okay soooo I've listened to the šta bih ja snippet probably about a hundred times now (which is... a totally normal amount of times if you ask me 😭) and I have some thoughts/analysis I wanted to share 🥰 (GCSE music finally coming in handy...)

the first thing I noticed was how clean it sounds?! like, I knew it would since we're all used to just hearing phone recordings from the live performances, but it really sounds polished!

in the opening riff, it appears that the little high-pitched trills that I think Kris plays are gone? 🥲 not sure why they didn't make it into the studio version, maybe it appears later in the song? but I kinda miss it when I listen :(

I LOVE the bass line!!!!! it's so prominent and jumpy, I feel like it really adds bounce and groove to the song and it's pretty unique! Nace definitely added his sparkle to the song with it ✨️

the drums in the verses are so goooood, it keeps it upbeat and interesting, leading on to the next vocal line so seamlessly! I'm in love

in the studio version, Bojan's voice sounds so... smooth? I know it's meant to cos it's recorded in a studio afterall, but after hearing the song live so much, I feel like you can tell the difference a lot easier. it's not necessarily a bad thing, but I have to say I do like the extra roughness to his voice when he performs live, and especially the little growl on "dok na oči mi pada MRRRRAK!" that (sadly) doesn't appear to be in this version

the high-pitched guitar slide before "a ja sasvim sam" tickles my brain 😌

also, on the "a ja sasvim sam", it sounds like maybe all of them are in the background of the vocal speaking it whilst Bojan sings it. I think that's really interesting and definitely highlights the line to make it stand out, especially as the instrumental momentarily stops during it

I absolutely adore Kris coming in with the higher backing vocals on "sladak i drag", it's so nice to listen to!

the strumming at the end of the snippet is so fun, it's a really nice change in instrumentation leading up to the chorus

finally, the snippet cuts out right before the chorus buuuut I actually feel like it's going to really pick up from there! there's more of a hint of urgency in Bojan's voice beginning to creep through, and I really like that the emotion seems to climax at the chorus because I feel like that's how it should be with the song

overall... I really love it and wish it was 12th July already so I can hear it in full AAAAAA I'm so excited!!!

Groningen (Part 1) 17.01.24 (Part 2)

a partial gig report or also known as an agglomeration of thoughts I'm currently having

Bojan being a bit tense at the beginning of the showcase

all front rows completely slaying it and Bojan visbily relaxing knowing that there's fans present (we were like. 20 or something?)

"You guys suck!" -> to the general audience because they were confused by the screaming part in ssol

"Not you, you're doing great!" -> to us in the front rows

they only had forty minutes so they pretty much rushed through most of the songs without any real banter between

Bojan: "I'm not gonna speak too much because I don't have anything smart to say"

People singing a Dutch birthday song for Kris and Bojan being like "🤨 what's that. okay?" meanwhile Kris just said "thank you 🥰" and moved on

Nace deliberately smacking his head into Jan's shoulder during Tokio. Yeah idk what he was thinking

Bojan saying that they planned to play New Wave instead of Novi Val but seeing that there were so many fans they were gonna play the Slovenian version instead

(when we asked Nace later when they decided to change it, he seemed a bit confused and said "I don't think we ever played New Wave" so, Bojan might've just been talking nonsense.)

Nace, Kris and later Bojan coming out from the backstage area after the gig and being gifted the potato masher! then they went back inside and recorded the instagram story

Directly afterwards they went back outside to the front of the venue and chatted with people for a bit

Nace talking. a lot. favourite moments were when he started justifying why he only had an ugly beanie ("I have so many cute hats but I could only find this ugly one in my pocket"), when he pointed out my Kris sweater ("Hey! You're wearing the Kris sweater!), confirming that Kris still has it somewhere and that the holes were made by their former stylist

Apparently they were also thinking about playing the new song but decided not to 🙄

Kris in person is so awkward in a funny way. Picking up from Nace's info we talked about his sweater, he awkwardly thanked me for buying it? I then gave an awkward response back and said that it was on sale, so no worries. good times! never talking to him again 🫠

Since everyone knew that they were gonna play at the record store the day after, it was a very weird "okay, see you tomorrow!" between everyone

He may not have known him for very long, but Jan has never seen Nace this nervous before. Yes, he had been shy when they first met (though Jan was shyer), yes he had been on edge before his first gig with them, yes he’d been quiet in the studio while they were recording Carpe Diem. Now, though, he isn’t tense and reticent, as he usually is when he’s anxious. No; he’s pacing up and down in the heavy silence of the RTV’s dressing room wringing his hands, jumping every time any of the others say or do anything, fiddling with the hem of his jacket, smoothing down his hair obsessively. These are nervous tics Jan has never seen from him before and it’s making him restless too. Watching Nace, he is filled with the urge to go over and wrap him in a crushing hug, as though he can leech away all his stress and anticipation with one touch.

