Planning
—
“Do you need help with that?”
“What?” Kili startled. He had been lost in his mental list of things that he needed to get done for the holidays. At the top of his list was “make a list.”
“Those,” Fili Durin pointed to the boxes filling Kili’s hands.
“No. Thanks. I’ve got it,” Kili replied, shouldering the door open.
“You don’t look like you’ve ‘got it,’” Fili said skeptically as the boxes teetered precariously.
“I’m fine,” Kili said more brusquely than intended. He did not want to be friends with Fili Duirn. He was the person that the town had brought in to design a new downtown. And that pretty much always meant more roads and more parking which meant more money was needed to maintain the roads and then there was less money for the library and functional landscaping that Kili advocated for. And as one of the town’s part-time librarians he felt that it was his job to give this errant urban planner the shoulder, no matter how good he looked in a flannel shirt and Chelsea boots.
“I really can get the door for you.”
Kili did not respond and managed to open the door into the post office without dropping any of the packages that he had carefully packed and labeled just that morning in between customers in his stop of odds and ends. He tried to keep the website current, and, even though that was not his favorite task, a significant portion of his business came through the internet.
“Christmas presents?”
Kili’s eyes rolled so far back in his head that he could feel his head tip back. “No,” he replied without turning around.
“What’s in the packages then?”
“Orders.”
“What kind of orders?”
Kili turned around. “Orders that get mailed. I’m assuming that you have something that needs to be mailed and that’s why you followed me in here.”
“I was here before you, so, technically, you followed me.”
Kili snorted.
“And yes, I am mailing something—Christmas cards,” Fili pulled a thick stack of luxurious white envelopes from his field jacket’s pocket as proof.
“I would have pegged you as the ‘e-mailed greeting card’ or ‘post on social media’ person.”
Fili grimaced in disgust, scrunching his nose. “Absolutely not.”
“That would be more efficient.”
“In some ways.”
“And urban planners are all about efficiency,” Kili grumbled. He turned away from Fili to face the back of the person ahead of him in line, hoping that this meant the conversation was at an end. He wanted to ask what sort of cards Fili was mailing. Those envelopes suggested something more expensive than the box of 20 cards that you could buy in any drug store. Books and paper were Kili’s forte. He once spent an afternoon arguing with someone (online!) about the pros and cons of Tomoe River Paper versus MIO paper.
And then it was his turn. Kili set all the packages down and made small talk with the postal employee about the weather and the upcoming holiday parade and the town’s annual Sip and Shop.
“Sip and Shop?” Fili was leaning on the counter at the window next to his.
Kili really did try not to notice how Fili’s eyes almost sparkled (how gross was that? And, more importantly, how was it even possible?) when he asked the question. “Haven’t you seen the fliers? They’re everywhere.”
Fili turned to face Kili more fully, one elbow still propped on the counter. “Maybe. But I don’t think I get it.”
“It’s to promote shopping local over the holidays,” Janice, one of the postal workers said.
“There’s an ordinance in place that lets the restaurants downtown serve wine and beer alongside appetizers while people shop and enjoy the Christmas displays and lights.”
“That’s a good idea. And it sounds fun.”
“It is a great time,” Janice said. And then she gave him his total for his postage. “Have a good rest of your Friday,” she said with a smile.
And Fili was still hot on Kili’s heels when they were leaving the squat brick building that housed the post office. “Are you going to be joining in the sipping and shopping?”
“I probably have to work.” Kili waved goodbye and climbed on his bike before Fili could say anything more.
Kili did not see it, but Fili watched him pedal away,
—
The downtown was glowing with Christmas lights. Most of the stores had put up lights at the very least, some had displays, and others had their employees dressed up like elves. He smiled and took a sip of his hot chocolate.
This time of year was Kili’s favorite. He had many fond memories of reading books with his parents and helping with the Christmas shopping and preparations.
“Hard at work I see.”
Kili could not even summon the annoyance that he tried to hold close to his chest whenever Fili was around. He shrugged. “This is work,” Kili gestured to the streets. “Supporting my town.”
“Hmm.” Fili nodded. His bare hands were wrapped around a paper cup.
“What drink did you pick?” Kili asked.
“Oh,” Fili lifted the cup to peer at the marker label, “the Krampus, I think it was?”
“That’s a good one.”
“You?”
“Hot chocolate. I would have gotten their peppermint mocha, but if I have caffeine after dinner I’ll be up all night.”
“Ah. I don’t have that problem, but I’ve always been a night owl.”
Kili nodded and they stood next to one another in silence. But it wasn’t a tense or uncomfortable silence, like Kili would have expected. It was companionable. Comfortable even.
“It’s nice that they closed the street for this,” Fili said.
Kili tensed, “Something that probably won’t happen once you’re done.”
“What?’ Fili’s expression was bewildered.
“You’re here to redesign the downtown.”
“Yeah…” Fili said slowly. “And what do you think that entails?”
Kili huffed, blowing his bangs off his forehead. “What it always does—wider streets, more parking, and so on.”
“Have you seen any of my work?”
“No.”
“That’s not what I do at all,” Fili said. “See those painted areas by the corner?”
“Yeah,” Kili grumped. He was both pleased and displeased to maybe be proven wrong.
“Those are to allow for something called ‘daylighting’ which means that the cars can see cars in the intersecting road, but also that they can see pedestrians and pedestrians can see the cars without stepping into the way of traffic.”
“That sounds fine.”
“It is. But paint doesn’t stop people from parking there. And it doesn’t stop an errant car from breaching the sidewalk. My plans have the road narrowing at the intersection to force daylighting, but there will also be bollards to protect pedestrians from those cars should they exit their lanes. The bollards will also visually narrow the lane which will encourage cars to slow down. Narrower lanes will help with that as well.”
Kili’s expression softened as he listened. “That all sounds good.”
“It is,” Fili replied. It will encourage more foot traffic, which will bring more sales to all these little shops. There will still be street parking, and the parking behind the shops, but what already exists is actually more than adequate, it could actually stand to be reduced to make the downtown even more walkable.”
Kili raised his eyebrows.
“Not what you expected?”
“No,” Kili shook his head. “That’s not what I expected at all.”
“Sometimes it’s good to be surprised,” Fili replied with a wink.
“It is. But it also solves some inner conflict I had been having.”
“Oh?” Fili cocked his head.
Kili reached out with the pretense of brushing a strand of hair from Fili’s face, but it was just an excuse to trace his thumb over Fili’s cheekbone. “Yeah,” he replied softly. “And that’s that I didn’t want our town being ruined by more parking and more cars, but I also really wanted to invite you back to mine and to find out how much of a night owl you are.”
“Oh.”

No. 15
“I don't need you to help me, I can handle things myself.” | Makeshift Bandages | Suppressed Suffering | “I’m fine.”
Pairing: Fili/Kili Rating: T Universe: Fast Car (formerly Dead Batteries) Words: 1579
--
Warnings: Alcohol consumption, hangovers, bad life choices, implied Kili/OCs, references to earlier events of physical and emotional abuse.
--
“I’m fine,” was the lie that Kili told everyone. He told it to his teachers, himself, his friends, and even Fili.
After his mom died? I’m fine.
After his dad found out like Kili liked boys? I’m fine.
After Fili showed up drunk in the middle of the night and left Kili conflicted with the fact that he liked his best friend in that way. “I’m fine.”
After Fili almost fought Kili’s father in his front yard? “I’m fine.”
College professors? His college roommate? The other drunk kids at parties? “I’m fine.”
Ari and Tauriel were the first people that Kili admitted that, no, he wasn’t in fact fine. Granted, Ari had been holding his hair back while he puked at the time, but it was still true.
“Have some water,” Ari urged, holding out a plastic cup emblazoned with the Student Union’s logo.
Kili leaned back against the cold ceramic of the tub. “Thanks,” he said weakly, taking the cup with a shaky hand.
“Do you always get so drunk that you sleep on random people’s floors?” Tauriel asked as she passed by the bathroom door again. She was busy cleaning up her and Ari’s campus housing from their Thirsty Thursday party the night before.
“I…” Kili hung his head. He wanted to say no. No, he did not routinely wake up on the floor. No he was not regularly so hung over that he had actually made sure that none of his classes started until afternoon. “Yes.” He took a sip of the water. He wanted to drink more to rinse his mouth out and to feel hydrated again, but he knew from experience that he should not do that.
“Is that fun?” Ari asked.
“It can be,” Tauriel interjected again. This time she stopped in the doorway with a plastic trash bag hanging from one hand.
“I was asking him,” Ari said. She turned to Kili. “I don’t think I ever actually got your name last night.”
Kili opened his mouth to answer, but he had to lunge for the toilet again. Ari rubbed his back when he was done.
“It’s Kili.”
“I’m Ari.”
“Tauriel.”
“Thanks for doing this. I know you have better ways to spend your Friday mornings. I can just go, actually,” Kili started to stand.
“Stay.” Ari’s hand on Kili’s shoulder prevented from rising.
Tauriel shrugged. “It’s not like I was going to my 9:40am philosophy class anyway.”
“What one are you taking?” Kili asked, deflecting. “I was thinking about taking one next fall.”
“Philosophy and the Modern Drama. I do not recommend it.”
“Noted.” Kili picked up the cup of water and took another stip.
“So, is it fun?” Ari reiterated her question.
“You’ll have to excuse her; she doesn’t drink,” Tauriel said before walking off again to clean up some more.
Kili shrugged and stared and his legs and the pink ‘70s tile that the University had never seen fit to remove from its student houses. “Sometimes?” he offered. “There’s a point where it is fun. I’m more relaxed, I’m not worrying, I’m laughing, I’m making other people laugh, but it’s hard to stay at that sweet spot. If I get too sober then the feeling goes away and I just feel out of place, but if I keep drinking it always tips over into more drunk, feeling out of control, sometimes blacking out. And that always ends with hangovers like this.”
“Then why do it?”
“Why does anyone do it?”
“I do it for the social aspects,” Tauriel said loudly from the other room. “Most people on the archery team drink, so I drink to fit in. And I don’t drink so much that I’m stuck on the floor the next day. Plus I have a system. If I always had to deal with hangovers like that,” she was in the doorway again pointing at Kili, “then I would ot drink. The bad would outweigh the good at that point.”
“Why don’t you drink?” Kili asked. He turned the plastic cup between his fingertips.
“I just don’t like it,” Ari said. “I did try it, but I did not like the way it felt, how it felt when I woke up, and I just never wanted to do it again. I don’t mind if other people drink, and I’m happy to make sure my friends are safe if they do.”
Ari and Tauriel did not say anything, clearly waiting for Kili to answer the question.
