It’s that time of year where I talk about this years Eurovision even though nobody’s asked me to or cares about it.

1. Armenia 🇦🇲 Rosa Linn - Snap: Before you all come for me, this song is the vibe I go for in a song. The staging was immaculate (even tho in the semi, she tore a post it off). Armenia was robbed for coming in 20th. I understand maybe why it wasn’t super high but like in my opinion, this was so so good. Glad Armenia is back. 100/10

2. Sweden 🇸🇪 Cornelia Jakobs - Hold Me Closer: Oh Sweden, how you almost send Anders Bagge instead of this is entirely a bunch of bullshit. It’s classy, a bit rocky, it’s so singable, and the bitch looked stunning. Staging was simple but flawless as Sweden usually does it. Definitely a Sweden fanboy this year. 95/10

3. Czechia 🇨🇿 We Are Domi - Lights Off: How in the hell did this get so low on the night of the final when it did so well in Semi 2??? It’s baffling to me because we’ve seen openers do well before (Belgium 2016). Czechia take notes bc this kind of song and staging was the best combo you’ve put out in a while. Deserved better for sure and I always belt with the “Where are you noooow”. 90/10

4. Iceland 🇮🇸 Systur - Með Hækkandi Sól: Come for me all you want for having Iceland this high. I don’t care. I want to see more from the Indigo Girls/ABBA crossover that these three make up. The song is so calming and beautiful. Brownie points for Icelandic, which I love to hear in a song. If I could, I would’ve given them all my 12 points just to see them do slightly better than 3rd to last. I get not everyone likes it, but y’all really got to let it go with the folky ballad hate. 90/10

5. Portugal 🇵🇹 MARO - saudade, saudade: THE song this year that makes me cry and just takes me away on a journey. The live for this had me living for it. I turned off all my lights, sat there, looked at my bf who couldn’t have cared left, and took my phone flashlight out, and swayed the entire time. Best Portuguese entry since Conan. Super happy it came in Top 10. 89/10

6. Ukraine 🇺🇦 KALUSH - Stefania: “Politics” aside, I was super happy to see them a) be able to represent Ukraine, b) glad they were so well received, and c) definitely a deserving winner in my opinion. I understand how some people might not like it, but bruh I was bouncing around trying my best to get the rap bits in whatever Ukrainian I could even remember from listening to it over and over since I had first heard it. Yeah they probably were helped bc of everything going on, but I don’t mind they won at all. 85/10

7. Greece 🇬🇷 Amanda Tjenford - Die Together: If I’m being entirely honest, this song was immediately one I kind of felt was overhyped. Overtime, it grew a lot on me. I knew it was going to place top 10 from the start, but at least I started to enjoy it more. The staging really did help it for me. While the broken chairs were a choice that were frankly confusing, Amanda sang and ate. 80/10

8. Norway 🇳🇴 Subwoolfer - Give That Wolf A Banana: Silly entries with a good beat seem to be my guilty pleasure because I always loved this song most from this year’s options for Norway. Glad it was chosen so it wasn’t super serious this year. Plus choreo even I could learn. Glad it placed top 10. Welcome back to the top Norway. I missed you last year. 75/10

9. Spain 🇪🇸 Chanel - Slo Mo: Aside from the Benidorm drama conflama, this was a smart choice in the end. Sexy choreo with a goddess always does well no matter who you are in Eurovision (other countries take note). I mean that dance break was having me yelling “You better mother****in WERK Bih!!” God it was so good. I preferred other songs, but Spain definitely found a formula that is gonna work in their favor. 75/10

10. Netherlands 🇳🇱 S10- De Diepte: My winner for the longest time. Thought we’d be going back to Holland next year, but the other songs commanded stage a bit more live. I don’t know any Dutch but this song is definitely helping me learn some more and how to pronounce words (this is why I like native tongue songs). S10 did so well and I think 11th is fine, but should have been in top 10. 74/10

11. Ireland 🇮🇪 Brooke - That’s Rich: Y’all who can vote suck. Ireland actually did something right for once and you guys did nothing to reward them. Sure That’s Rich didn’t have the same gags to it that maybe some other Semi 2 songs did, but y’all did my girl dirty. Bloodbaths be hard and Ireland always lands in them unfortunately it seems. 70/10

12. Romania 🇷🇴 WRS - Llamame: Bébé got me dancing. Welcome back Romania. This is how to do it. Again bonus on the choreo and the male male flamenco moment had me going even if it was just for a second. Wasn’t too high on my radar until the live performances. WRS killed it. 65/10

13. UK 🇬🇧 Sam Ryder - Space Man: UK him? You actually didn’t fuck up this year. I mean Molly and Lucie were fantastic as well, but the staging this year was top notch. I still prefer other songs but I guess a top 10 finish was deserved. 60/10

14. Cyprus 🇨🇾 Andromache - Eλα: Aphrodite called and said yes bitch. I personally think Cyprus was just victim to a tough semi. But JURY votes at 9???!!! 9????!!!!! Robbery of the biggest stint of this year in my opinion. Was it sang the best? Not 100% but still around 80%. The staging was also cool and very Birth of Venus clamshell realness. Bonus points for Greek. Studio was definitely better by a bit but should have qualified. 55/10

15. France 🇫🇷 alvan & ahez - Fulenn: A grower for me for sure. It’s hard to follow Barbara Pravi. Having Breton was super cool and the stage was not as hot a mess as it was in the French final. Did it deserve second last? No. Did it deserve top 10? No. I thoroughly enjoy the song and sing along when it comes on. 60/10

16. Italy 🇮🇹 Mahmood & Blanco - Brividi: Love the song and was a winner with just studio version for a while (til S10). The live was a bit of a let down especially when we can see what Mahmood is capable of (2019). Maybe a bit too much wine? Maybe they lost some of the sexual tension they seemed to have during San Remo? Either way, I still listen to the studio and sing along while belting Mahmoods part in the chorus. 55/10

17. Serbia 🇷🇸 Konstrakta - In Corpore Sano: I don’t like the song or listen to it. But I was still doing the hand thing and singing the chorus while watching. I begrudgingly put it here bc I have to accept defeat. Yell at me all you want for not top 10 but I wash my hands of your filthy negativity. 50/10

18. Albania 🇦🇱 Ronela Hajati - Sekret: Look, this song is fun and crazy. I get to whip my hair around and twerk in parts. Was it a bit of a mess sonically and I can see where it didn’t really get viewed as a qualifier? Yeah a bit. But I still wanted it. Why can’t the final be 30 songs? Rip to the Albania streak. Please don’t be discouraged from sending bops like this. 50/10

19. San Marino 🇸🇲 Achille Lauro - Stripper: At first, I wasn’t a big fan and tbh I’m still not sold per se. But that performance was everything chaotic and queer I needed in my life. I mean a bedazzled buckin bronco on stage and y’all said no?????? Shame we only got to see it once. Keep rockin San Marino. 45/10

20. Lithuania 🇱🇹 Monica Liu - Sentamentai: I HATED this song at first. Maybe a bit of hurt in that Ieva was back with an absolute masterpiece and got close to last in the final of the Lithuanian selection. But the spooky disco groove overtook me in the end. Still not my fave but glad she made it to the final and didn’t do necessarily too bad. 40/10

21. Australia 🇦🇺 Sheldon Riley - Not the Same: Wow what a voice. The costuming was impeccable. The song was I think the only thing a bit lacking for me though. Still love it and can relate a lot but alas, other songs exist and did better. 40/10

22. Austria 🇦🇹 LUMIX & Pia Maria - Halo: I wish I could put this higher bc I jam all the way out with the studio. The live detracted for sure. She improved on vocals pretty well, but in the end I guess it didn’t improve enough. Staging was also a bit blah. Oh well. Still got the studio tho. 35/10

23. Denmark 🇩🇰 Reddi - The Show: I do listen to this one when it comes on the playlist. Something nostalgic about it. Reminds me of What’s New Scooby Do? for some reason. That early/mid 2000 punk girl pop vibe. The indulgent holding of the notes in the beginning were my only negative for the live. 15/10

24. Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 Nadir Rustamli - Fade to Black: I’m losing juice writing these reviews tbh. That’s how I feel about the rest of these songs in this year’s Eurovision. The rest are fine for the most part but no longer get above 10s. This song was carried by juries and I understand why. It’s not bad. It’s also Azerbaijan so it’s quality staging and singing. Qualifier? Sure. Did I want others ahead of it in semi 2? Absolutely. 9.5/10

25. Estonia 🇪🇪 Stefan - Hope: A bit of a western vibe is cool (Iceland did it better) but saying hope over and over just isn’t original enough for me. 9/10.

26. Belgium 🇧🇪 Jérémie Makiese - Miss You: The song is good but not great. Live was alright. Qualifier? Borderline and I’m fine that it did. Others were better. 8.75/10

27. North Macedonia 🇲🇰 Andrea - Circles: So so close to the right track. Song is fine. Staging was actually not half bad. Flag drama seemed a bit excessive but what can you do? I wouldn’t recommend withdrawing bc if this is the route North Macedonia is going, they’ll qualify next year. 8.5/10

28. Poland 🇵🇱 Ochman - River: Gripe about me but something about this song got tiring for me. I normally skip it. Idk why. Does he sing well? Hell yes. He sings so well. I just grew tired of the song rather quick. Deserve to qualify? Absolutely. Just not high on my rank. 8.25/10

29. Finland 🇫🇮 The Rasmus - Jezebel: Again gripe about me. I don’t care. It’s a good rock song. UMK this year had so many better options. This one just got old quick like Poland for me. 8.25/10

30. Croatia 🇭🇷 Mia Dimsič - Guilty Pleasure: The lesser of the folky girl songs. Definitely gave me Taylor Swift vibes. On the live performance, the Croatian bumped my interest but it’s pretty much just that and nothing else that makes me perk up. It was performed well though. 7.75/10

31. Malta 🇲🇹 Emma Muscat - I Am What I Am: This song suffers from basicness. Cliché Eurovision songs are fine to me, but this one didn’t even make it to the level of cliché where it’s good enough to overlook it. Instead,it’s so basic that it gets overlooked entirely. 7/10

32. Switzerland 🇨🇭 Marius Bear - Boys Do Cry: That we do. Especially after losing the streak of amazing songs coming from Switzerland. The song is a twinge off for me. A bit too boring. Didn’t really deserve the final but whatever. 6/10

33. Latvia 🇱🇻 Citi Zēni - Eat Your Salad: As a scientist, I approve of environmental messages. But this song I am not a fan of. It’s not about 😺 that gets me a bit turned off. It’s just too much in a not great way for me. Idk why. 5/10

34. Germany 🇩🇪 Malik Harris - Rockstars: Boring. End of story. But still better than some. Germany you can do better. 3/10

35. Moldova 🇲🇩 Zdob si Zdub - Trenuletul: Did they turn the party live? Yes. Did I still like the song? No. 3/10

36. Slovenia 🇸🇮 LPS - Disko: This song takes 5ever to start and doesn’t seem to go much of anywhere. I tried to give it a chance bc I love disco but alas. 2/10

37. Georgia 🇬🇪 Circus Mircus - Lock Me In: I’ll give them creativity and character. Costuming? Sure. Song? Too many components shoved into one. 2/10

38. Bulgaria 🇧🇬 Intelligent Music Project - Intention: Dads who rock in the garage should probably stay there. Nothing super bad, just wasn’t interesting for me. 1.5/10

39. Montenegro 🇲🇪 Vladana - Breathe: was she stunning? Yes. Was the song any good? Meh. I also didn’t like the vocals? Seemed out of breathe at times???? 1/10

40. Israel 🇮🇱 Michael Ben David - I.M.: I M over it. Officially. I found this super grating and annoying for some reason. Revamp was better than the original but still hated it. 0/10

A not-at-all brief commentary on BE-hind story interview.

We really got over an hour of BTS just talking about their music. They really told the media yall don’t ask the right questions so let me do it for you. Love that for them. 

But honestly I am so happy that they decided to do this. Because most of the time interviewers don’t ask the right questions or it is in a situation where they have time constraints. Or the interviewer never even listened to the album in the first place (think james corden saying his favorite track on be is dynamite probs because it seemed like that was the only one he knew).

I appreciate as well that it is the members interviewing each other. They could have just as easily sat each member in a room and asked them the questions off screen. But they didn't. I think that adds such a personal element to the interview. Bts members likely know about each other’s music (even solo music) better than anyone else. So who better to talk with the members about their music than each other?

JK interviews Jin

Blonde jk for the win

I lost count of how many times they shook hands please they are so annoying 

Jin please don’t downplay your talents. That hurt my heart. If I could describe his voice in one word it would have been powerful. I hope that jin got to see all the praise after the fix you cover. Because he killed it in that. 

I loved getting to hear the behind the scene of jin’s role in stay; I didn’t know his role in it before he talked about it.

I’m glad jin got to release abyss and put so much of his own work into it. It is also so amazing to hear how much help joon is to all of the members when it comes to lyrics and music. A talented king. 

Slightly surprised there wasn't more clowning around in their interview since these two are usually so chaotic together. I thought jk would clown jin when they started talking about jin being older but he didn't. Growth. 

Hobi interviews JK

Hobi looks so soft in that cardigan 

Hobi right off the bat asking about the mixtape. He knows what we want. 

Jk talking about how he wants to try writing songs not just about his own experiences was so interesting to hear; can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the future. 

Him talking about all the different things he wants to try but it’s almost too many was very relatable. That feeling of having so many choices you don't know where to start. But that does mean that when we do get a mixtape from him it will be from varying styles of music and i am all here for that. Personally holding out for rocker jk or acoustic jk. 

