apothecary diaries anon here again! yeeees, the amount of times i've thought 'this would make a great icon/meme' while reading the manga is amazing! pretty sure most of them are of maomao too haha. (very tempted to edit her and jinshi into the 'woman screaming at cat in restaurant' meme lol) aaaa, don't get me started on how female friendships are treated in fiction; a story app i play keeps on having so many 'rivalries' or 'pretended to be your friend but isn't' plots, but it's almost always with women! like, no, can't i just befriend the characters??? have lovely friendship scenes??? i cry

unfortunately, i haven't had a chance to watch the anime of apothecary yet, i've just seen gifs and screencaps of it. instead, i binged over 10 chapters of the manga when i first messaged you, then another 10 the day after lol. i think i know the triggering plot point you're talking about though; like you say, it's amazing how they put all these dark details in the story, but handle the topic well and sprinkle it into the world building/character backstories. i'm at chap 26 rn, and i'm super interested in a certain character who just showed up + their motivations. (ooh, i'll check out ascendance of a bookworm too; sounds like my cup of tea!)

ah, as for the light novels, i looked it up on amazon (the only place i know where to buy light novels in the uk) and there's a physical release date for next year! i understand what you mean abt LN vs manga collecting; i like having a physical book in my hand for novels, but having digital copies for manga.

Aniwkwkdkdk I REALLY NEED TO READ THE MANGAAAA maybe I should go the same route as you and just buy manga digitally and novels physically cause there were some manga I bought that I kinda regret buying physicals of. 🥲 (By that I mean I don't reread them as much and it feels awkward to read manga physically? Is it just me?? Maybe I got used to longscrolling in manhwa lol)

Right?? I can't judge the manga cause I haven't read it but in the anime, the tone is wonderfully executed and it's the right balance of exposition and pacing. WAIT WHAT REALLY?? OMG next year fr?!?!? if that's the case I'm gonna continue gatekeeping my digital copies and wait for the physicals! 😭 Thank you for this info!! (I only use my digital copies for annotating and for reading in bed. Idk ik I'm weird. If I really like the series I buy the soft copy and hardcopy wkjdkdkdkdk).

Honestly it's why I got tired of shoujo isekai. They always pit women against each other over some guy. It's so hard to find good series in that genre anymore cause they almost all have the same formula. I want my female MCs but I don't want any of the unnecessary catfighting. I just really hate how that side of the community has blatant misogyny cause you know fr they won't treat a morally ambiguous and handsome male character in that way. :/

it's scary to think of someone finding out I'm a little because I'm worried I won't be accepted, so I don't think I'd ever be able to do one. if that did happen I think I'd just be so excited to be accepted that I'd have fun no matter the activity!

BUILD-A-BEAR!!! it's so nostalgic!!!!!!!! when I was physically little I always wanted to dress up my bear and get them a friend and all the accessories but I was never allowed, whenever I have 'nuff money I wanna go there and do all that!!

I don't know much about astrology sorry, but astronomy is fun tho!! space is really neat, my favorite constellation is Orion and I like all the pretty colors that nebulas have

probably halloween because I get to dress up pretty and get candy and hang out with my friends!!

1) Introduce yourself and tell us how long you’ve been collecting Monster High dolls!

call me blue! i got my first doll (gooliope jellington) in late december 2015, but i began really collecting in earnest starting in 2016, so call it about 3 years 

2) How many MH dolls do you have?

very definitely over 200 probably at this point..... most of them are on display, but a few thrifted and boxed dolls are hidden away 

3) Is Monster High your favorite doll line? Why or why not?

that.... is really hard to answer. it’s definitely the doll line i enioy collecting the most, and i can pretty much say ‘yes, it IS my favorite!’ but there’s that little voice at the back of my head that’s saying ‘but you owe your love of dolls to barbie...’

4) Who’s your favorite MH ghoul?

ohhhh man i love howleen. i love her so much she’s so wonderful. 

5) Favorite Manster?

mm..... hoodude? heath? or.... honestly i do have a huge soft spot in my heart for jackson (even tho he is. a lot. and many of the people i’ve seen who are fans of his are. even more. not everybody tho!!! just. a sad majority....)

