Okay, this was actually SO hard to do

Because at first i wanted to do the self titled one BUT 5 songs from it would mean half of the album so I went with Unreal Unearth (even though my faves from this album keep changing, I need to listen to it mooore)

1. De selby (part 1) - it's a perfect intro song imo, it sets the mood very well, it has Irish, it has a choir, it has a nice transition into part 2, it has everything you need

2. Damage gets done - 💗

3. Son of nyx - okay listen. I'm a sucker for intros, interludes and outros. So I love this one. It brings other songs together beautifully

4. To someone from a warm climate (uiscefhuaraithe) - it's just. His voice is so angelic and the song is simply beautiful. Cried on the first listen.

5. First light - goosebumps.

TIME - ELO: my mum's favourite album that i first Properly listened to when i was 13. it's just the best sci-fi concept album ever....i love you jeff!!

13 Tales of Love & Revenge - The Pierces: sexy indie duo, most known for the song Secret, which isn't even in the top 5 of the best songs of the album. a treasure from when i was 11, and just figuring out i like girls.

Greatest Hits - The Eagles: again, my mum's interests becoming my own. it was really hard to pick between this and Long Road Out of Eden, but ultimately the greatest hits r that for a reason.

Laurel Hell - Mitski: my fave mitski album, heat lightning is underappreciated!!! and yeah just. its about solitude. recognition but not in the way you wanted or expected. emotional rollercoaster. im not eloquent enough to describe it and mitski does it better in under 2 minutes anyway.

Strange Trails - Lord Huron: again another hard toss between this and long lost but st wins out purely bc the transitions rule, and meet me in the woods + the yawning grave make me crazyyyy. so happy i got to hear those live in jan. lord huron is like what if a cowboy was also a ghost. thats the only way i can describe it.

Electra Heart - Marina and the Diamonds: i am not immune to music i heard at 12 years old. shame she's never made anything as good as this again.

Are We Having Fun Yet? - Black/Colin Vearncombe: another one of mum's. She found this guy when someone at Sanity was playing the album over the store speakers. loved it ever since, and introduced it to me. wistful ballads, jazzy touches, a little bit sexy.

Coyote Stories - The Crane Wives: this was a 2016-18 discovery maybe? i just know i was in school. im into folk indie i cant help it.

Wasteland, Baby! - Hozier: shout out to afro-elf for posting about movement n the whole ep, which is what spurred me to actually try this dude's music. and now i love him. but wasteland baby is immaculate: no skips, he roars in some songs and is as gentle as drizzle in others.

Okay warning, this is way longer than I thought it would be! So I'm putting my answers under the cut here

For the 💕, I think this one [It Takes Two] works (ik in the source material its a song between sisters, but i read it differently for crossbones and starstruck. It's definitely a bit more high-energy and peppy than either of them actually are, but I see it more like the romantic dynamic between their heroic personas. It's all geared up to eleven--both of them have to act differently in costume.

For 👋, I like Hummingbird. The song is mostly just vibes but there's definitely lyrical significance for some aspects of their relationship, y'know? Plus, the whole scene that the song is from in Across the Spiderverse is two superheros taking time away just to spend it with eachother. Kinda perfect?

For ⚖️, Sunlight by Hozier definitely feels right. It's a sweet song, and there's significance in someone who's never known the sun ascribing it to someone in their life. Just saying :3

It is. SO HARD to find a good song for ⭐️. Maybe I should make a playlist...what do you guys think?

Anyways, Tarantula by Gorillaz. It's one of their sweeter songs, and it's about like...well, not settling for someone? More like choosing eachother even with the shit in either of their lives? Thats how i see it

Oof, I already posted a rather angsty one with another ask. For ⚫️, I think This December by Ricky Montgomery is a good one--though I almost considered another song from the same album, Snow. There's conflict, y'know, if internal--how do you separate someone you care for from someone who's sacrifice would mean so much to everyone you know? Morally, Sans is an interesting character (I'm talking largely of his Undertale iteration, but since ts underswap tries to keep things relatively unchanged in regards to personality, he also counts) because while he is someone who I'd consider a good person, he's the same guy who more than likely would've attacked frisk on sight if he wasn't such a loyal character. There's love here. There's also the persistent, nagging knowledge of what needs to be done.

