Living in the hell-mitten has killed my sense of humor.
#As soon as I go to visit with people who are not Michiganders I can suddenly laugh and make jokes again#it’s something LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE non-Michigander who has the misfortune of ending up here mentions when I bring up culture shock#I was talking to a boy from out West today about what it was like to come here from Texas and he was like “these people don’t understand”#“They cannot comprehend when I’m joking”#And that has been my exact experience#There is no word-play for one (which is my favorite form of humor)#(Think P G Wodehouse or Mark Twain)#And their grasp of sarcasm and irony are…basically non-existent#You cannot be subtle#Or they will misunderstand
