don't snitch tag or harass anyone on this post or ill kick your ass
hunting down the source of the drama from this post (it's this post btw) in the #emperor john gaius tag and. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY JOHN APOLOGISTS WTF
"Everyone makes a very big deal out of Jod having a crown of baby finger bones, and as an aesthetic choice it certainly says… something. But there’s no reason to assume the bones came from actual babies." and everyone in the tags like "he might intellectually understand that baby bone crown is weird" "yeah he killed a lot of babies but I don't think any of their bones are in his crown"
WHY DO YOU THINK THE AUTHOR MADE THE CHOICE TO HAVE HER NECROMANTIC GOD-EMPEROR WEAR A CROWN OF BABY FINGER BONES. IT'S NOT TO SHOW THAT HE'S A GUY WITH A SPOOKY AESTHETIC.
more commentary from someone actually sensible, plus some good tags under the cut:
#tamsyn really gave us everything didn't she#no yeah i think it is CRUCIAL that there is a world in which you can send your stillborn baby necromancer's skeleton#to be honoured by god#to be cared for by god and to care for god with the lingering flickers of their thanergy#and that god - whose power of resurrection is a kind of reproductive power and whose kids 'on ice' are...uh...#potentially needed to deal with the diminishing gene pool problem that seems to have beset everyone?#THAT god crowns himself with the symbolic reminder that necromancy matters and necromancers matter#primarily as canon fodder in his endless war#that the struggle to produce baby necromancers - the struggle to keep them alive! - is a struggle to produce future soldiers and colonists#god crowns himself with the symbolic reminder that barely viable pregnancies are worth it if they produce kids who live long enough#to use the thanergy and thalergy around them against god's enemies#that crown is not just a symbol of god's power in general. it's a symbol of john's power over his resurrected people#whose very futurity is nothing in comparison to his goals - his ends#i don't want to say that reproductive futurity is my main interpretive lens in this fandom but like. it's not NOT
#tlt discourse#<- is the tag to block to avoid my hater moments lol#john#not to mention it's in completely atrocious taste to talk about your fantasy book characters w/r/t real politics#it's on the level of “dumbledore would have saved america”

CARADOC DEARBORN is TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD an AUROR in THE DEPARTMENT OF MAGICAL LAW ENFORCEMENT at THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC. He looks remarkably like BOOBOO STEWART and considers himself aligned with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. He is currently OPEN.
→ OVERVIEW:
Brave and courageous with a lion heart, Caradoc Dearborn is every inch a true Gryffindor and a beloved friend by all due to his honesty and integrity. Born in Scotland, Caradoc was raised in the wizarding village of Portee on the picturesque Isle of Skye where his parents chose to settle into a quieter life after a lifetime of dangerous quests which took them across the globe. Bravery runs in the blood of both the Dearborn and Li families of which Caradoc is proudly related to, each with their own intense and brilliant family histories which are rooted deep within the wizarding world. SARA LI, his mother was a brilliant witch who had worked for the Japanese Ministry of Magic for a great many years before moving to London to aid in the protection of Japanese Magical Creatures. Travelling to Rome, Paris and onto London, Sara attempted to share her studies on the Oni, a deeply misunderstood creature she knew to have been featured in travelling circuses across Europe. An endangered creature due to the price on it’s horns, she ruthlessly pursued circus owners who kept them, joining a travelling circus herself to attempt to uncover the trade of the creature. While posing as an Oni keeper for a travelling circus in Paris she met Caradoc’s father, ADAHY DEARBORN an auror with a mysterious past who posed as a wizard dazzling crowds with windless magic of which he was an expert.
Undercover they began their love affair, travelling around the world attempting to rescue and save magical creatures from extinction. His mother and father’s love story was one that captured Caradoc’s imagination and he grew up with a taste of adventure and a love of magical creatures which his parents kept on their remote property just outside of Portee. It was a solitary upbringing but a beautiful one, surrounded by trees and the roar of the sea, Caradoc’s childhood was spent with his best friends. His parents who dazzled him with their escapades and their creatures who he lied beside dreaming up adventures that would take him across the world. Although his mother was very vocal about her family and her life in Japan before she came to London, his father spoke little of his life in Massachusetts. It hadn’t really occurred to Caradoc to inquire very much into it until it became apparent he shared the same magical abilities of his parents. Although Caradoc had always seen his mother use a wand, his father had never needed one. Adahy was extremely capable of very difficult magic with a simple spell or a wave of his hand and or a spell that his mother required a wand for. As most children in Britain obtain wands when they are eleven and are thus capable of wandless magic, Caradoc was unbothered by his magic rearing its head when he was angry or sad as it had with his mother and father.
But Caradoc wasn’t like most young wizards, the magic which occurred in strange spurts for most children he was able to control because of his father. Adahy began teaching him to control his magic while he was young. Chores became easy as a twirl of his hand engineered a sponge scrubbing a plate or bags of food flew outside to the garden to feed their firebirds. His ability was astounding and unlike anything many of the children in Portee were able to manage as they awaited their wands and their letters to Hogwarts. Caradoc too awaited his letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and when he was eleven years old it arrived. Hogwarts was everything Caradoc had imagined it would be, a beautiful castle with spralling green hills and a mysterious dark lake and forest which they were forbidden from venturing into. Someone who wasn’t very good at following the rules and had an immense appetite for danger, Caradoc rarely followed the rules and quickly befriended fellow trouble makers POPPY HOOKUM, DEMETRIUS MCLAGGEN and GWENOG JONES. Other people often found the pair high energy quite off putting, but Caradoc found them interesting and gleefully enjoyed exploring the outer edges of the school together and preaching the rights of all magical beings when they weren’t serving detention. Caradoc experienced his fair share of detentions whilst at Hogwarts and was a regular thorn in the side of PROFESSOR MCGONAGALL. But whilst like Poppy and Demetrius he got in trouble for taking down purists, he also had a habit for walking around after hours.
Exploring Hogwarts was simply due to Caradoc’s love of adventure, but his regular trips to the library and the restricted section were to do with another form of curiosity. Caradoc loved his life at Hogwarts but he longed to know more about his abilities. Wandless magic was not taught at Hogwarts and whilst Caradoc was comfortable with a wand he wondered why his classmates, like his mother, had needed the wands to control their magic. It was many nights getting caught wandering the halls and serving detentions for carrying books he shouldn’t be in the possession of that finally led I’m into the office of PROFESSOR DUMBLEDORE who finally gave him a book which provided him some answers. Wandless magic was not taught at Hogwarts but it was taught in a few magical schools, Uagadou School of Magic and The Greylock School of Magic. Both schools had amazing history, but it was Greylock that peaked his interest. Founded by the Dearborn family, QALETAQA and his wife TALA DEARBORN built the school to teach their children and the children of their village who lived at the foot of Mount Greylock to control their magic. It was a small school at first, though over the years it grew to take on more teachers and greater numbers of students before becoming the most sought after school in The United States and the leading school to teach only wandless magic. The Dearborn family were firmly at the helm with the current headmaster TAIMA DEARBORN, a direct descendant of Qaletaqa and Talana of a similar age to Caradoc’s aging father Adahy.
Armed with his research he put it to his father the summer after he finished Hogwarts. Caradoc knew they were connected to Greylock in some way, but he wasn’t quite sure how. From a draw in his story his study Adahy produced a letter from Tala to Caradoc detailing his acceptance to Greylock when he was seven years old, based on his legacy status. Tala was his uncle and had been estranged from him after his father had abandoned his headmaster position at the school to chase a dream of becoming an auror. Caradoc was shocked and deeply hurt that his father would keep such an important part of his history from him. They had family in America, Caradoc had never met and a whole school had been open to him; he'd never gotten the chance to explore. Livid, Caradoc packed his belongings and moved out, renting a room in London with his best friend Poppy who was equally as irritated by their family as Caradoc was with his own. The pair had big dreams and only needed one another to make them a reality. Although Caradoc was curious about his legacy in America, a wider problem had captured his attention in Britain that was becoming worse as the years went by. Purist ideology was on the uptake and although the problem had been bad at Hogwarts it was becoming worse as they entered the wider world. Caradoc and Poppy had been firm members of CHARITY BURBAGE and BENJY FENWICK’s Sorcerers for Equality movement since Hogwarts, but knew they could be doing more.
Enrolling in the Auror programme, Caradoc studied hard to achieve his dream and quickly became a valued member of the department catching the eye of senior Auror KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT. Kingsley offered to mentor Caradoc after a few incidents at work had him flagged up on ALASTOR MOODY’s radar. Despite his talent, Caradoc had a bit of a tendency to put himself in dangerous positions in order to help or protect others, taking the law into his own hands and investigating cases without any help. It was his passion for justice, magical ability and desire to keep a close eye on him that prompted Kingsley to introduce Caradoc into The Order of The Phoenix, a secret group formed by Professor Dumbledore to keep Wizarding London safe from potential threat. Caradoc takes his role within the team very seriously, constantly working around the clock to look at cases from an angle which might be beneficial to the Order and berating Kingsley with his findings. Oftentimes, his accusations appear somewhat wild and under researched as Caradoc tries desperately to root out the death eaters amongst them. Presently, Caradoc has his eyes on KEIRA GREY, a Muggle-Born working at the coroner’s office whom the department frequently have worked with. Although Kingsley isn’t ready to hear it, Caradoc had no reason to suspect Keira until the passing of BOOKER BAGNOLD, but with fresh doubts now cast on the nature of his death Caradoc is admen Keira might have had a hand in covering it up and is determined to prove it.