And finally, ❓. For the miscellanious song, we have Stars In the Sky by Kid Cudi for the second Sonic thr Hedgehog movie. I know it's a little silly, but lyrically I consider it a fantastic song for Crossbones and Starstruck! Angel is no stranger to the villain that is being mentally ill, and being separated from everyone she knew and essentially becoming the local semi-homeless human in a place that, while very silly and kind, is still hostile to her sucks. Doing the superhero gig--or rather, participating in the saturday morning cartoon gimmicks as either Starstruck or Koffin K's Spooky Servant is a good distraction. She likes it, and she likes getting to spend time with Sans like that. In a way the Starlight Isles are something of an escape for her, a dream-like forest suspended in eternal twilight where she gets to play the hero or the villain on a whim, with no real consequences. For now.

Shane and Noah Kahan

After falling into the very deep well that is Hozier's discography thanks to Sterling, I started keeping tabs on Hozier during his Unreal Unearth tour via social media. When clips of him performing with Noah Kahan started popping up, they led me to give Noah Kahan's Stick Season (We'll All Be Here Forever) a spin.

That album caught my attention hard and fast because I fucking love a good banjo. Even more so, I love songs undergirded with deep-rooted anger and seething resentment, and good lord did that album deliver. Know who else I think of when it comes to deep-rooted anger and seething resentment?

Shane.

That underlying tension between having fond memories and a lingering love for a place you grew up in versus the anger and resentment of the fact that you're still stuck in that same place, that others escaped but you wound up back there or never even got to leave in the first place? That is what I envision lies underneath Shane's other issues with his past, his drinking, and his depression.

More detailed thoughts on individual tracks (plus potential spoilers for the Tristan mod and Choices) are underneath the cut:

"Northern Attitude" is such an excellent representation of his headspace in the early parts of the Choices.

The sense of shame and yet hope wrapped up in the kind of poor/broken family that "Come Over" elicits.... *chefs kiss*

"Homesick" feels like he's commiserating with Sterling over becoming trapped in the valley all over again, while "New Perspective" feels like an argument he'd have had with Tristan and/or Mona at one point, with him filling either side of the conversation depending on where you are in his timeline.

Of course, there are the numerous songs reflecting on past relationships, such as "All My Love," "Strawberry Wine," "Halloween," "Still," and "Your Needs, My Needs," and they all make me think of Shane's relationship with Tristan over the years, the love he bore for his best friend who instead of falling for Shane, fell for his sister. It's a bedrock of anguish and guilt that underlies his anger for Triss abandoning Mona (and in Shane's mind it was abandonment. There's no way he's dead. They never found a body. He's out there, somewhere, and Shane is left behind to do a piss-poor job of raising Triss and Mona's daughter because all he sees in her are ghosts).

Another song that makes me think on his relationship with Tristan is "Everywhere, Everything." They grew up together, first during summers as children, then as teens at the same high school, and eventually attending the same university and living together. And while Shane can't think of Tristan at all due to the pain, I attribute a certain degree of his suicidal tendencies to that desire to join both Tristan and Mona in death.

While not directly applicable, I feel "Orange Juice" captures a bit of the dynamic between Shane and Sterling after Sterling's 8-heart event. It has that tension that can occur when two people who used to indulge in the same bad habit but then one of them decides to stop–the fear the person still indulging feels of getting left behind by their friend, as well as the desire to support them and yet to also pull them back down. Because if they can escape, then that means you can too, and you're choosing to continue doing that bad habit.

