I'm trying to make sense of the whole "Castti and Trousseau accidentally ended up in Lostseed and nothing happened (besides Trousseau going completely insane)" thing for a fic and... I think I've actually found a possible answer.
It bothered me so much that afaik it's never elaborated on how they got there. Like, it's not exactly a place you can just "stumble into" by chance. I don't remember if there's another way to Lostseed, but even if the game doesn't let you access it, there has to be a way outside of New Delsta, because like... why would you look for herbs in the sewers, lol. That path would have to be pretty well hidden though. So I was thinking, what if someone led them there? Not the whole way of course, but what if someone deliberately pushed them in a direction that would lead them to Lostseed?
It makes sense that there'd be a "guard" of sorts, since Claude is quite the social guy, but if you let too many or the wrong people visit, they might cause major trouble. So Claude and/or the moonshade order probably has people for exactly this situation, to control who gets to visit Lostseed. I see two groups suited for this job.
The first option is that it was a moonshade follower. (I know we're on the Eastern continent here, but since they're perfectly aware of who Mindt is, it doesn't seem that far off to assume some of them are active around there too.) Since it was Claude's objective to make Trousseau and Castti join the moonshade order for all I know, it seems likely that it was a mission for its people.
But there's the less likely but far more interesting possibility that it was a blacksnake. They have control over the entry in the sewers after all, and they're supposed to find their way to Lostseed at one point; it makes perfect sense that Claude would use them as navigators, both to lead people to him, and to see if they figure out their own way there.
You see where I'm going with this.
Imagine Throné losing her mind for the first few days after meeting Castti because she's sure they've met before (and Castti's amnesia doesn't help it at all). She eventually brushes it off and essentially forgets about it, until they get to Lostseed/find Ori's journal and connect the dots and fuck, it all makes sense now. Not in the best way, though.
Alternatively, if Pirro pretended to be a regular citizen out to look for mushrooms or something... I feel like him and Trousseau would have gotten along quite well. Their personalities might be a good match. All aside from how they've both had rather simple, good-faith things they wanted in life that were corrupted by their circumstances (and Claude).

OT 1 & 2 headcanons? Doesn't have to be about the main parties, whatever goes.
ok ok here we go, gonna use yours as the OT2 HC ask bestie
gonna throw up here an OT2 spoilers warning cuz of endgame stuff
First some throné ones because i have throné on the brain.
first off i think after her story is over she never wears a necklace like basically ever again. she does love dressing up, feeling cute, but no matter how well a necklace would go with her outfit she won’t add one. it’s just part of her newfound freedom that she can choose never to have anything around her neck like that ever again. all other jewelry tho… she’s got a lot of options to pick from for earrings, bracelets, and rings etc (that she’s most certainly not paid for)
also, i feel like Hikari and Throné, after everything with vide coming to the conclusion that they are actually distantly related to each other, have some kind of exchange where it’s like. “ok wait so im your like great great how many greats aunt or something” uhhh like a couple times removed or whatever. and at first its like weird to think about but they both have such like. idk. throne found out that her family was actually huge and extensive, and all of them were killing each other. her biological father is a monster. she was born to be a monster herself. her relationship with the concept of “family” is extremely strange; the man she considered closest to her actual father was a horribly abusive person but despite all that she was the closest thing he had, and he was her half-brother. Hikari’s family has a curse upon it directly related to being descended from D’arquest, and it’s been nothing but pain for him as well, causing him to lose control of himself, constantly worried he’ll hurt the people he cares about. his brother was a monster in a whole different way, and his dad, while appointing him rightful successor, spent most of his life as a warmonger as well. His mother is dead. his brother and father are dead. he’s lost ritsu, who at one point was like a brother to him. his own relationship with the idea of his family is not… good, in any case. i think they come to find some sort of solace in each other in that, after realizing they’re actually related. they’ve already come to travel with each other and trust each other… i like to think they decide they should just hand wave all the technicalities of how distantly they’re related and how weird the family tree would look and just go with a catch all “we’re cousins” or something.
Castti, while getting her memories back about what happened immediately prior to the events of the game, still struggles with remembering most of her life. it’s not something she really fully recovers from. she never remembers the faces of her parents, or if she had any siblings, her childhood, things like that. sometimes when she gets a flash of something, a glimmer of a skill she had no idea she was well-practiced in, or a remembered fact she can’t recall where she read it, she still finds herself troubled. she basically has to re-invent herself. still, she gets by with a quiet determination to always do right, with the knowledge that she at the very least, knows who she is now, in the present.
ok sillay ones….
