The roommate
Surprise! Happy Halloween/Diwali/Dia de los muertos everyone!
Credits to @tojishugetiddies for giving me a base idea. Thanks, sweetie ☺️!
This is just a two-parter, so I’m releasing part 1 today and then part 2 tomorrow on Halloween itself.
Also, side note: I came up with the Optimus Prime idea before I went to watch the Transformers One movie, but I can’t recommend it enough!!! It’s SO GOOD 😭😭😭😭😭!!!
Original story
BONUS Halloween story!
Part 1
Part 2
Warnings: none.
----------------------------------------------------------
Roommate!Miguel who walks down the stairs in his costume.
Your neighbourhood was notorious for doing a big blowout celebration for Halloween and just like you always had, you loved dressing up for it. Your kids were old enough this year to go trick-or-treating with their friends, but you didn’t mind staying at home to hand out candy with Miguel- it gave you a chance to admire the other kids’ outfits and also left you with some alone time to get up to a little ‘trick-or-treating’ of your own with your big, strong husband … 🤭
You rip open a packet of sweets and pour the contents into one of the large bowls in front of you and your son takes advantage of the opportunity to snatch a sweet as he walks past. You tsk at him in irritation, but Rio just shrugs and pulls out his phone as he takes a seat at the dining table.
Roommate!Miguel who wraps his arms around your waist as he comes up behind you.
“Need any help, querida?” he asks, pressing a kiss to your cheek in greeting. You twist your head around to give him a smile, then snicker softly at the fake moustache you’d drawn onto his upper lip.
You’d called him into your bathroom after finishing your own makeup, then sat him down on the chair in front of your dresser. He’d slid his hands up your thighs as you’d climbed onto his lap, his fingers squeezing and stroking you while you’d sketched the fine hairs onto his face.
‘Miguel,’ you’d chastised him as his lips had stretched into a smile, ‘try not to smile so much.’
He’d grinned at your soft laughter and moved his hands up to your waist.
‘I can’t help it, querida,’ he’d told you apologetically. ‘Why didn’t you just let me grow my own moustache?'
‘Because,’ you’d argued, getting back to work, ‘you’d look like a creep. And it would be annoying to kiss you.’
He’d snuck his fingers beneath your shirt and began running them across your skin as you’d continued and soon, your costume prep time had turned into a full-on makeout session with your sweet and sexy husband.
Roommate!Miguel who steals a sweet out of the bowl as well.
Your jaw drops in surprise and you glare at him as he walks around the kitchen island to take a seat in front of you.
“Like father, like son,” you grumble, shaking your head in disapproval as you tear open another bag of sweets. “If I ask the two of you for help, you’ll probably finish all the sweets on your own.”
Miguel glances over at his son in question, but Rio just shoots him the same confused look he was sure was on his own face. “!Papà!”
Miguel looks up as your youngest son barrels down the stairs, a look of alarm on his little face.
“¡Ten cuidado, pollito! (Be careful!)” Miguel warns him, holding his hands out as Rafael races towards him. His son slows down a little, but his body still buzzes with panic.
“!Papà! The lights aren’t working! Fix it!”
Roommate!Miguel whose lips twitch with amusement at his son’s demand.
He’d helped him attach the optical-fibre cables running through his Optimus Prime costume a few days ago, but something seemed to have gone wrong in the meantime. Miguel turns Rafael around and examines the cables, finding the problem easily. He reattaches the loose wire and turns the switch on, causing the costume to light up as they had intended.
“Yes!” Rafael exclaims, bouncing with excitement. “¡Gracías, Papà!”
He gives his dad a quick hug, then dashes back up to his room without another word.
“Rio?” you call. “What time are your friends getting here?”
Rio checks his phone again for any new messages. “They said they should be here in about ten minutes. They’re picking up Danny first.”
“Who’s he dressed as?” Miguel asks, trying to find a way to steal another sweet from one of the bowls. Rio grins and sets his phone aside.
“Daphne,” he reveals delightedly. “He got his mum to help him alter his skirt and everything! I think he’s going to steal his sister’s heels, but Shawn said he’s going to bring a spare pair of sneakers in case his feet start to hurt.”
His friends had decided to dress up at the Scooby Doo gang and though your son looked the polar opposite of the pale-skinned, blond-haired all-American golden boy, they’d still chosen him to play Fred thanks to the good looks he’d inherited from you and Miguel.
Roommate!Miguel who turns to the door when one of your neighbours pops her head in and calls out to you.
“Hi everyone!” Sana begins, trying to keep the group of eleven-year-olds behind her at bay. “Is Rafael ready?”
The woman had moved to your neighbourhood last year with her husband and two sons - the oldest of whom had quickly become good friends with your youngest. She was tall and thin with dark hair that always looked like she’d just come from the salon. Miguel stands and calls up the stairs for Rafa to come down and you don’t miss the way Sana’s eyes travel down your husband’s broad back.
“Rafa! Rashid is here!” Miguel turns to shoot her an amused look as Rafa scurries back down the stairs and Sana returns it with a practised smile of her own. You lower your head to hide the way your eyes roll, then bend over to give your son a hug.
“Bye, mami, love you!” Rafa recites before running around the island to tell the same to his dad.
“Bye, bebito! ¡Te amo, mi solito!” you call after him as he disappears out the door with his friends. Miguel yells the same, then sits back down again.
Roommate!Miguel who jumps up again when he sees his daughter coming down the stairs.
“Gabriella?!” he exclaims, unsure whether to be angry or terrified. “¡¿Qué diablos estás llevas?! (What the hell are you wearing?!)”
Gabi stops and stares back at her father with his same deep-set, upturned eyes.
“It’s my costume,” she replies, folding her arms across the tight shirt she’d put on over a pair of rolled-up shorts and a set of outrageously inappropriate fishnet stockings.
“What are you supposed to be?” Rio asks, narrowing his eyes in thought as he puzzles over his sister’s ‘costume’. You move to stand beside your husband and your features melt into a frown when you see what your daughter intends to leave the house in.
“A witch?” Gabriella replies, gesturing to her pointed hat as if it should have been obvious. You cross your arms and raise an eyebrow at her.
“I thought witches were supposed to look scary?” you muse out loud. “Not like a teenage boy's wet dream.”
“¡Mamà!” Gabi screeches in horror at the same time that Rio groans, “¡Ay, mami! ¡Por amor de Dios! (For the love of God!)”
You shrug, unbothered by your children’s complaints. “If you're embarrassed to hear me say it, you should be embarrassed to let me see it. Who's the boy?”
Gabi furrows her brow in confusion. “What boy?”
“The boy you’re trying to impress with this outfit?” you reply. “Which you should never be doing, by the way: that’s a red flag. The guy should always be trying to impress you.”
Roommate!Miguel whose eyebrows shoot up at your words.
He thinks back to the time before you’d started dating, trying to recall if he’d worked to impress you any more than you had. Maybe you were right: he could remember doing a few extra reps every time you’d joined him in the gym and he had shown off a little whenever you guys had studied together in the library or your shared living room. And there was that time he’d learned how to make your favourite dish so he could see the adorable smile that would light up your features when you came home to it after class. Ay, mierda. Maybe he really had always been trying to impress you.
“There’s no guy, mami,” Gabi sighs, rolling her eyes at your implication. You fix your daughter with a challenging look and she finally starts feeling self-conscious.
“There isn’t!” she insists, shifting awkwardly in position. “It’s just … Everyone else my age dresses up like this now!”
You turn to Rio in question. “Rio? Does everyone in Gabi’s year dress up like this?”
“We wear school uniforms, mamà,” Rio replies exasperatedly, not wanting to be dragged into the conversation.
“Outside of school?” you question, mimicking his sarcastic tone. Rio shrugs and glances at his phone again.
“I dunno,” he replies, coolly “I don't go around looking at fourteen-year-olds outside of school.”
“Right answer …” Miguel supposes, confused by his son’s response. “Wrong situation.”
You let your hands fall back to your sides, then you start walking up the stairs towards Gabriella.
“Wait.” You stop suddenly and quickly return to the kitchen to grab the bowl of candy. Gabi furrows her brows at you, but holds a hand out to help you.
“What are you doing?” she asks, helping you carry the bowls up to her room.
“I am making sure your brother stays healthy and your father stays hot,” you reply, prompting a wince out of your daughter.
“Why do I keep asking you questions I know I don't want to hear the answers to?”
“Because you're your father's daughter.”
Roommate!Miguel whose entire body warms at your words.
How could you still call him ‘hot’, even after all this time? After seventeen years of marriage and three kids? Rio jumps up as the sound of his friends’ voices float through the doorway.
“Bye, mami! Bye, Gabi!” he calls up the stairs, prompting you to rush out of his sister’s room and back down the stairs.
“Wait! Let me see your costumes!” you screech excitedly, gesturing for Miguel to get your phone. He grabs it from the kitchen island and turns on the camera as he joins you. “Oh my god! You boys look so good!”
You lean over to look at the photos he’s taken and Miguel wraps his arm around your waist.
“Thanks, Mrs O’Hara,” Nick replies, flicking his shaggy wig out of his eyes. He takes in your costume: a long-sleeved black dress that exposes your collarbone and clings to your figure. “You look good too! The Addams family?”
He shoots you a cheeky wink and Miguel pulls you a little closer into his side.
“This is why I don’t invite you guys over anymore,” Rio says, smacking his friend on the back of the head.
“Oh my god!” Gabi squeals, joining the two of you on the porch. “You guys look amazing!”
“You look,” Shawn begins excitedly, his features lighting up when he sees Gabi. He pauses quickly, calming himself down so he doesn’t come across as too eager, then he finishes coolly, “nice too.”
Gabriella smiles, oblivious to Shawn’s sudden shyness in her presence. “Thanks! My mum helped me!”
Roommate!Miguel who breathes a sigh of relief when he sees his daughter’s new outfit.
You’d made her roll her shorts back down to her mid-thighs and gotten rid of the fishnet stockings beneath. Then you’d switched her two-sizes-too-small shirt to an oversized black band tee you’d tucked into her shorts and rolled up the sleeves of. Finally, you’d clipped a section of her hair back, revealing her kohl-lined eyes, cherry red lips and two small fangs that peeked out from between her lips whenever she smiled.
“Whoa, are you … shining, honeybee?” Danny asks, squinting to check that he was seeing right. Gabi frowns at the nickname, but holds her arms out for everyone to see.
“Yup!” she confirms delightedly. “But it’s a secret.”
“Hey, bee!” Mayday calls, walking through their gate in almost the exact same outfit Gabriella had had on earlier. “Are you- Oh! Hi, Rio …”
Rio grimaces as she lowers her head, letting her curly hair fall over her shy smile. You press your lips together as Miguel digs his fingers into your side and reach up to place a reassuring hand on his shoulder. It was pretty obvious that his best friend’s daughter had a crush on your oldest son, but your husband had insisted time and time again that though he loved Peter, he did not want to become his brother-in-law.
‘I don’t think that’s how it works, cariño,’ you’d supposed, amused by your husband’s horror at the very prospect.
‘Good,’ Miguel had responded firmly. ‘I don’t want it to work.’
“Bye, guys!” Rio exclaims, pushing his friends out the gate before Mayday could say anything more.
“Bye, papito! ¡Te amo!” you call after him quickly. Mayday waves at the group as they rush past, then she jogs over to her best friend.
“Wow! Nice dress, Aunty X! And you look really good in that suit, Uncle Miguel! Oh my god!” She stops suddenly when she notices Gabriella’s outfit. “You look so good, Gabi! How did you …?”
“My mum helped,” she explains, pulling her friend in the house behind her. “Come on! I’ll help you get changed, then we can still match!”

grandmother’s hallucinating from parkinson’s. grandfather’s got fluid in his heart and lungs. i’m trying to arrange a flight to dallas for diwali between work productions and classes but it is right when the play im costume designing goes into tech. art piece for the show is late. load in tomorrow morning. i gotta ask permission to miss load in and strike for the show before so i can see my damn family and celebrate my damn holiday and they might just say no. exhausted as fuck. and the assignments just keep coming. college is the best years of our lives folks.
yesterday (today?) at 3am i submitted a paper that was due that midnight. i put it off until the very last second. i started writing it at 10. it took me 5 hours to write 5 pages, not because i write slow but because i just could not get myself to sit down and do it. this was the first time in my college career that i submitted a paper (like a big important paper) late. i’m a junior. i know that doesn’t sound like a big deal (because it isn’t! professors sometimes don’t even consider that late enough to dock points!) but it’s a big deal to me. i’m getting worse. the burnout from the summer is catching up to me and making my executive dysfunction worse. my adhd has never been more intrusive and my dyslexia has never been more noticeable. these past two years have been a fun game of “how much shit can jai do before they start feeling the effect of having too much on their plate?” and 5 classes, 3 jobs, 3 club exec board positions one of which being a presidency, 2 costume design positions, 1 film writer/director position, 2 theses in the works and 1 small business later, i think i figured it out.