“I…” Kili trailed off, not sure what he wanted to say. “I guess I want to forget stuff, and drinking makes that easier?”
Ari and Tauriel shared a look. Ari brushed a curl behind one ear. “Forget what?”
Kili started to speak but stopped. He drew his knees up. “I screwed some stuff up before I came here. Actually by coming here.”
“Okay…? I’m listening.”
“I was seeing this guy. We’d grown up together, we were best friends, and then we were more. I wanted to stay there and be with him, but I just couldn’t and there was no way that he was going to come to Chicago with me.”
“Why not stay in California? They have a lot of schools?” Ari asked gently.
Kili wiped his nose. He had not noticed that he had started crying. “My dad. We were cool together when I was little, but then he started drinking a lot after my mom died. And then when I told him I thought I was gay… things just got a lot worse. At first he just yelled, but then he started using his fists.”
Ari covered her mouth with one hand, her eyes wide.
“And then the same week I got my acceptance letter with my financial aid package with its full funding, Fili and my father almost fought each other in the front yard of my dad’s place. I knew then that I couldn’t stay there anymore. I had finally realized that nothing could make me stay. And then I just clammed up and didn’t share that with Fili… so we didn’t even get that last summer together. I ended up working a lot and watching a lot of crap television until it was time to move here. And I think I made a huge mistake. I think I should have stayed. I think about him all the time still. I miss him.”
Ari placed a hand on Kili’s knee, “Kili…”
“Can I kick your dad’s ass?” Tauriel interrupted.
Kili snorted in surprised laughter. “What? Yeah. Sure.”
“Good. What a douchenozzle.”
Kili smiled despite himself.
“Your dad and my dad can get beers together and then get some matching black eyes from my lovely girlfriend here,” Ari said. “And it sounds like it was an impossible decision. If you had stayed you might be thinking that it was a mistake too.”
“I know. It just… It sucks.”
“It does,” Tauriel agreed. “Do you think you could handle some eggs? I’ve got a few left and some breakfast meats if anyones hungry.”
“Omelet, but hold the ‘breakfast meats’,” Ari said.
“I already know your opinion about breakfast meats, but what about our new friend.”
Ari rolled her eyes and stood.
Kili looked from one to the other. “I get the feeling like there is some innuendo with that question.”
“Have to find out now if you’re going to be a good fit if you stick around,” Tauriel shrugged. “So, do you like sausage for breakfast?”
Kili’s cheeks turned a bit pink before he spoke, “All sausage is good sausage.”
Ari crinkled her nose. “You can have all the sausage then.” She helped Kili to his feet.
Tauriel grinned wickedly, “This is generally a meat / sausage free household, except for the occasional artificial meat product.”
“You’re horrible,” Ari accused.
“But you love me.”
“So you assume.” Ari kissed Tauriel’s cheek as she brushed past her.
They set up camp at the round kitchen table that had seen better days having been passed from student accommodation to student accommodation since it was discarded by its original owner. Tauriel turned on the radio, and started the busy work of making breakfast, and they went through the preliminary conversations of getting to know one another. By the time the omelets were gone and Kili had been half-bullied into eating all of the proffered sausage (he just felt bad eating all of their food, and he was worried about getting sick again) they had exchanged phone numbers, friended each other on Facebook, and made plans to meet up later in week to do some studying.
And slowly Kili started telling people that he was not “fine.” He told his professors when he needed more time on assignments rather than just working himself into an anxious mess and turning in subpar work that left him with a bad taste in his mouth, and the poor grade he received as a result did nothing to help anything.
He made an appointment with the school’s counselor.
And he stopped drinking enough to black out on a regular basis, which meant that he no longer woke up on strange floors or with strange people. He more often than not woke up on the futon in Ari and Tauriel’s campus apartment hungover on too many carbs (in the form of pizza and garlic bread bites) and Mountain Dew.
And eventually he wasn’t lying when he said he was fine.
But sometimes he wasn’t.
And he knew that was okay.

Bagginshield Modern AUs
They're all set in a modern time, that's for sure.
A Remover of Obstacles by MistakenMagic. Complete - E - 371k
"Dis often chided her older brother for being a misanthropist. She did it so often it had become a term of endearment. It was true that Thorin struggled with people; he struggled to form and maintain relationships. Dr. Grey had diagnosed him with this and Thorin hadn’t the heart to tell him this wasn’t a symptom of his PTSD, it was a symptom of his personality. He exercised a sense of apathy with almost everyone he met… But Bilbo was different. Thorin actually found himself wanting to know more about him."
Alone is a word not meant for you by authoressjean. Complete- G- 5k This is the first fic I ever read in this fandom :)
The holidays are fast approaching, and Thorin's been dreading them, now that it's just him and his nephews. Harder still given that Fili still barely speaks and hasn't really since Dis died.
So when Kili drags them into the bookstore to look for children's literature author Mr. Baggins' new book, and they find the author himself reading his latest, Thorin isn't expecting anything beyond maybe making his nephews a little happier. He certainly isn't expecting to find something for himself but he may have done just that.
By Request by HildyJ. Complete - G - 2.2k
As a musician, Thorin's life can be summed up in tempos. For instance, the concerto he's performing on Friday is Allegro - quick and bright, followed by Andantino - slightly slow, and then back to Allegro again.
On the other hand, his relationship with his cute neighbour? Larghissimo - very, very slow.
Fairy Nests by MilkTeaMiku. Complete - NR - 27k
Bilbo is a fairy. Thorin builds fairy houses.
Flowers and Flaws by Erinye. Complete - G - 58k
There are few things Thorin feels about as deeply as he does about flowers - his nephews’ education, the conservation of Derbyshire dales, Sunday’s lunch with Dís and the boys. Until one day a stranger with flowers tattooed all over his arms shows up at the shop and Thorin would rather like to indulge in the meaning of every single blossom inked on the stranger’s skin. But the stranger may not be a stranger after all and though he has flowers on his wrists, he may not wear his heart on his sleeve.
Bilbo Baggins is at a turning point. Call it mid-life crisis, call it responsibility, call it teaching Geography to kids in the bloody middle of Derbyshire. Of one thing Bilbo is certain: disgruntled-yet-rather-endearing florists are not what he needs in his life right now. Definitely.
Good Things by orphan_account. Complete - M - 12k
A car accident leaves a once proud and egotistical Thorin scarred and partially blind, and he locks himself away from the outside world, certain that he deserves a life devoid of human interaction.
It Started With A Cup Of Tea by alkjira. Complete - G - 9k
“It'll be very good for you, and most amusing for me."
Those were the words that heralded Bilbo Baggins’ transformation into a cat.
Plan B by Drenagon. Complete - G - 85k
Plan B: an alternative strategy; a contingency plan, devised for an outcome other than the expected plan.
Or, sending an unqualified temp to act as Thorin Oakenshield's PA because no one qualified can put up with him.
(He'd say they can't meet his standards. Of course he would.)
Meet Bilbo Baggins. He just became Plan B.
Share My Space by thesoundofnat. Complete - G - 4.7k
Bilbo is on a business trip and is staying at his old friend Balin’s place while he’s in town. What Balin forgot to mention was that his very attractive cousin Thorin was visiting as well with his nephews. What happens when Balin’s brother suddenly shows up and Bilbo is forced to share a room with Thorin?
The Ghost And Mr Baggins by perkynurples. Complete - G - 76k
They say that everything can be cured by saltwater - sweat, tears or the sea. Bilbo Baggins chooses the last option, taking his recently orphaned nephew and moving to the charming Oak Cottage, overlooking England’s grislier shores. The house charms him instantly, and though he knows nothing at all about the sea, or about making ends meet on his own so far from everything he’s known his whole life for that matter, he’s quite determined to stay, and see his nephew get better, odd sounds in the night be damned. He’s living in a modern world, after all, and the nonsense he’s been hearing about the house being haunted by its former owner, the mysterious Captain Durin, is just silly superstition… isn’t it?
The Grocer and The Prince by HildyJ. Complete - G - 9k
Sometimes separate worlds touch briefly, allowing travel from one place to another. But no matter the world, Bilbo and Thorin seem to always find each other.
Winter Wish by Jezunya. Complete - G - 1.4k
Frodo climbs up onto the stepstool, Bilbo’s hand on his back to steady him, and grasps the edge of the table in his little hands, carefully following the two DJs’ instructions of not too close and speak slowly and clearly and you’re doing great, kid, and then, when they nod and tell him to start, he says, right into the microphone:
“My Winter Wish is for my uncle to get a boyfriend.”

Modern!Fíli AU written by @laurfilijames and @guardianofrivendell
Summary: Lucy is a smart, independent woman who’s getting dragged into her father’s past against her will. Fíli, who is working for the family’s security agency, receives his next assignment: guarding Lucy. Interesting chaos, but still chaos. Until things start to get serious and they have to work together to stay alive.

Chapter 6 will be here Friday June 25th (fingers crossed!) at 5 pm CET
If you don’t want to miss any updates, you can ask to be on the series taglist!
GUARDING YOUR HEART MASTERLIST
Teaser below the ‘read more’ cut
Warnings: tensionnnnnnnn (chapter 6 will have a few more warnings, it’s a very intense one)
Lucy stood in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, cup of tea in hand. She was watching how Fíli was cleaning out the fireplace . The whole scene had a certain coziness to it, like they belonged and she felt a warmth in her stomach that didn’t come from the hot tea. They were practically acting like a married couple now. Okay, maybe she was letting herself get carried away a bit there but Lucy couldn’t deny that she wasn’t entirely opposed to the idea. Even though she met him only a couple weeks ago, being with Fíli felt right.
She almost couldn’t believe it, but at that moment she felt genuinely happy. Sure, her life was in shambles, everything she knew and was familiar with got ripped away from her in an instant, but she was getting used to this new way of life, this new life with Fili.
He seemed happy too, which only added to her content mood, and it made her feel good to know that they had grown past the point of annoyance and irritation with each other.
She had to remind herself that this was only temporary, there was going to be a time where she had to say goodbye and pick up her old life again. Pushing that thought all the way to the back of her mind, she decided to simply enjoy the time she had left with Fíli.
These last days especially made her feel content and giddy, maybe it was because of the abundant supply of food they now had.
Lucy decided to cook lunch for him for once, usually being the one to always enjoy the meals he put so much effort in. Fili continued to be so sweet and attentive toward her, making sure she was comfortable at all times and had everything she needed. It was time to return the favour, feeling extra generous toward him.
“Are you sure you don’t need any help?” he asked once he was done with the fireplace and had everything cleaned up. He didn’t particularly enjoy standing idle while she worked away in the kitchen prepping their meal.