Post game partitio starts picking up the guitar. i like to think once he gets good enough he records a song with agnea for the gramophone :P. also, temenos used to play the piano, but he’s out of practice (that one cleric in flamechurch is much better and actually wants to play it much more). he could pick it up again tho with a little practice
oh also ochette is a chronic unpeeled fruit mucher. she’ll just straight up bite into an orange and be like. “i see why some people don’t like the crust but i don’t mind it.” castti and osvald tails gets trolled face

How ot2 characters react to boat trips? Who is sick, and who is moving around all time?
This ended up being really super ridiculously long (it got longer with each character as I started getting more into it I didn't mean for this to be so long) so I'm going to put this under read-more. :) Thank you for the ask!! This was super fun!! :D
Ochette — I feel like she's both somehow. She'll get really seasick but is so excited about where they're going that she'll be running around all over the place and climbing things. Serious FOMO and wants to be involved but may end up projectile vomiting everywhere at the same time. Castti is not happy with her.
Castti — she doesn't get seasick, and mostly ends up moving around the ship trying to take care of those who do. A great deal of her time is spent chasing after Ochette trying to get her to calm the fuck down, followed by making sure everyone else is okay, and THEN she gets some time to herself. She's usually exhausted and really fucking annoyed by the end of every boat trip.
Throne — also doesn't get sick, mostly keeps to herself and avoids the chaos whenever possible. She mostly stays with Temenos to "make sure he's okay" (in actuality they've both just locked themselves up somewhere to be introverted while at the same time keeping each other company).
Osvald — he doesn't usually get seasick, and it's a 50/50 chance you'll see him around or he'll be cooped up somewhere for the entire boat trip. It depends almost entirely on whether he's interested in the physics of the ocean or the boat moving or if he just wants to compute his unrelated stuff on his own, but everyone mostly just leaves him alone.
Partitio — why would the guy who bought the boat be seasick? Actually I feel like he DID have the occasional bout of seasickness the first few times on a boat, but when he gets more used to it he rarely ever has a problem. Most of the time he's super interested in what's going on and so moves around a LOT on the boat asking questions and making conversation — he wants to know EVERYTHING about how the boat works. But he does get it when his party members are feeling unwell (he's been there and all) and always wants to try to do something to help, though unfortunately he more often than not ends up annoying someone who just wants to be left alone or getting in Castti's way when he goes to see if she needs help.
Agnea — she doesn't get seasick necessarily, but she also keeps forgetting the boat is moving especially on long trips. I feel like she would try to practice her dancing frequently and occasionally she'll fall and hurt herself because the boat moved suddenly and she slid halfway across the deck. As a result of this she's also one that Castti has to watch (Agnea has broken something or hit her head at least once before and Castti wants to make sure that doesn't happen again).
Temenos — everyone thinks out of everyone, he'd definitely get seasick, and that's what he tells them when he goes and coops himself up in a cabin all day, every day. Actually he's perfectly fine and is just abusing people's assumptions about him in order to avoid the chaos — Throne is the only other party member who knows he's fine and usually the only one whose company he'll tolerate on a boat, so she gets to be his designated "caretaker"… you know, so Castti doesn't have to do as much work. It's kind of a mix between a longstanding prank that amuses them both and a means of avoiding having to deal with stuff, because if Castti knew he was fine then he'd DEFINITELY be put on "secondary healer" duty for those who are not fine.
Hikari — oh he gets seasick. He gets REALLY seasick. He's the only one who is legitimately stuck immobilised for the entire boat trip, and even in the few moments when he doesn't feel like moving is going to make him throw up he ends up too shaky to get from one place to another (and then of course the boat moves and sends him back to square 1). He won't eat anything and Castti worries about keeping him hydrated. If you, the reader, ship him with another party member, whoever that party member is will try to check on him as much as they can and he really appreciates it, but generally can't express as much until after the trip is over.