Family Prayer

Prompt: Buttercup and Diwali are not things that go together. So even though Katniss dosen't like him much, she and Peeta try to make things easier for Buttercup on that day. [submitted by @everlurked]
Rating: Fluffy G
Author’s Note: This is a story about Diwali and wouldn’t have been possible without @cadsingh77 who spent weeks allowing me to ask all sorts of questions about Diwali and what it means to her. I patterned it on her descriptions. She read it, as well, to make sure there were no cultural faux pas. I apologize if there is anything amiss. Also, I’m remiss if I do not mention @norbertsmom who at the eleventh hour betaed this story. She’s my rock my bestie, and I would be nothing without her.
__________
Peeta glanced at his suit in the closet. His hands shook.
In a few hours he was going to meet the family of the love of his life.
He looked at the phone in his hands. He was lying in bed researching everything Diwali. His girlfriend Katniss had gone over the topic. She explained that just as sunset happens an elaborate puja, a prayer ceremony is done in a temple to begin the holiday. But to most Trinidadians or Trinis, as she called herself, like her family, they said little personal prayers in front of Laxmi, Saraswati and Ganesh and then they would light the diyas, little clay lamps, that they were going to placed in all of the rooms of the house.
Katniss made it all sound so simple. Diwali was a celebration of light. A victory over darkness. A day to wear new clothing, beautiful jewelry, sing, dance, pray, and light diyas. Katniss said any other guests would arrive after the prayers and they would have a ton of food and everyone would eat and hang out, kids would light sparklers, and there would be singing and dancing too.
Curious, Peeta watched every Bollywood movie on Netflix. Movies, however, never really explained everything. He put the phone down. He had to  be honest with himself; Katniss’ assurances aside, he was a fish out of water no matter what he did. He was going to meet the most important people in Katniss’s life, her family.
In contrast, his parents were Dan and Cindy from Port Jefferson, Long Island. They owned a bakery near the ferry. They were dull people, they were like the parents of Ian Miller from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. But a lot colder and more dysfunctional, dressed in tans and beiges. Peeta constantly questioned why they would own a bakery that matched the color of bland. They never veered from the menu. Never introduced a new seasonal baked good. Peeta was stuck in that rut until he met Katniss and his entire world changed and color was introduced into his life.
Katniss was the electric jolt that kickstarted his dull heart to life.
The first time he tasted roti, the buttery tasting flat bread he literally cried.
From the pictures that Katniss shared of her family, he could tell they were a riot of awesomeness.
Katniss and her parents hailed from Trinidad and Tobago. Her family moved to Long Island from Germany. Her father was an engineer and physicist. He worked at the superconductor in Germany and then came to Long Island so that he could work on a project at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Her mother worked at Stony Brook University. She ran the nursing department.
Peeta and Katniss both attended Stony Brook University. He was on his way to a yoga class and she was in her Pink boxing class. From the glass covered room Peeta watched her hit the punching bag like Joe Fraser, and he was a goner. Peeta had a thing for strong women. His first middle school girlfriend bossed him and made him carry her books to and from class and he was a sucker for her, but she broke his heart. She told him she was only using him to get to his older brother Ryan. Peeta battled so much darkness in his life and what he needed was to chase the darkness away and to let the light into his heart. But he couldn’t deny he liked strong women.
There was something about a strong alpha woman who knew how to get things done, unlike his mother who was passive aggressive, and banged the pots in the kitchen and slammed refrigerator doors.
He sighed as he worried about tomorrow. He googled Diwali’s greetings and butchered the language as he tried to speak in Hindi.
Peeta sighed heavily.
Katniss’s mother invited him over the phone. She wanted him to come over before the prayers began. It was an honor because he was Katniss’ boyfriend, someone she chose despite her father trying to get her to date the son of a friend of his. Katniss put her figurative foot down and claimed she was dating Peeta. Her father didn’t want to meet him, but he knew of him.
So the pressure was on to be perfect. He didn’t want to say or do the wrong thing, especially in front of her family. His hands shook, this was important. He wanted to make a good impression on Katniss’ family, even if her father didn’t like him or the idea of him. Peeta wanted them to like him because, truth be told, his own family didn’t like him.
Peeta loved his family, but ever since he was little, he knew he didn’t fit into the landscape of his family. He was labeled as the emotional one. He was too irreverent for them. Peeta liked color. He loved to paint. He enjoyed the change in seasons where his family loved one season, summer, because they generated the most money then.
His family liked one or two flavors. Peeta loved all flavors, spicy ones, bold ones, subtle ones. They hated that he was always pushing to change the menu at the bakery. His childhood room was always the one his parents never showed off, because as a teen he painted the walls of his room every shade of orange. Peeta knew they sighed in relief when he decided to stay in the dorms at Stony Brook. His football scholarship allowed him to have that opportunity. He trained hard, studied hard, and loved hard.
“Katniss,” her name escaped his lips like fervent prayer and a wish. He loved her, was consumed by her, and he was so overly happy that she invited him to meet her family for Diwali. And now he had so much pent up energy he couldn’t sleep.
His teammates made fun of him, because he got a goofy lopsided I-got-my-hippopotamus-at-Christmas type grin, whenever Peeta thought of Katniss. He closed his eyes picturing her olive skin, thick straight dark hair braided into a rope, small pert nose, and silvery eyes that were breathtaking. Though it wasn’t her physical parts that made him fall in love. It was the woman who lay beneath the surface.
What made him sit up and take notice of Katniss after he saw her box, and he was out of the yoga room, was that there was a blonde girl at the gym working out. There were these idiots guys making fun of her, calling that poor girl fat, just because she was full figured. Katniss walked straight up to the guys and gave them a scowl full of fire and brimstone, called the girl hot and told her that if she were gay she’d do her in an instant. Then she told the guys that they could jackknife themselves off the roof of the building. Peeta had never seen anything sexier in his life. Katniss was full of fire and she was resplendent more so than the sun.
His phone buzzed drawing him away from his memories as the message came in.
KATNISS: Why are you still up?
Peeta grinned, his phone betrayed him. In some phones a little dot showed up next to the person when they were on their phone. Katniss must have noticed.
PEETA: Stalk much.
KATNISS: LOL
Peeta could see those three little dots moving as she wrote a reply.
For the most part Katniss wasn’t a talker. Unless she was passionate about the topic and then she was a chatterbox.
KATNISS: FUNNY. Seriously, tomorrow is going to be a long day. You need to sleep.
PEETA: Because tomorrow I am going to meet your family.
Peeta could see her rolling her eyes even through the phone.
KATNISS: You don’t have to be nervous.
PEETA: If you tell me all I have to do is be myself, I swear I am going to come dressed as Buddy the Elf.
KATNISS: Dork.
PEETA: Yes, but I’m your dork.
KATNISS: They’re going to love you.
Peeta sighed.
PEETA: This is important. I want to make a good impression. Your family is important to you and given that my family…
Peeta sighed. He’d brought Katniss to the bakery to meet his family because they didn’t have time for him. His father was pleasant. His mother, however, spoke loudly and slowly as if Katniss didn’t speak English. Katniss spoke various languages and was extremely intelligent. Her mother wanted her to be a doctor, but Katniss had a passion for the environment. Her major was environmental studies, with a minor in geology. She was brilliant and he felt like the dumb jock.
KATNISS: Your family is fine, well except for Ryan. Someone needs to examine him.
Peeta chuckled. His brother Rye stared at Katniss as if she was Christmas, Easter, and summer vacation all rolled up into one. He then proceeded to flirt with Katniss, by using every campy movie line known to mankind. In typical Rye fashion because he’d done it before to their other brother Lyle. Unfortunately in that instance the girl in question dumped Lyle to go out with Rye.
He sighed. That was his dysfunctional family. Family gatherings were uncomfortable events. They weren’t exactly nice to one another.
PEETA: I have no excuse for my brother.
Peeta decided to follow his text with a self deprecating joke. A truth, his family thought him the odd one in the family.
PEETA: But Ryan isn’t the bad apple. I’m not sure you know this, but I am the black sheep of the family.
KATNISS: You mean the sexy one.
A grin spread on his face at her compliment.
Katniss’ family was conservative, and by extent, so was Katniss. He respected her boundaries and her values.  Family was everything to her and he loved her because of it, Katniss would lay her life on the line for her family.
PEETA: Have I told you today how much I love you.
KATNISS: No, but I do love to hear you say it.
Peeta pressed the little microphone and recorded his voice, which sounded rougher to his ears than normal.
PEETA: (a voice email) I love you Katniss. I love your mind. I love your kindness. I love how you always talk about your sister Prim. I love the way you adore your dad. I love the way you look up to your mother. I think you are the most beautiful soul. And I am nervous because if you are wonderful, then your family has to be just as great.
He meant every word.
They’d been dating for the last few months, but they’d been friends for two years. They weren’t easy years because of their schedules in school and the fact that her father had a mild heart attack right after they met. Peeta put himself in the friend zone because that’s what Katniss needed. He didn’t want her to feel pressure to feel romantic toward him when her dad, the most important man in her life, was ill.
In the end, the bonds of friendship grew to a love so sweet and pure, that it shined out of her silver eyes. The first time she realized the love she held for him was more than friendship left him breathless, like stepping into a world filled with brilliant colors, light and joy.
KATNISS: (a voice email) I love you too.
Her voice was breathy and filled with her heartfelt emotion.
Peeta couldn’t help but sigh contentedly.
KATNISS: Now as for tomorrow, don’t worry. When they see what a great guy you are, they will love you.
Peeta sighed.
KATNISS: NOW GO TO SLEEP, MELLARK!
PEETA:  Yes ma’am.
He grinned and would have followed her directions, but instead he stood from his bed and went into his suite kitchen. He needed to bake. It was the only thing he knew that would calm him down. He decided to make chocolate using the vegetarian items he purchased in the store. Come the morning he would make the Laddoos he planned to bring with him. In Hindi they were called Laddu but in Trinidad they were known as Laddoo.
Making the chocolate eased his nerves, so he actually got some sleep. In the morning, he showered and set to work on making the Laddoos. By three o’clock he was done, and all he had to do was wrap up the presents. Taking a red ribbon, he tied each box the way he’d done so many times at the bakery.
His suitemates were gone. No doubt causing trouble somewhere on campus, which gave Peeta the time he needed to get ready. He took out his new suit. Even though Katniss told him he could wear a nice pair of slacks and shirt, Peeta bought a suit that was on sale for the special occasion.
Taking a deep breath he took the small presents he had for her family. They weren’t necessary, but he wanted to make a good impression. He gathered up the Laddoos, the chocolate, the flowers - marigolds he sourced at the local home depot, and the paintings he made of her family made from the memory of the pictures she’d shown him.
He drove, heading to the Everdeen home in Mount Sinai. The cottage-like house looked like something out of a movie or TV show: warm, inviting, like a real home, one filled with love, and not pretend.
As he walked up, he could hear laughter, genuine laughter, followed by singing and joy. Running a hand through his blond wavy locks he took a deep breath. “Okay Mellark, just be yourself,” he whispered, as he stood in front of the door.
He raised his hand to knock on the door and his breath caught at the man standing there looking more like a navy seal instead of a physicist. This was Katniss’ dad. His chrome eyes were hard and they took him apart, much the way a defensive end could read a play and pick it apart while holding their defense line.
“Happy Diwali.” Peeta tried to say confidently but his voice cracked. He could feel himself sweating.
Her father raised an eyebrow. “You are Peeta Mellark.”
Peeta nodded.
“Rahul!” A statuesque woman with blonde hair and pale blue eyes swatted Katniss’ father’s arm. He watched her sneak around him, dressed in a traditional red sari with gold thread. “Please behave.” Mrs. Everdeen quietly gave her husband a look. Her golden bangles clinked as she placed her hand dramatically on her hip. Peeta was glad Katniss had gone over the different fashions. He studied each one because he would do anything for Katniss.
Peeta watched as her father’s hard analytical eyes softened the moment he beheld Katniss’ mother. Peeta could see how Katniss’ parents were a unit of one. They were in love and either one would fight the shadows and all of the evil in the world for their other half.  “Anjali.”