⧼ stana katic, cis female, she/her / this is me trying by taylor swift + dried flower petals littered everywhere, stacks of books beside a too neat bed and the wind blowing her hair, pulling it from the crasp of a broken clip. ⧽ ━━ hey, isn’t that ROLANDA HOOCH? i read a daily prophet article on them, once ; the FORTY FIVE year old [ half blood ] WITCH is a [ RAVENCLAW alumnus who has gone on to be a HOGWARTS QUIDDITCH COACH AND PROFESSIONAL QUIDDITCH COMMENTATOR]. i’ve heard they can be quite COMPASSIONATE & INTUITIVE , but i don’t know… they came off very EVASIVE & ARGUMENTATIVE in that interview. it really is hard to know what to believe these days though, isn’t it?
tw: death, murder, war
Imagine a little cottage by the sea. The sound of the waves there to ease one to sleep and to gently rouse them to wakefulness. The best that England had to offer. That’s what Rolanda Hooch’s parents used to tell her as they would sit out on the deck eating their dinner, little Ro’s legs crossed underneath as she nestled happily in between her mums. Mama was her biological mother and a powerful witch at that with Mum being a woman that Mama had met surely after Rolanda’s birth and the subsequent leaving of her father. Mum was a muggle who got broiled up into the world of magic and children and took it like a camp. That’s how Mama used to talk about it.
Ro’s childhood was as idyllic as one could be. Surrounded by blue skies and plenty of books with parents that loved her. It seemed like nothing could go wrong. Even once she hit Hogwarts and had to figure out what homesickness was and how to deal with it or through all the trials and tribulations that all teenagers go through, she was good. Ravenclaw had become another home and she became the seeker for Ravenclaw at just thirteen. To this day, Ro says that was one of her best achievements. It wasn’t until the later years of Hogwarts where the world that was so bright and colourful slowly started to turn grey and dark and the places that once held wonder now held fear.
Upon graduation, Rolanda was offered a spot with the Holyhead Harpies. Their seeker was about to retire and little Ro (not that she was little anymore) had a reputation. With rumours of Voldemort and his army becoming more than just whispers, she was determined to enjoy something and so she grasped that chance with two hands. It was also upon graduation that like many others in her year, she joined the Order. This was done without the knowledge of either one of her mothers. She knew how they would react and everyone was so certain that those who didn’t know anything would be space. Sometimes, she wished she also knew nothing but she did and her position on the team gave her a unique chance to travel and scout that most did not have. She never did much actual fighting.
She wishes she had. After all, her lack of fighting or time at home didn’t save Mama and Mum. She was twenty years old and was so excited to be home after a long season. It was supposed to be a surprise. Turns out, she was the one in for a surprise. The dark mark was visible before she had even walked down the lane.
Her memories of that night are spotty. Even now. She knew that there was someone holding her. Someone from The Order, many someone’s maybe. She knew that there was crying and that there was ash, because it had stuck to her tears and gotten in her eyes. Her home was gone and for no reason at all then her Mama was with a muggle. Senseless. That’s what it was.
Time became a blur after that. The next year was different homes and another season that pretended that the world wasn’t about to fall apart. Perhaps that was the right thing to do because before it could, Lily and James Potter died and little Harry Potter killed Lord Voldemort. She was twenty-one, yet like everyone else her age, she felt twice that.
As the world recovered, she endeavored to do the same and gave everything to Quidditch, grasping for the joy that the First had just about taken from her. She was Seeker for the Holyhead Harpies for another nine years. In that time, she found love, a wonderful man by the name of William Picard. He was a wizard from America. He was so kind and so good and at twenty-nine when she gave birth to his child, a beautiful boy by the time of Adam, it finally felt like she had grasped onto life again.
Only a few months after he was born, at her first game back after maternity leave, a particularly nasty bludger knocked her off her broom. It should have been an easy fix but even magic couldn’t fix the damage it had done to her hip. It wasn’t that she’d never fly again, it was that playing at a professional level had fallen from her grasp. She was newly thirty years old and sometimes still that hip causes her pain. It was okay though, because she had William and Adam and she would find something else. Right?
And find something she did. Six months after the injury, Albus Dumbledore contacted her. Hogwarts was in need of a Quidditch Coach and he thought she would be perfect for the job. Turns out he was right. Her days were spent at Hogwarts before she would head to Hogsmeade and apparate home.. Somedays Adam would come in with her and others William would have him. It wasn’t necessarily easy to figure out, but they made it work. Somewhere amongst all of that Ro also began to commentate for the British and Irish Quidditch league. Things were good.
And then in 2012, Voldemort came back. There isn’t much to say about the three years following, other than that Ro felt like she was twenty years old again, scared for her family and trying to pretend at work that things were okay. In January of 2014 however, doing so became much harder. She had eagerly left Hogwarts that day, desperate to be out of the dark and fearful place it had become. That day however, she apparated to a painfully familiar sight. The dark hovering over her home. William and Adam, only ten years old, were inside. It happened again. She had wanted nothing more then to run then, but instead she had simply gone back to Hogwarts and sent a Patronus to a member of The Order. Students needed her.
Then May Fourteenth happened and once again the world had to rebuild. She threw herself into it, desperate to continue to ignore what had happened, what she had lost. Stopping was out of the question because if she did so, she was certain she would unravel. And unravel she did when it all finally caught up to her. After all, she was now a widow (even if they had never officially gotten married) and a mother without a child. Who came back from such a thing?
It’s been six years now and sometimes she almost feels like the woman before the Second War. After all, she works at Hogwarts again (but now she lives there) and still travels occasionally to commentate (but now there is no one to send letters too). Even so, she knows that to be false. Especially now as history seems to be on the brink of repeating itself. Well, at least she has no family to get killed this time.
---
if you read all of that i’m very proud! i certainly did get a little carried away there. either way, i would love to plot and am open to most things! i hope you like her, she’s a new character for me so i’m very much still figuring her out!

AFTER THE OVERNIGHT SUCCESS of rita skeeters second biographical novel, the boy who lived & other tragic tales, the audacious blonde tells us here at the prophet that she very briefly considered fading into anonymity. ”it was the perfect time,” she admits, that charming smile never fading, “and my publisher certainly would have had me do it. get out at the height of it, rita, and leave them ALWAYS wanting more. that’s what he told me, and that was the plan. put down the quill. move to france. write... travel blogs, maybe, for the rest of my days.” she LAUGHS, and it’s difficult not to laugh with her. the image of this woman ever leaving down that iconic peacock quill is laughable. “but you know better than anyone : once i get a hint of a story that needs to be told, there is nothing, not even that desire for sandy beaches and endless sunshine alongside a strong cocktail, that can pull me away from it. and that is what this is. ‘SEVERUS SNAPE: SWAN SONG’ might be, perhaps, my own... i won’t say. but it is also a story that deserved to be told.”
WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :
rita skeeter’s book launch, being held on june 10th, 2020, includes a questions and answers panel at flourish and botts ( please clear your questions with miss skeeters publicity team in advance ), after party in the leaky cauldron ( booked out entirely for the event ) & discounts and special treats in shops all along diagon alley itself ( madam malkin’s is giving out imitations of miss skeeters iconic spectacles, amanuensis quills is providing quality peacock quills at a 20% discount and fortescue’s ice cream parlour promises your ice cream, free, if you promise you didn’t purchase and don’t plan on purchasing a copy - unrelated to the event, but they’ll never know if you lie ! ).
to date, she has now written three books :
the life & lies of albus dumbledore : a tell all exposé on albus dumbledore and his young life, that ‘stripped away the popular image of serene, silver bearded wisdom, revealing a disturbed childhood, lawless youth, lifelong feuds and guilty secrets carried to his grave’.
the boy who lived & other tragic tales : a biographical book claimed to be the true life stories of a number of the victims of the battle of hogwarts ( among them fred weasley, padma patil, colin creevey, remus lupin, vincent crabbe and, for some reason, cedric diggory ) but focusing a frankly INNAPROPRIATE amount upon harry potter himself. rita had initially been intending on writing a biography for him along until her publisher convinced her otherwise, but some of her ‘hot takes’ could be pried from her cold dead hands. it sit on the bestseller list in england and america for several weeks.
severus snape, swan song : another biographical book, the blurb of which reads ‘severus snape was known by many as the ill temptered and largely unliked potions master at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. his highly publicized role in the death of albus dumbledore and his brief period as headmaster at the aforementioned school during the time it was run largely by the dark lords most loyal followers painted a narrative of a man dedicated to the wrong sides cause : but what if i were to tell you that despite the story spun all these years... we were wrong? through the lens of severus snape’s own ( verified ) memories, i, rita skeeter, bring you a new narrative. one of a boy raised in a volatile home in spinners end, a teen who made a mistake, a young man who lost the love of his life... and a war wearied individual who tried his whole life to save her son, and played the role of villain so that no one else had to.’