6) Do you own any dolls of your favorite ghoul and/or manster? How many?

i own a version of every howleen doll (inlcuding the reboot doll), and it was definitely one of the proudest moments in my collecting, finally having one of each. i have also thrifted at least 3 i think? and i have 2+ repaints of her. i have one heath doll (he was my second/third doll), one jackson that was thrifted, and no hoodude since he was an sdcc exclusive :( but i don’t think hes a great looking doll anyway, like i wasnt expecting hard plastic obviously but i was hoping for more than just a stuffed doll ya feel?

7) Do you own any playsets? If so which one(s)? If not, is there a reason?

i own the school playset (my niece gave it to me when she didnt want it anymore), the catacombs playset (still in box bc i dont have room for it lol), the 13 wishes dj set i guess its called?? and 2 of the fdc playsets. also draculaura’s car and bed, both cleo and frankie’s vanities, and the cam design lab, but idk if any of those count lol 

8) Of the original main ghouls (including Ghoulia, Spectra and Abbey) which is your favorite? Got any dolls of them?

ouch, okay, just make me choose then.... uhhhh i cant really rank them? i guess i would put frankie at the top but shes more default for me than anything else honestly. i dont really care for spectra tho so shes at the bottom whoopsie. also if operetta is also included (which it doesnt say she is but.) then i dont really care for her either tbqh anyway, yea i got several dolls of each lol

9) Favorite character with only one doll release?

off the top of my head im thinkin neighthan, but honestly all of the fusions are good and also all single release doll charas are good. OH i really like cupid too tho and also finnegan 

10) Character with too many dolls (in your opinion?)

spectra. idk i just!!! really dont like her i mean she has nice dolls but i can not make myself care about her. 

11) Any character you would’ve liked to see in a doll line that didn’t make it? (i.e. Lagoona in Sweet Screams or Draculaura in Power Ghouls, etc)

ok. i HATE gil. but i think his design was super good in gsr and i would have loved to see him as a doll. 

12) Any ideas you would’ve liked to see in a doll line?

oh worm ive been thinkin on this for YEARS actually, but get this: “Boogie Fever” - a disco inspired doll line. obv has twyla in it. also what if a line where they were in famous movies - frankie and gooliope in ghostbusters, and then other classics like casablanca and breakfast at tiffanys (i actually hate that movie tbqh but it is a classic) etc 

13) Is there a “grail” MH doll for you? If so do you own it?

mmmmmm pretty much all of the sdcc dolls, but i would love to have the home ick heath some day, since that’s the closest to a sig doll they have for him. i dont have him, but i do have one sdcc exclusive doll (the ghostbusters frankie) 

14) Thoughts on the cancelled Ever After High crossover?

neutral. once upon a time i was excited about it, but honestly i could care less now. part of the problem is that i would want the crossover to go a very specifici way, and part of it is that the eah fans are rabid. 

15) Thoughts on the 2016 reboot faces?

i mean. they are cute! super cute! but. they really arent the monster high i fell in love with, you know?

16) Thoughts on the 2016 “Monster Family” line?

weak. bad. the dolls are cute enough but the line is NOTHING. they didnt even make alivia look like her movie counterpart so like, what was the point.

mmm i LOVE all of the sdcc exclusives but i think the deadfast ghoulia, valentine and whisp, and hexacaiah and robecca are all super good.

ADULT DRACULAURA!!!! god i love her so much she really is so fucking gorgeous and i regret every day that i didnt buy her for like $50 when i got the chance. i do have like 2 of the skelita amazon exclusives tho

no, but it was the line that got me into collecting in the first place! i collect barbies, eah, dcshg, lalaloopsy, and so many more. basically, if i see a doll i like, i get it (if i have the funds to obviously). honestly i buy/collect anything i like ya know?

mmm... kind of? i thrift them when i see them, but i’m more into ooak dolls now tbqh. there are a few still on my list tho that i would love to buy, fuly complete and all that good stuff.

no real thoughts, because i cant think of any monster doll lines out rn? i mean, im sure there are some, i just cant think of them right now

uhhhhh everywhere??? threir character designs, lore, the fact that in original preboot canon normies and monsters actually know about each other, the lore, the messages it put out about embracing your freaky flaws and all that. monster high is/was just. such a completely amazing and wonderful series.

Do you believe in aliens? The likelihood that this is the only planet with life is so minuscule, there can’t be any other answer than there is life on other planets.

