autobiography.
fan!sung jinwoo x author!fem.reader
{ got stains on my t-shirt and i'm the biggest flirt | right now i'm solo, but that will be changing eventually, oh | got bruises on my heart and sometimes i get dark | if you want my auto, want my autobiography | baby, just ask me... }
anonymous said: Brainrot of my day: Imagine an author Reader and Booknerd Jinwoo, when he was still an E rank hunter he liked to read her work lot and when he became a well known hunter she was inspired by him to make a biography about him so she reaches out and imagine how flattered he was when she reached out! His favorite author wanting to make a biography. About him?? EEEEEE
you were absolutely fascinated with the seemingly sudden cinderella story that took the form of a new and upcoming hunter that went by the name sung jinwoo.
with your reading glasses settled across your eyes, you did some extensive research on jinwoo and ran across various news articles detailing all of his latest successes and raids. your hands itched with the desire to open a fresh document and draft everything that you knew about him so far-
ah, but you were getting ahead of yourself.
being a well-known author, you have written a plethora of novels since your early 20s, even managing to reach the bestseller's list quite a few times as well. your face was plastered against the back covers of each novel that you published, and the fans that you had would always recognize you immediately, taking photos with you or asking if you could sign a copy of your novels for them.
you were a mere civilian, but you were incredibly happy that your passion for writing helped give you somewhat of a celebrity status. your name wasn't as well-known as the hunters surrounding the world, but in your opinion, you were known enough by the right amount of people.
as you read through each article and watched the videos that featured south korea's latest, s-rank hunter, you had the desire to somehow reach out to jinwoo himself.
after all, biographies were written with the sole purpose of celebrating that person's life-
so long as you had that person's permission.
you lean back in your seat, grabbing the cup of coffee from your desk as you took a sip of it whilst deep in thought. with your fingertips hovered over the keys once more, you type in the website for the korean hunter's association branch, searching through the site until you reached a section that read most notable hunters.
clicking on the link, you scroll down until you see jinwoo's name. you open up jinwoo's profile and keep scrolling down until you saw his contact information, noticing his email address:
cracking your knuckles, you open your email account and begin typing out your message to the hunter you were desperate to write about.
{ ... }
from: [email protected]
subject: would you like a biography written about you?
hello! you may know me as the author of some books, most notably true blue and the aurora syndrome (and if you've never read any of my books, that's okay too!)
long story short, i'm an author and would like your permission to come and meet with you- maybe even interview you and write a biography about you? i am truly so awed by your story and would love to learn more about you!
reply back when you can-
(i really hope you'll agree to meet me!)
signing off~
{ ... }
"HOLY SHIT THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING TO ME!"
before sung jinwoo could further bask in this unexpected email that he had received, jinho bursts into his office, panic written all over his features as he calls out to him.
"boss, are you alright?! what happened?!"
he could feel the heat traveling up his neck and upwards towards his ears, making jinwoo force a smile when he waves off jinho's concern all while trying to maintain a neutral face. "oh, it's nothing, ah... my favorite soccer team just scored another win and i got really excited."
jinho gives jinwoo a look of suspicion, not quite believing him. however, not one to question his president, jinho shrugs before leaving the office.
"let me know if you need anything, boss, i'll be around."
giving jinho one last (albeit stiff) nod, the hunter waits with bated breath for his vice president to leave before letting out a shaky breath.
"holy shit."
to say jinwoo was freaking out would be the understatement of the century. jinwoo's favorite author of all times had reached out to him (him!) with desires to write a biography about him.
his mind was spinning, and he actually had a copy of the aurora syndrome with him right now. jinwoo adored your stories, but the aurora syndrome held a special place in his heart. in the novel, the protagonist was a young adult who suffered from narcolepsy, and it spoke about their day to day life while dealing with such a disorder.
in many ways, jinwoo could relate to that protagonist (especially during the time where he was still labeled as the weakest hunter in the world), since they were known to be self-conscious and meek, but was slowly able to come out of their shell thanks to the support of their family and friends.
and the same author of such an amazing novel (aka YOU) wished to write a book about him?!
the young hunter's head couldn't stop spinning. he kept pacing around his office, pinching himself every so often to make sure that he wasn't dreaming.
after reading (and rereading) your email at least a hundred times, jinwoo's hands begin to tremble when he goes back to his desktop pc. fingertips trained over the keyboard, he begins typing out his reply to you-
(a feat that ends up taking an hour or so due to the sheer amount of times he had to write and rewrite the same message over and over again to make sure that it was perfect for you.)

from: [email protected]
REPLY: would you like a biography written about you?
i am honestly so honored to have you writing a biography about me!
my story isn't much, just a series of events that just proves how lucky i am.
i've taken some time off for you and your interviews, is 2 weeks enough?
reply back when you're able to... and let me know if my arrangements work well for you.
sincerely,
sung jinwoo
{ ... }
you were pleasantly surprised when jinwoo got back to you within mere hours of receiving your email. due to his quick rise in fame, you thought that you would be left on read for at least a month or so.
"hm, perhaps sung jinwoo is more down-to-earth than i expected?"
a strange warmth fills you at the thought, and you truly were grateful to jinwoo for taking the time out of his day to get back to you so quickly.
just as you were going to send another email to talk further about the details, you receive yet another new email notification from jinwoo. curious as to what he sent, you open up his email and felt your eyes going wide in response.
xxx xxx - xxxx | sung jinwoo
call me?
now this was new. were you overthinking things, or was jinwoo actually eager to speak to you?
you shake your head at the thought, feeling a bit flabbergasted yourself. not wanting to squander this amazing opportunity, you take out your cellphone and type in the numbers seen on the screen. with your heart was racing in anticipation, you let out a deep breath before calling the hunter directly.
the other line rings a few times and you were pleasantly surprised to hear jinwoo pick up the phone on its second ring.
"h-hello?" you were dimly aware of the sounds of shuffling on the other end, clearing your throat as you began your end of the conversation.
smiling into the phone, you introduce yourself by full name, "thank you so much for allowing me the pleasure of doing this- ah, of calling you, i mean."
"oh, y-yeah, it's no problem at all!" a series of nervous, high-pitched laughter was heard coming from the other end. "s-sorry for acting w-weird but, i never expected my favorite author to contact me about their desire to write my b-biography."
the warmth seems to spread throughout your body upon hearing his admission. "what? are you kidding me? who wouldn't want to write a biography about you! your story is amazing, mr. sung!"
"jinwoo." his grave voice catches you off guard momentarily.
"ah, wait a minute... you're actually allowing me to call you by your first name?"
"i don't see why not, b-because i assure you, i've admired you for far longer than you have admired me. your novels have truly changed my life."
you felt your smile widen as you continued speaking to him, "and may i ask what books of mine that you have read?"
jinwoo's voice becomes a bit more passionate now, and you listen to him rant about every single novel you had written thus far, a fact that made your cheeks feel warm as an even wider grin spreads across your face.
sung jinwoo had to be your number one fan.
"well mr- i mean, jinwoo, you have just made my day! actually, since you've pretty much read all of my novels, you must know that your biography will be my first time writing a non-fictional story?"
"of course, that's why i can't stop my heart from pounding with excitement. i've always loved you- i mean, your work."
he seems to have realized his slip up, quickly covering it up so that you would not mention it when he asks you if you agreed to spend the next two weeks with him, making you do another yet another double take.
"whoa, seriously? you're letting me meet with you so soon?"
jinwoo's rich chuckle fills you, "of course. knock on wood, but things have been pretty safe lately, with only low level gates appearing. if anything major comes up during the two weeks you are in seoul with me, i can always ask the other s-ranked hunters to deal with it. so are you in?"
truly, who were you to reject such a generous offer?
{ ... }
perhaps jinwoo was a little too excited to see you.
despite all your protests about having him buy you the plane tickets to get to seoul, he did it anyways. he paid for you to have a first class flight while making sure he would be sent updates to where you were at all times.
but he really couldn't help how he felt.
when he was at the lowest point in his life (being labeled as the weakest in the world with his father missing and his mother in a coma, all while his sister was relying on him), jinwoo found great comfort within your novels. he could relate to each protagonist on a personal level, and he had longed wished to meet the writer behind these wonderful stories-
he had longed to meet you.
so it was no surprise that he didn't sleep much during the hours leading up to your arrival.
it was no surprise that your picture plastered in the back of each novel was an image that he burned within his mind.
and it was certainly no surprise that he would become infatuated with you after hearing your voice and catching a glimpse of your personality during your phone call.
so when your plane lands in seoul's main airport at 3am, jinwoo was the first to arrive with his trademark van, holding up a sign that had your name written on it as he waited for you within the airport lobby.
jinwoo kept pacing around the airport, waiting for you at the gate you were meant to come out of. he was close to sending the several, panicked emails to the airlines he had booked tickets for had it not been for your sudden appearance. as you step out of the gate, he recognizes your side profile, feeling his heart begin skipping beats the closer you got to him.
you had a tired and confused expression on your face, with a single luggage in hand as you searched around for him. however, thanks to his height, you saw him almost immediately. a smile paints your features as you walk up to jinwoo to meet him.