“I am Katniss’ mother, this is her father,” her pale eyes sparkled. “Please come in, we were waiting for your arrival. Come in,” she ushered him.
The home was two stories, to the left a halfway with rooms, to the right a living room, dining area, and a den to the far back. The house was decorated with warm rich colors, but everything was tied around the family, as pictures dotted the walls. There were lights everywhere hanging from the walls, the clay diya’s sat on the mantel.  Peeta stood in front of a picture of Katniss on her father’s shoulders, her twin braids flowing, her eyes crinkled in pure happiness.
“Ohhhh you’re cute,” a younger, but deeper voice than Katniss’ said with impish mischief.
Primrose took after Katniss’ mother, with the flaxen hair and the pale blue eyes.  Katniss explained that her mother was of British descent, while her father’s family, although sporting a European name, was from India. His great-grandparents came to Trinidad, fell in love with the island and stayed.
Her mother walked away from her very wealthy family back in Trinidad to marry Katniss’ father. It was a little like they were the original Romeo and Julliet.
His parents got together because his dad knocked up his mom.
“Primrose!” Mrs. Everdeen admonished.
“What,” Prim said. Her pale blue eyes were inquisitive as she walked around him. The way Katniss talked about her sister, Peeta had expected a little kid, but Prim was as tall as he was. Her loose  pajama-like trousers that narrowed at her ankles, called shalwar, swooshed around as she made her round. Her red kameez, a flowing tunic with intricate gold patterns reminded Peeta of the pattern Mrs. Everdeen wore on her sari.
Prim was everything Katniss was not. She was a bold bright bubbly girl, who at this moment was making sure he was the real deal and not some mindless jerk. He stood, letting her because it was important that her family liked him. He wanted to be accepted. He felt his face flame up under the scrutiny.
“I understand why my boring sister is constantly sighing.”
Peeta grinned, then he said, “Oh these are for you.” He gave them the presents. The flowers, the chocolate, and the sweetened chickpea Laddoos he made by hand for them.
“Oh these are fragrant, where did you purchase them?”
“He made them.” The soft voice that came behind him made his heart rate triple.
Peeta turned around and there stood Katniss wearing an emerald green lenghas. She had explained what it looked like, but at this moment, his brain that was always filled with words was momentarily empty, vanquished by her beauty. He swallowed, mouth slightly ajar. His eyes darted from the perfection of her face with those silvery eyes that captivated him, and the peek of dark hair that was hidden by the sari.
Katniss held a shiny brass plate, she called a Tarrier, but in Hindi it was known as a Thali, containing coconut, almonds, and other sweets. Katniss told him the plate belonged to her great-grandmother Veronica. When her mother married her father, her great-grandmother gave it to her insisting it should go to her first born. He swore for a second he could see a miniature Katniss with his eyes staring up at him and holding the Tarrier.
“He made them?” Primrose asked, Peeta could hear the intense curiosity in her sister’s voice.
“His family are bakers, and Peeta is an amazing cook.”
“Really,” her father said, and his voice, the way he said that one word snapped Peeta out of his hazy fog.
“Ah,” he nervously said. “I made her cheese buns,” Peeta felt the heat rising from his neck and caused those red splotches that his brothers made fun of.
“Cheese buns,” her father repeated.
“When you were in the hospital, daddy,” her eyes did not hide the pain of recalling those days. “Peeta noticed I wasn’t eating and cajoled me into eating cheese buns,” Katniss words were so soft. “He was the friend I leaned on for support when…” her voice trailed.
Peeta watched her father’s face take a look of adoring tenderness at his eldest, and when his eyes turned to Peeta they weren’t as frosty as they had been.
“He even took me to temple to pray,” Katniss whispered.
“In Selden?”
“Yes, daddy,” Katniss quietly said.
“Rahul,” Katniss’ mother chided. She cupped his cheeks, “Such a nice young man. Did you make the chocolate as well?”
Peeta nodded, his eyes went back to her father. He couldn’t mess this up.
Her mother smiled serenely, then her eyes lit with happiness as if she made a startling connection. “Oh! Pundit Sharma was right; they were destined in the stars.”
“Star crossed lovers just like you and mom,” Prim said.
Her father cut his eyes away.
“Oh my, these chocolates….” Prim moaned.
“Primrose!” Her mother admonished.
“What, he said they were for us,” Prim shrugged, plopping a chocolate in her mouth. “I’d say he’s golden. So what does a cheese bun taste like?”
“Primrose, really, must you think only of your stomach?” Katniss shook her head.
“Girls,” their father said in a stern tone of voice. “It’s near sunset. Upstairs with the lot of you. I swear corralling a dozen baby ducks would be easier.”
The women headed upstairs. Peeta wasn’t sure, but her father swept a hand for him to follow him upstairs.
Peeta wasn’t sure what he was expecting, hopefully like something out of Khabi Kushi Khabi Gham. They had a small altar where he watched all of the women present the offerings and began to bow their heads. He stood behind quietly observing, but when Katniss began to pray it was like a song and her words that he didn’t understand wrapped around his heart and his lashes fluttered closed and a single tear fell down his face. Song after song her voice combined with that of her father, her mother and sister caused him to realize just how much he wanted to be part of this family, to be loved and accepted.
He too prayed for a family to want him, to be needed.
Peeta was so wrapped up in the moment when it was over he opened his eyes to find her mother standing before him with trembling lips, and watery blue eyes.
“Bend down son,” her father said with warmth in his voice. “She’s going to honor you by putting the sindoor on your forehead.” He pointed to his forehead, though his eyes had completely lost the frost. They were filled with admiration and the same warmth he had in his voice. Her father looked at Katniss and nodded as if giving her his blessings.
Unsure if what he had just seen was real, his eyes went to Katniss,  but Prim said, “Go ahead Peeta, my father has just fallen for you too.” Her voice squeaked with that enthusiasm only a teenager could have. She wiped the tears from her face as well.
Peeta bent down slightly. Mrs. Everdeen’s hand slipped to the Tarrier and with her ring finger she pressed it into the red dust Katniss’ father called sindoor.
The press of her finger was light. “When my daughter marries you. You will sprinkle this sindor over the part in her hair to symbolize her marriage to you.”
Peeta’s eyes flew to her father who nodded. “Welcome to the family son.” He clasped his back and said. “Now let’s go eat. I’m starving.”
Peeta couldn’t help but grin. He gazed at Katniss who came to him, her smile shy. He was going to follow them, but katniss put her hand on his, then stepped up and placed a small peck on his cheek. Then winked sassily. “I told you they would love you.”
And like that, his prayers were answered; he now had a family.
Years later, when he stood in the same position watching his little girl singing the puja, holding the brass tarrier, alongside Katniss. Just as in that memory from years ago he listened to Katniss voice blend with their daughter. Their voices blended in with his father-in-law Rahul, Primrose and her soon to be fiancé. Peeta was grateful that his prayers were answered, the darkness was swept away and light filled his soul.  And he was granted the family he always wanted.

Hi everyone, I was just informed by my mother that my uncle that works in Bengaluru in a private MNC won't be getting a holiday for Diwali on Thursday and instead will be getting the leave on Friday as they just got a leave for Kannada day . And I am FURIOUS!
1. Who do these ppl think they are deciding when their employees get to have a leave for a major holiday ? I mean what will ppl do on Friday when everything is over? It's like celebrating Christmas on 26th or new year's on 2nd Jan!
2. I understand that many people don't celebrate Diwali in the south but it's also true that people from all around India stay in Bengaluru so a good percentage of employees will miss out celebrating a major festival . Giving a leave on Friday only helps give a long weekend to those who don't celebrate Diwali there.
3. Don't we all know how holidays can help improve the mental health ? I mean these big corporate companies post about mental health awareness but now what is this ? Will the employees be "mentally healthy" by missing out on a big day ? And I don't need to mention how much of a positive effect it will have on their "mental health" if they get to spend time with their families on Diwali . Studies have shown how homicide rates decrease during holidays it's because for a while ppl are happy ( I don't want to be insensitive to the ppl who have a toxic home or no families, this is for the ppl that have supporting and loving families and friends ). Just talking about work-life balance and mental health, having seminars and posting on social media won't do . They need to incorporate these small things too.
4. Diwali is a national holiday and no company should be allowed to make their employees work on such a big occasion .
5. We work and work and work all year round but we never ask ourselves are we working to live or living to work ? These occasions , the time spent with our friends and families , isn't this what life is all about ? Life is too short and you never know what will happen so we should seize the day , and do the things that make us happy . These corporate companies will make millions in profit , give out pennies to their employees and even if they give you a large amout of money will that turn back time ? Will it bring back diwali on Friday ? Will it bring back the time you loose with your loved ones ? We run after money but forget what we are earning money for .
6. The CEO or the owner of the company won't care if you drop dead tomorrow, the company will keep working without you , they will hire someone else , another rat to run the rat race , but your family will be devastated, it will be you who would have not lived your life to the fullest . So I say , tell your boss you won't be coming in on Diwali , say you are taking a personl day or a sick day because you will be having Diwali fever because if the past 2 years have taught us all anything , it is that there is no guarantee what will happen in the future so live NOW !
Maybe this was all too dramatic coming from me since I don't have a job right now and I might not know anything about the pressure of working in an MNC . But this is coming from the heart of a girl that loves Diwali , a girl that waits all year for diwali , someone whose heart will break if she doesn't get to celebrate it .
Thank you for reading this !

You pushed your black framed glasses up your nose as you squinted, the lined piece of paper in your hand looked like it had been ripped off of an old diary that your mother used to keep. The strains of oil and turmeric on the corner of it, and your mother’s writing in smudging black ink; you wondered how she had even thought that you would be able to read what she had even written. You looked down to read the grocery list in your hand as you let out another exasperated sigh. Your mother’s squiggly Tamil manuscript was barely legible as you tried to figure out what she had written for you to buy.
Despite the fact that you had moved to New York when you had been eight years of age, you had managed to learn English as a second language. While you were fluently speaking English by the time you were ten and had worked rigorously to be rid of your accent that had been the cause of all of the bullying that you had to endure, you could not let go of your first language all that easily either. Your parents had been it their mission to ensure that both you and your brother did not forget how to read, write and speak your mother tongue. From binge-watching VHS copies of old South Indian soap operas to enrolling you in Tamil language credit courses while you were in high school, their mission had certainly been a success.
You spoke Tamil just as well as you wrote it. Your knowledge of Tamil literature and poetry was also fairly extensive, compared to most Tamil kids who were actually born in America. You had read most of the Thirukurral and the poems of Mahakavi Bharathiyar, even Kamba Ramayanam and Silappathikaram. You had your father to credit for that. Your reading comprehension was fairly decent as well, but nothing could have prepared you to decipher what your mother had written on that marinated grocery list of hers.
“Hey, what the fuck are you starin’ at, huh?!” You heard a familiar voice call out, startling you in an instant. “Haven’t you ever seen sexy legs before?!”
As you looked up from the grocery list in your hand, you noticed the familiar red-headed Russian girl whom you had once attended high school with. In her ripped denim shorts and leather jacket, she looked quite feisty as she argued with a young boy whom she had just caught staring at her from behind in the checkout line. She had always been a ticking time bomb, not taking shit from anyone, teachers, bullies and cat callers alike.
“... I have. But those legs aren’t sexy.” The boy had responded to her with sass.
Your eyes grew wide as you parted your lips, unable to believe that a boy his age would dare to challenge someone like that. What even happened to kids these days?
“I’ll fucking slap you!” Natasha Romanoff spat at the teen, raising her voice as she grew irritated by his response. “Apologize! Apologize, right fucking now.”
At that point, the entire grocery store had been staring at the two of them. Leave it to Natasha Romanoff to start a scene like this. She had done so much more during her time in high school though.
While the two of you had not been close, you knew her well enough to know that she was not one to be messed with. The number of times she had almost gotten into physical fights with the jocks and the bitchy cheerleader girls who teased her for being a tomboy and ended up in detention were endless. If it had not been for her two best friends, you were sure that she would have gotten suspended or expelled for her behaviour. After all, that was a consequence to her non-conformity to high school stereotypes.
This poor boy must have been taken aback by her outburst. But he must have thought twice before he stared at her ass and sassed her out when she caught him. If anything, he had to learn his lesson the hard way. “Sorry...”
“Good. Now go stand on the other checkout line and don’t even dare to stare at me, you idiot.”
As you watched the boy walk away from her in defeat, you made your way over to the checkout line having given up on figuring out what the remainder of items on your mother’s list were. If you could get out of here before it got dark, you could stop by the bookstore on your way home and pick up some of your textbooks for the next semester.
