Now for the purely angsty, unfortunately most of those are locked behind a language barrier if there are any that aren’t relationship centered but I do have a few I love that have deep angst in them and a lot of whump in some cases. The Devil Snatched Me Away and Bite the Forbidden Fruit by HeadlessKing are both fantastic and have an undercurrent of angst and tension, both are SukuIta. The first is a mysterious fast burn romance where Yuuji and Co are ordinary humans and Sukuna is still the King of Curses, whom Yuuji has a past he cannot remember with. The second is Omega Verse and is twincest and how Yuuji and Sukuna are deeply codepenant and obessed with each other. Both are angsty and have Yuuji dealing with some identity issues.

Have any tips on writing Jonathan/Scarecrow? Or things to especially avoid? I don’t write cannon a lot but want to try with him for a fic I’m writing due to a fun scene I had in mind, plus scythe fighting is really fun. But it’s a bit intimidating to tackle one of my fav’s and a strong character like him. Also thoughts on Crane being immune to fear toxin?

Hey, I can help! Here's some general knowledge and tips you might find useful!

Jonathan, depending on the origin (year one, verses say, btas) he can either be afraid of crows or empowered by them. He loves to scare birds in general though and sometimes even has a crow companion. None of these choices are right or wrong, it depends on what you want to write

He lives off others fear, and even his own fear. Sometimes he takes the toxin just of feel fear. There's even canons were he's virtually emotionless from toxin overdose

Speaking of above, I personally hate the trope of Jonathan not being immune to his own toxin. Let's be real, he tests it on himself all the time and definitely has SOME kind of immunity. It's literally his baby, he's not going down if batman injects him with it. Sorry DC, but I'm different.

He is VERY SMART, one of THE smartest rogues if not literally the smartest. He's gonna use your words against you, he's gonna analyze you deep down and tear you apart from trauma to trauma.

Even so, he's had a lot of childhood issues. He is bullied by kids and adults like.So, it's possible to get to him just by mocking him.

OH. And don't forget the fact that he himself is a bully. He's the "it happened to me, so I will make everyone suffer as I did" type. The irony is not lost on him

He's not weak. If he can successfully use a scythe, he's fucking strong, it's just that he appears lanky and weak. It's all muscle I assure you. (Don't forget violent dancing -- see batman annual 19 for good references) He will use his looks against you in this way, don't underestimate him. (also, sorry DC -- he's built different)

As for what to avoid, well that's up to you. You don't have to make him scared of crows, or give him a bird friend. You can write him super dark and nasty, absolutely vile. Misogynistic, even. Some comics do that. (not that I agree, but I can see it being valid)

Honestly, just have fun, maybe use a handful of comics for inspiration. I'm of the mind that there is no right or wrong way to use comic characters like in the DC or Marvel verses, because SO MANY writers have written them and there's always going to be contradictions---and with that, someone will ALWAYS like what you have written. Not everyone will, but you don't need it to appeal that way, find your niche. That's how we prosper as creatives.

as for fic recs, i do indeed have a few...

idk if my taste in fics is similar to yours, but i generally like more introspective works with really good writing. the bsd fandom has a surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, given that the animanga is inspired by literary masters) incredible selection of works, unmatched by any other fanbase i've investigated.

my go-to rec is Three-fold Fate by devilrin (multi-chap, 60k, complete). the writing in this one KILLED ME. you know it's gotta be good when the author literally cites Ocean Vuong as inspiration lmfao. it explores the intricacies of canon-verse and dabbles into other aspects of bsd that aren't even explored (yet) in canon. brilliant writing and good skk shit, also with an interesting premise that really hit hard — i always go back to read parts of it when i want to spiral in my thoughts

the art of growing attached by hydref (one-shot, 6k, complete) is also really nice. soft & intimate, also in character in a very funny way

the choir's gonna sing by intimatopia (one-shot, 8k, complete) was really interesting, and i think abt it a lot. it explores dazai's ability in a super cool way that i haven't thought abt before, and now it's one of my fav interpretations. it also adds a depth to the skk relationship that i kinda adore. the writing is also brilliant, and the other works in the series hold a similarly high standard

StarshipDancer's skk series is also a goldmine of skk fics lol. the writing is solid and often very entertaining, i also love how they're both characterized

all the holes we had to breathe by airiena (one-shot, 18k, complete) is gorjus. it explores the dev of their relationship, and has some wonderfully handled motifs that made me writhe lol. very cathartic.