His favorite song to sing is euphoria; that’s so sweet it is such a gem of a song. I think I would have chosen still with you since it’s pretty different than a lot of the other songs he sings.

Hobi saying “you’re all grown up” to jk and jk saying “i'm not the old me” really hit me in the feels. Hobi and bts really did watch jk grow from a slightly awkward pre-teen to the confident man he is today. They must feel so proud of him. 23 yo jk is not a baby of bts anymore. He does what he wants. He wears what wants. He has long hair and dyes it blonde then blue just because he can. He even talked about how his voice has matured. Im glad that the members see that too and seem to be proud of the person he has became. 

3 main tracks. 3 mv. 3 choreos of different styles. Yes do it jk please im begging. After seeing him dance in black swan at mma i want to see more contemporary dancing from him. And i feel like after getting still with you and stay he can write songs that would fit that vibe. I just want to see jk’s dance talent showcased more. 

I don’t know if the fans could survive 3 separate jk mv. We barely survived a live performance of my time. 

Tae interviews Hobi

Tae in that emerald green sweater. He looks so good. He should wear that color more

I love how serious tae is about playing the interviewer. The actor in him never sleeps. 

Hobi talking about the dual meanings behind the title of Dis-ease was so cool. Fans obviously caught that it could mean multiple things. But as far as i know that was never confirmed. Now that it is I am once again impressed with the thought they put behind everything they do. 

A psychological occupational disease. Your mind hobi 

I think it’s so cool that hobi recorded it by himself and how he said that doing it like that allows him to grow as a producer since he has to listen and edit himself. They really just always continue to grow in their roles in music don’t they? 

Hobi talking about how he would love to solve his own problems but then remembering that he is part of a team really shows how much they trust and rely on each other. So he and jimin worked on the melody of the bridge together and then joon wrote the lyrics. And now we have the most iconic bridge of all time. Still holding out for a dis-ease live performance or music video (I’m a clown I know). 

And lol at tae being like call me next time dude

Please tae is so sweet and attentive!? “When you talked about music i noticed you had a smile on your face and i thought ‘he really loves music’”. “But personally if i had your skills I’d be showing off and be proud of myself”. Kim taehyung is the embodiment of a teddy bear 

And closing it with actor tae again -- “can i get your autograph” 

Jin interviews Jimin

Two seconds into the interview they are clowning each other with jin saying to talk informally. Yet as soon as jm did (and that slight smile when he did), jin is like I was talking to myself. Chaotic as expected of these two. 

Jm talking about his process for music being “just go as i feel” makes so much sense for him. He is an easy going person and it makes sense that it reflects in his work style. 

It’s so cool that him coming up with the melody of the dis-ease bridge was just because he was humming to himself and the producer liked it -- almost serendipitous if you will  

I love when people praise jimin for his vocals. So hearing him talk about how they used his vocal in place of a female for lgo’s chorus stroked my jm bias ego

Joon is seriously the best human ever. Jimin didn’t want to bother the other members to help with christmas love but joon contacted him and helped with the lyrics anyway. Bts seriously has the most amazing leader. 

“I’d like to try making an acoustic style song”. Please do it jimin. Acoustic bts is my weakness but especially acoustic jimin. Songs like promise sound so good with his singing style.

Jimin interviews Joon

Minimoni look so cozy in their sweatshirts sitting on a plush rug. 

“You know we have this youngest member”. “Oh jungkook?” “No the real youngest” “Oh seokjin. That’s a shame” -- please minimoni are so funny and joon knew immediately who jm was talking about when he said the real youngest. 

“It felt like I was doing the only thing i could do” . Please let me give you a hug joon

Joon’s mind continues to amaze me. How he talked about needing the concept or key word to give “flesh” to the song was such a good way to explain how he approaches music. 

“What do you mean little? You play a very big role” -- lol jimin speaking facts. I already mentioned how amazing it is that he helped jimin and jin with their individual songs. The fact that members who want help with their own music always seem to go to joon really tells you how much of an amazing and talented human being kim namjoon is. I can’t remember the context, but there was this moment that jimin (or was it hobi?) said something like “what would we do if we didn't have rm”. They are truly lucky to have him. 

Release that minimoni subunit now please and thank you 

Tell us what you’re working on joon don't be shy. Joon mentioned that his music is like a diary. I would love to know his thoughts expressed in music now. 2018 joon who made mono and 2021 joon are two very different people. Bts has grown so much since then. 

Joon interviews Yoongi

It’s really interesting to hear them talk about their lyrics getting rejected. I guess we don’t hear much about that part. And lol at joon just laughing and saying he guesses he didn’t grasp tae’s intentions for b&g. 

I like that this was more of a conversation than an interview. I love it when these two just sit together and talk about technical stuff that i don’t understand (like the festa interview)

Yoongi is such a good person to make music with. JK wanted to add humming to telepathy? They added humming to telepathy. I had wondered the reason why there are two different versions of the song. I prefer the longer one tbh

Yoongi wants to make an acoustic song? Hell yeah. Jimin does too. So yoongi x jimin subunit acoustic song with yoongi playing the guitar (please). Also a folk song?? Yoongi your taste i like it

I can’t wait to hear yoongi sing im so excited for him

Yoongi talking about how they made this album with no pressure and got to just do what they wanted and that it was received so well. How he wants to keep making music like that. That makes me happy. I want them to continue to get to do that. I love the big productions and concepts of their albums. But if they are happier making albums like be that do not have that then that is what i want them to do.

Yoongi interviews Tae

The title of blue and grey is because tae wants to overcome that feeling. My heart. 

He looked so shy talking blue and grey. I am so excited to see him get to talk about kth1 when it comes out. I could listen to him for hours.

Yoongi straight up asking tae why he didn't include joon’s lyrics was interesting. It’s cool to know that tae had the kind of power to choose what he felt would fit the emotion of the song.

It doesn’t surprise me that tae feels so much pressure to make sure the tape is good before it is released. It seems like when it comes to solo work the members really do feel more pressure since they aren't sharing the burden with the others.

We know from the preview that there are 13 songs potentially on the mixtape. That would be so amazing if he released it with so many songs. Tae’s voice sounds so good in so many different styles so i know that it would be so varied.

Final thoughts -- I love that they got to do this. I hope going forward they do this more for their albums. And from what the members said they enjoyed getting to be so involved in the process of making the album. It would be amazing if that continued. While a lot of their hit songs are not made fully by the members, those songs that are often have more meaning to the fans. b&g, stay, telepathy. These were songs from the members. We got to hear their actual thoughts put into these songs. I hope that bh sees how well this album did and lets that continue.

Haiz!! Could I ask for a Tokyo revenger character match up?

I'm a 16 year old female who stands at 5 ft. I'm a Sagittarius and INTP-T. I'm pansexual/questioning but I don't have much of a preference.

My personality I'm a sort of ambivert leaning more on introvert side. I'm outgoing when I'm talking with my friends and depending on the day and where I am I can be really social, I guess u can say I know how to fake being social? I can say I'm bold with doing stuff on my own or with friends but not to other people. Like if someone asked me to try and climb a brick wall to the roof because they tossed their shoe on the roof I will (and have) but I can't for the life of me tell someone I like their shirt if ion know them. Under stress I react in 2 ways the first way I'm either really quiet and am scanning in my head or mumble all the ways on what to do about the situation I'm stressed about or the second way is me just stress cursing, which may sound like I'm mad or sumthin cause people have told me when I curse it's very aggressive.

I'm quite temperature sensitive especially during summer as my friends say. One minute I'd complain it's hot and a minute after we turn on the ac I'd complain it's cold, it's a problem I know. I have a low level of germophobia as in I sometimes can't stand to touch certain things like door handles or sit comfortably in the school cafeteria tables or the classroom seats that at one point I started to clean them. I struggle a lot when I type like ALOT that sometimes my words come out like this aonomw which would be someone or other times would be like this pan5h34 (panther) or I'd have trouble typing words like table and have to keep texting it till I get it right or give up. I also forget words exist like cake, or light switch ect. I'm also really competitive and have one sided competition that the other persondoesn't know about.

I'm very optimistically realistic yet also look at the bad side of things. Like I'd be like thinking of the good side of things then I'd think of the bad and it's just be a roller coaster of me loudly mumbling then yelling and rolling on the floor of why I thought of the bad. I also have ALOT of theories that I love to tell to those who I'm close with, I make a new theory every night. I also have all of weird 3 am thoughts but during the day.

Aesthetically I'm all over the place I mostly wear sweats or leggings with a jacket or hoodie because lowkey am insecure bout my body BUT I'm working on it. I usually have my hair down doing whatever it wants but when I want to style it I have it half up and half down with my bangs loosely curled.

My hobbies is mostly just reading books like novels, manhwas, mangas or watching anime. I like to play videogames especially with friends I mostly like to play first shooter games like COD, or horror multiplayer games, or also those tapping games just to pass the time. I also like to sing to music or practice singing and dancing to like kpop songs or I'd try and make choreos sumtime.

Outside of the gang, I see South as being really caring and a softie for the person who had stolen his heart. A complete 180 from canon Terano. This is a personal headcanon and other headcanons are available.

So, back to the match-up. South had met you in a music store while he was searching for more classical records. Considering you were shorter than him, it was surprising that you had caught his eye but you had and now he couldn't take them off you.

It was as you entered the aisle that South occupied that he had decided to introduce himself. You were a little intimidated by the tattoos decorating his face but as he started a conversation about music, you slowly got more comfortable. The entire interaction had resulted in the tall blond getting your number and arranging a hang out for the next day. To say he was excited was an understatement.

Your first date would be a simple cafe trip since he felt a neutral place like that would be the best. final kingdom rankings

i decided to do the dumb thing that took too long and ranked all of the kingdom stages based on my personal opinion and ranked my top 7 over all (unit stages included). once again this is an opinion and i’m more then happy to discuss other opinions on the stages, but don’t use this post to bash me or others if it differs from your own. this will include notes on both the performance and the music itself.

with that said i’ll keep it under the cut as this will probably be a long post (spoiler: it is </3):

quick note: i watched all the stages by group and each stage in chronological order as i was taking notes. there may be some repeats of things or i bring up something that’s in a lower ranking stage if a higher ranking stage was one of the more recent ones (hope that makes sense). also if you don’t want to read everything there’s a top 5 ranking and my own final group ranking at the bottom.

skz:

stage 3 - i’ll be your man: seungmin and jisung vocals!!! i’m still not too familiar with the original btob song so i’m not sure how skz’s version varies from it, but their version i think fits their team really well. chan took a little bit of a back burner this stage, but we really got to hear the vocal side of skz shine through this song esp in their lower register which i think it stronger then their upper one lmao. jisung is really the only one (that i think) can belt some of those high notes so consistently. on the actual performance side of things there was an interesting use of sets and props, but not over done. there were some really ineresting dance breaks esp at the end of the song. the story of the stage was also i think one of skz’s strongest (and no guns <3). i really hope skz does a song like this in the future cause they can obviously pull it off.

stage 2 - side effects / god’s menu: really loved how we got to see a different side of skz on this stage with their acting! i don’t think they had another stage that was quite like this one. also loved the mixing again with both side effects and god’s menu with how they used felix as the transition between the two songs, and the FAT synths during the ‘my head hurts’ right before going into god’s menu. while this is a strong stage musically, acting and energy wise. i feel like there was too much of a reliance on props and a lot of work was done by the dancers which was visually amazing!! but skz is a strong dance group too and i wish it wasn’t as flashy as it was.

final stage - wolfgang: this stage and their 2nd stage are honestly tied but i think wolfgang is slightly lower cause i prefer the mixing for the 2nd stage. really dissapointed there was no epic organ player that was killed at the end </3 but that aside i would say wolfganf is a just a really strong skz song that’s a little more in the 3racha style. i really liked how they tied in some of the points from their intro stages with the green mouth light things and some of the samples used in the track! the reason it’s middle of the pack (haha get it cause their wolves.....i’ll stop) for me is similar to the side effects stage as it relies a lot on their dancers and props. it was a really nice ending performance to end their time on kingdom. (also one of their most messiest stages, but it was probably the one with the least amount of time for practice with everything lmao)

intro stage - miroh: really great intro stage for the skz cause we really got a taste of what was to come with kingdom (sadly no jinnie). the mixing was insane and one of my faves i think for skz (esp minho’s part <3). it had the same height of energy as the original tack, just much darker, and there was decent balance between vocals, dance, and rapping. it also showed their great work as a team with the small stunts in the choreo.

stage 4 - god’s menu x d4: don’t get me wrong, this stage is really neat with the deadpool stuff, but it’s also a stage that won’t really age that well? it was more on the gimmicky side of kingdom stages and i’m not sure why they had a large chunk of the choreo with guns???? that’s not needed that you. going into the good things...binnie popped off!! he really stuck out to me this stage rap wise. also the drop for the first d4 chorus was very unexpected but also really satisfying? kinda reminds me of the drop in the chorus for 1team’s ‘make this’ (go check it out if you don’t know the song). over all a really fun stage and their energy was really good, but just wish it wasn’t quite and gimmicky as it was </3

final stage - the real: ok this stage is also really really close to their wonderland stage but is just SLIGHTLY ahead it. this stage was probably one of the most fun ones to watch out of ateez’s kingdom performances because they seemed so loose? like they were really just feeling themselves on this stage and it just looked like they were really enjoying themselves out there like this is what they were born to do. i also love this song and it’s one of my fave recent releases from ateez again (i’m not too big of a fan of their fever series sorry </3). the energy, rap, vocals, choreo was just all there. i’m just really glad we were able to see one of these stages again where we go to see the group really just let loose and half so much fun performing before the end of kingdom.

