Smile Again Part 1
Tumblr media
Note: This is part one of my new Hotch series!!!! There is a whole lot of just back story in this one and setting the scene! More cuteness to come! A lot of slow burn fluff and some hurt comfort not really full blown angst!
X female reader
Summary: JJ’s cousin Y/N has been through a lot in her 37 years of life. She’s moved to Virginia to start to move on with her life, until meeting Aaron Hotchner throws a wrench in her plans in the best way.
Masterlist ——— Series masterlist
———————-
Y/N Y/L/N had just moved to Virginia to be closer to her best friend and cousin, Jennifer Jareau. If she were being honest this isn't how she'd imagined her life at 37 would be when she was younger. If you asked her then she'd have told you that she saw herself married with kid number 2 or 3 on the way, not a widow running from her past. Life has its own ideas for the way our lives will go though doesn't it. Y/N had a few things on her side however, she had her dream job as a translator for a publishing company where she worked remotely. She also had a loving, if not overbearing family to lean on, and lean she did. For the past three years Y/N was living and helping out on her parent's farm in Pennsylvania. She recently decided it was time to move to be closer to JJ, and the publishing company she worked for. She loved all the help and support her family gave her but she also needed to start over fresh and she knew that meant moving on physically as well. It wouldn't hurt to also get away from her family treating her like glass and closer to her cousin that, while just as overbearing at times, knew she was capable of more than grieving the death of her husband, and her hopes for the future.
She knew after the first week of living in Virginia near JJ that she made the right move, she finally started to feel like a human again. Y/N loved living in an apartment not far from her favorite cousin and her family. She especially loved that she now got to watch and hang out with her favorite little kids, Henry and Micheal, whenever JJ and Will both had to work. That morning Y/N was woken up at 4:30 in the morning to the ring tone she saved for JJ, Spice World, at top volume.
"Ugh, I never thought I'd say this but it's too early for spice girls." she grunted as she picked up the phone.
JJ chuckled and said "Sorry my dear. Wil is away for training and we just got a case that they need me on do you think..."
"I'm on my way" Y/N cut her off "I'll stop for coffee and bagels"
"You're my favorite person," she says.
Y/N rushed to get ready and grab her go bag. She learned quickly to keep one after she moved to Virginia and picked up more munchkin sitting duties, as she calls them. She headed to JJ’s favorite coffee shop, which was quickly becoming hers too. She arrived at the Jereau-Lemontague house quickly and was getting settled in on the couch when she heard JJ’s phone ring.
“Jayje, a handsome man named Hotch is calling” she whisper-yelled into the kitchen looking at the photo icon of Hotch on her cousin’s screen.
“That’d be my boss, He’s single by the way” she winked as she took the phone.
“Shut up” Y/N replied with an eye roll.
“Hey Hotch” JJ answered.
Y/N could make out most of the conversation from where she was perched drinking her coffee. She could tell that JJ’s boss was telling her that he was running behind because someone named Jessica had an emergency and couldn’t watch Jack. She assumed Jack was his Son as she heard JJ respond that Will was away too so he couldn’t watch him.
“Psst” Y/N called trying to get JJ’s attention without being rude. “Jack is Henry’s best friend right?”
JJ nodded.
“Tell him to bring him over, I’ll watch him. The more the merrier right?”
“Hang on Hotch” JJ said, turning to Y/N “you’re sure? He’s a great kid, you'll love him, but that’s a whole other human.”
“I’m sure! Tell him” she gestured to the phone.
“Hey Hotch. My cousin,Y/N, is watching the boys. She's amazing with them and she says Jack is welcome to join the party.” After a bit of convincing Hotch agreed with many ‘thank you’s. Before she knew it the very handsome man (who was even more handsome than his picture) showed up at the door with a very sleepy little boy in his arms.
“Hi I’m Y/N, JJ is just grabbing her bags, I’ll show you to Henry’s room.” she smiled.
Hotch got jack settled on the un-used bunk of Henry’s bunk beds and kissed him on the head. Y/N led him out of the room and turned to him.
“I know you don’t have much time but do you have anything specific you need to tell me?” She said handing him a note with her full name and phone number on it.
“Thanks. He’s pretty easy going but I wrote down some basics that I usually give to baby sitters. JJ trusts you though, so I do too.”
“Thank you. Call whenever you want okay? Be safe, and keep my Jayjee safe too.” She smiled.
“Always” he nodded.
Hotch and JJ decided to carpool to Quantico for the briefing.
“Y/N seems nice.” Hotch says as he drives, face serious as usual but JJ can see the softness. She knew Y/N and Hotch would get along. They had more in commen than most people knew, but unfortunately that included a big lose and both Being very closed off to new relationships. However she had hope.