“I told you, I’m sure!” she smiled at him, stirring the simmering pasta sauce. He had questioned her choice of making pasta for lunch, but she easily convinced him it was a great idea after barely being able to scrape together anything decent before supplies arrived. It felt almost like a celebration, although she was disappointed there was no wine to go with it.
“You know, there’s plenty of food, you don’t have to save anything for later,” Fíli teased her, leaning on the counter next to her.
She looked up at him in question, not getting what he was hinting at.
“You got something on your cheek,” he explained, pointing at the spot of red sauce that had splattered onto her skin.
“Where, here?”
“No, the other side-”
She continued to rub at her face, only to miss it every time which caused him to chuckle and finally step towards her to do it himself.
“Let me,” he said, gently running his thumb over the spot.
“I would’ve got it eventually,” she smiled again at him, “thank you, though.”
He didn’t say anything else, keeping his hand on her cheek instead, and slightly moved his thumb to caress the soft skin. She leaned into his touch and closed her eyes, basking in their proximity and the feel of his calloused fingers on her skin.
Her eyes reopened when she felt his other hand reach up to hold her vacant cheek, only to see his blue eyes staring at her longingly.
Lucy willed him to make a move, to close the short space that existed between their lips, eager to know what it would feel like, how he would taste.
As if he had heard her silent plea, Fíli leaned slightly closer and tipped his head just enough so that his nose brushed against her cheek and she held her breath in anticipation.
He suddenly backed away from her and dropped his hands from her face, his attention and hands now moving to the pot of water that was boiling over on the stove.
Lucy sighed and cursed internally, wondering if they were ever going to cross the line he had drawn between them, and stop dancing around it instead. It certainly seemed like he wanted to. He had been sleeping next to her in the bed ever since the thunderstorm, and continued to do so many little things that might hint at him growing reciprocating feelings towards her.
Even though she knew this might not progress into anything because of their situation, she couldn’t stop herself from wanting him anyway.

Fluffuary 2023 - Day 17 - rainy day OR caught in the rain
Fili & Kili, G
Ao3
--
They were tucked into their beds with the promise of snow in the morning. The weatherman had been talking about nothing else all day. Each channel had a red ticker running along the bottom of the screen to make sure that everyone knew about the snow. It was supposed to be the worst storm in a decade. There was supposed to be almost 18 inches of snow. And it was Friday night so they would have two whole days to play in the snow before they had to go back to school.
“I want it to be tomorrow now!” Kili whined.
“You’re going to lay in your bed, cuddling your bear, and fall asleep. When you wake up it will be tomorrow.”
“And we can go outside right away?” Kili took the stuffed bear from his mother’s hands.
“Not right away, dear. You have to brush your teeth, and eat breakfast, and—”
“But that’s all boring.” Kili crinkled his nose.
“It won’t take long,” Fili popped down from the top bunk, his hair swaying as he hung upside down. “Especially if we have cereal instead of eggs.”
“I like the eggs.”
“But cereal is faster,” Fili countered.
Kili’s lower lip stuck out.
“Eggs don’t take that long,” Dis intervened. “They take a little bit longer, but not a lot longer. And you will have all day to play outside. But you will have to come in for lunch and dinner,” she added as an afterthought.
“But right now, it’s time to sleep.” Dis pulled the blanket up to Kili’s chin and tucked it in around his body while he wiggled happily.
Fili was “too old” to be tucked in anymore. So she gave him a kiss on the forehead and she smoothed the blankets near his feet. When Dis went to close the curtains Fili asked, “Can we keep them open? I want to watch the snow.”
“How about half-way?” Dis offered. “I don’t want the light to keep you both up, but you’ll still be able to see the snow.” Both boys had been planted in front of the bay window watching the first of the giant fluffy flakes fall to the ground. Their breath fogged the glass. They giggled and drew smiley faces and snowmen before smearing the fog away so they could see the snow once more.
Fili nodded and lay down.
-
In the morning there was no snow.
Kili stood on his tiptoes, his little toes purple with cold, and stared out their bedroom window. There was brown grass with bits of dead leaves, but no snow. “Fili! Where’s the snow?” Kili demanded.
Where there should have been piles of white snow and drifts around the edges of buildings there were puddles. The whole patio was under water.
The snow had turned to rain sometime around midnight. All the snow that had fallen melted away.
“I wanted to build a snow angle,” Kili pouted.
“Angel,” Fili corrected, joining his brother. “We could jump in puddles. You like puddles.”
“I wanted an igloo.” Kili wiped his nose and turned around from the window.
“Maybe Uncle Thorin will help us make boats we can float?”
“That could be fun,” Kili said begrudgingly.
“Let’s go ask him.”

Then she hugged Kíli again, this time very tightly. Fíli barely heard her whisper, “I missed you,” as she pressed her face into Kíli’s hair.
“We missed you too,” Kíli said, stepping away from (Y/N) and looking back to Fíli, who was still making his way across the floor. He felt as if his boots were sinking into dry sand with each step toward her.
And when she looked at him, he sank further, unable to move any closer.
(Y/N), however, had no problem coming to him. In fact, by the time she’d crossed half of the space between them, she was running to him.
She was running to him.
He reached out to her and caught her as she landed before him, in his arms. She said his name, her breath hot on his neck where she’d tucked her face against him. He cupped the back of her head and held her, determined not to let her go this time.

tagged by @leonzhng thanks for making me dig through my most embarrassing crushes 😭✋
i’ll tag @highwarlockkareena @yibobibo @lan-xichens @purplexedhuman @aheartfullofjolllly @lanzhansmiles @nyx4 i feel like i tag you guys in everything i am so sorry please ignore this if u don’t wanna do it !!
putting this under a read more for reasons
MEN 2010 – 2016
literally nothing more embarrassing than falling on the same type of white man over and over again (with the exception of minho from shinee bless his heart)
tommy joe ratliff → he was the bass player for adam lambert during his glamnation era (think of songs like for your entertainment and if i had you) idk why exactly i liked him so much but i just did.... however i searched him up again quite recently and found out he’s one of those republicans that says the dumbest shit on twitter so Big Yikes
harry styles → “baby you light up my world like nobody else, the way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, and when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell...” and BOOM 13-year-old me was sold for well over two years
louis tomlinson → basically i liked harry most until around 2013 when for some reason i started to like him a little less, and i got more focused on louis tomlinson, and although i didn’t like one direction anymore louis tomlinson always had a special place in my heart
ashton irwin → so ashton is 5sos’ drummer, i discovered 5sos through one direction & i stanned them until late 2014
harries twins → the harries twins (jack & finn) are basically the reason i started spending a lot of time on youtube, they were funny and pretty and they just had good videos in general, so for almost two years i’d watch their content regularly
choi minho → my first steps into kpop happened bc i was watching videos on youtube (most probably the harries twins) and suddenly i saw the sherlock mv in my recommended videos so i clicked on it and then 14-year-old me proceeded to fall for minho like an idiot
brooks twins → still youtubers, the brooks twins were 3/5 of the janoskians (jai & luke brooks, beau brooks, daniel sahyounie, & james yammouni), an australian youtube comedy group that was active from 2011-2018 though i was only around from 2012-2014 (when jai brooks was dating ariana grande)
jc caylen → surprise! another youtuber! jc caylen was part of o2l (our2ndlife) a youtube collaboration channel on which each of the 6 members posted videos on a certain day in the week (mondays with connor, tuesdays with ricky, wednesdays with sam, thursdays with jc, fridays with trevi (my 2nd favorite member bc she participated on the x factor), saturdays with ricardo, and then they had surprise sundays every week) and i remember how much joy jc & the others always brought me with their silly videos
misha collins → up next, you might know him as the gay angel that was sent to superhell after confessing his love to the homophobic hunter on supernatural, it’s misha collins! basically misha was a huge source of comfort for me, and i even went around calling myself emmisha for almost two full years (cringe)
henrik holm → he played even bech naesheim in skam and my crush on him reached that level of ridiculousness where i actually tried my hand at learning norwegian (i can only remember how to introduce myself and some curse words i would make a great first impression on him)
MEN 2016 – 2021
min yoongi → okay so my baby steps into kpop happened through shinee’s sherlock, but i only got really invested when yoongi dropped agust d 1 because Holy Fuck y’know??
kim namjoon → oh man i remember thinking namjoon was cute and a very good leader and then BAM he dressed like THAT at the 2016 mma’s and i fell in love. hard
park seojoon → i started liking park seojoon whilst i was watching hwarang (you guessed it, i watched it bc of taehyung), although he wasn’t my favorite character by far, but he was very silly off camera & i liked that (i’m not that into him anymore tho </3)
kim seokjin → OH BOY LET ME TELL U i liked seokjin from the very beginning (i got to know bts in late 2014) and i always liked seeing him perform and be himself and god once i realized i had a crush on him it just hit me like a mf truck, and he’s still one of my favorite people to this day
jung hoseok → god fake love era hoseok really hits different.... also yes i know i have all of bts’ hyung line on my list BUT bts was a really big part of my life for almost 6 years soooo honestly they deserve it i still think they’re great guys
choi san → when ateez made their debut in 2018 i immediately fell in love with san, he was such an amazing dancer and he captivated me right from the very beginning, to this day he’s still my bias in ateez uwu
xiao zhan → AND THEN, OCTOBER OF 2019 HAPPENS AND I WATCH CQL AND... i fall in love with xiao zhan, something i’d never expected would happen bc when i watched cql for the first time i wasn’t as invested in the story, but i really really really liked xiao zhan and one thing led to another and now here i am as a xfx
wang yibo → the thing is, i’ve known yibo since eoeo except i didn’t know cql yibo was uniq yibo (bc i’d forgotten his name) and when i looked it up i can tell you my jaw dropped to the floor bc holy shit????? also he is very silly and i love him loads ok
lee minho → ah, the man who has been my skz bias since 2018, not only is minho my bias i also kin him (there’s a lot of aspects of myself that i see in minho and vice versa) and he’s very comforting to me
bang chan → honestly, it was only a matter of time before i’d fall for bang chan, i knew the moment i got into skz again that i’d start biasing him and, well, here i am, double biasing chan & minho
WOMEN
this list is shorter bc i’ve in general always had less crushes on women than on men??? blame society forcing me into thinking i was straight for a LONG time
ariana grande → remember the 2011 layout of twitter?? where u could not only have an icon and a header, but also a background and ur twitter page was smack in the center of ur screen with the big ugly menu bar at the top??? yeah ariana grande was always my background for my l*rr* st*l*n*s*n layouts
perrie edwards → this was right around the time she was dating zayn & little mix was breaking out into the spotlight, yeah i just really loved her
andrea russett → okay so remember o2l?? andrea russett was kian’s girlfriend for a pretty long time and they always did videos together and i always thought she was super pretty
lily collins → maybe i don’t like clary in tmi all that much but i sure liked the way lily collins looked
alona tal → MY BISEXUAL AWAKENING, it’s only when i saw alona tal in spn that i realized, fuck i might be gay
park jihyo → i discovered twice (my 2nd jype group after day6) through the like ooh-ahh mv and red-haired jihyo really did something to my heart (i just rewatched it and god zombie bang chan is so mf cute)
kim jisoo → when bp made their square two comeback i was immediately smitten for red-haired jisoo in playing with fire, it’s also when i realized she was my bias out of the four members
shin ryujin → the reason that i have blue hair is partially bc of ryujin and her amazing intro in wannabe :D
xuan lu → her portrayal of jiang yanli was SO ON POINT and she’s just such a kindhearted wonderful person wow i want her hand in marriage
lee yoobin → god i’ve known dreamcatcher from back when they were still called minx and ever since i’ve always looked at dami that bit more than the rest, i was also able to see dreamcatcher live in october of 2019 and the whole experience was just so amazing !!