OUT OF CHARACTER:
she’s sure gone and done it now ! rita skeeter has proven to be quite the master of dropping bombshell level books when the wizarding community least expects them, and let me confirm what i’m sure you’re all wondering, right off the bat : she really HAS revealed severus snapes life story to the wizarding world, with this new book of hers. rita’s unregistered animagus form came in CLUTCH, for her, as she fell into possession of memories that were lost in the cleanup of the war ( and subsequently verified by the ministry of magic themselves, papers confirming which will be released through the prophet on the morning of her surprise book release ). memories that harry potter watched before heading off to the forbidden forest. memories that changed everything : told him the real role he was to play, exposed the truth about severus snapes role in everything, and revealed just how far albus dumbledore went in his striving to defeat the dark lord. i know. it’s a doozy !
rita skeeter now possesses the most valuable information of all, and unfortunately for everyone, she hasn’t kept her big mouth shut : though colored by the vapid voice she employs to write her greatest hits, the information is now out in the world. public opinion is naturally going to shift on severus snape as more and more people read / hear about her work, but since the book is heavily biased against dumbledore, opinions are going to change there, too - and many might begin assigning to the idea of one man being an unsung hero, while the other was an over glorified VILLAIN. the only person getting off easy is harry potter, who of course, is just yet another tragic sidenote.
the event is beginning NOW ( june 15th ) and will end in a week, or there abouts - the end date might change based on wider involvement, but you’ll be informed in advance if it does !
for the purpose of the event, i’ve set up a sideblog @skeetertms - you read it right ! rita skeeter herself is making an appearance, and her open starter is right here for you to reply to if you so choose ! depending on how fun it is, and whether i can come up with a good reason to justify it, she might be sticking around a while past the event - we’ll see !
the book release ( including the early morning q & a session, the late night party at the leaky cauldron where there will be live music, an open bar and free food & of course, the wider event upon diagon alley ) is an open event, meaning that while press was invited, everyone else is just sort of.. turning up. your character might just stumble upon it, while on diagon alley. they might genuinely want to be there, as a fan of rita skeeters work. really, it’s up to you - but given the fact this is not an intensive event, you are more than welcome to continue your older threads in addition to starting new ones !
speaking of event starters : they should be tagged as nox.event003 ! the location is diagon alley, but feel free to specify where !
if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to message the main ! please reply to this post with ‘beetle’ once you’ve read it !

There was no one
(Spiderman homecoming, Irondad)
Waring: Suicide attempt, happy ending.
Summary:
My take on what was going in Peter's head when the warehouse collapsed on him, how he coped with it and what Tony Stark did about it.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7ebe855d1199f657ed931c3c94ad0ba0/tumblr_inline_pa1kzqcUgw1vmfmsb_540.jpg)
"I just wanted to be like you,"
"and I wanted you to be better."
...
Well then. If Tony Stark could come out of a terrorist cave with shrapnel at his heart, wear a suit and save the world then the universe could damn well expect Peter Parker to get a measly building of his back.
But it hurt. The last bits of his courage collapsed with the warehouse. When he realized that his attempts at dodging the vulture were nothing. Then came the orchestra of broken bones, followed by gushing blood.
If only he had the suit. If he just had Karen for a few seconds. Anybody or AI that would listen.
"Help! H-help! please!" His voice broke. "Anybody! please...I'm down here, I'm stuck-I'm stuck I can't move I can't-I can't..."
And yet, there was no one.
He wondered if Mr. Stark would be more disappointed or embarrassed if he saw him right now. He wasn't doing this for Mr. Stark though, or Liz, or to get his suit back.
He was going to survive this and stop the vulture. So that innocent people don’t get hurt when Avenger level weaponry goes into the hands of people who would do anything for money.
Was he going to cry under a heap of concrete or get back on his feet and stop an aircraft hijacking, Spiderman-style?
“come on Spiderman, come on Spiderman, come” he groaned when something pointy grazed the slash on his leg. “come…on Spiderman”
Where lifting the rubble took every drop of physical strength he had, it taught him something priceless in return:
He didn’t need a suit to be Spiderman.
...
Did Mr. stark get nightmares too? every time Peter closed his eyes, the concrete came back, laughing at him, mocking him. was he trying to be a superhero? he was an insect who survived being squashed. Nothing more.
He'd wake up crying, and his tears were nothing like the blood that kept gushing that night. tears were transparent, blood was red. Just like his Spiderman suit. just like Mr. Stark's armor.
Did Mr. Stark cry himself to sleep too?
...
The suit had grown on him, swinging out the window, he sat on the highest roof in eyesight, the moon was silver, not red like Ironman, or Spiderman, or his blood. it wasn't transparent like the tears of a teenage crybaby. It was a beautiful shade of silver.
If Mr. Stark found out he was crying on a random roof because of something that happened years ago, he'd definitely take his suit away. Peter immediately ripped the suit off, it had started to sting.
Thank god he was wearing something underneath.
He cocked his head and looked, down. Cars buzzing away and litten apartments and busy hotels. So many people were under him.
There was no one at the warehouse. One tear. he screamed, another tear, no one listened, he tried not to whimper.
No one would listen. No one ever listens. If he jumped, would people listen? they do say actions speak louder than words.
Would they care if their friendly neighborhood Spiderman suddenly disappeared?
Of course not. People remember the suave guy who saved all known and unknown worlds. not the kid who helped some old lady cross the fucking road. Do even you remember the name of the last guy who opened the door for you?
With that in mind he stood on the edge, how metaphorical, he had been on the edge for the past three years, this was just in a more literal sense.
He leaned forward, he was falling, no web following him, no safety buffer, just as he closed his eyes, May came to mind. Oh god, what was he doing, she'll be destroyed after this, first his parents then Ben, oh god please he'd do anything for May not to care about him. Ned, MJ, the Churro lady was going to hate him for this! Then Came Mr. Stark.
"And if you died, I feel like that's on me, I don't want that on my conscience" he didn't have his web shooters he was gonna die, why did he leave them up there-wait he should've hit the ground by now.
Then he realized the pair of red metal arms holding him up. But Ironman wasn't moving, just floating, shaking.
Peter definitely fucked up.
"M-Mr. Stark-"
"One word, kid, one. Why?"
Peter couldn't see his expression with the Ironman mask on. It was so much more terrifying.
They were back on the roof, now.
Peter quickly dismissed another roof from his mind, another day, another disappointment.
"Why?!" Tony screamed. Mr. Stark hardly raised his voice.
"The warehouse" Peter was uncharacteristically quiet. Tony’d do anything to exchange this for a never-ending Star Wars marathon with his kid.
Honestly, he expected him to experience all the trauma Avengers went through, no matter how hard he tried to throw that fact to the back of his brain.
Because he caused this. Tony Stark practically kidnapped a minor, lied to his aunt, threw him into a multi-million dollar suit and made him fight captain god damn America. then came saving ferries and fighting vultures.
But what warehouse?
the very fact that he didn't know something that caused his kid (*this kid) to attempt suicide made his insides turn to stone.
"What warehouse?"
Peter looked up at him, his brown eyes swirling with panic.
Tony glared at him. "What made the friendly pg thirteen Spiderman jump off a building?"
The kid visibly curled into himself, instinctive. defensive. Damn, Tony couldn't do anything right.
"When, when you took the suit away, I went to thi-this this" the tears were flooding, messing with the kid's audio quality. "warehouse, and the vulture was there and did you know his wings are very strong? and they can cut through walls and that's what they did and and I was-"
Tony wished he was an idiot. he wished he was oblivious. Ironman wished he wasn't so painfully overconfident. he wished he didn't finish Peter's words.
"You were in there. and the building collapsed" Peter nodded, staring at the ground.
Tony felt sick.
What had he done?
-the end-
(lol nah, i’m not that evil XD, continue reading, love)
Peter had given up not crying a long time ago, but the boy still had the audacity to look away and hide his tears behind his hand. As if that could stop those moonlit streaks and drops to haunt Tony forever.
Without thinking, he hugged the weeping kid in front of him. Said kid chuckled. “That’s not a hug”
“I’m just opening the door for you” Tony finished with a melancholic smile.
Peter sat down, legs hanging above Queens. For some reason, Stark knew he wouldn’t try jumping again.
Peter sighed and looked up at him. “First, I’m so sorry, second, this isn’t your fault, third: I’m not suicidal”
Tony pulled off his helmet. “That’s a little hard to believe taking into account that you just jumped off a building without your web shooters.” Ironman sat beside him.
There it was again, the panic in Peter’s eyes. “No, please no, what I did, I wasn’t thinking and now that I am, I know that I don’t want to go I won't leave you or May or Ned or Mj or the churro lady, nightmares aren’t supposed to-”
“Nightmares?” Tony narrowed his eyes, everything slowly falling into place. This kid was battling demons the size of his own.
Peter nodded, and He sighed. “Know how you like a song? and you listen to it over and over again?”
The teenager frowned, confused, but nodded again.
“And then you start hating it, it doesn't even sound like music anymore? Try that with your nightmare”
“Sorry, Mr. Stark, but what?”
Tony reigned in the urge to sass the kid in front of him. “Play the nightmare in your head, over and over again. Painful, scary, a bit crazy but trust me, kid. I get nightmares too.” He slowed down a bit. “Play it until you get tired of watching yourself getting crushed and getting back up again. Get tired of hearing the voices repeat the same things over and over again. And you’ll see it for what it is.”
