Friends. Homies. Fam. Here is a list of SOME of the series I'm IMPATIENTLY anticipating the most. No one asked for this but I just felt like sharing.

Your Dear Daddy. The moment I saw Poonpun in that pink silk robe with the thigh tattoo and wearing that anklet in the promo pics I knew I wanted the series immediately. Obsessed! I'm excited for Fluke to be a lead finally because he deserves it and he and Poonpun seem to have excellent chemistry. I'm looking forward to Saitharn being saved by Sila who seems to be lost himself. I'm looking forward to watching Saitharn put it on Sila so good the first time that he decides that he's going to secretly rescue him and love him and worship him...because I know this whole tea farm debt is going to be a guise to keep Saitharn. I just know the series is going to be *chef's kiss*

Century of Love. I don't even know what the plot for this one is but the BTS pics are letting me know it's going to rip me in half. I'm expecting some scifi, soulmates, action, hurt/comfort, maybe some sacrifice, and romance. I'm most excited that we're getting more DaouOffroad and most importantly Daou's buzzcut because he looks soooooooooo good with it.

This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans. IDK man...I don't even care about cooking series like that but I'm excited for more SailubPon and even more excited to finally get some GarfieldBenz after PB viciously teased us with them. I'm also looking forward to Sailub breaking every single health code while he fucks Pon across that industrial kitchen. And also??? Benz's character being unapologetically flirty with Garfield's??? GIMME!

4 Minutes. Highkey thought it wasn't even happening anymore because...well you know. But now Bible has a new partner and I'm excited once again. I just know 4 Minutes is going to break us all into pieces and I'm excited to see Bible shine like the star he is and I'm excited to see how his chemistry is with Jes. And I just know the aesthetic of the series and the actual plot is going to be 20/10...BOC sure has the funds to turn this series into a masterpiece.

Jack & Joker. YINWAR HAVE FINALLY RETURNED TO US! And they're not in school! Whoever they work for heard us say we wanted that Bonnie and Clyde criminal lovers series they dangled in our faces with that one fanmeet and decided to deliver. I'm excited to see Joker being the cheeky seemingly trustworthy mastermind thief and Jack doing whatever he can to protect him because he knows he won't be able to stop him from skillfully robbing people blind. I need more criminal romances in my life.

SunsetxVibes. Wild we're getting this before Big Dragon 2/The Movie. Even wilder that this series is ALSO based on an mpreg story. I am not particularly interested in omegaverse BUT just like Pit Babe I am making an exception because I know I'm going to enjoy the series and I miss MosBank. We thought the chemistry was insane with Big Dragon but they are closer than ever these days and I know it's going to translate beautifully one screen. Much like the title, I'm here just to vibe because I know the plot is gon be a mess.

The amount of Xingqiu's brother mentions were insane. Surely we'll see him either as an NPC soon, right? Right? /j Honestly here he sounded pretty competent, nothing like "a simpleton" like Xingqiu's troubles voiceline suggests hmm...

The little model animations were SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD. contributed a lot to the experience and made it feel so much more alive. hu tao's expressions especially, but also yun jin's expressions, and Xiangling's "come back, get over here and eat!!!!!1!1!!!" was also really fucking funny. they've been adding these small animations for a while but this event specifically had so many of them and the effort paid off <3

in a similar vein I'm impressed how smooth the animation/model actions were when Xiao put the sigil on us

my agenda is speaking, but I wish Xingqiu and Hu Tao directly talked during the farewells section. something something chivalry and sacrifice. Hu Tao makes her peace with giving up everything to resolve the Tao Dou issue, but is Xingqiu at peace with losing a friend even tho its selfish of him to want her to stay? he has personal stakes in this please just let them talk a little