stage 2 - from the wonderland: look...i KNOW there’s a tentacle, but i’m going to look past that. it might be the favoritism towards wonderland as it is one of my top ateez titles, but i think it they did do a really good job mashing it together with symphony no. 9. there was a decent balance between using props/reliance on dancers and the group actually dancing. jongho slayed that high note at the end, and it was actually placed well in the song where it didn’t seem out of place. and them the OUTRO just represents one of the main reason’s i love ateez with their amazing energy. high energy song, high energy choreo...just the perfect ending to get you hyped. also one last note....seonghwa looked so hot when he was walking through the line of dancers with that rifle (he just looked good this whole stage <3).

stage 3 - the awakening of summer: a very different style from the original and i’d say even a different style for ateez but it still works?? the beginning was a lil cheesy and not sure how the whisper talking/rapping through most of the song works for me, but the INSTRUMENTAL pls play it at my funeral...that synth line <3 i really liked the little choreo with the rope that san did and the overall choreo was also really strong. the outro was a little let down on the energy of it. it may be cause there was some slight timing issues with the vocals and backing track or they were just missing SOMETHING for it, but jongho slayed that belted note once again where i’m not too mad at it lmao.

stage 4 - answer: in the first half i really thought this was going to be one of my fave stages for ateez as the added strings were a nice touch and i loved how they made some references to their past songs and overall concept story line. overall musically in the first part it was decently balanced with a few ode to joy and answer. once it got to the part where it was the opera singers i was????? if they stopped there i think it could have still worked, but the ending there was just so much going on but it was also missing so much as well?? i didn’t understand jongho’s one belted note at the end. this was the only stage where i really felt it didn’t fit. they either needed to not add it at all or have him have one other note after it with maybe a break between the two notes to make it feel more complete. overall...a decent stage, but it really just didn’t have that ateez polish on it.

intro stage - wave: ok tbh i....kinda hated this stage? NOTHING on ateez or wave, just the song did not translate to the style they ended up choosing for it. i think say my name would have been a really strong intro song in the final style chose esp since it didn’t come up in their later stages. the choreo was really strong, but honestly the mixing just seemed like they forced two pieces together that didn’t fit.

the boyz: ok i just want to write a quick note as a general opinion i have across all their stages. tbz is a really solid group overall esp with dancing, but i feel like for kingdom they played it safe in a lot of ways and we didn’t see much variation of wow factors from their stages. they were good!! just (usually) fairly predictable like they set the bar high and then just never raised it again </3

stage 4 - monster: this ranks so high partially cause i love exo’s monster sm but besides that point </3 the vocal line seemed to be pretty much a copy paste from the original (not a bad thing at all) but once again the instrumental my beloved <3 i think because the vocal line was pretty much the same as exo’s made it a really nice balance between the original and tbz version. i wasn’t too sure about the giant snake towards the end, but it actually wasn’t too bad as it was more of just the use of an entrance, then just a bg prop after that. as with all of their stages, the choreo was really solid, but it was the arrangement of the song that really put this performance on the top.

final stage - kingdom come:  dance wise i think this is my favorite out of all their stages. they had neat transitions from their pre recorded parts of the stage and the live part of the stages. really liked the part where the hand off screen was controlling the chroeo. then the dance break/outro!! not sure what it was, but i think it just really highlighted their strengths in dancing as a group. the song itself didn’t stand out at all and i think that’s why it ranks lower then their monster stage. it sounds a lot like checkmate to me (possible blended with salty???) so it’s a solid track, but it just doesn’t sound that different from their past ‘finale sounding’ tracks. it was a nice stage to end on for them as it was really solid, and it capped of their time with the kingdom series well.

stage 2 - no air: tbh the orginal song for no air doesn’t do much but i LOVE this mix of it. it might be the slowdown of the chorus that really does it for me, but it’s one of my fave mixes for their stage. really solid choreo and i liked the paired dancing with the other dancers in the first chorus. i think tbz i one of the the better groups when it comes to non-power dancing....not sure how to word it, but they’re very graceful and i love when they show it off and the dancing in front of the white fabric was a really nice touch. they also pulled off their stunts really well!! that’s another things they’re pretty reliable in, but it’s something they don’t overuse which is nice. a very strong stage overall for them.

stage 3 - the red wedding: someone is going to murder me for this, but i’m not the biggest fan of o solo mio </3 tbz did a really good job with the song! music wise for me is just that the rap sections i think didn’t flow too well in their rendition of the song. i don’t remember how they fit in the original but it didn’t fit that well in this stage ;_; i thought the rest was really good! their use of props wasn’t overdone and added some interest to the choreo that was already really strong. also really enjoyed the sections in the birdcage with the female dancer. another really solid performance by them.

intro stage - the stealer: LOVED the choreo and formations for this performance. they’re a really strong dance group and i’m glad we got to see how good their dancing is with no props or anything. the song it’s self wasn’t too special, it was a solid mix but it seemed like something we’ve seen before? i think it reminded be of one of their stages from rtk, but i don’t remember which one ;_;

sf9:

stage 4 - move: CONGRATS TO SF9 FOR BEING THE ONLY GROUP THAT HAS TAEYANG. i could watch that man dance all day damn. the only thing i didn’t really like/understand was the very end where they were standing in the rain??? it would have been neat if they had one final dance break in the rain box or a solo dance or SOMETHING...it just didn’t need to be there otherwise </3 but everything else was SO GOOD. the concept of the stage was strong, the mixing was fit the group really well, and with move being such a difficult dance, the members did a really good job with it. the props/sets used i think added to it, and there was a good balance between those and the group actually dancing. glad to know taemin covers in the kingdom series did the original songs justice <3

final stage - believer: taeyang once again <3 overall the track sounds like a really solid b-side, but their performance really brought it up to a nice finale song. loved their references to their past stages with the props and formations with the dances, it wasn’t too much and didn’t distract from the rest of it. the use of reflections was also really well done!! that prop was super cool and loved how they played around with it. overall a really nice way to end kingdom for them, and i think dance and staging wise, it was one of my faves to come from them.

stage 3 - the scene: congrats sf9 for being the only group that has hwiyoung <3 tbh this stage would probably be my number one of they didn’t have the guns during the choreo </3 it just...brought it down so much for me (and the blurred out knife???). i think the mixing was pretty solid as it was close to tbz version, but made it fit sf9 really well. the fight scenes were super well done and i feel like did add something to the stage. then overall the dancing was really sharp this time around!! a super good stage....just take out the dancing guns.

stage 2 - jealous: this was one of the few stages outside the introductions that didn’t have a super heavy reliance on props, they didn’t rank well, and then we never saw a stage like it again </3 i loved this stage!! it didn’t change drastically music wise, but i really liked the kind of rock style? remix of now or never and it fit well with the concept of the stage. the formations!!! in this performance were some of my fave and loved the bits of choreo we saw when the members were dancing with the female dancers. there were some parts with the members weren’t quite in sync with each other, but overall it was really solid and sad we didn’t get to see a stage like this one again ;_;

intro stage - good guy: if sf9 just did suit concepts in the future i would not be mad <3 but overall a solid intro stage! there wasn’t much difference music wise except in the dance break in the beginning from the original song. choreo was pretty crisp and overall done well. there were no ‘wow’ factors in this stage, but a very solid one overall. 

ikon:

final stage - at ease: tbh i wasn’t too sure about the song in previews, but it’s grown a lot on me as this past week went on. it’s a great hype song and has the energy of ikon that i really love. the drop the in the chorus is really satisfying and it was just as satisfying visually in the performance as well. they used their dancers really well and the members also did really well with the chorus choreo. it was just overall a really satisfying stage for ikon and it was the only stage in my opinion they ramped up their more laid back energy and worked so well.

stage 2 - to the world: this is one of the stages that really does age pretty well. i wasn’t a huge fan of it mainly bc of the ending and it’s still not my fave but it didn’t take away as much from the stage as i remember. i LOVE both love scenario and killing me. the love scenerio portion of the stage i think it still one of my fave ikon moments. the acting was solid and i liked their story with it. in some ways i wish at least killing me was a little more hard hitting and less a copy and paste for the most part from their original. love scenario was an amazing opening but killing me needed something to make a solid ending song as it caused the energy of the stage to kinda fall off or not really raise at all. overall i do really like this stage, it just needs more of something for the ending.

intro - rhythm ta: i think this was my 2nd fave intro stage right being skz’s. i love the formation in the beginning and the vocal fry on the ‘ikon is back’ was a nice touch. it also just seemed like the most loose intro stage? like this wasn’t their first rodeo and just felt really comfortable on this stage. overall loved the energy of the stage, and there was solid mixing of the song and good choreo.

stage 3 - inception: this isn’t hate on bobby or anything but his rap parts really bought this performance down for me </3 it might have just been an off day or smth but...yeah. otherwise i really liked the stage!! the mixing was really intresting and they really made inception into their own ikon style. the sets used was also probably my fave overall? it was really really neat with the changing sets to match the song title. also the ending was super cool with the dancers in that final formation where they kinda slowed down. a really cool stage overall.

stage 4 - classy savage: family watching yg tv time <3 i think there was a really nice balance of both the original bp song and ikon’s style. tbh it seems opposite of what i said with the boyz..the insturmental seemed pretty close to blackpink’s, but the vocal/rap was very much the ikon style. the reason this one is so low for me is because it seemed like two separate stages with lisa? it was really neat that she was added, but it would have been so cool if he joined in with them for the final outro or something. she even had the same lyrics to the blackpink song as ikon’s changed so it just made it that much more separate. if lisa either joined in more with ikon or she wasn’t added at all i think this would have ranked a lot higher on my list </3

btob: another quick note....i think on the performance end btob is the opposite of tbz. they don’t do much with choreo but they’re such an enjoyable group to watch and their VOCALS are always so stable so i probably won’t have many notes on their dancing lmao

stage 4 - blue moon: concept and comedy kings <3 idk they were really feeling themselves but it looked like they were having so much fun on stage and it made me have a smile on my face the entire time. the concept of the movie worked so well with the style of the jazzy tune. i’m not too familiar with the original bside so i’m not sure how much it differs or if it does at all. there’s really nothing i would change from this stage...it’s just so enjoyable to watch from the concept, vocals, and peniel playing that piano terribly <3

stage 3 - back door: really close to their blue moon stage for me. i really feel like they got the hang of the kingdom stages at this point. i loved their remix of back door. they took a rap heavy song and turned it in to a vocal heavy one so well?? truly made it their own. the weird drop(?) after they say back door just works so well for me and the inclusion of the electric guitar is so NEAT. there wasn’t much as far as dancing except for the small bit at the end and in one of the ‘dressing rooms’ but it really worked for the concept of the stage. idk it’s just a really fun stage to watch and a really good hype energy at the end.

final stage - show and prove: TALK ABOUT A FINALE STAGE. i love this song on it’s own and it’s probably my top song or in the top 2 for the original kingdom songs. this stage is another one that’s so close with their blue moon and back door stage, but i think it ranks a little lower then the other two as there was choreo from the members (or at least not a lot at all). but even with that this stage didn’t feel any less grand then the other finale performances because they killed the vocal parts so much and the song itself is such a GOOD ending song. oh man i would rate this higher if dancing or concept also was involved ;_;

intro stage - beautiful and painful: (i think that’s what it’s called?): vocal kings <3 they really said we’re the best vocalists on this show with this intro and you know? they’re correct. i wasn’t too sure on this stage when i first watched it since it was so different compared to the other groups, but watching it again now it’s a really strong intro stage. btob is a really strong vocal group and they established that really early on and only gave us a taste of what they were really able to do. a great intro stage overall. 

stage 2 - missing you: overall the stage is really beautiful with the lighting and the trees, but similar to ikon’s stage with lisa it seemed really disjointed. the vocal sections were really strong on their own and the dance break section this was really cool on it’s own, but it didn’t mesh together super well :/ a decent stage for sure, i just wish they kept the style of the dance break or just kept it the style of the vocal stage. i think they might have just added that dance section in there as the other groups had such dance heavy performances and theirs didn’t, but again it just kinda took something away from it </3

unit stages: i’m not going to write notes on the unit stages cause i’ve already written so much on the group stages lmao but if you want to more about/wonder why one ranked lower then another than pls ask! i’m just too done with this post to write it now. i will say 2-4 are really close in ranking. love poem took the whole thing for me and i wasn’t a huge fan of wither rap unit stage </3

Screencap from end of ANYC masq when we were called up on stage with a bunch of other people and had absolutely no idea what was going on because no one could hear anything....