Peter cocked his head at him and grinned. How the kid still maintained that attitude was beyond him. ‘Mr. Stark, this is all sweet and Dumbledore-y of you but what exactly am I supposed to see it as?’
The billionaire rolled his eyes. “Don’t make me say it, kid,”
Chuckling Peter looked below, so many people were living their lives under him, yet the one who came to rescue him flew here from god knows where. “How did you know I was going to jump”
Tony looked straight into his eyes, no helmet. “You get a little suspicious when your kid takes his suit and swings to a roof, in the middle of the night, every night And this time decides to take it off”
Peter held his head in his hands, sighing dramatically. “Oh god, Mr. Stark. This is a whole other level of helicopter parenting” Tony glared at him and they waited in the midst of the tense silence before bursting into fits of laughter.
A/N:
YOU! YES YOU! are reading my first fanfic on tumblr, and it would make this girl Hela happy if you press the heart thingy and reblog because I SPENT 2 WEEKS ON THIS GODDAMNIT. I need a beta reader, so if you want to help me out then message me.
Just some clarifications:
1) i am not promoting suicide, at all. This oneshot came to be when i realized having a building drop on a 15 year old and have no one offer him a hand would mess with their brain, and have consequences, something marvel ignored in homecoming.
2) Just because we end the oneshot with both of them laughing, that in no meaning of the word means they’re “ok” But they will, eventually. (want me to write some fluff? ;) )
3) THIS WHOLE THING IS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF PETER AND TONY. I IN NO WAY AM SAYING THAT PETER IS A WORTHLESS INSECT OR THAT TONY SHOULD BE BLAMED FOR EVERYTHING. I tried my best to think up how their perspective, and this is it.
4) This ain’t Starker, period.

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄’𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐂 𝐈𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐕𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐒 / wizarding world au.
This is an open concept AU; no set timeline or location to make it flexible for the different canons and timelines within this universe. The default is American, born in 1976 - but can be plotted otherwise. This is also an open AU, which means any mutual can approach me about it and there is no connected canon to other muns unless a mini private offshoot is agreed upon.
Born to muggles, Eugene and Beverly Strange, Stephen struggled accepting his identity as a wizard at first. It certainly went against his father’s plans and sensibilities to allow his son to learn ‘unholy skills’; it took a combination of his mother and school officials to settle the matter once and for all. It took a permanent toll on the relationship between his father and himself; trying to make him proud while also being something that went against everything he was taught and raised to be.
It was easier for Donna two years later. For a moment, Eugene thought they were safe in regards to her, only to find out she had been delayed entry due to when her birthday fell in regards to the school year. By then, Eugene gave up in a sense. Becoming distant and detached from the kids lives, pinning all his hopes on Victor to be ‘normal’. His wish was granted, as Victor grew to be wary of his siblings and distant from them.
Upon graduating, Stephen began practicing at one of the finest hospitals in the wizarding world. Eventually working on very important studies and experiments to further the boundaries of magical medicine. Yet, as his professional life flourished, his personal life suffered. Eventually culminating in an accident that left his hands permanently damaged from a curse and unable to practice both medicine and most witchcraft.
Desperate for answers, Stephen traveled the globe. Not willing to resign himself to the muggle life his father was too quick to try to indoctrinate him into upon finding out ( a bit of arrogant pride on his part ); eventually discovering more of the wizarding world on a global scale. Finding cultures that preformed magic wand-lessly, and beginning to study their techniques until he mastered them himself.
As he studied his new skills, Stephen also learned more about himself. Confronting demons both literal and internal. Becoming stronger than he had been before; eventually returning to his native wizarding culture a very different man with a new purpose. There was an array of strange and unknown, people needed defending and knowledge and limited understanding of parts of the picture had led to the downfall of more than just himself. Branding himself as a Professional Freelance Specialist in the Strange and Bizzare; and working sometimes along official organizations as a consultant; Stephen Strange began protecting the world from the untapped and unexplored parts of the magical and non-magical universe.

HOGWARTS: participated in the resistance after the death of Albus Dumbledore; participated in the battle of Hogwarts without attacking a single person outside of stunning - mostly in hospital wing and helping to bring the injured to get treatment.
* — Stephen is set to Ilvermorny by default, as he is a North American based character, however he has adaptability to fit into Hogwarts as plotted. Based off of his canonical birthdate on this blog, he would have been three years older than Hermione Granger (the eldest of the trio). Yet, I am always okay plotting him for different generations. Details that change is the hospital and ministry he worked and dealt with the most prior to his accident, as well as how much the events of the war would have affected him directly.
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐍’𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐂 𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓:
Stephen spent his school years studying to become a Healer / Mediwizard; he received O levels in Herbology, Charms, DADA, Potions, and Transfiguration ( as per the requirement ). He worked routinely at the hospital becoming specialised in rare and dangerous ailments; this specialisation and natural affinity led to him doing side work for the ministry, specifically in the Department of Mysteries. It was this that led to over inflated ego and hubris; and eventually the night he was trying to develop a new treatment for curse related ailments. Trying to control really dangerous and powerful magic, but overestimated his limits. Prompting in Stephen to lose control of the spell, his wand reacting violently ( caused by his own panic and anger as Hazel wood is known to expel powerful discharge based on it’s user’s emotional state ). The wand shattered under the strain, rebounding itself and it’s spell onto his hands first and foremost. Damaging them irreversibly.
Stephen eventually studied wandless magic while travelling in search of some cure to his cursed hands; learning that wands were not a required tool for magic ( in fact, they were european in origin ). After a long amount of dedication and practice, Stephen mastered the skill and uses it predominantly. Eventually, Stephen did acquire another wand, finding it a useful tool for exact and delicate projects. However, it’s not his primary tool for magic.
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐍’𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄𝐒:
WAND ONE: HAZEL, DRAGON HEARTSTRING CORE. 9 INCHES.
HAZEL WOOD often reflects the owners emotional state. It’s been known to expel powerful discharge when it’s owner has lost their temper or experiences any form of strong negative emotion while in use. It requires emotional control on behalf of the owner to use properly The positive aspect of a hazel wand more than makes up for such minor discomforts, however, for it is capable of outstanding magic in the hands of the skilful. It’s extremely loyal, to the point where wands of hazel are known to ‘wilt’ or fully cease functionality upon death. Hazel wands also have the unique ability to detect water underground, and will emit silvery, tear-shaped puffs of smoke if passing over concealed springs and wells.
DRAGON HEARTSTRING produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.
SHORTER LENGTH wands tends to attract people who are lacking something in character
NOT FLEXIBLE
Stephen in his earlier years was all about closing off his emotional self, wanting control over his surroundings to obsessive means. However, he often came across temperamental and difficult to work with. Pushing himself to learn faster and be better; seeking control through every means possible. The conflict between letting people in to be close to him and keeping the world at arms length is shown even in the wand he attracts; hazel wood being loyal to the point of death, and dragon heartstring being able to change allegiance if deemed deserved. Yet, both agree on the point of once it’s given, it’s strong. Yet, his emotional state, despite his best efforts, was the catalyst for this wand’s demise, mixed with hubris pushing him further than he was able to handle. This emotional and unskillful handle of a wand known to be temperamental led to it’s destruction. However, there is something to be said for it’s loyalty… as the wand broke as it did, limiting the damage to Stephen on his hands and taking the brunt of the damage itself. The wand’s loyalty to it’s foolish master, saved it’s master’s life in the end but at a cost.
WAND TWO: YEW, PHOENIX FEATHER CORE. 14 INCHES
YEW WOOD wands are among the rarer kinds, and their ideal matches are likewise unusual, and occasionally notorious. The wand of yew is reputed to endow its possessor with the power of life and death, which might, of course, be said of all wands; and yet yew retains a particularly dark and fearsome reputation in the spheres of duelling and all curses. However, it is untrue to say (as those unlearned in wandlore often do) that those who use yew wands are more likely to be attracted to the Dark Arts than another. The witch or wizard best suited to a yew wand might equally prove a fierce protector of others. Wands hewn from these most long-lived trees have been found in the possession of heroes quite as often as of villains. Where wizards have been buried with wands of yew, the wand generally sprouts into a tree guarding the dead owner’s grave. What is certain, in my experience, is that the yew wand never chooses either a mediocre or a timid owner.
PHOENIX FEATHERS are one of the rarest core types. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn hair or dragon heartstring cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.
LONGER LENGTH tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, and those of a more spacious and dramatic style of magic.
FLEXIBLE.
By the time Stephen is ready to acquire himself a new wand, he isn’t the same boy from the wand shop when he was eleven. While he still is not the most approachable man, he is better and, more importantly, more healthy control of his emotional state. No longer hiding from it. That being said, he isn’t easy to get close too - he just won’t be in denial and let people who deserve it win him over. His pacifist nature is shone as Yew has been in the hand of great defenders; yet his strange and unusual life ( present and prior ) and self imposed duties align him ( even if not always deservedly ) with the balance of life and death. His willingness to push himself and try new things and persevere until mastery is what makes him able to unlock the full potentials of his wand core. And of course, with many of his hang ups aside and no longer needed to compensate; Stephen is allowed more room to be his full strange self… allowing him a longer wand to fit… and his more at peace nature with life, death and time allows his wand to be more flexible.
𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐔𝐒 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄: 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐃
The Blackbird Patronus appears to those who try to help themselves. Blackbirds are mysterious and intuitive, appearing when needed most. Blackbirds keep their secrets and will protect yours fiercely. While they may not be the most ferocious protectors, they are one of the most mysterious and magical. Keep well your own counsel, and you may have a blackbird to help protect you in the darkest of times.
Stephen was unable to perform a corporeal patronus until long after his accident and second wand, as it requires a certain temperament and mindset to be able to perform this very rare type of patronus.

A link to my currently three part piece of Harry Potter fiction. It follows an original character through the Harry Potter universe starting from her first day at Hogwarts, going through the triwizard tournament, graduating Hogwarts, finding a job, falling in love and coming close to death on several occasions. Please check it out and let me know what you think!
Here's the first chapter just to wet your appetite slightly:
Chapter 1: My New Wand
Hogwarts had always been home. It was sanctuary and safety, something every witch and wizard understood and sorely missed when it was over. Before I even stepped foot into the warm, welcoming castle, I showed promise. Picking up on simple pieces of magic and trying to understand how it worked before putting it into practice. I was never seen without a book in hand and I went through most I could get my hands on. My father worked as a Healer in St Mungo’s so keeping up with simple medicinal potions and spells was easy enough and with my mother working as an Auror, I was always listening in on the latest dark creature she had battled.
Before Hogwarts, life didn’t seem real, it was like one big adventure. My brother, a fourth year Gryffindor, who had dark brown messy hair and crisp blue eyes, would tell me stories of his first year at Hogwarts and how intimidated he was by the sorting hat. He told me all about the different houses and I was terrified I’d be sorted into Slytherin; I didn’t want to be the odd one out in the family.
‘Most on mum’s side were Gryffindor,’ Darren said, as we walked through Diagon Alley, picking up my first set of school books. ‘Dad has a lot of Ravenclaws on his side, so I guess either one of those would make them proud. I mean there’s a few Hufflepuff and one or two Slytherin, but it’s mostly those two.’
We went into Flourish and Blotts and I happily scanned through the sections, while Darren went around collecting what I needed for that year. I always appreciated the things he did for me, always making sure I was happy and healthy and had enough to keep me occupied. He had been especially helpful that summer, looking after me when my parents were away and explaining things I didn’t understand in some of my books.
‘I think you’ll be in Ravenclaw.’ He said, wandering up behind me and selecting a book off the shelf.
‘Why?’ I frowned.
‘Because you’ve got the biggest brain in the world and Ravenclaws are smart as they come.’ He smiled down at me. I could see why he got so much attention and why he was so popular, he was fairly good looking and kind to everyone he came across. ‘You’ll be great don’t worry.’ Darren winked at me as we paid for my books. ‘Lockwood’s are made of tough stuff and even if you are in Slytherin, I’ll still love you.’ Darren put his arm around my shoulders and we left with my new school books. Next stop, Ollivander’s.
We wandered into the old, dusty shop and I glanced around at some of the wands on display, they all looked so elegant and I desperately hoped mine would be the same.
‘Miss Lockwood.’ A voice from over the desk floated towards me. ‘I wondered when you’d arrive and it seems you are accompanied by your brother. How are you Darren?’
‘Very well Mr Ollivander, thank you for asking.’ He smiled his winning smile.
‘Good, let’s begin.’ I looked at Darren who just raised his eye brows in excitement. Ollivander went into the depths of the shop before bringing back a small stack of boxes. ‘Now, most of your family favour wands made from either Rosewood or Ebony and cores of Dragon Heartstring and Kelpie Hair, though I believe your father’s was Mahogany with Kelpie Hair so, possibly mahogany would suit? We shall see.’ Ollivander said, with a hint of curiosity. He took out a dark wand and handed it to me, I felt it shake and tried to wriggle free of my grip before it was snatched away by Ollivander. We tried maybe thirty of forty different wands, before he gave me a strange look and wandered away to get another wand.
‘Possibly,’ Ollivander mumbled as he came back. ‘This one.’ He unwrapped a pale looking wand that had a beautifully sculpted handle. I took it and felt like the wand was talking to me, there was a warm buzz that ran up my hand, my arm, all the way through my body. ‘Elder with Phoenix feather. That wand has been here for nearly two hundred and fifty years and not one single witch or wizard has been able to match its power. I can see great things for you and that wand, Miss Lockwood.’
I looked up at Darren who looked so incredibly proud. Ollivander disappeared behind the shelves and we soon left the shop with my new wand in hand.
When we got home, my parents still hadn’t returned from work and Darren began telling me about what I’d learn in first year and all the different professors there were.
‘I mean Snape isn’t all bad,’ he said as we sat eating chocolate frogs in the back garden. ‘he’s just a bit thorough, not much of a personality, but as long as you do as he says and don’t talk back you’ll be fine… we’ve got a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher this year though, Professor Horne left to go study banshees in South America. Dumbledore didn’t say who’d be replacing him, though I heard Snape was looking to apply for the position. Hope he doesn’t get it to be honest.’
Mum and dad eventually came home and gave us a telling off for spoiling our appetite, but we just laughed and sat down to tell them about our day and show them my new wand. Dad seemed particularly interested in it.
‘Well, well, let me see.’ He said, slipping his glasses on and settling down at the kitchen table. His worn blue eyes scanned over the wand and I sat watching him. ‘What was the core?’
‘Phoenix feather.’ I said excitedly. ‘Elder, ten inches with a phoenix feather core.’
‘It certainly feels like a worthy wand for my daughter.’ He smiled at me over his thick black framed glasses. ‘Darling… Adrianna, come and see.’ He called my mother who was getting changed from a hard day battling with a nest of Boggarts. I laughed a little as my father was the only one who called her by her full name, everyone else just called her Anna, a trait I had inherited from her.
‘I’m sorry I rushed away, I had to change sweetheart.’ She said kissing the top of my head as she came down the stairs to see my wand. ‘What are we looking at?’
‘Angelina Lockwood’s new wand.’ My father said, proudly, I rolled my eyes at him, preferring to be called Angie. My father handed it to her and her eyes lit up.
‘Elder? I don’t think anyone on my side has had Elder before? George?’
‘Not on my side either.’ My father shook his head, still smiling.
‘Ten inches, I’m sure you’ll grow into the size.’ She said and slid her elegant hands over the whole slender frame. I looked up in admiration that both my parents knew so much about wands and what it meant to have a certain type. My mother brushed her dark blonde hair out of her face and her shining blue eyes stared down at me, smiling as she handed it back. ‘You’ll do great things with that wand.’ She said kissing my head again and I smiled up at my family, feeling that warm buzz drift up my arm again.
Just before the new school year began, Darren and I were playing on his broomstick in the back garden; he was an excellent flyer and even let me handle the broom on my own as long as I just flew around at a low level and made sure mum and dad didn’t notice. He was on the Quidditch team at Hogwarts as a Chaser and I’d heard he was well on his way to racking up a record number of points for an individual Gryffindor in Hogwarts history. My brother was the world to me, he just seemed to find everything easy and succeeded at whatever he wanted to succeed at.
My father called us both in for dinner and Darren brought us lower to the ground where I jumped off the broom and ran into the house. Darren followed putting his broom next to our school trunks that were packed and ready for us to leave the next day. Dinner smelled amazing. My parents had made my favourite roast chicken with mashed potatoes and carrots, they had made my brother his favourite meal before he left for his first day at Hogwarts as well.
We chatted excitedly about what the next year had in store for me and I was beyond excited to be on my way to the castle I’d heard so much about. I knew I wasn’t going to sleep that night thinking about my new adventure, but I didn’t care.
Once dinner was over, I helped my mother clean up the kitchen, telling her what spells she should use to wash the dishes and tidy away the dry cutlery; my father asked me to come into the cosy living area so that we could have some family time. Little was I expecting a rather small Barn owl to be sitting on my brother’s arm; my jaw dropped and I stepped tentatively towards it, hoping I wouldn’t scare him away.
‘You got a new owl?!’ I exclaimed, gently stroking the owl’s head which he seemed to enjoy. My brother and father just sniggered slightly. ‘What?’
‘I didn’t get a new owl, you did.’ Darren said still smiling down at me.
‘What do you mean? I thought I was taking Percy?’ I spun around to see both my parents smiling at me. Percy was our rather stupid Tabby cat, who had a tendency to eat anything that wasn’t in his food bowl.
‘Darren wanted to get you a present for your first year.’ My mother said, wrapping her shall around her shoulders. ‘He was determined to get you an owl.’ She chuckled.
‘I’ve been saving all summer for him.’ Darren said behind me. ‘Mum and dad said if I took you to Diagon Alley to get your school supplies and help out around the house then they’d help me get the best owl I could find. He’s only young, but he’s got lots of energy and he’s fairly smart. I bet you could train him to be the smartest owl at Hogwarts though.’ I couldn’t help myself, I hugged my brother tight as the young owl climbed onto my shoulder and nuzzled against me. ‘Welcome to Hogwarts.’ Darren whispered in my ear.
