn so when lister digs through his shit he thinks he’s found rimmers real porn and stops looking. Keeps gay porn stashed in some ridiculous hiding spot. Tells himself he’s verse but he’s really just a kind of dominant/pushy bottom. Did actually have sex with Yvonne because that was a gross and dodgy situation (on both ends but falls on rimmer because he was in control of his faculties) she was not fully aware of the situation but he was not the one who initiated it and essentially went along with it out of a lack of self respect and awareness for what was going to come of it (which makes him shitty because rimmer is still a scummy, miserable person). In his teen years and early twenties he thought maybe he could really ‘cure’ himself of it some way but everything he tried wasn’t worth it in the end and he just decided to never speak of it.
3: what made Ace different. Repeating a grade comes off like a joke when it’s explained that is why Ace is who he is. Really when he repeated that grade he was put into a remedial type class that tended to gather the kids with learning disabilities, bad home lives, trauma, etc (all the things that tend to make it harder for a child to suceed) and he was given new tools that boosted his confidence in being able to learn and socialize, maybe never got a proper diagnoses but just the proof that he could learn and do well if he approaches things in a different way was a huge game changer. Still had a lot of deep seated homophobia from his family and trauma from being treated differently from his brothers but it was easier to cope. Ace is still gay and the whole saving the damsel in distress and riding off into the sunset shit comes from following socializing as set rules instead of something involving nuance, follows the trope of a hero because if he’s going to go around saving worlds he’s going to do it the ‘right’ way, which is part why he has such an over the top ‘action hero’ stereotype vibe. Ace wishes that more of the rimmers he met were willing to listen to him because he just wants to drop a truth bomb and open of their potential. Ace still has a lot of unsorted issues, they just tend to be more internal than immediately obvious.
4: Relationship with Lister: incredibly, ridiculously angry and embarrassed when he realizes lister is attractive. Will never admit it but when Lister is first teaching Kryten how to break his programming he’s sad that no one ever taught him how to break out of his ‘programming’. His want to be friends with Lister is something he struggles with (early seasons especially) because he craves Listers respect but the only way Rimmer knows how to get respect is by outranking someone. Comes out to lister when he’s drunk. Lister has casually mentioned men in ways that he mentions women (but never directly says he’s attracted to men, so it just becomes a paranoid obsession in Rimmers mind, is he into guys or is rimmer just reading into it to much?) and brings up a story that is blatantly about a guy he’s dated (but rimmer still isn’t quite sure because it’s not a 100% straight forward statement) and Rimmer comments on his jealousy of lister being so open minded and nonchalant about men. Lister puts the pieces together from there and makes a point to try to make the environment of the ship more welcoming, still takes rimmer ages to fully come out. (Lister is the biggest bi on the ship and isn’t fully in the closet, he just doesn’t talk about it explicitly, people who know how lister communicates pick up on it, but most people just think he’s a friendly guy)
5. Clothes and presentation. This ones more for fun because I would love to see how rimmer would dress himself if he could get past more of his trauma. Shorts and cropped pants and tailored pants are a big one. If there wasn’t such a stigma on how gay men dress and style themselves he would be less afraid to wear something a little less baggy. Actually loves color (the uniform change from the khakis to the red, blues, and greens he wears later in the show is just absolutely fantastic. Not an accessory person, would rather just have a smooth, sleek look with well fit clothes and a pop of colors on neutrals. I think the cross dressing in the show doesn’t necessarily/purposefully come from a malicious place but is definitely a sign of the times, outdated ideas of humor and a lack of understanding of gender non conforming. Rimmer wouldn’t be opposed (well if he could get past his trauma (which is why we only see this trait in low rimmer or when he has the holo virus)) to dressing up in “””female”””” clothes, especially not the odd accessory or sexy outfit if it were a kink thing but has an overall more masculine sense of style. In a perfect reality where he was nurtured and encouraged I feel like he would identify and present in a more fluid way, but the cannon rimmer isn’t really capable of recognizing and expressing himself like that.
6: Sexual/romantic History. Oh boy. rimmer has been on dates with women, mainly to keep up apperences and make it look like he’s trying to be successful with women. Has no idea what good flirting sounds like because all the times someone has genuinely flirted with him he’s explained it away be convincing himself they’re just overly friendly or are trying to make fun of him (or he just doesn’t pick up on it). When he flirts it’s either completely over the top obvious garbage because he’s trying to get his point across or it’s vague small comments that really aren’t flirting because he’s attempting nuance or feels like he’s being to out in the open. Has had maybe one or two sexual encounters with men, always on shore leave as far from where the ship has docked as possible and always working to cover his tracks the entire time. By the time the stasis leak happens his sexual encounters with men had never reached penatration and really just amounted to some head and fooling around that he felt conflicted (but happy) about afterwards.
I probably have more floating around in my brain but I’ve really only just hit season three of my rewatch so this is all based on early seasons, some fanfic I binged, projection, and what I remember from the other couple of times I’ve watched the series.