I'm really really glad they went through with the death, they showed Hu Tao's emotions, they showed her father and grandfather waving her off. I broke, she looked so tired but satisfied (thinking about her vision story, where she waited so long for her grandfather to never appear vs him visiting her for just a brief moment here)

my other favorite shot is when traveler pulls her out and she looks at them in muted surprise. she just looked so sad and fragile and in need of a hug :(((

the Themes (waves hands wildly). hu tao's father's lingering regrets were his fatal flaw, and so Hu Tao settles her affairs properly and steels herself before going to die. she leaves behind the plum blossom branch just like her grandfather left his hat.. genuinely what the hell. the parallels between her cutscene goodbye and her saying "happy lantern rite" kills me

the epilogue last year with the fontaine tourists was pretty fanservicey, and tbh the epilogue the year before was also somewhat fanservice to me, (liyue gang dinner and zhongli venti teasing) though I liked it better. However I think this epilogue was actually really good— the hanging out and the fluff felt natural, it fit with everything else and wasn't super sudden. Maybe this was because of all the setup that happened (Yun Jin and Xiangling's promises to Hu Tao, Xiao and Yelan's dynamic built up in Perilous Trails and their earlier exchange), so the payoff is good instead of forced. After the trials and danger they got put through, everyone gets a chance to relax, and I appreciate the slice of life after the main plot. also Yun Jin's opera was crazy good considering it was not a cutscene, the animation and camera angles really sold it

I thought the special guest was xiao again, like how LR 3.4 had him dragged to the harbor by Hu Tao.... xiaolan banter was also v good though.

Okay ummmmmm I'm doing this dumb art challenge where I, someone who has never been in the pokemon fandom, Attempts to make a fakemon with as little information about pokemon as possible. Mostly as a character design practice? To see what I can gather from just looking at pokemon designs, with minimal research into lore and things. Like I looked up what the types were, but made sure I didn't research much beyond that. Anyways here's my horrible little children.

This guy's is supposed to be a rock type, and is intended to look like a statue. The first stage (is that what it's called????) Is supposed to look like a poorly crafted statue made mostly of clunky shapes with little marbles for eyes. The other one is intended to resemble a much more detailed statue with more accurate anatomy. (NO idea if that makes sense in pokemon lore but y'knowwwwww)

These guys are actually intended to look like a black phase wolves, which are born very dark colored but get lighter as they age.

These are NOT intended to be the absolute final designs of these guys, these are just concepts!!! Soooooooooo if anyone has tips on how to make these idiots actually look like pokemon, feel free to tell me!! (Also feel free to suggest names cuz I genuinely have NO idea how pokemon names work 😭)

Shibajuku Girls: The Return?

Soooooooooo I've been debating whether to post about this at all because I doubt anyone will find it very interesting, but doll gossip is thin on the ground these days and I'm not quite ready to go to bed yet, so eff it let's go--

Alright so, those of you who follow these things may remember back during this year's Toy Fair it was announced that for some inexplicable reason the Shibajuku Girls doll line was planning a comeback. For reference: These 13" dolls from the Australian toy company Hunter Products originally turned up on shelves in the US back in the mid-2010's, to a fairly lackluster reception. Between their unusually high price point ($30-$35, a good deal above the average for fashion dolls at the time) and the fact that they are a rather blatant knock-off of Pullips, no one seemed to be that into them. In a way with their hair play gimmick (a lot of charms and hair clips) meant to interest children in Japanese street fashion I suppose one could see them as a precursor of the Decora Girlz, albeit with far lazier and less successful execution. I did end up buying one--Yoko--for the big head collection, and she's...fine, if forgettable. I like having her in the mix for variety, but I could never quite work up the enthusiasm to get another. The demise of ToysRUs around the time of their release probably didn't help matters any, as it was one of the few places that stocked them. These dolls lingered on the shelves of my local Target seemingly forever, before quietly disappearing to absolutely no fanfare.

But to bring it back to Toy Fair 2024--

For reasons that NO ONE I've heard speak on the subject can quite understand, seemingly out of nowhere Hunter Toys showed up at Toy Fair this year with a display of older dolls from the first two waves of Shibajuku, plus a wall of these mock-ups for a projected third series of anime-inspired characters. If you look closely at the 'prototype photos' in the boxes--not actual dolls--they appear to literally just be restyled Pullips. A lot of people (myself included) speculated that they may have put the money into creating a new head sculpt that more closely replicated the doll this line was always made to emulate, and the lack of actual dolls in boxes was a sign that this Shibajuku 2.0 head had yet to go into production in time for the event.