I pulled away and laughed, watching as the owl began exploring my arm and looking around the room. My father brought out a small book and a travel cage. ‘Your mother and I decided you’d probably need something to store him in and we got you a guide on how to look after him while you’re away.’ My father sat the cage down on the coffee table and the owl happily hopped onto the top of it, looking very proud of himself.
‘Thank you.’ I breathed. It wasn’t aimed at any one person; they all knew I was grateful to them for what they had done for me.
‘What are you going to name him?’ My mother asked and picked up Percy, letting him curl up in her arms. I looked at Darren and frowned.
‘What should I call him?’ I asked my brother who just laughed.
‘I don’t know, anything you like.’ He chuckled, flicking through the care guide. I thought hard on what name suited such an excitable creature and came up with only one that I thought had a nice ring.
‘What about ‘Ruben’?’ I asked the room.
My father raked his hands through his grey flecked brown hair and observed the owl and myself. ‘Ruben and Angie… I like the sound of it. Adrianna?’
‘Sounds like the beginning of an adventure.’ She nodded. We all sat up for a couple of hours longer and Ruben and I got to know each other a bit. I read through the guide and it told me that young barn owls soon grow into large barn owls so lots of sleep and plenty of food was a necessity. We eventually went to bed and I made sure he had a bowl of food in the bottom of his cage to keep him occupied while I tried to get some sleep.

There’s an interesting contrast developing as we watch Sam and Dean interact with the British Men of Letter. Mitch and Ketch are obviously meant to be presented as the British counterpoints to Sam and Dean - the Man of Letters and the Hunter, the Intellectual and the Brute, the Nerd and the Jock. But as we watch the Winchesters interact with the Men of Letters we see where these parallels break down. Yes, Sam may roll his eyes when Dean talks about his need to go punch something, but SAM is the one who gets the major kill against the Alpha Vamp that episode (just like he previously did against Ramiel). In similar fashion, while Dean is annoyed by Sam wanting to listen to lore podcasts on a road trip, DEAN is the one with the “Of course we know that” snark when Mitch comments about how they’re fighting a pureblood werewolf (just like he previously was the one to recognize Lady Bevell’s spell despite her assumption he wouldn’t). Sam and Dean *enjoy* different things about hunting, but they are both good at all of it. If they were roleplaying characters, their sheets would be damn near identical. They choose to hunt together, but like most American hunters they are perfectly capable of going solo - and have at various points in their careers. Sometimes American hunters may have to turn to someone like Bobby to research or “ask around” for them, but ultimately Bobby isn’t really a lore specialist. He’s just another hunter who has lived long enough to know more than most (and still own a house he can store books in). While some hunters have partners, a lot of those partnerships are temporary, with the only exceptions seeming to be family (Ellen/Jo, Mary’s Parents, Sam/Dean, Cesar/Jesse). By contrast, the division of labor in the British Men of Letters is RIGID. Before coming to America, Mitch has never killed anything. Ketch, on the other hand, is a point and click execution with no concern with what he’s being told to kill or why. After all, the whys aren’t his job, just like the killing isn’t Mitch’s. This division of reponsibility is how the Men of Letter’s maintain their callousness (that is causing their tension with the Winchesters). They are structured much like an insurance company. Insurance companies use division of labor to ensure than no one person is responsible for saying yes or no to a claim. This is important because if someone knew that they were responsible for denying someone coverage for a life saving procedure or compensation for the loss of their home, they probably wouldn’t be willing to do it. Instead, one person’s job is simply to crunch the numbers and give a report on the costs and benefits. Someone else looks at those numbers, now removed from any emotional context, and determines what the company should cover. And usually someone else entirely actually deals directly with informing the client and dealing with their complaints. Likewise, Mitch’s job is to figure out what they’re up against and how one would defeat it. His report would include whether it is capable of being a threat, actually killed people, and might kill people in the future. His higher ups then decide whether it should be eliminated. Ketch then executes that decision. He doesn’t meet with the psychic’s abusive parents. He doesn’t see the horror she’s lived through or hear her cry because she didn’t mean to hurt anyone. He just eliminates the threat once it is determined to be one. The breakdown of this division is already starting to affect Mitch, who is having to face the fact the fact that his reports don’t just lead to dead monsters. Sometimes they lead to dead children and crying mothers. Ketch, is less likely to be effected as he is presented not only to be compared to Dean but to be contrasted with Mitch. And yet, it is also possibly that working cases with the Winchesters will force HIM to pay attention to the human elements for the first time in the same way Mitch is being forced to pay attention to the deaths for the first time. Ultimately, though, Sam and Dean aren’t going to be able to be brought into the British Men of Letter’s fold. When dealing with the angels, only the people at the top got the whole picture. Here we are seeing the same thing. Sam and Dean aren’t lower level, only part of the story guys. And I am really, REALLY hoping this leads to Sam and Dean realizing their only way to get the successes of the Men of Letters isn’t to join the Brits but to restart the American chapter themselves. They are too skilled, too experienced, and too knowledgable to be anything other than senior management. Their facilities may be 60 years out of date, but they still HAVE them. And if they get Mitch [and Ketch] to defect, then they will have the info they need to update them. It’s actually kind of ridiculous how long they’ve been sitting on that Bunker with out creating somesort of network to give the rest of the hunter community access to their resources. They’re pushing 40. We’ve already seen one episode creating parallels between Dean and Rufus. The next logical step is for Sam to become Bobby. Or, you know, Dumbledore.

Not willing to resign himself to the muggle life his father was too quick to try to indoctrinate him into upon finding out (a bit of arrogant pride on his part); eventually discovering more of the Wizarding World on a global scale. Finding cultures that preformed magic wandlessly, and beginning to study their techniques until he mastered them himself.
As he studied his new skills, Stephen also learned more about himself. Confronting demons both literal and internal. Becoming stronger than he had been before; eventually returning a very different man with a new purpose. There was an array of strange and unknown, people needed defending and knowledge and limited understanding of parts of the picture had led to the downfall of more than just himself. Branding himself as a Professional Freelance Specialist in the Strange and Bizarre; and working sometimes along official organizations as a consultant; Stephen Strange began protecting the world from the untapped and unexplored parts of the magical and non-magical universe.

* — Based off of his canonical birthdate on this blog, he would have been three years older than Hermione Granger (the eldest of the trio).

Plot
Being orphaned as a baby, Harry Potter lived with his aunt, uncle, and cousin, who treat him worse than a servant boy. Living in the cupboard under the stairs, Harry has no friends, has no items to his name, and has little to look forward to in his coming life. That is, not until he starts receiving letters delivered by owl. Despite what his uncle desires, Harry eventually reads a letter, with the help of a giant man named Hagrid, to find out that he is not only a wizard but his parents were as well and he will be attending a boarding school for witches and wizards. At age eleven, Harry sets off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he meets his best friends Ron Weasley, a silly red-headed pure-blood (parents were both wizards) with a large and loving family, and Hermione Granger, a muggle born (parents were not wizards) who is smarter than everyone else in the room, grade, or possibly student body. Together, they get into all sorts of trouble, including making enemies with bully Lucius Malfoy and learning about a secret kept hidden in the school. But something dark from the past lurks in the shadows threatening to come out again unless Harry can stop it.
Who’s reading it?
Everyone. Written on a third grade level, everyone is reading it. Elementary school, middle school, high school, college, graduate, adult adults, middle age, senior, elderly. Everyone reads the Harry Potter series because of the many beautiful things it has to offer. The first of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, appeals to the younger ages (elementary and middle school) but by they time you get to the end, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, high school and older are fully into the story.
Why did I read it?
When I first began the series, I was in fourth grade. I was bored and wanted something to read. I made it through school by hurrying through school work to get to good book that I could read for hours while waiting for everyone else to finish. I had seen the first two movies and honestly, I did not love them, so I had reservations about reading the books. However, my mother did the full spiel: the books are better than the movies, all books are worth a read, these books are definitely worth the read, Harry is a great character, you will love the story, etc. I checked out the first book and read it in four days, which is impressive when you think about a fourth grader who was only reading it in class. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Harry was a character to which I could relate: a young child who was secretly brilliant yet still truly humble and ready to risk his life to save everyone else. Harry is the person I wanted to be in fourth grade, and he still is now that I am much older. I re-read the book several times but again recently, and each time I read it, something new and wonderful comes to my eyes, and I am able to relive the enjoyment of reading these books for the first time each time.
Evaluation
The Harry Potter series changed books forever. It changed young adults and their passions for reading. It got people to read who did not read before. It changed the way that we look at books and series. There is no evaluation you can give for this single book without mentioning the great impact that it and the rest of the series had on the entire world.
Rowling writes the book on the same level as her main character. She chooses her words specifically to match the tone of her narrator. Though her structures are intricately formed and may not be the same as an eleven-year-old would be able to write, her words are through him.
Harry is a wonderful character not only, because he is a truly good person but he is also a very human little boy. He makes mistakes that only children would make despite the fact that he has to save the world. He is a terrible narrator. The readers follow and eleven-year-old boy and expect him to notice everything in his surroundings and understand what it happening around him. Of course he does not. As a very young boy, he is focused on whatever he it thinking about and not everything else. He misses clues constantly. The only reason that he and his friends figure out what they have to do is because Hermione is a brilliant know-it-all who does all of the thinking for the boys.
