“You’ve become so distracted.”

Caitlyn sits at dinner with her mother and father, picking at the remaining bits and pieces of her meal.

“Pardon?”

“Is it the Vi girl?”

“I don’t know what you’re asking, mother.”

Tobias shakes his head, standing up to gather their used dishes. “It’s simply that you seem to be in your own world as of recent. More so than usual.”

The mixing of their questions set Caitlyn at the edge of her seat.

Caitlyn in her own world and Vi’s what’s there.

Caitlyn remains silent, not knowing how to just say ‘no, I haven’t’ or ‘sorry’ or ‘I’ll try not to’ because every single one of those statements would be a lie.

“It’s just that there’s no time to be daydreaming, Caitlyn. Especially about someone like her. You will be out of school in no time.”

Caitlyn almost sighs in relief. Prior to this, Cassandra only gave looks and off comments. Asking if Caitlyn was going out again and with who (as if the answer wasn’t the same every time now that Jayce has gotten so busy). Shaking her head disappointedly whenever she gives her the answer she doesn’t want.

Tobias is already leaving the room and Caitlyn follows, not needing the hear the rest when she’s heard it so many times about others she’s fancied before. Vi doesn’t deserve that.

Caitlyn and Vi both find themselves laying in bed again, no longer side by side but on each other’s minds anyway.

The strong magnetic force between them that is so prevalent even when they’re in two different cities, a bridge and a river and their running minds separating them, pushing them farther and farther apart.

Caitlyn spins the gun on her finger idly, the smooth motion of pushing and stopping and pushing and stopping not doing much to ease the tension on her heart.

She can’t help but wonder what Vi would say if she saw her doing this.

Probably something crass about how dangerous it is and how irresponsible Caitlyn is, even if the safety is on.

She’d worry, but she wouldn’t stop Caitlyn from fidgeting, gradually becoming more and more at ease as time passes and the only noise filling the space around them is their rambling and the whistling of the wind flowing in from the open window.

She’d eventually have to head back home as the sun set and she’s reminded of the family and sister she needs to take care of, drifting away at the memory of them, and Caitlyn would wave with a smile no matter how much she wanted to beg Vi to stay just a little longer.

Vi would want to say yes. Vi wants to say yes to Caitlyn every day at every minute at every second, even to the most dangerous questions.

Even as they’re apart, Vi wonders what’s on Caitlyn’s mind just so she can say yes to it, even if she wasn’t asking anything.

If it wasn’t so late and Vi didn’t have shit to do in the morning, she’d be in the gym, beating up a bag until the word ‘yes’ wasn’t even on her mind.

But it would take infinitely longer to have the name ‘Caitlyn’ taken off of it as well.

She doesn’t even know if she wants it off of her mind in the first place.

If Caitlyn were here, she’d fill the silence and make Vi forget anything and everything that was worrying her in that moment.

Maybe she’d even play with Vi’s hand and trace all the marks that adorned it, sending those tingles all through Vi’s body.

Vi hates how desperate she is for them.

She just wishes those tingles were as fake as she and Caitlyn were.