Turns out--no. That's not what they did at all. So--

A few days ago through a series of random browsing encounters I stumbled across listings for two of the five proposed 'Shibajuku Anime' dolls on Walmart's website. They are showing up as out of stock, but if you put them on your wishlist you can add them to your cart from there (though not check out), which is a pretty sure indication that they're expected in stock online and in stores soon.

So...what to say about these. First of all they quite obviously have the same old Shibajuku face. The fashions have considerably less detail than the prototype photos, which in itself I'd be willing to forgive for reasons I'll get to in a minute, but the main thing that overwhelmingly stands out to me here is that Kiki, one of the two characters shown with a darker complexion in the mock-ups, has gone from having tan skin and white hair to pale skin and black hair. Which, yeah no fuck that. No way of knowing if this was the brand's decision or a specific request from Walmart, but whichever way you slice it, it sucks. Lack of diversity was a huge issue with the first iteration of this line, and after the promise of a course correct it looks like we're back to more of the same. I will definitely be bending a critical eye on them to see if the other dark-skinned character, Sakura, receives a similar whitewashing :/

Now, with that rant out of my system, is there anything good to say? Well, the price, for one. These are set to retail for $19.98, which is significantly below what they sold for originally. No doubt the lower quality fashions and lack of accessories have a lot to do with it, but on the whole I'd say it's a plus. Also...as much as as I would have loved to see the ensuing drama if they had had the audacity to churn out a more blatant Pullip clone, for continuity's sake if nothing else I'm glad they stuck with the old face. She's a weird little bird and despite it all she deserves her place in the wider family of Big Head dolls, however derivative that might be (I mean, if anything Pullip needs MORE clones, Blythe has such a start on her in that arena....).

And finally (FINALLY) to wrap things up--will I be buying one? Perhaps surprisingly--yes! I plan to order Akira when she becomes available to ship. I think she's decently cute--you all know my bias for green hair--and I have a purely academic curiosity to compare her to my 'classic' Shibajuku. Plus, despite all my dismissive snark, I would actually like to see this relaunch be successful. I'm always in favor of diversity in the doll market, and this particular type of doll has been sadly under-represented of late. There is plenty room on the shelves for more big head girlies! MGA is daily signing that real estate away at an increasingly rapid pace XD My hope is that they do well enough to warrant the release of the other three dolls from the proposed new line-up, and that maybe--MAYBE--if the Dolly Gods are kind we will see Sakura with her original dark skin tone, as intended.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee ok that's enough sleep-procrastinating for one night, I'm done. If anyone else cares about this at all I'm sincerely curious to hear your thoughts.

It had been four months, and you -and Keigo- were utterly miserable. Though you knew that he'd want you to talk to him, you refused to put more weight on his shoulders.

He was also missing you, plus he had to worry about fighting villains, filling out reports, keeping up with the Commision's standards, keeping a smile on his face, and whatever he had to do for the underground work that you were sure he was having to do on top of everything else.

In your opinion, your feelings didn't matter as much as Keigo's mental health, and so you would keep quiet, smile, and keep your head high for your beloved Keigo.

A few more tears fell down your cheek as you stared at Keigo's profile picture. It was another one of the thousands you took without him knowing. He was staring at a picture of you lovingly, and you luckily caught a picture of his love struck expression, it was honestly one of your favorites.

HIs blonde locks were messy from his slumber, his honey eyes heavy with sleep, and his chest bare. His hand was working to detangle his fluffy hair as he smiled up at a picture of you he had xinsistedx to put on the wall in the hallway- much to your embarasment.

After you took a few you snuck up on him, wrapping your arms around his waist as your burried your face into his warm shoulderblades.

"Baby BIrd! What'cha doing sneaking up on me like that?! Stalker~!"