But that is exactly why this book is brilliant. Harry needs his friends to help him. He could not succeed without the help of his friends. Friendship and love are the most important parts of the book by far. His uncle, aunt, and cousin do not love him like they should, but Harry survives through the positive attitude that there is hope, and Hogwarts gave that to him. Ron and Hermione became the friends and siblings that Harry had never had. His teachers become the adults and authorities in his life that cared about his well being unlike those who had been there before. Professor Dumbledore was the beginning of a father figure that would shape Harry as he grows. Hogwarts gave Harry the family for which he longed, and he does not take that for granted. Even at eleven, he can see how important family truly is.
The Issues
magic
minor in peril
abuse
bullying
racism
For a relatively short book with young characters and written for a young audience, there are a lot of controversial issues, all of which are pretty thoroughly explored.
Harry was orphaned as a child after his parents died. He was given to his aunt and uncle who resented him. He is locked away in a room under the stairs that is tiny and dirty. He is mentally and possibly physically abused. He is neglected and ignored. He is made to be a servant and is not treated well at all. He is absolutely miserable at home. At the school, a professor bullies him for seemingly no reason. He does not know him, and yet the professor berates and belittles him constantly. Draco Malfoy, a boy in his year, also bullies him and his friends for not being essentially one of the cool kids. He is particularly mean to those who are not pure-blood.
Pure-blood means generations of wizards. Half-blood means one parent is a wizard and one is a muggle-born. Muggle-born means both parents were muggles or non-wizards. The racism of the Harry Potter world has nothing to do with color of skin and place of birth and everything to do with blood status. Though the extent of the racism is not explained as such in this story, it is the beginnings of what will come in the future, which is extreme. However, readers see the difference of how people are treated depending on the status of their parents.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione put themselves into serious danger even though they are only eleven. They are young young adults and they risk their lives to save the world. Ron sacrifices himself in real-life game of chess where he is seriously injured and Harry is attacked by keys, almost poisoned to death, and has an evil teacher and dark lord attempt to kill him in order to get a stone that will keep the dark lord alive forever.
The world is magical. Magic is great and wonderful and runs this world. There is no working around that. The magic is also extremely dangerous and deadly. Harry’s parents are murdered by a wizard with magic. That wizard tried to murder Harry when he was a baby and again when he was older. Bullies have access to magic to enhance their bullying.
So why should we read it?
The magic is not anti-religion or evil like some may think. Magic is a means to tell a story not the actual story. The story is not about the power of magic but the power of love and friendship, neither of which are magical. Through magic, Rowling can show a strength in children that you cannot physically see in a normal human, or in this case a muggle. In a wizarding world, magic is the manifestation of that strength and power.
Abuse and bullying can and do happen to many people including those younger than eleven. Racism is abundant in reality.
How can we use it?
Magic is not evil. Magic is a means. Abuse and bullying happens, but Harry still made it, and so can others. In fact, Harry succeeds in thwarting an evil villain at such a young age despite his past. Readers can use this to see that they can do important and amazing things as well.
The power of love and friendship wins the book and the series. Love, friendship, family, and those kinds of things are important to real people. Young adults need those in their lives to be successful in everything that they do. Loners and antisocial individuals even need some kind of interaction, and positivity always makes things better.
Booktalk Ideas
Harry Potter, a malnourished, abused young boy immediately takes up for his new friend Ron Weasley when school bully Draco Malfoy is mean to him. Harry has had no love in his life and yet he immediately shows a compassion strong enough to stand up for someone he met only a few hours ago. How can Harry do that when he has had no experience previously?
Harry is immediately trusting of just about everyone in the wizarding world despite how awful the people in his life have been up to that point. How can he trust Hagrid so completely when Hagrid is literally giant and has never met him before?
What else can I read?

Anpanman - BTS Lyric Breakdown
Okay so I love this song more than life itself. It might be itching to beat out my all time favourite song which has held strong for just under a decade now (Saltwater Room by Owl City for the curious) and I just had to do a lyric break down for my own piece of mind.
Disclaimer: I don’t know Korean at all or Korean culture. I have some (read: a lot) of interest in Japanese culture (since I’m moving there in 17 days aaah). Mostly this lyric breakdown is the meaning I found in the words. If there is something I’m missing from not being aware of Korean culture PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I would love to add understanding. <3
Bold is Lyrics, normal is my commentary.
TL;DR: Anyone can be a hero, even if you need a hero yourself.
Anpanman
Waiting for you Anpanman Waiting for you Anpanman
Okay, let’s stop here. Anpanman. My North American equivalent here is like Captain Underpants. Anpanman is a child geared superhero. He literally has bread for a head. He has let starving children bite his head and then gotten his head replaced. He’s not weak per say, but he’s not this crazy all power hero. He is kind and genuinely wanting to better the world at any cost to himself. The idea of using Anpanman, rather than a crazy power hero really hit me as special right from the start. It tells me this isn’t a song about ultimate power, or that there is an ultimate cure.
I don’t have bicps or pecs I don’t have a super car like Batman A very cool hero is my fantasy But the only thing I can give you is Anpan
This section is breaking out these crazy things that comic book heros have that are just unattainable by most people. It’s this kind of idea of not being good enough and it’s important. Comic books, media in general, can make us feel like we don’t have the correct lives or the correct feelings to do anything worthwhile. This lyric is saying, I don’t have all this cool shit that makes super heros heros, all I have is bread. I’m not good enough to be super, I can only give what I have.
I’ve been dreaming to be a hero like Superman I jumped as hard as I can, sky high jump jump I’m not scared of scraping my knee They are the delusions of my naive younger days
Again, same point. I want to be this idolized figure. I want to be able to have or be these crazy things, and I’m not scared to try, but I just can’t do it. I can’t. The idea of these comic heros being some sort of fake dream as a child pulls me to the idea of just general idolizing as youth; that time when your parent is the greatest human on earth until you start getting older and realize that all people have flaws. Then the lyric turns and says; I’m not scared of trying my best though. That’s important.
I’m not a superhero Don’t expect too much I can be your hero I don’t know if saying something like this Is right, really But I must say it mom If I don’t say it, then who would You can call me say Anpan
This is where I start getting hyped at the lyrics. I’m not a SUPERhero. Saying, please don’t put me on this high pedestal. I’m not perfect. And I really love the doubt here, the kind of idea that maybe calling yourself a hero isn’t the right thing to do, and gives people the wrong idea about yourself. Then again, it turns around and says that sometimes people need that ‘hero’ so someone has to take that responsibility of being the hero even if they know they can’t be perfect. The world needs heroes.
Waiting for you Anpanman (Lemme hear ya say, lemme hear ya say) Waiting for you Anpanman (Turn it up, turn it up, turn It up) Will you push a little more (Lemme hear ya say, lemme hear ya say) I will be your strength (Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up)
This reads to me like a person coaching someone through a mental illness. It’s not saying it Anpanman will save you from all your troubles, but Anpanman can be your shoulder, your rock.I like this lyric because it gives me the feeling that the song is trying to say that, yes people need heros but heros are not the end all of helping people. People need to help themselves. I can’t be your house, but I can be your foundation.
Keep on turning, turning Anpan Keep ballin’ ballin’ still Bangtan Open your eyes and be a hero but still in a maze
You can be a hero even if you aren’t a fully realized person yourself. Even if you are lost yourself, you can help.
That young man, young man, young man Keep secretly secretly be scarred, totally But ballin’ ballin’ still Bangtan
Same point but louder this time. And here I get a little nervous because it kind of feels like it’s asking you to cover up your pain to help others. Which sounds noble on paper but in practice, it’s a recipe for personal disaster. But it’s also very satisfying to think that anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter your personal tramas, you can still be a hero to someone and that’s how I choose to read this.
I may hurt but I’m a hero, leave the fear behind Anpanman panman panman
SCREAMS LOUDLY. Okay, okay. Breathe. Again it’s enforcing that same point, but just the fearlessness. You do not need to be okay to help someon else move towards okay, you just need the courage to keep pushing, be strong. I don’t have to be perfect to help you. I can help you by being me.
I’m a new generation Anpanman I’m a new superhero Anpanman All I have is this song, one shot Lemme say “All the bad men, cop out” I’m a new generation Anpanman I’m a new superhero Anpanman All I have is this song, one shot Lemme say “All the bad men, cop out”
Now, I start to see that BTS could be referencing themselves. Putting that into context for the top stuff I’ve already looked at, makes it read like. Hey we can’t be your cure, but we can be your start. We have the ability to help you but our only ability is our music. We are not going to stop, we are strong. (Side note: I do feel like there is something lost in translation here because I’ve seen 3 or four translation for this so please hit me up if you have a better translation)
Sometimes, I’m afraid of everything Because I have so many things that I love
Maybe I like Harry Potter to much, but this made me think of the Dumbledore line that Harry should pity Voldemort because he cannot love. And it’s true, experience love of any kind is the best feeling in the word, but it can also be the worst. Love can be lost and that’s scary. But even hero’s are allowed to be scared because that gives them a reason to keep being a hero. Being a hero isn’t being always fearless, it’s wanting to protect the things you fear to lose.