Always/Never by KhaoticEnby (multi-chap, 27k, complete) is one of my favs to return to. it's the peak of reconciliatory intimacy, and i enjoy how it gently explores skk's relationship. also very very cathartic and healing hehe

those are just 6 that immediately come to mind from my mountain of bookmarks aha. hope you enjoy at least some of em ;0 someday i do want to write for skk as well, they're just so captivating and wonderful... <3

One week from today, on July 7th, is a special day! It is the birthdays of two of my fav card game muses: the lovable gremlin Mokuba Kaiba & the heroic Signer Yusei Fudo! To commemorate a rare occasion as having two muse birthdays of mine on the same day, I'm going to be doing a little birthday event for them both that I'd love if you all participated in!

On the 7th, I'll be 100% for sure posting two special headcanon posts for both of these Cancer zodiac boys. These will be in regards to my HCS about their Futures, specifically what they do as adults. This will be post high school for Mokuba and post 5D's for Yusei! I've discussed some of these ideas in plotting, but I felt it right to put all the info out there (Esp for Mokuba as I have several ideas for his own path, esp depending on manga or anime canon) on their special day!

I'll also be posting special edits for the occasion! Perhaps one of them together or one for each. Have not decided yet!

In addition to the above, I also hope to post other things relating to the two of them! However, to do that, I'm going to need your help! If there is any headcanon post or drabble prompts for these two boys for any of my available verses / timelines that you'd like to see (This can include stuff in relation to existing plots or verses we have as well!), please leave them in the comments here! I'll do my best to go through the suggestions and pick some of the ones I feel inspired to go ahead and do!

Oh wait wait!! What if it's Kalim instead, to match with Daisy's color palette and upbeat attitude. He could be the Desert Prince. Since Sarasaland is more like an empire than a kingdom(seriously why is it called a kingdom) imagine if that's the reason why Jamil works for Kalim for this au.

I hadn't thought too much for Kalim bc we were focusing on others but that sounds like a cute fit for him! I def had the idea for a desert prince since thats always a key area in Paper Mario games, but I never thought of Daisy! Instead of a Daisy, I think another flower name would be cute as a nickname? As for Malleus I haven't thought too much about him, but I have considered a couple ideas like there being a fae kingdom or him just being a literal dragon (since those are canon in the Mario verse too) One of my friends suggested the fae living on an island like the yoshi's but making it more western European themed with the thorns and fairies and castles!

The Thousand Year Door Paper Mario forest is one of my fav environments and that would be cool for inspiration!

before i started writing the cutesy pm dazai ones, i had an au where pm boss dazai and i were like... both on a mission to kill each other and then we fall in love LMFAOOO. OH WAIT ok so for my pm boss au, it's not really beast dazai bc in my head, oda still dies, and dazai decides to stay in the port mafia instead, and he kills mori and takes over so there's lot of angst there cause he's a little self destructive lmaooo. my role in that au was like a pm assassin at first, and then eventually i run the mafia with him tehe.

2. What made you decide to write this muse?

I'm not sure it was one specific thing? I started writing Carlos in July of 2017, and I think it was just that he was my second favorite character in the Anderson films, and he was a prominent character in my favorite Resident Evil game (RE3) and I just gravitated toward him.

Carlos and Nemesis/Matt were the first ones I decided to write in July of 2017, and then I started Kaplan in May of 2018. After that, I added Luther, the White Queen, and I sometimes wrote Alice and Becky as guest muses depending on the threads going on. So Carlos and Matt/Nemmy started things off as far as me writing in the RE fandom, and they're really my favorite characters behind Alice, who's my fav. I wish I could write her, but she's just never a going to be a character I can write to my own standards, like I feel I get her character way wrong and I don't wanna do that to her, heh.

But yeah, I really feel like I just wanted to write in the fandom and Carlos was one of my favs so I went for it, heh. 8. Do you genuinely want your muse to be happy? What do you think would make them most happy in life?

I do! Of course! He deserves to be happy, he's a great guy and he does so much for others to help them deal with traumas, survive the next day, even just physically get from point A to point B. He does so much and he deserves to get some of that back.