"hello jinwoo, thank you so much for picking me up, a-and for booking the ticket for me to come here."
jinwoo could feel his throat turn dry at the mere sight of you because dear god, were you so much prettier in real life than in your photos.
{ ... }
you tilt your head at jinwoo, holding your luggage in one hand as you wave your free hand across his face. for some odd reason, jinwoo appeared to be captivated, not saying a word despite how you had stood in front of him for a total of 5 minutes now.
"jinwoo?"
as if finally hearing your voice, jinwoo snaps out of it, with you watching as he runs a hand across his hair while a light pink blush was seen spreading across his cheeks. he smiles down at you before wrapping his arms around your back, bringing you closer to his chest in a warm embrace.
"hey, i'm glad you made it here safe."
you hum in response, basking in the gentle but minty sweet scent of his cologne wafting off of his suit. you awkwardly return his embrace with one hand before looking up at him. "so, where to now?"
"well, you're going back to my place, of course." jinwoo takes a hold of your luggage before walking out of the airport, giving you little choice but to follow him.
"w-wait, that won't be necessary! i had every intention of staying at a hotel for the next two weeks! i don't wish to intrude on you-"
jinwoo stops walking, facing you fully with glowing eyes. they appeared to be translucent blue in hue as he places a hand beneath your chin. "please, i insist that you stay with me. you're still my guest, and it would pain me to see you spending a single cent while you're with me."
the familiar heat was felt returning to your cheeks. it was clear that jinwoo exuded a high amount of charm, and from the way his kind gaze was practically begging you to allow him to do this for you, you found that you lost the will to protest against him.
"well, if it's alright with you, then i thank you."
when jinwoo ends up patting your head / ruffling your hair, you felt the warmth simply deepen, allowing him to gently take a hold of your hand as you both left the airport together.
{ ... }
for once in his life, jinwoo was glad that he bought a separate apartment to crash in when he had to spend late nights at his guild.
because if he had allowed you to stay within the same space as his mother and little sister, they would never keep his 'crush' on you a secret (especially jinah).
after a 30 minute ride where he exchanged small talk and usual pleasantries with you, he takes you back to his 'work' apartment and invites you inside. despite the riches he has earned during his raids, jinwoo still chose to live a relatively modest lifestyle, renting out a two bedroom apartment that wasn't too small, nor too big.
he shows you the spare bedroom and points at the bathroom settled in the hallway, reassuring you that you could make yourself at home and alert him if you needed anything. you respond with your usual kind smile, and jinwoo leaves you alone to get unpacked.
knowing that you were probably starving after such a long flight, jinwoo heads into his kitchen to cook a delicious meal consisting of hotpot and ramyun noodles. he works on cutting up all the meats, seafood, and various vegetables while heating up the broth in the middle of his dining room table.
despite knowing how he wouldn't have much of an appetite while in your presence, jinwoo still wanted to cook some hearty for you (just in case). as he was finishing up the hotpot, he sees your figure inching closer to the dining room.
"wow, it smells so good, jinwoo. you're also a good cook?"
"absolutely yes."
you giggle in response, "well, i guess i'll just have to dedicate a whole chapter of your biography to how much of an amazing cook you are!"
he gives you a grin while gesturing at you to have a seat. with all the bowls and utensils surrounding the table, he beckons at you to dig in first. "i'm gonna grab us some sodas to enjoy, so you go ahead and start first."
"ah, are you sure?"
"absolutely! go on and don't be shy." he feels the butterflies taking over his abdomen, getting out some cans of soda before sitting across from you. as you begin eating, jinwoo felt a surge of pride swelling inside of him when you tell him how wonderful everything tasted.
he replies to your genuine compliments with a tiny 'thank you,' starting to eat as well, all while sneaking glances at you.
{ ... }
the following days spent with jinwoo kind of felt like a dream, if you were to be honest with yourself.
and it made you wonder, did all celebrities act like this toward the authors who wished to write their biographies?
deep down, you knew the answer to that question as being no-
that this was a special case between you and jinwoo.
as you interviewed him and asked about his life, he would take some time out of his day to treat you to various things. from eating out at expensive restaurants, to playing around and having fun at the local amusement park-
this felt more like going on dates than just work on your end.
and admittedly, you were having a lot of fun with him. not a single day went by where you didn't feel the excitement coursing through your veins. you ended up enjoying jinwoo's company so much that you felt almost a sense of sadness coursing through you at the thought of going back home and leaving him.
however, during your last night here in seoul, you pushed aside such pesky emotions and began writing out a draft of his biography. you knew that once you started your writing process, then you would not stop-
which is perfect for when you knew you wouldn't be able to sleep.
the door to the spare bedroom was closed as you hoped that it would muffle the incessant sounds of you typing away on your laptop. the last thing you wanted was to disturb jinwoo's sleep when you had every intention to pull an all-nighter writing the beginning chapters of jinwoo's biography.
after writing a few paragraphs, you stop typing to admire your work so far:
sung jinwoo is a 24 year old young man born on march 8, xxxx to his mother, park kyung-hye, and father, sung il-hwan. he spent most of his childhood living a relatively normal life with his parents and little sister, jinah. despite his seemingly normal upbringing, sung has faced many tragedies that left a permanent mark on his life. from the sudden disappearance of his father, to his mother falling into a deep coma due to the eternal slumber disease, he was left with the heavy responsibilities of caring for his seemingly broken family. but this biography is not a tragedy; in fact, the words written within the pages of this novel will be a testament to sung jinwoo's strength as he changes from the world's weakest hunter to the world's strongest hunter through a series of fated events...
a sudden knock heard at your door breaks you out of your read-through of the first few paragraphs that you have written.
"come in."
upon receiving your permission, jinwoo steps into the room with an unreadable expression on his face. there was a deep emotion settled within his eyes, and you wondered if something was bothering him.
"hey, you're still awake? are you okay?"
jinwoo's head was bowed to you, and you hear him murmur something.
"i'm sorry, jinwoo, but i didn't quite catch what you just said. can you repeat yourself?"
the young man begins to tremble when he speaks once more, this time clearer than before. "please stay with me."
your eyes go wide when jinwoo swiftly joins you on your bed, taking you in his arms when he suddenly presses his lips against yours in a kiss filled with desperation. you let out a surprised gasp, allowing jinwoo to take advantage of your parted lips as he dips his tongue within the confines of your mouth.
jinwoo greedily explores your taste, falling into bed with you as your back lands against the mattress. your heart was set aflame thanks to his kiss, and you could no longer deny the way it sang for him each time he was near. with your eyes clenched shut, you shyly return his kiss, allowing him to deepen it as he kept your head still with his large hands.
when the need for air proved to be too much, you and jinwoo both reluctantly pull away from each other, your eyes both hazy with the adoration you felt for one another. as you met with jinwoo's passionate, grey eyes, you watch as he leans down to press a chaste kiss against your lips.
"i'm sorry, but you need to know that... i've been half in love with you for a long time now. ever since i read your debut novel, i was hooked on you."
while he confesses to you, jinwoo brings you into his embrace, allowing you to settle yourself on his lap as he brushes his lips against your forehead. "i understood and found bits and pieces of myself in each and every protagonist you wrote about, and with each new novel that i read by you, the more i felt my admiration and crush for you morph into something else entirely- something much deeper and more meaningful."
you remain silent throughout it all, feeling overwhelmed as you listened to each and every one of jinwoo's words. he frames at your face, eyes now filled with unbidden love for you, "to make a long story a lot shorter, when i got stronger and managed to become an s-rank, all i could think about was how this made it easier for me to potentially meet you someday."
"so when you reached out to me first, eager to know about my life because of how i became stronger... i knew i couldn't let this chance go."
he smiles at you, taking in your wide eyes and the way you parted your lips in such a cute manner. with a sigh of your name, jinwoo kisses you once more. "i thought i'd be happy, simply spending two weeks alone with you, but i've quickly come to realize that two weeks just isn't enough."
despite how fast your heart was racing, you could feel the grin gracing your features as you nuzzled the tip of your nose against jinwoo's. "oh? and if two weeks isn't enough, how many days would i need to spend with you for it to be enough for you?"
a smirk was settled on jinwoo's handsome face, "honestly, i could have you for a lifetime and it still wouldn't be enough for me."
feeling your fondness for jinwoo also morph into something more powerful, you found that you were unable to say no to his gentle demands, becoming oh so captivated by his eyes as you land against his chest with a smile.