“Yeah, she’s my very best friend. She’s amazing with kids too so Jack is in very good hands.” She smiled.
“I can tell” he replied.
“I’ve missed her, she was back in PA for the last few years but before that she lived in Maryland so it wasn’t too bad of a drive. Still this is way better."
“Does she work with children for a living?” he asked, trying to seem his normal nonchalant self, but not truly caring because he knew JJ saw straight through him anyway.
“No she is a translator for a publishing company. She translates books to and from other languages. She studied linguistics and Languages in college and has her PHD. She’s basically the whole package!" She said with a wink, causing Hotch to chuckle.
“Why so many questions? You interested boss?” she asked jokingly.
“wh-, I-, she’s watching my kid, I was just...” Hotch stumbled in a way he prided himself on not doing often.
“It’s okay, I think she’s interested too.” She said quietly.
“What?”
“She had the look after you talked” she laughed at Hotch’s confused face.” It’s a look I’ve only seen a few times but it means she’s interested so do what you will with that just be careful with her. She’s been through a lot.”
“JJ” Hotch warned firmly.
“I know I know, I’m dropping it!” she said and stuck to her word, changing the conversation to their kids and their adorable antics.
Throughout the case JJ and Hotch each called Y/N every night to check on their little ones. JJ made sure to check on Y/N too while Hotch usually kept their chats short but couldn't deny he enjoyed talking to her. She found herself looking forward to his call each night, she knew it was stupid but she let herself enjoy the butterflies a little bit anyway.
She had also been enjoying her time with not only 'her boys' but also Jack. Jack is a sweet kid and she loved talking to him about school, and soccer, and his family. One night before bed, after Michael and Henry fell asleep, Jack asked Y/N if she had any favorite stories.
“Of course I do, my mom used to tell me a story about fairies every night before bed.” Y/N replied.
“My Daddy says that my Momma used to sing me special songs before bed.” Jack said with a sad smile. “Daddy sings them sometimes but they make him a little sad, I wish he had someone to make him happy.”
“He has you sweet boy” Y/N cooed and kissed his head.
“I know but I mean besides me” Jack said.
“You don’t have to worry Jack, because I like to think that no matter how much someone hurts, there is always someone else out there that will make them smile again.” She assured him and smiled as he cocked his head to look up at her. “I lost someone who made me smile too, but I still find new people who make my life happy. My cousin and her family, you…” she smiled
“My daddy?” Jack asked.
She smiled and said, "Yeah your Daddy too, I don’t know him very well but he has to be great to have a kid like you!” she chuckled.
“He’s the best.” He said as he snuggled into her side, “You lost some one you love, like how daddy and I lost my momma?”
“I did” she nodded. "His name was Connor, he made me very happy but I know he looks over me and keeps me safe. Just like your Momma does for you and your Daddy.”
Jack looked up at her and smiled as he started to tell Y/N all about what he remembers about Hailey and how he feels. Y/N snuggled up close to him, listening and adding in here in there until he falls sound asleep.
She knew that when Aaron and JJ come back she’ll have to talk to him about this but for now she’s just happy that that that sweet little boy feels comfortable enough to open up to her. Their conversation however had her begin to think about Connor, and the day her whole life got turned upside-down. Hearing Jack talk all about his mom made her almost want to open up about her own feelings about her late husband after all this time, but for now she’s just curl up with some tea and JJ’s Netflix account.

all of them Bitch
ZO WANTS ME TO ANSWER ALL OF THESE CRUCIAL DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS.
Tumblr media
FREDZILLA!    gonna  throw  these  under  the  cut  so  i  don’t  clog  the  dash  up,  but  feel  free  to  read  if  ur  bored  and  wanna  learn  more  about  fred  :P
what would completely break your character?
fred  is  known  for  his  indomitable   spirit.  it’s  that  spirit  that  makes  him  such  an  asset  to  the  big  hero  6,  and  what  makes  him  such  a  wonderful  friend.  however,  fred  also  has  a  tendency  to  chase  people.  he  invests  a  large  amount  of  himself  in  nearly  everyone  he  meets.  normally  this  isn’t  an  issue,  but  when  he  really  ends  up  attached  to  someone  and  that  isn’t  reciprocated   /    cut  off,  he  will  likely  feel  crushed.   tldr;  realizing  he  isn’t  as  important  to  other  people  as  he  may  think  he  is
what was the best thing in your character’s life?
the  best  thing  in  fred’s  life  is  /  was  his  friend  group  +  heathcliff  /  actually  getting  to  become  a  superhero.   with  the  loss  of  tadashi,  these  two  things  collided,  enforcing  just  how  much  he  loves  each  of  them.
what was the worst thing in your character’s life?