I think having a partner in life who is willing to follow him (not literally, philosophically) in his calling to be a protector and a shield between innocent people and the evils of the world... that would make him happy. I'm not saying Carlos wouldn't necessarily want to get married or having children, but he's not settling down until his old-ass body makes him do it years from now, heh. He's a guy who's gotta keep doing things, gotta keep putting himself in harm's way. Not because he wants the danger, injury, potential death, etc., but because he knows what war and catastrophes can do to people and he wants to be one of the ones who helps alleviate that, or at least who helps people through it. He wants to be that shield that protects, that weapon that attacks first while everyone else stays back, and that person who runs toward danger so others don't have to. He's just that kind of person. So I think if he can really bond with someone and have them by his side while he's doing that kind of work, that would be his ideal life.

9. Do you enjoy putting your muse through angst? What do you think would break their heart the most?

I doooo, but that's not specific to Carlos, I'm just an angst whore, heh. I tend to really like putting my muses in horrible situations. Having said that, I love doing that and then seeing them through to the other side for some amount of peace/resolution/happy ending... ish. XD

As far as what would break their heart... I mean, he was pretty heartbroken over the way Alice left him after Apocalypse. And I totally understand why she did, I'm not blaming her or anything, but from his point of view, after they had gotten very close, opened up to each other, and even developed a romantic/sexual relationship... she left without even saying goodbye. Without telling him why. It made him feel like he really hadn't meant anything to her at all, and he tried to tell himself that maybe she had good reason, but it hurt him in a very deep place and it was hard for him to feel better about it or to not assume that his first emotional reaction was correct.

He did feel a little better about it in Extinction when she tells him why she felt she had to leave (although she left out being forced to kill Angie, likely because she feels like it's just this unforgivable thing Carlos would hate her for, which of course is not true, heh), but for five years in between Apocalypse and Extinction, he was left with a broken heart, and it really affected him on a deep level. I would go so far as to say that's why he never pursued anything with Claire, because he'd been so badly burned by Alice.

10. What do you love about your muse?

How human he is. Here's this hardened guy who's been steeped in war and conflict since he was a boy, who's a badass soldier who can absolutely kill you, who should be so detached or cold or apathetic by now... and instead he's the kindest, funniest, warmest person. He's good with kids, he's kind and understanding of civilians, and he'd give his life to save someone he doesn't even know. I just find that so amazing? He's managed to keep his heart alive through everything and I really love that about him.

He's such a little shit, honestly. Carlos wears his humor like armor, he uses it as a tool to relax people in hard times, and he uses it to uplift those he loves, even when things are looking really freaking grim. It makes me smile, his playfulness and little jokes. His banter with Alice, Claire, Chase, L.J., etc. I love it, heh.

13. What about your muse makes you sad?

That he had to die so young and didn't make it to see the antivirus released and the world start to heal. Also... that he gave his life to get the others in the convoy to Arcadia, and then they were essentially all killed anyway. T^T

This is Carlos Oliveira, former paramilitary soldier, vehicles and explosives expert, and all-around great, reliable guy. =)

I... don't think I'm better than him in any way, really. I wish I could be that brave and selfless, but I'm a scaredy-cat, haha. I've had arthritis since I was two and my body is good for very little, so I'm not about to be as strong, athletic, or adventurous as he is. And I don't think I'd be as good as him in survival situations either, I mean let's face it, if I break out into a run, my knees and ankles will give out on me in two seconds flat, so I'm not outrunning any undead anytime soon, heh. So yeah, he's got me beat on everything, I think. XD

17. Why do you think you connect to your muse?

I've always been a sucker for paladin-types, I'm just gonna admit that right out of the gate. The honorable, protective types. I respect them a lot, even if people sometimes call them foolish, and I guess that personality type is something I aspire to? I don't... actually hit the mark, haha, but I do aspire to. So yeah, Ned Stark, Basch fon Ronsenburg, Carlos Oliveira, heh... same category of personality as far as always wanting to do the right, moral, good thing, and being protective of those smaller/weaker than they. I really like characters like that and I enjoy writing them, so that's definitely something that drew me to Carlos.

18. What aspect of your muse’s personality is most important to you? What aspect of your muse’s personality do you think is most important to them? Is it the same? Why or why not?