Lol Junkrat being pro-life tho, would u mind sharing ur headcanons?
the junkrat thing is half serious LOL but ABSOLUTELY i love over-explaining stuff!!
these are mostly romantic HC’s and angsty HCs. i just like to sprinkle a little drama and trauma in some ideas.

The reason I think Junkrat MIGHT be pro-life is the way he handles some situations, example: whenever Mercy revives a teammate, enemy teammate will say "enemy revived" or will be generally shocked that the hero is alive again, but when Junkrat acknowledges it he says "Looks like they were just playing dead." Which gives me the vibe he doesn't really trust or believe Overwatch's universes definition of modern science. In Junkertown, you can see the place is pretty barren, the tech there is incredibly primitive compared to the other heroes technological advances. Another thing to note is how he treats Omnics, they fought for respect and strive for equality, they want to be acknowledged as an equal. Junkrat disregards Omnics and treats them as nothing but a talking heap of metal and scrap, which leads into my assumption that Junkrat is just closed-minded and "old fashioned." This kind of mentality can be found in pro-lifers, but I feel like Junkrat would have some respect for the person pregnant, he would prefer the baby to develop but would understand the circumstances if they could not provide or care for the baby, etc etc. So in my eyes, he is a pro-lifer but not the really obnoxious ones that don't want to listen to anyone. It was a joke, but I genuinely went into detail.

/flips to the next cue-card
Mei and Zarya are wlw. I feel like Mei doesn't care much for relationships but would be bi or pan, something in between- whilst there's no way Zarya is not a lesbian. Their new interaction is so cute, if you haven't heard it- it's like "Zarya how can you stand the cold?" "Let me borrow your jacket and I'll tell you my secret" or something along those lines. I also HC'd that Mei calls Zarya her Polar Bear as a pet name.
--
Moira and Mercy are gay, or had something in the past. Moira's new interaction with Mercy where she tried to acknowledge their differences, and still pushed to work together really gives me that "I miss you" vibe, but Mercy having strong morals always declines her. I kinda visioned them trying to work together to help people with some sort of physical disability together, but instead of helping people readjust to their circumstances- Moira experimented with genome editing and human genetic modification, which is incredibly immoral. But when Moira's tests were proven successful that's when Mercy and her had a falling out. Not to mention that spray they have of each other.

Ana and Reinhardt. I personally love talking about them and listening to them interact. One of my biggest things I really HC is the undeniable feelings between the two in earlier years together, but not saying anything to each other- after the Omnic Crisis when she started seeing Sam, Reinhardt and Ana remained close friends. I like to think Sam and Ana got married for Pharah's sake. After the Poland incident and when she came back (when being shot by Widowmaker- it caused her amnesia and she was treated in Poland) the feelings between her and Sam weren't the same- like it was a mutual decision for the both of them, as he probably moved on in between Ana's "death" and return. However, the feelings between Reinhardt and her remained and rekindled after coming back to Overwatch. As if it was a natural thing between the two, which is why they're so comfortable with one another.

Zarya and Hanzo would be very good friends if given the chance, they don't have any interaction between the two, but they're both blunt, strong-willed, and dedicated. I feel like they would have moments where they surprise each other of how much they have in common, and I would imagine as funny banter she would call him "little man" or something.
--
Reinhardt and Sigma, the bold and brash hero and the smart and strong anti-hero. If they went into Sigma's story a little more, Talon is very much known for brainwashing and puppeting their soldiers, and Sigma is no exception. His entire demeanor radiates kindness, a strong sense of protective tendencies and a very undeniable innocent vibe. I feel as if the retired heroes of Overwatch- the ones that aren't war-orientated and more down to earth, like Reinhardt, would help him realize that he doesn't belong in Talon. I feel like Sigma would be worried about hurting shorter heroes, so Reinhardt being almost the same height as him would create a sense of security and growth. It would also teach Sigma to be himself rather than the result of a project that's gone horribly wrong and honed by an organization. Another thing I like to imagine is Sigma and Moira, Moira as horrible as her experiments are- still has some sort of concern and dedication to her subjects, I imagine she tries to help Sigma control his powers with her help, and they become good friends. As if she can really be herself around Sigma.

Reaper and McCree, when Reaper took Jesse under his wing I can only imagine the sentimental relationship they both have. Jesse doesn't talk about his past that often, but I imagine he saw Reyes as a father figure, and Reyes saw Jesse as a son. While teaching Jesse everything Reyes knows, the experience and overall presence is what really made them close. After Moira's experiment on Reyes changes his psyche, and when he became more and more unstable- I assume Jesse saw what was happening to him, and seeing Reyes have more disregard for the life of the people he was trying to apprehend in Blackwatch's orders. Eventually Reyes and Moira rebelled against Overwatch, Reyes becoming unstable from his genetic modification- he let go and discarded personal attachments and holds distaste towards the people he used to care for, as if they were stopping him from reaching his full potential. Jesse was left with the memories of them together, he vowed to not work for Overwatch after Reaper went awol, explaining why McCree is hesitant to come back to help when Winston calls.