There are songs that fit his later arcs as well, especially "Growing Sideways" and "Call Your Mom." And "You're Gonna Go Far" as a conversation he'd one day have with Jas.... 😭

Ironically, the song that I think best represents his relationship with Callie, "Save Me," actually comes from Kahan's debut album, Busyhead, but Stick Season (We'll All Be Here Forever) as a whole feels more representative of Shane's character in Choices.

Favorite Albums: choose 9 and then tag 9 people!

For my own sanity, I didn't include musicals because I could fill up a whole other 3x3 grid with them, and comparing musicals to non-musical theater albums is weird.

Those last 4 that you definitely don't recognize are by Old Earth who you should definitely listen to if you want artsy ambient indie folk with really intricate guitar. My absolute favorite artist by far, and also the most obscure artist I listen to by far.

Electric by The Pet Shop Boys — I think this is my favorite album period. I am still pissed off that Tom Scott called it "not that great" in the old Technical Difficulties podcast. Maybe I'm biased because it was my favorite album when I was 14 and because it's where I really fell in love with the Pet Shop Boys. God I love them. So much. I'm way too excited for the new album and I worship geowayne's website where he analyzes all their songs. I probably should have put another PSB album on here, but there isn't another where I'm in love with every track. Plus honestly so many of my favorite tracks of theirs are B sides. They still release B sides with their singles, and this album cycle, the B sides are honestly better than the actual singles. Anyway electric is pure synthy electropop and I adore it in that way you can only love something you first heard at 14.

Pure Heroine by Lorde — I read a quote somewhere where Lorde said she tried to really put all of being a teenager into the album, so much so that once she became an adult, she probably wouldn't understand or like it anymore. I can definitely say that I'm not nearly as attached to it anymore now that I'm an adult, but God, it was my life when I was 13. She really did capture the unique ennui of being a teenager. I wrote a novel in eighth grade, and I wrote at least half of it to tracks from this album. Also, hot take: Royals is my least favorite track by a lot. Buzzcut Season is my favorite.

My Head is an Animal by Of Monsters and Men — God, this one was my life when I was like, 12. I fell in love with folk there, and I'm still in love nearly a decade later. Another album where I still love every track.

Strange Trails by Lord Huron — hey look, an album I actually discovered and came to love as an adult! The fact that I love Lord Huron's brand of folky horror/fantasy/western music that tell stories with characters should not surprise anyone. Also, if I had to describe my experience with schizophrenia in one song, I'd choose Meet Me in the Woods.

The Tragic Treasury by The Gothic Archies — Look. Hear me out. Is it a album based purely on A Series of Unfortunate Events? Yes. But. Is it also an album where I genuinely love every track and have genuinely been known to just throw it on shuffle? Yes. I mean I think of one lyric from this album, like, weekly. I swear it's not just ASOUE brainrot that makes me like it so much. If it'd ever gotten a vinyl release, I'd absolutely own it. I wish it had gotten one.

a low place at The Old Place by Old Earth — honestly this is probably only my favorite Old Earth album because it's the one that I was able to actually get on vinyl and being able to play that vinyl is so lovely. I mean, it's good, but so is everything by Old Earth. Then again, Less Words is my favorite single track by them and it is on this album. Look. All the Old Earth albums I've listed here are, at most, 20 minutes long. If you like ambient artsy indie folk with lyrics that are there more for the way they sound than their meaning, try one.

light shaped by Old Earth — god the lyrics to this one. Normally I don't like Old Earth for the lyrics but. "It gets old/then it's done" and "what if it's just some song that gets you home" and especially "I'm holding your arms/and you're holding my eyes/and I lie like the right thing to do" are all just so great. And so is the middle track with no lyrics.

... until they're called by Old Earth — have you ever heard an album so good that you a) just played the whole thing and danced to it in your basement nonstop for the full 12 minutes, and then b) wrote a poem about the experience? People talk about finding God, but dancing to that album was the moment I found athiesm. The beauty of us all being here for no reason, just feeling things and living and doing our best to make something beautiful out of it.