So I think his protector's mentality is absolutely central to who he is, but he'd probably say his sense of humor. I say that because, even with his sense of humor, he's always trying to protect others. Even if it's... telling a joke to get a scared little kid's mind off something. Or engaging in playful banter to break up the monotony and hopelessness of the convoy's day and situation. Those, to me, are still forms of protecting others. I see his humor as a facet of that. He would say humor is most important because not only is that how he helps other get by, but he is also helping himself to get through another day with that humor too. So to him, it's a very personal and essential part of his personality.

19. If you had to judge your muse and sentence them to a “fair” fate, what would your judgement be? Would you punish them? Reward them? How?

🚩🚩🚩 {soft vs hard blocking, people who selectively reply to one or two mutuals ~usually their hardcore ships~ and make others wait aeons, your least favourite fandom or oc type}

SOFT BLOCKING IS STUPID. Heres my thing with blocking in general, unless you are harassing me, making my space unsafe or uncomfortable, I block. Any other case, I unfollow. If you feel as if a mun, soft blocking is necessary because you dont want to interact with a blog feels a little silly? Like I only see popular muses who get endless interactions complain about having to soft block people when most people are interested in reading their writing/material. In those cases, its stupid because some abuse the power of blocking people. If you feel the need to do so, use hard blocks as a means to an end, soft blocking can cause alot of confusion to people who want to admire your material.

SELECTIVE DOESNT MEAN ONLY RESPOND TO 2 PEOPLE. This bothers the hell out of me. Me personally, if I go through the trouble of making a blog, making this my space, making tidbits and character information, maybe even a few verses if I am feeling spicy, I do it to be able to widen my audience. WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THE BLOG IF YOU ONLY RESPOND TO 2 PEOPLE?! Just roleplay on discord or privately at that point, theres no need to even keep the damn blog active since you dont use it! I dont want to invalidate anyone who does this but we can tell when you only respond to your favorite ship/person. This doesnt apply to blogs who run on a queue system or even those who only have muse for specific threads, I mean those who make the blog and scope out 2 people and no pass go after that. And not to mention your other mutuals can tell you dont give a shit about them due to not responding as quickly to them as you do your fav! And when you call them out on it, 'oH i LoVe OuR iNtErAcTiOnS!' Oh fuck off.

ANDROIDS AND SUPERHEROS NO. My least favorite fandom roleplay wise is both Marvel and Detroit Becoming Human. Those two fandoms in my experience have been allergic to roleplaying outside of their fandom/circle and its exhausting! Like I understand most people are used to their same friend group of roleplay buddies but they are the same ones that complain about lack of interactions! You can only do so many scenarios with the same few characters and after that it becomes monotonous! Venture out! Explore! Dont even get me started on the DBH fandom because they were full of literal assholes when I got into the fandom. Between them ignoring anyone who didnt play an android or being involved with drama or not being understanding of people JUST getting into the fandom, they can kick ROCKS. For the record, I met some pleasant people from both fandoms but I ran into more assholes than ever.

OCS CANNOT BE MARY SUES. Okay as a person who always roleplayed as an oc, theres plenty of takes I can have. I hate OC's that are played as mysterious but they are that way because of their creator refuses to write down their information. I hate OC's with a backstory that copies a canon characters to a T. Taking elements from them is different, for me, I take Rocky's origin story from superman, mannerisms taken from Rarity and early feminine culture, etc etc. Most OC creators dont know the difference between inspired and copied. I hate OC's that are perfect. Oh combat roleplays end quickly because they kill your muse in one shot. You hit them and it doesnt work. They attract everyone because they are perfect and beautiful and have no flaws! I hate OC's that use the same 5 faces as if their arent billions upon billions of faces in the world to use. Im one to talk since I use Instagram models but I am so SICK of people just using actors from a popular show because they know it would get clicks, its lazy and we can see through your laziness. I hate OC's that are children of a canon but dont respect the canon at all. "oh Dean Winchesters my dad but he hunts with me all of the time and takes me gun shopping and lets me drive baby and lets me-" THATS NOT DEAN AS A CHARACTER AT ALL! You can argue 'wElL hE mIgHt HaVe ChAnGeD sInCe ThE bAbY!' BULLSHIT. Dean wouldnt let Sam drive or take care of Baby at first, what in the hell makes you think his KID is exempt from that rule?! AND FARTHER MORE, THAT MAN HAS BEEN THROUGH HELL AND BACK AT THE EXPENSE OF BEING A KID WHOSE DAD HUNTED. WHY WOULD HE PUT HIS KIDS IN THE SAME SITUATION?!

