Day 4: The Merriest Band of Misfits
@arcvmonth
Edit: So I misread the prompt and like was almost done with the story, and so, uhm, yeah.
Characters: Fuuma Hikage, Timmie Genshin Impact
He's falling.
A most obvious conclusion to come to when one feels the wind rushing all around them and the ground is nowhere to be found beneath their feet. Even so, he can still tell that whatever has happened to him, he's not where he needs to be.
The sky for one, is bright and sunny, opposed to the lava field he had been in, and the landscape is so very different. Rolling green hills and a crystal blue lake surrounding a city state. The ground is coming up fast and it is by some divine miracle that he rights himself in time to land in the water.
The swim to shore isn't far, thankfully, but now he's soaking wet and very much confused of where he is. Looking around, he spots a few sticks he can use to make a fire to dry himself by.
It is when he's removing his shirt when he hears a small voice call out to him.
"Who are you?"
Instinct drives him to reach for his sword, but Hikage pauses when he sees the owner of the voice. A child, probably not yet ten years old, holding a small paper bag. He's looking at him suspiciously, and the Fuuma ninja can't blame him. He's a stranger and his appearance doesn't quite scream 'native to this land'.
There are a few more awkward seconds of silence. One wet ninja and a small boy just staring at each other before Hikage lifts a hand in a small wave, "Uhm...Hikage."
The boy nods to himself as if he understands and comes closer, placing his bag down as he points to Hikage's fire. "You really shouldn't do that so close to Mondstadt. Miss Amber will get mad at you. Come on! I'm sure my mom can give you some dry clothes!"
He grins and holds out his hand as if he wants Hikage to take it, and then gasps as if he's remembered something. And then points to himself. "I'm Timmie, by the way!"
Grabbing his already dry mask, Hikage smiles and stands up, extending his own hand forward. "Nice to meet you." He follows the boy into the city where some of the locals barely give him a glance aside from a young girl who tugs at her mother's skirt and points at him. Hikage doesn't mind though, he's sure he looks strange to these people who are dressed in very Western style clothes.
Timmie leads in front until they stop in front one of the houses and tells him to wait outside for a moment. He nods and takes the opportunity to retie his mask but chooses to not cover his face just yet. No one knows him here, so there is no reason to put it back on just yet.
The door opens and he stands at attention and a kindly looking woman stands at the doorway with Timmie behind her. "Oh you poor dear. How did you manage to fall in the lake?"
"...Carelessness." A plausible answer. Believable.
She tilts her head as if she's thinking it over and then lets out a small chuckle. "Ah yes, it is a curse, isn't it. Now come in, I'm sure to find you something."
He gives a bow in gratitude and follows the small family inside and does his best to not drip too much all over the floor.
Timmie is sitting on an armchair, a book in his lap. watching him with wonder and then grins. "Hikage, Hikage, are you from uhm, Inu...no wait, let me check my book." He looks down at the page the book is open too and tries again. "Inazuma?"
The ninja has no idea where that is but figures its best to play along for the time being. "Yes. I'm just here for..."
"Are you here for the Genius Invocation TCG Tournament?!" the young boy suddenly grows excited, standing up so quickly that the book falls on to the floor with a very loud thud.
"Uhm...the what?" It's like a fire doused. And then rekindled because suddenly Timmie is running out of the room, and then back with a box in his hands, and suddenly Hikage finds cards being shoved into his hands. Surprised, he looks down at them and he studies the small portraits on them. In fine print, he can see each card has a description of what they do and he can't help but let out an amused huff of air.
"So like Duel Monsters but not..." he says quietly, studying a card that has brown haired girl printed on it. The name of the card identifies her as 'Amber' and he now has a pretty good assumption that this is the same Amber that Timmie had mentioned earlier. "How do you play?"
It was as if someone had told Timmie that it was his birthday today. "I'll teach you!"
#arcvmonth2023#Fuuma Hikage#you can pry the Fuuma surname out of my cold dead hands#YuGiOh Arc V#YuGiOh Arc V x Genshin Impact#it's a self indulgent AU because like Tsukikage#Hikage deserves a bit of a break#plus Genshin has that card game too#and like Cyno is very much a YuGiOh reference#i just realized that i misread the prompt#too late i've already written this much you can't stop me now

tsukikage fairytale/royalty au
where prince tobio is trapped in a tower by dragon shapeshifter and warlock kei except it's actually tobio demanding kei to keep out all of the intruders while he tries to find a way to get those corrupt lords out of his kingdom
kei's less bothered about being branded a villain because he's already used to it being a shapeshifting warlock. he's more miffed about being ordered around by this high and mighty prince he likes to piss off by calling king
kei: and that is the eighth knight in shining armor they're sending to rescue you tobio: mmhm. now breathe some fire on their path so they don't come any closer kei:
one time kei nearly burned down noblemen hinata and oikawa because they wanted to help their friend tobio and the 2 of them were so shocked to see their friend slapping the dragon with the magic staff kei used because the warlock couldn't hear tobio telling him no
in kei's defense, the trespassers were really annoying and hinata's voice was grating on kei's ears
tkkg's first meeting was tobio barging in the manor kei was staying in and immediately going to business by saying "i want you to kidnap me" and kei's either stunned or had his first laugh of the week or both of them. he told tobio to leave him and go back to his fancy palace
high society really thought their poor and precious prince was held captive by the big bad dragon/warlock while the commoners are welcoming kei and tobio in their weekly dinner in their villages
the commoners are actually convinced that their prince tobio left the palace to elope with his one true love aka kei which is funny because everytime they see the "couple" they're always one step away from biting each other's heads off
speaking of, i imagine that kei didn't have a good reputation because 1) his serpentine eyes are hella scary 2) he has magic 3) he literally lives in an abandoned manor with a high tower surrounded by a huge moat
tobio was the one who helped improve his reputation (which also helped improve his reputation among the common people)
and now the people understand that their local shapeshifting warlock is actually just a hermit
tobio doesn't like that kei's purposely shutting himself out because it was a waste of his potential and talents in magic
what if their actual first meeting was during when they were kids and tobio's just a little prince who wanted to see more of the kingdom so he snuck out with nobody noticing but he ended up getting lost and he got help from warlock in training kei
and after that, kei couldn't shake off the years long curiosity of the princ who badly wanted to see the world outside of the palace and noble society. he thought it's stupid he kept on thinking about tobio when they were worlds apart and would never see each other again
at least that's what he believed until that same prince he had helped barged in on his living space and demanded to be helped once more
ANYWAY the ending is that after a grueling battle and tkkg nearly dying (gotta keep up with the death toll i have for them),they managed to stabilize the kingdom. tobio lets miwa ascends the throne while he "elopes" with kei.