Jan is used to taking comfort in Nace’s presence. He knows too that Nace takes comfort in him. They’ve been slowly exploring the something between them for the past few months, unable to hold back despite the knowledge that entering a relationship with a bandmate can get messy. He doesn’t want to rush things, doesn’t want to rock the boat, to overstep a boundary and cause an explosion. But he can’t sit here and watch Nace get more and more wound up with nerves just as they’re meant to go on stage.

Before he’s quite decided what the plan is, Jan suddenly finds himself standing. The other four all turn to face him and he almost shrinks under the combined weight of their attention, but he’s desperate for a moment alone with Nace, so he steels himself and gestures vaguely at Bojan, Kris, and Jure.

“You three, out,” he says abruptly, not quite able to make eye contact with any of them. He expects some kind of resistance, perhaps from Bojan, but they all obey him without a word, and he watches them leave in his peripheral vision from where he’s looking at the floor. There are a few brief moments after the door swings closed behind Kris in which neither Jan nor Nace say anything, and then Jan turns around. 

Nace looks somehow even more nervous now it’s just the two of them; he’s holding onto the back of the chair next to him as though he might fall over without its support. At the sight of him, Jan no longer has any qualms about what is needed and he crosses the floor without a word to gather Nace into his arms. Nace relaxes into him immediately, holding him tightly back, tipping his head down so his forehead is resting on Jan’s shoulder. They stand like this for several minutes, impossibly close and yet not close enough. Jan hopes that Nace is as calmed and reassured by the contact, by Jan’s warmth and familiar smell, as Jan is by him. He only loosens his grip when Nace stops shaking and steps back far enough that they can see each other’s faces, though he keeps his arms slung around Nace’s neck so he can’t pull too far away.

“Want to talk about it?”

Nace opens his mouth to answer but can’t find the words. Jan doesn’t interrupt, just gives Nace time to formulate what he’s trying to say. It takes a few long minutes, but eventually Nace is able to articulate himself. “It’s the first project I’ve worked on with you guys,” he says slowly, eyes downcast. “What if the fans don’t like my influence on your sound? What if they don’t think I fit your image?”

Jan leans in and bumps his forehead reassuringly against Nace’s. “Fuck the fans,” he says lowly, and it startles a laugh out of Nace. The sound makes something twist in Jan’s stomach. He loves hearing Nace laugh, loves the way he has so much joy to share and isn’t afraid of expressing it. “I mean it,” he repeats. “We like the way you create with us, we love this song. If our current fans don’t like it or don’t like you, then fuck them; we’ll make plenty of new fans through Eurovision.” 

Neither of them are as ambitious as Bojan and Kris are regarding fame or global exposure, but they all decided to go on this journey knowing that was the plan. Jan’s always been in it for the music; the unparalleled joy of creating music, those magical moments on stage when he becomes the music. But he can’t let Nace be afraid of their Eurovision journey before it’s even started.

Nace is still anxious and Jan can tell. He wants to address the other question Nace had posed, to reassure him, but now it’s his turn to be tongue tied and nervous. He wants to tell Nace how attractive he is, how his smile makes Jan’s heart skip a beat, that he wants to map Nace’s skin with his tongue and teeth, that he’s desperate to learn how to take him apart with just a few touches. But they’re taking it slow, trying not to rush into things, even though Jan knows his traitorous heart isn’t listening to reason.

So he does the only thing he can to ensure his tongue won’t betray his feelings; he steps back into Nace’s personal space and kisses him fiercely.

No matter how many times they kiss, Jan knows he will never tire of it. His entire universe at this moment is the heat of Nace’s mouth, the taste of him, the way he’s threading his fingers through Jan’s hair and sliding a hand down his back to pull him closer. Nace is pliant under Jan’s hands and tongue, willing to cede all control and let Jan do what he wants to him, and what Jan wants is to take him apart, to make him forget all traces of his nervousness for their upcoming performance. But they’re in their shared dressing room, where their bandmates or frankly anyone else could walk in, and as desperately as he wants to let go of all his inhibitions, he knows that would be far too reckless, and so, reluctantly, he pulls away. They’re both panting and a little unsteady on their feet, and Jan opens his eyes to take in Nace’s flushed cheeks and kiss-bruised lips. Willpower alone stops him from leaning back in to finish what they’ve started, and he can see clearly in Nace’s face the same desire.

“Was that a good enough distraction?” Jan asks, his voice unexpectedly husky.

“It wasn’t bad,” Nace admits breathlessly, and Jan can hear the smile in his voice. After a few long moments, Nace releases his tight grip on Jan’s shirt and steps back far enough that they can see themselves in the mirror. All Jan can think is that they’re lucky they haven’t gone to hair and make-up yet; they’re both so dishevelled that it’s obvious what they’ve been up to even without any telltale traces of smudged foundation. Nace reaches up to smooth down Jan’s hair again, and Jan leans instinctively into his touch. “I think we’ve got a different problem now,” Nace says wryly, and Jan is inclined to agree. Bojan, Kris, and Jure will surely be back any moment now and they’ll be sent off to hair and make-up; they can only hope their racing hearts will have time to slow before they’re called on stage.

