Omggg I love the video you linked for wicked! The first thing my friend said to me was that it was nice that you could tell the actors were interacting with things that were real and actually there so I sent her the clip too!

The costuming was also so so so pretty. I wish they would have gone a different shade of blonde for Ariana’s hair and a little heavier on the blush with her but those were the majority of my aesthetic qualms but I actually really enjoyed it overall and thought it was beautiful. My friend wanted more saturation in the film which I can totally get behind but it didn’t stick out to me as much, probably bc my poor eyes were just so excited to have a well lit film after my teen wolf rewatch 😂

I also really enjoyed Jonathan Baileys’s performance. I really do think he could have chemistry with a brick wall if he wanted to, so happy to have a man that can convey yearning like that on our screens again.

I’m curious as to your comment about not necessarily being a successful transition from stage to screen? I’m just a layman so I know what I personally like and don’t like about films but it’s always so fascinating and educational when somebody who actually knows what they’re talking about discusses things 🤍

It's a great video, isn't it? I love the Architectural Digest videos on film production design so much, it's such a great insight into the filmmaking process and how talented people bring a world to life. I couldn't believe they actually planted all those tulips though, haha. And yeah! Jonathan really does have chemistry with everyone - he's such a talented and charismatic actor. It must be so weird for him to suddenly be breaking out to such a degree given he's been a jobbing actor for so long, but I kind of love it when that happens.

And ah, I mean, the issue with stage to screen adaptations is that they're fundamentally very, very different mediums for storytelling. The nature of theatre is that it's an ever-changing artform - shows don't just differ based on season, direction or company, they evolve based on the artistic choices actors make on the night, on the audience response, on the beat and the pace and the chemistry of the minute.

Theatre feels unique as a storytelling artform because it is, unlike film and tv or even books or games, that are edited and refined after the fact, theatre is a living art which is just impossible to duplicate. People try - the director for Wicked talked at length about the actors singing live during filming, for instance - but that's not the same. There's not an audience in a room watching, there're co-workers and crew, and a bad take can always be redone, a bum note re-recorded. So much of what creates the theatrical experience is about the intersection where art and story meets audience as its being created - - I love cinema, but it's a completely different artform, and that experiential element isn't one that it will ever be able to really duplicate.

Sticker update!! My guitar case is slowly getting more and more covered in stickers and I love it

Special credit should go to @firesidetextiles ko-fi sticker club, source of all the starry animal stickers, the glow in the dark skeleton puppy and ufo stickers, the embroidery scissor sticker, and several other stickers I have been sneakily adding into packages I send my friends. I get a sticker every month and it’s always a surprise because I am bad at time and sometimes there’s bonus stuff!

Do not ever underestimate my capacity to make writing as difficult as possible for myself. This is why I am immune to AI usage. I cannot do anything "the easy way" or I will feel like it's too simplistic and fails to fully encompass the "vision". I have been trying for three years to write a cohesive, somewhat high-concept but overall standard fantasy novel, and I finally got a bit of the rewriting done for it today, and then promptly was like, "Actually this requires building out an entire experimental form that requires an above average capacity for typesetting and a lot of skill with poetic symmetry to convey the precise sense of disorientation you are trying to accomplish."

And the worst part is, I'm probably gonna do it.

I have the opposite project with my final project for my writing class than I do for the anthropology one: I like what I’m doing for it but I keep wanting to take the individual stories in directions where they’ll be longer than will actually work for me to finish the assignment on time