though  he  will  never  say  it,  the  distance  he  feels  towards  his  parents,  particularly  his  father.   he  knows  that  even  after  they  begin  to  form  a  close  relationship  (  as  per  the  series  ),  that  he  has  missed  out  on  a  significant  amount  of  time  with  them  that  he  can  never  get  back.   they  have  basically  missed  him  growing  up,  and  for  someone  who  values  family  so  deeply,  it  hurts.    tadashi’s  death  is  right  up  there  in  the  running  as  well.
what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
watching  his  first  wendy  wower  science  hour  tv  show  alone  in  his  living  room  as  a  kid.     his  mother  asking  him  what  color  he  wanted  his  room  painted.    a  girl  telling  him  the  chip  in  his  teeth  was  cute.    a  lunchlady  giving  him  an  extra  bag  of  chips  after  he  waved  to  her  the  day  prior.   being  underwater  at  night  during  a  pool  party.    etc.
does your character work so they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up the time they aren’t working?
fred,  being  as  rich  as  he  is,  doesn’t  have  to  work  to  support  his  hobbies.   and  instead  of  using  his  hobbies  to  fill  up  time  he  isn’t  working,  he  uses  his  hobbies  to  cope  with  loneliness  and  to  have  an  outlet  for  his  endless  excitement.
what is your character reluctant to tell people?
it’s  not  that  he’s  necessary  reluctant  to  tell  people  that  he’s  rich,  but  he  usually  doesn’t  just  because  he  doesn’t  think  it’s  important  until  it  comes  up  naturally.    still,  he  also  feels  reluctance  in  describing  the  full  nature  of  his  relationship  with  his  parents  to  others   /   admitting  on  occasion  when  he’s  wrong   (  for  the  fear  of  looking  as  stupid  as  some  think  he  is).   for  the  most  part,  he’s  a  pretty  open  book.
how does your character feel about sex?
fred  is  sex  positive,  and  pretty  chill  about  his  own  sex  life  /  other’s  preferences  as  far  as  their  opinions  towards  it  goes.   he  lost  his  virginity  before  going  to  college,  identifies  as  a  proud  bisexual,  and  is  fairly  sexually  active.   it  isn’t  really  a  big  deal  to  him  to  have  hookups  and  things   -   but  that  doesn’t  mean  he’s  careless  about  them  either.   he  takes  good  care  of  his  partners  and  doesn’t  believe  in  judging  anyone  for  their  choices.
how many friends does your character have?
as  far  as  close  friends  go  in  his   MAIN   verse,  he  considers  the  big  hero  6  (  baymax  included  )   as  his  close  /  best  friends.   he  also  has  a  tendency  to  call  those  he’s  merely  acquainted  with  “friends”  as  part  of  his  agenda  to  establish  a  stronger  friendship  with  them.
how many friends does your character want?
as  many  as  he  can  possibly  have.   the  more  the  merrier.   he  craves  social  interaction  /  friendships  more  than  anything  else  in  the  world.
what would your character make a scene in public about?
fred  has  a  tendency  to  make  a  scene  in  general,  during  both  when  he’s  happy  and  when  he’s  upset.   as  far  as  happiness  goes,  he’ll  jump  for  joy  over  one  of  his  special  interests,  a  positive  end  to  something  he’s  worked  towards,  and  more.    as  far  as  negative  reactions  go,  he  will  throw  a  fit  if  someone  he  knows  and  loves  is  in  significant  trouble,  if  someone  sabotages  his  chance  to  obtain  something  that  would  make  him  happy,  and  more.    basically,  making  scenes  isn’t  something  he  does  scarcely.
for what would your character give their life?
for  his  friends,  his  parents,  heathcliff,  for  anyone  in  need.   as  a  hero,  he’s  incredibly  selfless,  and  would  willingly  throw  himself  in  the  path  of  danger  for  anyone  who  needs  saving.   this  doesn’t  mean  he  wants  to  die  /  that  his  desire  to  protect  his  loved  ones  is  diminished,  but  rather  that  he  has  an  extremely,  almost  faultedly  large  heart.
what are your character’s major flaws?
his  extreme  selflessness  /  hero  complex,  his  intense  desire  to  insert  himself  into  the  lives  of  others,  his  potentially  dangerous  foolishness  /  recklessness,   his  materialistic  nature.
what does your character pretend or try to care about?
while  fred  isn’t  one  to  pretend  to  care  about  something,  he  will  definitely  try  to  care  about  something  if  it  is  important  to  someone  close  to  him.   a  prime  example  of  this  is  how  he  tries  his  best  to  appreciate  art,  one  of  honey  lemon’s  special  interests,  solely  because  it  makes  her  happy  even  though  he  himself  finds  it  a  bit  boring.
how does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
fred  definitely  knows  that  he  comes  off  as  goofy,  but  only  sometimes.   there  are  points   (  such  as  occasions  when  he’s  monologuing,  etc.  )   where  he  truly  believes  that  he  looks  more  heroic  /  intelligent  than  he  actually  does.    he,  for  the  most  part,  comes  off  as  excitable,  goofy,  and  a  bit  dim   -   even  when  he  thinks  he’s  really  doing  That ™.    however,  he  has  his  heroic,  brave,  and  intelligent  moments  as  well.
what is your character afraid of?
fred  has  arachnophobia,  as  his  fear  of  spiders  is  actually  debilitating.   aside  from  this,  his  more  mentality  based  fears  are  loss  of  his  loved  ones,  rejection,  failure,  and  things  like  that.