Crick (dude is my blorbo he gets to be an honourary party member because I said so) — he doesn't get seasick necessarily, but often ends up feeling sick on boat trips for unrelated reasons, either because he's so nervous about the quest or because he's so worried about the people who DO get sick. Temenos finds boat trips with him a little irritating at times because he can HEAR him pacing right outside the door of whatever room he happens to be in because he's so worried about him. Crick has been the reason Temenos' little facade has almost failed numerous times, either because Temenos is so fed up and just wants him to leave him alone or because Crick actually has a history of just walking into people's rooms if the door isn't locked because his anxiety brain took over and he needed to make sure someone wasn't dead. Crick is actually surprisingly helpful when Castti puts him to work though and is perfectly capable of following instructions when they are given to him, and has stayed with Hikari for a while a few times when the other warrior is having an exceptionally difficult time. His presence is overall pretty welcomed when he joins the group on boat trips, Temenos just wishes he would STOP annoying him sometimes.

a very long post about opinions on the OT2 character themes
> disclaimer: these are the ramblings of someone who has not formally studied music or music theory and is just going off of the vibes that they got from listening to the character themes over and over. so uh please take these opinions like the opinions that they were meant to be
> also MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD, PLEASE READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
OCHETTE
Ochette, the Hunter
- I love this theme. The first time I heard the samples on the Octopath website I fell in love instantly and was convinced that Ochette was going to be my starter just because of how EPIC it sounded. When the full version came out, my feelings on it being epic did not change one bit because it captures the spirit of going on a grand mission SO WELL, and the theme itself feels like it represents Toto'haha as a whole more than just Ochette, reminding us every time of the gravity of their situation. Of course I have maybe too many problems with her actual story but damn if it doesn't do a great job at being cinematic. You can just tell the dev team had so much fun making scenes with the scale of the Legendary Beasts in mind
- also I'm not the only one who hears a slight choir in the background right.
In Pursuit of Legends
- easily one of the best pre-battle themes in the game - the high wind instruments just send chills down my spine no matter what situation Ochette is put in, and when we hear it for the last time in Ochette 3 - oh BOY does it feel incredible. Speaking of Ochette 3
The Journey for Legends Ends
- Out of all the Journey Ends remixes Ochette's version of it is undoubtedly one of my favorites - easily cracks the top 3. In my first run of OT2, I saved Ochette 3 for last, and having it be against the fight against the Darkling?? The high wind instrument sounded like WAILING and I can't get over how fitting that is given everything that the Darkling had gone through until this moment. The whole island is at stake but our attention is all on the Darkling's suffering and honestly? That whole sequence made me forget about the problems I had with Ochette's story and got me to cry a bit because holy shit
CASTTI
Castti, the Apothecary
- I don't have too many strong feelings about Castti's theme, but I dearly appreciate how subdued and somber it sounds. It fits Castti's journey of finding her memories so well and I just generally have no complaints.
- HER LEITMOTIF HOWEVER - the theme used in every flashback sequence incorporates it so well that I cry every goddamn time that it's used. THIS IS THE THEME THAT HER CHAPTER 3 ENDED WITH. IT'S SO SAD AND LOST THAT IT JUST AKSJAKS WHAT DID NISHIKI INJECT INTO THIS THEME???
In Pursuit of Memories
- I love For Succor from the first game. Easily one of the most cinematic-sounding pre-battle themes. In Pursuit of Memories takes everything that made For Succor amazing and TURNS IT UP TO 11 AND WOW THOSE TRUMPETS ARE SENDING CHILLS UP MY SPINE. Castti's leitmotif messes up my brain a lot it's great
The Journey for Memories Ends
- As much as I wanted Castti's rendition of this song to crack the top 3 my god the renditions that DID just made me feel way more BUT HECK IF THIS DIDN'T MAKE ME FEEL A LOT OF THINGS
- Having her theme be up against Trousseau feels incredibly triumphant. Like she's being backed up by Eir's Apothecaries as she fights like Jesus they went SO HARD
THRONE
Throne, the Thief
- I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this but. I especially don't have strong feelings about Throne's theme. I like it enough, I'm a sucker for strings and I think it suits her well, but I feel like it blends too much into the rest of the soundtrack. It could be the instrument choice, it could be the chords? I promise I like the strings. I also love how it played in her ending. I feel nothing but happiness for Throne when I see her endcard I love it so much
In Pursuit of Freedom
- To be completely honest I have to strain my ears to actually hear Throne's motif in the pre-battle theme but I don't have a lot to say about it - definitely blends in too much with the violins.