Bonus tidbit. My hatred of DBH muses came from this one RK800 muse. Their blog was beautiful and I was new to Tumblr. I didnt know anything about the mutual system or how they would have their rules shown. They were the first blog that caught my eye so I began to interact with them. On one of the asks, they sent me a screenshot of their rules and called me an asshole for interacting with them since they were mutuals only. Wattpad didnt have a system like that so needless to say, that single interaction has haunted me. I dont like interacting with new blogs first most of the time due to that one sour experience. This screenshot is about 4 years old now and this one interaction STILL haunts me.

supernatural-based warlock verse, following canon-ish

fergus roderick macleod was born in scotland in 1661, a clumsy child with a pure heart nonetheless. always striving to earn his mother’s love & respect, he watched her day by day & not only because the other children in town mocked him for being the witch’s son... no. he adored his mother, he wanted to learn magic. inexperienced & nervous, he failed at early experiments & his mother doomed him useless, convinced the gift had skipped him as it sometimes did. 

when fergus turned eight years old she left him with no warning, she promised to be back, but she wasn’t. aging boys needed strength, they are much more than babe’s, so fergus was pushed around between local families until exiled into the world of adults. he picked up a lot of survival skills on the streets, he learnt hunger & the satisfaction to find enough food to last for a day or two. 

he was taken in by an old tailor years after, a man with not wife or heir & a serious alcohol problem. fergus was treated harshly, but at the end of the day, living with the old tailor gave him food & a roof over his head for the first time in years. he was taught the way of the tailor, but despite the deep-rooted hatred for his mother, fergus never lost interest in magic. when free or alone in the shop, he would practice spells he remembered from his mother. (he always watched her closely, ever since he was a little boy, remembering the spells to impress one day.) turned out he was capable of magic, he’d seemingly just needed patience. 

he took over the shop one day as planned, which was in his early twenties & around the same time he was discovered by the witched hiding in town. the coven. the hatred for his mother got him in, the witches hesitant to greet a boy into their ranks, but desperate times... desperate measures. they trained him, they taught him control. despite being of half-blood, fergus turned out quite skilled once he knew how to funnel his power properly. together with those witched his mother seemingly betrayed, they searched for her for centuries. crowley aged, but slowly. 

the end of the coven brought him into the world of the supernatural. he’s a warlock for hire, selling potions & spells - mere promises to the foolish while hoping to bring the coven back to what it used to be. a force of nature.

aight so uhh lil spontaneous positive rant about OFF rpg bc it’s 1AM and I’m having feelings

bro OFF has that magic that makes me fall for it all over again even if I have,, rewatched it gazillion of times. I religiously rewatch it every year (hush it’s my comfort game), yet it never fails to amaze me and punch me in the gut. Reading theories and fan interpretations of the story and the characters is always fun to read, they’re all absolutely valid and mind-blowing every time.

And every time I take a lil check back in the fandom, I find there’s ppl who still make animations abt it, who makes song remixes with other vgm (undertale x off ost is such a king-to-king crossover), and I learn new stuff like Papyrus was inspired by Dedan’s design? Batter is apparently a beast in battles when in Auto and the Player is probs just holding him back bc he lets you control him? the Bad Batter was confirmed ace?? Batterie is possible in “an alternate universe” confirmed like BRO??? (so does that mean Batterie in fanfics is canon and is validated by the creator bc fanfics are technically kinda like AUs if we treat the game as the canon verse and fanfics as alternate universe -)