It was the holidays after all. You did not have any plans to celebrate; not that you had anything to celebrate anyways. Diwali had been a month ago and it had been a decent celebration. While lighting fireworks and clay lamps was out of the question, you had spent it with your family by heading to the temple and sharing some homemade sweet treats among yourselves. You and your family did not celebrate Christmas, so you had been planning to study your ass off during the holidays.
With your three weeks off from school, you were planning on getting a head start on your readings for the following semester. The perks of being a pre-med student at an Ivy League school meant that you had a lot of pressure to excel academically. Often times this meant that you barely led a social life. Not that you minded, really. You were content with spending all of your free time being buried in textbooks and studying the last of your teenage years away.
A typical Tamil girl your parents had always wanted you to be, you had retained your innocence for as long as you could. At twenty-one years of age, you had never been kissed and never had a drop of alcohol enter your system. You still lived at home with your parents while your older brother had found himself moving out after he had left high school. It was just how things were and you had accepted it, not having a single rebellious bone in your body. As most first and second generation immigrants alike, you had found it hard to be the perfect Tamil daughter and a perfect American teenager. You had resorted to being the former, therefore sacrificing any prospects of close friendships or a social life in the process.
As you made your way over to the checkout line next to hers and began to unload your shopping cart, Natasha was quick to notice you as she began unloading her shopping cart as well. Recognizing you in an instant, she grinned widely. “Y/N?! ...Y/N Y/L/N?” She called out to you, her lips curling into a smile as she shook her head in disbelief.
You smiled at her as you laid out your groceries onto the belt. “Hi... Natasha.”
“What’s up, dude? Long time, huh? What have you been up to these days?”
“Nothing much...” You replied with a shrug. “Just... trying to get through pre-med, you know? Columbia’s been kicking my ass.”
“Oh wow, that’s so cool.” She beamed, waiting for the cashier to ring up her items. “You’re still the same, Y/N. Even in high school, you were a straight A student. That is so amazing.”
“How about you, Natasha?” You asked her as the cashier began to ring up your items. “What have you been up to?”
“Just... arts, you know?” Natasha shrugged. “Studying has never been my thing, you know? Thank God, it’s the holidays though! I’m so glad I can finally relax and let loose.”
“Any plans for the holidays?” You asked her, curiously. As someone who has never had a proper holiday for yourself, you wondered what other people did during the holidays.
Perhaps, you wished to live vicariously through everyone else’s experiences. The only ever time you had a chance to travel were during the trips back home with your family. Other than that, you were pretty much stuck in Brooklyn.
“I’m heading to The Hamptons tomorrow...” She replied, excitedly. “We’re going to be skiing!”
“The Hamptons?” You asked, your eyes growing wide at her response. “That sounds quite fancy. What? Are you going with your family?”
“Oh no, I’m actually going with my friends. As a matter of fact, you know them too. Steve and Bucky, you remember them. Steven Rogers... as in my best friend? And Bucky, I mean, James Buchanan Barnes... you know him. He used to skip class all the time and get detention. You even had to tutor him for algebra once for extra credit or something, remember?”
Your eyes grew wide as you recalled her two best friends. You were slightly surprised that they had managed to keep in touch with her after all these years. But then again, the three of them had always been close. They were known as the inseparables around school, always hanging out with each other and slacking off in class together.
Often times, you had found yourself being jealous of their friendship. You wished you had that kind of bond with someone. You had always wanted a best friend but all you had was your older brother.  You had been so lonely ever since you moved to New York.
For some odd reason, your parents had been against you befriending anyone who was not Tamilian. Apparently some bullshit about how anyone else would have corrupted your innocent mind and derail you from your path to being the perfect daughter you had always been. They had claimed that while they ‘trusted’ their daughter, they did not trust the society in which they had to raise their children. It was all bullshit.
Truth be told, your parents really had ruined your chance to make any friends at all. As much as you let your social anxiety get the worst of you, you had to blame them for the role they had played in your lack of a social life.
“Oh... right.” You reached into your purse to pull out the cash that your mother had given you, handing it over to the cashier and taking back your change.
As you grabbed your bagged groceries, Natasha had paid for her own things before walking over to you. “Hey, are you headed home? Come on, I’ll give you a ride.”
“What?” You looked up at her in surprise. “Oh no, Natasha... it’s fine. I can take the subway back.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m heading over to see my parents anyways and they live down the street from yours. I’ll drop you off on my way.” She offered with a smile. “Come on, dude!”
For how long could you keep avoiding the kind gestures from people and push them away? You had known Natasha since you had first arrived in New York and you knew that you could trust her, even if your own parents would be against that. Thanks to her short hair, tattoos and piercings that made her seem like bad news according to their judgemental eyes. But at this point, you could care less about what your mother would think about you accepting a ride from Nat. “Fine...” You gave in, struggling to carry your groceries.
“Here, I got it.” Taking one of the bags from you, she began walking out of the store with you in toe. “So, what are your plans for the holidays, huh?”
“Not much, really...” You replied with a shrug. “Just getting ready for the next semester, I guess.”
Nat stopped in her tracks before turning around to face you, her jaw dropping slightly at your response. “What the fuck, Y/N? You really need to give yourself a break. You need to go and do something fun.”
A part of you knew that she was right about that. But truth be told, you did not know how to have fun. For the longest time, your idea of fun had been burying yourself in school. Studying had been fun to you until it became the thing that you always did. Not to mention your lack of a social life ever since you were a kid. After all, you had never even been to a sleepover. Now a legal adult, you had never been to a party. Never been kissed and never gotten drunk. You lived quite a boring life and you did not know how to fix that. “I don’t know, man... I never really did anything fun during the holidays. I just studied... a lot.”
Letting out a sigh of disbelief, she turned around to walk over to her car. “I’ll tell you what...” She unlocked her car before opening the trunk. “Why don’t you come down to The Hamptons with me?” It had been a casual offer, perhaps even one that she had thought you would refuse in an instant, which you initially did. But Natasha knew you and knew how hard it had been for you to make friends in high school. She was finally making the effort to be your friend by offering to let you join her on her trip; she should have done something like this many years ago. But better late than never, right?
“What?!” You gasped, hearing her offer. If it had been that easy for you to pack up and leave to The Hamptons with a skater girl and two boys, you would have done it in a heartbeat. But you knew your parents and there was no way they would even allow you to go on this trip if you had even bothered to ask them in the first place. “Oh no, I can’t...”
“Come on, Y/N! It’ll be so much fun!” She grinned at you before loading the grocery bags in her trunk. “It’ll be just the four of us. It’s like you’re going to be on a trip with strangers. It’s just four school friends hanging out together for a week, catching up.”
“Oh no, Natasha... I shouldn’t be intruding.” You shook your head as you handed her the last of your bags. A part of you was longing to take her up on her offer, but you knew your parents very well and you worried about what they might think. They would never allow you to go off to all the way to The Hamptons with the kids they would have never approved of you to be friends with. Even if you were a pre-med student at Columbia University with a 4.0 GPA, no achievement would have made you worthy of such a trip when it came to their standards.
“You won’t be intruding at all.”
“Yeah, but...” You shook your head at her. “My parents would never allow it.” This had always been your excuse to turning down every invite to a party or a sleepover during high school. Your parents never allowed you to make friends with anyone, because that was just how it was.
“Well, then... we’ll sneak you out. You can’t let your parents dictate what you do and don’t do anymore. How old are you? Like... twenty? Twenty-one? You need to start making your own decisions at some point...” She was right. She knew exactly what she was talking about. “Y/N, you’re a good kid... you’re a good student, you’re doing good in school and working hard. You’ve got to give yourself a break. But there’s nothing wrong with being a little selfish sometimes.”
You sighed. “I... they won’t... I’ve never done anything rebellious my whole life, Natasha. And I don’t know how to... I can’t risk getting in trouble with my parents.”
“That’s why you have me, babe. I’ll sneak you out and have you back home in one piece. You have nothing to worry about. Just pack up your belongings tonight and meet me outside of my parents’ house at 3 in the morning. We’re driving up to The Hamptons ourselves.” She told you. “You don’t even have to pay for the gas. Just bring yourself enough pocket money to rent some ski gear and spend on booze or whatever... and we can spend the whole week skiing.”
“Natasha...” You bit down on your bottom lip. “I can’t...”
“For old time’s sake...”
“I need to think about it.” You admitted.
“Fine... I’ll wait for you until 3:30. If you don’t show up, you’ll see me drive past yours from your bedroom window.” She told you with a playful eye roll. “It’s your loss, Y/N.”
When Natasha had dropped you home that evening, you found yourself locked up in your bedroom for the remainder of the night. You paced back and forth, staring out your window to see her car parked down the street in front of her parents’ house. You had a few hours to contemplate taking her up on her offer. It was either spending another dreadful holiday drowning in your anatomy textbook or skiing with her and her friends. You finally had a chance at making friends of your own and it looked too good to pass up. But the thought of being caught by your parents terrified you, for the punishment would be a harsh one regardless of your academic achievements that should seem to balance it out.
So you did the best thing you could in your search for clarity and told your brother of this offer right away. While being of the male gender had certainly given him more privilege within the family, he knew that his freedom to do whatever he wanted was not something he could take for granted. He understood that as privileged as he was for the way your parents had been lenient on him, you were held to a higher moral standard than he was. Truth be told, he hated that and when it came to advocating for you and what you wanted, he always took your side when arguing with your parents. He was a true ally and the only real best friend you had so far. You could trust him.
“I’ll sneak you out.” Arjun offered in an instant.
Your jaw dropped as you heard his offer. “What?! Anna... are you insane? Amma and Appa would kill me they found out that I left!”
“Illa di, listen to me for a sec. I’m on your side here. Sometimes, you have to be rebellious and go out and get what you want.” He advised. “You’ve been too much of a goody-two-shoes to be treated like shit. I say you take the chance and get the hell out of here for a week.”
“Easy for you to say...” You mumbled as you rolled your eyes at him. “You don’t even live here anymore. But I do... and I don’t want to deal with all this crap because when I get back from this trip, you’ll be gone back to Harvard and I’m the one who’s stuck here.”
Your brother thought for a moment. “I’ll give them an ultimatum.” He suggested, shrugging his shoulders. “If they give you crap for going on this trip, then I’ll drop out of Harvard and flip burgers for a living. Trust me, Amma wouldn’t want that.”
“Anna... no, seriously... no!” You shook your head. “You’re being so dramatic right now and there’s no need for that. I’m not going.”
“Hey... po, di. If you don’t want to go for yourself, enakkaga po. Do this for me, please, di?” He told you with a pout. “Go out there and make some friends. You deserve it.”
You bit down on your bottom lip before sighing. “I’m terrified... but... I also want to go.”
“Then go. Go to the Hamptons... go make some friends. I don’t want you to end up friendless when I go off, get married and have my own family one day.” He admitted, chuckling softly. “You’ve been alone for so long, di kannamma. Go enjoy yourself while you’re young. You deserve it.”
You nodded as you pulled him into a hug. “You’re too good to me. Thank you, da Anna. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Hugging you back tightly, he sighed in contentment. “Anything for my kannamma.” He laughed as he held you close. The two of you shared a close bond and it was frankly because you were each other’s best friend. He would take a bullet for you in a heartbeat, so it was no surprise that he was willing to face your parents for your sake. “Now go up to your room, pack up your things and wait. I’ll come and get you when it’s time and we can climb out my bedroom window, sariya?”
You laughed softly and nodded, pulling back from the hug. “Sari...”
And with that, you had snuck up to your bedroom and managed to back yourself a suitcase full of your belongings. You were only going to be there for a week so there was not much to pack. But you were also cautious of how much you packed anyways, considering that you would need to launch this suitcase of yours off of the roof before you managed to sneak out your brother’s bedroom window. The last thing you wanted was for your parents to wake up from the commotion and catch you red-handed. You did not need this attempt at going on a holiday trip to come to an end before it had even started.
When the time came, your brother had helped you climb out through his bedroom window and threw your suitcase onto the sidewalk. Once he climbed down the roof, he helped you down and the two of you sprinted down the street towards the Romanoff Residence.
“Nat!” You called out to the redhead as you reached her parents’ house, your brother following after you with your suitcase.
“Y/N, you made it!” Natasha grinned as she ran up to you, tackling you with a triumphant hug.
You were taken aback by her embrace but you returned it anyways, your heart still beating right out of your chest from the adrenaline rush that came with sneaking out of your house and running down the street. “Yeah, I... I did.” You admitted, laughing softly. You were glad that you had not backed out of this ordeal, thanks to your supportive older brother who wanted nothing more than for you to be happy.
