”Surprised to not see ya hunched over that journal of yours being back at camp and all…”
”Hawhaw…”, Arthur grumbled and just offered Hosea a cigarette. “I was out looking for prongbuck but instead…”, he took a long drag and turned to look to the cliffside. “I found lil’ Bo Beep and her sheep.”
I've been here thinking about where Addie is in the beginning of the RDR2 story. I really love how the sheep just looks at Arthur who's just battling this internal debate.

Turning off the reblogs on this. At the time I wrote it, it felt like what I needed to say. There's not as much activity on the post now, but when there is, I feel...sort of hollow. We're so far past the point where this even means anything.
Y'all remember "cops aren't supposed to kill guilty people, either", right?

In Knives Out Blanc wanted to do the murder mystery investigation with Marta so bad, but she was certain she was guilty so she spent a good amount of the movie avoiding/hiding stuff from him
Meanwhile in Glass Onion Helen was fucking carrying the investigation, even while accidentally getting drunk, and even went to investigation lengths Blanc was hesitant to do

while i wouldnt necessarily disagree that childe seems to be on edge more so than usual (and he himself mentions being in a poor mood in act I) in the fontaine archon quest i do have to say i find it a little funny that theres people who think hes behaving, like, completely out of character in the court scene when he decides to go apeshit after being judged guilty by the justice.exe AI bot like.
did it somehow escape peoples memories that this man when presented with the idea that we as the traveler mightve tricked and gotten ahead of him with the geo gnosis just. entered a state of complete murderous rage leading to him activating foul legacy in the golden house. which actually ends up self-sabotaging his current objective more than anything bc unlike the clear way they struggled against childe before now the traveler just won by default by outlasting him
he mightve gotten over it fairly easily afterwards (in no small part bc traveler actually fought him which automatically translates to equal=respect=friend in his fucked up head) but childes been shown to be a highly dangerous individual with a massive ego prone to outburst in the heat of the moment when outplayed or his pride wounded before even when it isnt the smartest course of action like. this isnt new lmao.
getting accused of a crime he had never even heard of in a foreign nation he only recently arrived in and then sitting through all that court drama and being assured afterwards that he only needs to partake as a mere formality for declaring his innocence only to be somehow declared guilty by a machine is very much realistic grounds for childes patience to reach its breaking point if you ask me lol

14 years old, only like a month into being spider-man, peter takes down a mugger and the guy is cursing peter out and peter just calmly says "i'm fourteen" and watches this dude have a crisis
"no you're not"
"i literally am. did you not hear my voice cracking every two seconds? pretty sure i only started going through puberty last week"
"you're lying"
"believe what you want"
"why would you tell me that if it's true"
"because no one will believe you and i think that's funny. also i want you to know that you just lost to a freshman in high school. even if you don't believe me, you can't prove that i'm lying. this is never going to leave your brain. i won the physical fight and now i'm playing with psychological warfare. and i called the cops. anyways, bye!"
mugger gets arrested and is like "no seriously i swear to god he was in these like red and blue pajamas and had a mask and goggles and he said he was fourteen and psychological warfare and-"

