You could argue that influencers more or less chose to do this though. Truman didn't know and was gaslit the whole time by paid actors. The mental toll it takes on someone would probably be about the same, though.

influencers themselves, sure - but their kids certainly didn't sign up for this, and aren't old enough to consent to it. the amount of "family" youtube channels that involve staged scenarios, centering on the reactions of children? horrifying.

so many kids now have their entire childhoods broadcast for the entertainment and profits of others, and that kind of shit will fuck them up, especially if the videos are still around when they're adults.

like, I said all sorts of stupid shit when I was a kid! because I was a kid! and if I had had a camera pointed at me 24/7, and a parent that made money off of my actions and reactions, that would have made the experience...hell, pretty much. just, a nightmare world where I could never grow and escape from childhood mistakes, because they'd be preserved for anyone in the world to see.

kids deserve better than this, that's all

it’s not at all my usual kind of show but as a Utahn I couldn’t not watch the secret lives of Mormon wives and holy fuck this show. Like, I need all you non-Utahns to know that it is a pretty accurate representation of Utah. I know women like this. The crazy part is that for the sake of the show they are explaining some of the weird culture things with Mormonism and some how hearing them say stuff out loud makes it worse even if I already knew it.

Also what the fuck do you mean, the mom doesn’t get to help bless the child? If I was Mormon that would piss me off.

My former post-supervisor really fucked me over and I've been unemployed for months. At this point I'm applying to jobs in grocery stores cause it's just dead dead dead out there. Winter is always the time of year you don't want to be without a film or series to work on but this just abysmal.

i picked a random below deck season to watch at work while i did collage packs earlier and i accidentally picked exactly the one where they were filming right as the pandemic started 😬

#when will i stop staying awake for 30+ hours at a time i am surely causing irreparable damage to my brain #i say this like it's a choice the reality is i blink and whole days have passed when my dissociation is especially bad #i feel so far from everything it all feels wrong and unfamiliar then again that feeling itself is familiar #might put on that james spader audiobook on low volume (low enough volume that i don't start focusing on his voice and keeping myself awake #in the process......)#maybe that'll help maybe it'll make it worse #i have a habit when listening to it where i'll hear him say a certain thing and think i Have to write down a timestamp to go back #to it haha #and that would keep me awake #i almost started a fire earlier accidentally while testing out one of those big ol tv's from the aforementioned (like a month ago) moldy #house down the street #the second i switched the power on it started popping and zapping at me and i swear i smelled smoke so i panicked and unplugged #it and lugged it outside and now i'm paranoid that somehow a slowly burning internal fire will start while i am asleep and spread from the #porch to the house. i mean not Start but Continue. if there is one to continue somewhere in there.......#it's a solemn life i lead #i need to try to sleep now. so i can wake up #so on and so forth #i need to purchase a fire extinguisher.