Arjun watched as the two of you pulled back from the hug. “Natasha Romanoff.”
“Arjun.” She bowed her head at your brother. “Good to see you. Thanks for bringing her over.”
“Don’t mention it.” He winked at her before turning over to you. “You two should get going.”
You nodded as you pulled your brother into a tight hug. “Thank you... for being the best big brother I could ever ask for.” Your eyes glazed over as you realized how much trouble he was going to be in for the part he played in your disappearance for a week. But you were grateful that he had been there for you. “I love you, da Anna.”
“I love you too, di kannamma.” He hugged you tightly. “Have fun, okay? You deserve it.”
Natasha stood by as she watched the two of you say goodbye to each other. A part of her found it quite warming that the two of you had such a close bond. But unbeknownst to her, she had also admired how genuine and attractive Arjun really was. But that was a story for another time.
Once your brother had returned home, you and Natasha climbed into her car and she began driving towards Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes’ loft apartment. After all, this entire trip had been planned by the formerly chubby-cheeked and crooked-toothed boy whom you used to tutor. Hopefully, he would not mind that his little excursion had been crashed by his high school class’s resident ‘scholar’.

Present Day...
You tossed and turned in bed as you struggled to fall asleep, snuggling up to your pillow a you pulled the duvet over your shivering body. Despite the fact that you had slept in this bed for years, you had a hard time sleeping in it now. It was as though a part of you had forgotten how it felt to be home, which was partly your fault. After all, it had been your choice to leave home after you had graduated from Columbia. Your search for even the slightest of freedom had been satisfied, but coming home had always been a pain in the ass. You could not sleep.
You sat up in your bed as you let out a sigh of exhaustion, leaning your back against the headboard as you looked around your dimly lit childhood bedroom. Letting out a yawn, you reached over to grab your phone from the nightstand to check your notifications, hoping to see some missed call or text message from work so that you could have an excuse to leave the house in the middle of the night, this time through the front door rather than your brother’s bedroom window.
But you had been disappointed to find no messages from the hospital, meaning that you had no choice but to force yourself to go back to bed. Before you could lie back down though, you heard a slight knock on your door. “Kannamma?” Your brother said softly as he knocked. “Thoongittiya, di?”
“No... I can never fucking sleep in this house anymore.” You groaned as you climbed out of bed and made your way over to open the door. “Anna? What the hell are you two doing up at this hour?” You noticed that he was dressed in a pair of slacks and a button down shirt, a half-asleep Natasha standing behind him. “You were on call tonight?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I was... I just got called in. You think you could keep your Anni some company while I’m gone?” He asked you with a chuckle. “She likes you more than me.”
You nodded, giggling slightly as you yawned. “Sure, I guess...” You moved out of the way so that Natasha could enter your room and you let her hug you from behind. “I think she loves me, actually. She loves me more than you.”
“Yeah, keep saying that to yourself.” He mocked you with a playful eye roll before turning over to his future wife. “I’ll see you in the morning, Nat.”
“Drive safe, baby.”
“Bye, da.”You called out to him as he walked away.
Natasha chuckled as she made her way over to your bed and lay down. “I can never get used to this.” She admitted as she climbed under the blanket and stared up at the ceiling for a moment.
You closed the door behind you before walking over to your bed. “You know he doesn’t like working nights. He just has no choice in that matter. He’s trying to get it all sorted out, you know. Hopefully, he can open his own practice at some point.” You admitted. “I on the other hand, I love working nights. I love that I don’t have anyone to go home to, unlike my Anna. Hell, it feels strange not working tonight. I can’t even fucking sleep right now.”
She turned over to face you. “You do work a lot so I guess being single is convenient for you.” She agreed. “But do you ever see yourself... actually having someone to go home to? Getting married and having kids of your own?”
You let out a chuckle before shaking your head. “Did you? Did you ever think you’d be getting married... to anyone, let alone my brother?”
“No, I didn’t... but fate works in weird ways, doesn’t it? It brought you and I together and then... it brought your brother and I together.” Natasha reminded, sighing as she hugged you gently.
“You ever wonder what would have happened if we had never run into each other at the grocery store that day?” You asked her, curiously.
“We wouldn’t be best friends.” She admitted, laughing. “We wouldn’t be family. I think we have Arjun to thank for that night.”
You nodded. “Yeah, I guess... if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be best friends.” And you wouldn’t have fallen in love with Bucky Barnes either.

You covered your ears with your hands as Natasha honked one more time, hopefully the last time she would do so within the last ten minutes. The sound of the never-ending honking must had woken up the entire neighborhood by now, but unfortunately, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes happened to be heavy sleepers.
“Oh for fuck’s sake!” She called out as she rolled down the window. “Steve, Bucky, I swear to fucking God if you don’t get your asses down here in two fucking minutes, I’m leaving without you!” She called out towards the second floor window of the building you had been parked in front of.
Despite the fact that it was way too early in the morning to be causing a scene in the middle of the street, it seemed as though the redhead did not give a shit about any of that. Her friends were both running late and she was certainly not happy about being the only one who had any sense of punctuality between the three of them.
After all, it had been Bucky Barnes’ idea that they drive all the way to The Hamptons at the ass crack of dawn. The least she would have hoped was for the two of them to be ready and waiting for her to arrive. But instead they had both been sleeping on their asses until she pulled up and honked for them to come out. With her lack of sleep causing her to be irritated, she was in no mood to be driving as it was and the boys being late was not helping at all.
It was another few minutes and constant honking before the two boys came running out of their apartment building, their duffel bags and ski gear in hand.
“Jesus Christ, Nat! You probably woke up the entire neighborhood!” Steve Rogers yelled at his friend as he loaded his belongings onto the trunk, followed by Bucky’s.
Bucky Barnes ran his hand through his wet hair that had now frosted up in the cold as he got into the car, his eyebrows furrowing as he noticed the uninvited guest in the backseat. He looked just the same as he did three years ago, the only difference being that he had chopped off his long locks for a shorter hair do. It seemed fitting for the young adult look that he had been trying to pull off lately.
But he still had his high school charm on him, the one that you could not get away from no matter how hard he tried. “Hey... you?!” He looked over at you with a confused expression on his face, noticing that you looked so familiar to him yet he could not place how he had known you. He was just as forgetful as you remembered him to be. “Uh... do I know you from somewhere?”
You raised your eyebrow at him slightly. “You... do???” You swallowed your own drool as you caught yourself staring at him and looked away for a moment, tucking a loose strand of your hair behind your ear as you avoided his eye contact.
“Has your pea brain really forgotten high school that fast, Barnes?” Natasha snickered from the driver’s seat as Steve got in the car, buckling up as he turned around to notice you sitting behind him.
“Y/N Y/L/N?” He gave you a look of surprise, but smiled genuinely happy to see you. “Long time.”
“Hi Steve.” You smiled at him before waving slightly, your eyes darting back to the confused former classmate of yours who had finally managed to recognize you as his former algebra tutor. “I hope you don’t mind me crashing your trip, by the way. Natasha invited me and I couldn’t say no.”
“Y/N?! Oh my God... Scholar Y/N, how could I forget these glasses?” Bucky laughed as he pulled you into a side hug. “It’s been so long, oh my God! How have you been, doll?”
You bit down your bottom lip as you felt yourself blush, slightly taken aback by his rather forward attempt for a reunion hug. “Uh... yeah, I... I’ve been alright.” You did not know what to say as you pushed your glasses up your nose, giggling slightly as you pulled back from him quickly but not as awkwardly as you had feared.
“Jeez, we used to flip a coin to see which one of us gets to sit next to you when we had exams.” Steve recalled with a chuckle as Natasha started the car.
“What? Why?”
“Because whoever won the toss and sat next to you was guaranteed to pass the exam!” Bucky replied, laughing as he shook his head. “You were such a nerd back then, doll.”
“I still am.” You admitted, proudly as you laughed and gave him a playful eye roll. “I take it you’re still skipping class and roaming the town with your camera?” You remembered that Bucky Barnes had a knack for photography, having been involved with the yearbook committee and the school newspaper for multiple years. You had worked closely with him when you had been the editor of the school newspaper during your senior year, so it was not as awkward being in the presence of these three. Thankfully, they were not absolute strangers to you.
“Yeah, I... I’ve been interning with a studio though. Photography is my calling.” He told you as he motioned towards his camera bag next to you. He never left the house without it and he was hoping to document as much of this trip as he possibly could. After all, this was going to be the last trip he was going to take with his friends and neither of them knew that yet.
“So, you still have no plans for going to college then?” You asked him. You remembered that Bucky had initially decided to take a gap year and go traveling after your class had graduated from high school. As Natasha had told you during your drive over to pick up the boys, it turned out that he had not managed to go back to school when he had returned from his trip to Italy.
Bucky bit down on his bottom lip before letting out a sigh. “Not for now...” He told you with a shrug, but it was a partial lie. After all, he had received his acceptance letter for a Journalism and Media Degree in London earlier this month. But he had chosen not to break the news to his friends just yet.
“We’ve actually been saving up our money, Y/N. We’re going to open our own bar in Williamsburg and be business partners, isn’t that right, Buck?” Steve clarified.
He looked up at his best friend with a small smile, but did not nod his head. Unbeknownst to you, the reason behind his silence would eventually cause a drift between all of you by the time this trip came to an end.
Tumblr media
Present Day...
When you and Natasha woke up the next morning, the two of you headed out to mail out the wedding invitations that the two of you had finished packing up the night before. Your best friend turned sister-in-law made it her mission to personally deliver Steve Rogers’ invitation to him, just to make sure that he knew that he had no choice but to attend the wedding. With his current financial situation though, the two of you were sure that he would do anything to avoid the wedding. But Nat was not going to have any of it.
You should not have been so surprise to have walked into an empty restaurant, but you could not help but feel slightly bad about how your friend’s business had taken the turn for the worst. You knew that this was not what Steve had signed up for when he had first purchased this restaurant with all of his savings, but he had kept it going for as long as he could.
Natasha blamed his recent increase in alcohol consumption for his failing business, but you knew that there was more to Steve’s pain that he had resorted to drinking as a coping mechanism. Perhaps, this intervention was a much needed one.
“Ladies...” Steve laughed as he walked out of the kitchen with a cold glass of whiskey in his hand. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”
“Steve, it’s 10 am... what the fuck are you doing, getting drunk this early in the morning?! Give me that glass!” Natasha walked up to him and tried to take his glass from him, only to fail miserably.
“I’m a grown ass man, Nat. I can do whatever the fuck I want...” He muttered carelessly before downing his drink and setting down his glass. “Always goes down easy.”
“Steve...” You sighed as you walked up to him, your lips curling into a frown as you pulled him into a hug. “Steve, come on... I know the restaurant is in a lot of debt right now but drinking your ass off is not going to solve that.”
“Don’t tell me what to do, doctor.” He chuckled as he hugged you back. “If I drink myself all the way to cirrhosis, then that’s my fucking choice.”
“I don’t like what I’m hearing, Rogers.” You admitted, shaking your head at his words. “You’re struggling, buddy. Just admit that you need help and we’re more than happy to throw in a little investment, just to get this place back up and running like it did when it first opened. We hate seeing you like this, you know?”
“No...” He shook his head as he sighed. “I can’t do that, Y/N. You guys... have your own lives and your own shit to worry about. Don’t... waste your time and energy being worried about me or my business.”
“But we are worried about you, you asshole.” Natasha admitted, joining in on the hug. “I’m getting married and I hate that my best friend is... fucking miserable. I hate to see you like this. If you won’t even let us pitch in to keep this place going, then at least stop drinking your days away. The last thing I want is for you to leave me for good like he did. I’ve lost one of you already the way that I did... I can’t lose another friend either.”
“Don’t bring him up, please. I don’t want to talk about him.”
You shook your head at Natasha before you sighed, rubbing Steve’s back as you bit back your tears. “Fine, we don’t have to talk about anything... or anyone. But we have a wedding to get ready for. So, can we at least focus on that for the next few weeks?”
“Fine.” Steve admitted, finally forcing himself to smile a genuine smile. “Anything for my two favorite ladies and you becoming family.”