is this ooc for kya and hakoda? yes but HEAR ME OUT neglected sokka
sokka seeing katara waterbend for the first time. sokka dragging katara back into their igloo like "mum! dad! look at this look at this!!!" and being so excited because his little sister is a waterbender, that's so cool, and his parents are making a really big deal about it and hurrying katara out to see the elders and sokkas falling a little bit behind but that's ok, because katara's a waterbender and they need to tell the elders
and so they host this celebration - nothing big because they may still get traders but they don't want this to go out to the fire nation - and hakoda and kya are doting over katara and making sure she's had enough to eat and everything and sokka... feels a little weird. he knows its kataras special day but he just feels a little lonely, but when he goes up to his parents they tell him they're busy, so he tells himself that he'll talk to them tomorrow.
but then the next day, his dad is in meetings all day - that are about katara, he gleans from gilak and bato, who look a little confused as to why sokka's alone - and when he goes to find his mum, she's with katara and she's watching her shakily try to bend on command, instead of by accident. so he goes up to her to say hi but she tells him that she's busy and not to distract her. sokka frowns because it doesn't look like she's doing anything and can't he say hi? but then katara loses concentration to say hi to sokka, and though his mum smiles at katara, she doesn't spare another glance at sokka.
which. is fine. he thinks. obviously life is different now that his little sister is a waterbender and he had sooo many adults tell him as such when their village celebrated it, so... it's fine. maybe it's just because his parents look a little worried, he thinks, as they sit down to eat before bed. they do look worried.
and then katara says that she's tired, and his parents wish her good night and their mum goes to tell her a bedtime story and it's exactly as it should be. except that sokkas still eating and they usually wait til both of them are in their cots before the story happens. so he tells her to wait while he quickly shovels his food into his mouth, and he thinks it's fine but then once he's eaten and moving towards his cot, he hears the end of the story
he pouts, saying that he wanted to hear it too, but his mum tells him not now, sokka. she sounds tired. he doesn't care, he wanted to hear it too. she sounds a little angry when she tells him to be quiet, because kataras sleeping, but he doesn't care, he wanted to hear the story and why didn't she wait? it's his dad that scolds him this time, telling him that katara needs her rest. sokka goes to say that he was only a few extra minutes, but he's shut down. his parents tell him that they won't be speaking to him when he's being so rude, and sokka doesn't understand but hes too tired so he cries in his cot before falling asleep.
the next morning, his dad isn't there and neither are katara and his mum. and he learns. he learns through his parents ignoring him when he asks a question and scolding him when he wants something that he's selfish. what else could he be, trying to put himself above his sister, who could be targeted by the fire nation (which he didn't originally know, he finds that out when his dad yells at him one day and, oh ok maybe he is being a bit selfish) and katara needs her parents more anyway because shes the only waterbender, she needs guidance in connecting to her culture and her history. he wonders whether it's technically his history too, but he doesn't ask. he stopped asking a while ago, stopped talking a while ago.
he thinks he hates katara a little. bato tilts his head and asks him why, when he tentatively tells him after the man prods and prods because "I haven't heard you speak for ages kid, you ok?", and sokka doesn't have an answer for him because he doesn't know why he hates katara but he doesn't want to hate her, it's just that his parents like her more cause she's a waterbender. bato tells him thats silly, of course his parents like him, and he ducks his head and mumbles an apology and doesn't notice the way bato frowns and glances over to gilak, who sports an equally worried frown.
the next day his dad takes him fishing. he's so excited but he's nervous too, he doesn't want to upset his dad and his dad is already looking at him weirdly that morning so he answers the questions his dad awkwardly pushes towards him and doesn't ask for help even when he can't get the bait on his hook, and eventually his dad takes the rod from him and does it for him, and he apologises but his dad looks at him weirdly again and so he doesn't speak again on the trip. but... it's nice. his dad claps him on the back everytime he catches a fish and he proudly displays his three fish to him at the end and gets a laugh for his efforts. so. it's nice.
the following week, there's a raid on their tribe. sokka runs towards their igloo, having lost katara in all the chaos. he pulls to a stop by the entrance, hearing his mum talking to some guy about the waterbender and... what is she doing?
he freezes. the man stomps out of their home, sees sokka and throws him aside. sokka doesn't feel the bruises til the next day, and when he does he doesn't care.
there's no point. he's got to take care of katara. that's his job now

hello, i know we haven't directly interacted yet but i love your character takes thus far dfsfds.
i'm learning abt yelan and so far i love love love her!! i love what you've written about her and your breakdowns. they feel so... right about her to me (if that makes sense). i have a question myself: do you feel yelan has survivor's guilt? and i'm asking on a deeper level than just for those who passed when they got involved in her line of work. i'm extending that towards situations like people getting hurt—or worse—while she's undercover b/c of her.
forgive me if you've already covered it b/c i couldn't find it whilst reading!