"i guess i may need to apply for some type of visa in order to stay here with you in a more permanent sense."
jinwoo chuckles while tightening his arms around your frame, filled with joy at what was to come-
but little did you know, so long as you agreed to marry him by the end of this year, then you would have no problems remaining forever by his side; he'd make sure of it ♡

hey! making a pinned that will for now hold some basic info/disclaimers & may in the future have a read more with a guide to deep dives
navigation
james/lorraine, they/he/she, 24. BA in religious studies/history, going back for a MA in history in january (that's relevant okay that's my CREDENTIALS for this silly blog)
my main is @menlove
I am indeed a shipper! no hate is meant at all by this blog existing, I'm just a historian that is going crazy trying to sort out fact & fiction in this fandom. there's a lot of both and I think a blog like this could be useful
and in that vein, I will never, ever directly come after or @ anyone who shared that misinformation. if you send me a request and start it with "I saw so and so post x, is this real?" I'll make a post without your ask in it. I don't want to send hate anyone's way. if it's an older post, i'll probably link the source of the misinformation for the sake of clarity, but if it's a blog that's still active i won't & i'll just screenshot. (maccaswife1978 is not a real person btw dgshdhshs. as far as I know! sorry if anyone's ever had that username)
I'm always open to correction. I have 0 way of knowing or finding everything, so if you have a credible, reliable source that I didn't find in my deep dive of something I rated fake/neutral, please let me know! I'd love for some of these to be real
I also take requests! feel free to ask me about anything that you want fact checked. just know sometimes I might not be able to find an answer or I might be bogged down & not be able to answer just then. I'll do my best to get to everyone, but inevitably my mental health and life Will come first so......
rating system
fake- this is a source that, from everything I can find, only loops back to other mclennon blogs/forums. again, I'll take correction on these.
neutral- this is a source that is fake in some way but real in others. maybe it's a quote taken wildly out of context, or the quote passed around is fake but the content really did happen & has a more grounded source. or maybe it was written in a biography that didn't use citations and I have no idea where that author got that information, so you should take it with a grain of salt. or maybe it's something that isn't necessarily fake, but there's not enough evidence to definitively prove it one way or another (i.e. did anything happen in india?) whatever the case, this source has ended up neutral in the grand scheme of mclennon.
real- happy day for us all, these are for ones that turn out to be real! these are ones that are backed up by one or more reliable source & have hard evidence
source reliability
what do I mean by "reliable source"?
for me to count a source as "reliable" and count it towards a fact/quote being real, it has to be one of these things: first-hand (interviews, auto biographies, etc), recorded (video/photographic evidence, basically), or a well-sourced/respected biographer.
sources that fall into the in between category and might still earn a "real" rating but should be taken with a grain of salt are things like: second-hand sources (& who they are is important in determining how big that grain of salt should be), biographers who are allergic to sourcing, and things like lyrics/poetry/short stories which rely heavily on interpretation unless explained by either john or paul themselves. none of these automatically mean a "neutral" or "fake" rating, but they're taken into account.
and sources that will earn a fake rating once they're found to be the original source: tumblr blogs, deviantART pages, fan forums, gossip columns, etc. basically, if all I can find is someone writing out "slash beatles quotes" on a page in 2011, it's getting chucked in the bullshit pile unless someone else can find a source that predates it.

apologies if you've been asked this already, but im curious what your hopes are for dm in the show (in terms of happened in the past/will happen in the future/both/secret fourth option(?) and what you think is most likely to actually happen, if those arent the same thing
(it turned into a pretty long post when I had it all typed out, sorry.) I think my hopes are pretty much in line with what I expect the show to do. I definitely think we're getting Past Devil's Minion. it's been hinted at in promo too much for us not to see Luke again. Luke did a lot of promo to begin with for a one episode character, especially if we wouldn't see him again for the rest of the series. Compared to Madeline who was in more episodes. Now, you could argue Luke is better know, but I don't think Luke is anywhere near a household name. We have seen all three them of them talk about Young Daniel. Eric wants to see Luke do a scene with his ex wife/ex-wives, Assad wants a threesome scene where Daniel and Luke merge into each other. And Luke would like it if Alice was Armand. I think if Young Daniel was a closed chapter the actors would be discouraged from talking about it, as to not raise fandom expectations the show had zero plans on filling. Not to mention we had Vampire Sam at the big opening of the season 2 and we had Luke there as well. No other TdV actor was there, only the 'big' characters and actors. And where we haven't seen much of Vampire Sam yet, we will be seeing him again in S3. So, I think Luke being there and pairing him up with Assad for promo was a deliberate choice. There are some things in the show itself that also make me more sure that Young Daniel will return. We know old Daniel has a faulty memory and that he is still missing pieces. And that he also doesn't remember everything properly from how thinks it went. His own auto-biography isn't a correct story, as highlighted by Louis being the stranger he once met. Memory is the monster. Daniel feeling freer in Paris to hold 'Alice' hands, Armand triggering Daniel's memories. Raglan knowing Armand wouldn't harm Daniel. Armand caring about Daniel enough to stop Louis from hurting him, from crossing lines, offering comfort and apologies. None of that makes a lot of sense if they weren't something at some point in the past. Especially because Jacob said in an interview that after San Francisco Armand and Louis kind of went their own way, where they didn't always check up on each other. Armand, according to Daniel, would disappear for long stretches of time in the book, which could easily be during the chase. Armand going from Daniel to Louis and back. We also don't really know much about Louis' past and if Armand was always there. Nor do we know when Armand discovered he could walk in the sun. We have a good 50 years of 'nothing' that we still need to see. We still have to learn when and why Louis believed Lestat was dead and murdered by him and Claudia. Or when Louis found out Claudia hated him. And when he forgot about that. Why did Louis stop killing in 2000. What happened that made him want to change. Who did he kill? If we still have to get all that knowledge I have to assume, there is knowledge in those years that we also need about Armand, Lestat and Daniel. So, I guess, I always simply look at the book as being slightly altered but not much. Past DM is still the QoTD chapter bare the turning which is now their separation. And instead of Daniel going mad and being with Marius, the show aged him, gave him wives and daughters. The present is the show's version of the Prince Lestat trilogy. When they reunite. Anne never wrote those scenes out, so the show has a lot of freedom to decide how to go about this. And I think with this set up, Devil's Minion can be the best couple on tv in a very long time. With all the drama, love, lust, longing, fighting, toxicity and warmth, that only they can have. With the whirlwind rollarcoaster romance and the heartbreaking separation of the past, to the challenging, yearned for, longed for, painful, healing and hopeful reunion. I'm not psychic though, but i do really hope this is the direction they are going in, it's the one I would pick and I think it's the one that will have the highest success rate storywise.

Jericho: Direct Quotes from 1984-1991
Joseph Wilson, AKA Jericho, was created by Marv Wolfman and George George Pérez for The New Teen Titans.
Joe is mute and DC has varied their care in portraying that. In his original appearances Joe is fluent in sign language, and that is his preferred way of speaking. However, even though Joe is constantly signing, the comics do not always translate his signing for the reader to follow.
I set out to collect specifically direct quotes from his original slate of appearances. From his intro in Tales of the Teen Titans #42 to just before Titans: Hunt, stopping at The New Titans #69. This list collects either direct translations of his signing, or quoted thought/bubbles, with their punctuation preserved.
This does not include his ability to talk using the voice, verbiage, and tone of the unconscious person he's possessing (a power used a lot right at his introduction, which then tapers off), or the times when he is shown to be signing but we are not given a direct translations of said signs.
This also does not contain his narration in The New Teen Titans #47, which is Danny and Joey reading the auto/biographies of the Titans Joe has written. This is only because that would be a transcript of the entire issue, and I don't think I can fit that in a post.
Finally, this list does not include any spoken quotes from Titans: Hunt, where he was inexplicably able to speak verbally. I didn't include those for two reasons: 1. While there are a few moments when it's clear Joe is speaking and not the Souls of Azarath, ultimately they are both influencing eachother, so we can't be sure it is only Joe's words and verbiage. 2. This post is intended to function as an record of how little Joe was able to express himself in his own/preferred language.
I've included the full quotes, issues they're from, and a brief summery of what Joe is referring to, so beware of spoilers. Where I could not summarize the conversation, I have included Joe and the person he's talking with's dialogue.

DAY 5605
Jalsa, Mumbai June 22, 2023 Thu 11:25 PM
🪔 .. June 23 .. birthday greetings to Ef Anish Morarji Tataria .. yo from your Ef Family 😁✌🏽 ..
And .. to dear Ef Moses Sapir .. your wedding anniversary on June 23 .. our good wishes always ..
Birthday - EF - Anish Morarji Tataria Friday, 23 June .. and our wishes for this special day of yours .. love from the Ef family ..
Does it dawn .. dawn in the recognised morn of the day .. the day doth announce its presence .. or about its presence .. and the World of writing and writers hurriedly adopts the ‘dawn’ to their world ..
