Fellow Medical Whump Lover! Thoughts on field medicine?
first of all ty for the ask!! :D
second of all while i am pretty confident in my english skills, my whole medical knowledge is german lol so i’m not even 100% sure what field medicine is and google isn’t helping that much, so. i’m assuming it’s the same as battlefield medicine? that’s the only thing that came up on google- if not, please correct me asdgjkgdhjf
so. battlefield medicine. yes!! yes. i’m not really one for historical fiction (and frankly, my personal biggest interest in medicine is definitely of the scientific type—mostly forensic medicine, actually) but in a modern setting? hell yes.
a caretaker who works as field surgeon/similar, and a whumpee who’s fighting in the army they’re caring for? yes. caretaker being forced to help others before whumpee because their injuries are greater? yes yes. caretaker forced to let whumpee die because their injuries are too great to be treated in their setting, and having to care for others instead? yes yes yes.
caretaker working in battlefield medicine with whumpee working in the army they care for is a great combination. very much especially if they’re close, and have known each other for years. though it’s also fun if they get to know each other because of whumpee landing in their care... multiple times.....
conclusion: yes <3
#i actually vaguely know an ex field surgeon#he ended up having to stop working bc of the trauma from working as a field surgeon...#i know. one story he’s told me abt why it’s so traumatising#it’s pretty extreme but honestly what do you expect from war#but yeah it’s all he’s ever told me and while i’d be v interested in more i don’t blame him for not wanting to tell me more#so that one story is all real life stuff ik abt field medicine atm. but i’d def read more abt it#it’s a pretty interesting field of medicine to me asgjgfjsh. i’d like to maybe work in forensic medicine one day and the unusual deaths+#that interest me most are certainly the violent ones so being interested in violent (non-death too) injuries is kinda a given lol#divine asks. ` ⛓
