Gosh the amount of talent on this site is unbelievable. Breathtaking. Dumbfounding. Overwhelming. Every day you log on and see thousands of exquisite artists. Like, people say, "Oh I'm not that good," but that's because you're walking into a living art studio every time you open tumblr. You're good. You're great! You're all great. Look at all the drawers and painters. Look at all the writers. Look at all the writing. Look at the gif makers and the analysts and enthusiastic fans with fantastic recall for what they love. Look at the music. Voice acting. Video editing. Animation. Comedy. Look at the shitposting, a talent of joy if there ever was one. Look at the kindness to compliment each other's stuff. You think you're mediocre? Wrong! Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong! Each person here is a star in the sky and together we make constellations.
#shuddup I'm feeling sappy#blabbing Haddock#it's just like#every time someone thinks they're bad#I feel like#it's because you're seeing an UNPRECEDENTED amount of talent#that humans in past centuries#wouldn't have had THIS much overwhelming access to#in this volume#you're seriously amazing#all of ya

With all the respect and love for your writing in the world, I would not count the neutral votes. The thought of you writing that fills me with horror and disgust, but I did vote neutral because it’s your blog and ultimately your choice. If, however, you’re going to count the neutrals as part of the yes group, I’m going in to change my vote to no. I love your writing, but that’s a level of depravity that makes me physically ill and I will not be part of its arrival. That is a slippery slope and I want off the sled.
girl it's just urine calm down.

This isn't even that serious but I increasingly think this is a major role in how people operate. This is about conservatives and yeah def, but I think it operates just as much in all sorts of contexts, especially now with how social media has turned dogpiling into a moral art. Look at how both TRA and GC spaces are obsessed with their own groupthink. And yes I do think GC spaces are in pretty bad shape in that regard, for all their talk of calling TRA spaces a cult.
Hell, I think a significant number of bi AND gay people are afraid to actively oppose biphobia like they might oppose other forms of prejudice because they know it'd be seen as cringe and stupid. I think this is why people react with such hostility if you ever ever bring up statistics about bisexual people.

the conversation on difficulty in games is always so weird because like.
Different games obviously have different things they want, and developers should be able to make games as difficult or easy as they want. I don't think it's necessarily a moral failure for a game to not be complete-able by some portion of players- I think that's just a side-effect of the medium. I don't think it's reasonable to claim that it's ableist for a puzzle game to require you to solve the puzzles to progress, in the same way it wouldn't be for a rhythm game to require you to beat certain songs.
like Cruelty Squad benefits a lot from it's unforgiving difficulty, and just being able to ask it to be easy would... really undermine the story that's being told about the ways capitalism consumes your humanity and empathy.
And at the same time Wrath of the Righteous and Baldur's Gate benefit a lot from having a story mode where you can't die- their stories are told through dialogue and character interactions more than through gameplay.
Some games don't have the option of difficulty levels, like MMOs, and then they have to just select a difficulty level that is satisfying for a good number of players. One of the ways it does this is by retroactively making dungeons and trials easier through both power creep and fairly generous gear syncs.
And it's been interesting watching people complaining about the Dawntrail spike in difficulty when it... doesn't really exist? the Dawntrail dungeons are all less difficult than Tower of Zot was before everyone could out-stat every mechanic, and they're already being entirely out-geared and stat-checked as more and more players are level 100.
It already feels so weird to play through last expansion's content and see so many mechanics be completely skipped because damage is so much higher.
#kinda just ranting#it's just like#you're allowed to have certain preferences for difficulty#and that's fine#but that's like... a thing you find games that fit within#not a thing that every game has to conform to?#and like I don't think it's fair to say rhythm games should have to be slow because I have an RSI#and I don't think that action rpgs should be simple when a major point of enjoyment is interacting with a complicated system.

🐱 not because I think you're offputting or anything but because you are doing So Much All The Time and I'm always a little impressed and intimidated by people who can get their executives to function that consistently
This is so funny because, while I totally get what you mean, as someone who suffers from mad executive dysfunction at the best of times, I feel like I could be doing so much more and I only achieve the littlest amount at any given time. LMAO.
As long as I don't get side-tracked by life or like... something happens to disrupt a project I'm pretty solid, but if something happens it's all out the window. I do think that's a common thing, though; that you tend to look more put together than you feel, especially when I also utilise my queue and stuff so it always looks like I'm posting.
I'd like to get more of my personal work done but I think that's the biggest source of executive dysfunction, but that's like... a work on over time thing. I do try to keep my other projects going steady, so I'm glad it's appreciated! 😊
#。・゚゚・ — sea speaks#。・゚゚・ — sea answers things#like i am constantly in awe of people who can just like#post edit after edit of their ocs#or write fic after fic#my executive dysfunction is murderous when it comes to that stuff#even though i know my work isn't bad!#it's just like#'i want to do this'#my brain: haha! in two months.