open-ended ask bc I know you have the thoughts and we haven't talked about it in a while: tell me your thoughts on thorin oakenshield. personally I feel like people try to way too hard to redeem him for the bad things he did and that it's okay that he was kind of an asshole, you can be an asshole and yet still have good qualities. but anyway what do you think
I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life for someone to send me this ask…and now I’ve been given permission to ramble on about Thorin. So thank you for that.
First, let me point out that I’ll mostly be talking about movie Thorin. I think he’s an overall faithful adaptation of book Thorin, but they just expand on him a whole lot more. So there’s more to discuss with movie Thorin.
Thorin is a tragic character. That’s pretty obvious when you watch all three movies. He grows up a prince, watches his grandfather become obsessed with his treasure, loses his home, loses his grandfather then his father, then he goes on this quest to reclaim his home, succumbs to the obsession with gold that his grandfather had, loses his nephews, and dies. Thorin has very few moments of happiness in The Hobbit. He’s compared to Aragorn a lot, but Aragorn, while he had to suffer his own losses, had a lot more joy in his life. He had Arwen, a surrogate family, he had his mother for much of his life, and he got his happy ending. Thorin didn’t get any of that. And I think that’s important to point out, because much of what makes Thorin so sympathetic is how awful his life was, and how little happiness he ever got to experience.
Thorin’s story ultimately is one of redemption. While he had nothing to redeem himself for at the beginning of the first movie, his actions over the course of the movies show him to be deeply flawed and in need of redemption. And because this is Tolkien, the only way to redeem yourself is to die (hi Boromir). Thorin generally doesn’t treat Bilbo very well because he doesn’t think he has any value. He does change his mind and apologizes to him at the end of the first movie for how he treated him. That on its own is a big show of growth. But unfortunately, even though he shows great development in that scene, he only gets worse from there.
Even though he gets worse, it never comes across as character regression. Thorin gets worse along the journey because they’re getting closer and closer to Erebor, and he’s desperate to reclaim it. That’s why his behavior worsens, because of how badly he wants to reclaim his home, not because he’s a bad person. One of Thorin’s best scenes does a lot to explain his behavior. When they first enter Erebor, and he’s so emotional about being home again. He missed Erebor so desperately and wants nothing more than to make it what it was again.
So his behavior continues to suffer. He falls to dragon sickness, he hesitates to go into Erebor to help Bilbo even though Bilbo is alone against a DRAGON, when he does go to find Bilbo, he threatens him with his sword. This is all really bad, but it stems from, what he believes, is a noble purpose. And again, the dragon sickness affects his actions.
Probably the worst thing Thorin did, which he should be criticized for, is, well, trying to kill Bilbo. This scene can be sugar coated at times, but let’s be real. He grabbed Bilbo and held him against the edge of a steep drop. Yes, it’s unlikely that he would have gone through with it, but that doesn’t excuse it. He treats Bilbo terribly in this scene, calling him a “rat” and a “thief.” He has completely fallen to dragon sickness at this point, and also consumed by trying to hold onto Erebor, and he does a horrible thing in this scene. It’s in this scene, really, where we knew he was going to have to undergo a great moment of redemption.
I think the most important moment of Thorin’s redemption is when he overcomes the dragon sickness. His death is a big deal, yeah, but he’s able to break through the dragon sickness because he realized that what he was doing was terrible. I LOVE the moment when he throws the crown off his head. He’s almost disgusted with himself. And then he leads the Company into battle, and they win that battle because of him. Thorin overcoming his dragon sickness really did save everyone.
So I gotta talk about his death scene while I’m talking about his redemption. It’s very important that he apologizes to Bilbo. His redemption wouldn’t have been complete without that. He tells him he’s sorry, and recognizes how he had been so wrong with his last words “If more people valued home [or food and cheer if it’s the book] above gold, this world would be a merrier place.” He places value on Bilbo with that line, because he’s essentially telling him “If there were more people like you in the world and fewer people like me the world would be better.” and that’s important because again, his opinion about Bilbo matters to his character arc, and he’s also recognizing that his behavior was awful, and he caused people to suffer because of his obsession with gold. Recognizing the error of your ways is so important to redemption and Thorin does it with that line.