"You're one to talk! Who was just staring at a picture of the other person?!"

"I couldn't help it! You're just so goregous!"

The memory brought more tears as they cascaded down your wet cheeks, increasing in speed as the dam started cracking.

As another notification went off you clicked your black screen, reading Keigo's newest text swiftly.

Right as you were about to critizize his grammar your balconoy door slammed open, causing you to jump out of your skin.

"I'm home Baby Bird~!" Keigo exclaimed, thrusting out his arms dramatically.

"Keigo.." you whisper, eyes scanning Keigo's familiar form.

He seemed a bit bulkier, and his hair was longer. HIs honey eyes were heavy with exhaustion, but were shining as they searched for your form, immediately focussing on you when you spoke.

His hair was a mess, along with his hero costume and cracked glasses- though he stilled looked incredibly attractive.

"Baby Bird!" Keigo smiled, hurrying towards your huddled figure. You were laying on your back on the expensive love seat Keigo insisted you needed for movie nights. You had told him that it would be too small but he just grinned and replied, "I know, that's the point! We'd be forced to be squished against one another!"

"K-Keigo." You whimper, sitting up to let him take a seat next to you.

"Baby what's wrong?!" Keigo exclaimed, immediately sitting down to pull you into his lap, rocking you back and forth while kissing any skin he could reach- immediately bringing you comfort.

"I- I just-"

"Shhh it's okay baby. You can wait to tell me." Keigo soothed, kissing your lips sweetly.

Your lips trembled as you tried to hold in your sobs, causing Keigo's heart to break.

"It's okay Baby Bird, you can let it all out. I'm safe, you can trust me."

You wobbly nodded, telling yourself that you wouldn't let your emotions win.

"I love you so much." Keigo whispered, pressing a lingering kiss to your forehead.

Sobs spilt from your lips as you clung to Keigo, tearfully babbling about how much you missed him and how hard it was to keep quiet. You eventually started venting about other things that were going wrong in your life. Keigo stuck by you the entiret time, listening to every word.

After your sobs died down and you simply dug your face in the crook of his neck he gently sang to you, luring you to a peaceful slumber.

Blinking open your eyes you look around, wondering how you fell asleep.

You remembered talking to Keigo, and then breaking down-

"Keigo?!" You call, worried that his return was a mere dream.

"Yes my darling?"

Smiling, you hurry to jump in his arms, nuzzling your cheek against his.

"Good morning baby." Keigo whispered, kissing your lips lovingly.

"About last night.. I'm sorry for-"

"Baby Bird, if you apologize for having feelings I swear I'll-"

"No no! I'm sorry for hiding them from you!"

"Oh- well then you will be forgiven as long as I get lots of cuddles and kisses.

So. I've just finished the quest. Hoyo got me good ngl. Sorry if it's bit messy I'm still in shambles

Spoilers for v.21 bellow!!!

So happy Aven is alive like literally so relieved. I was so anxious about it I started worrying I won't be able to work tomorrow if something happens to him lmao.

I was very happy that the way I characterize Aven in my head played out in the game but at the same time I was low-key devastated.

It was nice to see that he can be playful and a bit silly, like when he and Ratio were solving puzzles and getting on each other's nerves. It was also nice to see that his masks slips easier and more often than I thought. Honestly everything about him is just so peak fiction like he's cunning and low-key manipulative but he's also very sentimental, he says the end justifies the meaning and says that betrayal is a tool he can use but he actually refuses to sacrifice others and says that he considers it to be a dirty game. Like he's soooooooooo

Also "future" Aventurine. Evil shadow self lmao. He was fascinating because on one hand he low-key represents Aventurine's mask. However he also represents the pent up negative emotions and thoughts he has towards himself. Which is cool because I mean who knows what hides underneath the mask better than the mask itself.

I'm happy he started his journey to self acceptance thought. Like to be honest I'm very satisfied with the way his arc was written. Hated to see him in pain but it's cool they gave him the space to be broken and vulnerable in front of the player, addressed his past and how it affects him.