The Journey for Freedom Ends
- OKAY THE LOW ELECTRIC GUITAR RIFFS IN THE BEGINNING OF THE RENDITION? GOD-TIER - FOR SOME REASON I ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE AND THEY'RE REALLY GOOD BUILDUP
- As for the rest of it it's fine I guess? Like I like hearing it and battling with it but I think the first time around I was way too confused with the bombshells that Claude dropped on us for me to properly appreciate the music
OSVALD
Osvald, the Scholar
- At first I thought this was a pretty generic somber theme that REALLY loves its cellos, but in my second playthrough I grew to appreciate it a lot more. Without changing a single note, Osvald's theme goes from somber to triumphant over the course of his story and it's kind of insane to me?? Like it fits way too well with the bittersweet ending that he has but has so much room for hope and somehow his character theme captures that so well??? Gods bless you Osvald
In Pursuit of Revenge
- Gotta say - I don't have a lot of feelings on this either. Other than to say that it's badass and imposing as all hell
The Journey for Revenge Ends
- OKAY I HONESTLY DID NOT THINK THAT THIS THEME COULD EVER FIT A FUCKING. DRAGON BALL KAMEHAMEHADOUKEN DUEL BETWEEN HIM AND HARVEY BUT THE ELECTRIC GUITAR MELODY PROVED ME SO WRONG. THIS THEME GOT ME REALLY HYPED UP
- Honestly the fact that I was maybe rooting for Osvald too hard to just kick Harvey's ass because he hurt Elena probably helped BUT STILL AWESOME THEME
PARTITIO
Partitio, the Merchant
- God. The moment I heard the electric guitars I was already sold but then the SAX kicked in and it's like 'YO ALRIGHT WE'RE BALLING'
- this post really started out with me describing actual feelings. Don't worry we're still going to talk about feelings but I don't have much to say about Partitio's theme other than it's awesomea and that people should play it in bars
In Pursuit of Happiness
- man this game is really giving me a great appreciation of the power of electric guitars. I see the appeal now. I especially see it in Partitio's leitmotif cuz man it really makes me want to end poverty. Unfortunately I don't have Partitio's business acumen OR his exuberance so I like. The most I can actually do is look into charity and volunteer work but this theme reminds me that that's good effort too
The Journey for Happiness Ends
- Gotta say? I don't have a lot of strong feelings about this rendition. Like I love Partitio and his story's ending to BITS but I think the fact that we're fighting a whole-ass steam-powered war train had the more staying power for me in this fight. Not that his theme was bad by any means because MAN that electric guitar solo goes bonkers
AGNEA
Agnea, the Dancer
- HANDS-DOWN MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE 8PATH2 CHARACTER THEMES - IT JUST SOUNDS AMAZING NO MATTER WHAT CONTEXT YOU PUT IT IN. I also love that it just ends up existing in-universe as full on diagetic noise for Agnea's encore at the end of her story? HELL I ALREADY SAID I'M A SUCKER FOR STRINGS BUT AGNEA'S THEME JUST SOUNDS SO HOMEY AND WHIMSICAL AND IT ACTUALLY MAKES ME REALLY WANT TO DANCE. AND I SUCK AT DANCING!
- Gil's piano version also just flat-out brings me to tears. God bless you Agnea motif. Why is it so good at being emotional. The evolution of this song throughout Agnea's journey just hits me on so many levels. Music and dance as a form of human expression and communication is fully on display with Agnea's story and her theme reflects that perfectly
In Pursuit of Hope
- how do I gush over Agnea's leitmotif even more without just repeating myself. it's just so good. it's so hype even if the situations themselves are relatively low-stakes. like she's just having a really intense talk with the manager of the theater and the battle theme goes HARDER THAN IT SHOULD
Song of Hope
- HONESTLY WHAT CAN I EVEN SAY ABOUT SONG OF HOPE THAT HASN'T ALREADY BEEN SAID. SONG OF HOPE BEING THE FINAL FORM OF AGNEA'S THEME LIKE IT'S A SUPER SAIYAN HAVING THEIR POWER LEVELS GO OVER 9000. THE FACT THAT IN-UNIVERSE IT'S ACTUALLY HER SINGING IT. THE FACT THAT THIS IS THE SONG THAT BEATS DOLCINAEA LUCIEL. THE FACT THAT THEY'RE BOTH SINGING IT ACTUALLY IT'S SO GOOD
- man I wish sometimes that whenever Agnea uses her EX Song of Hope we got like. a little jingle of her theme and her singing the lyrics. I love Song of Hope so much it's my second-favorite Journey Ends theme. Yes I know it technically doesn't qualify but come onnnn
TEMENOS
Temenos, the Cleric
- okay now I'm REALLY going to get flack for this. I actually don't like Temenos's theme. There's specific reasons for this and most of them have to do with his story. It was already one of the character themes that I felt relatively neutral on when I first heard it, and my first impression was that 'mmmm okay. what's throne's theme sound like-'. The demo came out and gave us Chapter 1, and suddenly it makes sense why it sounds so funky - it represents his character from Chapter 1 so well! It tells us a lot about Temenos - that he's lackadaisical, full of doubt, and that there's more to him than meets the eye. It's true to his character as a detective who likes to mess with his assistant sometimes
- But then Stormhail happened, and it's like. The whimsical tones of his theme really didn't suit the tone of the rest of his story OR his character going forward. Crick's death has dramatically changed the feel of his story, and from that moment on it's pretty clear that Temenos is out for revenge more than he is out for truth - but his theme doesn't reflect that. In fact it feels like it's acting in defiance of the tone shift, feeling almost dismissive of the emotional plot points of his story. On a meta level I think it's interesting how it reflects Temenos's state of mind, sticking to his pursuit in order to avenge everybody he lost and keeping his emotions bottled up. Emotionally however it feels incredibly dissonant - especially when it plays over his endcard.