He really does pay for his mistakes. He has to watch one of his nephews die in front of him, and then he dies at the hands of his worst foe. He never gets to see Erebor brought back to its former glory. He doesn’t become king. It really is a horrible ending for him, but for a tragic character like him, that was the way it had to go.
This is a more subtle thing, but in a way, Thorin saves Middle Earth when he gives Bilbo the mithril, something he didn’t have to do that and truly did it out of decency and care for Bilbo. Thorin inadvertently saves Frodo’s life when he gives Bilbo the mithril, and because of that, Frodo is able to bring the ring to Mordor, and the ring is ultimately destroyed. So I do think that’s a part of his redemption. He had a hand in the saving of Middle Earth.
So anyway, I get what you’re saying about people trying really hard to redeem him that they neglect all the really bad things he did. I see that all the time too. People don’t like to acknowledge the terrible things he did to Bilbo especially. But I do think he’s an ultimately redeemable character because his intentions were never bad. He had good intentions in wanting to reclaim his home. He cared about his family and friends. He fell under dragon sickness, yes, but was able to overcome it. Before he died, he recognized his faults and apologized.
Thorin’s not an easy character. He’s actually one of the most difficult characters in the books and the movies. We’re supposed to have mixed feelings about him. My perception of him is that he’s a tragic and flawed character, but that’s why I enjoy him so much.

Good Stuff ~ Stray Thoughts: School Raze {MLP}
*sigh* Well, it’s the end of season 8 *loading gun shells* had some bad episodes here and there but it wasn’t that bad. But now, it’ll be a bit sad that I gotta say goodbye for now... *cocks shotgun* Roll it.
Tumblr media
That’s Close enough
PART 1 (Tartarus’ Door)
Derpy! Aww, it’s a wonderful thing that you’re the first pony we get to see. Man I can’t see this going wrong in any-- *sees Cozy Glow*....I think I’m gonna hurl.
Ooh, I like the new rainbow haired background pony. Having some muted colors for her mane with a nice pink for the body. Easy, yet unique pony design I’ve seen in a bit
“Friendship Assistant“ Short for “Pastor’s kiss ass”
Silver Stream likes crosswords? That... doesn’t feel out of place for her
Wait, how do you keep saddle bags on as a pegasus? Wouldn’t they be blocking their... ability to fly?
Rainbow’s loyalty is as bold as how she dresses in style
One look into Cloudsdale and I’m seeing fake news. Storm clouds can’t survive in altitudes higher than the regular clouds. We gotta drain the swamp in the Rainbow factory
Glim Glam being the rock as usual. Though it begs the question, if you’re standing on something and you don’t have wings, will you still fall?
Not scared to immediately being proven wrong. That’s the warrior’s way
And why is Yona falling to her death the scene before the intro? Not COOL, show!
Also, it’s a wonder, right? A character’s gonna die? Turn on the happy music.
How Ocellus was able to catch the admittedly heavy yak is something else
Man, characters can get over trauma pretty easy
OH NO, magical erectile dysfunction
Nothing to worry about? One (best yak) nearly became a pancake, Twilight, you taking this pretty easily.
I agree with Glimmy’s memeface, that was uncalled for, Twily
Snap, Ms. Glimmer
Yeesh, Rarity, you did that to yourself
Tirek? My my, best villain making a return?
That was gross. Thank you, Spike.
Why do potions need magic? It’s juice mixing.
3 DAYS?!
Wait, why do the others wanna go? Why not-- nevermind, it’s safe
Friends, pack your bags. We’re going to hell!
Surviving Discord’s shit is a bar you really gotta cross to challenge anything
Cozy, go dry yourself off
I smell a sabotage, and I’m glad the student 6 pick up on the child’s bullshit
That was casually speciest, Cozy
YONAAAAA! Standing up for her fellow dragon! Though, I gotta agree with Gallus. Who protests with homework?!
Cozy, I had enough of your shit
Huh, they’re already regretting the trip to hell. Wimps
So is the school an all day school? There’s a night school, so what?
Head Mare? More like Head Ass
Wow, ponies can be a-holes
Uhhh, Darla, why’d you leave the villainy open?
That was certainly a convenient yet useless artifact
Ah good, Pinkie was gonna sacrifice herself for the greater good
Okay, I want a book cataloging these animals of Tartarus
OH NO, racist allegory pony is back!
Cerberus!! Oh, I always wanted one.
TIREK! Good seeing ya
rerorerorerorerorerorerorerorerorerorero~
Oh, you didn’t think of this, did you ponies?
Come on, I’ve seen Kiwi farms eavesdrop better
Actually, nature would’ve killed off ponies if the other animals had their way
They’re college students, racist allegory pony, what the fuck would they want with magic?