Two Torches, at a Place Where Three Roads Meet by Old Earth — I'll be honest, I don't have much to say about this one. They're just a really solid three tracks.

... Yeah okay I really like Old Earth. Don't judge me.

picking only five songs is so hard but i've managed to (somehow) done it by separating them into kategories so here it goes!!

category 1: k-pop/c-pop. i managed to narrow this down to just Yixing's songs (surprise surprise) and my final pick is Ambush from his Producer album (2021)! i fell in love with that song pretty much from the first listen but i've also been revisiting it a lot lately. the whole album in general is amazing with quite a lot of repeating motifs all over but Ambush is definitely me favourite. ^_^

category 2: english. am torn between me personal holy trinity of Florence + The Machine, Hozier, and All Time Low (one of this is not like the rest), but ultimately i guess i'll have to go with All Time Low's Stay Awake (Dreams Only Last For A Night) from their 2008 album So Wrong, It's Right. that song has been my faithful companion through thick and thin since i was a kid so like. i have to choose it.

category 3: indonesian. alkfjkladjf HELP this one's the hardest to pick but ... Sandhy Sondoro's Malam Biru from his self titled album released in the distant past of 2010 -- that's me final answer. i guess it's more of a jazz-y song? alkdj idk much about genres so if you were to tell me am waaaayyy off i won't even be surprised. me favourite thing about this song has to be Sondoro's voice; it feels kinda rough but in a crunchy way. if you try listening to it you'll prolly get what i mean (... or not, lmfao).

category 4: vintage. the late Solomon Burke's Cry To Me (Rock 'n Soul, 1964) babeeeeeeeyyyy. i can't not dance whenever the song plays. found the song the first time on The Man from U.N.C.L.E movie's soundtrack and it hasn't ever left me playlist since. i absolutely adore this song and i absolutely love Burke's voice. i love his voice so much i want to materialise it, liquify it, then inject it into my bloodstream. listening to his voice is not enough i need it to be infused with me DNA. I LOVE HIS VOICE A LOT. i love his voice a normal amount.

category 5: instrumental. Radio Protector by 65daysofstatic, from the album One Time For All Time (2006), definitely. that's the entire essence of me soul captured within the confines of a less than four minutes song. (is it a less than four minutes song? i think it's less than four minutes am pretty sure.) look, forget MBTI and zodiac and all of that, you want to get a reading of me just listen to this song. you'll probably get the picture, and likely a pretty accurate one at that.

honestly id l o v e too because i love plants but,,, im kinda horrible at taking care of them though still way better than the majority of my family (research helps) so the only plant i own is kinda a small-palm-tree-looking thing in a bigass glass jar that i saved from my mother’s plant-destructing hands and its mostly doing well (the ends of its leaves are starting to be yellow tho and im worried:((( )

okay im gonna be completely honest with yall and say that my every single try at keeping a journal failed spectacularly and i lost motivation after like a few months so my only journals rn are my fancy fake-leather-bound calendar to note tests and assessments into, a kinda roughed up notebook that i uses for noting down poems or scribbling or passing notes in class, and a kinda fancy bullet journal notebook that i used as a book of shadows for a while but since my fountain pen died i didnt touch it

i am so not a morning person but i wish i could be because honestly dawns are beautiful

but as it is rn im either sleep deprived all the time and loathe every second of being in an awake state or (if i have a few days of schoolbreak) my biological clock moves forward a few hours and i sleep 2am-10am

except for the fact that i dont remember the last time it happened, i would probably spend it drawing outside, watching anime with my sister and riding a bike around the forest

i love sunrises because its so peaceful and everyone is asleep but also i subconsciously immediately correlate them with waiting for a train to take me to school (because thats basically the only time i see them) so its a bittersweet love especially with my fucked up biological clock