In Pursuit of Truth
- Honestly for how much flack I gave his character theme I have to give it to his leitmotif for being incorporated in incredibly interesting ways for his battle themes. I did NOT think that the Celestas?? Glockenspiels??? Whatever those brass instruments were - they were INTENSE
The Journey for Truth Ends
- Same words that I have for In Pursuit of Truth like oh my god I didn't think they could make his funky-sounding leitmotif sound so badass but they DID and it felt immensely satisfying to kick Kaldena's ass as the music played. Savor that satisfaction because my god the rest of his story arc does not have a lot of that
HIKARI
Hikari, the Warrior
- I'm partial to Eastern instruments and chord progression! Hikari's theme sounds incredibly regal and it tells us a lot about his character - he's noble, kind, and a great leader. It's a theme that's fit for a king and honestly what more can you ask for?
- also when the bridge plays with the peaceful tones of high wind instruments my heart is just. It is at ease. All is right in the world. tHEN IT'S BACK TO THE INTENSE PARTS WAHOO
In Pursuit of Kingship
- OKAY BEFORE THE GAME CAME OUT I WAS ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO LISTENED TO THE LEAKED SOUNDTRACK OVER AND OVER BECAUSE OH MY GOD HIKARI'S LEITMOTIF GOES SO HARD - I literally SCREAMED when I first heard the leaked version and honestly through the choppy audio and the chunky part of the video - you all know the one - this theme was the one that convinced me that Octopath Traveler 2 was going to be something special. I screamed out loud to several people I knew that this? Seamless transition into Critical Clash II?? It sounded like Latin Honors.
The Journey for Kingship Ends
- So, picture me on my first run, intending to finish the second game this time in reverse OCTOPATH order, meaning I started with Hikari's final chapters. Sure I switched Temenos and Throne around for the order but that was fine, I'm in Ku, and we're about to finally kick Mugen's ass because I fucking hate Mugen. The chapter begins with Kazan literally summoning a sandstorm to open the gates of Ku. I am already so hyped. Then Clan Mei arrives. I am even more hyped. THEN WE FINALLY GET TO KICK RITSU'S ASS, AND HEY OCTOPATH 2, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS A BOSS RUSH??? I get to Mugen. I beat his first phase. I fight Hikari's intrusive thoughts and win. Mugen does some eldritch shit. AND THEN THIS FUCKING THEME KICKS IN AND I WAS JUST THROWN BACKWARDS INTO MY SEAT
- IN MY OPINION THIS IS THE BEST RENDITION OF THE JOURNEY ENDS REMIXES - THE MUSICAL PROGRESSION FROM THE FIGHT AGAINST RITSU, THEN A TASTE OF FOR THE DAWN WITH MUGEN'S FIRST PHASE, THEN CONQUERING THE SHADOW, AND THEN THIS - IT WAS SO GOOD?? AND IT SOUNDS SO TRIUMPHANT LIKE - HIKARI IS ON THE CUSP OF VICTORY AND PEACE IS AT HIS FINGERTIPS. KU WILL FINALLY SEE THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY. THAT IS WHAT THIS SOUNDS LIKE AND IT'S THE MOST AMAZING THING AND I LOVE IT
so yeah i'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on the character themes. feel free to disagree with my opinions! I welcome it!