I know I'm numerous days late with this, and I apologize for it, but please know that I smiled the first morning that I saw it. I'm truly quite humbled that my takes seem to resonate at least little, because I think that it's one of the greatest compliments that you can give an RPer, because ultimately we seek to present a realistic portrayal of these characters that are dear to us for one reason or another. Yelan was never supposed to be a muse of mine, as I simply pulled for her because of gameplay reasons, and then she kind of sneaked on me, and now I can't imagine my roster without her. I think that she is a brilliant and quite unusual female character, and it makes me sad that the fandom seems to kind of sleep on her, because she touches on an incredibly human reaction to loss (yes, even the dissociation that it seems to create) and loneliness without roping pity into its fold, and a very interesting approach to a breach of the status quo. I wish that the fandom would see that while Yelan plays into the trope of 'femme fatale', it is not the usual modern-type that they seem to like to push narrative-wise, nor is she fully reminiscent of the original 1940/50s trope, the roots lay in it, but she more so deviates in terms of motivations. If you keep that in mind, and you look into her, your entire perspective of her will change, and things may click differently— I apologize, I always end up rambling, I'm sorry! But I wanted to say thank you for the compliment, and it thrills me that she's growing on you as she had! She truly is an amazing character, so any attention that she gets makes me happy. Now, as for your question, which no, I haven't quite covered yet! So I'm happy to get to it:
Yes, she does. And though you note that you're not referencing her past and those she's lost, it is paramount to keep it in mind when looking at her future as she moves forward; because there's a difference to those who speak of disaster scenarios in hypotheticals, and those who have seen it happen with their own eyes. Now, I assume that you mean people who would be considered innocent bystanders, and even informants? People who have no direct involvement in what she does? (Correct me if wrong!) It would be immense, of course. And it's because those are the people she aims to protect. Let me quote a part of her 4th character story for this:
The results of such work please her greatly, and day after day, she perfects the lists, as crows embellishing their nests with shining trinkets. That said, while both are equally obsessed with collecting, Yelan must sweat and even bleed to secure what she is after, while crows need only flap their wings to achieve their aim. Fortunately, this does not bother her at all, for she believes that the intelligence is worth whatever cost she is going to pay. One day, the information will come in handy — Liyue will never plunge into disaster without any clue of the danger like it once did 500 years ago. She will see to it that Liyue is not caught unprepared.
While some may argue that Yelan has her own personal motivations to heading into the Chasm, yes, she does— it was the fate of her ancestors, but no one is ever fully selfless— and she is no different. But ultimately, Yelan ventures into the Chasm so that no one else has to, because the last time people did, they did die (I know, I'm touching on her old losses, but bear with me here). But those were people who did actively make the decision to work for her, they were aware of potential consequences. But look at the mark that it left on her (and you can see a reaction manifest from it best versus Xiao in Perilous Trail and then this pivotal moment when she reaches out to him), and how firm and strict she can be, and how excruciatingly meticulous that she is in looking at problems from all angles, so that the chance that anything can go wrong is minimal. Yelan is intense in this, exceedingly so, to a point where Ningguang notes in Yelan's vision story: According to Ningguang, the Vision carries a message: "From today onward, leave all matters to the extraordinary Yelan." Where it becomes clear that (since this is a hydro vision, and those, especially since Fontaine, seem intricately tied to devotion and self-sacrifice), that she will take on the serious cases herself, such as the patrolling of the Chasm.
Any way, I'm getting slightly off-topic, but it's all to state that the repercussions of Yelan's past dictate her future very firmly. But all in all, there are differences between those who choose to follow in Yelan's footsteps or walk with her, and if she loses those— the weight is a significant one to bear, so imagine the injury to those who have no involvement in what she's doing, imagine the emotional burden to bear if the unimaginable (though all too imaginable to her) were to happen to those that she literally aims to protect, those that are part of the Liyue that is her home, and what she wants to see stay safe, and never torn asunder like it once was. Imagine if her own investigations caused strife for anyone, I think that she would be caught between— 'I'm unsure whether I'm still fit for this', because to her it means that she would have overlooked something, or... overcompensating by doing too much to try and set it right. But both options, inherently, come with a deep (survivor's) guilt.