but sunsets are really really pretty too and i see them more often so i cant choose

okay so basically my two favourite stuffed animals (i still have them, they sit in my wardrobe) were two teddy bears (like maybe 20cm high each of them) and one was pure brown and the other was silver-brown and they had stereotypical polish male names “Waldek” (read. Valdek) and Stefan (i think tho im not sure if i remember correctly, my memory is a feeble thing sometimes

i always liked the kora/persephone myth (though demeter is an overbearing parent to the nth power), loki and thor crossdressing at a party to get mjolnir back, atalanta because shes a queen and id politely ask her to kick my ass, and cassandra because she deserved better, and theres a l o t more because alas i was a mythology nerd but this post is long enough for me not to make this section 20 times longer sjjsjsjsjsjks

but there are a lot of slavic myths that are very cool too, though we dont know that much about them as about the greeks for example

o o o o h yeah i do like poetry because to create such a beautifully sounding thing with only words someone has to be a genius

some of my favs are: some works of nakahara chuuya (thank u bsd for introducing me to this man’s beautiful imagery in his works i swear to god the descriptions do it for me) (also his poem about having hangovers is a mood like i feel you buddy), the raven by ea poe (i know everyone likes it but hOLY DAMN THE INTER/INTRAVERSE RHYMES ARE LIKE,,, BREATHTAKING) (and aso im a slut for gothic horror), and many more but also That One Poem From Welcome To Nightvale about reaching the island in the west,,, only perfect vibes from it

63 - are you fussy about your books and music? do you keep them meticulously organised or kinda leave them be?

okay heres the thing. for anyone else both my playlist library and my bookshelf would be considered pure chaos of a mad man b u t they actually have a highly focused system which means that i sort them based on their vibes, lovability and (in case of books) their age and whether or not theyre a part of a series so i would say my bookshelf is rather organised (when a quarter of it isnt occupying my desk that is) and my music is more organised than not but sometimes it gets out of control and i have to sort it entirely again

66 - what would your ideal flower crown look like?

either entirely constructed of simple white daisies, entirely constructed of only white roses, or something that probably would win a “how many different coloured flowers can one fit in a flower crown” competition

I cannot even begin to explain how much this album means to me and how much it has helped me. When I was at my worst this album help me get back on my feet and... well I don’t want to get all sad and sappy but I’ll just say that I wouldn’t be here without it. I owe them everything and I’m glad I found them when I needed to.

this ended up being long and angsty i am sorry . if u want i can analyze songs from his other album in a happier way to even it out lol

“when i first saw you / the end was soon” - audrey and bruce met on the helicarrier and i think when they fought in new york they both knew they might not come out of it.  audrey was inexperienced and way out of her depth, bruce was really against turning back into the hulk again.  

“Give your heart and soul to charity / ‘Cause the rest of you, the best of you / Honey, belongs to me” - they both give parts of themselves away for the greater good and feel most human with each other

“Nothing fucks with my baby / Nothing can get a look in on my baby / Nothing fucks with my baby / Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing” - when hozier wrote this song everyone thought it was about how nothing fucks with his baby because he protects her but he said actually nobody fucks with her because she’s extraordinarily powerful and scary.  i think both of these apply to braudrey—nobody fucks with bruce because audrey protects him, and nobody fucks with the hulk because he’s giant and terrifying

i would place this one as post aou when audrey thinks bruce is dead.  

“i’m almost me again, she’s almost you” - after a bit, she starts dating again but she’s still very much grieving and hung up on him 

“i wouldn’t know where to start / sweet music playin’ in the dark / be still my foolish heart / don’t ruin this on me” - audrey becomes good friends with wanda and pietro after age of ultron and they haven’t been around long but they ask her to talk about it because she sits in her room playing the same song every day and crying and they’re like … ?

