Who wants to see more Rhage?
Tumblr media
JP!Rhea actually makes more sense than Rhage in this scene :
It's not Billy existence that pisses her, it's their choice to "assist" the one who defiled the Holy Tomb and disgraced the fallen Nabatean - someone who assists a person who only sees Nabateans as tools to be weaponised cannot be allowed to "exercise" the power of Sothis, which is why, Rhea will end them to remove "THE" heart - not Billy's, but Sothis' - aka the way through which Billy "exercises" the power of the Progenitor God.
Rhage?
Says that Billy's presence, not their choice, but their existence, defiles the tomb and disgraces the Nabateans - no mention of Supreme Leader here, Rhage rages at u :'(
And the biggest change "take back the heart" to "take back your heart" - no "at the very last" mention, nope. Rhage immediately passes judgment and wants to steal Billy's heart - it's still puzzling for someone who didn't play SS or VW, but imo it feels like it's more meant as a death threat, whereas Rhea is more less thinking out loud how to remove Sothis' power from Billy and how to "make up" for that blunder she did (aka, allowing someone who would make such choices to wield Sothis' powers) "at the very least", removing the crest stone should work, right?
(it always involves Billy's death, but fwiw, Rhea doesn't seem as concerned as Rhage about Billy's death, she wants to recover Sothis' powers more than kill Billy)
Tumblr media
"Pat, why Supreme Leader hates them? Is it because they're not humans?"
"N-No, it's because they're monsters! Totally in the biological sense, but also, and trust me on this, through their actions!"
"So it's not because their ears are pointy?"
"Nope!"

Lover Eternal: JR Ward, Black Dagger Brotherhood
Tumblr media
Ok, I take back what I said earlier about liking seeing the mind of these bad guys. It’s terrible and I’d like it to stop. O is disgusting. Rhage’s (and I’m still not over the spellings in these books) curse is a great tragedy. I like that he did something to deserve it—unlike Mary, he has some fault for it. On the other hand, the Scribe Virgin is definitely a jerk. But…once he’s told her he’s a vampire, and all the lesser stuff, why exactly does he hold back on explaining that he turns into an out of control monster and that’s why he isn’t having sex with her? I mean…does he think it’s gonna flip her out…more than she already is? Also, he has zero leg to stand on regarding Mary not being open. He claims her as basically shellan, but just won’t talk about the (literal) monster in the room with them??? I just lost someone yesterday to a blood cancer, so this was a tough read at some points, because I could really relate to her as she deals with cancer recurrence. I love how he addresses her scars and the way her illness has marked her body with reverence and adoration. Looking at that and realizing how strong she is, instead of thinking they make her weak, is a wonderful thing. Actually, I like a lot of the disability representation. Muteness, serious illness, blindness, autism. Ok, getting more about Zsadist than just scary stuff is pretty cool. Also I only just figured out who John is at the 76% mark. My heart sank so badly when I got to the bargin and realized how little was left in the book, and Rhage’s sacrifice was so painful and loving. Absolute agony. Also I would like to amend my earlier statement—the Scribe Virgin is an asshole. Like, with Rhage’s punishment that was really a punishment for all of them? I appreciate she changed her mind here, but the reason for it—something that hadn’t come up as an issue for either of them at any point, and without which she was willing to condemn Rhage to be Forever Alone—is all types of f’d up. I’ll take the happy ending! But holy cow they need a new religion.
Bottom line: I really like Mary. I love Rhage falling for her, it’s nicely angsty and super hot. I’m sucked into this series now.
Rating: five out of five unnecessarily painful rituals

Who is Pat, I’m so confused
"Pat" was named after Patrick Seitz, the voice director for the US VA of FE16, but it's an amalgation of the localisation team from Treehouse and the dude himself, who ultimately gave us the localised FE16.
Just like "Susan" or "Karen", they don't refer to real life persons lol, but it's a personification of the weird puritan choices picked by the localisation team, like removing some parts of Billy and Constance's ending suggesting they were holding hands intimately :

rhage literally points out to rath when he's 15 that mes is connected to the Hunt (he doesn't know she's the dead god's daughter/heir), and rath brushes it off. and then 15 years later she dies and awakens and comes back and rhage (dead, possessing rath) goes "what'd i tell you"