TOMORROW IS LOUIS BIRTHDAY DFKJDSBJ IM SOOO NERVOUS! 😭💖 HE'S ALMOST 29!!! HOW'S THAT POSSIBLE?! haha how's your day been so far? i should be sleeping now but like... nah i don't think i will. please tell me about diwali! what it is about, what you often do, cook, etc. to celebrate it <3 awwwww really? dsjfns thank you and sending you anons is fun too! <3 specially because i get jokes from you HAHAHAHAHA. and im very close to tell you who i am 👁... have a nice day axi! - 🎅
Hey!!!You are nervous??don’t be!!he’s still gonna look 19 so nothing much except his wikipedia page is gonna change. But ikr how is it already 23??I’m still processing the live concert!!
I’m not gonna tell you the story of why diwali is celebrated unless you really wanna hear because it’s a long one. It’s a pretty big festival for Hindus.Diwali is actually a cluster of festivals so we usually get the whole week off for it.We also give out gifts but not like within the family it’s mostly gifts from one family to other. But i do get money each year on diwali so i’m pretty satisfied with that.
So almost a month before diwali my mom starts this cleaning spree. It’s not any kind of cleaning it is intense cleaning. I remember i used to go to school and come back to an empty room.😂😂 And we decorate our houses with lights, candles and diyas (idk how to explain it’s just like a candle  but not ) and make rangolis. In the evening we have this little ceremony (like a prayer sort of, every family does it in their own way).
Skip this whole para if you want to this is just my ridiculous attempt to explain indian food.So my mum makes something she calls “pakka khanna” which just means cooked food idk why it’s specially called that since all the food is cooked isnt it?? And idk if i can explain the food to you it’s just gonna sound ridiculous so bear with me. So one of them is like this thing made of potatoes and tomato puree with spices( i mean spices are a duh it’s indian food) and then a dish made of pumpkin it’s sweet so i tastes amazing with the spicy dish mentioned above.and then there’s dahi (which is kinda like yogurt but not) and there’s poori (google this you’ll understand).
And ofc it’s so fun to talk to you.Specially since we are from diff. parts of the world we get to know such new things!!
You too have an amazing day!!

Teases a sleeping lion, lands in jail.
This is my story and it is damn long. I am a geek and punk hybrid, sort of. In my country, India, there are 12 grades in school, along with 2 or 3 pre primary grades. My parents had transferrable jobs, so I ended up changing schools a lot. And since private schools won't take new admissions during mid term, I ended up qualifying entrance for central school. I studied there upto grade 8, then decided to go for a boarding school. This school was supposed to be in top 5 schools of India at that time.
Now the story begins after I cleared the written test of the school in morning and was supposed to give interview in evening. There my family acquainted with another from same home town. Their daughter, let's call her Lora, the main antagonist, was behaving like the know it all brat. And since my family had the bad habit of comparing me with other kids, coupled with the pressure of interview, made me go bananas in head.
Well Lora went to give interview first and came out upset, stating she answered only 9 of 10 questions correctly. Well I answered 5 of them and still got selected (it was more of personality test, knowledge was tested in written part). But I had to endure all my family commentary about how "it was just luck" or "you won't survive, the school is full of girls like Lora" till school term started and I started living in hostel.
Now being the ex student of bad government schools, I started suffering mainly because the school was strictly English speaking and my spoken English skill were disaster. I remember, when my teacher asked me why I haven't done my homework, I answered "ma'am I was absent tomorrow". Also this was my first time away from home, so I got homesick too often. Add to it the stress of weekly tests and disgusting (compared to home) hostel food, well I was experiencing hell. So within 3 months, people's perception for me was that was was dumb, shy and that I lacked common sense. Only my hostel mates knew my true nature.
So I was already stressed and this girl Lora thinks it's funny to gang up on me and bully me! Surprising, but it actually happened. Everytime I was alone, she would mock me, told me I was ugly, fat and dumb. I, knowing what would happen if my temper goes off, kept mum. She then raised her bars higher and started using f-words and much more indecent words, all in English. I wasn't bothered by it at all in the beginning, I had heard worse from my last school friends. I was just curious why is she targeting me. Turns out she was mad at me for not helping her cheat in written exam, thereby jeopardizing her chances. Now that she was finally in and I was an established dumb she could have her way with me.
For the whole grade 9 I endured her stuff than I began to crack. But fate was against me: she became the girlfriend of my bestfriend and roommate, let's call him Ed. Honouring bro code, I had to abort the mission and honouring bro code he told me the bottom of iceberg. She spread amongst other girls that I was terminated from my previous school for failing ( I scored 93% in previous grade), my father bribed the school to get me admitted (he had to take loan to pay my term fees), that I smoked ( never smoked in my life, not even now), and that I used to beat up the kids who messed up with me (only right answer). These claims made her a Joan of arc like figure, a lady challenging a demon like me.
Well I endured her insults (covering every part of my body and everyone in my family) for another year. In grade 10 we had our board exams, the first most important exam of an Indian student. There she broke up with Ed, stating he wasn't giving her enough time (he ended up scoring 98.4% with perfect 100 in 3 out of 5 subjects). Well that's one ally for me (as if he wasn't earlier).
Next she hooked up with Rob, my classmate in grade 11. In that time I started using Facebook, new trend at that time. This Rob guy was member of thug like group of the school, hence Lora was intoxicated with power. She commented insults on my every photo on facebook and Rob would like it. I wanted to get back at her, so I commented a passive aggressive thing on her picture (Never knew that I could've blocked her). She, along with Rob came to threaten me when I was having a snack. But since I was surrounded by my hostel mates, they went away. They later ended up stealing my assignment (childish, yeah) but since I never did them earlier, it wasn't a bother.
God, now that I am writing it, it really feels amazing how long I held back. But no more, atleast not after THAT incident.
You see, I was pretty unpopular with existing girls, but I befriended this new girl, let's call her Love. I kinda liked her, I admit. But that Lora somehow sensed that and started bad mouthing me infront of Love. I literally snapped. I wanted some high level revenge.
First I gathered intelligence, Ed being first and after recent breakup, Rob. Summery being: she had new boyfriend every year since grade 7 (basically since her puberty began) and lost virginity in grade 11 to some other punk from school (cause of breakup with Rob?). Well it wasn't something that would give me pleasure after exposing her. I had to take the other way.
I already mentioned my school was too good. In the annual day function of school the guests were generally some VIPs. In my grade 12, the chief guest was the governor of the state! And that was the time Lora celebrated her 18th birthday.
My preparations: I bought a mosquito coil, saved a huge firecracker from Diwali and for almost ₹2000, I obtained 50g pack of marijuana, called raw mango in my area. I spied Lora till I came to know she was gonna do something in girl's room with her new bae on annual day, since everyone would be busy with functions. I then experimented with mosquito coil's burn times and I can proudly say that 3 inches of coil burns for half an hour.
Finalizing: On the annual day, I handed marijuana pack to Ed and setup 12 inches of coil, coupled with the firecracker inside the girl's room, two hours before their meeting. Ed put the marijuana pack in her school bag just when she left the class for auditorium.
And then, while our governor was giving speech, there was a blast heard, prefects ran to the source, found Lora smooching her new bae. She tried to dismiss her hands in blast, so prefects insisted on checking her schoolbag. She agreed, confidently, too confidently. By now, even the guards of the governor came to investigate. Principal and teacher came too, maybe trying to show themselves active. And infront of everyone, a 12 grade schoolgirl was caught with the illegal "raw mango" in her possession!
This wasn't a case school could've hidden, so she was arrested. To hell with her 92.4% in board exams! To hell with here expected all india rank of 15 in mock engineering entrance tests!
It was 9 years ago. I went on to a good engineering college and landed a great job. Never heard of her again. Maybe she is released, I don't know. All I know, that the face she made when the prefects took out marijuana from her bag was priceless!

DO YOU BELIEVE IN KARMA? OR IN THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING WE DO COMES RIGHT BACK AT US LIKE A CIRCLE? LET ME TELL YOU A STORY, A MEMOIR FROM MY LIFE.
ITS THE SECOND DAY OF DIWALI. MA AND I ARE GOING AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD DISTRIBUTING SWEETS FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS, BY DISTRIBUTE I MEAN WE ARE LITERALLY RECYCLING THE SWEETBOXES WE RECEIVED YESTERDAY. MAKING ONLY A SLIGHT CHANGE.WE RING THE BELL OF A VERY WELL LIT DOOR, THE SHARMAS NEVER COMPROMISE ON LOOKS.
WE ARE GREETED BY MRS.SHARMA'S BEAMING FACE, HER SMILE EXPOSING TEETH BRIGHTER THAN THE LIGHTS HANGING OVER THEIR DOOR.
'HAPPY DIWALI NEETU!!' 'HAPPY DIWALI CHOTTE!' SHE GREETS US IN THE SWEETEST OF TONES AND LETS US IN; NOW WHEN I SAID THAT THE SHARMAS NEVER COMPROMISE ON LOOKS, I WAS DEAD SERIOUS.
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND IMAGINE THIS.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE HALLWAY, A BEAUTIFUL RANGOLI FORMING A MAJESTIC PEACOCK WITH THE MOST CALMING EYES.
THE LIGHTS, A SIMPLE YET MAJESTIC GOLDEN COLOUR STRUNG ACROSS THE WALLS LOOKING LIKE FAIRY DUST.
NOT A CORNER IN THE HOUSE LEFT DARK OR DIMLY LIT.
A TEMPLE CONTAINING ALL THE DEITIES YOU CAN NAME OR THINK OF, EACH ONE SHOWERED WITH FLOWERS AND LOOKING LIKE THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO GRANT A BOON TO ANYONE.
AND FINALLY, IN THE LIVING ROOM, A PILE OF SWEETS GRANDLY LAID OUT LIKE A BUFFET.
I GO TO THE KITCHEN WHERE SEVERAL BOXES LIKE THE ONE I AM HOLDING HAVE ALREADY BEEN LAID OUT, ONLY I KNOW WHAT MAKES OUR BOX DIFFERENT, REMEMBERING THE NOTE.
'AN AUSPICIOUS AND SAFE DIWALI TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, FROM THE NAWANIS.'
I GO BACK TO THE LIVING ROOM AND HELP MY SELF TO A FEW SWEETS WHEN MA REMINDS ME OF MY ONGOING DIET AND HOW I AM RUINING IT.
SILENTLY I MAKE MY WAY TO THE BALCONY, WHICH HAS EVEN MORE OF THE FAIRY DUST STRUNG ALONG IT. I TOLD MA ABOUT HOW I AM IMPROVING MY DIET AND NOW SHE'S THE SELF APPOINTED WARDEN THAT TAUNTS ME EVERYTIME I LOOK AT FOOD WITH MORE CALORIES THAN I NEED.
I GO BACK OUT AND I HEAR MA AND SHARMA AUNTY TALKING ABOUT MRS. PAWAR FROM ACROSS THE STREET AND HOW SHE HAS NOT COME TO VISIT.
WOMEN.
LOVE TO TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. ITS SCARY TO BE HONEST.
SOON MA AND SHARMA AUNTY RUN OUT OF THINGS TO SAY AND WE LEAVE. NOT BEFORE I SNEAK IN A LADDOO AND ANOTHER ONE, I WILL BE HAVING A FEAST TODAY.
THE NEXT MORNING ROLLS AROUND, I WAKE UP TO THE SOUND OF OUR BELL GOING OFF, I OPEN THE DOOR AND VOILA! ITS THE GUEST OF THE HOUR MRS. PAWAR!!
MA COMES OUT TO GREET HER AND THEY CATCH UP, I GO TO THE KITCHEN AND FILL THE ALREADY TIRED FIGURE OF MRS.PAWAR A GLASS OF WATER AND ITS NOT BECAUSE IT IS HOT OUT HERE, LET ME JUST SAY THAT GIVING ME COMPANY ON MY DIET MAY NOT BE A BAD IDEA FOR HER. I RETURN TO THE HALL AND GIVE HER THE GLASS OF WATER AND A PLATE OF SNACKS, SHE REFUSES THE SNACKS, 'I WAS AT THE SHARMAS PLACE AND I HAD MY FILL, I WILL START MY DIET TOMORROW ON WARDS.' I SEND A NOD HER WAY AND FLASH THE MOST POLITE SMILE.
'OH SO YOU MET ANU THIS MORNING FINALLY?' ASKED MA
'YEAH, I WAS DOWN WITH THE FLU SO I DID NOT REALLY CELEBRATE DIWALI THIS YEAR.'
'OOH BEFORE I FORGET, HERE TAKE THIS GRISHI, I BROUGHT THIS IT ON THE WAY HERE, KEEP IT IN THE KITCHEN.' SAYS PAWAR AUNTY HANDING ME A BOX OF SWEETS. I LOOK TOWARDS MA AND SHE IS SMILING THE KIND OF SMILE YOU DONT EVER WANT TO SEE, I SILENTLY TAKE THE BOX TO THE KITCHEN.