FICTIONAL CHARACTERS
there’s a whole lot more than just these 10 but i wanted to fit the evolution into one (1) slide as best as i could lmao
peter pan → this movie came out in 2003 (?) and he’s honestly the first fictional character i remember ever having a crush on
legolas → i was really doubting between placing haldir or legolas here but i only really got a vague haldir obsession when i was like 14
zuko → LOOK. ZUKO IN ATLA? HOT. ZUKO IN LOK? HOT EVEN IF HE’S AN OLD MAN.
will turner → man was annoying sometimes but i really liked him and his relationship with elizabeth was cute
jo harvelle → gosh i can’t believe she’s the only female character in here???? yeah she was one of my two spn faves and i’ll never forgive the screenwriters for the way they killed her off
castiel → does your fave ever get sent to super hell for being gay? no? well. mine did
kili → fili and kili’s storyline tore my heart out, spit on it, and then laughed straight in my face, KILI WAS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE DWARF
howl → i only watched this movie for the first time in 2020 so i kinda fucked up the tl cause i watched cql in 2019 but shh, anyways howl with his blonde hair was good looking but howl with his black hair just hits differently. i want a howl
lan jingyi → MY BABY BOY, TINIE LITTLE BABIE WHOMST I MUST PROTECT ok no but seriously this kid. i love him a lot
mu qing → BARK BARK. that’s all (that’s not all i love him a whole lot and it hurts me to see so many people misunderstand his character and only see the bad parts of him when they can forgive others for fucking up (eg. xie lian himself & feng xin) but bc mu qing doesn’t deal well with emotions suddenly he’s the bad guy??? i s2g if ppl are gonna do to him what they did to jiang cheng in the tgcf la i will RIOT)

Small Gestures (Fili x reader)
Pairing: Fili x reader
Word Count: 1340
Warnings: anxious reader, fluffy Fili (yes, this is a warning)
A/N: I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s had some anxious days during this whole thing and wanted comfort from fictional characters! If you guys ever need to talk, I’m here for you! I couldn’t help the Princess Bride reference! Also, I know I promised another piece of Part of the Company, but this jumped in my face and demanded to be written, so that's been delayed a little bit. Sorry it’s so short - I can’t seem to write anything close to 2000 words anymore! Gif is not mine!
Happy Fili Friday!!
Fili had a bounce in his step as he headed through Erebor’s torch-lit halls, Thorin’s steps more weary beside him. There had barely had time for Fili to have dinner with his wife before the last of the many meetings that had taken up his entire day. He understood it, of course, as he was Thorin’s heir and had dealt with many such days in the past. It didn’t usually bother him.
Today, however, the prince found himself becoming irritable as the meetings went longer and further over time. Something felt off, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on the meetings served as nothing more than obstacles to figuring it out. In any case, now he was free and looking forward to returning to his beloved Y/N.
Bidding his uncle goodnight, he turned down the hall that split away from the King’s chambers, not seeing his uncle’s fond smile. Thorin had loved Y/N the moment Fili introduced her to the family, patiently nudging the two together when they danced around feelings for each other so long ago.
A bright smile spread across his face as the door to his chambers came into view. He could almost feel his One’s arms around him already and was thankful there was yet time in the day to just enjoy her company.
Quietly, he slipped into their rooms, hoping to see her delighted smile when he managed to surprise her. Excitement morphed into concern when he saw her, for she lay in a crumpled heap on their shared bed, dressed in one of his shirts.
This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. Fili knew that Y/N’s mind fought against her, whispering (and occasionally shouting) to her of fears that, in reality, were mostly far off. She knew it too, but sometimes she was too tired to fight and her mind got the better of her. Those days often ended with her curled up on the bed in the early evening, as she was now.
Fili saw the tear tracks glistening on the side of her face as he sank onto the bed, his arms wrapping around her middle to gently tuck himself around her. She was trembling, though the prince wasn’t sure if it was from her fears and exhaustion or from cold since he could see that the fire had gone out. Against the possibility of cold, he tugged their fur blanket up to cover the two of them.
After a minute, Y/N rolled over in his arms to bury her face against his chest. He undid her braids then, setting the beads aside as his fingers worked over her scalp. If this was what she needed, Fili was more than happy to hold her and trace little patterns across her back, but he could tell that the tension wasn’t fading from her shoulders. And he was concerned by how abnormally cold her skin still felt.
“Let me draw you a bath, love,” Fili murmured in her ear.
“Don’t gooo,” she grumbled quietly against his chest, wiggling even closer. “Cold.”
“I’ll be right back, alright?”
With a final grumble, she relinquished her place in his arms, allowing him to get up. He carefully tucked the blankets around her more tightly before making his way to the washroom. It didn’t take long to fill the large tub the hot water and sprinkle in some salts and lavender oil, and soon he was returning for the dwarrrowdam lying on the bed, gently helping her strip and step into the steaming water. She caught sight of his hair pulled back (except for his frontmost braids, of course), one of her favorite looks on him, and a small smile tugged at her lips.
The drastic temperature change made her flinch initially, but she soon settled in, leaning back against the now-warm stone of the tub. When Fili’s calloused hands started working on her shoulders, she sighed in relief. Gradually, her muscles loosened and he pressed a kiss to her skin before shifting to wash her hair.
“Thank you,” she mumbled, melting into his hands as he leaned her back to rinse the shampoo out. The blond dwarf hummed in response, bending forward enough to kiss her forehead. His braids tickled her face as he pulled back, eliciting a tiny giggle that made his heart soar.
“How do things look, kurduwê?” He broke the silence when he finished with her hair, resting his chin atop her head.
“It’s looking up a little,” she sighed, twisting just enough to kiss his jaw.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Mmmmm, I… not just yet.”
“That’s perfectly alright. I just want you to know I’m here if you do.” It cut at Fili’s heart when she seemed to shrink at that question, and he was quick to reassure her. “I’m going to get the fire going in the room, ok?”
When she nodded tentatively, he pressed a reassuring kiss to her hair before setting off on his quest. She had been doing well lately, these attacks seeming to come less frequently, but the lion prince still knew that she didn’t eat as much as she should on such days.
The kitchen staff was long familiar with his evening visits, barely pausing to greet him politely before returning to their work. He pulled out what he needed to make a simple meal, knowing Y/N wouldn’t want to eat much. One of the cooks set a small tart on the counter by his elbow, and Fili smiled gratefully at her. No matter what Y/N might think some days, Fili could tell that the dwarves of the Mountain adored her, as was evident in this small gesture by the kitchen staff.
He returned quickly, setting the tray down on the bed so he could stoke the fire. Once he deemed it warm enough in the room, he made his way back to his wife. She leaned into his chest as he wrapped her in a towel and his arms, resting her weight against him wearily. He let her stay like that, pulling her with him in shuffling steps back into the main room, never once losing his careful hold on her.
His legs hit the bed first, forcing him to fall backwards onto it. As a consequence, she was pulled with him, a breathless laugh escaping her as she fell atop him. Luckily, neither of them landed on the tray of food.
“What’s this?” she asked when she rolled over and noticed the tray. “Oh, Fili, you really didn’t have to.”
“ I know you don’t eat much when you are troubled. Come, kurduwê, we’ll get you dressed for bed and then,” he helped her sit on the edge of the bed before retrieving her sleep-clothes, “I’ll read while you eat.”
. .
. .
Eventually, the quiet peace of the night and the warmth of Fili’s arms soothed her troubled mind. Of course, it helped when she put words to her racing thoughts, allowing the golden prince to assuage some of her worries. Now, she lay half-asleep on his chest, snuggled under the fur blanket he’d pulled over them.
“Please, keep going? I like listening to you read,” Y/N mumbled when he stopped.
“I thought you’d fallen asleep, ghivashel,” Fili chuckled, tilting his chin down to drop a kiss to her forehead. She hummed in response, her arm tightening around him where she’d thrown it across his middle.
“Thank you, Fee. For all of this. For putting up with me,” Y/N said after a moment.
“Hey, what’ve we said about that?” He was quick to catch the self-loathing thought before it could spiral.
“That you’re not ‘putting up’ with me.”
“That’s right. I love you. And that means that helping you is never a burden to me.”
Fili felt her nod against him before she spoke quietly. “I love you too. Thank you.”
“So are you gonna keep reading now?” He really laughed then, the rumbles shaking through his chest to her.
“As you wish.”
Thanks for reading!!

For the Night
Fili X Fem!Reader
A/N: It’s 2k words long, you cannot escape me and my love for one (1) blond dwarf. I won’t let you. Happy Fili Friday! - Nemo
Summary: Fili starts acting like a love sick fool when he sees the keeper of an inn the Company is contemplating staying at for the night. His attention is only lessened when a small child started attaching itself to the keeper’s leg. But nevertheless, the Company stay the night - which is long enough for Fili to get answers out of the infatuating keeper.

The Company was tired. Tired as hell.
They hadn’t had a safe place to rest for a couple weeks now, and after their stop at Bag-end to get Bilbo, the bar for ‘comfort’ and ‘safe’ just about doubled. Fili could tell everyone wanted to sleep in a bed just once rather than on the ground again. In fact everyone knew that.
The town ahead was promising, seeing as Fili could tell there were people around, and that it still wasn’t too busy.
The reason they hadn’t stopped before was how reluctant other places were to housing so many Dwarves. The Company had yet to find a place that was impartial to Dwarves - for Hobbit’s and Wizards, apparently it was fine - and therefore they’d been sleeping on the road, or on the outskirts of towns.