Groningen (Part 2) 18.01.24 (Part 1)

Joker Out was the fourth band scheduled to play in the record store today and I have to say the other artists were also so nice to listen to 🔥🔥

Bojan apparently had a look inside the store to see how many people were already there before leaving again

When the guys arrived the security guard pressured us all into taking a group picture with them? I am still not sure why tbh but it's a nice picture, I guess

Speaking of clothes, Kris's new sweater!! Later, he said it's like the one with holes just without the black. And without the holes. (awkward babygirl, honestly.)

They soundchecked Tokio and everyone started singing along!! the guys looked really happy about it

They started like ten minutes earlier than they were slated to and also finished ten minutes earlier. when Bojan came down after the last song I said to him that they still had ten minutes left and at first he was like "yeah? I don't know" but then said that they had to leave a bit early to catch their flight back to London

Bojan was amazing. Like of course he was also good on stage yesterday but today, oh my god. he had such power over the entire audience in the record store the very second he walked on stage. honestly fascinating, especially compared to the showcase

Yesterday after the showcase, Kris said that it was going to be an acoustic set, Bojan however called it semi-acoustic today

He started their set by saying something like: "Of course we didn't rehearse it, so we're just gonna wing it. I believe it's gonna be a little more cowboy-ish."

Bojan not even knowing the first song they were gonna play and turning around to ask the band 🥰🥰

People requested vem da greš and Bojan was like "wasn't planned but yeah, we'll figure it out!" and when they played it he told us off for clapping the rhythm wrong

Kris ngvot!! He was so smiley throughout the gig and during ngvot and yeah I think he really enjoyed being in the Netherlands

All the songs they played sounded amazing. Like of course they're an incredible live band but they were so in their element today, it was a stunning thing to witness

They took their time again to talk to us after the gig, Nace requested taking a selfie with the crowd (post it, you coward) and then also them talking to everyone waiting outside before leaving

The crowd was so nice and respectful and asked every member before hugging them and taking photos, thank you Dutchies (and the few other Germans we saw ig)

i love loveeeee your bokris asks! so let's keep the party going shall we ✨ from what i've been reading in fanfiction about them it's always either bojan being totally oblivious about the whole thing and getting his oh. oh reaction only when he's told about kris' feelings straightforwardly and then he's like so THAT'S what this is about and that's what i've been feeling too OR it's both of them knowing but never acting on it but what do you think about kris being the oblivious one instead like being in love with bojan the whole time but never realizing it properly until some time and first mistaking it for despise for some prick playing his father's song with distortion for some reason and then mistaking it for admiration and wanting to be like bojan (not wanting to be with him) while bojan is in love too but totally aware of that and just being hurt about kris kinda not liking him at first and then getting girlfriend after girlfriend after girlfriend with all these relationships never working out in the end (i wonder why...). i've been thinking about that a lot lately tbh and these gifs with bojan looking at kris with heart eyes and kris being like whatever are just not helping lmao and at the same time kris WILL be like whatever and then bluntly and without a second of thinking say the most adorable things about bojan like. likeeeeeee. i'm sorry for the rant i hope that makes at least any sense 💕

(gonna put this under the cut because it got pretty long)

firstly, I LOVE the idea of Kris being the oblivious one and I agree with you in feeling like it could suit them both so well. at first, Kris would be unimpressed with Bojan because of the whole distortion saga, and maybe his first impression would be just like you said - thinking that he's a prick (and wouldn't it be ironic if Bojan had the same thought about Kris initially too 🤭). but then as he gets to know Bojan, suddenly he actually seems interested in Kris as a person rather than just as his father's son, and after some time he becomes super touchy and clingy and Kris just thinks it's... odd.

fast forward some more time when they're more established as a band, and that's when I imagine Kris' admiration could come into play. watching Bojan on stage fills him with such awe because it really seems like it's what he was born to do, and he's damn good at it. but when Bojan begins to play up his mannerisms and direct them at Kris, it surely doesn't mean anything... right? Bojan's just like that, and it certainly never crosses Kris' mind that what he feels towards Bojan is anything other than friendship..........

and then the second thing you mentioned!!! I love that so much too. as oblivious as Kris is, the one person who immediately sees right through him is whoever his current girlfriend is at that time. Kris always thinks it's ridiculous and doesn't really see where they're coming from, but he never actually tells Bojan the real reason he keeps getting broken up with because, well. he's not quite sure why. but it maybe has something to do with the strange sense of embarrassment he feels for absolutely no reason at all... 👀

(and as a bonus because I'm thinking about this a lot now too, here's how I think their conversation could potentially go when Kris *eventually* gets his shit together)

"so, why did you get broken up with this time?"

"the same reason as always."
