OSCAR PARTY FIC WHEN??
How early does Tommy start taking bets.
Is the dress code themed every year or is it just black tie?
Tommy has a buddy who usually makes all his themed Best Picture charcuterie boards and he is MIFFED that this year Tommy's stupid buff boyfriend has been fine tuning full ass meals for a month: Tommy this is just a plain ass meat and cheese board you are insulting me and My Vision.
Buck makes all his picks based on Vibe (he fell asleep during at least three of the movies Tommy showed him) and somehow wins the pot. Literally every pick is right even the Upsets. Only Tommy knows his bf made most of his decisions based on the movie poster or the actors IMDb page.
After everyone has left and Buck is picking at grapes while they pack away leftovers, Tommy grabs Buck's hand and twirls him into his arms and when Buck laughs and laughs and laughs Tommy admits he's been chomping at the bit for a dance since they didn't get to dance at his sister's wedding and this suit (Buck pulled out the red velvet smoking jacket) has been driving him WILD all day.
(also "suck the filament out of a lightbulb" I'm OBSESSED with you)
@alchemistc you are SINGING my SONG.
Tommy's been running a movie club called The Talkies for the last eight years that is made up of various coworkers past and present, three former Army buddies, and Janusz Kaminsky (as a favor to a friend, Tommy flew Kaminsky around Berlin for a few days of shooting establishing shots for Bridge of Spies, and they were good friends by the end of it).
There are two rounds of betting: a practice one in October for the year's movies up to that point then the real one in December after all the Oscarbation films are released. There's a $50 buy-in and each person can do two brackets. The first year Buck wins it, everyone chalks it up to beginner's luck. The second year, they grumble but congratulate him (after everyone grudgingly acknowledges there's no way in hell he could possibly cheat). The third year, they eye him nervously. The fourth year, Sal corners him by the bathroom and demands to know what the winning numbers are for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing.
The first time Buck attends, he gets into a conversation with Kaminsky and asks a million questions about cinematography, which Kaminsky is more than happy to answer, but then it comes out the only films of Kaminsky's that Buck has seen are The Lost World and Cool As Ice, and then Tommy has to stop a two-time Academy Award winner from strangling his boyfriend to death.

So that safe in Button House? The one that's soundproof? That's where Thomas goes when he doesn't want the others to see him cry, isn't it?
And I'm not talking about the moments when he's being dramatic. I'm talking about that Death Day when he learned what truly happened and everyone abandoned him afterwards for Julian's talk. I'm talking about those nights when the loneliness and self-doubt become too much, and all the times a sudden noise triggered him and no one was there to ground him.
I'm talking about Thomas hiding himself away in that safe so the others won't see how broken he is.
So they can't make mock him for that on top of everything else.

Y'know as much as I love the new lore drops of Bill's backstory after so long and the new works and headcanons and aus made with Bill's parents, I am kinda sad that it essentially dethrones @pengychan 's flat dreams fic from what a lot of people probably accepted as his backstory, even if just fanon. If only for the sole purpose that Liam wouldn't exist.
but then I remembered I could do whatever the fuck I want.
So in my personal au, I like to think that Liam does exist and still is Bill's brother, but their roles would be reversed (ages can stay the same or swap, either would work for different dynamics). Bill would be the treated irregular child. Liam would be the 'right' one. Just an average triangle in Euclydia, with normal eyes not made to see the stars. I think he'd still read to Bill, still spend whatever time he can with him. Not because it's all he can really do constrained, but because of his own love and care for his brother, accepting even if he doesn't exactly understand him. Liam would be happy for the most part, healthy, and just living his best life as he can.
And Liam would be purple.

i'm just going to say one thing that always bugged me about the fandom is the people saying that varian just decided to become vengeful right away or saying that he could've tried other things before hand because like...that's just wrong?
the time between QFAD and the alchemist returns was a long while. and even though varian ended QFAD upset and vengeful, he didn't actively try to enact his plan until later. he literally said that people started vicious rumors about him that caused him to go into hiding.
he literally tried to get help from other sources, and he was attacked.
and i know it's a throw away line, but i feel like it's often too overlooked when talking about the things that varian did because yes he was spiteful, but he was also a young boy who lost his father, and people saw his pain and outbursts and instead of helping him, they spread rumors and falsehoods about him because he was autistic different.
not only that but also fredrick fucking? sucks? varian's little rant about 'your king has lied to you and vilified me' is true! the king has a secret police! and say what you want about varian seeking vengeance as well but i think if the king has a uhhhhh secret fucking guard that might be A Bit Bad
not to mention that he was in fact right when it came to his argument with his father. it says in the books that the well water was making people sick, varian's village was DYING and instead of having their leaders try to correct the source of the problem, they acted as politicians do and tried to cover it up, move away, to ignore the source.
and you could say that it was to prevent wide spread panic but at that point there already was! major issues happening! the rocks were already there! varian is angry that his father isn't being active, that he's not being allowed to try to understand what's hurting his people, and he's right!!!!!
long story short varian didn't just immediately jump to anger, he did try to do other things first and was rejected and attacked, and the season one finale was, in fact, a desperate last attempt action at an unjust social system