“Alright, some of us will go into town to try and see if there’s a place to stay, the rest of you will stay here.” Thorin started, turning to the Company as they settled on the side of the road. “Dwalin is with me, Balin can go on his own. Fili, take Kili and go search too - just do not cause trouble.”
“Aye Uncle, we want a warm bed for once as much as everyone else.” Kili started, flinging an arm over Fili’s shoulder. “We’ll be like little angels!”
“Sure you will.” With that Thorin set off, Dwalin in tow while Balin had already started off into town before Thorin had even asked him to. Fili and Kili followed after, babbling to themselves about anything and everything.
----------
“Beat it, shorties!”
That was the second prospective accommodation that they'd been thrown out of.
“People aren’t nice.” Kili said, adjusting his jacket as he glared back at the closed door. “Mahal, all we wanted was a place to stay.”
“We just have to keep trying Kee, don’t worry.”
“You Dwarves lookin’ for a place to stay?” an elderly man said, looking at the brothers from across the street. Fili shared a look with Kili before nodding. “Try up on the north hill. There’s an Inn there run by a Dwarrow. Might have better luck there.”
“Sir, thank you.” Fili said, nodding at the man before heading off to find the Inn.
----------
The place was quaint. Simple. Still homey. Fili loved it.
“It’s so quiet.” Kili said, quietly mumbling to his brother. “Maybe no one lives here and the townsfolk just keep the door unlocked.”
It was true, the Inn was very quiet. There wasn’t even another person there, and there was no noise. The only reason it looked lived in was because of the fire going on their left and the fact that everything was so clean.
“Doubt that.” Fili stepped forward, “Hello?” He called, and almost instantly they got an answer.
“Yes?” A voice said behind them. There in the doorway was the Dwarrowdam, an armful of chopped wood in her arms. “I’m sorry, I hope you haven't been waiting long.”
Fili couldn’t answer. He was in awe. She was beautiful. Sure, he hadn’t seen many Dwarrowdams in his life, he’d mostly just heard descriptions of them. But she surpassed any story description. Just by looking at her he could tell she was his One.
“Fee.” Kili said, elbowing Fili in the ribs, a smirk lathered over his face. Kili knew what happened to Fili, but like hell he’d let an opportunity pass. “The lass asked you a question.”
“Uhm, no. We weren’t waiting long at all!” Fili said, managing to gather his voice back, even if it was a bit high-pitched. She giggled at him, moving away from the doorway and further into the Inn.
“I’m afraid, Sir, that wasn’t my question.”
“Oh, sorry then. Um, what was the question?” Fili asked, following her as she started piling the wood near the fire.
“‘How can I help you?’” She repeated, smiling up at Fili.
His heart stopped.
She’d kill him at this rate.
“We need a place to stay.” he said, surprised at how easily he spoke, but he was sure it didn’t sound as nice as he thought it did. “No other place would take us because we are Dwarves and an older man said to come here because you run this Inn and we’d have a better chance asking for help here.”
“You and, I’m guessing, your brother needs to stay?”
“Yes.” Kili said, finally deciding to save Fili from any further ramblings. “But it’s not just us. There are eleven other Dwarves, and a Hobbit, and a Human.” She nodded, finishing stacking the wood, and stood up while wiping her hands on her apron.
“You’re asking for rooms for fifteen?” They nodded, and she hummed. “Well, I could use the business, but I’m afraid some of you might have to share a little more than a room.”
“That’s okay!” Fili started, “We have our own sleeping packs, so all we’d need is the room to set them up.”
“Then you’re welcome to stay.” she said, “My name’s (y/n).”
“I’m Kili, this is Fili -” Kili started then Fili joined, “-at your service.”
“Do you greet everyone new like that?” she said, letting out a sort of laugh.
“Amad,” a small voice then said, along with it came a small head from what could be a kitchen, “When is dinner?”
----------
“‘Amad’, that’s what the child said to her. She is a mother!” Fili said, and all Kili could do was roll his eyes.
“Fili, you’ve mentioned this at least five times. I’m now asking you to cease and desist.” Thorin said, managing to make his grumbling heard from all the way at the front of the group.
After the brothers had gathered Thorin, Dwalin and Balin, and shared the exciting news of a place to stay, Fili then proceeded to tell the story of the Innkeeper - and her apparent child.
“It’s a disaster Uncle.” Fili said, making his way up to Thorin. “I felt it the moment I saw her, she is my One, but she is obviously with another since she has a child! How could this happen?”
“Have you thought to ask her about it, or are you fixated on the dream of love at first sight and the need to wed her even though you’ve spoken only once?”
“Uncle,” Fili whined, “Don’t be so pessimistic!”
----------
“Amad, why are you cooking so much?”
“Because there are people staying over.”
“Like a sleepover?”
“A bit like that, yes. But they’re paying us to stay here, so we’ll look after them.” (y/n) looked down at the dwarfling at her feet. He was happily helping her and busying himself by dragging out a giant pot from the cupboard, and she was grateful he was so willing to give her a hand.
“You don’t usually make people pay you if you have a sleepover, do you?”
“No, Amrum, you do not.” She laughed, finishing chopping up the last potato. She then took the pot Amram was dragging, and placed it on the stove. She looked back at the boy. “You think you can do one more job for me before dinner?”
“Of course Amad! Anything for dinner.”
“Go fetch a couple more pieces of wood from outside, only two or three.” He nodded, already marching his way out the kitchen. “And don’t overload yourself again!”
“I won’t Amad!”
----------
“Look! There’s the Dwarfling!” Fili said, hitting Thorin’s shoulder and pointing at the boy running back inside the Inn, his arms full of wood.
“We get it, Fili. There is a child.” Thorin said, trudging his way up to the Inn.
The entire Company practically groaned at the warmth that the Inn emitted. They hadn’t even gone inside yet and they were practically melting where they stood.
After mumbling to themselves about how much they liked this already, they made their way inside.
“You made it back.” (y/n) said, coming from the doorway to the kitchen to greet them all. She took a look at everyone, nodding. “All the rooms are upstairs. They’re ready for you. You can take your pick of whichever you’d like.”
They all made their thanks, then teatered off to the rooms. Fili stayed behind, eyeing (y/n) as if he wanted to say something, but she took off after the others, obviously forgetting something.
“Dinner is in half an hour! If you’re late you miss out!” she called up the stairs, and unceremonial cheers came back down at her. She turned back, facing Fili. “Hi.”
“Hey.”
A beat of silence came, a smile creeped on (y/n)’s face, and soon they both let out a laugh.
“Sorry - I just… The child?” Fili said, gesturing around the room. She nodded, walking into the kitchen. Fili took that as a note to follow.
“Amrum, please get off the countertop.” She said, and Fili locked eyes with the child - of which was eating off a plate while sitting on the countertop.
“It’s the Dwarf.” Amram said, starting to climb off the counter, “You came before. You’re here for the sleepover.”
Fili kept looking at the boy, nodding, before looking over at (y/n) - she’d gone to cut some meat. Fili didn’t notice how hungry he was until just now.
“You want some of my bread? I’ve eaten some of it, but I haven’t licked the butter off.” Amrum offered, and it almost pained Fili to decline - his eyes were so wide, and he was very cute and Fili was hungry.
----------
“I can’t believe he likes you that much.” (y/n) said, her voice low and very quiet.
Amrun had fallen asleep on Fili a little over fifteen minutes ago - around the time the others of the Company dispersed to their warm rooms and beds with real pillows - and had yet to wake up. Fili felt his chest both swell and tighten.
Swell because this was a child, one he felt he needed to protect, and tighten because it wasn’t his, and he had a father already. At least Fili thought he did.
“I haven’t seen him like that with anyone besides me since his parents died.”
“What?” Fili said, frowning at (y/n) while slightly tightening his hold around the Dwarfling. “He calls you Amad, aren’t you his mother?” She shook her head.
“No, I’m his Aunt, but he’s only really known me as a mother. He was really young when my brother and sister-in-law died.”
She had started fiddling with the hem of her apron.
“You miss them, don’t you?” Fili said, even though he already knew the answer.
“Yeah,” she breathed, “This place was theirs too. Since they’re been gone it’s just been me and Amrum. It’s not easy.”
“I can imagine. But this lad seems like he behaves.”
“Most of the time.” She laughed, “You should see him when there’s no one around, it’s like he has a twin with how much mischief he gets up to.”
----------
“Will you come back Fee?” Amrum asked, looking up at the blond whose arms he was still being carried in.
(y/n) and Fili shared a look. Last night they had a talk. It wasn’t little, but it wasn’t all-bearing either. It was informative, and it did enlighten (y/n) to why all these Dwarves, a Hobbit and a Human were traveling together.
“How about we wait and see Amrum?” She said, holding out her hand for Amrum to take as Fili set him to the ground. “They all could be away for months yet, we’ll have to be patient.” Amrum looked down, kicking the dirt. He obviously wasn’t looking forward to his new friends leaving.
“Here,” Fili said, pulling out a dagger from his coat, “As a promise. When I get back, you’ll be throwing that with the precision of an eagle hunting it’s meal.” Fili held out the dagger to Amrum.
Amrum looked up at (y/n), she shook her head, but her eyes and the light smile on her lips told them it was okay. The Dwarfling took the dagger, holding it both hands with wide eyes.
“Wow. You’re really letting me keep it?”
“Sure thing kid. Just don’t cut yourself, and look after your Amad.”

A/N: Hey guys, next chapter! I hope you’re doing well. I hope you will like this one. We’re moving forward with the main plot and it’s gonna get long, but I feel like you don’t really mind. Also, I’m going to be working on requests (which I should’ve done quite a while ago). (29. 9., Monday)
I have to study math for an exam we have tomorrow, but lately I just try to study a lot, but my grades aren’t as good as I would like them to, I don’t understand why. I’m trying to study more than I did last year, but it always seems like my friends and schoolmates, who are not studying as much as I do, get better grades, and it feels strongly demotivating and I want to cry after every time I hear the results of the tests (today I lit almost cried, I had a bit hard time to hold tears back, when we got the results of test from the subject I’m always studying the way it works for me. I was stressed a bit, but I knew I studied well and took a lots of time and practise to make sure I know it all and I completely understand it...well...I did got C. A C for so much time spended on that subject and with help from my mom.) This chapter has somewhere from over 1084 words (Kili and Fili talking) taste of my sad mood. So yeah. Comment please what do you think of this chapter. ( 30. 9., Tuesday/Wednesday?)