‘ it be the dawn of a new world’ .. they say .. or words to that effect .. effective , poetic and composite .. whether the dawn turns to the sun lit day or not irrespective .. or sets into another quiet unknown night for another dawn to re appear ..
amusingly , when the film ‘DON’ was announced with me .. many in the world of Hindi cinema were quite unaware of the word don ..
what they were familiar with was a product known as DAWN .. the DAWN banyaan .. vests ..
And the market was very skeptical and annoyed with the makers as to why a film title should be about undergarments .. !!
many still are .. 🤣
... but on another note .. Ef remembers Babuji and his translated auto biography and puts it all down .. I feel it deserves mention here :
And .. before Music Day ends .. I feel having the honor of sharing few words from Babuji about his journey with music from his autobiography .. but , then , indeed , every day is music day .. love .. ❤️🙏🏻
Quoting babuji : 🙏🏻
“ [...] ..
Pratap Narayan [my Father] was duly betrothed to the daughter of Munshi Ishwari Prasad, a resident of Katra Mohalla in Allahabad. Her name was Sursati, and she was to become my Mother. The name 'Sursati' is clearly derived from 'Saraswati', and when I felt the first stirrings of a desire to be a poet or writer, I derived much self-confidence from the fact that I was the son of the goddess of learning and of art and music.
[And in mentioning music] ..
Professor Khushhalkar, was our music teacher, he was a Maharashtrian and a pupil of Pandit V.D. Pulaskar. His Hindi was of the Bombay variety, but when he taught us devotional songs, his pronunciation of every syllable was crystal-clear; he would make us do voice practice to the harmonium, then teach us bhajans such as Tulsi's Gaiye Ganapati Jagabandara, which I can still sing from memory today. He also showed us how to sing while picking out the notes on the harmonium: he would pump the bellows with one hand while the fingers of the other would run lightly over the keys, his own voice blending with that of the instrument in such a way as to achieve a sublime harmony of the inanimate with the animate: evoking a tingling emotional response. Professor Khushhalkar sowed the seeds of music in me, but regrettably I was never able to grow the plant that should have sprung from them. Still, my slight study of music was helpful in the reciting of poetry, and a little knowledge of tala helped me compose songs in the folk genre. I can also tap out a rhythm on a drum, but that was learnt from my mother and sisters. ” ~
Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan's Autobiography: In The Afternoon Of Time .. Chapter: Things to Forget, Things to Remember .. Pages: 56, 112 ..
.. and in time .. hopefully there shall an introduction to the music that this untrained novice who has had no musical training at all .. just been in the company of listening and present to the sounds of music that has remained with me .. and the legacy of Babuji , if nothing else shall prevail .. yet again ..
In quiet love and affection to the Ef ..
Amitabh Bachchan

STATS • CONNECTIONS • PINTEREST
GENERAL.
full name: jonah abraham fisher nicknames: jo, jojo, fish gender / pronouns: cis man, he/him age / birthday: 34, november 22nd orientations: bisexual, demiromantic previous occupation: tattoo artist, mechanic, business owner birthplace: staten island, new york status: single family: sylvia fisher (mother, deceased), mark fisher (father, unknown), judah fisher (fraternal twin), aunt wc, cousins wc strengths: artistic, creative, protective, inquisitive, loyal weaknesses: paranoid, sarcastic, gloomy, reserved, untrusting time in nyc: 34 years time at the wexley: brand new
PERSONALITY.
first and foremost, jonah thinks in pictures. his mind is a canvas and the only thing that changes is the paint or shadings that spread across it. creativity is where he thrives the most, which has always left him more reserved. he tends to drift off into his own world or observe and bank it for later. that doesn’t mean he’s not paying attention (though sometimes he isn’t) and it’s worked well that his brother has been happy to speak for him whether he wants him to or not. no matter, he’s not afraid to speak up if someone is wrong or he disagrees. he’s generally perceived as gloomy and his sardonic quips don’t help matters much. this is where he’s often contradictory to himself. he enjoys people, being around them and especially if they are like-minded in some sense. to those that he loves and/or cares about most, he is loyal to a fault, which extends to the community he was raised in. with that loyalty comes the willingness to help, which likely came from his father. he’s not the smartest bulb in the bunch but he is quite passionate about art and philosophy, not limited to conspiracy theories and things of that nature.
BIOGRAPHY.
when sylvia fisher found out she was pregnant, she was excited to grow her family with her unsuspecting husband, mark. his shock was far from the first surprise to be had, though. first it was the discovery that she was having twins and the second, more unfortunate, was that he would be raising the boys alone. sylvia passed from complications during the surgical c-section, rare as it was but still a risk all the same. that didn’t stop mark from raising his boys to the best of his ability though. his sister stepped in to help, already having kids of her own, as mark being a staten island firefighter kept his schedule busy.
despite jonah’s being seven and a half minutes older than his twin judah, he hardly felt like the eldest brother. he was not as outgoing, nor as smart as him. the one resounding ability he had was input of wild ideas and half-developed plans that judah would complete, fine tune, and run with. he was his best friend growing up and honestly, still is. sure, they didn’t always see eye to eye on everything, but they could normally find some kind of compromise and their father instilled the same values in both of them. hard work, community, loyalty, and helping those who can’t help themselves. with these values they were able to finish school mostly unscathed and without burning the place down, turning into somewhat suitable adults with blind ambition that ended up working out for them in the long run.
jonah didn’t waste time with college, higher education was not his destiny nor was it even an interest. he was already an artist, he wanted to further this talent— sharpen his skills in a mode he’d already been practicing with, tattooing. jonah got an apprenticeship with a long time artist and shop and soaked in the knowledge like a sponge. learning was much easier when it was all visual. eventually he got the idea to open up a shop of his own in the part of the city he loved. judah encouraged the idea and furthered it with the addition of an auto shop as well. which was perfect because their uncle, had left his auto-shop to his brother mark who, in turn, gave it to the boys to use to create a future for themselves in some way as long as they didn’t sell it while he was still alive. it was perfect, and together they fixed the place up to be the first (as far as they knew at least) tattoo, piercing, and auto shop in the world.
when the outbreak happened, they had been going about their day like any other. jonah had woken up on his half of their renovated airstream and started coffee, then popped a jimmy dean breakfast sandwich in the microwave. it wasn’t until they were both already in the shop waiting for their first appointments for the day that they heard the warnings. they didn’t waste any time springing into action, jonah didn’t even take time to be smug about one of the many doomsday predictions he’d spouted off coming to fruition finally. he was already prepared. together they cleared the shop of extra vehicles and used them to help block entrance. they then locked down the shop and went out to help the community the best they could. a couple employees and a few community members locked down with them and helped them secure the building fully.
everything had been going as good as it could under the circumstances. for months they were able to sustain themselves on the supplies they’d stocked up in storage (making a few runs for more to neighboring places when possible). judah had kept the backup generator going, maintain the solar panels on the roof, and the well their uncle had put in before they were even born gave them a water source, though they still needed to conserve it. there wasn’t as high of a risk of water contamination with factories no longer running. they’d even found a way to attach the airstream by tunnel so they had more space to sleep and privacy. but all good things must come to an end. mutiny was the means to the end. it started with one of the shop residents not liking the way things were done and once the snow was off the ground they made their move to take over. some of them still sided with the fishers, and it started a fight that ended with unnecessary violence and their safe place stolen from under their feet.
jonah had half a mind to start the place on fire so no one could have it, but it was judah that reminded him they could maybe return again someday. perhaps when karma (if that’s something you can believe in) pays them back. they took what they could and set out to find what was next. what they found, was a boat and later they witnessed a whole fireworks show. they kept their distance but made their way into manhattan and kept looking around until they found the wexley. it ain’t home, but they’re hoping they can hang out until they figure out what to do about getting their shop back.
HEADCANONS.
father went on to be chief of the fire station he worked at, jonah often hung around the firehouse
got into a fair amount of trouble when he was younger, but after he became an adult the most he got in trouble for was a few physical altercations now and then
fully believes aliens exist and thinks its possible theres cryptids as well. hates the government.
believes in a lot of the 9/11 conspiracies but doesn’t talk about it much because it would bother his father

THE SECRET OF LAMINA ABRAMS: A BIOGRAPHY by Persephone Price
Although they would ultimately become well known for their electric chemistry and the fierce bond that inspired such vivacious, passionate music, it wasn't all smooth sailing. In fact, Miss Abrams distinctly recalls that the band had not welcomed her with open arms as one would believe. "I understood their distrust, of course," the star conceded with a bright, knowing smile. "Just as I understood that I would have to prove myself to earn their confidence. To perform with The Covey, to perform with Treech... it was an opportunity that I would not let slip from my grasp." The world remains thankful that she tirelessly fought to earn a place alongside them onstage.
--
If Sejanus Plinth was expecting a chorus of celebratory cheers echoing throughout the studio, he was unfortunately to be disappointed. The members of The Covey instead stared owlishly at him with varying expressions, ranging from dubious boredom and neutrality to annoyance and slight curiosity.