“I got some colour back, she thinks so, too / I laugh like me again, she laughs like you” - i think this is just audrey letting herself be close to people again. it’s not the same but it’s not so lonely

“I still watch you when you're groovin’” so this song i think is about like someone dancing and being really seductive and sexy but this reminds me of bruce watching audrey dancing really terribly w tony at every avengers function.  audrey literally cannot dance for shit and it’s endearing to bruce 

“When you move / I can recall somethin' that's gone from me / When you move / Honey, I'm put in awe of somethin' so flawed and free” - i think bruce gets kind of fixated on watching audrey spar and fight; like partially because it’s hot but also because he sees her as very powerful and finds it magnetizing

“for starts / what a waste to say the heart could feel apart / or feel complete, baby” - audrey and bruce reunite on sakaar and it’s a very emotional scene; it’s a waste to say the heart could feel apart because she knows she’s not less without him but there’s this understanding, this thing that’s been off that’s finally righted when they’re back together

“My heart is thrilled by the still of your hand / That's how I know now that you understand” - this applies to a very specific moment in ragnarok before they go to fight hela where audrey puts her hand over bruce’s and he looks at her and she’s unable to tell him that if they die right now she loves him but he knows anyway

“There's no plan / There's no race to be run / The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun / There's no plan / There's no kingdom to come / I’ll be your man if you got love to get done / Sit in and watch the sunlight fade / Honey, enjoy, it's gettin' late / There's no plan / There's no hand on the rein / As Mack explained, there will be darkness again” - so this is all very apocalyptic and not to flex but i was at a concert and hozier talked about this line and how the whole song was written about the doomsday clock and a time when it was closer to zero than ever; it’s a song about throwing caution into the wind at the end of the world and i think that’s fitting.  there’s a period where audrey realizes that they’re not gonna beat thanos, and that the snap is gonna happen, and she takes a breath and notices everything around her and just thinks about how she’s lucky to have had it at all.

“You know when it's twelve o'clock in Soho, baby / It's gin o'clock where I'll wake up, I don't know / And I think about you though everywhere I go / And I've done everything and I've been everywhere, you know” - this just reminds me of when audrey is away on missions and bruce is still at the base; she’s been everywhere in the world because she’s been alive for so long and she’s been around for a lot; the one thing she’s most grateful for her lifetime to have coincided with though is bruce 

 “i’ve had no love like your love / from nobody” - this is just them lol they understand each other on another level

“I'd be appalled if I saw you ever try to be a saint / I wouldn't fall for someone I thought couldn't misbehave” - this is audrey 2 bruce … she would be appalled if he ever tried to get rid of the hulk for good; i think that it’s such a significant part of how they see and understand each other 

“If I had the choice between hearing either noise: The excitement of a thousand or the soothing of your voice / At first chance, I'd take the bed warmed by the body” - they just choose each other.  they choose to be with each other.  this reminds me of the “give your heart and soul to charity” line in nfwmb because it’s like if they had to be heroes without each other they wouldn’t be happy

there’s a conversation bruce and audrey have at the safehouse in age of ultron where bruce is saying he doesn’t feel the same since wanda fucked with his head bc of the vision he had, and he’s worried abt whether or not audrey can continue to care for him when the chaos the hulk created wasn’t for any good or if she’s changed her mind and she has to assure him that she hasn’t; there are a lot of lines from this song that remind me of that

-“whatever’s here that’s left of me / is yours just as it was”

-“Just as it was, baby / Before the otherness came / And I knew its name / The drug, the dark, / The light, the flame” 

-“its holds had the fight of my baby / and the lights were s bright as my baby / but your love was unmoved”

so audrey has a really really hard time saying i love you after bruce leaves at the end of aou, to anyone—she says it to steve maybe once, but she can’t say it besides that one time, and it’s part of why she’s so torn up about peggy dying because she didn’t tell her she loved her enough in the months leading up to her death.  