Anyways, one thing that blew my small little child brain when I was younger and I just first discovered OFF was the idea of an “unreliable narrator.” I felt so betrayed then, and tbh rewatching it yearly, it still blows my freaking mind. Bad Batter reveal was PERFECT, and it wasn’t some random twist in the end, it was a long build up and the game was dropping hints - it gives the Player ample time to think for themselves. When you return to the purified zones, that’s when the Batter’s motives become questionable, but you still put faith in him bc while purification of the zones seems like a shady mission, he isn’t wrong about eradicating spectres (who ARE hostile) and the Guardians aren’t good either so whatever the Batter is doing still seems like the right decision. The game makes you think it’s a black-and-white “hero vs. villains” when really, everyone is in the grey area, and it becomes especially clear that it is when we found out about the whole Hugo situation. It’s like, every character, including the Guardians, had good intentions at some points but they’re also flawed, and I think the flawed characterization is so beautiful because it made the characters complex and it makes you understand why they’re acting this way or how did they become this way. Tbh there’s so so much to say about each character and their symbolisms but i dont have the brain capacity for deep thinking and analysis like other OFF fans (bless yall btw)

And bro,, the art? the music? Straight up FIRE. The spectre designs are so cool I based off my whole personality off of it at some point when I was younger. But no joke, I was super influenced by Mortis’ artstyle. My love for sketchy pencil art style and concept art; my preference of colorless drawings; my fascination for surreal/body horror, foreshortening and perspective all started with my little caveman brain discovering OFF. I straight up saw OFF art and said “wow. I wanna do something like that.” And lord, the music - someone hold me back. It just as influential to my music taste as the art did to my art style. I never really stopped listening to the soundtrack throughout the years, even if I never check back in the fandom, I still listen to it. My appreciation for percussion went really high after hearing the OFF ost. My habit of checking out video game ost after seeing a game also started with OFF ost, bc what if I miss out another bomb soundtrack like OFF, right? Pepper Steak was my first exposure to Electro Swing, and man I’m so glad bc now Electro Swing is one of my fav genres. Brain Plague ost is very brain (heh) stimulating, it’s literally addicting to listen to?? And the music also did very well in complementing the areas of the game, it added a whole new atmosphere and god don’t you just love it when music does that little magic. The game’s aesthetic is solid and coherent in both the art and music, like what a teamwork! I defo want to do something like that if I create my own game (possibly, I hope my future allows it)

Tbh there’s so much more I can say about this game, but I’m not very good at constructing a professional and coherent analysis or whatever. And this is all first draft so

TL;DR : OFF is very iconic and definitely one of the best rpg games ever bestowed upon Earth, and I love it forever no joke Im having feelings for it again

1.) finrod dwarf bf

My first silm fic!!! This has been lingering for months at the border of "nearly done" since I wrote most of it in a surge of desperate inspiration. Basically, Finrod romance oneshot-ish with a semi-OC dwarven craftsman who made the Nauglamír. This is actually my saddest finrod fic tbh despite being the one WITHOUT torture and dubcon, because it's canon compliant (imo) and Finrod is hopeful and brilliant and a little vain. :')

Those lit-up eyes softened. "Truly, your craftsmanship impresses me. I have never before been the warden of a thing so fine, nor so beautiful. I will treasure it, wonder-smith, as I have treasured your abode within these walls."

He always found the right words. It was for that open appreciation that the Khazâd so readily labored for him.

dwarf bf really has it bad for this guy

most dubious thing in this fic--i chose a Petty-dwarves narrative before learning about alternate (to me) versions Tolkien had (where Finrod is worse or has direct interaction with Mîm) but this is what I'm probably going to stick to because I like:

It was oddly fitting, Nargothrond, the seat of Felakgundu's power. The caverns' first inhabitants were criminals and outlaws, those Khazâd who had left or been driven forth in the early years. Zirak was a scholar as well as a craftsman, and he knew how those dwarves had met their end—on Elvish arrows in the days before the newcomers had made their way from the Sea. In the months they'd spent in the workshop, the Elf lord had spoken glimmers of the shadow that lay in his own past.

It has a hold on me still, Felakgundu said, after the first and only time Zirak had witnessed a waking dream. If he hadn't known Elves better, he would have thought Felakgundu a little abashed. A moment before, those light eyes had stared at nothing, unseeing and stricken. But I am stronger. And I will build strength in goodness here, no matter how evil the foundation it lies on.