Mizzen, at 19, only cared to update the band's Instagram and be an extra body on the small tour bus Plinth Records had assigned to them, grateful for the benefits that his bond with Coral provided him. The kid's priorities were understandably limited to proving his usefulness and enjoying the privilege of being kept under his older sister's wing.
Or, at least, they all allowed him to believe he earned his keep, because he was more or less a sweet, enthusiastic teenager, invigorated by a life on the road and charming the jaded, cynical group of twenty-somethings who had been through the trenches of adulthood with his boundless optimism. There was also the fact that everyone had the sense not to question Mizzen's place, for fear of provoking Coral's temper, an alarming side effect of her admirably fierce protectiveness.
Lucy Gray was easily adaptable and more than eager to share her talent, so long as she retained the spotlight that was naturally a lead singer's domain. Treech had his own doubts, of course, but respected all that Mr Plinth had done for them and was willing to put his reservations aside. Brandy and Tanner accepted the fact that they had little say in the band's affairs, anyway, despite Mr Plinth's claim that this was a democracy - a statement which had earned him a wild, taunting grin from Coral, who knew damn well that she called the shots.
Predictably, Coral's mouth widened in that same shark-tooth beam she had become infamous for, a vicious grin that only ever seemed to soften for her little brother. It was clear to everyone involved that the temperamental woman was anything but happy, despite her misleading expression. She leaned back arrogantly in her seat, legs spread out in a strange show of dominance, her elbows propped up onto the table that functioned as a gathering spot, both for professional meetings and as a place where the band played card games on their downtime.
"Now, tell me," she began, voice low and dangerous, advising Mr Plinth to tread lightly and with an abundance of caution, "why exactly would we want a collaboration with fresh blood? Does the baby musician even have an album out yet? Or is she one of those talentless hacks on TikTok who become famous for their pretty faces and excessive abuse of auto tune?"
Treech decided not to comment, knowing when to pick his battles when it came to Coral. The truth was, he also often found himself wincing when the latest new trendy pop star inevitably turned out to be a model-gorgeous influencer with good looks and little musical skill, poorly off key and obviously aided by extensive technology use. It was that type of "creator" (both male and female, he pointed out to fend off accusations of misogyny from Brandy, who was always eager to pick a fight with him) unfortunately saturating the music industry, which nowadays prioritized a song's ability to be repurposed into a 30 second TikTok background track rather than its quality, passion, emotion.
However, he was careful not to write off all TikTokers as shallow and superficial, because the world wasn't that simple as the people addicted to hatred and finger-pointing wanted to believe. The Covey owed much of their success to Mizzen's networking skills on a broad range of social media platforms, and several members of their fan base had contributed to their growing popularity by posting video clips of their performances at nightclubs and cafes.
For all of its faults and the aggravating trends of misinformation that ran rampant on the app, Treech knew that it had some redeemable qualities. While he didn't entirely disagree with Coral, Treech had to fight back the impulse to come to the defense of that stupid app.
He bit his tongue, even as withholding the truth of his opinion left an acidic taste crawling down his throat, bitter like the straight vodka Coral and Brandy always seemed to enjoy after a show. (The memory of the women swapping a bottle of the vulgar, barely drinkable clear fluid back and forth, throwing their heads back until their necks were exposed and laughing manically at the bitter taste, still made Treech shudder, as did the traumatizing incident of having come back to the studio later to retrieve his forgotten jacket only to find them engaged in a heated makeout.)
Mr Plinth, face blank and giving away nothing, seemed unfazed by Coral's hostility, which was something that made Treech both greatly respect and fear for the man. "This baby musician, as you call her, works with an old friend of mine over at Capitol Records. She might be a newcomer, but my friend believes that she shows great promise and future potential. I am inclined to trust his instincts that a collaborative project would benefit all parties."
His polite, smooth cadence, meant to placate Coral and subdue her into acceptance, did no such thing. Treech often found that the poor man underestimated Coral's pride, her overwhelming need to be in control. It was clear she was gearing up to continue the argument, but much to everyone's surprise, it was Lucy Gray who intervened, gliding over in smooth, graceful movements and gently placing a hand on the girl's elbow.
Treech could only observe, mildly perplexed, as Lucy Gray whispered some indecipherable words in the belligerent woman's ear, her dark brown curls obscuring her face as she spoke. What was even more surprising was that Lucy Gray's touch had a visibly calming effect on Coral, and she seemed to relax into the contact, her eyes no longer glittering with malice.
He had little time to examine what that was about, because after listening to their lead singer, Coral continued her interrogation of Mr Plinth, although less combative, and with her hand resting on Lucy Gray's where it remained clutching her elbow. "Well, at least tell us a little more about this mystery new artist we're supposed to link ourselves up with. Convince me she's worth it," she challenged. Although well-hidden and an almost minute, unnoticeable detail, Treech's attention still snagged on the way Lucy Gray ran her fingers slightly down Coral's arm, as if to soothe her, and observed how her heavy breathing evened out in response.
It was bewildering, Lucy Gray's talents of bewitching just about anyone, ensnaring even the coldest of people with her beguiling charm. Of course, this did not extend to Brandy, an onlooker who regarded the scene with narrowed eyes and an impatient huff. Treech's eyes darted to the Southern girl's twin brother, who retained the bliss of ignorance, apathetically twirling his drum sticks with a repetitive twitch of his fingers.
"You will not be disappointed," Mr Plinth promised cheerily. Coral still seemed doubtful, and even Treech wasn't so quick to accept some random newcomer into their band that, even with its occasional bouts of infighting, had become a tight-knit group and something of a family to him.
As if sensing their wary hesitance, Mr Plinth retrieved several Ziploc baggies from the mini fridge humming quietly in a corner of the room, one that served as a stockpile of fuel for late night songwriting and recording. "I have sandwiches for everyone!" A clear attempt at a peace offering. Despite the man's best intentions, Treech sometimes wondered if they were more a wolf pack to be tamed by his attempts of kindness rather than musicians on equal footing with their producer.
Well, he wasn't one to turn down a free sandwich. Treech politely accepted a PB&J with a grateful nod, relishing in how the two liquid-like substances combined on his tongue. Once sandwiches were distributed to the band members, all of whom proved rather ravenous - especially Mizzen, even though he was long past the trappings of puberty - their producer began the work of convincing them all to embrace this new creative direction. Really, Treech would have preferred the pretenses be dropped, since it always came down to Coral's decisions on the matter, and even her own brother wasn't extended the courtesy of being allowed to give his input.
"She did, in fact, get her start on TikTok," Mr Plinth began, which prompted a disdainful snort from Coral and a skeptical raising of her dark red eyebrows. "Have a little faith, Miss Gilbert. The girl has an excellent voice with great potential, and my friend, Pup, has a unique ability to spot talent. He wouldn't just pick up any so called influencer off the street. Why don't you look her up, see for yourself?"
The polished, well groomed man pulled out an expensive looking phone from his suit pocket. Most likely due to Mr Plinth's well adjusted attitude, Treech always forgot how well off the man was - at least, compared to the band who had been forced to adjust to unforgiving rent and restrictive expenses that confined them to the cheapest housing they could find that would accommodate this number of people.
Mr Plinth had never faced that sort of issue, especially since the wealthy record label was founded by his father, Strabo Plinth, and passed on to him upon his retirement. There were many instances when the band members found it difficult not to be amused by Mr Plinth's guilt over his inheritance, or, as a kid of Mizzen's generation would call it, "nepo baby" status.
They all gathered around their producer, straining to see such a small screen especially when seven people meant to look at it. Soon, the loading circle was replaced with the image of a hauntingly pale girl with sweet features and round eyes that seemed vulnerable and innocent, her face framed by thick red tresses, neatly brushed out and held back by a dark purple headband. Treech was suddenly aware of a tingling sensation deep underneath his skin, something nagging at him, a knowing he desperately grasped at even as he failed to recall its source.
Her lips parted, and she began to sing, the notes hitting at all the right places, a melodious sound, so exquisite it made him crave more. Treech recognized this warm feeling exploding behind his rib cage and washing over him like nectar, and he was also astoundingly certain he recognized her.
As the girl sang, her voice filled the entire room, and they all remained quiet so as not to disturb the musician on Mr Plinth's screen. Even Coral was taken aback, stunned into reluctant admiration. The video came to an end, and once Treech was finally able to tear his gaze away from the elusive TikToker - an immediate, deep sense of loss invaded him, and he longed to see more of her, assaulted by his own terrible need - he could see that even stubborn, infuriating Coral was impressed by what she had just seen.