Someone tells me that I’ve become an old bastard I don’t have the right, I should just keep on doing what I’m good at But I still want to be a hero
Being jaded, or turned cynical by life is real. Feeling like you can’t do anything other than what box you’ve been placed in by life is something I really struggled with personally as well. The first time I saw this translation I needed a minute because it was so real. Impostor syndrome is real. People, including yourself, will say that you can’t do certain things, but damn it I want to do those things and you can!
I choose to become a teacher with the direct goal not to teach, but to help teenagers. What right do I have to help teenagers? I’m a broken human with mental health issues from serious self-harm to regular panic attacks. But fuck that if anyone tells me I can’t help someone else. Let me suffer separately from my hero duties.
All I can give you is a red bean bread And tell you that you did a good job If you call me, I’ll fly right over Call me
This goes back to those early parts. Red bean bread (Anpanmans head) and support are sometimes all you need to do to help. So fuck you my own personal issues, if you need help I’ll be there to tell you you’re doing great and to stay stong. Let me help you.
[repeat chorus]
Honestly
I’m afraid of falling Of disappointing you all
Yes. All the yes. I want to help but what if I fuck up.
But I’ll use all of my energy To stay by your side
Even if I screw up, I’m going to keep trying to help.
I may fall again I may make another mistake
I’m not perfect. I never was and I don’t claim that I will be perfect in the future.
I may be covered in mud But believe in me because I’m a hero Yeah yeah
Bad reputation? I may have one. But if you need me, and believe in me I can still help. I like the change in this lyric from I want to be a hero to I AM a hero. It’s an acceptance and confidence. The song really solidfies the message for me here. Look at all these things that could go wrong, but I’m still going to be a hero. I’m not going to let imperfect things screw up my ability to help.
[repeat chorus]
Final Collection of Thoughts:
Holy shit this song speaks to me so deeply.
I like the reading of this being applied to themselves. With that interpretation, they are trying to say that they are not superman, they are not the all powerful, perfect vision of a hero that comic books create and that children are taught to idolize. They are just an average power level hero, at least if you take the whole song. The song says over and over that they have flaws and issues of their own but they will be the heroes the ARMY needs with their songs. Call me lame, but some of their songs make me feel less lonely and bring me joy. They are my Anpanman’s right now, yanking me out of a depressive cycle.
But I also like interpreting it as applied to the listener, in this case me. I’m not a complete human yet. I struggle to find myself, and I struggle with my own mental health issues. Just because I haven’t figured my shit out doesn’t mean that I can’t be helpful to someone else. That’s me as a teacher. God damn do I feel good when students came to me with personal issues they needed to talk about and I can offer them the support they need. Sometimes these issues were issues I directly faced and/or was still dealing with in my own life; that doesn’t mean I can’t help.
I’m not Wonder Woman. I’m not Captain America. I’m not bloody fucking Iron Man. I’m just me, trying to be the best me I can be. And if the best me I can be is Anpanman, then I will fucking be your Anpanman. I will screw up. I will self harm and hide it from you because you don’t need to see that shit. I’ll find my own Anpanman, while being Anpanman for you and that’s where I think the power of this song is. Hiding your own suffering from EVERYONE is not okay, but sometimes you hide your suffering for the betterment of others. I’m not going to tell my fucking Grade 10s I spent the weekend in the ER because I slashed myself a little too deep because I hate my body. That’s not helpful. I’m going to be my goofy, ‘confidant’ self and be the hero they need me to be in that moment in their lives. That’s my purpose.I might be broken but I will fix others.
Overall, the song is just a beautiful and I’m deceased now.
Thanks for reading. <3 Please let me know your thoughts. I’d love to here them.

HP Werewolf Questions
How come werewolves have been around for hundreds of years, spreading lycanthropy all willy-nilly, but there’ve only been two sets of werewolf puppies? I can’t think of any animals that are that bad at reproducing. Were there wizards going around in medieval times slipping condoms onto werewolves?
How come wolves that are human levels of smart don’t get any legal rights? Or if they do, how come they live in the woods? Just because humans are capable of surviving in certain areas, we don’t expect them to forever. What if they want to get an education? Do they have to pay taxes? Sentience is given to a lot of things in this setting that don’t have rights or responsibilities.
How come Wolfsbane potion was invented by Damocles in the 70s, and they didn’t immediately cover that with wizard healthcare? I get the wizarding world is supposed to be racist against lycanthropes, but they passed up a chance to protect their citizens from the super-scary disease. For the price of whatever a potion costs they could’ve traded lycanthropes for super-human physical labour shifts while they were wolfed-out. Or something! There are better options.
If bite and claw marks by werewolves (even in human form) don’t heal, how are they at all hard to identify? Why don’t they just ask people to scratch an auror volunteer when there’s doubt?
If getting bit by a werewolf while they’re human gives you a penchant for rare meat, how come werewolves aren’t tracked by their partners wanting more sushi? Smooching a werewolf with a cut in your mouth should change your dietary habits.
How come Lupin is the first werewolf to have kids? They’ve been around for hundreds of years and NO ONE either hid their condition from someone or found an accepting partner?
How come animagi need a license when it prevents werewolf attacks? If you live somewhere with werewolves pre-Damocles, wouldn’t you rather get busted for illegal animal powers than chewed on? That seems like a dumb law that would be a nightmare to enforce.
How come it’s “Dumbledore’s kindness” that lets Lupin go to Hogwarts? Is there legal grounds for denying a child access to public education because they have a transmittable disease? It’s not even transmittable except by saliva; you’d think there’s some combination of dry-mouth medication and lozenges that’d keep him alright and non-contagious in human form.
How come Hermione is so gung-ho about saving house elves (who don’t really seem to want to be saved, except that one guy) instead of werewolves, who are clearly humans with human minds most of the time, and still shat on by her society?
Again, how come there are all these firsts when these have been around for centuries and almost every culture in Europe/North America has them? If “folks tales representing [wolves] as mindless predators are now believed by wizarding authorities to refer to werewolves, not true wolves” then that is a lot of cultures and a long time for them to be around. Which is fine! But seriously, two litters of puppies? Ever?

i finally saw fantastic beasts and where to find them and here’s my spoilerly thoughts on it
overall I would probably say it had good ideas that were poorly executed
the obscurial concept is GREAT and i love it and obviously that’s somehow going to tie in w/ ariana dumbledore, since it was grindelwald who was so interested in one and we know dumbledore’s going to be in the next movie
however, “the us is incredibly hostile to magic” and “there hasn’t been an obscurial in america in 300 years” sounds absolutely fake. america should have a higher percentage of obscurials than other countries if they’re so anti-magic
HOW and WHY was credence overlooked by ilvermorny, ffs
no actually I’m gonna elaborate on this because the reason “””obscurials don’t live past 10″””??? is maybe??? because letters come at 11??? and potential or actual obscurials then get support/acceptance and therefore aren’t obscurials any longer???
i have absolutely no sympathy for a community that fails to look after its people and then puts them down like an animal when they become “””out of control””” due to abuse that the community should have prevented
bitch there’s a reason the obscurial plot was juxtaposed with a “magical creatures aren’t dangerous and need to be saved & understood” plot
did you intend to make me sympathize with gellert grindelwald, filmmakers??? was that an outcome that you even remotely intended???
that said, grindelwald is also a dick for being so rude while perceiving credence as a squib
any points gained by putting in grindelwald backstory are immediately lost by casting johnny depp, especially after using colin farrell to establish him (and jamie campbell bower in dh1). who is responsible for that. who is responsible for his awful mustache. someone needs to be held accountable here
that said, i am curious about how they’ll handle grindelwald since apparently he was causing trouble internationally for 25+ years before dumbledore beat him. i’m liking the international angle but am little incredulous that voldemort, who afaik contained himself to europe, if not great britain, would somehow “replace” him as Worst Dark Lord™ when he seems to be working on a much smaller scale
why would you include throwaway lines on how wizards participated in wwi (with dragons!!!) when we all know jkr’s never going to really answer the questions they raise
jacob kowalski definitely consciously remembers most of what happened; newt clearly says at first that the stuff can remove bad memories and there were definitely some good memories that happened
“occamies/ys always expand to fit their container” is fake or most of the atmosphere would be taken up by occamies/ys. i’m going with it’s up to the occamy how big it wants to be and they tend to enjoy being as big as they can
the danger level meter at macusa is so obviously referencing the modern terror threat level that i’m embarrassed jkr even invented it. i mean a lot of her stuff on magic in the us is fake but this is extra fake
this is honestly a peeve that the hp movies are also guilty of, but: they make magic too easy. the only time we see magic used to widely restore damage in the books is hbp, and it’s dumbledore and slughorn, both old and experienced professors. i can handle nonverbal casting (establish in hbp), but the degree of complexity to many spells seems like it would be beyond a decent chunk of the population
newt’s briefcase is either the most illegally enchanted object ever (space expansion charms are regulated!!!) or the fakest plot device ever
#haha this is like fifteen bullet points of complaints#like it's okay and it's cool to see the creatures finally but it's a cash grab and jkr's 'expanded universe' additions can be p. tiresome#@hp#*#anyway i'm going to check out the general fandom reaction to this to see if anyone else agrees or if there's stuff i missed