Plz bring piss to Poor Momo's soul :'(
More seriously,
It's less "trauma olympics" but more than... some complains sound ridiculous, or pretty privileged as in Karen complaining that her mom sucks because she only bought strawberry flavoured poptarts instead of buying vanilla flavored to the point she'd rather have no parents at all, to her BFF who happens to be an orphan who lost her parents and had been living in an orphanage since age 9.
(shit, isn't it basically what happened in the early chapters of a certain manga, to explain how two male characters have a bond while making the female one look like an insensitive jerk?)
FWIW, Hilda's "why should I work I have so many expectations to meet I'm afraid of disappointing people can't I let the slaves do the work I am supposed to do instead?" nonsense isn't related to Crust, but the biggest offenders of the "wah-wah crust system :(" are... "wah-wahs" that can/could be tied to the "traditional" woes of nobility, aka finding a suitable spouse to protect/nurture/strengthen the family and/or being seen as "entry gates" in the world of nobility, or as ways to climb a social ladder.
Remember Sylvain* blaming crusts because they made him the heir of House Gautier and now apparently women only want to sleep with him to become "Lady Gautier"?
UO's Alain had a similar reflection in one of his rapport conversations, wondering if people saved and cared for him because he was him, or because he was the Prince, but Alain doesn't suddenly blame the Unicorn or the Maiden for blessing his family!
Ingrid's woes are less about her crust, and more about her desire to be a knight, apparently clashing with her perceived duties as the heir of House Galatea - sure she's picked heir over her bros because she has a crust (iirc?), but can we say her bros wouldn't, if they had a crust, feel the same? It's the same Ephraim dilemna (swap mercenary by knight though), they want to do something, but have a responsability to their people, and in their endings the accept their responsabilities, because they can't condemn thousands (or even just hundred or dozens) of people due to their (perceived?) selfishness. Ingrid can even have her cake and eat it in some endings, especially the ones in the routes where she can talk to her dad, who supports her all the way.
Mary-Ann's story would be the closest to the Nabs... save that by this game's design, she can never know who was Blutgang and what crime Momo committed to become "cursed", so praying for his soul and/or salvation comes off as really upsetting (especially since Flayn'n'Seteth can be deployed in the same paralogue, and Worst Mom is still chillaxing in Billy's head).
Fodlan tried to scapegoat crusts for, well, classicism, nepotism, sexism (especially the Adrestian brand of sexism, remembers crusts bad bcs getting a bby with a crust was so important that Hanneman's sister died, but he and his "crust potent" sperm can leave Adrestia and still be a bachelor at his age without any issues coming from his family!)
But after realising "crust" is "nabatean blood" and, well, living Nabateans are targets for Supreme ideologies or Agarthans, it sure feels like Sylvain is complaining about poptarts when Flayn is sure that no one would ever want to befriend her because her ears are pointy, or how her Father and Aunt (?) hide their nature and try to protect themselves from people who will pull out the race card to explain why they're "BaD" and "cannot rule over humans", or why their race needs to be erased to "change the shape of the world".
We could have had Flayn pull a Ninian (aka building a relationship with a partner, but then freaking out at the last moment and saying it's impossible because of "reasons" and feeling like dirt for not telling everything/the truth to said partner) with something similar with Seteth (not revealing everything about him, and being distant/pretending to be obtuse because he cannot trust humans)...
But that'd imply giving more spotlight to those green-haired creatures masquerading as humans, and erasing them means HuMaNiTy would finally be free, so we can't develop them much, or develop on their "otherness" because, you know, everyone needs a nice, warm cup of tea.
--
*Sure Sylvain isn't his dad, and I'm glad this part of him was erased in Nopes, but man, imagine him having those kinds of thoughts when his mother is still pretty much around and became Matthia's second wife after the first one died to a Sreng invasion? Also, it's exposed that Matthias loved his first wife pretty much, so where the "wah wah women don't love me they just want the crust" comes from? Is he insulting his mother, or his step-mother ?
The more I think about the nabateans... the less I give a fuck about the crested students problems.

I'm reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and something I love about it is, these big tough male characters cry. And it's so refreshing to see these alpha male warrior characters show emotion and say how they feel. And they have their moments where they don't want to be seen as weak or want their brothers to judge them for being "sissy" or whatever. But when they do break down, their brothers are nothing but unwavering pillars of understanding and support. And anyway I love these intimidating, powerful but also sweet and kind vampire boys so much!