tobio decides to move closer to commoners because he realizes that he prefers helping his people directly like all the times he has done during his times of "captivity". so kei's manor now has 1 more permanent resident yipeee
this au came to me bc it was during misterms szn when i started typing this, an image of half dragon kei hugging tobio from behind with his arms and his big dragon wings, and because i remembered the popular dragon trope of them being possessive with their belongings so....
i also have this wild and incredibly self-indulgent image of kei going feral when the corrupt nobles kidnapped tobio from kei's estate and hid him to 'execute' him for his crimes
and by feral i meant that kei barged into the imprisonment where they locked tobio in and slayed everybody with just his strength and rage alone no magic
#anyway that's all i love this au so much but sadly i don't think i'll be able to write this huhu#tsukikage#tsukishima x kageyama#tsukishima kei#kageyama tobio#haikyuu#jenn writes#originally from my twitter of course

Yoooo!! So for the writer asks, how about 2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 28 and 37? Or just the ones you feel like is fine, too hjdkjfd I just went through the list and realised I wanted to ask pretty much all of them, so feel free to answer any of the others you feel like, too ✨👾😌💙💙💙
2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
I just answered this so I’ll go with another one: long-distance relationships. More specifically, online friends eventually turning into something more until the moment they finally meet. Guaranteed to make me soft every time I read it. I did a tiiiny bit of it in one of my fics but it was only some background story I mentioned, but I’d love to do a fic based on this trope.
3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Not sure if this is a trope or an au (idk I’m dumb when it comes to these things), but omegaverse is something I wouldn’t write and usually tend to avoid reading, too.
5. Share one of your strengths.
Uhhh I don’t know if it’s a strength, but what I *do* like about my writing is the introspection bits of my fics, where I get into a certain character’s head and try to think as them. And I’d like to think I’m getting better at characterization? IDK AAAA
10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?
wrap yourself around me (i admit defeat), this Shiragoshi I wrote for someone really special to me happened in pretty much one sitting, even though it took me way longer than that to edit and be happy with it.
Also when i see your light shine (i know i’m home) !! It practically wrote itself when I was supposed to be working on the longfic you’re reading now dksfjf
13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
I just answered this too but I have more advice: the dumbest, shittiest draft can become an amazing story. Just because you don’t like how it came out at the first try, doesn’t mean it isn’t good. You can’t perfect something that doesn’t exist in the first place, so just write whatever comes to your mind and the rest can be edited later. (The person who wrote the actual advice worded it way better than me but this is what you get dfjsdl)
28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
This is the reason why it took me so long to answer this ask. I debated whether or not to add friends on this list because I admire each and every one of my writer friends, and I didn’t want anyone to feel left out but I’m actually gonna do a separate post about that laterTM. Since this only asks for three, that’s what you’re getting.
@worthlesspride (DeathBelle on Ao3). The reason why I fell and never got out of Shiragoshi hell, and if you’ve met me I’ve *begged* you to read Plumage. She could make me ship anyone with anyone, and her writing is just so good. Pick any of her works and you won’t be disappointed. I haven’t had the time lately to read her two latest fics (anyone’s, actually), but I don’t even need to read them to know they’re good, I loved everything I’ve read from her anyway.
@lavendori (lavendori on Ao3). Her characterization is always so on point and the way humor comes through in her stories is really good. If you haven’t, please please read is that your heart on my sleeve? or her ongoing Tsukikage fic! Also, she’s the sweetest, talking to her is always a delight.
@lozza342 (Lozza342 on Ao3). I love her writing because she can go from melting your heart with the fluffiest fluff to shredding it into pieces with the angstiest angst (also her smut is so good). My absolute fav from her is Make it Work but I love everything she writes, even when she makes me cry. And I love her, too!!
37. Talk about your current wips.
OOF. I have over 25 wips but the ones I’m actively working on rn are:
A Kenhina collab with Jules - Kenma’s a streamer, his neighbor’s cat starts visiting his apartment every day and eventually he meets the cat’s owner, sunshine impersonated aka Hinata. It’s dumb and v self-indulgent just like I love my fics.
A Shiragoshi omg they were roommates longfic, also a collab with an artist!! While there’s still fluff, it’s more hurt/comfort with musician Shirabu and gay disaster Goshiki.
A Goshikin short and dumb and extremely self-indulgent story based on Loz’ Spring Flower. Dm on discord me if you want a snippet just for you.
And I made this too long already so I’ll stop here but I have tons of wips I love talking about if you want more;;
Send me numbers so I can keep procrastinating at work!