but also, when bruce comes back, audrey still can’t muster up the ability to say them out loud, and so at the end of infinity war, she’s left without telling any of the people she loves that she loves them.  when she comes back in endgame, she’s able to overcome that to tell them.  this song reminds me of that 

“I couldn't utter my love when it counted / Ah, but I'm singing like a bird 'bout it now” - this is when she comes back

“The words hung above / But never would form / Like a cry at the final breath that is drawn / Remember me love when I'm reborn / As the shrike to your sharp / And glorious thorn” - this is both; she couldn’t say it, but she’s “reborn” during endgame and she realizes that the worst has already happened countless times; there’s nothing else to be afraid of that she hasn’t survived

“Then when I met you, my virtues uncounted / All of my goodness is going with you now” - this is just audrey when bruce leaves

“All the things yet to come are the things that have passed / Like the holding of hands, like the breaking of glass / Like the bonfire that burns / That all words in the fight fell to” - everything that has happened has led them to this moment; loki, ultron, hydra, etc. without that they wouldn’t have each other, but they also probably wouldn’t be dealing with this mess.  it’s not good or bad, it’s just the way things went.

“And I love too, that love soon might end / Be known in its aching / Shown in the shaking / Lately of my wasteland, baby” - they know it’s over before it’s over; they can tell what’s going to happen before it happens, and they’re just paralyzed in that moment

“And that day that we'll watch the death of the sun / To the cloud and the cold and those jeans you have on / And you'll gaze unafraid as they sob from the city roofs” - in the years after the snap, bruce has the most vivid dream almost every night where audrey’s . like . ghost comes to him and takes him to the top of a hill and they watch the world end around them.  it’s terrible and every time he wakes up he misses it.  

“When the stench of the sea and the absence of green” - ok lol this just reminds me of how the hulk wouldn’t come fight at the end of infinity war 

“Are the death of all things that are seen and unseen / Are an end but the start of all things that are left to do” - the world ends; half of everything is dead; but they’re still left.  bruce and steve and everyone have to go on living still.  

“Wasteland, baby / I'm in love, I'm in love with you / (That's it)” - this abruptness just reminds me a lot of the snap; that’s it.  there’s no going back.

What is your favorite genre of music? Why?

whatever hozier is, honestly. but also my favorite genre is what ive deemed ‘throw rocks at houses’ music, which consists of marina and the diamonds, judas by lady gaga, doja cat, and old rock music that used to play in early 2010s edgy warrior cats amvs. i feel like i tend to like angsty music bc i express and analyze my emotions via music taste at the time. i Project

What’s an art project you’ve made that you’re proud of?

do fics count. uhhhhh honestly a lot of my writing for certain fics is nice. ive improved a lot over the years, but an upcoming sonic au im working on is lookin delicious

Do you have a favorite album/podcast to put on in the background while you work or study?

funny this question is asked bc im the person to listen to One Song only while working. right now its from eden by hozier, and its usually hozier. songs of his like blood, almost music, and someone new are my go-tos.

If you could become the protagonist/antagonist of any media franchise, which one would you pick and why?

this is a hard choice between sonic and pokemon. however, if i had to stay human in the sonic franchise, i would go for pokemon. give me morally gray rival trainer rights. also i want to hug an aggron.

Can you play any instruments? which ones?

i tried to master the recorder in elementary school, and i quickly gave up on the ukulele when it was Cool in 7th grade. so, no.

Do you collect anything? If so, what?

i dont have the luxury of collecting much right now, but i have amassed a bunch of old-reliable books. my marked up and dogeared copies of IT and the goldfinch are very dear to me. also one day i hope to acquire an army of those little mexican handpainted turtles. the one i had for years broke : (

as a spotify user, my playlists vary in length. my most recent playlist has 24 songs, but my longest has 101 songs. the runner up was my byler playlist with 74 songs jesus christ.

If you could live anywhere in the world, and at any time in history, where and when would you choose?

im gonna sound sappy but its about 1:30am and im listening to hozier. i wanna live in the pacific northwest during a time when things are finally okay. or maybe some place nice during the renaissance or baroque period.