Glad you’re standing for your fellow pony, Sandbar,
We got a “What in Tarnation?” folks. Giddyup
Wait, what revenge? You literally have no part in this.
Also, Pen pals with a demon. I think there’s an anime for that.
Cozy Glow was pen pals with Tirek? Gasp.
My god, Glim Glam! Wait, would that mean she’s gonna die in that orb or absorb the magic of that orb?
What realm? Why not just absorb the magic? You’ll practically have the infinity stones’ power in your hooves
Also, I like the 3D scene they did here. That is the best scene of this show period
“Friendship is Power“ Well... I mean-- you’re not THAT wrong.
For a future Empress of Friendship, you sure picked the right tape for making that crown, you cheeky ass clod
TO BE CONTINUED (after a commercial break)
Part 2 (Infinpony Crisis)
I just love when all shit is about to go down, then HAPPY INTRO TIME
Come on, Spike, this is no time for semantics
So that was the plan? Draining the magic to give Tirek some company? There’s GOT to be more to this plan.
Good job, Rainbow, you did them proud
Twilight, I know it’s not gonna work, but I am intrigued
We need to build a wall around Equestria, and make the dragons pay for it
Well you have a point, racist allegory pony, Twilight has caught the idiot flu over this season
JESUS CHRIST, it’s the hands of the damned!
You just now remembered your other friends, Sandbar?
Nice hostage room. Oh yeah, have ya’ll tried the window?
Also, have I mentioned Yona being the best? (MANY TIMES) Well it’s true. I’m glad she has undoubted trust in her friends
Okay, you get a brownie point for that line, Mayo pony
Also, nice crowbar
Also, 3rd best moment from Yona. Though I do not ship her and Sandbar. Gross.
Honestly, racist allegory pony is the most annoying part of this story
Alright, Cozy. I’ll cut ya some slack for shutting him down like that.
Oh no, they’re gonna throw him in the hot box
I’m glad ponies are easily impressionable enough to agree to chain bondage
This little girl has a fucking skull. What?
So... let me get this straight Cozy, you cotton candy headed nut, your plan is to run the school to get more friends. More friends equaling more power over Equestria, I suppose by having influence over the public for being such a kiss ass? When there is a goddamn castle right next to the school with everything a pony might want, need, in taking over the world. In addition to dropping all magic to another realm to keep the mane six in hell with Tirek, because you can’t think of owning the magic yourself?
Holy shit, this is the most unnecessarily convoluted plan in the history of the show. I thought Starlight did worse, but no.
Gloating wouldn’t ease that L of yours, racist allegory pony
Yona, never change. You are a highlight of this episode
Also, consider yourself redeemed, racist allegory pony
Good job, Tirek. You now have prison mates.
Wow, who knew Pinkie was more of a villain than a literal demon?
Okay, that was funny. You get another point, Cozy
*shudders* Finals.
Wait, how did you get all those pony down there, Darla?
Open the door, get on the floor, pony up on the dinosaur
How would they know it was the third day?
Tell her off, Gallus! Second best character
As much as this is quite a climax, I am not liking those ghost hands
The tree of EHARMONY, back at it again with the deus ex machina!
Okay, so Yona is honesty, Silver’s laughter, Smolder’s loyalty, Gallus is generosity, Sandbar’s kindness, and Ocellus is magic? Makes a bit of sense.
And that’s why Yona is best. She’s everything Applejack isn’t
Everybody duck, it’s explosion time
By the tools of Equestria... WE HAVE THE POWERRRRRRRR!
Pretty lights
Haha, and Tirek failed
Come on, Glim Glam, nothing wrong with a Yak hug
Ah, Cozy *rubs hands* you survived.
Alright, real talk.... Cozy, you fucking clod. Not only were you never convincing, not only was your plan remarkably crazier than Starlight’s of all ponies, not only was your motive behind this the 3rd dumbest I’ve ever heard from this series, but my god, you have failed to realize that what you tried to do was never gonna work in any fashion soon as the public thought for themselves. At least Starlight had her magic and charm to fool her town before the jig was up, YOU relied on sheer ignorance to hopefully get whatever it was you wanted. *chuckles* You make Frank Underwood look like a saint, you curly headed nutcase.
And you think you were gonna make friends somewhere else after you literally threatened to wipe away all magic? Bravo, show, you made me chortle harder than I imagined.
“Oh no, my tiny wings can’t outrun the law”
Well you say that, Neighsay, but Twilight really isn’t suitable for running a school. I think the season proved that pretty well.
It’s only been one semest- fuck off, show, it should’ve been well over a semester!
Though this might mean more student 6, which means more Yona. I’m down with that!! *BANG BANG*
What does he think friendship is, a currency? Who wrote this?