I HEAR MA AND MRS.PAWAR AUNTY GO TO DISCUSSING THE FLU, TOLD YA IT WAS SCARY.
UNDER A SECOND OF TEMPTATION I SNATCH THE BOX AND TAKE IT TO MY ROOM.
I UNDO THE TAPE.
I SLOWLY LIFT THE BOX COVER.
AND FREEZE.
A NOTE FELL OUT,
'AN AUSPICIOUS AND SAFE DIWALI TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, FROM THE NAWANIS.'
I CHUCK THE NOTE AND HELPING MYSELF TO THE SWEETS I CHUCKLE AS I REMEMBER MA SLIPPING IN THE NOTE BEOFRE WE LEFT.
WHAT GOES AROUND DOES COME AROUND

Fest-peeved !
I now despise the years with too many long weekends. So much pressure to plan holidays ! Actually holiday planning isn’t as bad as the pressure to look good and wear good. My ideal holiday will be without phones/cameras and in awful looking shorts-faded tshirts, frizzy hair, beach and only laughter. You take that darned 10 MP camera out, and all I can think of are triple chins and jumbo thighs. And when the family slideshow begins, it’s like waiting for your frikkin board results. Isn’t it, now? And listen, you have a kid right? Double the pressure. Coz then junior has to look/pose/wear equally good. Damn you-long weekends !
So after much haggling on month ends and busy work seasons, Diwali was our chosen vacay-time ! Goa it was. To this, the people who actually said “Diwali pe Goa kaun jata hai” were more than the people who wished me happy diwali. Really. Anyway, the bulk watsapp festive forwards are my absolute favourite to wake up to on holy-days ! But then you know the bloody joke’s on you, when you’re in Goa-have not touched the beach yet-plan to take junior to her first pool visit ever- and the Red Gods decide to descend on you ! bwahahaha ! Behold the grumps ! But wait, there are pics to be clicked ya ! With immense bloated happiness. (with all possible puns intended)
And dude ! what’s with the schools celebrating every festival these days. I had to have 3 different sets of “traditional” clothes for junior ready before H2. And have you noticed the pressure mothers have on them, because of this? My BP is flying quite high on those mornings when junior and I are playing dressing up. Too much vanity for my liking. Eyeroll. She is exactly like me, when i was small. Ya ya, goes around..whatever !
Also H2 marked the start of me reading full-time again. And I looked forward to finishing my current book on the holiday. So just like no one told me about everyday mom-injuries, they did not tell me about vacations with toddlers. Duh ! You do NOT read books on these vacations, you carry around an over-exhausted, always hungry, always susu-aaya-hai, extremely irritable from running around, 12+ kg toddler. Coz obviously the 3 other adults present in this arrangement seem to her like Draculas when they offer to take her. And THEN my dear, you sit down to eat. You know it’s coming. You re dreading it, avoiding looking at her completely, in denial. When she sings it in your ears. Mummaaaa ! Potty aayiii haiii. BAZINGA!
But you look back and you still smile at the memories, the laughter, the toddler talk, the goofed up pictures. There are very few things in life, that give you as much joy as seeing your kid with your parents. And then it all feels worth it. Yes it’s not as surreal and primitive as looking at those printed vacation albums and trying to remember what happened 2 days after and before a photograph was taken in 1991. But as I stood towering above the Agonda beach with dad, looking at the waves and junior’s flying hair and grin, looking at the better-half descending down the stones carefully with mum, I realize that memories are our own to make: with or without the 10 MP. We choose what to remember. And I choose this, the wind and the water and the smiles J
PS: It is Halloween dress-up tomorrow.

How are things? I hope everything is OK. We are busy nowadays because tomorrow is Eid ul-Fitr. At the moment, my mom is cleaning the house and my sister is cooking for tomorrow. My dad is at the shopping centre and he’s buying some cookies, candies and sweets for our guests. We visit our relatives during Eid ul-Fitr, and they to us too. Guess what? I am very excited about tomorrow. I can become rich! I kiss elders’ hands on bairams and receive lots of money! Next year I hope you can join me too.

A fitness-focused New Year’s resolution that’s worth making. Plus 10 real-world ways to actually keep that resolution.
I’ve finally found a fitness-focused New Year’s resolution that’s worth making. And here it is, along with 10 client-proven ways to reach your own health and fitness goals this year.
++++
If you’re reading this, it means you survived the holidays.
It’s the most wonderful (crazy, stressful, awesome, magical) time of the year.
You know the drill: Kids and toys everywhere. In-law invasions. And get this: My 6-year-old daughter and I found reindeer tracks in the backyard on Christmas morning again this year, ha!
The Berardi Family with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Amid all the craziness — in fact, because of the craziness — my wife and I decided to break tradition and actually make New Year’s Resolutions this year.
Ordinarily it’s not something we would do.
In fact, it’s not something we would ordinarily suggest you do either. Especially if your resolutions typically involve detoxes or juice cleanses, or chasing an unrealistic level of leanness.
Stats on New Year’s Resolutions — especially fitness ones — are abysmal. Packed gyms on January 2 are ghost towns on March 2.
I thought about this the other day while driving home from a family function (and while trying to keep Kid #1 from punching Kid #2).
At Precision Nutrition, we often use the phrase:
“Fitness in the context of a real human life…”
What does “real life” actually mean?
It means something like this:
All 4 kids are sick (at the same time), so you’re getting virtually no sleep…
Your mother-in-law is going through cancer treatment and you visit daily…
It’s Christmas/Thanksgiving/Passover/Diwali/Eid or the long weekend…
Because of the holiday, you’ve got a tight deadline at work…
When you’re stressed your lower back acts up…
And just as you’re about to head out for the blessed 30-minute workout you’ve been looking forward to all day, your dog drops a diarrhea poop on the living room carpet.
That, my friends, is fitness in the context of a real human life.
So, is it any wonder most fitness resolutions fail?
If you think about it, most health and fitness plans live outside the context of a real life:
“Here’s a 30-day detox diet to follow… and a new hardcore workout DVD…”
“Why not do a fitness competition in April… and a triathlon in August…”
“It’s time to go all-in… it’s the only way to win!”
Except that it’s not. Because all-or-nothing thinking rarely gets you all. It usually gets you nothing.
That diet plan, or workout DVD, or one-size-fits-all training program you pulled from Triathlon magazine was never built to accommodate sick kids or cancer treatment or your co-worker’s two-week vacation.
Yet when the insane idea that you have to do all things perfectly takes hold, it’s pretty hard to shake loose.
Sure, we can play make-believe. We can imagine a life where everything is peaceful, calm, and totally in our control all the time. But that’s a surefire recipe for failure.
Real human lives are messy and complicated. Real human lives are unpredictable.
When we learn to accept this, they can also be dynamic and exciting. They can push us to grow.
Therefore, this year’s resolution.
With 4 children, aging parents, active social lives, and thriving businesses — my wife and I really did make New Year’s Resolutions this year.
As we always do, we plan on continuing to prioritize our health, build strength and fitness, and maybe even maintain our abs.
But this year we’ll do it flexibly and honestly in the context of our real human lives.
Our children will be fevered, snotty, and barfy. Our time will be limited. And we’ll miss last call at the gym because of doggie poo.
Yet this year we’ll plan for all that in advance.
After we’ve cleaned up the poo, we might work out in that same living room. With no weights or machines, maybe we’ll jump around like maniacs so we can move our bodies while keeping an eye on the kids.
Or maybe we’ll be stuck eating nasty hospital food. If so, we’ll make the best choice we can within the spectrum of choices. And then do push-ups and air squats in the cafeteria, or walk laps around the cancer center.
And on those rare days we’re not dealing with emergencies?
Maybe we’ll soothe our control-freak souls with a luxurious, 2-hour, relaxed, well-rounded workout. Or a weekend of cooking healthy food to prep meals before a busy week. (Even though neither is actually required.)
It’s not easy. But at least we have a plan.
You know, all this got me thinking…
How are our clients doing it?
I run a nutrition and fitness coaching company, so when it comes to figuring out health and fitness in the context of real life, I’m sitting on a virtual pot of gold.
Clients go through our coaching program for a year, and with the help of our expert coaches, sort out just that: How to make their health and fitness goals a reality, even as the chaos of life continues.
So I decided to ask them which new strategies they’ve developed to make it all work — nutrition + snotty kids + work deadlines… all of it.
They responded with dozens of great tips for real-life healthy living. Here are some of the most common (and awesome) ones we heard.
1. Check in with yourself every morning.
“I start my day with reading my Precision Nutrition Coaching lesson. It’s essentially plugging into myself first thing every morning. By doing the program work when I wake up, I remind myself that when I am healthy and happy, I have more to give to the world.”
2. Eat protein at breakfast.
“I include protein at every breakfast. My favorite: breakfast meatballs. Turkey + shredded veggies (zucchini, carrot, celery and onion), quick oats, egg whites and spices made into balls and cooked in muffin trays in advance. Then I heat ‘em up in the morning.”
3. Bring a lunch you’re excited to eat.
“I bring a lunch that is a simple salad with (quality) lunch meat for protein. Adding little extras like seeds and nuts to my salad along with avocado makes it something I look forward to eating, instead of leftovers that I would rather leave behind when others are going out.”
4. Pre-prep dinners.
“PREP! This has been huge for me. I come home late and I’m often rushed to get food in me. Now I just take everything I’ve already cut up or cooked (in advance) and put it in a pan. It’s a much less ‘rush-y’ situation, which carries over into eating… so I’m eating slowly and not inhaling food right past my full point.
5. Eat at the table.
“In the past, I ate dinner in a rush, then ran off to the next activity (soccer, coaching, etc.). I have been making a conscious effort to sit down and slowly eat the meal, so I can actually remember tasting and enjoying it.”
6. Exercise whenever, wherever, and however possible.
“I never choose the closest parking spot. This way I can get in a little more walking. Also during the school day (I’m a teacher), I walk as much as possible around my classroom as students are working, and around the building.”
7. Aim for “a little better” instead of “perfect”.
“It’s not about being perfect. It’s about gradual and continuous improvement. I used to get really down on myself if I ate unhealthy or missed some workouts and felt like I had failed. Now I feel that I’ve put in some great work, and I can do even better tomorrow and next week.”
8. Get all sorts of support.
“I use a meal service for healthy meals, which are pre-portioned. I commute an hour each way to/from work and I work long hours as an attorney, so having the ingredients there with recipes has helped immensely.”
9. Find accountability.
“My coach consistently reaches out to me, and the PN lessons remind me to move daily and claim the day for myself.  Doing those things before I head out to work keep me focused. It reminds me this is my life and my choices can be life-affirming in every moment.”
10. Show up again the next morning.
“Show up each day and do what you can on that day. Don’t jump ahead. This is not a race. It’s not a diet. It’s your life.”
What could your “real life resolution” look like?
My wife and I have no clue what life will bring us this coming year.
But we’re committed to doing the best we can, when we can, with whatever we’ve got. Day in and day out.
I hope you are too.
With the New Year around the corner, it’s an interesting time to make (or renew) your commitment to health and fitness.
Why not do that while considering the context of your own unique, interesting, and (no doubt) challenging life?
What to do next
1. Consider your health and fitness goals for this coming year.
What does a renewed commitment to health and fitness look for YOU — in the context of YOUR own unique, interesting and challenging life? How could you aim to make things “a little bit better” this year, instead of “perfect or nothing”?
2. Celebrate your accomplishments from the past year.
Even if there’s lots you want to change, think back and call out at least two or three things you did well this past year.
Give yourself a pat on the back for any and all signs of progress, no matter how small.
3. Plan for things to go wrong.
What challenges do you anticipate might interfere with the progress you want to make?
Think about those roadblocks now. Consider some adjustments and workarounds in advance.
Accepting the messy “real-life” stuff will be key to your success.
4. Start small.
What is one little thing you could do today to help you prepare for success this year?
Maybe it’s researching a healthy meal delivery service for busy weeks, downloading a relaxing meditation podcast, or booking a babysitter one evening a week.
Take one small action now, and you’ll already be on your way.
5. Take inspiration from PN clients.
Do any of the strategies above intrigue you? Pick one and give it a shot.
If you usually eat dinner on the go, try sitting down for a meal at the table. If you want accountability, find someone to check in with.
Remember, you don’t have to get it “perfect”. Not now, not ever.