Do you drive and if so have you gotten in a crash? A few. The first in 1999 on the way home from New Orleans - totalled the car, but kept us from being injured and run over by a lorry. One in 2000, on freaking April Fool’s day, and it was ‘near fatal’, as I was dead on the scene and revived. One in 2014 on the way to my disability hearing, when mum was driving and a snow plow’s discharge made the car slide into a snowbank. The last was on election day in 2016 - we got rear-ended by a car going between 35 - 40 at a red light; the only reason it wasn’t worse is the light changed, and my ex was able to start pulling forward.

Do you like the smell of gasoline? No. It makes me utterly sick.

I've realized for the longest of time, I've portrayed an image that's not really me. It is utterly exhausting and it gives me social anxiety. A defense mechanism in projecting what I think I should be rather than what I truly am. Especially in social settings. I could give a dozen of reasons why I do this. Could it be that I had to hide who I was from my parents or I would be shamed? Was it the bad people in the drug world? I was constantly living in paranoia and fear. Was it because for all those years I used, I was running away from myself? Is it because I'm scared of people knowing how damaged I truly am and once I am no longer able to main this facade, my whole world comes crashing down and I disappear? I don't think it even matters. People don't give a shit and it dosen't help me much analyzing. Whatever happened, I learned how to pretend for years and after being dissociated from myself for that long I begin to wonder who I really am. Now that I am sober I am forced to face years and years of emotion. It wasn't recently that I finally was able to look in the mirror and accept things for what they truly are. I was pretty happy with my progress when I worked for Amazon. I always compared myself because that's what I was taught. I was in that life for 12 years. I overdosed twice, been robbed 4 times, SWAT team came to my house, and went psychotic in and out of hospitals. I did 20 months in rehab, accepted God, and climbed my way from delivery to dispatch and made a great salary. Now that I look back I see I have potential and I'm damn proud of what I accomplished even though I still failed. I went through the valley of the shadow of the death to get there and I'm done comparing myself. Everyone has a different destiny. If pre-election is true then I must ask myself, why did God choose me? He must see something valuable in me. The awful truth is I am now behind but the truth will set me free. This is not the life I envisioned as a kid when the world was at my fingertips. Even if an amazing woman came along, I would not share this with her. She deserves better and so do I. I've seen some of my friends just settle with whomever but I refuse to use any girl. I'll never forget how my ex made me feel when she disposed me like an object when I was 26.

I must digilently grind for the next few years to become the man God wants me to be. I accept things for what they are now and it's time to heal my true self. This doesn't mean getting buff, dressing nice, looking organized, being charming, sounding smart, showing talent, acting overly religious, being funny or the center of attention and etc. These are superficial and skin deep. I'm talking about open heart surgery on the damaged soul.

First I'll start off by loving myself as a human being, not human doing. The world evaluates one's worth by what they've achieved but that's not how God sees me. I for one genuinely love all people. I don't care what color, social status, religion, or male/female. I want to connect with everyone on a deeper level. I literally feel like it's my job to uplift people because I myself have suffered so much. I am caring, encouraging, sacrificing, empathetic, passionate, charismatic, comedic, creative, adventurous, loyal, and naturally a positive person. I have some leadership skills. I am athletic. I am expressive. I am a writer. I am poetic. I am philosophical and have spiritual insight. I have some musical talent. I can be very interpersonal and build quick connections. I am definitely romantic but only the girls can vouch for this one 😀.

Next is the human doing part. We are the only creatures on earth that need purpose. The soul cannot be fulfilled without one. It is important to have purpose on many levels. Obviously for a Christian it's to advance the kingdom but one must contribute to society as well. I can't be doing labor work for the rest of my life and I refuse to sit in front of a computer screen. There's only one ultimatum left. Nursing! I'm going back to school. For years and years I've ran from my dream of becoming a nurse. I was in block 2 of the RN program and quit not because of grades but my addiction. Nursing is perfect for me and utilizes all of my good character traits. It is also the perfect hybrid between working on your feet, using your mind, and human interaction. It is also damn interesting to me. Human pathophysiology, microbiology, and human anatomy and physiology were some of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. If I become a nurse, I can specialize later on as an addiction nurse. I can then use my addiction experiences to help others.