Thank you, CMC, you did your part
“Oh my god, they put a child in hell?“ Well, she did try to erase magic, as well as send 7 characters to their potential deaths and trap 7 more characters in the same hell. Compared to the other villains we’ve had, she genuinely pulled worse. So really, I’m indifferent about it, especially when I don’t... like her or care about her.
But she’ll be back?! *deep groan* I guess with Yona being around, there has to be an equivalent exchange somewhat. Plus we don’t know her origins so I guess it’s reasonable. Bad way to end the season, show.
But you know what? This was all fun. Won’t deny that.
So, woof, moral of the story? Well, just because you have friends, doesn’t mean you’ll have power because of it. The same way having followers, subscribers, whatever, doesn’t mean you're a permanent influence over them. Real friends give you power, power that you can use for the good of yourself as well as others. Your real friends give you the wholeness that you might’ve never been able to discover yourself, whether it be with wisdom or with laughter. “The more the merrier” is not a wrong idea to have, but quality should come before quantity, if that make sense.

1, 2, 8, 10!
crucial muse development questions.   send a number in my inbox to find out more about my character as a person  ( because often, the most important things about character development have nothing to do with their shoe size or netflix queue ).
what would completely break your character?
what was the best thing in your character’s life?
8. how many friends does your character have?
10. what would your character make a scene in public about?
Tumblr media
This got pretty long, so it’s under the cut!
   1. OOH boy, hm, how about the death of her loved ones? How about regaining all the memories of her past life, to watch her loving family wither and die with no way to stop it? No way to help? Over five hundred years in the past with no way to bring them back- no Light left in that cave aside from her own. Torture could not break her, even the Fall of the City was not enough. There was grief and horror, hate, but she was not broken then. Only fueled to fight harder and daring to risk losing it all in the hopes of bringing some semblance of peace back.
Kill those she loves, her close friends, her partners, those she considers family, but not through violence. Things she can’t avenge, like disease or just stupid accidents, and she will break one fracture at a time.
Then- failure. Solgun wants desperately to form an alliance with the Fallen, to share the Earth and the Traveler’s Light with them. Both Humanity and Eliksni are in perilous condition and to her there is no sensible reason for them to stay enemies. She’s formed a sort of truce with a small group of Eliksni and they won’t deliberately fight Guardians passing through, but if even this group were to turn on humanity?? I think she would have a very, very difficult time finding the will to fight.
    2. The best thing in her life? Her friends! They are precious and dear, her world does revolve around being social with others. It’s not always a good thing, being dependent on others to feel validated, but it’s also just basic human nature.  She wants people to love and care for. The more, the merrier! Solgun is also thrilled when she gets people to meet and be friends, not at all bothered when sometimes- they end up hanging out together more than they do with her! She’s just happy that they get along so well ( and that she may have been responsible for instigating an awesome friendship ).
Though she really, really loves riding her Sparrow across all landscapes. Liberating, racing across the worlds is one of the few times she ever finds contentment in solace.
   8. Fuck, I honestly don’t know?? At the beginning she had like... Two. Now she’s got a whole bunch of friends to love on! At least twenty friends off the top of my head- though that number may be heading into the thirties pretty fast as more muses are met.
   10. Sol? Making a scene in public? It’s more likely than you think! There is a LOT that Sol would be willing to get into an uproar for. Ugly clothes on display is one, though this is always just between her and the display, but Sol will get VERY upset if she sees anyone being wronged in any way. A child gets shoved by another? She’s there, scooping them up back to their feet and hissing at the offender. Being hissed at by an Guardian cloaked in black, neon, and BONE is more than enough to spook misbehaving children. Solgun is extremely protective of kids (and living creatures in general) but does not hesitate to put a foot down to establish what is right and wrong.
Solgun is usually calm when discussing the Eliksni-Human relations but can get VERY heated when individuals insist that Fallen are evil and they could never work with the four armed bugs. This... can lead to a fistfight, to be totally honest. Bigotry in any sense is something she intends to vanquish.
Basically, any wrongdoing in her books is gonna get called the fuck out... for better or worse. and again, hideous clothes.

I really enjoy your blog so is it okay if I ask you top 10 pet peeves in novels? It can be tropes or even a niche moment in a particular book. I like writing myself and would appreciate the help.
hmmMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM sure, I can come up with some things! bear in mind I read almost exclusively fantasy, and mostly “low” ie not game of thrones fantasy at that, including a loooot of YA, so my items will reflect that.