(This is paragraph has been written a day later than previous A/N btw)
So, hello everybody! I hope you are going to enjoy this chapter. My grades kinda improved, I’m getting a good grades especially from English (obviously), where even the girl who gets good grades in most of other subjects is not that good in English. (I did got F from that math-shit-test as most of the class, so we will be retaking it.). I’ve been working on this chapter for a few days, so it’s pretty long, but I think you don’t really mind. (2. 10. Friday)
This chapter has gotten very, VERY long. I didn’t planned it to be that long, but ideas just kept coming to me. Sorry the chapter didn’t came out two days ago as I planned, but sometimes I was struggling to continue some dialogues and scenes, so I needed to find some prompts ideas to help me out. Hopefully you’ll forgive me. Also, yesterday were me and my brother picking some cones. It was windy and a few metres away from us landed a tree (it was not too thick, actually quite thin, but it scared me a lot). The idea for the apple-picking came to me when I was picking an apples a day after my birthday. Also, a lots of cute gifs. (4.10. Sunday)
btw this is the cake I decorated for my bday.

MASTERLIST

You can message me if you wanna be added to a tag-list.
You got up and decided to clean up the kitchen a bit. You’ve prepared some food earlier and this quiche was the last thing you were planning to bake for today.
During the cleaning, you were thinking about the way they all got here. This was something that was inside of your mind ever since you’ve probably finally found a first clue to what exactly happened that they have appeared here, and why. You’ve decided to talk with Gandalf, Bard, Balin, Thranduil and maybe Thorin, if he wouldn’t be so stubborn, after everyone else would go to bed. You needed them to actually tell you what happened before they appeared here, otherwise you’d missed a part of the puzzle you were trying to solve.
You huffed and wiped off the desk. Your apron was hanging over a chair, but the flour was still in your hair and on your hands. You thought it would be a good idea to take a quick shower before the quiche was baked and cooled down enough to be eaten.
Thorin was with talking with Gandalf in a hallway. If anybody would hear them, they’d rather got off of the dwarf king’s way, not to mention the rage in his eyes, but the wizard was not afraid of him, of course.
„Thorin, you need to tell her where you were before you appeared here. She can be our only hope how to get back to Middle-Earth.“ The dwarf king glared at the wizard, his hands firmly folded on his chest.
„I’ve already told her. We were escaping from Mirkwood, like I said, Gandalf.“ But Gandalf was not stupid. Obviously.
„And?“ Gandalf tilted his head, looking down at Thorin.
„How could she help us? She’s a human, and from what I’ve saw and experienced in past few days, she does not have any magic abilities.“
But Gandalf knew better.
„This remindes me of that evening in Bag-End. You understimated Bilbo, Thorin, and now you are repeating it. What is so unlikable about her?“ Thorin’s gaze fell to the floor and he was silent. After a while, he spoke again.
„It’s not her exactly. It’s her and Kili. If she will get us back to Middle-Earth, like I hope she will,“ He looked at Gandalf for a while and then he looked away again.
„It will break Kili’s heart. I don’t want him to suffer, Gandalf. He is way too young for-“ Gandalf frowned.
„Kili may be young, and she is too, without a doubt...but all the things are coming in a right order, as they should. It may not be exactly in time, but in the right time, they will eventually come. Don’t forget that, Thorin.“ Thorin looked up at the wizard.
„You don’t understand, Gandalf. The way they look at each other and the way they act around each other, she’s Kili’s One, and once we will leave this place, he will suffer. I have promised to Dis and to myself to look after him and Fili. I can’t do this to any of us, it’d have destroyed all of us if we’d know he’s suffering from separation from his soulmate.“ Neither of them noticed a long shadow, whom came to join the conversation.
„It surprises me how much you care for your nephew, Thorin.“ Thorin tensed.
„Thranduil,“ He spat out and glared at the Mirkwood king, whom was looking over your hallway, finding it interesting every time he walked to it. He never seen anything similar before.
„Truly, it surprises me. It seemed as if all you could care about was the gold in Erebor and Lonely Mountain, but perhaps I was wrong.“ Thorin narrowed his eyes.
„What do you want?“ Thranduil looked down at him, calmly.
„I’m just saying, if she’s your nephew’s One, you shouldn’t act this way towards her.“ Thorin deeply frowned.
„Why are you telling this to me? It’s none of your business.“ Thanduil softly touched frame of an old small mirror, hanging on the wall. It reminded him of those in Middle-Earth, even if in reality it was a mirror you found in a vintage store.
„Isn’t it clear? If she is his One, he won’t leave without her. He would insist on staying here with her, if it would not be possible for her to go with us, well, with him to Middle-Earth. As far as I know, dwarves are far too stubborn to listen to others.“ Thorin opened his mouth to argue, but, even if he hated to admit that, he knew that there was something about it that he knew was right. Kili loved his family deeply, but a relationship with his One was something different.
When Thorin stayed quiet, soft scoff escaped to Thranduil.
„You know it’s true, don’t you?“
„Why are you telling me this?“ Thranduil sighed.
„Because I know how does the loss of soulmate feels like, and this girl is very likable, I have to admit. She’s like a daughter to me.“ Thorin noticed something behind Thranduil’s icy glare. It was quickly gone, but he noticed it.
„She remindes you of your wife,“ He said. Thanduil shot him a glare, but this time, he turned his back to him rather than argued.
„She remindes you of your wife and if you would have a daughter, it could have been someone like her,“ he said.
„So that’s why you care,“ Thorin continued. Thranduil didn’t let any emotion to show on his face, as he turned back to him and Gandalf.
„But why her? Why did it had to be her?“ Thorin looked at Gandalf.
„You will find out, Thorin.“
Oh, great. Another riddle, as if there wouldn’t be enough of them to solve already, thought Thorin to himself.
After you‘ve cleaned the kitchen a bit, you went to take a quick shower. You went as quickly as possible through the living room, so you didn’t have to talk to anyone. You thought that the almost-kiss between you and Kili have made things highly awkward and unsure, and when both of you were avoiding each other’s gaze, you thought you were perhaps right.
When the door closed and Fili heard your steps futher and futher away, he looked at his younger brother. Kili was refusing to look up so he wouldn’t meet your gaze.
„What happened, Kee?“ He nudged him.
„Did I interrupted somethin‘ earlier?“ He asked. Kili sighed.
„I almost kissed her,“ He mumbled. Fili’s eyes widened.
„You did what?!“
„I almost kissed her, Fee, but then you walked in and-“ Fili blinked a few times, still not being sure if he heard correctly. Kili’s voice got more quiet, telling his brother a thing he didn’t wanted anybody to tell Thorin, because he seemed to dislike Y/N. Quite a lot.
„I really like her. She’s very kind, nice, clever, pretty-“ He started listing things he liked about you with dreamy eyes. Fili looked around.
„Alright, I got it, Kee. But why don’t you just tell her?“
Kili didn’t told this to Fili, but once, when you were showing him how does phone works (not that he remembered much, he was more confused, but it was fun regardless), he’ve seen some photos of a guy, when you tapped on a different button, but you have quickly clicked to a different app and he didn’t had your phone in his hands since then. He didn’t knew who it was, but he thought it was probably somebody you were courting.
„I think-I think she’s taken, Fee. How could she not? I mean, look at her-“ Fili looked at Kili and Kili shook his head, but before he could open his mouth, his brother stormed out to find you. Obviously, Kili runned after him, shouting his brother‘s name.
You got out of a bathroom with our hair wet and in sweat-pants and oversized t-shirt, noticing Fili and Kili (you could not miss them anyways).
„Y/N!“
„Fili!“
„What’s going on, guys? What happened?“ You asked concerned. Fili shook his head.
„No, nothing happened! Well, we were wondering, if you are courting someone-“ You looked at them two, a bit amused. You placed your hands on your hips.
„Oh so this is what’s happening. Well,“ You looked at both of them with a dramatic pause.
„I’m not.“
„But what about that male in your phone?“ Kili asked and you remembered you accidentally tapped to your phone gallery.
„It was just a picture from the internet that I used for a character from book. I do use pictures for my reading journal, so it’s more aesthetically pleasing.“ You noticed the way Kili’s head lifted up and his typical cheeky grin found a way back on his face and winked at you. You looked away, blushing, and Fili cleared his throat.
„I will, uh, go back to reading. Don’t be too loud though-“ Kili was immediatelly running after him, whilst Fili was laughing and you chuckled and went after them. You’ve overheard some pieces of their converstaion.
„...don’t haunt for me, I’m your older brother...“
„...that’s why I’m doing it...“
„...IT WILL FALL DOWN!!“ You’ve heard a noise of breaking glass and quickly made your way to the kitchen.
They broke a few glasses you’ve left there. You sighed, not being surprised anymore.
„Are you okay? KILI-!“ You raised your voice when he tried to tidy the glass, but cutted himself accidentally. You shook your head and headed to one of the kitchen cabinets for take out a desinfection, tweezer and a bandage and a few other things. Of course, it would be best if you could get him to a doctor, but he wasn’t supposed to even be in this world.
„Sit down, Kee, I’ll look for some pieces of glass that could be there.“
Oh, how Kili wanted to assure you he accidentally cutted himself many times before by broken glass and used to have much worse injuries! But he also wanted to enjoy your attention only towards him for second time that evening.
You sat down to him and took his hand into your palms. You were touching it softly, not putting too much pressure on it, if there would be any pieces of a broken glass.
There was not too much blood, so when you were done and sure there were no pieces of a glass, you putted some desinfection on a cotton pad and started carefully cleaning it. You were sitting in a silence and you wanted to ask so many questions about life in Middle-Earth and Kili’s life before the quest in general, but you weren’t sure if he’d wanted to tell you about it, and if yes, where should you start.
„So, uhm, I see you and Fili are quite troublemakers, aren’t you?“ You asked with your gaze settled on his palm.
„We aren’t!“ You looked up on him with slightly rised eyebrow.
„Oh, alright, we are. A bit.“ You smirked at him.
„Only a bit?“
„Maybe a little more,“ he winked at you. You started putting the bandage over the cut.
„Oh, so that’s why you’re always breaking my mugs and glasses.“ You finished bandaging.
„It was an accident!“ Kili exclaimed and threw his hands up to air, but he didn’t realized he slapped you to face by accident. You let out an ‚ow,‘ and he looked at you concerned.
„I’m so sorry Y/N-“
„It’s okay, Kili, it was an accident,“ you said. He shook his head.
„No, I mean it! Dwarves are stronger than humans, and I didn’t and don’t want to hurt you in any way,“ He said, cupping your face in his palms and looking over your jaw and cheek.
„I’m really okay, Kili. I know you wouldn’t do this on a purpose,“ You said quietly, feeling his closeness. He looked in your eyes, then on your lips and back to your eyes, as if asking for permission. You did the same thing and cupped his face, feeling the scruff on your palms, and when your eyes locked, you looked back to each other’s lips and slowly closed the gap.
