More Lore Dumping incoming

We all got the basics on this guy: Zelda? Bad. Ganondorf? Took him in yeah but bad. Link? 🤏 Lil fucked up because of them both and he cant talk, ugh awful, tragic

Now this is where it gets interesting. His whole plot comes from him going along with whatever is done to him, secretly becoming that wanted criminal while he hides as a hyrulian guard. So what happens to help escape this?

Well, Zelda is noticing that this new masked crook is silent. Almost like that kid she cursed into being. Who Ganondorf convinced her a while back to let him train and take in as one of the castle knights. So she summons Link and keeps him close to watch him.

Shenanigans happen where Ganondorf meant to send another different masked man to attack while Link is in uniform to protect Zelda and therefore the mask crook cant be Link, see?? Instead the timing of the hit is so wildly wrong and Link ends up protecting someone else instead 👀

Enter Shad. The guy who is single-handedly going to be the moral compass for our poor lil guy. Shad just walks around awe struck after being saved by this knight, and he then starts seeing Link being placed and thrown all over the castle in different positions.

Shad makes sure to always pass by to say hi, and Link finds it so enduring, but has no idea how to handle his emotions and ends up being our bashful boy.

Eventually they hit it off and Shad finds out about the whole "wearing a mask and sent out to kill people" thing and takes it really rough, but sticks by to get Link out of his situation. Absolute bro move 🤝

Considering you only gain muscles by working out, and to work out, you need to lift heavy things, technically, Clark couldn't be muscular since he's way too strong to actually be able to train his muscles. Which means: Clark chubby farm boy is actually a possible and viable thing.

SO, fun fact! This is totally true, and in fact addressed often in comics.

It's usually agreed upon in canon that Clark didn't develop his powers right away, with his capacity for absorbing and utilizing solar energy gradually expanding, around the same time as the onset of puberty, probably around age 14. So though his powers' growths were rapid once they manifested, he did have some time to adjust until they reached their maximum. And it was during this time he was helping out on the farm, using that as a kind of informal training (lifting hay bales for strength, which progressed to lifting cattle to lifting tractors, etc.; practicing control and finesse with say, chickens and caring for livestock with super speed).

Remember, Clark is supposed to be potential for the high school football team in Smallville, and that immediately makes me think stocky and sturdy, not cut and visibly muscular. At the point where he's at the full strength he'll know as Superman, he's got pretty much no upper limit, and generally nothing that's going to help him train his muscles. So definitely, early career Superman is going to be more mass than muscle.

However, once he gets full access to the Fortress of Solitude and the support of the Justice League, he can get some assistance - Wonder Woman has incredible, divinely empowered strength, and as a warrior trains often - she helps instruct him in martial arts and can help him train at full strength. Meanwhile, Batman can help him train in environments built to limit his power, like red sun training rooms and such.

Considering his physiology is more dependent upon solar energy than anything else to build his strength and keep him healthy, I'd say solar energy keeps him from atrophying. But considering if he's got energy akin to photosynthesis from the sun, I'd suggest he never really gets much of a lean musculature and remains bulky and sturdy.

Above is Christopher Reeve both training and in costume as Superman - his muscles are well-formed, but his torso isn't like, eight pack abs and dehydrated - he's clearly building muscle mass and body fat in a healthy way, and it shows in his costume. He looks sturdy, and strong.

Above is golden age Superman next to a bodybuilder/powerlifter, which I think Superman's original design is supposed to evoke. He's not popping muscles through his suit, but he's clearly really fricking fit and strong. Even his waist is more close to the width of his chest than more narrow like you see in more contemporary illustrations.

My thought is that Clark's physique is a lot more like someone at the Highland Games. Built for strength and sturdiness. He doesn't have to keep lean because he's not worried about endurance and agility because he already has that from his powers. Big arms, broad chest, likely a little bit of a tummy. And if he's under layers like Clark usually dresses, he can easily be mistaken for pudgy instead of powerful.

In any case, that's my untrained viewpoint on the subject. Basically my sweet polite farmboy is basically a photosynthesizing plant with muscles. Wait, is that why Poison Ivy's pheromones can work on him???

2. bark

“Sarani, you must take more care with the bark. If it is too thick, it will not steep properly into tea.”

Twenty year old Marzanna Kimbatuul heaved a sigh, trying to blow an errant curl out of her face as she slowly scraped her knife over the trunk of an Othardian plum tree. “Mama, it’s Marz now, you know that. I’m not a baby anymore.”

“So you say, and so the clan recognizes, but so too shall you always be my Sarani, my moonlight, no matter where you go or what strange, foreign names you take for yourself.” There was a gentle note of teasing in her voice, at Marz’s whim of taking the name of a Hrothgar trader’s lost daughter as her adult name, but it was mostly just warm and fond. Embarrassing, really, but Marz grinned as she shimmied down the tree, her pouch full of perfectly adequately thin plum bark.

“Okay, okay, fine. Just try not to do it where other people can hear, alright? It’s hard enough as it is to get some of the others to take me seriously.” To certain other members of the tribe, she’d always be little Sarani Kimbatuul, whose best friend was a fish, no matter how many Imperials she drowned in Nagxia’s waters.

The older woman, her scales beginning to encroach on the laugh lines beside her eyes, folded her arms and regarded her only daughter with expectation. “Very well then, Marzanna, tell me three uses for that bark.”

“Trick question, mama. There’s only two. To strengthen the lungs when breath grows short, and to treat scale rot.” Marz tossed her mother the pouch, who caught it deftly, tucking it into her belt alongside all manner of other herbs and things.

“Wrong. It’s also delightful with a bit of honey.”

Marz rolled her eyes with a laugh as her mother opened a small, dog-eared journal, filled with sketches of various plants and descriptions of their uses, written in tidy Doman script. Not all the xaela of their clan were literate, but Teratai Kimbatuul was alchemist, midwife, and healer to a tribe that only birthed a magic user once a generation, her herb journal and the knowledge it contained one of the clan’s greatest treasures.

Someday it would be Marz’s, even if she felt her hands were better suited to spear and bow, and she only hoped she would be worthy of it when the time came.

amira!!!!!! i spoke a lot more on my tags in this post, but my personal headcanon is that he always takes in those pokémon that have really tragic backstories. given that, i think he has a lot of dark-types and ghost-types, but branches out into electric (boltund) as well.

wouldn't be surprised if he had some ground types like a torterra that he raised from a little turtwig, when he discovered its injuries while trying to cross a road.

he has a mimikyu as well on his team that he's constantly stitching back together at the end of every day.

i think he's also got a cubone too; when it's a baby he carries it around in a papoose sling so it imprints on him <3

The main reason the main Motley comic has gone on hiatus is just so I can build a better backlog of chapters, and I'm already feeling much more secure about it overall lol. It's weird to be working on it the same amount I was before but never posting about it!!! Maybe I'll start posting the chapters as I finish them to Patreon lol.

Im glad the askblog is helping fill the gap between now and the next chapter. Working on both of them has been so fun, aaa I love my ocs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