Tanner and Mizzen, while releasing identical appreciative whistles, didn't seem to care one way or another, which was to be expected from the two of them. While the kid scurried off to engage in whatever it is teenagers found entertaining nowadays (brushing past Tanner, who grunted something along the lines of "watch it, fetus" under his breath), with eerily mouse-like movements, the Texan twins murmured to each other in their own personal bubble of side conversation, and Coral seemed to be wordlessly communicating with Lucy Gray. Treech was left on his own to stare off into the distance, still recovering from the clip of the girl's voice and reeling with the knowledge that he might give anything to hear it again.
Now if only he could simply figure out where he had seen her before.

Hello, I just saw an ask you sent abnerkrill about f1. I'm very new to the sport (I'm on s4 of Drive to Survive and have just begun following the current season), and doing some research into f1 history for a project I'm working on. Do you have any resources on the history of f1? And do you know where I can find the Senna documentary? No pressure to respond, of course, and thanks for sharing your insight in that ask.
Hell yeah I can help! DTS is docudrama which means it will make a storyline outta nothing, so you've probably been given a very warped view of the sport. Which isn't to say it isn't good fun! Its just not helpful to understanding the sport.
I've been into motorsport coming up on 4 years now and I've read/watched a bunch on the history of F1 and motorsport. I'll list some of that stuff here:
MY RECOMMENDATIONS:
One: Life On The Limit (documentary)
Free on youtube. Interviews tons of drivers. Got me into the sport. I mean it when i say it interviews a ton of old drivers/important people from multiple eras and paints a real picture of the danger of the sport. Fair warning: it contains footage of fatal crashes and if you find that upsetting I totally understand and won't blame you for skipping it
Lauda (Documentary)
Eveyone should know about Niki. I say this half-ironically. Hes my fav driver so I'm biased but his impact on the sport cannot be overstated. His story, from his championship to his horror crash and full body burns to his next two championships and his fight for driver safety is incredible. He was half of the pair that organized the famous driver strike! Whole grid locked themselves in a bedroom instead of driving to protest the lack of safety!
Rush (Movie)
Again Niki Lauda related, however this is THE motorsport movie. It's very accurate to the battle between James Hunt and Niki Lauda for the championship, along with their friendship. It's great and even non-motorsport enjoyers loved it.
Biographies/Auto-Biographies (Books)
Tons drivers have tons, some have multiple (like Senna or Schumacher) and you can get the more well known ones from the more well known drivers off Z-Lib or annasarchive pretty easy (use a vpn and go to r/piracy and navigate to their masterpost of piracy links. if you dont have a vpn dw they list a really solid free one) you should also be able to find a host for the senna doco through there. I would recommend reading about figures like Prost, Schumacher, Lauda, Hamilton obvs but also non-drivers in the sport like Ross Brawn and Sid Watkins.
Life on The Limit (Books)
Two books by Sid Watkins (doctor who made f1 safe) that were released in tandem with the doco I mentioned and go into great detail about his friendship with past drivers. Really funny at multiple points and then absolutely heartbreaking when it comes to the things he saw and lost during those days. Highly recommend.
My friend Laura who has been watching since infancy also recommends:
- "In general for freebie resources, overtakefans as a site has a Ton of resources and history archived"
- "and if you search for 'F1 season reviews YouTube' you will usually find the short season round ups they used to do that provide you with some basic history and that can be really good if you want to know more about certain eras but don't know where to start."
Silver War (documentary)
It's abt nico and lewis and their lifelong friendship into bitter toxic rivalry into. whatever the fuck it is now. is on youtube, (I personally haven't seen it.)
Grand Prix: The Killer Years (Book)
About the deadly years of F1, I believe. (I haven't read it.)
Enzo Ferrari: The Man and The Machine (Book)
from Laura: "even though it starts WAY WAY WAY before f1 and is probably too heavy for a newbie to handle it is a VERY detailed look at not just Ferrari but early Motorsport in Europe and how that eventually led to the creation of F1 and why Ferrari has always been a presence in it"
The book also touches briefly on fascism in the sport which I will be talking abt under the readmore because I do feel it's an important disclaimer.
So, I put this under a readmore cos it's a bit long. But the one last thing I wanna say is that I think it is important when looking at F1 both in the current day and it's history to discuss the grim realities about why Motorsport is so elitist, and how that has been ingrained since it's founding.
A big thing to know about F1 history is that is was founded by the wealthy, juuust pre (late 1920s) and then post WW2 (paused during the war). It was the wealthy of this era who could afford to buy and race motorcars. From there, it was only those wealthy who could fund and form those teams. It was a rich mans hobby. And unfortunately, more often than not, those very rich men had fascist ideals (which were very, very popular in England and Italy and Europe in general and up until WW2 which made it a more distasteful ideal, although enough people certainly persisted with these beliefs more quietly).
Nazis raced in it. Nazi sympathizers raced in it. Ferrari had to work for Mussolini and Mercedes had to work under Hitler making weapons during the war, some members of these companies more willingly than others. Hell, one of F1s most famous circuits it raced on is the Nurburgring. A massive stretch of track that was made on the orders of Hitler, next to a small town where the small Jewish population had been purged. It was built to show off German Engineering and with the hopes to show off to the rest of the West (they lost against the English in the inaugural race and threw a fucking fit abt it loser fucking nazis).
These echoes of facism and elitism do still exist in european motorsport to this day and, like fascist ideals, have expanded into other continents. I don't think I could name a Brazilian driver who doesn't support Jair Bolsonaro. The Piquets are personal friends with him, Nelson (4 time world champ, prolific racist) drives him around for political rallies. Emmerson Fittipaldi (another old champion, Brazilian) ran as an MP for the Italian fascist party. Bernie Ecclestone (owned the rights to f1 for a WHILE) believes in fucking insane conspiracy theories about Jewish people and described Putin, who he is friends with, as a "good man" on national television when questioned abt the invasion of Ukraine. Max Mosely, who was head of the FIA until the late 2000s, was a youth fascist who handed out handwritten leaflets on "racial inferiority". His parents wedding was attended by Hitler himself. He was the nephew of Oswald Mosely, who was done for treason during the war for his loyalty to the Nazis and belief in Nazism. Max was still in charge when Lewis, the sports first black driver (one of two ever now, out of 70+ years of history), came into the sport. And that's not even going into the morality of some of F1s sponsors (Armco, etc) and the places they race (too long to list)
This is uncomfortable, yes, but it's not often talked about when recounting F1's history. Certainly not in documentaries or books. The creators of which who, frankly, dont even know how to touch on the subject or think it's fine to skip over. But it is a reality of the sport and it does intertwine in an irremovable way with its history, especially when you look at the people who both competed and still do compete. When you look at its current day classism, its racial inequality, sexism, homophobia, ableism etc.
Just because its easier to hide these days through weak statements, a stance of individualism on drivers political views and co-opting of activist language without actual moves towards change, certainly does not mean it isn't there. And while things have absolutely improved in terms of diversity and will hopefully continue to improve with the presence of people like Lewis Hamilton and Susie Wolff, F1 and European motorsport is and was unfortunately, founded in an era of fascism and elitism and it will be a while until those parts of the sport can be removed from its structure.

Back in the beginning of May of 2024 I took a masterclass on Tolkien's mythopoeia. It was given by a Tolkien scholar, translator and consultant for adaptation projects on Tolkien's work. The focus of the workshop was the study the creation of the Fantastical Myth in Tolkien as a source of knowledge. Mythopoeisis as an epidemiologic act of literary creation. I ate it up.
However, there's one thing that the lecturer said that comes back to me every now and then which mildly enrages me whenever I remember it. He said he was always taken aback by Tolkien's popularity in places that shared nothing of Tolkien's irl culture or worldview. That is to say, outside of England and Europe. He was amazed how Tolkien was read and related with too. Naturally, the man was white and European himself.
This is why it annoys me so much: do white Tolkien scholars think other places in the world do not have a countryside? That the Hobbits could only be envisioned by someone who was deeply tied to the English countryside? When I think of hard labouring people who love their land around them and eat six meals a day I don't think about Hobbits first, I don't think about the English countryside, I think about my own. That there is no such thing as an universal culture doesn't mean there are plenty of common places that different cultures have arrived to in vastly different ways. I agree that there is no other like Tolkien, in the sense that he was able to do what he did, and his work has the value that is has, because of the specific material circumstances surrounding him. His way of engaging with the world and engaging with it through Fantastical Creation is not unique to him, but in the western literary canon he is the precursor of it in a way his moderns imitators (not people inspired by him! imitators!) cannot carry that tradition forward. But even the extremely specific circumstances that made Tolkien Tolkien, are not unique to him. Sometimes, it seems to me like white Tolkien scholars and white Tolkien fans think that because of his cultural commonality with him there are no other places who also draw to the feeling of eucatharsis of hope, the wish for the dawn to come, the last stands for the sake of what is right in the wake of your world being destroyed, alien powers that seem all powerful, older than you, bigger than you, destroying your land and your culture and the bonds between your people.