The show itself went well overall, especially from an audience standpoint. But there were definitly still hiccups internally. Let me say this, this con is a baby con as far as masq goes. It's been trying to act like its all that but in reality the masq is a bit of a mess every year. Right down to how inconsistent the judging is from year to year.(We didnt even have places to sit as contestents because our seats were given away to "friends and family of the performers." They actually expected us to stand backstage in a hallway the entire show until we were up. I said screw that and led our group to the audience area and we sat on the side to watch.) The judges this year were...inexperienced... to say the least. All contestents were granted only 3 min a piece to be judged for craftsmenship. It didnt matter if you were 1 person or the 6 people (our group was the largest). Instead of focusing on the group collectively, these judges only glossed over a few people. One judge spent the entirety of the 3 minutes focusing on one single member of our group asking questions, and also telling them that they liked the methods they used and they'd try to incorporate that into their own stuff. Essentially this person was just asking for themselves. They did not get up from the table they sat at. (Which I will add was not wide enough for all of us to stand side by side so we werent even all visible when they told us to come closer.) Whether they were doing this because of covid im not sure. We were pretty close regardless so it didnt make much sense. They should of gotten up. The cherry on top of all this is that once again (like in 2018) Best of Show was given to someone who *only* participated in craftsmenship and a walk on (walk ons are not supposed to be judged as a performance because they are simply posing). This happened back in 2018 as well and back then when I was just a walk on doing it for fun and nothing else, I remember being utterly confused. (Correct me if Im wrong but Best in Show can only go to person or group who competed in both craftsmenship and performance.) Because it felt to me that all the people who had put in so much time and energy to compete in both craftsmenship and performance were simply brushed aside. This year felt like a slap in the face as well. I'm not saying this because my group won last year. Im saying this as simply someone who has been attending properly run masqerades like Anime Boston for years and is confused as to why this NYC show is so inconsistent. The performances were all great this year! I would have been completely happy seeing any of these people win. Perhaps ot had something to do with a lack of craftsmen/performance entries? Im not rly sure. Its confusing not knowing what they were basing all this on. (Personal preference primarily I feel.) Anyways to sum things up, we just wish we were judged properly this year. We worked hard on our costumes and felt under appreciated in that regard. Perfomance wise? Ours was def not as strong as 2 years ago and we realize that and accepted that going into it. Everyone's schedules were rly busy this year so we actually only rehearsed once as a group of 5 in october and as all 6 that day. And the choreo was changed a couple times slightly in that day...anyways it is what it is. At least we did a good shoot out near Hudson Yards. Hopefully we can come together as a group and wear these again.

Ok I've watched all the stages On kingdom round 3 my thoughts:

Stray kids;

I was so scared from the teaser that it was going to be very prop based like before but it was actually the opposite! I liked this, it was a new concept that they hadn't done and it wasn't filled to the brim with stuff (also I could actually sEE the stage coughcough sf9 and the boyz)

I also liked how they stuck to the song most of the time, it was very pretty the vocals

I didn't rlly get the little boy there, I didnt rlly get that part of it and like chan only appeared like 3 quarters of the way in?

Also felix's facials was rlly rlly good when he was getting dragged on the floor!!

Lil update, apparently jeongin voice cracked and that why he was upset, I heard the voice break but it didn't rlly bother me because it actually added to the performance.. I wish instead of ppl wanting perfect vocals, we could have immersive vocals (like which one would you prefer, jeongins voice break or someone not singing at all?)

I love love the concept!! I thought it was interesting!! Song wise, it was good, it didn't get me as hyped up as the original version but that's to be slightly expected considering.

I didn't like it, when the wall opened and they went on to the stage and it went3 2 1 and then ?? Nothing rlly??! I feel like they should've started singing together all hype like and start going crazy (like they did a bit later in the stage) but instead it was almost stagnant for a bit?

(Also yes, I did have to cover my screen when btob member ripped his shirt off, I wasn't going to be looking at that!)

I liked when peniel flung water at the camera but it was slightly less good cause we saw him calmly walk to the water bottle before hand. I think, they had the motions of the hypeness but not so much the spirit (which I can understand as they r not that type of group)

Yooo??? Why would you ruin the start like that??? The vocals at the start are the absolute prettiest and then bobby had to ruin it with a yo like dudee there's a time and place for it ahahhhahah.

They had a more conclusive performance than the others where I think they were relying on vibes alone, bobby rlly hyped if up, I can't remember how the stage looked like, ateez, ikons and the boyz stages were similar so I can't rlly differentiate between them

Also I feel like they didn't rlly keep so much to the original song? It felt like 10% was the original version and the rest was a different melody and raps?

Ateez

The car when the screen goes black and they suddenly have masks! That was cool!! They kept to the original song well!! There was a cool dance when one of the members when I'm his knees and did this jump thing and the high note that j- (?) Did was cool!!

They had a good vibe but I hated the remix of the chorus? Why they didn't just keep to the oringinal, the ending didn't rlly fit the rest of the stage, idk why they put it in

Cool camera shots at the beginning, it was less like a stage and more like a film, I liked that!! Cool story but it was slightly ruined as you can tell that they were lip singing 70% of the time (shout out to the dude in white who sang the bridge! Your singing was loud and clear)

The chorus had a good remix! Thank God!! I think the biggest problem I had with the stage, is that the song didnt match the choreo, they are doing all this cool things with the guns and whatnot but the song seems more toned down then the dance, and then at the dance break, the music goes up in hypeness, but the intensitiy or rather the energy of the dance stayed the same?

I found most of the solo stuff boring, I preferred the group stuff! Again, they had a good remix in the chorus and the glitter st the end was pretty and I also liked when they shot the arrow at the end at the sun!!

Overall, I think the biggest problem I had with the stages is that the choreo didn't match the song, with btobs 3,2,1 and then nothing and sf9s less energy dance break, even ikons yo at the start which was so omgod noo .. I think the one group that matched the choreo and the song was stray kids!

I-Land Final Episode and Thoughts *SPOILERS! duh*

For anyone who has kept up with I-Land, I understand how emotional and nerve-wracking this episode was for them.  After developing a connection with a lot of the participants and sharing in their memories, its hard to see anyone being let go.  It has been just as much of journey for them as it was for the fans who supported them and at the end of the day, regardless of who debuts, there will be people who will be disappointed by the final results.  But please please PLEASE understand that you should not put the blame on them or even break them down just because your favorite did not make it.  All of these boys worked hard to get where they are and though it stings for those who did not make it, please support whatever flower path any of them have taken and continue to support and spread love.  With that being said, I would just like to use the rest of this post on my final thoughts on the episode and debut line.  If you are caught up with the show, please read ahead.  Thank you :)

First I would like to say that the preparations done for the final performance, the OT22 interaction and performance, the funny bits of preparing PR videos, dividing roles, and playing Truth or Dare, and the home-cooked meals sent from their parents were all just an emotional roller coaster.  I laughed and I cried.  To see those boys grow was something very special to me and to see their individual selves shine through personalities or skills were always a treat.  Having these segments were really meant to lighten the mood for the final lineup to come.  Personally, Sunghoon developed the most out of his shy exterior and his personality was so confident and funny in the pre-recorded videos.  I also thought Jay... could never escape his dark history LOL.   Also Heeseung’s brother teasing him and telling him to tell Jay he adores him was very cute.  Seeing everyone help each other with the PR videos was adorable and heart-warming (Heeseung even had a whole production team haha).  Jungwon dressed up as a sheep still sticks with me though haha.  Seeing OT22 come together also had me in tears and stitches.  It was so cute seeing them all hang out in I-land and despite how whack it was for the Grounders to never experience it, they looked so happy being with their friends and taking part in this little world even if it was for a short time. Also loved how they would easily throw others under the bus during Truth or Dare and the Questions they voted on.  The love and support their parents got and how each of them could not hold back their tears was really the icing on the cake.  No matter where these boys go, their family will always be their for them more than anything else.  Just all those moments leading up to their debut lineup really put a toll on me and it just made me feel like a proud mom

Okay the team name?  I am sooooooooooo glad its not Dragon Gee or Dee or whatever that speculated name was going around on Twitter.  Enhypen is odd but in a good way.   Its different and it will stick with time even though I still may just call them the I-Land group for now lol.  Pretty curious about what the fandom name will be too (but honestly I think I would still call myself an Eggie haha).

TXT and BTS’s presence was neat.  I wish more of the TXT member’s got to speak but having them all physically there was nice.  Though I will say it was just awkward not seeing them cheer as much.  I also felt like BTS was just bored at some points or were just glazing over when having to wait on each member getting called out.  They did have their humorous moments which was nice to see, definitely lifted the tension in the room and I’m glad they joked a bit (especially Suga losing it lol) instead of remaining completely serious.  Their advice and encouragement were all appreciated too.  Jhope being an avid viewer really showed.  Also plus points for Jungwon getting Jungkook’s attention uwu.   I still wish they could have interacted more and mentored some of them over the course of the show.  The slim TXT interactions with Heeseung such as Taehyun and Yeonjun’s reactions made me wanting more damn it.  But hey, at least we get to see them more often in the BigHit building.  I love a good family.

So the Calling performance was A M A Z I N G.  I personally thought they were so coherent as a group and made me wishing OT9.  There were some who really shine in their parts, but I think all of them stood out one or more times to me.  The dance was pretty powerful and a lot of them improved vocally.  Again, it makes me feel like a proud mom seeing them all at this point, grown and amazing.  The Into the I-Land performance also made me feel that way as well.  They all looked so good together and were pretty in sync given that they were fucking 22 of them.  The nostalgia was really hitting in me and I also teared uo like a big ass baby.  But can I just say... and let’s be real here.... Every single song on this show has been a bop and I would be thrilled to see a whole Soundtrack Album for I-Land on Spotify.  Like P L E A S E.

Now onto the debut line! I was S H O C K E D.  You can clearly tell these votes were not rigged in the slightest and this was solely based on global votes always shifting which was appreciated.  I did not see this order coming and it did turn out slightly different then my post on my preferred I-Land debut line.  So starting with number 1.... YANG FUCKING JUNGWON.   I was pleasantly surprised and I literally jumped out of my bed when I heard him place first instead of Sunoo.  This was the complete definition of people who initially slept on him finally waking.  I was soooo thrilled.  Bro really came in last by the last Producer vote and then climbed all the way to first.  Our lovely sheep garden and hidden ace, a big congrats!  

Jay also left his cursed 6th spot and got second! Again another well-deserved man who gave it his all from the beginning and was no stranger to being straightforward and a go getter.  His stubbornness and hilarity will lead this group lol.  

Jake getting third was a big shock as well.  Our icon of improvement!  To think he was always on the verge of getting placed out of the top 7 members and made it here? Also considering his benefit put him in 7th once when he literally could have been the eliminated member that episode.  UGH.  Our Aussie boy did great and seriously improved performance after performance.  

Next up.... NIKIIIIIII.  Now I’m gonna be real I thought it was gonna be K.  I never placed Niki in my debut prediction, but his Flame On performance really change everything for me.  Actually, just the whole second part of I-Land was very impactful for him.  I was always hesitant about his sportsmanship and whether he was too selfish in the first part (the constant evil-editing did not help, Mnet...), but thanks to other members, he really matured and took a greater lead in things.  I really began to fall for him when we got to see him more playful and interactive with other members.  Like I really thought he was much happier and understanding throughout the second half of the show.  So kudos to him!  

Coming in 5th place was Heeseung.  I was actually confused man.  When he was called first at this point, I just knew this global vote line up will be verrrry different.  I was still relieved that he made it and seeing him choke up, this boy who has been going at it the longest among the 9 participants at 3 years to finally debut.... Gosh I could not.  As someone who is also Heeseung biased, I was so so so happy for him.  Think we all know regardless of which place he got, the boy was destined to debut.  My Ace heart feels full ^^.  Go get him Leader!!!

Now 6th place... my Ice Prince... Sunghoon! I was actually the most nervous for him.  I saw so many people saying that Sunghoon was last in votes or was in danger because a lot of people had the mentality that given his popularity they should reserve the votes for the people who would most likely be eliminated.  I think that’s why Heeseung and Sunoo were scored low too.  Now I am also biased towards him.  I was thinking like what would I do if none of my favorite Bighit trainees (Heeseung, Jay, Sunghoon, and Jungwon) do not make it?  But when he was called to take up the last spot in global voting, I did a back flip (not really but yeah lol).  Given that Sunghoon has never gotten any brutal feedback from the Producers and has always adapted to each concept, he deserved this.  Just everything he has been through... And shifting his life from being an ice skater of 10 years to this path as an idol.... hold up let me get some damn tissues.  May he continue to break out of his shell and show his continuous charms!

Ok the producer choice for 7th place... Again did not see that coming.  Sunoo constantly ranking high in global votes only to be one of the deciding factors was another big surprise.  I have said that Sunoo’s sunshine personality would be needed, especially if the group were to do cute or youthful concepts.  His health had been concerning, but he was able to manage himself so well.  Even with powerful choreo!  He is not really one of the best dancers but he had always been able to do his part.  I really thought the Producers would choose K, but I really thought Bang PD boiled it down to overall skill and personality appeal.  He even claimed that Sunoo would connect best with the world with his joyful outlook.  I honestly could not agree more. I just people do not rail him for being picked as they should now understand he is not just some cute face and has proven that multiple times.  Sunshine Fighting! :)

The eliminated trainees were K and Daniel.  Though I thought Daniel has improved a lot, he was just outshined.  I also think at his age he should have more time spent in sharpening his skills.  What was more devastating was K.  He looked like he was obliterated.  I mean both of them were naturally sad, but K was just gone to me.  I was really hoping that he would make the debut line.  K has shown himself as a performer multiple times and was praised for his choreography skills.  He even showed to have learned from past behaviors and matured more as a person when taking the leader role.  To see him grow and understand where he went wrong.... ugh I really could not bear him looking that way.  His thoughts were all over the place and he could barely choke out what he wanted to say.  I just hope he meant what he said and actually continues to enjoy music and develop himself as a performer.  I knew how much his mom was initially livid at the idea of him becoming an idol so I hope he gets another chance at showing her that he can still do this. Now understand this does not mean you should blame Sunoo for being chosen or complain that Sunoo does not deserve it.  I already feel like he is gonna be haunted with the grim reminder that he was chosen instead and think that he doesn’t deserve this because he is not as skilled as K.  And people are gonna bandwagon hate on him... and again I say please DO NOT DO THAT.  At the end of the day, no matter how much you want OT9 or OT22, this is a survival show and these participants signed up for this.  Yes there will be fans who are disappointed, but you shouldn’t waste your anger on the other trainees who were able to succeed instead of your faves. I don’t want this moment to completely wreck K or Daniel’s chances at being an idol again.  Same goes for rest of the eliminated I-Land members.  This is definitely not the end for any of them so please go on with hope guys because I know you will still have many people’s support!  They will end up on the same stage as their colleagues one day.  