Topaz was surprisingly nice when talking about him I thought she can't stand his ass. She did sound sad when talking about him "dying" so I presume she DOES care. And so does Ratio!!!!! I hope hoyo will explore Aven's relationships with them and his arc will lead to him realizing that there are people who care about him regardless of his status.

Outside of Aven's arc. I like the way Sunday was written. We didn't spend much time with him but I feel like they did the most out of it like you can see what kind of person he is. Obviously there's more to learn but still. That being said, I can't stand his ass 😭 He gave me the ick during his scene with Sparkle and after 2.1 I don't think I'll find it in myself to ever like him but we'll see, after all I was sure I won't like Aven since he works for the IPC but here we are.

And about the final twist. Yeah. Didn't see tgat coming and thanks god I didn't spoil it for myself. That being said, I don't think Gallagher would actually kill someone, so I think the angelic siblings will be fine.

Also. Aven's boss form is sexy af I was staring at him and his little slutty waist when Luocha decided to intervene with his "what is it we're waiting for? 🙄🙄🙄" Like??? Boy be quite??????

Most fun story to write: Life was a willow (and it bent right to your wind). The entire premise is SO SILLY and it was just a blast to present it for Kinktober.

omg hi anon this question made my entire day <3333 gonna answer beneath a read more as always because when talking about deep end i am this trc meme

okay so firstly! i wrote deep end 3 times. the original draft had a final wordcount of 126,978 words. the middle draft had a final wordcount of 175,065 words. the final draft's wordcount is not finalized yet because i am still editing & still adding one scene to the epilogue, but obviously we've already surpassed the first draft's wordcount, so that's fun.

as you can see, about 50k words were added in the middle draft! there are a lot of reasons for this. chapters 8 & 9, as well as about half of chapter 10, did not exist in the original draft. i added them during rewriting because i felt we hadn't spent enough time with enjolras & cosette.

combeferre and éponine were almost nonexistent in the original draft. not just as a couple, but individually as well. every single grantaire & éponine scene was added in the middle draft, and most of enjolras & combeferre's scenes as well.

i actually didn't cut any full scenes out! there were quite a few though where i started writing a scene, realized it was wrong, and erased what i had written and started over. for instance, this bit in chapter 18:

in the original draft, i tried writing enjolras turning to grantaire at this point and saying, "I think I'm in love with you," before cosette answered the door. obviously, i ended up deciding against this, mostly because i decided the kiss scene would pack more of a punch if enjolras realizes he's in love with grantaire right when he's in the middle of their argument.

i also deleted soooooooooo many arguments. this is probably surprising considering how often they argue in this fic, but at least once a chapter i really had to stop myself and say, okay no this is getting unhealthy. i enjoy writing arguments too much apparently - which is good for writing exr, but only to a certain extent.

originally, grantaire was not going to have a sister. it genuinely did not even occur to me until chapter 11 (which was chapter 8 at the time), but once it did occur to me, i couldn't not do it. his grief plotline became way too dear to me way too quickly.

the biggest changes i made during writing all had to do with reordering events!! originally, karaoke happened somewhere around chapter 8. i ended up moving it wayyyyyyyyy back because i felt like their flirting was out of place so early in the story.

i also moved enjolras' arguments with cosette and grantaire to an earlier point than i originally intended. at first, i thought they were going to happen around the second-to-last chapter, but i moved them forward a lot earlier because i thought more work needed to be done with enjolras.

the chapter that underwent the most changes from the middle draft to the finished draft is chapter 24. obviously i can't say just yet what those changes are, but i'm really really happy with how that chapter turned out and i hope you all will be as well <3

several of my personal favorite scenes in this fic are actually cannibalized from something i tried writing and gave up on a few months ago. marius getting mugged in chapter 4, the hamlet conversation in chapter 7, and enjolras tending to grantaire's broken nose in chapter 14 were all taken from the same abandoned wip.