Octopath: Hardcore/ Enrichment Challenge.
After beating the first game twice (Except Galdera) I wanted to make my next playthrough a bit more challenging, so I made this rule set for both games! I don't know if anyone has done something similar this before but this is my take to make Octopath more challenging to the casual gamer. You can pick and chose these rules as much as you like!
NO mini map: This is something I do in my purely casual too. I find it more fun and immersive to look around yourself or relay on memory.
NO fast travel: This makes you strategize where to move next and your order of operations. Also the docks in OT2 cost money and this is hardly a feature once you cross the ocean once.
You must buy things from the shops OR steal off of people. If you chose the shops you are NOT ALLOWED to Steal, Mug, or Beg for anything unless it's impossible to progress otherwise (i.e Story segments, stubborn side quest, Guild quest, etc.). You are allowed to use the Purchase ability and MUST use it for side quest items whenever applicable. Someone in the party refuses to steal unless absolutely nessecary.
If you chose to steal you are NOT ALLOWED to buy or sell at ANY SHOPS. They have banned you; you're a thief. You also cannot use the purchase ability (Not that you were using it in the first place). I found items and money really easy to come buy because you could just steal everything not nailed down, sell it, and buy supplies in bulk. I wanted to make money/items scarce and something you would have to manage.
You can start out with any character you want but you MUST get the rest in OCTOPATH ORDER (Example: If you start off as Olberic you must get Primrose next, then Therion, etc. If you start as Temenos you must get Hikari, then Ochette, etc.) You cannot swap out the Os and Ts with each other. Octopath 1 order is clockwise, Octopath 2 order goes as follows, Ochette, Castti, Throne, Osvald, Partitio, Agnea, Temenos, Hikari.
Hey wasn't there a rule about octopath bosses here? There was! But then I tried it out and it was hell! Turns out Octo 1 scales on party members you've picked up, not in party. Crazy right? Anyway there is no special rule for o1 no matter how badly I want one
For Octopath 2, you can only AND MUST change the night/day manually when you spent a night at the inn. This includes story cutscenes UNLESS ABSOLUTLY IMPOSSIBLE (i.e you can't leave the aria.) This is one of the first rules I thought up. This is a challenge based on immersion and having to use the inn so often puts a pinch on your purse. or you could wait for the game to naturally change time.
That's it! The goal is to make it as far as you can/want to! For me that's everything except Galdera. As I said earlier, feel free to pick and chose the rules you want to use for your own challenge runs. If you do this challenge @ me! I wanna see people trying this!
I'mma do a run of OCTO 1 and might live blog about anything I deem noteworthy.

out of curiosity, what does your ot2 endgame team setup look like? 😊
SO!!!! i'm not quite to vide again yet (took a break for the day after doing 2/4 of the shrine things) but here's my plan:
team1: -agnea (scholar, decked out in high magic gear) -temenos (also scholar for magic barrage easy break with his latent power. might change him to apothecary if needed) -ochette (merchant, intent is to use high bp hired help and monsters) -throne (conjuror to help with extra breaking opportunities and to allow the mages to do high damage with a single staff whack or in agnea's case dagger dance)
team2: -castti (warrior. she's decked out in the best gear i have. 8k hp. decently high phys & mag attack) -hikari (undecided rn but will probably go with armsmaster) -osvald (cleric. he has that item that lets him do 2 hits with all his aoe spells and heals) -partitio (undecided but will probably go with inventor)
i also have 1mill leaves saved up for hired help opportunities, and good followers for the 4 that have followers. (shout out to Young Man from tropuhapu)
if i fail the first attempt i might switch around the parties & jobs a bit as well. everyone is around level 60 so i'm also hoping that's high enough...
for grinding i stole borrowed the brooch of joy from melia (i felt bad about this) but man it helped a ton with grinding lol

This may be too hard a question… but if you had to rank the ot2 travelers from favorite to least favorite, what would your order be? 🤔
NOOOOOOOOOOO APPIE HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME I LOVE THEM ALL EQUALLY ;CCCCC
UM
Okay this does not represent all of my feelings towards the characters nor does them being lower on the list mean I hate them, but if I really did have to put them all into a list it would look like this
Castti
Hikari
Agnea
Partitio
Osvald
Ochette
Temenos
Throne
I have no problems with Throne herself but as I said before I'm just not a fan of her story, I gotta admit she's definitely grown on me since I started the game and I love her a lot but her story brings a sour taste to my mouth
Also let it be known that I Have Not Finished The Game Yet So This List Is Subject To Change

grading character stories after finishing them all.........My favorites ended up being Temenos, Hikari, Throne, and Castti. Least favorites Ochette and Osvald.