At first, your kisses were slow, a bit clumsy and at some point even awkward, but also careful, as if trying to figure out what to do next – you could tell that neither of you had been kissing a lot before – but it was sweet nonetheless. His lips were warm and you felt his scruff on your cheeks. You giggled and broke the kiss for a moment.
„Your beard is tickling me,“ You whispered and kissed him again, before he could start to say it was no real beard. You will tell him about this later. You wanted him to know you found him attractive and he had nothing to be ashamed of, especially his lack of beard.
You placed your arms around his neck to pull him closer, his hands found their way to your back and pulled you closer, too, so you were sitting on his lap now. Your kisses were more hungry now, with more passion in them, as if you’d never wanted to let each other go. His hands in your hair and your hands in his hair, to keep you even closer, if that was even possible.
When you pulled away and gasped for air, Kili let his forehead let his to rest against yours. You closed your eyes.
„I-love you,“ you let out a breath.
„I love you too, amrâlimê,“ he said and kissed you again, but you smelled a strange smell and furrowed your brows. Actually, it was not that strange smell. You quickly pulled away and jumped on your feet.
„I didn’t turned off the oven!“
„But you turned me on,“ Kili winked at you and looked how your face got stained with soft pink, as you were putting the quiche out of the over and turning it off. You placed it on the cook and looked back at him.
„Oh, so that’s why you’re so hot.“ You said faster than you thought and embarrassed looked away, hearing him to chuckle.
„That was a good one, amrâlimê!“ He said and you sleepishly looked back at him.
„Now,“ Kili smirked as you were tidying up the desinfection, cotton pads and other stuff.
„I think I’d be nice to continue in our earlier activity, amrâlimê,“ he said and winked at you. You smirked.
„I think it would be indeed very nice, Kee, but now we have to prepare the dinner, because I don’t wanna make your uncle even more angry,“ You said half joking. Kili shook his head and furrowed brows.
„It’s okay, I mean, Thorin hated Bilbo in the beginning, but now he would protect the hobbit with his life...he will grow to like you, amrâlimê, I promise you.“ He had his puppy eyes again, as if you could not believe him.
„And I truly mean it, I love you.“ He said and you felt a blissfull feeling along with a lots of butterflies in your stomach while he told you those three words. He loved you. He truly did. And you loved him too.
„I love you too, Kili.“ You said, and in a few seconds, you were kissing again. He pulled you to his lap and you run your hands through his hair, slightely pulling it when he started kissing you on your jaw and neck, to help you to keep quiet. You closed your eyes and let yourself enjoy that moment of closeness, warmth and only you two. When you got impatient, you kissed his lips again.
When you pulled away and gasped to get some air, you noticed Kili smirking at you. You blushed and hid your face to crook of his neck.
„Stop it,“ you murmed and he kissed your hair and hugged.
„What, I can’t even look at the woman I love?“ He said dramatically and acted offended. You giggled.
„You know what I mean. I’m blushing.“
„Blush looks good on you.“
„No, it does not!“ You looked up on him with narrowed gaze and playful lights in your eyes.
„Oh, it does, princess.“ You froze and looked up on him.
„Well, if we are going to be courting, then...I mean, you’re a prince, and I’m not from a royal family...I don’t know how to act as a princess...“ You started stumbling over your words. Kili gently kissed your forehead.
„I don’t care. I love you, Y/N. Don’t worry about it, we can solve that later,“ He kissed your temple. It was such a nice moment.
You jumped up when a knock on a door cought yours and Kili‘s attention. You quickly fixed your hair and clothes and opened the door.
„Oh, Bilbo! I, uh, I just was about to call you for the dinner-“ The hobbit looked relieved.
„Uh, that’s great! I mean, I don’t want to be rude or anything, I would‘ve help you out of course-“ You smiled at him.
„You’re not being rude, Bilbo, don’t worry,“ You quickly checked Kili and found out he was nowhere to see. You furrowed your brows and stepped out of the door so Bilbo could come in.
„Kili? C’mon, it is not time to play hide and s-EEK!“ You screamed when he hugged you from the back.
„You idiot, do you know how did you scared me?!“ You tried to get out of his arms while he was laughing.
„Oh, c’mon princess, you don’t mind.“ You rolled your eyes.
„You are far more graceful and quiet on your feet than I thought. I should be concerned. I don’t want to get scared again when you will jump on me again,“ He chuckled, kissed your cheek and let go of you, because Bilbo started looking quite uncomfortable.
The dinner was not that bad, even if you could sense that something was going on with Thorin, Thranduil and Gandalf. They were way too quiet (not that they usually weren’t, but Thranduil didn’t even talked to Legolas), and Thorin didn’t paid attention to his nephews (he usually told them to stop doing something that was too much, but now he seemed to be lost in his thoughts).
When the dinner was over, Bilbo insisted on washing the dishes, explaining he just wanted to do something like that to feel a bit closer to home (quietly, obviously. He didn’t wanted anyone to have fun from him.).
Meanwhile, you looked through your library, and when you found what you were looking for, you pulled it out and started flipping through the pages.
It was a book about constellations, stars and planets. When you didn’t found what you were looking for, you shook your head and placed the book back. When this repeated a few times, you got back to another source you’ve had – the internet.
You were sitting there for a long time, but at least it gave you some understanding and it was more and more fitting to your theory. But why them, why each one of them...there must be a reason... you thought.
You went to sleep around two in the morning and fell to the bed. Your dreams were full of moon phases, Kili’s puppy eyes and smile and your stolen kisses.
You woke up and felt a smell of something sweet. You furrowed your brows. Who is cooking? You thought. You got up and made your way to the kitchen.
The closer you were, the more you recognized.
„...she said she likes cinammon...“
„Well, I think she once said she prefers maple syrup...“
„...of course not, she loves chocolate!“ You slightely blushed. It was Kili, obviously, and the way he said it could be understood only by you and him. You adored his eyes, which he obviously noticed.
„...Thorin, don’t stand here, I need to be walking there! Just go and sit down!“ That was Bilbo, getting very angry for a hobbit.
„You are not helping!“ He said to someone else and you chuckled. Oh yeah, Bilbo was a great cook, and though he found your kitchen interesting, to say at least, he was a quick learner. And, obviously, the best cook out of them all.
„Good morning, Y/N,“ You’ve noticed Bard. You nodded at him and yawned.
„Uh-good morning, Bard,“ You yawned once again.
„What are they doing in the kitchen?“ You asked.
„That’s a surprise.“
„I can hear them all the way here.“ You both chuckled.
„Well, what time is it?“ You asked, wanting to know how long did you slept.
„It’s going to be ten in the morning.“ He told you and you noticed a bit of his fatherly tone in it.
„Time for breakfast,“ You said and went straight to the kitchen, feeling the delicious smell of pancakes floating in the air. You tip-toed to the kitchen and carefully looked into the slightly opened door.
Bilbo was the main cook, as everyone could say. He was making sure that anybody ate the prettiest pancakes. Then there was Fili and Kili, arguing over your favourite filling. Balin was looking over them along with Gandalf, as they were discussing something and sitting in the corner. Thranduil and Legolas were watching them, but also engaged in their own discussion. Thorin was watching over the kitchen, making sure Kili and Fili weren’t breaking anything. And Dwalin, well, he stood near Gandalf and his brother, visibly not happy with what they were talking about.
You pushed the door open and stepped in, yawning. You were pretty hungry and needed to eat something.
„Good morning, everyone.“ Most of them looked at you with wide eyes, as if coming too early and ruining a surprise for you, yourself.
„G-good morning, miss Y/N,“ you’ve heard Bilbo to mutter, and some other ‚good morning’s‘ from others.
„Are these pancakes?“ You stepped closer and looked over the hobbit. Bilbo was certainly not four feet tall, he was around a foot, foot and a half shorter than Thorin.
It were pancakes. Obviously.
„You did all of this?“ You looked over the kitchen, where some sweet pasteries were and Fili and Kili, whom were arguing over your favourite pancake filling earlier, having a chocolate, maple syrup, a pack of cinammon, some bananas and apples and a few other items lying around the table.
„Yes, we-we did. We want to thank you for your kidness and how you are helping us to find our way back home,“ Said Bilbo.
„You’re always the one to cook, so we decided to cook something for you as well,“ Bard piped up from the doorway.
„But as you can see, we are not really a cooks,“ Fili piped up and nudged his brother. Bilbo shot him a glare and you giggled, causing Thoin’s eyes to soften for a second, which you didn’t noticed.
„It’s pretty kind from you anyways,“ You looked over them with a proud smile.
After your breakfast, which you took to a corner to living room (the’d all stare at you and you didn’t liked that), you’ve decided to go apple picking with them to your backyard. You prepared some baskets and jackets and hoodies, because it was quite cold and windy outside.
After you’ve changed from your pyjamas, you told them you were going to be picking the apples and just in general to go out to your backyard.
It was quite a nice idea.
Until you told them to put on the jackets, because it was cold and windy outside.
„It cannot be here more cold than in Blue Mountains,“ said Kili, seeming absolutely sure. You raised your eyebrow and shrugged your shoulders.
„If you think so,“ you said and made your way out.
You looked around and decided to go to the shortest tree. You noticed Bilbo coming shortly after you.
„Were you picking apples during autumn in Shire too, Bilbo?“ He smiled a little.
„Oh yeah, it was a nice thing to do, through it took a while.“ He looked up at you and you pointed towards the shortest tree.
„I think we can start with this one, most of the apples are pretty much close to the ground, so we don’t have to climb up on the tree-“
„I bet I’ll climb up faster, Fili!“
„Are you sure you wanna bet?“ You and Bilbo turned around and noticed Fili and Kili standing beneath the tallest apple tree that was at your backyard. You frowned.
But before you could say anything, both of them were already climbing up the tree. You were sure they were climbing up trees before, but still, it made you feel anxious.
„I won!“ You’ve heard Kili’s voice, full of pride, and you chuckled.
„That’s great, so now come down, you two!“ You said, walking into that direction already.
You stood under the tree, looking up, younr hands resting on your hips. Soon, they appeared between the branches. You’ve seen Kili’s happy face, through Fili said.
„If I wouldn’t slipped up, I’d won,“ but he didn’t seemed to be that mad at his brother. Kili jumped down and cheekily smiled at you.
„Oh, here’s my beautiful princess.“ He came to you and kissed your cheek. When he noticed your pouting face, he smirked.
„Someone’s mad, as I can see.“ You narrowed your eyes. His brown eyes widened.
„But I won!“ You sighed and looked into his puppy eyes.
„I’m not doubting that, Kee.“ You looked up.