as for some more random tidbits that i find fun:

a fun fact for everyone is that cosette did not pull the phrase "who has a flag where he should have a heart" out of thin air! she takes this from courfeyrac in chapter 13:

also in chapter 19, enjolras means to say that Train to Busan is his favorite horror movie ending. i didn't just choose that because i love that movie (although i really really do) but because. well. i'm not going to spoil the ending for you if you haven't seen it, but... it was very deliberate is all i'm saying.

i really cannot overstate how much of this fic only exists because of cossette notebookmusical. for starters, i only even attempted writing it because she said "jamie if you don't write this." she also got to spend months listening to me bitch about it and receiving so many horrible snippets from the original draft so coco, if you're reading this, thank you from the very bottom of my heart 🫶🏻

more specifically, the entire beginning sequence of chapter 17 with grantaire staying the night at enjolras' apartment was inspired by cossette! i was asking her for situations to put the blond man in and one of her ideas was that he loses his keys. so everyone say thank you cossette!

also the bit in chapter 19 where enjolras thinks about combeferre a psychology minor is the worst thing to ever happen to you was added after i said something to cossette and she said something along the lines of, "would you like to elaborate on that?"

the ending bit of chapter 23 is also inspired by and written for cossette. you'll see what i mean in a few weeks.

there are a lot more bits and pieces inspired by things that cossette has said and done, or added just to make her laugh, but if i listed all of them i would be here forever. just know that this entire fic is cocoservice and it is only because of cossette that it exists at all <333333

there is also a collection of scenes i'm considering writing as "bonus content" for when the fic is fully posted - mostly scenes that already exist, but from another point of view, and a few that are only mentioned in passing.

i mean what happened most recently and what most people are talking about is this article that just published, talking about the potential rbr swap and who's up for the seat, but does so in a way that also makes it seem like a) daniel actually WAS moments away from losing his seat at the summer break (but don't worry, he's saved it now 🙄), b) liam's test a couple weeks ago went really well actually and rbr are seriously considering him (something literally only the race was saying and even they've walked it back in the weeks since), and c) rbr (and specifically horner) don't want yuki as a red bull driver mainly because of his temperament, then goes on a weird tangent about how MAX is angry and that's fine so why should they care about yuki being angry too, as if the entirety of the second seat doesn't revolve around the necessity to have a driver you know will play the team game as much and as often as you need him to, which is something yuki demonstrably showed he cannot do with that stupid fucking post race divebomb in jeddah.

but on a bigger picture and more personal vendetta level, this man has been talking absolute bullshit for fucking YEARS at this point, and the fact that anyone in the daniel fandom has at any point decided every word that comes out of his mouth is the be-all, end-all simply because he got a few exclusives from daniel's team at key points in 2022 and maybe into 2023 (can't remember for sure, can't be arsed to check) is so fucking beyond me that i truly cannot even comprehend it. like once again, lest we not fucking forget the way that nate was SOOOOOOOOOO confident daniel was definitely 100% going to be going to merc in 2022 because merc wanted him at every single race and no one would take a reserve spot that didn't put you at every single race and keep you super close to the sport (even tho that's literally EXACTLY what daniel was saying he wanted time and time again). even in 2022, half the shit he was saying was clearly just his (CLEARLY WRONG) personal opinion, yet time and time again daniel fans continued (and continue to this day) to treat him like some fucking god who has the inside track on the Absolute Truth of daniel's situation lmao and once again i say: IF NATE SAUNDERS HAS NO HATERS I'M FUCKING DEAD!!!!!!!!!!

this isn't a matter of censorship like "omg she's showing skin!11!!!", rather I'm just kinda tired of every single Hoyoverse chick and her grandmother being given clothing that's half-uniform and half-party outfit. like make up your mind Mihoyo, is she going to the club or going to fight aliens and crap? T_T

Helia even has the whole "exposed shoulders under a coat" thing going on. I'm pretty sure there's a fundamental principle of the Imaginary Tree that states that any female-presenting sentient being that has an even slightly complicated design (so basically not an NPC ) MUST have exposed shoulders, even if they're under a loose coat. it was kinda funny at first and like "huh weird but cool I guess" but now it's getting soooooooooo exhausting seeing every new Hoyoverse character and being able to perfectly predict the whole heels + exposed shoulder + tummy-or-hip windows + giant tits (on most characters) thing they have going on.

like, I love EVERYTHING else about Helia's design. I love the dual-wielding pistols she has like Kiana, and her gameplay seems super cool. Easily the Part 2 character I'm looking forward to getting the most so far. The colors are neat, the actual outfit itself is pretty nice and I like the detailing and textures. I love all of it except the midriff because it just feels so out of place.