2.) westworld

Well.... having written a fucked up Bohun & Bohun/Helena Westworld AU fic for Ogniem i mieczem... I keep wanting to write a Jan (/OT3) one to keep it company. You know I have plenty of wretched ideas for that boy in this verse. Another villainous Jeremi (I wish I could say I was sorrier). Most of this one is actually in a notebook rn instead of the "westworld"-titled doc:

"What happens with the guests doesn't matter." Jan cocks his head, uncomprehending. The words are blank. Jeremi smiles. "What you do is in my service." Jan glows. "Thank you, my prince." Were there ever sweeter words?

3.) potop ot3 drama

My fav Sienkiewicz WIP at the moment tbh and HOPEFULLY one day I go back to it. This is my attempt at a Kmicic/Wołodyjowski fic because by God, we deserve one. Eventual OT3 with Oleńka I think thus the title. The premise (my beloved silly premise) is this: It's the Kmicic-as-wild-partisan-leader era. Michał is sent a bit earlier to give him his commission. Michał and Kmicic hook up before Michał learns who Kmicic is and that his hot one night stand is the famous, kind of mad partisan leader he's supposed to consider for the officer's commission. Then dramatic shenanigans ensue with Hovansky (the Russian commander who has a price on Kmicic's head) and eventually Oleńka.

“So,” Kmicic echoed, tugging at his collar. Michał had barely met him, and yet the uneasy expression still seemed uncomfortable on that bold, brash face; Kmicic remedied it with a grin that didn’t touch his wild eyes for all its bravery. “The first sabre of the Commonwealth—” “Don’t, God,” Michał mumbled, and Kmicic didn’t. “So you remember. It was a mistake unworthy of either of us. You must know that.”

Kmicic’s eyes flashed and he jumped to his feet, casting the empty glass down so it shattered. “Unworthy—”

Radziwiłł’s commission felt like fire against Michał’s breast, investing him with the strength he needed to respond—to stand in a flash and to grab Kmicic’s forearm over the table as he reached for his sabre, holding hard enough to bruise. He spoke lowly, the words hissed in the sudden closeness. “You must know that.”

Kmicic’s lip curled. His Polish was slightly accented now, as if touched by scorn. Michał could smell the sweet mead on his breath. “Say it again. I’d kill any other man who said that to me. I’d challenge you here and now.” He’d moved to ty.

Well, again.

“You would lose,” Michał said, with as little inflection as a stone. He released him, and Kmicic staggered.

Michał returned to his seat at the bench and picked up a leg of fowl. The tavern girls, flocked to the far corner of the room, visibly exhaled and began to file out towards the kitchen.

Kmicic stood before him, slim chest heaving, eyes the color of steel. He looked as if he were about to strike something.

“Sit down,” Michał said. He’d moved to ty too.

Kmicic sat.

Michał swore softly. “Don’t misunderstand me, sir. But put it out of your mind.”

“You needn’t have any fear on that account!” Kmicic downed another glass and took up the pitcher. Michał looked on with something like concern.

Michał’s mustache twitched. “If there were requisitions, signed orders—”

“May I ask you a question, your grace?” Soroka interrupted, voice low and hard. “What kind of men did your grace expect to find? In Smolensk, there’s none left like you describe. They died, your grace. Thanks be to God, Pan Kmicic hasn’t, and so they flock to him for the blood. For the fires and food, and the hope of jewels off boyars’ caps. Because this ragged part of God’s earth is the only place the courts won’t hound them—for murder and rape and Devil knows what else.”

Michał was silent. Soroka looked away, as if ashamed to speak so freely. Wołodyjowski had never heard the older man say so many words together at once.

“Besides his great boldness, there is no other reason, so if it please your grace, don’t tell my lord how to manage his men until you’ve tried it.”

“I will try it, Soroka,” Michał responded evenly, the leather of his sabre’s hilt warm under his hand. “And I’ll manage your lord too.”

I do plan on continuing "Not the distance that scares me" but to manage expectations, it's likely to be a couple of months before I do, just looking at my schedule between now and the end of January... But if you follow me on Ao3, subscribing to the story will let you know when it's updated.

In general, I have a compulsion to finish fics before I start new ones and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I think I have only one other one that's not updated in a year? And even that one, I haven't abandoned completely.

It's a bit unusual at the moment I have three outstanding published WIPs but two of them will hopefully won't be WIP much longer- and as they're all contained in the same universe, just at different points of time- they're all not far from my mind. So even if I'm concentrating on one, it's easier for me to switch back to writing the next one.