I don't think it's fair to say that people only like WFA if they prefer the fanon, idealized versions of Batfam characters.
More rambling about comics and fandom under the cut, but the tldr version is that a) sometimes people want slice-of-life stuff for their favorite characters and b) if I have to put up with Dark and Gritty, unnaturally-prepared, child-slapping Batman, fans of that guy can put up with some light and fluffy manor hijinks like WFA.
Yes, there is an active and vocal portion of DC fandom that wants things from canon that will never happen. Partially that's because fandoms typically always want things from canon that would never happen. Teen Wolf and SPN fans want a coherent narrative that actually addresses the themes and character choices portrayed on the show. CA:TWS fans want to dig their claws into Steve and Bucky's relationship AND the US Military Industrial Complex in a way that the MCU never will. Stranger Things fans want some honest-to-God character development. And part of what I see in DC fandom is similar: what do fans of works where the characters are constantly emotionally and physically stressed want from their fanworks? Hurt/COMFORT and/or curtain!fic, in my experience.
And yes, partially that's because there seems to be a large portion of DC fandom that have not read a significant portion of the comics.* And/or watched the tv show(s). And/or watched the movie(s). And fanon builds on fanon until suddenly Tim Drake is crying because no one has ever hugged him, Cas/Steph/Duke are Sir Not Appearing in this Film, Jason is Gotham's #1 feminist, Dick is a golden retriever in human form, Damain is baby™, and Bruce would NEVER endanger his children by letting them go out and fight crime. But that happens in every fandom, to some extent.
I think it's perhaps more pronounced in DC because it's a comics fandom without any one unifying canon that most people are drawing from. For good or for ill, the Marvel fandom is typically able to circle the wagons around the MCU, with people incorporating various aspects of the 616 or Fraction's Hawkeye or whatever Spider-Man movie's come out most recently. DC doesn't have that. There's 80+ years of comics, including reboots that are supposed to make things less confusing (but YMMV on the effectiveness of that), and characterizations that change with the times; CW live-action TV shows; the Snyder-verse live-action movies; the NON-Snyder-verse live-action movies; the DCAU or Dini-verse/Timm-verse; the DC animated movies that are generally adaptations of comic storylines; the 2005 Teen Titans animated show; the 2010 Young Justice animated show; TITANS; The Batman (the animated show!); The Batman (R. Battinson!); Gotham; Smallville; Lois and Clark; etc, etc, etc.
I came to comics from the DCAU. I watched Smallville far past the point where any reasonable person would have quit. When I first watched 1978's Superman, I was confused that John Kent was dead, because he wasn't in the canons I was most familiar with. It's obviously not a 1:1 comparison, but I do think the question of "what do you want from canon" depends on what canon you're talking about.
And I don't mean to sound like I'm coming down on the side of people who are only familiar with fanon trying to argue they know the characters better than people who've actually consumed canon. But I do think DC being such a broad canon with no unifying property makes it a difficult discussion to have unless you start off by identifying the parameters.
ANYWAY, the point I've been dancing around is that there's enough canon that when someone says "MY Batman would never do that", they might be talking about their fanon or they might be talking about animated show #903 or the Tim Burton movies or whatever. Also, I had to put up with Nolan!Batman being the Batman du jour for like 10 years. It's WAFF WFA Batman's turn to be in the spotlight for a hot minute.
(Also, as greater minds than mine have pointed out, comics are, in general, a collective mythology of the modern era. And if you've ever tried to look up the One True Version of a myth, you'll know it's a frustrating exercise in futility)
*Of course, there's also a question of "what counts as a significant portion of the comics". Someone semi-recently ran a poll of "would you say you've read a lot of comics" and I was torn because I've read a lot, but in fits and spurts over the last 20 years, based on what was available at my local library or bookstore, and with nowhere near the focused attention that others have managed.
#tbh the thing I find most disconcerting about WFA is that I feel like I've read some of these comics as fics or tumblr posts before#and I don't like that#but anyway#wfa's not my favorite thing dc's ever done#but at least it's not more Court of Owls shit#meta#meta (batman)#meta (dc comics)#fandom#criticism of fandom#i guess#wayne family adventures#dc comics#dcu#dcau#smallville#one of the joys and pains of comics is that everyone has a different entry point#it's just like#how you came to the sherlock holmes fandom generally greatly affects how you interpret the character#waff = warm and fluffy feelings#btdubbs#i have so many things i should be doing instead of this#yuleshootureye.txt

you've heard of lemon getting character ideas from songs
now get ready for
lemon getting a character idea from two very specific parts of one song that somehow both drives them up a wall and scratches the itch in their brain just right
#the citrus speaks#this post is brought to you by UNDERWATER by Hylen#i think i like the project sekai cut more than the longer version#there's one part that like. actually does grate my brain bc it goes on for a while. but the shortened ver is fine#anyway#if you listen to the song the parts are:#0:42 - 1:07#and 2:01 to 2:27#idk what those times are in the pjsk cut but. ye.#but you wanna know what the Thing is#they need to be heard with the surrounding context of the original or the project sekai version for the vision to be seen#UNDERWATER is growing on me but one part in the original (the part between the two excerpts) genuinely just doesn't sit in my brain well#and it's WAYYYY longer in the og#but i think the effect still hits in the pjsk version#it doesn't really need the end part to get the full effect#it's just like#i think#the Vibe of the character is those two parts. the Backstory And Shit is the noise in between#the chaos beneath the waves they've plunged beneath#yfm#idk if this makes any sense im on a. funny lil ramble#speaking of#lemon's inane ramblings