How is surprising to any of them that Tolkien is read in China, in Latin America? In Africa, by indigenous people, by mixed people, by people of colour* and then related to? How are people surprised we're still able to see ourselves in Tolkien's mythopoeia despite all their tries to kick us out, or their frankly offensive surprise that we relate to it? Sure, Fangorn would not exist without Tolkien's fascination with trees, nature and the English woods. I come from the same place as Valdivian Temperate Forests and the Altiplanic Andes with their majestic condors. I do not need to think about eagles in the UK to imagine Manwë's. I do not need to think about English woods to think about the forests of middle earth. Yavanna grows corn like both mesoamerican peoples and the Incas** and I'm supposed to not see myself there? These are just a couple of examples from my own background, but I know every Tolkien fan/enthusiast/scholar of colour will be able to easily draw their own. We see them in the fandom all the time.
Tolkien was neither your conservative uncle nor a secret progressive. He was a guy, with a non-cohesive belief system like most of us have, who explicitly said and left in writing to stop treating his work as allegoric auto-biography because it was not. This is my opinion, but his letters shouldn't be used to pick apart 'the true meaning' of his work in the way they are sometimes***. People should stop focusing on the 'mythology for England' letter, taking it grossly out of context, and start reading his essays on the fantastical, philology and literary epistemology of myths because they are FAR more relevant to understanding him than his personal thoughts. Also (and I will word it rudely) for a bunch of crackers so stuck in 'honouring' his legacy, which truly just means defending your own white fragility and selfishness, they are the first ones to do exactly what Tolkien himself asked people to not do with his work.
Of course, the lecturer wasn't one of said crackers. Aside from this and another opinion he expressed that is not relevant to this post, the man was a delight. This was one of the highlights of my 2024, even. Still, he carried the accident of his birth and the accident of the culture he carried as a white European like a naive threshold to his own amazement, rather than using it to open himself to what these other cultures could bring to the table in this specific matter.
The world is vaster than our pre-conceived ideas. It doesn't matter if Tolkien meant to write brown people into his work or not, because more often than not, he wasn't the one making it about race, even if some obviously racist ideas which are products of his time he could not get past. If universal to these people means homogenous, means 'same' as in identical, then that is their problem. Not one of Tolkien's work, not one of its fans/enthusiasts/scholars of colour.
*I am using the same demographic examples he used. **Using 'Inca' instead of the multiple denominations for the Tahuantinsuyu and its different ethnicities bc its simpler. ***Not talking about the literary criticism (discipline) done by scholars of colour regardless of whether I agree with it or no. Do whatever you want besties.
#originals.txt#long post#i rotate that moment in my head often and it still baffles me as you can see#tolkien

biography ;
When you’re born into a small area, with no more than a few thousand people residing in the location you grew up, a person can go one of two ways — they can come to loathe the quiet existence and rebel to the city, or they can embrace it and find themselves preferring the isolation. Now, you might wonder where Rhett comes into play here? Well, it’s safe to say he’s the latter of the two. Ever since he was a young child, Rhett Bishop has always embraced Westport, and more specifically, Compo Beach’s environment, with the shore close by, and his sick mother sitting on the porch enjoying the view. Without a father, perhaps that’s one of the reasons he stepped into the role of carer for his mom? Or perhaps it was just his instinct to look after his own. Either way, he did not have the most stereotypical childhood, with a mother who suffered from Leukaemia, and in turn had a nurse on stand by more often than not, and would rather sit outside and look into the abyss that was the ocean than actively taking part in much else. It was the disease, he knew that from a young age, but that didn’t make matters much easier to process. Especially when it came to her death at the age of 18. Barely out of high school, he came home to an unexpected scene, that people warned him was going to happen in only a matter of time. And it was that moment that the innocence and positive attitude left him — instead, focused on the deafening silence within his home. Their home.
Whilst he was left the home he grew up in, he did not foresee himself staying there. It was too hard, despite being unable to admit as such to himself, instead telling himself he’d get more out of renting it out and getting himself a smaller place just off the shoreline. Sure, logically speaking it was a smart business idea, and a sure fire way to keep an income, but that wasn’t going to stop the young man from getting his footing and setting up a life for himself where he needn’t rely on his mother’s death and what had come of it. Instead, he got the qualifications required and in turn became a mechanic at one of the local garage’s just outside of Westport Village — Scotts Auto Body & Repair Shop. First it was an apprenticeship, but soon enough, with the hard work and dedication he put into the company, he found himself managing the place, and now, has since become it's owner, buying it out a few years back. And sure, it filled a whole for a while there, in fact, it more or less did the trick for a further eight years until Rhett was twenty-six years old. But coming home to an empty place, with no real sense of family was getting rather noticeable, especially with the fact that he had always kept himself to himself. Granted, he had women back to his place every once and a while, he was a red blooded male after all — he still had needs. But no, it wasn’t quite measuring up. Not until he secured himself his closest companion, in the form of a rescue Alsatian pup he picked up at the pound. Stupid floppy ears and big brown eyes that wouldn’t stop following him around the room, and a tail that apparently moved more than the rest of him. Soon enough, Rhett was walking out of the centre with a newfound family member; Milo.
It seemed as though as the years went on, Rhett came out of his shell a little more, though he still had that anti-social aspect, and was far more interested in setting Milo on people than actually interacting with them, he had secured himself some pretty firm friendships. Some more meaningful than others, of course. Nonetheless, he did his best. And that much was clearly a turn on with women, the loner mechanic with the dog who just seemed to wonder the streets, a sense of mystery about him, as apparently he had become a bit of a player without ever really intending to. He was honest, they had to give him that, right? Rhett had always told them what he wanted and what they would get out of it, and if they wanted more, than they needed to go elsewhere. Some may perceive it was blunt and arrogant, but in actual fact, that wasn’t really him. He was not the stereotypical asshole that just toyed with women’s hearts to get into their pants until he was done with them, his mother had taught him better than that. It was simply that he was not ready for anything more. Not yet. Hence why the biggest commitment he had ever made was getting Milo, even his apartment was rented, he didn’t own it. And his childhood home was that of his deceased mother’s, so this was not something he had grounding him, as he didn’t even freakin’ live there. So, while you may see the flannel wearing mechanic about town looking pretty simple and small town, he really was the epitome of not judging a book by it’s cover. There was always more to people, and Rhett definitely fit into that category, it was just a case of being patient and paying attention to every chapter along the way.

Jessica Biel for Los Angeles Confidential July-August 2006
THE REAL BIEL When the "sexiest woman alive" also turns out to be refreshingly down to earth, you have to believe she really was heaven-sent. By Cristina Kinon • Photographs by Brian Bowen Smith/Montage WE ALL GOT TO KNOW JESSICA BIEL as Mary Camden, the rebellious reverend's daughter on 7th Heaven. Soon after, she was screaming her way through The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, slaying vampires in Blade: Trinity, flying a killer plane in Stealth, and looking sexier than every other woman alive on the cover of 2005's Esquire. These days, she's just trying to cope with turn of the century Vienna society in The Illusionist—all while living the life of a normal 20-something girl in Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES CONFIDENTIAL: Let's talk about your new film The Illusionist with Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti. What's it about? JESSICA BIEL: The film is... really hard to describe. It's unique and beautiful, an old-school style romance filled with the mystery and suspense of 1900s Vienna society and culture. It's about what these two people sacrifice trying to be together even though they are from very different parts of society.
LAC: How was it to act in a period piece? It's a very different style from your most recent roles. JB: It was very challenging, but really fun. Having an accent was great, but it took a lot of work. It was exciting for me to do something I haven't done before and that I don't have in my repertoire. The costumes, the locations, everything really helped to create this person who lived 100 years ago.
LAC: What kind of research did you do for the role? JB: [Director] Neil Burger lent me a handful of different books on the Habsburgs, who were kind of royalty living in Vienna at that time. I studied what women did every day—their lifestyle, culture, what was allowed, how they were supposed to behave in society and at home... just how different it really used to be. And I modeled my character, Princess Sophie, after Alma Mahler, composer Gustav Mahler's wife. I read this book—it was basically her diary—about her life and it really opened my eyes. She basically felt like a bird in a cage. And that's how Sophie feels in this movie. She just wants to fall in love with the person that she truly cares about, not just someone that's good for her in theory and for her family. She just wants to live life.
LAC: You mentioned your "repertoire," which is quite eclectic. Is that some-thing you've done consciously, or have these roles just come along at the right time? JB: I think it's been a bit of both. I've always been interested in doing dif-ferent things, trying to never repeat styles—at least not back to back. Whatever I had just done, I was intrigued and inspired to do the complete opposite.... Texas [Chainsaw Massacre] came about and I couldn't turn it down, so I didn't really want to do another action movie, but then Blade came up, and then Stealth. It's sort of just luck of the draw—roles pop up that you can't say no to, but it is a conscious choice to not only do action movies, like with The Illusionist.