For comparison, Valkyrie Ranger had an exposed midriff but it was covered with sheer fabric so that it at least felt like a coherent outfit of some sort. It's still kinda funky when you think about it too hard, but at least it reads like a uniform when you glance at it or see it in-game. Ditto with Void Drifter.

You don't need to show tons of skin to make a character visually appealing. Maybe their internal stats show that horny whales like exposed tummies more than coherent design? idk >.>

hello can you spare a few minutes of your day to see me spiral about dune?

when dune part 1 came out in 2021 i didn't give it any fucking attention, i thought it was another overhyped blockbuster designed to fail (i didn't know it was directed by villeneuve, who i love) and i was sooo sick and tired of seeing timothée chalamet's face and hearing about him

well.

now part 2 came out and it instantly had 93% on rotten tomatoes and 4.5 on letterboxd and people called it a revolutionary cinematic achievement and i was like 😶 damn. maybe i was. cómo se dice. Wrong

so i watched part 1 in my home and i was Blown away by it. i didn't think it was possible for a movie to have cinematography and visual effects THIS good. the story was a little hard to follow but i took my time with it and allowed myself to go back whenever i pleased and wrote out the names and locations and motivations and it helped so much!!!! i fucking love it to bits, and i became so excited to watch part 2 (on a theater!!!!!!! i love going to the theater and i Knew part 2 would be a Theater Movie)

so. i watched part 2. and. i don't even know how to properly convey this but i feel like i had a religious experience in that movie theater. i genuinely feel like cinema was invented especifically so that one day this film could be made. like the entire 120 years of cinema we've had have all culminated in this

by far the BEST movie theater experience i've ever had and i'm soooooooooo invested in this story and the acting and (again) the cinematography and visual effects. what WAS that. i've never seen anything like it. like i'm aware it was a book before and a fucking revolutionary and influential one at that but to be Truly honest i had never even heard about it? like Now i know it inspired everything sci-fi related that came after it the same way lord of the rings inspired everything fantasy related that came after it. but genuinely i had never heard of it and i feel like that's such a shame

but at the same time i'm not sad about it at all bc i'm so glad i got to experience this film with fresh eyes and a fresh perspective and just allow myself to be blown away by it

i don't even have to say anything about the cinematography and the visual effects. we all know they're game changing and will be talked about for years to come bc For Sure they've now become a reference for what blockbusters should aim for at a Minimum

the soundtrack and the sound design. they sounded earth shattering in a cinemark xd movie theater so i cannot imagine what it must be like in imax (and i'm fucking Going to see it imax in the next couple of weeks if it kills me). they fit the movie perfectly and were detrimental for the immersion and the world building

the production and costume designs hello?????????????? they're so unique and so well done and so gorgeous and say so much about the story and the characters and help build the world and immerse the audience so much. everything is so thought out and lived in and just plain beautiful. damn

the screenplay. i'm such a sucker for political sci-fi stories but they're Very hard to pull off and most importantly they're very hard to convince me enough to suspend my disbelief. but this one. THIS ONE. the cautionary tale of a supposed messiah forced into this role that ends up usurping his power to lead the very people who believed in him into war and loss is so. SO poignant and so up my alley i can't believe i haven't seen More stories like it?? but truly how Can there be stories like it if this is one is so complex and so thought out and so satisfying to see unfold??? this feels like it was catered specifically to me, to what I like to see in storytelling and to How i like to see it being done