„You were climbing up trees a lot in Middle-Earth, I guess.“ The brothers grinned.
„Oh, of course we did! You should’ve seen Uncle’s face when Kili fell from one tree when he was little and broke his leg for the first time.“ Fili said and both him and Kili remembered that memory. You pointed to tree where Bilbo was meanwhile picking apples.
„I’d rather not seen his face if something would happened to you now. Anyways, I’ll be over there and picking apples with Bilbo.“ You went to join the hobbit again.
You didn’t noticed the way Fili smirked at his brother, when you were out of earshot.
„So you and Y/N, aye?“ Kili’s eyes widened, but he quickly looked away.
„I don’t know what are you talking about, Fee.“
„Oh, so you don’t know? You are always checking her out, don’t you think I didn’t noticed that.“ Kili’s ears reddened and Fili laughed.
„Alright, we’re courting!“ Fili stopped, looked at his brother, then at you, talking to Bilbo, and started laughing again. Kili furrowed his brows.
„You aren’t supposed to laugh!“ When his older brother didn’t stopped, Kili murmed to himself.
„I’m embarrassed,“ Fili stopped laughing to catch a breath.
„I knew it, I knew you two will end up together! Oh, I won, I can’t believe that!“ Kili’s eyes widened.
„You-you made a bet? With who?!“ Fili smirked.
„There’s a few of them. Now let’s go,“ He said. Kili’s jaw fell.
„Wait what? Who-? How-? When-?“
But Fili was already walking towards you and Bilbo to medium-height tree. Kili did a pouting face and decided to join you.
„What’s the matter?“ Kili walked from the back to you and threw one arm around your shoulders and the other one around Fili’s shoulders.
„I will climb up the tree and pick the apples here, but I need someone to put the baskets down. And to make sure I won’t fall down,“ You said.
„Oh, don’t worry, princess, I will make sure that if you fall, you’ll have a soft landing.“ He winked at you and you felt heat raising to your cheeks. Bilbo cleared his throat.
„I-uh-I’ll go and pick some apples where I can reach,“
You climbed up the tree with an empty basket on your forearm and looked around. You placed the basket between some branches, so it was secure, and started carefully reaching for the apples. Kili, Fili or Bilbo would occasionally tell you where you should step, so you wouldn’t fell down.
„More to the left, lass,“ Fili.
„You’re almost there!“ Bilbo.
And so on.
You were almost done, when one of your feet mistaken a free spot between branches for a branch and you were already falling down.
You fell down on something-well, someone-soft. You’ve heard Kili‘s groaning underneath you.
„Are you okay?“ You asked Kili.
„I’m totally alright, told ya you’ll have a soft landing,“ he grinned at you and you playfully rolled your eyes and gave him a peck on lips. He rolled you over, so now he was on top of you, and started kissing your whole face. You were laughing.
„Kili, we need to finish this before it’ll be dark.“
„Hmm, tomorrow is a day too,“ He argued and you took all the strength you had and rolled him over, so you were on top.
You stood up and noticed Bilbo’s jaw hanging open. Fili looked more...well, he seemed to be pretty proud.

Into The Water (Fili x Reader)
Warnings: Mild swearing, a small amount of angst? Fluff, maybe?
Pairing: Fili x Fem!Reader
Summary: Reader is feeling down, Fili finds a way to cheer her up. Thorin isn’t so happy with the outcome.
Happy Fili Friday :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“We will rest here for tonight.” Thorin’s demanding voice echoed through the company. I almosted let out a sigh of relief but I caught myself before it slipped past my lips. I loved being in the company, but sometimes I just wanted a soft bed to fall into and to sleep throught the whole day, to forget about the quest.
I went over to the place that would be our camp and set my things down, I myself plopped down next to my bag with a thud. I didn’t get much sleep the night before, so this day had tooken a lot out of me, more than normal. That train of thought had upset me, because somehow even when all I did was travel on horse back all day, I seemed to feel exhausted no matter how easy the day was. Perhaps it was due to the fact I haven’t travelled much in my life.
I got up as soon as I sat down, I wanted to help around the camp. Surely Thorin would get grouchy if I sat on my ass and did nothing.
“I’m going to get fire wood.” I called out to let everyone know where I was headed, also so that they knew they didn’t need to get it themselves. I walked into the woods just right of the camp. I looked around to find the best peices I could, collecting them in my arms as I walked further and further into the trees.
I started to think about the journey I’ve had. What happens after Erebor is taken back? Do I just... go home? Where was home, really? I went on this journey for a reason, not just to help the dwarves get their home back, but also because I wanted the adventure. I wanted to go and see the world, maybe find a real place I could call home without the sour taste that would linger. These people within the company... they made me feel safe... happy. I didn’t really want this journey to end, because I feared I would lose the safe feeling. If they let me stay within Erebor, would it still bring me happiness? Would the dwarves exept me? Tears brimmed in my eyes as I thought more about it, I didn’t want to lose my new family.
I heard a foot fall onto the ground really close to my left, I let out a small squack and dropped my pile of wood. I whipped around and pulled out my dagger. I got in a fighting stance quickly, ready to fight the intruder.
“Easy now, lass!” Fili stepped back and put his hands up, he glanced at my dagger then to my face. My shoulders relaxed when I realized it was a friend, not a foe. I put my dagger back on my hip, the tear that was welling in my eye fell but I whiped it away.
“By the Gods, Fili! Don’t scare me like that.” I let out a frustrated sigh and looked away from him. He really caught me at a bad time, didn’t he?
“My apologies, Y/N. I would have thought you heard me coming, what’s the matter lass?” His soft voice rang through my ears. I wanted to tell him about my worries, but it felt selfish. My silly troubles where nothing compaired to those of the company.
“I was just thinking too much, nothing to worry about.” I said simply. His brows furrowed, clearly he didn’t believe me. He looked like he was debating his next words. His eyes suddenly lit up.
“Well, I know just the thing to cheer you up! I know you ar-” He was cut off by the sound of my voice.
“Fi, I really don’t need cheering up. It’s only something small, you don’t need to go out of your way to help me.” I tried to dismiss him.
“Nonsense! No matter how small, I will help. Now you have the option to talk about it or you can have me cheer you up my way.” Fili sent a wink my way and my mouth droppped open for a moment, but I quickly closed it. I raised my brow and gave him a sly look.
“And what would ‘Your way’ be?” I asked in a playful voice.
“You’ll have to find out, but that’s only if you choose my option.” He stated as a matter-of-fact-ly, he himself had a smile of his face. I tapped my chin in a thinking manner.
“Fine, I’ll play your little game. I choose your option.” I said. Fili’s smile turned into a wicked grin, his eyes glown in the setting sunlight. I started to doubt my decision for a moment. All of the sudden Fili picked me up and thrown me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes then started to walk to who knows where. I squeaked and punched his back in a playful manner.
“Put me down, Fi!” I yelled at him, though I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Nah-ah-ah, you agreed to this darling. No going back now.” He stated. Fili started to walk faster into a light jog.
“Fili, where in Middle Earth are you taking me?” I laughed out.
“You’ll see, amrâlimê” He spoke.
“Amra-what now?” I asked. Fili knew I knew damn near no dwarvish, so why..? Is he insulting me?
“Wait, did you just insult me?” I asked. Fili simply laughed at me, then he set me down. My brows furrowed, I looked up at Fili with a questioning look. He gestured behind me and I looked in that direction. We where at the edge of a slow moving river, about 22 feet wide.
“Oh, I didn’t realize we have a river near by.” I stated. I continued to look around until Fili took a step towards me, which caused me to take a step back. My foot went straight into the water.
“Hey! Fi-”
He took another step towards me and set his hands on my waist, then pushed me back a little more. I was even further into the water.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I asked. Fili simply smiled at me, he kicked his shoes off, then his socks.
“Take your shoes off, unless you want them wet - well, more wet then they are.” He said, he then had the audacity to let a chuckle pass his lips.
“I’m not going any further into this water - Fili!” I yelled as he took another step, putting me a inch more in the water.
“Okay! Okay!” I quickly took my shoes off to prevent them from getting even more wet, my socks right with them. “I hate you...” I whispered. He let out a hearty laugh.
“You lose your mind without me.” He said, then he started to fully walk in the water, taking me right with him.
“Ughh, Fili why?” I asked.
“It never hurts to have a little fun” He answered.
“I don’t have any other clothes.” I stated.
“You can borrow some of mine.”
“As if they would fit me.” I grumbled. We where now waist deep in the river and going deeper. As soon as the water hit over my chest Fili grabbed my thighs and lifted me up, I gasped and wrapped my legs around his torso instinctively. I stayed quiet for a moment.
“You drive me mad.” I said quietly, I didn’t expect him to hear me.
“In a good way, I hope.” He nearly growled, and unfortunatly for me, that turned me on. It didn’t help that my legs where wrapped around him.
“Fi...” I paused for a moment. “Maybe it is in a good way.” I said even quieter than last time. I could nearly hear his smirk.
“Ugh” I let out a groan, then pushed away from him. I quickly went underwater and swam away. I came back up quite a few feet away from him, a gave him a shit-eating grin then splashed him with as much water as I could.
“Two can play that game.” Fili started to swim towards me, with a large grin of his own. My eyes opened wide and I let out a yelp and swam away as fast as I could manage. Unlucky for me, Fili was a much better swimmer than me, and a faster one at that.
“No!” I yelled when his arms wrapped around my waist, a small laugh escaped my lips. He dunked me underwater the brought me back up. Fili spun me around to face him, his eyes shown beautifully in the dusk light. It made my heart skip a beat, and I started to get lost in his eyes. I naturally leaned in a bit, and a light smile graced Fili’s lips.
“What in Mahal’s name do you two think you are doing?”
I jump at the thundering voice I heard from the shore, but Fili kept his hold on me. We both quickly looked over to find the owner of said voice. And that was non other than Thorin Oakinshield. Kili was right beside Thorin with a wide smile on his face.
“You have been gone for nearly an hour, for only fire wood. When we go to investigate we find that you two are just fooling around?” Thorin spoke once again.
“Sorry Uncle, we where just-” Fili was cut off by Thorin
“I don’t want to hear it. Get back to camp.” Thorin stated then walked away. Kili didn’t miss the small smile that formed on Thorin’s lips when he turned around though.
“Brother, next time you go off with a girl. Let us know.” Kili said, he still had that smile of his face. Kili turned to walk away as well.
“It’s not like that!” Fili yelled back, but he had a smile of his face too. Kili simply kept walking, but glanced back and smiled again.
After a moment of Fili still holding me, we looked to each other. We bursted out laughing and I put my head in the crook of his neck.
“Thorin is totally going to kill us.”