I mean... I kinda do blame Hagrid a bit? Like I love him but.... there's no way his classes would be approved for the children's health and safety. Not that Hogwarts itself would be in general, but Hagrid's COMC classes were definitely questionable, even for wizarding standards... so yeah, as much as Buckbeak didn't deserve to die, Hagrid also shouldn't have introduced such a dangerous animal to a group of third years without proper safety measures in place. My father, too, would be hearing about it if I was in that class! 😆
Yeah, I feel you, but there's also genre to contend with. The level of appropriate/acceptable danger in the wizarding world is already noticeably higher than it is in ours, so I debate whether or not to apply my own expectations for child safety and welfare to a class that's essentially about studying dangerous magical creatures. Like, students at Hogwarts suffer worse injuries than Draco's all the time — the mandrake scream could stun kids for hours, Lockhart's detentions involved a ton of pixie bites, flying lessons in general, QUIDDITCH, dueling club, blast-ended skrewts, Moody practicing Unforgivables on children (also potentially a breach of the rules but we never see consequences for it), et cetera, et cetera. At a certain point, we have to say that while all of this would be wildly inappropriate for a real children's school, the magical world is just built diff. We can't say that Hagrid is uniquely irresponsible without also indicting most of the other teachers for at one point or another doing something that could put students in harm's way. Which is part of what makes Malfoy's targeting of Hagrid so mean-spirited.
There's also the fact that Hagrid explicitly laid out a safety protocol for how to approach the hippogriffs, which Draco knowingly and willfully broke. The hippogriffs didn't respond well to Neville, either, but Neville backed off when he was told to, so he didn't get injured. Meanwhile, Draco ignores Hagrid's advice and tries to touch a wild and dangerous animal when he's been told not to. It's like a teacher at the petting zoo saying "don't put your hand in the goats enclosure" and then a kid shoving his hand in anyway, and then being surprisedpikachu.jpg when he gets bitten. So while I agree it's Hagrid's job not to let his students get hurt, I think the problem is more that Hagrid (having not worked as an educator) doesn't realize how dumb and/or stubborn children can be, and how "don't touch this thing, it will hurt you badly if you do" scans to some kids as "touchy touchy!"
But like, that's an argument for why Hagrid isn't qualified for the job in general. He's giving these kids creatures well above grade-level because he can handle them, and he has no idea how to rate a thirteen-year-old's abilities against his own (he didn't finish Hogwarts himself). So there's a problem of his inability to judge what would be an appropriate level of danger to expose a thirteen-year-old to, knowing, as teachers must know, that there's a chance kids won't follow the protocols you set down and may end up hurting themselves in the attempt. Which is a fair criticism to make of a first-term teacher who isn't paying a lot of attention to standardized curricula. And like, we know that Lucius Malfoy isn't doing this out of concern for the wellbeing of the student population of Hogwarts, or even out of concern for the wellbeing of his son, who the text suggests is milking his injury for clout well after it heals; he's doing this as a vengeful, petty power play to get his son's least favorite teacher kicked out of school, and Draco is doing it because he was embarrassed in front of his peers. So while Hagrid probably bears some of the blame for Malfoy's injury, his punishment for the whole thing reeks of fish.

Can you tell me why you think muu deserved to be innocented in the second trial? Its been a year and I still don't really see a reason to why she should tbh (btw I'm not trying to argue or anything I just want to know your point of view)
the first and the more silly answer is bc i like her i kinda relate to her and she's a 16 y.o girl. being 16 is full of horrors and considering her conditions i don't blame her for snapping and for her attitude in milgram itself ^^
more serious answer is that while like. yea i don't think she's entirely innocent in this scenario especially w the reveal that she was something of a mean girl too, i'm just more mad with like. how guilty she got in comparison with some of the other prisoners. like if she had gotten a almost 50/50 guilty i would've been less bitter about that is more the fact that she got a 74% guilty vote when a character like mikoto got the same percentage in the opposite direction. like atp i'm team "vote all innocent so that no one has to go through the mental torment of the guilty vote" but there's actually no way in hell that the 16 y.o girl who very likely on accident stabbed someone in a state of extreme distress and was shown to be distraught after the fact is more unforgivable than the 23 y.o who has killed at least 2 people bc of the stress of his job👍🏾 idc how hot mikoto is or how much i like natsuki hanae, mans did not deserve all that