the acting. we got our zendayas and javier bardems and rebecca fergusons and austin butlers who all fill their roles beautifully and do a fucking A+ job at what they were Supposed to do. like i believed in them every step of the way, they truly were their characters and the movie only worked in huge part thanks to them

timothée chalamet. MAN. like i said i was never a huge fan of him and absolutely could not see the hype about him and was so tired of seeing his face everywhere. i truly thought before watching these films that he was cast as the protagonist just bc he's the perfect tolken conventionally cute/handsome young white boy but FUCK ME. fuck me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm now mesmerized by him. it was so so so important how he started out part 1 looking like this scrawny little boy who didn't know shit about the world. bc that gave him so much room to grow!!!!!!! his pain when having the dreams/visions and his conflict about being the duke's son and later on the supposed messiah, his want to feel a part of Something (and that something becoming the fremen), but later on evolving into this hunger for power and blood. god in the second half of the movie???? he's SO reverential and commanding and grandiose. the fucking way he holds a room in the palm of his hand is astounding, i genuinely didn't think he was capable of that. the way he carries his body and his voice!! the cadance he chose for his moments of imposing his messianic form onto the people is so on point. the scenes where he makes everyone kneel and bow for him made me cry out of sheer grandness of what i was witnessing. passionate cinema representing the journey of this pained boy who evolved into a godlike, tyranic status..............

i wanna live in this world a little longer. all i wanna do is rewatch it and read about it and watch about it and talk about it.

Like yeah obviously it's a stretch to posit any such hypothetical as a "good" outcome. but certainly no more than it is to wholeheartedly endorse any of the current endings; the in-universe arguments for all of them are made by parties with clear biases and motives, and there exists no concrete lore to prove anybody is the "correct" choice or whatever. That's half the point of Dark Souls/Elden Ring plots--unraveling "truth" from myriad twisted narratives is messy and not always possible. You have to make inferences and judgments informed, inescapably, by your own biases.

And, yes, the pests engage in slavery in mines but nearly every faction in the Lands Between does that(I think the only exceptions are Rykardans and the immediate Miquellans...? But the troll-pulled pilgrim carriage is ambiguous in fealty). If anything, we see most other factions being markedly more abusive to their subjects(omens, demi-humans, albinaurics, everything directly involving Marika, etc).

More interestingly, taking a step back-- the rot worshipers are direct foils to Millicent; they differ meaningfully only in attractiveness and their inferences.

The kindred imagine the presently sleeping Malenia to want something different from what Millicent specifically does... but both parties are assuming; both Millicent and the Pests have specifically only been around while Malenia was comatose and unable to voice her will. so like. nobody has any idea in the moment what her takes during and after Aeonia are. unless Malenia actually was awake before the Tarnished arrived and did object to the kindred hanging out around her(for which there's no evidence afaik)... it's moot, which party was "correct," barring retrospect colored(not confirmed) by information only revealed later and to which only the Tarnished is privy. And that evaluation would be meaningless by nature anyway.

They're not even doing wrong by Malenia--at least, not knowingly. They just want their goddess's favor... like everybody else. They're certainly weird about it, but bear in mind that our(Millicent's) definition of help involves beating Malenia to death soooooooooo are we really in position to judge the pests' plans, whatever they may be?

I mean. I'm just saying. If the pests/gowry/worshipers were sexy ladies or voiced like say Morgott or Rykard, people would be all over them. It is specifically because they're not fuckable that they fall behind other factions in metatextual moral evaluations.

your post about quackity is soooooooooo good it makes me have so many more questions but especially your point about the chess pieces ... foolish has been referring to this (island, experiment, dance between the feds and the islanders??) as a game. i don't know if we'll ever be sure if he was doing it intentionally or unintentionally but now the chess pieces are really making me think it was intentional which then leads to what does foolish know ???? what is he doing here and what is he not telling us and how does it relate back to quackity and the federation. And fit saying everyone is there for a reason. AND ALSO foolish has always wanted to be king of whatever was his interest at the moment which could be just silly goofy but also relates back to the chess game that may or may not be happening.