The last thing I want to say is that though this has been a tough journey and though there may be people who will not be satisfied with the debut line, everyone worked hard.  From the participants to the fans and even the Producers, all of them played a special role in making I-Land bearable and exciting to watch.  This is a big congrats to everyone who took part in the show despite having to go through many hardships.  With that being said let us continue to support the futures of the eliminated I-Land members as well as the grand success of Enhypen.  I smell 4th gen leaders :D. Welcome to the BigHit family Enhypen and may your fans, your wings, fly you even higher once you officially debut. F I G H T I N G!

2. How and when did you become a CHOICE?

Oof... so I actually already liked A.C.E predebut since I found their busking videos on YouTube. Back then I didnt know their names and just thought of them as 'guy with the cute smile' (donghun) or 'guy who's clearly just vibing' (Seyoon) or 'guy who knows he's hot shit' (jun) lmaoo.. so it must've been around 2016 that i discovered them? I only properly started stanning them when they actually had their debut though

3. What is your favourite part of being a CHOICE?

I'm actually not super deep in the fandom (so really thanks a lot for tagging me despite that!!!!) but I think overall we're a pretty civil fun little bunch of people who are generally nice to mope around and just simply stanning a wholesome group like a.c.e who continously put out great stuff is the best!

4. What is your favourite A.C.E song? Do you prefer their title tracks or b-sides more?

5. Who’s your bias? What do you like about them?

Oh god why would you ask me this... they don't have any bad songs nnnnnnghhh. I think recently I've been listening to Take Me Higher the most just simply because it fits the season so well? Underrated summer bop! <3 Also Stand by You. Aaaand the Butterfly Phantasy album is my favourite album of theirs generally that one was on repeat for like two weeks straight. bUT THEIR OLDER STUFF IS SO GOOD TOO LIKE SO SICK OR THE ENTIRE UNDER COVER ALBUM OR- cbwjefbhI SHOULDNT HAVE ATTEMPTED TO ANSWER THIS.

I like both their titles and their b-sides pretty equally.

6. What is your favourite thing about A.C.E?

uuuuhhh im a basic bitch so mr. junhee it is. He's 1. very very pretty (especially his smile bYE) 2. heavenly vocals 3. just the right amount of stoopid. 4. seriously what is he so handsome for.

Originally it was Donghun and I still regularily get wrecked by the rest of the groups so yeah they're just Like That

It's hard to pin point one favourite thing cause there's so many things.. It might sound funny but I like that they're only 5 guys and not 50 lmaoo. I also think they're one of the most well rounded groups out there. The full package of people who are genuinly skilled in vocals, rap and dance. Their concepts are always creative, their choreos are amazing and satisfying to watch and they all have great stage presence. And then they're ALSO funny and generally just. seem really nice and authentic? like they don't seem fake but they know to keep their private lives. well. private. good for them!!

7. Which concept has been your favourite? What kind of concept do you want them to try?

8. Which A.C.E friendship is your favourite? Which one do you want to see more of?

Another difficult one to answer. I like to call them concept kings cause they've really been putting out interesting stuff only from the beginning- Favourite boys definitely was super cool because I always love a traditional note like the hanbok or even in the sound (golden goose!!!) but I'll also never get over the Cactus hotpants. I want them back.

They can probably pull anything off really.... maybe something steam punky would be cool? its not a concept thats been done too often and they would definitely find a way to put an a.c.e spin on it.

I really like JunChan antics. Just a Fool trying to look after another slightly younger Fool. We love to see it. But besides that I can't really think of a dynamic I'm missing? Since they're only 5 they all seem really close :]

Look after yourselfs and don't worry too much. Let's stay together for a long time! and Thank You!

okay so the concert started with the vcr/video from the dream show ..

rory's little scene was her as a teacher !!! so cute

OOH and then the transition into her into her teacher clothes into a suit .. thats my girl

her hair is still like this. much more vibrant than it was because she redyed it oops

first song was GO!! change ur ways

she was wearing this [ black cargo pants, a black crop top, belt, along with chains lmao idk how to describe. oh and black boots ] for go, drippin', we go up, and stronger performances!

it was kind of awkward at first but then she saw nctzens' faces so she was happy

"to the world, this is the nct! we are nct dream”

she clapped excitedly, jumping up and down

"beyond the dream show~"

when haechan asked the time where the fans were, she read the comments, squinting funnily at the screen before gasping

"one of the czennies said it was 3am!"

the other boys gasped in shock before clapping slightly

"thank you for watching us even though it's 3am!" rory said to the fans. "but go to bed as soon as this is over~ or whenever you're feeling tired, that's okay too!"

"for our global fans, we prepared something special, right?" haechan said and rory nodded, smiling

"so we prepared our greeting in various languages"

rory's greeting was in french! fans went crazy bc she sounded SO good and her pronounciation was good too

after that she says, "renjun took english from me" in english and playfully glared at the older boy who laughed.

she turned to the fans and said, "but um, wendy-unnie taught me that so .. if it sounds bad it's all her fault." she claps as the other boys laugh

when they were talking about how they felt, rory said "i watched superm and wayv's concerts so i was excited because i knew we'd hear from the fans just like they were here with us in person. they were really loud, too" and laughs

when renjun told them to scream, she hit him lightly and said "yah, don't you remember what i just said? some fans it's 3am there!"

"oh dont scream then," renjun laughed, making her laugh before she went back to waving at the fans as they waved their lightsticks

when the fans appeared behind them, her eyes widened and she immediately ran to the screen, waving in all directions

she noticed when she got close to a fan's screen, they'd start waving their hand/lighstick even harder and it made her laugh

"rory, come back!" jaemin laughed, tugging her with him back to where the other 5 were

"wow, pretty grass" rory mocked mark as she stared at the lightsticks where the audience were supposed to be and on the screens

haechan had to hide a laugh

then there was we go up performance

she was in a school uniform standing in between jeno and jaemin

"you guys suck," rory laughed, watching the boys try to succeed

when renjun comes over and succeeds in under one minute and one hand, she gasped in shock lightly before watching him walk away coolly and put his head back down on the desk

jaemin nudged her as she laughed, "you guys are just losers!"

and then it ends on her walking over to renjun and bending down to face him and tapping him on the shoulder

he jumps from how close she is and she laughs, grinning at him, "that was cool" before going back over to the boys and he watches her

she gets hit in the head by the basketball(she's after chenle) and luckily saves it before it falls to the ground and throws it towards the basket, renjun jumping up to hit it in

"i think chenle changed the most" rory laughed, talking about the difference from now and almost four years ago when they debuted

"you changed a lot, too" chenle poked her and she huffed out a laugh, choosing not to respond to him and shook her head

when it was time for the interactions, she had to hide her wince because since she watched wayv and superm's, she was worried about how it would go because some fans' wifi connections were bad(so were sm's but anyways--)

oh luckily the first fan spoke korean !!

"hi!" she waved excitedly at the fan

when the fan said her name, she quietly repeated it to herself but it was still heard from the mic

"there's a song called 7 days in your album. what do you guys mean to each other?"

rory's mouth went dry at that question as she rubbed her hands together, looking at the boys silently as they ahhed and oohed

she smiled slightly as she saw how big their smiles got at the question

chenle said that the members were his family. they're literally siblings

she laughed at that

hyuck said that the members were apart of himself and that he grew up with all of them

jisung said bc they're older than him, they're like his younger siblings

rory had to look away in order to not laugh at his answer LMFAO

she couldnt contain how big her smile got when jaemin said that he couldn't live without them

she literally almost cried from tears of laughter from jeno's answer "onion"

renjun said that the members are youth to him

and him bringing up the stupid bottle to his face . i s2g she quickly yanked that from him so quick while laughing

and then finally it was her turn

"um, thank you for the question, siyoung!" she clapped slightly before continuing. "to me, the members are .. my childhood" she nodded slightly as she spoke. "we all grew up together so each of them have a piece of my childhood that i dont want to leave"

renjun pulls her into a side hug as jeno says "cute~"

wolfies(rory's stans) cried

when the fan said she'd stick with nct dream seven days a week, she laughed from the sudden overwhelming feeling at her words and bowed towards the fan, keeping her eyes to the ground so the camera wouldn't catch her teary eyes

too bad the camera did once she looked back up

"nct dream have 8 members--" when haechan said that, rory smiled big and nodded her head

"infinity" rory cheered, the members following behind

the next caller was up!

"ooh, poland" rory smiled

the fans question was "what are your biggest dreams" which she translated for them

rory's answer was "i have no doubt that nct dream will stay together forever so ... i my biggest dream is nctzens staying with us forever. even when we all grow up and have our own lives, i hope nctzens will some day think of nct dream and smile"

jaemin literally walked over and pinched her cheek, cooing at how cute she was

rory rolled her eyes playfully but let him

when they were complimenting them, jungwoo said that mark really enjoyed rory's parts in best friends and she full out giggled from nervousness, blushing from embarrassment

doyoung complimented her vocals and rap and shes never been so proud of herself

compliments from 127? her greatest achievement

jungwoo then said she was so cute wow more blushing

she found the challenge boring and wouldve preferred if 127 picked the damn challenge themselves bc then it wouldve been funnier and more fun but alas .. sm >:(

THE FUCKING NEXT VCR .. so emotional when she watched over it

she literally just watched her and her friends grow up in literal seconds

You’re right about the kid Dimitri thing it’s a cute element of the movie that adds to their relationship and also dimitris search bc he’s looking for the girl he saved. See I have an attachment to Rasputin&the bat which is half my issue but you’re right about the new guy just. Not being dangerous enough for it to work in the musical. Also pls go off about Newsies I wanna hear about that one

okay this is going under a read more because it inevitably will get very very long.  also spoilers for newsies (1992 movie and musical) below:

first of all a disclaimer: I do like the musical and this isn’t me saying that they didn’t improve anything (Crutchy/Crutchie, actually developing their token female (although I do have thoughts about that as well), what they did with “Once and for All” etc.) but I was a fan of the 1992 movie first so my loyalties lie there.  Also this is all just my opinion

First and foremost: all characters except for Jack, Medda, Crutchie, and Pultizer were done dirty.  The background characters were my favorite part of the movie and the musical really dropped the ball with them, often at the sacrifice of historical accuracy

Mush Meyers, Boots, Kid Blink, Racetrack Higgins, and Spot Conlon were all real people actually involved in the strike (Kid Blink was historically the leader, they created Jack Kelly to have more freedom with characterization), and all of these characters were taken out of the musical or given lesser roles.  They also (along with Crutchy) create the supporting cast (with Jack, Denton, David, and Les being the main cast), which means I was emotionally attached to all of these people and then they were taken away from me :( It’s clear that the people adapting the musical did not think they were important enough to keep consistent, which is just false

In general, because they spend so much time focusing on Jack and Katherine, all of the background newsies are less developed, which means that the Found Family vibes are also slightly less developed (especially when taking away the lodging house/newsies square as a definitive home base and Kloppman as a father/grandfather figure)

seriously I miss Kloppman that dude woke them up every morning, helped them with their spelling, lied to Snyder’s face about Jack’s whereabouts... MVP right there

Racetrack and Spot were done the most dirty (because the others don’t even exist).  Allow me to explain: In the movie and in real life, Racetrack got his name because he sells at Sheepshead Races and bets on the horses there (the betting is more of a reoccurring thing in the movie).  Therefore, in “King of New York,” he is the character to wish for “a permanent spot at Sheepshead Races,” and for absolutely no reason (besides laziness) they have someone else say that in the musical and also cut half his name???  He also is shown to be very good with kids (David telling him to watch Les when he goes after Jack, all of his interactions with Snipeshooter), and there’s an interesting thing to be said about how Wiesel will spot him papers.  All of this is lost simply because they don’t have the stage time for the background newsies

SPOT CONLON! WAS RUINED! perhaps that’s a very strong opinion but they really did him dirty.  In the movie he’s a shrimp with the aura of a mob boss.  he wasn’t buff, and that made him more intimidating because he still somehow was arguably the most powerful newsie! also by cutting out the scene where Jack, David, and Boots go to Brooklyn to see him, we miss seeing him as a true leader and getting an actual introduction to him and how the newsies of different boroughs interact.  I miss his slingshot and his pimp cane.  I miss David calling him the key to the strike.  I miss him showing up earlier than the second act so it actually makes sense for him to be seen as the strike leader that the musical is so desperate to make him (seriously what’s the point of him being in Pulitzer’s office at the end???). also by introducing him later we miss all of the sprace moments :(

I even have some beef with Katherine because, although she’s much more developed as a love interest than Sarah (rip Sarah 1992 maybe if they had actually kept her song Truth About the Moon in there...), I think it was cheap and unnecessary to make her Pulitzer’s daughter, and she doesn’t really have much of a personality outside of Strong Independent Woman who still somehow needs a man in order to get her big break.  She was really written as a Token Female and while I love her and I appreciate that she wants agency and to fight for a cause, Sarah punching a Delancey brother was more feminist.  Also, even David’s role in the story was lessened in order to give room for Katherine’s whole subplot and Dramatic Family Reveal and as an avid Javid shipper that made me sad :(

Now on to more plot-focused concerns!