Osvald - C+. Revenge is a good motive and the story starts out fairly strong with the prison escape, but Osvald is probably my second least favorite character. He is so incredibly dry and while it's clear he was meant to come across that way, it doesn't make that fun. (He tends to come off a little better in fanfic.)
Castti - A-. Fun tragic story, though I think the eventual antagonist could have been written better; he kind of leans too much towards 'generic sadistic madman' for someone who's motivated to eliminate suffering, and I wish there was more a sense that he and Castti really knew each other as more than just 'work colleagues', considering they traveled together.
Temenos - A-. Strong start, strong chapter 3 even if I will AU that to hell and back lol, kind of sagged in the actual finale for me .
Ochette - F. started bad. Stayed bad to the end. The legendary creatures her quest revolves around end up feeling incredibly overhyped and the whole "humans bad" comes off really stupid in a party that's 7/8 human. Not to mention some of the moralizing just didn't make sense. Leghold really is a nice ability but it's otherwise tempting to just leave her on the island and play the game as Septapath.
Partitio - ...I could criticize all the corniness and also how legality and the enforcement of contracts seems readily toggled on and off and yet, I do like Alrond. The department store bit was a nice change of pace. B?
Agnea - since I had to do a final sequence twice because the GAME CRASHED, I'm glad it was hers. Agnea's story is kind of odd tonally from the rest of the travelers. IIRC one chapter didn't even have any fighting? It makes for a nice change and at the same time leaves me completely baffled that she's traveling with everyone else. Probably another B.
Throne - ....I think I gotta give her story an A just for how messed up it was lol
Hikari - A. "wasn't his first chapter your second least favorite" yes it was and yet the second chapter immediately starts redeeming it. Also my issue with the first chapter was Mugen coming off cartoonishly evil and in the end it turns out there is a kind of fair reason he's like that so hey.
Would I buy Octopath III? It very much depends. I don't regret buying Octopath II, I have in fact started another playthrough that starts with Castti. At the same time there are definitely weaknesses that along with what I've heard about Octopath I make me confident I was correct in NOT buying the first game, it would not have been my cup of tea, and while OT2 improved on the character interaction and such that's still weak enough that I don't think I'd buy OT3 unless a demo character really grabbed me like Temenos did. Like I feel OT's set up is fun as an experiment but ultimately does not do the story of the overall game any favors, and it's not really possible to change that and make it make sense to call it "Octopath".

octopath traveler 2 again
Partitio ch1. I get what the writers are going for with the evil landowner but if no one has a job he isnt making money either. Like that guys profit is from the labor of the townsfolk. something more logical would be if he trapped them all in long term indentured servitude work contracts. Or as roque said the silver devalued and the mine dried up but this is octopath so we gotta beat someone up for the ch 1 boss. If roque brilliant is so rich and famous how does no one know his name. Writers needed a plot reason for partitio to leave town. This is kinda contrived why lead on papp into buying to land then change the contract rebuy the land and drive the town into the ground. "This town's done for" yeah because you did it in. Buy low sell high he bought high and then ruined his own property value. This is alfyn all over again where i love the character but the story sucks. I actually liked the other ch1s. Ok kicking the bully down is great and all also who hoards all the "taxes" instead of investing it. Also we didnt fix the root problems which are the devaluation if silver and that this is a boom bust mining town the real solution is to diversify the economy. It's not partitio's merchant skills that saved the town we just brat people up.
OT2 is easier than 1 which is a shame since i thought 1 had good balance. They added a bunch of skills in 2 but didn't rebalance things so now it's too easy. I miss the challenge but I wouldn't especially consider it s problem.