Have you ever performed live in front of an audience?

i have! i did musicals in middle school and early high school.

For Dead Water, 1, 3, 8, 11, 13?

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

Honestly it just happened. It was supposed to be a wild swashbuckling pirate au with swordfights and storms and an OT3 and a couple of OCs that I’m very fond of, but the moment I sat down to actually write it all that went out the window. I suppose it’s a little inspired by Digging Up Bones, because that was a very special writing experience and they were both written in much the same away. And a little bit by the last quarter of Margaret Atwood’s Surfacing. And Hozier’s ‘In a Week’. And one Harry Potter AU where Remus uses a necromantic blood ritual to resurrect Sirius. And a very slight dash of an idea or two from His Dark Materials.

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

Oh man it’s so hard to choose. There are so many that I deeply love but they’re highly spoilery and most of them more for the scenes they’re attached to than their own artistic merits.

If I had to choose one that stands on it’s own merit, this is definitely high on my list of faves:

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

Not as such. I’ve done some reading in the past about pre-Christian societies, so I suppose that would have been a bit of an inspiration. Most of it just developed organically out of the idea of there being blood rituals, and then different rituals came out of that

11: What do you like best about this fic?

I love the rituals so much, but I think my favourite thing is the sensuality of touch between Erik and Christine. How it starts as an impulsive thing, and then becomes something they rely on and incorporate into rituals, and then becomes it’s own sacred thing. I just really love the sensuality in it

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

Hozier’s self-titled album, specifically ‘In a Week’ and ‘Work Song’. The Cranberries, Everybody Else is Doing It, So Why Can’t We and No Need to Argue (complete sessions of both). Florence + the Machine, Ceremonials, specifically the song ‘Heartlines’. Mumford & Sons, Delta, but in particular ‘October Skies’. The Decemberists, ‘Red Right Ankle’.

I listened to all of them and wrote it down for future reference, but Hozier and ‘Heartlines’ were the biggies

LMFAO I’ve made a mistake i didn’t read ahead, so I’ll choose Trench for my favourite album.

the entire album is my favourite I think it’s a tie between Morph, Legend and Pet Cheetah. Morph is a Big BPD bop imo, Legend reminds me of my grandfather every damn time I hear it, and Pet Cheetah has an INCREDIBLE live vibe and I cannot unhear the smoke machines exploding whenever I listen to it now.

5. Favourite 5 songs of the year?

ok here i’ll do a song from each of the albums above bc i don’t have any other songs i really enjoyed i think (and so it’s 6 now rip sorry!!)

Life Party! This is literally my favourite song: it’s funky, it’s joyful, and it’s exactly what I needed in a year that kicked my fucking ass.

Colossus and Cry to Me: v good songs with very powerful messages. I love CtM’s message of men being there for one another to be a shoulder to cry on. It’s lovely.

GEYSER. GEYSER GEYSER GEYSER. Geyser is an INCREDIBLE fucking song and I get so hype every time. The build up, the bizarre almost white noise-y intro, the power in her vocals!!! god. mitski is a goddess honestly

The song the album is named after, Bambi. I feel like it’s really relatable and that’s kinda something I extremely needed in 2018. I love how sad and calm it is. It’s also a bop, lmao

Trying Not To Die (featuring Dennis Hamm!): this is Another Big Mood song, and it’s definitely tied with When You’re Ugly, but I think I prefer TNTD. Louis Cole is another rare artist where I can listen to a whole album and just be super impressed by the entire thing & love every song so this was difficult, lmao.

Shrike! Shrike is uncontested champion of the EP for me. It’s kinda like a spiritual successor to Cherry Wine, which is an incredibly bittersweet and depressing song, and Shrike has… I don’t know. It’s got that same sort of bittersweet vibe, except it feels more hopeful to me? Ugh.