The! Betrayal! Scene! The movie betrayal scene! So much better! Allow me to explain!

First of all, Jack just waltzing into Pulitzer’s office and getting captured? boring. cheap.  Snyder and the police infiltrating the rally so we get to see Every Single Newsie try so desperately to keep Jack safe and yet he (and all the named newsies) still get captured? Heartbreaking! Engaging! Shows plainly the bond of the newsies!

(also allowed us to have the “on the grounds of Brooklyn, your honor” line at the trial)

The one-on-one confrontation between Jack and Pulitzer is much more engaging and more of a game of wits in my opinion.  You don’t feel like Jack is the underdog and won’t win until Pulitzer directly threatens David, whereas having all of Pulitzer’s friends there in the musical means Jack is automatically going to lose and you don’t even get a chance to cheer for him

The Alley Scene!!!!

Then the actual betrayal scene, with Jack fully dressed like a scab.  every single newsie feeling personally hurt and calling out to Jack, spot having to be forcibly pulled back by multiple people, and then David gets the chance to speak and nearly starts a fist fight when he was the one who always said they couldn’t beat up the scabs… “I ain’t got nobody tucking me in at night, like you.  It’s just me, and I gotta look out for myself” “you had the newsies!”

I quote that scene so much y’all

I miss Jack meeting David’s whole family.  It really shows what Jack himself is missing and longing for, it more blatantly shows David’s Jewishness, and makes Jack finding a family with David and the newsies that much sweeter at the end.  I also liked how a nuclear family was something no movie newsies had (less historically accurate, I know) because I think that bonded them together more, because they genuinely only had each other in the movie (can you tell that found family is extremely important to me)

Jack’s background story.  him lying about his name and then it all getting revealed at the trial was a very spicy moment, and I think it shows just how much he relied on Santa Fe as an escape for him.  He’s created an entire other life in his imagination for himself, going so far as to change his name and fantasize about having a family, and I think that that makes his decision to stay in New York and accept both his reality and the newsies as his family sweeter

also in the musical it’s implied that Jack stole food and clothing for the kids in the refuge, and that’s how he got himself arrested the first time.  I almost like it better if he was stealing for himself at first, because I like having a protagonist who doesn’t need to always be completely altruistic like he was starving and he stole some food and I think that’s justified, so I don’t like how they felt the need to turn him into some sort of saint who was stealing for someone else (that’s a really nitpicky thing but!)

The absolutely bonkers commitment to nicknames in the movie was very spicy.  I think Jake (and Jack, who was lying, and David and Les, who started as outsiders) was the only one with a name and he was even a very deep background newsie.  Wasn’t historically accurate but it sure created a lot of possibilities about the power of names that could be exploited in fanfiction

And now some nitpicky things about elements of a musical that bothered me:

they took away the upper harmonies in carrying the banner???? why would you do that you have Broadway singers and you take away the upper harmony???

switching Jack’s line of “I want space not just air” to “I need space and fresh air” idk I think the first one more fully portrays how trapped he feels in New York and in his situation also it’s more poetic

I’ve already talked about Race’s line in King of New York :)

how all of the newsies are supposed to be kids but instead were played by adults... I know this was because of child labor laws but that’s why newsies is going to be best done as a high school musical (or a combined middle school/high school like my school was... Mr. Holsen when you retire put in a good word for me so I can take over).  if you don’t have at least 3 newsies who are small and young enough to be lifted onto another newsie’s shoulders then you’re doing it wrong

this is very much a personal preference but I really liked how the color pallet in the movie was a lot of browns and earth tones.  with the musical doing a lot of steel and blues it definitely feels like the progression into the mechanical age but it also feels colder and more rigid and I liked the warmth of the movie.

In a similar vein that is also a very personal preference, I liked how the singing and dancing was a bit rougher around the edges in the movie.  I’m a dancer so Of Course I love the Broadway choreo but it feels too polished sometimes.  these are young scrappy kids and they’re dancing like professionals who went to julliard (which like. some of them probably did). the scruffiness of the movie makes it feel more down to earth and swallowable for me

Russian Juniors (Ladies) and Bad Technique (Toe Jumps)

It seems to be a trend, or a rumored trend at the least, that many Russian Junior Ladies nowadays have bad technique on their jumps. Since I love a bunch of the Russian Junior Ladies, and I personally never really placed too much attention on their jump technique, I thought it would be interesting to share how the facts match up with the rumors.

Eteri’s Juniors

Kamila Valieva

This season, Eteri has once again, produced the top junior (so far) of the season. This time the pupil who has brought her the title is Kamila Valieva. While Valieva has been applauded for her flexibility, her beautiful spins, her lines, and her skating skills, it is rare to see anyone praise her jump technique. There is a reason behind that, and the reason is that Valieva’s jump technique is rather bad.

Even in real time, and without a closeup, you can clearly see that Valieva’s jump technique in combinations is extremely weak. She bobbles in between the triple lutz and the triple toe loop, and this results in her basically doing the 3T with no speed going in. Though she has managed quite well so far with this technique, it is surely not one to rely on forever.

This GIF is from JGP Chelyabinsk, the most recent competition, and you can clearly see an outside edge. You can also see quite an amount of prerotation:

Valieva’s outside edge is actually quite good in this competition, but many have claimed that Valieva’s edge is consistently getting worse. This image proves otherwise, and you can see clearly that Valieva still has maintained a rather good outside edge.

However, her biggest issue is with prerotation.

Valieva places her entire blade down on the ice, and this creates a very awkward takeoff that almost make my ankles hurt looking at it. Her takeoff technique is similar to her senior in Eteri’s Camp - Anna Shcherbakova - except it seems to be even worse, as she leaves after 1/2 a rotation. The image above shows clearly that at 1/2 a rotation (when the screenshot was taken) her toepick is still on the ice.

On Valieva’s 3F, we see a similar issue. The edge is correct, but the prerotation is massive and results in a full blade.

However, the entrance doesn’t look nearly as awkward as the lutz, and she leaves the ice before 1/2 a rotation. Her edge is constant and never looks to be close to flat or outside. I would definitely say her flip is leagues better than her lutz.

Surprisingly, Valieva’s toe loop technique is also better than her lutz.

This shot is of Valieva’s 4T at 180 degrees. She definitely has taken off before 180, as you can see her foot is pretty high off the ice. Toeloops actually allow for up to 180 degrees PR (a fan made standard I believe actually), so her 4T technique isn’t that bad!

Daria Usacheva

This girl is one of my personal favorites. I love how expressive her movements are, and how powerful her steps can be. However, while her jump technique is better than Valieva’s, it’s not wonderful in anyway either.

Though her lutz edge, even in real time, is obviously very shallow, and possibly a flat edge, you can see that the takeoff is not nearly as awkward as Valieva’s.

Right as the toepick hits the ice, Dasha’s blade is flat or slightly inside. Her entrance is kind of similar to Medvedeva’s, in the sense that she gets on an outside edge before she picks, but rocks into a flat/slightly inside edge when she actually gets off the ice.

However, like Valieva, Dasha also uses a full blade. Unlike Kamila however, she doesn’t place her entire blade onto the ground, and so...

She leaves the ice a little before 180 degrees, somewhere around 160-170 I would say. This make her technique very similar to Sasha Trusova’s, who also uses a full blade, but doesn’t completely slam her blade on the ice. Another reason Kamila’s takeoff might look more awkward is because right as she picks off the ice, she uses a full blade, while Dasha stats out with a toepick and then places the rest of the blade on the ice.

Her flip has very similar technique to her lutz, so I’m not going to go into full detail about it. (Interestingly, you can see that Dasha’s full blade never fully hits the ice, rather she places the toepick in a sideways manner that allows her to rotate on the ice).

Dasha has a proper inside edge on her flip, not surprising since she has a flutz.

Similar to her lutz, Dasha takes off just a little before 180 degrees, since she doesn’t put her full blade on the ice. She does still PR more than the allowed amount however.

Maiia Khromykh

While I definitely prefer the former two skaters to Maiia, I feel like people don’t nearly give her enough credit. Her FS choreo is terrible and so she can’t so off how elegant she is and how nice her lines are, but there are certain moments when you can see how nicely she controls her lines and movements. But, how does her jumping technique compare with her training mates?

Again, the edge looks fine, but the prerotation looks rather obvious.

When the toepick hits the ice, Maiia is at a slightly outside edge, but once her full blade hits the ice, the blade shifts to a slightly inside edge. Maiia’s technique is like a mix of Kamila and Dasha’s. She doesn’t immediately hit the ice with her blade, but she also fully puts her blade on the ice.

This angle is horrible! But I can only guess that here Maiia has left the ice. I would guess she has 170-180 degrees of PR.

Here, it seems more obvious that Khromykh picks with her blade, which is odd considering she takes off a little before 180 degrees on the flip as well.

Conclusion:

All of Eteri’s students have improper jump technique. I would say Valieva has the worst prerotation technique, while Usacheva’s is slightly better than the rest.  None of them are good though. So, those who say Tutberidze’s new trio of juniors don’t have the best technique are not in the wrong.

Panova’s Juniors

Kseniia Sinitsyna

Kseniia is my other favorite junior this season (along with Dasha). Her technique is much better than those who are coached by Tutberidze. Panova is actually known for teaching textbook technique and training students who have good skating skills and edges.

Her jumps look really nice and tight in real time because she has excellent air position, and a very nice rippon as well. But how do they measure when we slow them down?

Again, very nice outside edge on the lutz!

Kseniia has a very nice outside edge here, but in the second picture it seems that she has a full blade. Its odd, though, that despite having what seems to look like a full blade, Kseniia leaves the ice at around 90 degrees (a little more, but not by too much). So what do you think? Is it textbook? Or does the possible full blade mean Kseniia also has bad technique.

Again, very nice edge with a good lift and good transitions into the flip.

The same strange technique that Kseniia uses on her lutz appears here as well. She seems to have a full blade, but still PRs within a good amount.

Anna Frolova

Another one of the more underrated skaters. I have personally never purposefully actually looked into Frolova’s technique, so I am excited to see how Panova trained her!

While the PR looks to be pretty good, the edge seems to look less stable than Kseniia’s.

As I suspected, the edge is flat, bordering inside, and like Kseniia, she uses a full blade. She, like Kseniia, lifts off the ice at around 100 degrees, and so the PR is definitely within a good amount.

It also seems like Frolova uses a full blade on the flip, but I’m not sure. By the time she is at around 75 degrees, she is already using a toepick so that’s what I included. Again, pretty good technique!

Conclusion:

Panova’s students are known for having relatively good technique. They usually PR an acceptable degrees, and though Frolova doesn’t have the best lutz edge, that seems to be a rarity within Panova students.

Davydov’s Juniors

Viktoria Vasilieva

Another one of my underrated favorites this season. Similarly with Frolova, I have never looked closely at Vasilieva’s technique, so I am interested to see how textbook her technique really is.

The jump looks pretty nice in real time - with a pretty good outside edge (from what I can see), and a very nice rippon.

Here, we can see that the edge looks a lot less deep than it does in real time. However, it still looks to be an outside edge. Her takeoff is also very nice to the eyes, similar to the Panova students.

Vasilieva seems to barely manage an outside edge when she picks. Her technique is not as strange as those of Tutberidze’s students, and she seems to be able to keep an outside edge. She does, however, use full blade and that results in her having 180 degrees PR.

Like her lutz, Vasilieva has a full blade and takes off around 180 degrees. However, she does have the correct edge.

Conclusion

Russian skaters don’t seem to struggle on flip edges, but many of their lutz edges can only barely pass. The two Panova skaters both have very good technique in terms of PR, and Sinitsyna seems to be the most full Russian skater there is, with good edges, good PR and good interpretation. Anyways, this doesn’t mean that these skaters are bad, they just weren’t taught the correct technique.

1. Sinitsyna - 95 degrees

2. Frolova - 100 degrees

3. Usacheva - 165 degrees

4. Khromykh - 175 degrees

5. Vasilieva - 175 degrees

The girls ultimately make it to their interviews with no problem, well one tiny problem. Lauren being so busy avoiding Camila or another encounter like the one this morning she hasn't been able to eat. She's been drinking water, all day. It's completely slips her mind that she hasn't eaten in the past 3 hours.

" Alright everybody welcome Fifth Harmony. " the host said and the girls walk out to the stage

Normani pushes to sit next to Camila and Lauren holds herself back, and she couldn't be more thankful. Moments like this is what makes Lauren feel thankful that someone knows about her situation.

" Thank you. " Lauren whispers in Normani's ear before the host could ask as questions.

During the interview they ask about  pretty general questions.

Are you excited for the rest of the tour?

How was the first day?

How happy are you with the release of your album?

What are you most excited about?

What's it's like to have a number one album on Itunes.

And the are happy to answer, but of course this certain category is simply unavoidable,  boyfriends. " So other than the obvious Ausmila, anybody else in the group taken? " the host asks, Normani elbows Lauren trying to get her today attention seeing that the topic of Luis will be brought up. Lauren chokes on her own spit due to the elbow to the gut, and all Normani does is chuckle.

" Aw c'mon I'm sure we'd all like to know, " he continues to insist, " Well how about this, " he pans a picture and it's Ally and Troy. The fans already know about them which Ally doesn't mind seeing that she is able to control what the fans can and can't see. Lauren wishes she can say the same, she so sick of everyone telling her to be someone she's not.