LAC: What is your dream role? JB: I'm hoping someone will ask me to do some sort of a life story—an auto-biography of a musician, something with music. Or film noir, like a 1930s sus-pense scandal story about Hollywood.
LAC: How do you feel about 7th Heaven being picked up for another sea-son? Will you make any more appearances? JB: I know, it's crazy! But I have no idea. 7th Heaven has been wonderful to and for me, and I will always be grateful for that. I love the entire cast and everyone involved in the show so it's always a definite possibility.
LAC: What was the driving force behind your initially leaving the show? JB: Initially, I just wanted to go to college. I hadn't experienced traditional-style high school. I wanted to be around kids my own age and to stop work-ing full time. I was burned out.
LAC: You've spoken out in the past about how you won't pose for certain men's magazines like FHM and Maxim. Do you still feel that way, and what provoked that decision? JB: I do still feel that way. I think my experience working with Gear magazine [in 2000; some have said the controversial topless shoot led to Biel being let out of her 7th Heaven contract] was the number one reason.Plus, I feel like I've already done that, and I'm not interested in it anymore.
LAC: Well, regardless of your attitude toward them, these magazines still vote you onto their "hottest" lists year after year. Do you pay attention to that? JB: Not really, but I do always think it's flattering to be in the company of the caliber of people on those lists.
LAC: What about Esquire voting you "sexiest woman alive" last year? JB: That was totally different. I really respect Esquire, and for them to [give me that title] was extremely flattering. When I found out I was just like, Who voted for me? My parents? It was unbelievable. And the photographs were super classy and very beautiful.
LAC: What do you do in LA for fun? JB: I think it's such a great city to be in when you're 20-something. Lately my thing has been going to see movies in the Hollywood cemetery. It's a really unique LA experience. Sometimes friends and I will sing karaoke at the Gaslight. And I love taking my dog to the dog beach in Huntington. LAC: What's up next for you? JB: I have Home of the Brave, a movie about American soldiers coming home from Iraq coming out in 2007, and right now I'm in the middle of shooting Next, a romantic action movie with Nick Cage and Julianne Moore.
LAC: I read you were once offered a role in Broadway's Rent—is that true? JB: I did audition for the Broadway production of Rent and was offered the Maureen role. I ended up not taking it because I really wanted to create character from scratch and being on Broadway in a show like Rent that character is already there and you're really working inside a box. But it is one of my favorite musicals ever, and sometimes I look back and I wouldn't say regret it, but I do think it could have been amazing.
LAC: So you're a singer, too. Think you'll ever cross over and put out a CD? JB: Singing was my first passion. I had been singing since I was eight year old and was always the musical theater geek, even up until I landed 7th Heaven. I'd like to bring it back, but it's really hard to transition from film to music unless you're extremely talented. There are so many good female artists around today, I would be wary of trying anything right now unless got together a great band—definitely not as a solo artist. *

Jonah Fisher || 34 || Loft #602 || Kyle Gallner || Closed
Personality:
first and foremost, jonah thinks in pictures. his mind is a canvas and the only thing that changes is the paint or shadings that spread across it. creativity is where he thrives the most, which has always left him more reserved. he tends to drift off into his own world or observe and bank it for later. that doesn’t mean he’s not paying attention (though sometimes he isn’t) and it’s worked well that his brother has been happy to speak for him whether he wants him to or not. no matter, he’s not afraid to speak up if someone is wrong or he disagrees. he’s generally perceived as gloomy and his sardonic quips don’t help matters much. this is where he’s often contradictory to himself. he enjoys people, being around them and especially if they are like-minded in some sense. to those that he loves and/or cares about most, he is loyal to a fault, which extends to the community he was raised in. with that loyalty comes the willingness to help, which likely came from his father. he’s not the smartest bulb in the bunch but he is quite passionate about art and philosophy, not limited to conspiracy theories and things of that nature.
Biography:
when sylvia fisher found out she was pregnant, she was excited to grow her family with her unsuspecting husband, mark. his shock was far from the first surprise to be had, though. first it was the discovery that she was having twins and the second, more unfortunate, was that he would be raising the boys alone. sylvia passed from complications during the surgical c-section, rare as it was but still a risk all the same. that didn’t stop mark from raising his boys to the best of his ability though. his sister stepped in to help, already having kids of her own, as mark being a staten island firefighter kept his schedule busy.
despite jonah’s being seven and a half minutes older than his twin judah, he hardly felt like the eldest brother. he was not as outgoing, nor as smart as him. the one resounding ability he had was input of wild ideas and half-developed plans that judah would complete, fine tune, and run with. he was his best friend growing up and honestly, still is. sure, they didn’t always see eye to eye on everything, but they could normally find some kind of compromise and their father instilled the same values in both of them. hard work, community, loyalty, and helping those who can’t help themselves. with these values they were able to finish school mostly unscathed and without burning the place down, turning into somewhat suitable adults with blind ambition that ended up working out for them in the long run.
jonah didn’t waste time with college, higher education was not his destiny nor was it even an interest. he was already an artist, he wanted to further this talent— sharpen his skills in a mode he’d already been practicing with, tattooing. jonah got an apprenticeship with a long time artist and shop and soaked in the knowledge like a sponge. learning was much easier when it was all visual. eventually he got the idea to open up a shop of his own in the part of the city he loved. judah encouraged the idea and furthered it with the addition of an auto shop as well. which was perfect because their uncle, had left his auto-shop to his brother mark who, in turn, gave it to the boys to use to create a future for themselves in some way as long as they didn’t sell it while he was still alive. it was perfect, and together they fixed the place up to be the first (as far as they knew at least) tattoo, piercing, and auto shop in the world.
when the outbreak happened, they had been going about their day like any other. jonah had woken up on his half of their renovated airstream and started coffee, then popped a jimmy dean breakfast sandwich in the microwave. it wasn’t until they were both already in the shop waiting for their first appointments for the day that they heard the warnings. they didn’t waste any time springing into action, jonah didn’t even take time to be smug about one of the many doomsday predictions he’d spouted off coming to fruition finally. he was already prepared. together they cleared the shop of extra vehicles and used them to help block entrance. they then locked down the shop and went out to help the community the best they could. a couple employees and a few community members locked down with them and helped them secure the building fully.
everything had been going as good as it could under the circumstances. for months they were able to sustain themselves on the supplies they’d stocked up in storage (making a few runs for more to neighboring places when possible). judah had kept the backup generator going, maintain the solar panels on the roof, and the well their uncle had put in before they were even born gave them a water source, though they still needed to conserve it. there wasn’t as high of a risk of water contamination with factories no longer running. they’d even found a way to attach the airstream by tunnel so they had more space to sleep and privacy. but all good things must come to an end. mutiny was the means to the end. it started with one of the shop residents not liking the way things were done and once the snow was off the ground they made their move to take over. some of them still sided with the fishers, and it started a fight that ended with unnecessary violence and their safe place stolen from under their feet.
jonah had half a mind to start the place on fire so no one could have it, but it was judah that reminded him they could maybe return again someday. perhaps when karma (if that’s something you can believe in) pays them back. they took what they could and set out to find what was next. what they found, was a boat and later they witnessed a whole fireworks show. they kept their distance but made their way into manhattan and kept looking around until they found the wexley. it ain’t home, but they’re hoping they can hang out until they figure out what to do about getting their shop back.
Pre Outbreak Occupation: Co-Owner of Tattoo / Piercing / Chop Shop Previous Zombie Experience: just the ones that would get too close to the shop and the ones they had to deal with on day one. he isn’t a stranger to killing chompers. Marital Status: Single Children: N/A Residence: Studio #602 Years residing at The Wexley: Post Outbreak New Arrival Connections: Judah Fisher - Fraternal Twin Brother

Biography
clementine has always been determined to be the exact opposite of what people expected of her, and the thought of conformity made her skin crawl. this made her the mortal enemy of teachers, coaches, and most importantly, her father. they would butt heads constantly. while her elder brother strove to fulfill their father's dreams, clementine was determined to shed every expectation he had set for her. despite being wildly creative, wicked smart, and uniquely inventive, she shunned the idea of college. instead, she packed up everything she owned and moved out of their family home on the day she turned 18.
the one salvation clementine had growing up was her brothers, and so when she left home, she knew she had to stay close. when rhodes approached her with the idea of moving to palmview grove, she jumped at the chance. the further she could get from home, the happier she would be. since she'd never been able to hold down a steady job, there was not really much for her to leave behind.
things have been going decidedly better for clementine since she's come to palmview grove. while she still can't settle into a career she loves, she's been able to make new friends and has even found a great apartment with roommates she doesn't mind living with. it's not perfect, no, but she's happy. which is more than she ever expected. her current job is working as a mechanic, and being active with her hands has given her a satisfaction she never really expected. plus, in her free time, she gets to work on whatever project tickles her fancy.