All you have to do is make an effort, and keep showing up every day.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Scene 1 Zara says to Kabir that Reema just wants you to be part of her happiness like I have been since childhood. Kabir says but becoming part of someone’s religious festive is against islam, ask Irfan. Irfan says its right that we cant part of prayers of other religions but becoming part of their happiness is not wrong. Zara says to Reema that you asked Islam doesnt allow to mingle with other religions but its a liberal religion, we dont discriminate between people, Islam tell us to help our neighbors, if they are in pain and we are not helping then its on us, its not a condition that neighbor have to be muslim, their religion is not defined, if we can share their pain then why not celebrate their happiness? She says to Kabir that you must know a story, an old man kept a fast to please God, one man brought juice for him and said that if you drink it then I will be happy, old man broke his fast and drank it, when people asked, old man said that its better to break fast rather than break someone’s heart, he can fast later but human’s happiness is more than that. She says to Kabir that you bringing religion inbetween Reema’s happiness. Kabir says no, I asked you to go, I never went to her house to celebrate diwali so I dont think that it will matter if I go or not. Zara says how can I be happy without you? all my happiness are related to you, I told you that I would go with you only otherwise no. Irfan says you both are half right, my decision is that Kabir should go to Reema’s house, it wont affect his religion, or relation with God. Kabir stares at Zara and silently leaves from there. Zara says to Reema that I am sorry that we couldnt celebrate small diwali function but I am sure that Kabir will come with me to big function, dont worry. Reema hugs her. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Doctor checks Ruksaar and asks nurse to take care of her. Reema says to Zara that if Kabir is stubborn then dont come to function, I dont want it to be a trouble for your relation. Zara says he didnt say no, you havent loved so you dont know, I am sure, he will agree, he has to, he loves me. They come out of house and sees Kabir waiting there. Zara says to Reema that he couldnt leave me so how could he not agree with me, I will come to function, Reema hugs her and leaves. Zara sits in car and says you were waiting for me? Kabir says I brought you, so its my duty to take you back. They start driving. Zara says can I ask a thing? Kabir says wives keep asking, you will ask me where I am going, what should you wear and stuff like that. Zara says you didnt answer because you have agreed to come to diwali party? you cant see your wife in tears? you know that if you dont go then I will not go and then I will cry whole night and I will taunt you for life so you thought its better to go to party. Kabir says no, if I am saying no then it means I am not going, if you are thinking why I didnt say no infront of all then I did it to not break Reema’s heart. Zara says I am sure you would turn. He says what? She says leave it. Kabir stops car and asks her to get down. She asks why? Kabir says its my car and I am asking you to get down. She gets down. He says I am booking taxi for you, I am going to meet Ruksaar. Zara says I will go wtih you. Kabir gets down and says now you felt bad? when I didnt tell you whole thing? you were doing same for me. He says you think I would leave the person whom I love the most? Zara says I will tell you in evening. Zara and Kabir comes to Ruksaar’s ward. Zara checks and says she has fever. Kashan says yes, Zeenat was tensed so I sent her home. Doctor comes there and says she is recovering, we recorded CCTV footage. Footage shows Ruksaar moving her hands and feet. Kabir and Zara smile seeing it. Doctor says there is nothing to worry, he leaves. Kabir and Zara are in car, Kabir says soon I will be yours completely when Ruksaar wakes up. Zara smiles and says you know the meaning of becoming mine fully? Zara says you will have to fulfill my wishes. Kabir says like? Zara says like if you like tea and I like coffee then I will start drinking tea too, true love is to give yourself completely to someone, where our happiness become one, you get happy to see me happy and vice versa. Kabir says so I am fully yours? Zara says ask yourself, if you were mine then Ruksaar wouldnt be in your life, if you were fully mine then you wouldnt break my friend’s heart, we dont know when Ruksaar will wake up but you can come to Reema’s party and prove that you are fully mine. Kabir looks on. They stop at a signal, a kid comes to Kabir and asks him to buy firecrackers, he has to pay for school. Kabir is about to give him money but Zara says we dont buy diwali stuff. Kabir looks on and gives him money, he takes lanterns and firecrackers from him, kid wishes him diwali, Kabir says happy diwali, kid leaves. Zara says pinch me, you are wonderful. She smiles at him. Scene 2 Kabir and Zara comes home. Zara smiles and says we will go to diwali party. Kabir says I have some work and leaves. Zeenat thinks I thought they would be fighting but its something else here. Ayesha says I didnt know Kabir would agree. Alina and Ayesha says we will go. Zara asks Shahbaz if he will come? Shahbaz says some friends called me so I cant come, say sorry to Reema. Zara looks at Zeenat. Zeenat says dont even ask me, Ruksaar has fever. Zara says doctor said that fever is good, it shows she will come to consciousness soon. Zara comes in room and sees Kabir packing, she asks where are you going? Kabir says a client called and said that you must not be celebrating diwali so come to Dubai for a meeting. Zara is stunned and says you are not going to Reema’s house? Kabir says why are you stubborn? when did I say I will go? I am not going very far, I will come tomorrow. Zara says I thought you would come to Reema’s house with me, you ate that ghujia too. Kabir says I ate them because you made them, I helped that kid as he needed school fees, it has nothing to do with diwali party. He calls and says you are outside to take me to airport? I am coming, he ends call and says to Zara that I know I might hurt you, I am sorry, she looks away. Kabir takes his bag and says goodbye. Zara doesnt even look at him as he leaves. Zara says he really broke my heart today. PRECAP- Irfan says to Kabir that your project to teach kids has been sanctioned by All India board and you will be given financial aid, you will have to go abroad to present it in conference. Zara and Kabir are elated to hear that. Update Credit to: Atiba

KARWA-CHAUTH : MY TAKE
Any day that we celebrate or observe, has been marked on the calendar for a specific reason. Like every year people party on New Year’s Eve, to bring in the New Year. At midnight there is loud music, dancing, drinking, hugging and kissing in public places. Isn’t it just another day? But it’s an occasion to party none the less!
Tumblr media
Raksha Bandhan is the day when girls tie Rakhi to their brothers, and seek their protection. Does that mean that a sister is weaker than the brother? No? But the festival of Rakhi is still celebrated because it is an occasion to celebrate the brother-sister relationship.
At Dussehra time, the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbkarn are burnt in thousands of places all over the country. Why? Isn't Ravana long since dead and gone? It is to remind us what the end of evil is like!
On Diwali we celebrate the home coming of Lord Rama. Why do we do it every year? If He came home last year, then why did He go away? How come we invite Goddess Lakshmi every year to visit us on Diwali? Why doesn't she come and stay on forever? There is no end to the questions in a logical mind. But somewhere we have to stop. Why? Because all said and done, we do enjoy the festivity around Diwali. We enjoy the sweets and the Deepmala; dressing up and decorating our homes. It is just an excuse to get festive that we look forward to, no matter what!
The popular folk songs sung at Punjabi weddings like Latthe di chaadar, kala doriya, jutti meri … are absolutely meaningless and irrelevant for the sophisticated, urbanite woman of today, but nevertheless they are still sung for the festivity and fun that comes with them!
Our forefathers ascertained the dates for Holi, Ganesha Chaturthi, Rakhi, Navrathri, Dushehra, Diwali etc. according to the Lunar Calendar. A lot of thought has been put in to plan when, what and how to celebrate.
Lohri comes in winter when it’s fun to have a bonfire and munch on peanuts and gachhak. Diwali comes at the beginning of the winter when one enjoys lighting lamps and the evening is pleasant to enjoy the Deepmala.
As a little girl I was always enamoured by Karwa Chauth. Etched in my memory is Mama’s image dressed up in a maroon and gold silk saree, glass bangles, sindoor and jewellery. Of late I am hearing of a lot of hostility from young girls about why they should fast for their husbands. I just thought of sharing my thoughts. We are all entitled to our own views. We can even agree to disagree.
Perhaps we would all have heard the story of Veerawati, who had five brothers and was tricked into thinking that the moon had risen, by her brothers. After she ate her food, her husband became unconscious. It is said that the body of the husband was full of pins and needles. Veerwati spent the year removing the needles from his body. Towards the end, she went out for a bit, to buy a Karwa (a mud pot) for the Karwa Chauth fast. Meanwhile the maid removed the last of the needles and the man became conscious. He thought that the maid was his wife. But Veerawati kept the Karwa Chauth fast and eventually her husband realized the truth and came back to her. Well, the story is a legend and I really have nothing to say about it. But let me tell you a beautiful interpretation of it.
I remember one Karwa Chauth when my mother had a lot of her friends over for the Pooja in the evening and Panditji recited the story aforesaid. After the Pooja, all the aunties were chit-chatting. My father had been watching the Pooja and listening to the Katha too. He said, the pins and needles are the harsh words the couple say to each other. They are the ones that prick so hard that our mind becomes numb (becomes unconscious so to say). When we make up, those pins and needles lose their sting. The fast is a day to celebrate the relationship of loving and caring between married couples.
Let’s look at it this way. Women, whether young or old, love to dress up. The Karwa Chauth fast starts with the morning Sargi wherein, it’s no less than a party at dawn. It is the day when every woman is pampered by her mother-in-law to eat all the nice things at Sargi. Paranthas, Feni, Fruit, mithai ... you name it and you can have it.
The Katha story narrative says that the lady should not do things like spinning the loom, cleaning up, cutting and chopping, weaving ... Why? Because today she is a VIP! She is the pampered one. To top it all she can indulge in Henna. While the Mehndi is wet, a woman has to obviously abstain from work. So she can put her feet up and relax! In the days gone by the women folk would spend their day in doing household chores. So the narrative of the festive song absolved them from all of that for the day. Given that in modern times a large number of women work in offices just as men do, they find the song funny and even gross. But could the women then, have conceived of a song that could absolve women from modern day activities like computing, designing, driving, teaching etc.? Same as the wedding folk songs, right? Let’s just understand the thought behind the entire thing.
The goodies that are available in the market a day before, like mathi and feni are all high calorie food. The idea is that the woman who is fasting should not have to cook for the family, so other options are made available. So think of it this way ... Karwa Chauth is a day when a woman is licensed to spend the day praying or dressing up, decking up, wearing her finest clothes and jewels ... she can put henna, wear flowers in her hair, sindoor, glass bangles, bindi, kajal, pyal, bichhuae etc. It's all about the mind-set.  It's all about doing what you are happy doing! So why crib?
Every woman enjoys grooming herself. Do we even want the men to indulge in cosmetics and jewels? Some things are best left to the women alone! Also, God made women more resilient and capable of sacrifice and giving love. Sacrificing and loving never weakens a woman, it makes her stronger!
The point I am trying to make is this. It doesn't matter what the story and the song say. What matters is that on this day a woman can express her love for her husband and celebrate and share the joy and partake of a celebration of sorts with married women. Don’t we go off food while dieting? How difficult is it anyways to fast after hogging on Sargi at dawn? And look at the fun and party that comes alongside? You give some; you get some …
There is a trend whereby girls are demanding that the husband too should fast for them. Honestly why do we want to share the pampering and the girlie fun? Speaking for myself I wouldn't want my husband to fast for me. This is my day to be pampered as well as pamper my daughters-in-love. And as far as praying for his long life is concerned, we know for a fact that each one's time of passing on is determined by God alone. But, at the same time there is great power in prayer. If I can pray for my children's well-being; if I can pray for a friend in distress, why can I not pray for the long life of my husband? Yes! I want to exit the world before him because I treasure his presence by my side and I know that I cannot manage without him. When it is time to go, I want to go first. Don't we insist on ‘ladies first’ as an etiquette? So here too, I want my husband to hold my hand and see me off first! I shall fast for him not because of any societal pressure but because I want to and I find pleasure in so doing.
Come to think of it, Valentine's Day is another day to express love between couples. Why do we not question it? Why is it cool to ape the West and denounce what belongs to us and is deeply ingrained in our culture and belief?
Let’s not doubt our beliefs,
Let's not believe our doubts.
Let’s own what is ours and do so with aplomb!
Girls! Let me tell you that it won't matter if you don't observe Karwa-Chauth. Nothing will happen to your husbands. As I said before everything is pre-destined. But you shall surely miss out on the joy of celebrating love and marital bliss. You shall miss out on the fun of dressing up; the Sargi in the morning and the friends and family get-together in the evening; the fun and romance of the Pooja on a moonlit night and all the love and pampering alongside!
Today the so called liberated and modern mind set is questioning Karwa-Chauth. Tomorrow it will be Diwali. Next in line will be Holi and Rakhi … all that we shall be left with would be Halloween, Valentine’s … And Diwali shall be celebrated only in the White House … What say?