" Oh, okay I guess it's my turn. " Ally laughs and begins to talk about her and Troy even though she's a tad uncomfortable. Somehow within the midst of Ally talking Lauren begins to day dream about how her life would be different if she isn't in fifth harmony. That if she didn't have this amazing opportunity she'd be with her friends in college. Lauren isn't trying to seem ungrateful, not at all if anything she just wonders what life would be like if Fifth Harmony never existed. Lauren and Camila would never have met, and in Lauren's eyes she would have never fallen in love with Camila.

For the longest time Camila thought about that as well, but no matter how much she'd like to avoid Lauren let alone the idea of her. She's got this feeling that they are meant to be in one another's life. Camila once read that the reason why soulmates exist is because before entering this world, a soul is split into two. And they spend most of their life looking for one another, Camila likes to think she's found hers even though it didn't quite work out how its suppose to.

" Lauren, " Normani elbows Lauren again and she snaps back into reality

" What? " Lauren wonders then she glances over at the screen and see the picture of her and Luis during New Years

" Oh right, yeah we're still going strong, " Lauren laughs making Mani sighs. Normani knows that Lauren is clearly lying which meant that the raven haired girl has to continuously relive this rollercoaster of a relationship.

" What's the most romantic thing he's done? " the interviewer questions

Luis is one of Lauren's first real love, there wasn't anything that boy wouldn't do for Lauren. Lauren felt grounded around him, he loved her before everything and everyone else, and for Lauren that is rare. But Lauren also treasures trust like a regular human being and Luis broke that, and a picture equal 1000 words. Months of recovering, writing and simply working on herself, they decided to give a quick try. Luis admitted that yes he did cheat but although this is no excuse to cheat, he just simply missed her during those months that it made him weak. Soon after their quick rekindling they both agreed to simply stay friends. There was and still is a lot of romantic things he's done prior to the break up, but Lauren being who she is likes keeping those between themselves.

" A lot of things, and I prefer keeping it between he and I. "Lauren comments putting my hair behind her ear looking down trying to avoid everyone's eyes.

That's where the topic of boyfriends died because Dinah and Normani are not ready to tell people yet about who they are dating secretly.  If anyone in this group had the possibility to become a spy it would be those two. At least Mani could be, she's a personified version of a safe. The girl is good with secrets not to mention her banging bod.

" So do you guys know what Camren is? " the host wonders innocently making Lauren to stiffen,  while Camilla looks at her. Lauren and Normani  were really hoping that this topic wouldn't come up again. But here it is,  Normani thought it would be funny to smile at Lauren sheepishly to make light of the tension.

" Yeah I guess it's our like.." Lauren pause hoping that Camila will jump in

"Ship, relationship thing. " Camila finishes

" And? " he pursues

" I mean if that's what makes them happy they can do whatever. " Lauren comment receiving a pat on her thigh from Normani

" Yeah exactly, sure it's weird but hey it's not like it's true," Camila adds some salt to Lauren's wounds.

After that question the interview ends after singing Worth It. Lauren couldn't be happier with herself because in her opinion she didn't  act weird, let alone make the other girls question her. But she was uncomfortable because the topic of Camren came up again. Going back to the venue Normani couldn't be more proud of Lauren so when they arrive she gives her the biggest and warmest hug.

Maybe I am getting over this whole Camren thing you know? Maybe I'm finally getting over her?Yea maybe...

Lauren thought to herself.

Soon after the hug the two girls follow everyone else inside House of Blues and immediately had sound check since the show starts in 7 hours. But knowing their schedule that usually meant fittings, make up, meet and greets, personal shopping errands, maybe a nap here and there. Finally, of course the last 2 hours are vocal warm-up and show finalizations. A lot of work to be done.

" Mic check one. " the sound guy shouts from the sound board

" Mic check one, hello, hello, hello " Camila responds but then sings the last part

He then went on to the other girls. Camila sees from the corner of her eye that Lauren was leaning up against her mic stand. She didn't look so good, Camila tries to catch attention but she seems rather occupied.  

As the girls do their soundcheck and choreo reruns Lauren is reminded by the fact that she still hasn't eaten. She suddenly became dizzy and light headed, assuming that she'll simply catch up on food after sound check she decides to shrug it off. The music of Sledgehammer starts and everyone notices Lauren trying to hold onto her mic stand but instead she falls. The last thing Lauren hears and see's are the girls running towards her and Normani shouting  " Lo? Lauren? " before everything goes black.

"Lauren? Lauren!" Janelle runs quickly on stage along with the whole crew, Normani steps back and shouts for everyone to do the same. "Give her some space!" Normani slightly panics biting onto her fingers. Janelle dials 911,

" C'mon let's get her to the dressing room, " Will says and big Rob helpS him. Well Big Rob decides that he would do it himself, since of the size different and all.

" Mila do you have any idea why she passed out like that? " Dinah asks while rubbing Camila shoulders

" No, " Camila rests her head under Dinah arms while grabbing Ally. Mani and looks at the unconscious Lauren. That's when it hits Camila that Lauren rushed to make up and hair with nothing to eat.

" Are you alright Camila? " she hears Lauren's voice get closer to her. They are currently in their first show of the Neon Lights Tour. Camila had ran off of their meet and greet. The fans had started screaming Camren when Lauren gave her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. Camila couldn't help it, she needed to leave and get out of her touch.

" You're over her Camila. You are over her. You have Austin. " she whispers to herself 10 times trying to remind herself of who she is.

" Yeah, I'll be out in a second. " Camila croaks splashing her face with some water trying to erase any evidence of her red eyes and smeared tears on her cheeks.

" Please let me in. " she beg but Camila has to shake her off.

I need to move on.

Camila thought to herself.

Austin has been helpful with that but Camila needs Lauren to leave her alone. To give her space, that's what she need. SPACE to forget about CAMREN.

" I'll meet you back in the meet and greet. " Camila commands firmly trying to convince her that she's serious. Camila hears her sigh and quietly leave. Camila clears her throat,  fixes her dress and bow, walking out and back to the meet greet. Camila hears the fans scream, while the girls all turned to her. Camila saw the space between Dinah and Lauren , but she pushed Dinah closer to Lauren and stood between Normani and Dinah.

Camila see's Lauren contour her face trying to question her actions, but Camila shrugs it off and calls to the next fan.

When they got back to their dressing room, Dinah, Normani, and Ally decided to head to catering for a snack before our next interviewing leaving Lauren and Camila in the room alone.

" Talk to me Camila, " Camila hears Lauren beg walking beside her and caressing her arm, but Camila removes her own hand hand out of Laurens touch.

" I gotta go make a phone call. " Camila excuses herself out of the room and leaves.

" Is she gonna be okay? " Ally ask Will , " Janelle got in touch with 911, they are sending paramedics over and a doctor, they'll be here soon. " he answers tapping on his phone contacting everyone trying to control everything.

" Why not take her to the hospital? " Mani sass angrily at him, without any intention

" The paramedics will make that call, okay and if they do I will call her mother, but if the doctors says she'll be okay here I'll do the same thing. Okay don't worry she'll be fine. " He assure as he walks out of the dressing room and it's only the 5 of them

"She couldn't have been sick because of exhaustion. " Mani rationalizes

" She hasn't eaten all day, " Camila comments sitting next to Mani who is sitting at the end baby Lauren's feet

" I thought she came to catering with you? " Dinah questions

" We didn't have time too, " Camila huffs

" What are we suppose to do? " Camila asks them

" Well we can't do much, we have to keep going I think it's best if she rests in peace. " Ally advises putting her hand out for Camila to take so they can leave Lauren in the room.

" Ally I can't just lea- " Mani tries to reason with her. Back then that would've been Camila that would've said that, but things have changed.

" I agree with Ally babe she needs to sleep. " Dinah sighs and Camila simply agrees

" We'll check up on her after the doctor checks her. " Camila gives Mani a side hug as they walk out of the dressing room.

3 hours later, make-up and fittings done the girls can finally take a break and Camila decides to check up on Lauren.

" Mila don't you want some food? " Dinah wonders

" Yea I will you guys go, "

" We'll take food for ya'll " Ally smiles

By the time Camila gets to the dressing room the doctor is only leaving the room. Camila waits for her to leave before approaching Stephen.

" The doctor just got here? " Camila wonders

" No, the doctor the got here at 2 something they've been talking that's all. " he smiles

" Oh. Can I see her?" Camila asks and he gave her a nod

Camila walks inside and found her laying there listening to music and hugging a water bottle.

" Lo? "Camila whispers pulling up a chair right next to her

" Lauren? " Camila repeat herself finally getting Laurens attention.

" Hey Camila? " she croaks in question

" Do you feel better? "

" Yea, " she weakly smiles

" Are you gonna perform tonight o-"

" Hell yeah I am. " she chuckles

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Romania to Eurovision with an edgy plea for a return of special someone

To be honest, I wasn’t that on board with Selecția Națională 2019, like, at all. I get that scandals happened and three songs withdrew from the comp. at various stages due to various reasons, but Romania is just Romania to me somehow. Well there were a few overall gems (some of them out of the finals too), but I just couldn’t be bothered to waste my Sunday evenings on a single broadcast of it. Plus, I was never that swayed by the two big fanwanks from here anyway, so I’m glad they flopped lol.

But maaaan did I have a bone to pick with the people reacting to it. Especially towards the Wiwi jurors. Look, there’s such a thing called as “song growing on you” and “performance elevating the song”, as well as the one that goes “getting over it”. Surely these aren’t make belief concepts of life, hmm? I’m not one of those people who prefer a song more or less thanks to its performance, but there are some good ones that occasionally change my opinion on a song, especially a ‘boring’ one! And thanks to those terrible people, some of Wiwibloggs videos were unfairly attacked with dislikes, and mind you, not only on the Romanian NF interviews that don’t have the current Romanian subject of choice, no - both first-reaction-after-qualifying-to-A-Dal-2019-final interviews (that were of these two) too. And it’s not even the first time a televote winner doesn’t win the NF so you should have SHUT. THE FUCK. UP. (- Penn Jilette) Clear? (:

(lol this is all directed to the people from like three months ago, obviously now that the writeup is late the drama has cooled down A LOT, especially in the light of Ukraine’s events and the actual dust of this Euroseason where everyone made amends with everything, but I can’t help but keep what I thought of this initially because I just wanted to write something for Romania as I didn’t have anything else to say until I remembered the drama so)

So here’s that one controversial subject that unexpectedly slayed the poor man’s “Fuego” and that one homophobic teen by hitting it hard by an extremely unbalanced jury vote (and 24 points to it coming from that core Wiwibloggs duo, no less) and her on-stage couch possessing - the half-local half-Canadian little to no known artiste, Ester Peony, who conquered all in her homeland “On a Sunday”, as her songtitle says (haha bad puns whoop.) Is it any more mesmerizing over the two fanwank fanflops, or is it, just like Wiwi said at first, ‘boring’? Hmm...

It starts of bluesy, with the Western-movie-sounding-pop guitar twangs accompanying the sound, and Ester begins reminiscing her love that left her on a Sunday of September, later followed by snap percussion. And deep inside she wants that person to come back “to [her], to [her], to [he-eeee-eeee-er], eh, eh, eh, eh”. She begs and pleads for the return for her loved one, as I believe the absence deeply upsets her (smoke from the ashtray, everything’s so cold an gray, loving is a hard price to pay) and eats her up from the inside to a degree. I never had someone to leave me like that on a whatever the day was, but I feel for Ester’s song’s protagoniste.

Here are some interesting things I find in this song: its progressive intensity; the decision of putting a 3rd verse up in the place of the bridge; right after some additional “eh eh eh eh” after the chorus (bridges are usually of completely different vocal line ways); cool voice of the singer’s; the strings; the beat... and the fact that it’s described as “electro-pop”. Pop I might get, in fact it sometimes reminds me of those older Billboard chart topper songs from mid-00s por so, or that it could have been one of those kind of songs. You needed just to give it to a popstar relevant of the time and voilà - a hit! Electro... not quite sure on this one. Maybe the bass that occurs in the 2nd and 3rd verses indicates something on it but that’s all.

And man do I hate to say this but the song's attitude is something that makes me wanna scream sometimes. It occasionally happens when I stop feeling so happy clappy for a song a few listens later because I just don't feel like caring about it anymore and that it starts making me feel some sort of a soulache because I trusted it in the first place. Kinda like "Funny Girl", Latvia 2018: I actually didn't mind it at first but its desperation got on my nerves a whole lot that I got completely irritated. "On a Sunday" has enough elements that I like to keep the irritation feeling at bay, but I doubt that even they will not make me want to smash a chair everytime I hear that chorus again... you think you can suppress your smugness overtime, song? Think again about it later

Oh and there's a supposed revamp, I doubt I would be able to feel any better about that song that way, as long as my mind just automatically recognizes Ester's singing as "whining" for some reason. It probably will make me feel less worse if I see a stage show similar to the absurd mess one from the NF where shit happens and Ester's just chilling on a chair. Game of Loans? Student loans? It was random but I definitely appreciated the scarlet madness all surrounding it. I hope to maybe see something similar in Tel Aviv - edgy imagery, why not. Bring on the candles and the ravens.

To summarize, I don’t think it’s a bad song at all. It’s daring, it’s badass, it's kickass, it comes right at you, grabs you in and you adapt to it however you can be able to. However...

Approval factor: I still have mixed feelings about passing it off as something approvable, but objectively I would like to do so. Good for you to try something different, Romania.

Follow-up factor: Anything at least half-decent is a fine follow-up after The Humans’s mediocrisms (I’m helping the dictionary to have more words, one construction at a time!). I liked the Humans more though and Ester... sort of? But in general context, Ester’s a fantastic successor.