HIDE Inspiration Talk 50 (# 24 - 26) - Translation
Eyeball
The first ring with an eyeball-motive that I bought was from a ring shop in New York, where the uncle from the shop said, “This artificial eye belonged to a terribly unlucky person, so if you wear it, you will be free from misfortune from now on,” so I bought it and put it on. I don’t know if he was lying or speaking the truth, though. I started collecting them afterwards. I’m into gross accessories. Because when Gene Simmons wore a scorpion bracelet and a spider ring, I thought, “Oh, cool!”
UFO
When I was a child, I thought of space as the place where the so called monster graveyard that made whirring noises from Ultraman, Alien Baltan and the like was (laughs). There was a period when I was engrossed with UFOs. Starting when I read the book of Yaoi Junichi [*1935, journalist specializing in UFOs], I thought, “Aliens exist for sure. The Soviet Union and the US are covering it up!” I said, “There is a base on the moon. The VIPs are migrating there one after the other,” and made the others read the book as well (laughs).
When I was in elementary school, we would also go looking for UFOs. We’d meet on our bicycles, go up the mountain, and make a base that we filled with anything connected to UFOs. There, on a flat open place nearby, we would all hand-in-hand say, “Venturer, Venturer, space people”*, and “Won’t you come here?”, all bringing our cameras with us (laughs).
[*) A chant commonly used to summon a UFO from out of nowhere. The translation “Venturer” is an educated guess made by me, picked as the most sensible, though not the most obvious choice for transcribing the word ベントラ. I have been unable to find an official transcribtion.]
[On a different note, this is the only quote from the collection that has an actual line break in it, so I suspect that those two paragraphs were taken from different interviews.]
America
When I was a child, I thought of the US as the country where KISS lives. Now it’s a place that’s good for music production. That said, I only know L.A.. Music aside, I’d call it a city of zones. Whether it’s for work or for fun, there is a certain degree of division into zones, which allows you to tell which areas are dangerous and which are safe. Therefore, although it is a functional city, you could also call it a cold city.

okay the OTHER thing I’m thinking about on this Saturday morning is that I am going to have to come to grips with the fact that there is no place to hide. everything is so much more public than I realize or want it to be. and everything I say in my teaching and my tumblr, my two favorite places to say exactly what I am feeling at any moment, will be echoed to so many other people. and that kind of makes me want to die.

More Kae thoughts on him being a parent—deffo would have his hand forced to actually tell sb about his Khaenri’ahn heritage and especially the ties his family has to the Abyss Order, bc the last thing he needs is for the Order to interfere with his life/get ahold of his kid for one reason or another. Preferably the revelation would be for a partner bc they’re easier to trust, but if he’s single at the time, then Noelle or Lisa would be most in the know alongside Adelinde.

Clearly my stamina for video games has waned DRAMATICALLY bc ive barely managed to clock 2 hours of inquisition across 2 days.
And its not like im fatigued by the gameplay or anything yet like i just got the fucking title screen lol. Like this is not a hinterlands bear moment or a fallow mire situation yet
#dragon age#my inqy is great#its in my oh so sad worldstate#basically the warden (tabris) sacrificed herself bc Alistair was to be king. she basically put him on the throne bc he swore to disolve the#alienages. and so she was like this is a future for elves etc. and she did everything she could to make the world better#her story often spared ppl the brutal details of messy fates and she always tried to fix things while staying focused on her goal#and then morrigans ritual happened and she was like. no fucking way. that sounds like a loophole for some shitfuckery#so she sacrificed herself in alistairs place but then bc he was the only warden left in fereldan he abdicated#bc he saw restoring the wardens as more important. he did make anora swear to fix the plight of elves. but ultimately nothing happened#its then my hc that alistair was the warden in awakening#and poor zevran was left grieving the warden. they got like. unofficially married before her death#which i headcanon as having taken weeks to happen as she slowly succumbed to the archdemon soul bc i love angst#and anyway then my hawke was playful and charming and desired to save whoever she could but everyone kept dying around her#just the most tragic and bloody playthrough#and in her story she never found love. except. that was varric hiding the fact that they were together#she also faked ander's death after the chantry thing#also she was a blood mage bc thats dope as fuck to me. and i also kinda hc that anders dipped into blood magic too#anyway. so my inq is gonna be the same with like. trying her hardest but not being the perfect diplomat bc people cant look past her being#an elf. and a mage.#and also im hc'ing that solas lowkey has a thing for her but shes like. dude#im so gay wtf#and then talking shit with dorian about it

@beatingheart-bride
The brothers Pace felt their own un-beating hearts ache at the thought of all those memories being lost to time, that connection to her past being permanently severed, unable to be shared in the present, yet they couldn't help but admire her perspective to the situation. While it was undeniably heartbreaking, being unable to share the memories of the past, she didn't let it weigh her down, instead appreciating the memories she'd made now, and the ones she'd make down the line. She had a spine of steel, their nephew's wife, and they respected that.
"I...I think you're very right in saying so, dearheart," Josephine smiled, similarly touched by Emily's comment, her optimism about the memories yet to be made. Clearly, she had closed that chapter of her life, and though some lingering threads remained, she hadn't let that stop her from living her afterlife to the fullest. She had a family of her own making, and as someone who at one time found herself on the outs with her parents and found solace in more like-minded company, she couldn't help but admire Emily's resolve to live her own life.
And so too could August, as the mood lightened, with the family resuming pouring over the albums and their contents: Every student he ever taught was unique in their own ways, they were their own little individuals, even at a young age, and he encouraged them to hold onto those identities they were already crafting so early on. It was nice to know that, for everything she'd faced, Emily hadn't let the world win-she was unabashedly herself, and her family loved her for it.
After a little while, Josephine suggested getting some iced tea from the kitchen, with August pitching in to lend a hand (especially when the children suggested snacks to accompany the beverages). They also invited Emily to come along, both Burke parents wanting just a moment with their grandson's wife. They both had something to say to her-perhaps it wouldn't be a surprise, given the relationship Emily had with their daughter and her husband, but to the Burkes, it still warranted saying.