Throne ch2: Octopath 1 had this problem where storylines where smashed into same towns so one half is a crime syndicate and the other half a bunch of theater fans. So Orerush has 2 wealthy powerful factions but they seem to exist in separate universes with no interaction. Although ot2 is so far better. Making a bunch of special poison slave collars seems expensive. Huh no combat they're shaking up the formula
Hikari ch1. The dessert city is japanese instead of vaguely fusion middle eastern and indian, that's a new one. Hinoeuma follows a different naming pattern from the usual nature-noun + lands like leaflands or riverlands. Ok a lot of things just happened in the intro hikari's a prince and is hearing voices?? And half brother to mugen. Warring states japan but also like some chinese maybe middle eastern aesthetics thrown in i mean japan throughout it's history was heavily influenced by chinese culture. Ritsu's gonna die. Yup looking at the castle town chinese. Has the emperor's political position grown so weak that he acnt publicly declare hikari as the successor? Standard plot but then also demon possession i like this chapter. Cant really rule over destroyed city, mugens an idiot. "Restore light [hikari] to our kingdom". Huh mugens not even going to try to kill hikari now.
Detoured to pick up merchant. Beat up and robbed a dude of his cherish memento and now i feel bad well no going back.
Castti: classic amnesia mystery. Girl out here being sherlock.

Hi! It's a bit niche, but I'm here looking for someone to Roleplay Octopath Traveler 1 OR 2 I'm 19, Looking for someone to roleplay as a few of the canon travelers from either of the games, as this would take place either after their main stories, or at some nebulous point in their standard adventure! It would mostly be focused on slice of life, Interactions/ships between characters, though that doesn't mean more serious theme's can't be brought up in it As for characters I can play as: OT1: Therion, Alfyn, Tressa, H'annit, Ophilia OT2: Throne, Castti, Partitio, Agnea, Hikari Just because I didn't mention a character though doesn't mean I'm adverse to trying out new ones! Please message me if you're interested, either here on tumblr or my Discord, Indago , we can get more of a concrete starter when everything is all figured out

OT2 demo finished! time for thoughts on it so far:
i started with castti (i really couldn’t chose a fav before playing so i just picked apothecary because i wanted a healer and i like alfyn so) i managed to finish castti, hikari, and partitio before running out of time. for the final game i’m probably gonna pick up throne next since i want a dagger user.
ANYWAYS. here’s the stuff i was noticing so far
-YOU CAN SWAP YOUR LEAD. OH THANK FUCKING GOD NO MORE SUPER OVERLEVELED LEAD YOU CANT TAKE OUT
-chapter 1s are always solo, you don’t get to take your previously picked up guys there. i honestly like this a lot better, it gives your fresh level 1 party member a few levels and keeps them from being a cakewalk. id assume this also made them design the chapter 1s to all be better balanced around 1 character (lol ophilia and prim moment). but also, this avoids the therion problem where it makes absolutely no sense that other party members can come with him to rob a house in his chapter 1. this way they’re self contained and all equally difficult so i like it 👍
-new ability meter that’s unique for each character. (i forgot what it’s called already). i like this a lot, it gives an extra layer of depth and niche to everyone, since even if you ran two characters with the same class combo they’ll still have different abilities this way.
-environments and pixel art are gorgeous, as is expected with 2d-hd style but still. the game looks great
-in terms of characters they chapter 1s are all doing a good job of selling me on initial mysteries. all 3 i finished seem to have some good setups and lots of unanswered questions, even if amnesia and evil shadow blood are whatever tropes i dont care i still like them.
-since chapter 1s are solo there’s been no opportunity to see any party interactions, so i don’t know how much more there will be. this was one of my biggest gripes with OT1 and i hope there’s gonna be more than just travel banter and tavern dialogue this time. i know it’d be hard to account for every possibility of party members but. it’s not like this is an indie game just write more dialogue, have it acknowledged please please please please. however it seems when you meet the other travelers they do acknowledge your specific lead, since partitio had specific dialogue for castti recruiting him.
-class abilities are mostly the same with some differences, i noticed some elemental spells have been moved around, merchant has fire now and not wind. i wonder if it traded with thief or it’s like, dancer got wind, thief got dark, and merchant got fire now. looks like merchant still has some of its old busted skills, though i doubt they’d make the mistake of putting runelord back to let you abuse it the same way. warrior/merchant can still definitely do the dumb taunt/sidestep strat tho lol.

Idk if youve answered this already, but im finally hitting the home stretch of my own OT2 run, and i got curious: who's your favorite storywise? a lesser key, whos got your favorite banter/crossed paths?
for some reason this is so hard for me to answer in ot2, its easier for me to answer in ot1. my favorite story i think was overall... i want to say castti. but its not an easy pick. i havent replayed enough to pick out a specific travel banter from memory, but i *do* remember that my favorite crossed paths was the throne/temenos one, which i'm looking forward to playing again. as for something i can definitely say I remember, it's that my favorite final boss is ochettes :P