Qualification factor: Somehow this did not sound like a definite Eurovision qualifier to me, so at one point I thought it would be just missing out... but it’s a complete effing borderline of a song. At one point it sounds good enough for a filler qualifier, at another it’s just not qualifying somehow. We’ll see how she rehearses it up in two days, though.

NATIONAL FINAL BONUS

I think there’s nothing more I can say about Selecția Națională (refered to as SN from this point onwards) than I already said in the intro, so let’s get to the moments, shall we? ;)

• So what else do I have to say about the fanwank-esses that hasn’t been said? Well, on one hand you have an Amazon-jungle-tribal version of “Fuego”, “Army of Love”, performed by Bella Santiago (who had one of my favourite SN entries last year lmao), who went all out with body paint and wild choreo and a rap bridge in Tagalog (one of Bella’s native languages) to make it all sound slightly different than “Fuego”, but still, that pre-chorus just feels like a pitched-down “Fuego” from a B minor to a G flat minor, with the same acoustics and the beat, and the drop is some limp-ass Amazon flutery magic. On the other hand you have a 16 year old Laura Bretan with an poperatic ode to her “Dear Father” which was praised for her insanely good vocal skills (I forgot what’s that called... an alto? soprano? mezzo-soprano? sorry I know a lot about music but not a lot about those ranges) more than the song itself... there’s a big problem about Laura though as people found out that she does not believe and/or condone a marriage between same-sex people. For Eurofans that’s a major red flag as as of lately Eurovision is very LGBTQ+ friendly and having had Laura next to people like Bilal or Mahmood would have probably been concerning if she knew of them having had boyfriends... Like I said, neither of those are special. Imo people loved Bella’s song because of the “Fuego” vibe and people loved Laura’s song because of her voice combined with her age. I said what I said. (Oh and there was a missed opportunity for Il Volo and Laura to reunite this year in Eurovision had they only been chosen in their NFs.)

• Screw these gals, now here come on the real faves of mine - another rock band, obviously, and that’s Trooper. No but for real, could at least ANY country have sent a rock song this year? It could have even been San Marino for all I cared but this year is so MoR without a rock entry... Trooper’s “Destin” sounds like something coming out from an epic fable about legendary heroes fighting for their glory of the nation by slaying goblins with wearing medieval costumes (with a sleeveless top and metal armor for the chest), bearing their long hair and looking strong and hunky. Lai-lai-la-la-la-lai!

• Now what were the other competing entries I liked? There were quite a few like the folk bop titled “D A I N A” and sung by Letiția Moisescu and Sensibil Balkan, then Teodora Dinu’s captivating pop tune “Skyscraper” and a really catchy non-qualifier entry by a band Steam, named “The Way It Goes”... no really Romania, why’d you let that flop... and why did you also let 2 Gents flop... and moreso importantly WHY DID YOU LET THE FOUR FLOP??? That’s like the best football-anthem-esque song I’ve heard in a while... such a shame it didn’t appear on the national selection’s final. Oh well. Poor those 4 young souls.

• Now what were those 3 (actually 4) withdrawals? First one was concerning the first ever Romanian representative Dan Bittman and his own problems so he couldn’t return to a NF and be one of the potential returning artists to Eurovision. Then there was this Australian-Romanian chick named Xonia who withdrew for seemingly no reason, all last minute. There was one more withdrawal from a semi-regular SN participant Xandra too, as well citing unknown reasons. And then there’s Mihai (or as he likes calling himself nowadays, M I H A I) who once again wanted to return to Eurovision (no wonder his Eurovision 2006 song was called “Tornero” lol) with an entry, and this one is called “Baya”. And then he went on an epic quest of flopping - firstly by withdrawing his song last minute from SN claiming that it’s corrupted, then considering to return as a wildcard, then thinking on to latching on to Eurofest in Belarus, but gotten sick last minute and therefore perma-cancelled his NFs journey this year entirely by not appearing on the Eurofest auditions. <3 Not to mention he’s a bit of a creep by subjecting people to his nude pictures with just him in his underwear. dude you’re almost 40, stop doing that to the kids. you’re not even a “daddy”. just look how alien you look on your song’s thumbnail:

• Netta continues her guest appearances on various NFs, such as in UK and in Spain (in spirit, as it was just the Triunfitos singing “Toy” at the beginning of the ESC OT Gala). This one even had her singing her newest song “Bassa Sababa” alongside “Toy”. Oh and there also was one of the Festivali i Këngës 56 alums coming by, Inis Neziri, to perform something for Romania after having won a music competition in Romania, and here’s her performance. But did she even have anything interesting in her backdrop as this?

We know you did Netta sweetie but do you honestly need to reminds us? I did not see Eleni doing shit like this and I don’t want you to do the same. Well if anything I am glad Netta only gracefully performed “Toy” on EYD 2019 (which I missed in my “National Final bonus” section for the UK’s review (as well as them reminiscing Eurovision’s best moments) but frankly I don’t think you cared anymore about it when you learned I was gonna write so many long-ass paragraphs, so yeah)...

• So what was the exact thing again that made everyone such bitter Betties? Well, everyone foresaw Bella and Laura battling it out in this NF, having succesfully qualified together. They even did well in the televote. But then the jury vote happened, and it included the God-forbidden Wiwibloggs duo voting separately and usualy picking all the similar favourites based on performances. They were very pleased with Ester Peony’s on-stage chair prop and her dramatic mess so they gave her their 12s. INDIVIDUALLY. And that’s one of things that pushed Ester higher for the win, despite only having 3 points from the televote lol. But the worst part about it is their opinions: they have praised “Dear Father” so much for mostly the same reasons others praised it so much as well, and were stunned. A what they thought of Ester’s song? That it’s boring. And their mindset switched when voting on this NF, with 12ing Ester and only giving a few feeble points to Laura. That’s where the backlash ensued - not when Emmelie de Forest (yep she was in the jury too) did not give any points to Bella Santiago’s song - just for that notion alone. Maybe it was because of a REASON. Laura’s song in the end is just an uninteresting pop ballad with some additional vocal exercising (too flawless that you even tire from flawlessness), Ester at least brought something to liven up her song, and maybe Wiwis changed their opinion accordingly by not being enthused by Laura anymore! And what’s the problem with that, eh eh eh?.. oh right, y’all accusing Wiwibloggs having rated Laura down because she’s a homophobe. Real friggen’ obviously because of that, you guys. NOT. Grow a brain a bit, will ya. (and even a contestant named Linda Teodosiu was pissed about Wiwibloggs not giving her enough points lmao... her song was a typical ”rent a NF songwriter” spiel so she has no effin’ reason to be mad her ‘originality’ wasn’t awarded lol.)

Worth noting that one of the other reasons people were mad that the juryvote points overpowered the televote big time (like 7 juror votes against 1 set of televotes - inequal) and therefore did not even listen to what they had to say (again, Ester had 3 freaking televote points lol). It’s a thing y’all should get used to - juries overrating an act one way or the other, against the televote’s will. It’s a given nowadays, remember. I know y'all Romanians wanted to scream "ESTER IS NOT OUR WINNER WE HAVEN'T DECIDED HER WE WANT BELLA/LAURA!!!" but that's the truth with the juries.

And thankfully, that is, what I think, all you need to remember from the SN headache this year. Fortunately it’s much smaller than the last year’s headache that, aside from 60 songs in total for 5 semis (!!!), also had a very strictly eliminative system that had 3 qualifiers each from a semi decided by juries ONLY (geez not even A Dal does that!), only to soften things up by having everyone fall down on televote’s hands only during the final. And then the final had the drama on its own. But if I reminisced it all on here, we’d be taking more than just all day, so it’s best that I stop this here and now, for all of ya who are already tired of all this waffle.

contestant #5029 - lee hohyeon skill performance ravi (ft. san-e) - bomb (1:41 - 3:41)

from 100 down to only 50 contestants and he was one of them. not that he had been all too surprised when they had called out his name, the grin had only widened on his features at the news that they thought he was good enough. hyeon had been pretty confident in himself he couldn’t be all too sure what the judges would think of him. but he seemed he hadn’t had to worry about it as he had officially made it onto the show and was one step closer to achieving his dream. and now he had a taste of victory and the stage he was willing not to let it get away from him no matter what. 

instead of all fifty contestants, the only ones he had to worry about this week were the other rappers. a small group considering the amount of people who had made it through, so he did have to think that his chances were a little higher than those who were singing or dancing. an while he supposed he could have asked to be competing against the dancers (and was still sure he could wow with his movement), he had decided to stick to what he knew best and was going to stay as a rapper. 

might as well give himself the best chance possible, yeah? he knew it was his strongest skill and while he was a confident dancer, he supposed it was best to go with what he would be best at instead of trying to try something he wasn’t sure of. because that could end with him getting eliminated and he was not going to let that happen. 

he had the familiar aura of confidence brimming through him as he wandered into the set again, taking note that things looked more or less the same besides the fact there were less chairs than last time. and he supposed that would keep happening the fewer and fewer people they had at the end of each episode. but hohyeon didn’t want to be thinking about that, just grinning as he snatched one of the chairs near the front, kicking his feet out to try and get a little more comfortable. 

though when the ceo’s finally arrived and took their seats at the front of the stage, hyeon sat himself up a little straighter. and at least he didn’t have to wait as long as he had to last time to get to when he was finally called up onto the stage. and as soon as he did there was the token grin on his face as he wandered towards the centre of the stage almost with a swagger to his set. he wasn’t worried about the upcoming performance in the slightest. why should he be? he knew he could pull it off after all the practising he had done beforehand. this was his moment and he was going to wow the crowd. 

“hello,” he greeted this time with a polite bow, though he couldn’t help but glance towards so jisub with a small smirk, remembering the comments about his ‘yo’ greeting in the last episode. though the look was quickly gone as he straightened himself out, “lee hohyeon present and ready to go!” he was being dramatic again, bringing his feet together as he saluted towards the judges, though he really couldn’t help but grin the whole time as he did it. finally he did lower his hand again, refraining from laughing too much as he finally introduced his song choice, “today i will be performing bomb for you.” 

almost as soon as the music started he didn’t have much time to react, deciding to go right in the middle of the song instead of starting at the beginning. maybe a bit of an odd choice, but he found it easier to cut it down to two minutes exactly instead of going right from the beginning.

it was all rapped with a steady rhythm, though even though it was the very beginning he found that he couldn’t just stand straight still and rap. it was impossible, in fact. the hand which wasn’t holding his mic was even doing small gestures by his side, bouncing on the balls of his feet as he felt his performance and focused on keeping his voice strong and unwavering. just like he had practised. just like this was another one of his videos he would be uploading to youtube when he got him.

oh how he hated having to re-do things because he had messed up. which was he was usually very good at getting through everything in one take without any mistakes. which was perfect for something like this when one chance was all he got.

it was very easy to get into the flow of the rap, the words seamlessly coming from his mouth as he steadily rapped and made his way through the verse. and he still found that he couldn’t just stand still, walking slightly around the stage, owning it, making sure everyone in the room was looking at him and no one else. he was here to impress and to prove that he was a damn good rapper and proved to be standing there and performing. and it was still just the beginning, really, and there was only a short pause to take a breath before he headed into the next part just as confidently as he had done the first.

as he counted down in english, he held the fingers up in turn, counting them down as he rapped the word. he was also quite thankful he had taken proper lessons in breathing, when you were rapping so fast it was sometimes hard to remember when you were supposed to be breathing, simply going and going until you found yourself completely breathless in the middle of a verse. luckily for him, he didn’t have this problem after practising for so long, finding the perfect times to take a small breath as he headed towards the chorus.

it was almost a shame that he couldn’t dance as well because this song did have some choreo which would be easy enough to show while he was rapping. but he decided that it was probably best for him just to stick to the rules and not try and show off or break any of them to try and give himself an unfair advantage. but just because he wasn’t dancing didn’t mean he couldn’t bounce around, accentuating his words with a free hand as he rapped into the mic, clearly enjoying himself and the music - which he supposed was the point of performing in the first place. it was not fun for anyone else if you weren’t having fun yourself.

though the part in the rap was done by a different person, hohyeon was keeping it the same as he was the only one doing this performance. but he was still making sure to try and add his own flavour to the cover, says words a little different and in his own style instead of just sticking to an exact copy (which was fun for no one). and he just kept going, barrelling forward as the lyrics started to pick up in speed again.

at least after this no one could say he didn’t at least have some talent when it came to rapping with some speed. of course, he was no outsider, but he could rap fast and he could also rap slow. he practised both just to take sure they were both as good as each other. and it certainly did open up what options he could choose for his performance instead of just having to find slow raps he could keep up with. and hopefully the mix made it more interesting to listen to anyway, which was always a good thing.

there was only one thing left to go now, rounding the song up as he  finished with what he started off with to begin with. but he was confident that he was holding strong, showing his talents and all that. and he just hoped that the judges could see that he was worthy to keep going in this competition as well and just not eliminate him at the end of this round.

as the music ended and the gun sound effect finished things off, hohyeon raised both his hands, moving in time with the sound like he was firing off some big gun. but then it was the end. he couldn’t do anything more. his two minutes were up and he was confident that he had shown everything he could. and he wouldn’t change anything about his performance. while he was a little sweaty and out of breath from jumping around so much on the stage, he was still grinning from ear to ear as he moved back towards the middle of the stage again and faced the judges one more time. 

“thank you for listening,” he bowed as he spoke, quickly straightening himself up again and pushing his hair away from his sweaty forehead. now all he could do was take his seat again and wait for the announcement to see if he was going to make it any further in this competition. or end up being sent home. 

hohyeon knew which option he preferred.
