It’s weird to grow up in a family where you know you’re loved but you don’t feel loved. And then later in adulthood you understand how almost impossible it seems to cross that distance and let yourself experience closeness, how otherworldly love feels now and how love feels unbearable at times. You flinch when someone tries to wholeheartedly love you. And over and over you see so clearly how you cannot be loved unless it's from afar and love is mixed with that familiar sensation of distance and coldness.

i feel like we as a society don’t ever let girls have interests. i know this is a subject of discourse that’s been talked about before or something but i saw something on instagram that reminded me about the whole situation.

like remember 2019 when the trend was vsco girl and if you wore a t-shirt slightly oversized or if you had a metal water bottle that looked too similar to or was a hydroflask or if someone wore a friendship bracelet she’d get shit on for doing so.

or in 2020 when the trend was tiktok egirl. like yes it was cringe but why couldn’t we let girls do funky makeup and lip sync to cringey tiktok audios.

or the recent stanley trend of 2022/2023 where they were ugly and then they were cute and men started to make videos lugging around trash cans with larger than life straws in mockery of women. men who have the “girly stanley” with the handle are called gay and asked how their boyfriend is (i have evidence of this, i am a witness to this.)

even the trend of being preppy or being a sephora kid, like we’re not even letting little girls enjoy things without criticism and yes while sephora kids are obnoxious and they ruin testers, little girls still deserve to have fun.

and maybe some slack could be cut with the argument that all of these trends that happened to be driven by women have all contributed to rampant consumerism and the upholding of capitalistic ideals or some equivalent bullshit, but that argument isn’t present in the vast majority of criticism. like it’s literally all “females when they [insert something women enjoy here]”

it’s misogynistic and lame and tacky and people need to just leave women alone