Top (YA, Fantasy) Fiction Pet Peeves:
1) Unnecessary post-apocalyptic setting  WHY THE FUCK. DO PEOPLE KEEP DOING THIS. WHAT DOES THIS GAIN ANYONE. WHAT IS THE POINT. Red Queen, The Selection, The Queen of the Tearling, and that weird TV show The Shanarananaharahahananaaa Chronicles all do this. It’s, frankly, a cheap-ass bid for Dark and Gritty points, and also an excuse to set things in America But Fantasy, and it’s always bad and awkward. This isn’t planet of the apes, just make your damn fantasy world; you don’t have to try to make it more ~realistic~ by putting the ruins of the statue of liberty in the background. That’s stupid and you’re stupid.
2) One-note characters  Mostly present via The Bitch or The Bully stereotype, but also seen in The Bratty Brother, The Sweet Sister, The Spacey DGAF Parent, and the Eccentric Wise Elder. I get that there’s not time to flesh out every single person your protagonist comes into contact with, but certain archetypes are so fucking boring and done to death that I tune out immediately. It’s not 2004 anymore. The game has evolved. We can do better. We can be more interesting.
Related to the sweet sister trope, I’d like to bring up this text post from my other blog:
Tumblr media
3) When the protagonists’ actions/ choices do not affect the plot  Alright, this one isn’t even a pet peeve, it’s basic narrative construction. Your story is supposed to be about your protagonist (or your two or three protagonists, in a multi-pov story, but for simplicity’s sake we’ll talk about one) and their arc, how they change and grow. a) If their actions never have consequences, how the fuck do they, like, learn things? and b) if their actions have no bearing on the climax of the story, how the fuck does the story demonstrate that they’ve changed, or come to a meaningful conclusion that’s related to that? Sure there’s weird literary exceptions, and certainly some fantasy in particular is more plot than character driven, but if your character is honestly never proactive, particularly through the ending of the book, uh, i have a major problem and so should you.
4) The Mandatory Feminism Stuff  we should all know these by now. “Not Like Other Girls” is bad. Hating on corsets and other femme paraphernalia is bad (and moreover i personally resent it because I love corsets). A book with a female protagonist and no other important female characters (or only evil female characters) is bad. A high fantasy series that builds its worldbuilding on a raging patriarchy for the purpose of elevating a few specific women into positions of power for superficial RAH RAH FEMINISM points while not addressing systematic oppression is really, really bad. Defining female empowerment as only one thing (IE picking up a sword and Proving Yourself just as badass as all those scoffing men!!!) is bad. I’m very tired and I want to read about women-- different kinds of women, with different moral alignments and interests and abilities and ethnic backgrounds and ages and sexualities and beliefs-- helping each other and being forces in the world and in each others’ lives. That’s it. That’s all I want. I have no clue why that’s so elusive.
5) Characters being flippant to the point of stupidity because........ that’s cool, i guess?  Homygod, I am so sick to my teeth of characters who would get their asses kicked IRL for being obnoxious and overly glib be appraised with “wow, you’ve really got some nerve! I like you, kid!” or some variation therof. Mouthing off to superiors/ royalty? Charging into a fight on a stray heroic impulse despite everyone with a brain and their mom telling you you’re going to die because you just picked up swordfighting on tuesday? flagrantly and thoughtlessly disregarding engrained cultural things because they don’t align with your conveniently 2017 sense of social justice despite you living in an analogue-medieval world? Not cute. It will get you fucking killed. If your character doesn’t seem to grasp that, I’m going to think they’re a dumbshit, and if the book rewards rather than punishes that, I’m not going to take it very seriously. (obviously there are exceptions to this, particularly if your world doesn’t take itself very seriously, but if you expect to instill a real sense of danger in day-to-day life, your protagonist doesn’t get to be exempt from that because they’re hot and witty.)
6) Also, characters being stubborn. This goes with my last point, because it’s another trait people seem to think is like cool, or something? That stubborn people are stubborn because they’re Strong? that it’s a flaw but it’s actually a Cool Flaw, like in job interviews when they ask your weakness and you say “i’m just TOO hard of a worker, ha ha ha”? U see this a lot in female characters written by people who are uncomfortable writing female characters, i think because, again, it mistakenly reads as Strength on some really superficial level, and because the banter and petty conflict that arises from it temporarily distracts from weak overall characterization. If you’re going to write a character being stubborn, that’s great! But understand that a) it’s a real flaw that can genuinely blind them to good ideas and cause unnecessary friction that shouldn’t be treated as endearing, b) it’s not a replacement for other elements of characterization!! and c) it’s the flipside of being assertive, which is a good thing: no trait is only a flaw or a strength, and so any trait a character possess in abundance should both help and hinder them at different times, with maturity level tempering the bad, to a degree. stubbornness is no different.
7) Sexual assault (or the threat of it) all over the fucking place. Do i have to explain this one? Of course ownvoices books about sexual assault survivors are good and necessary but we are all sick to death of "fun” fantasy worlds where the female characters exist under the constant and unending threat of rape, where sexual assault is common as window dressing and the love interests are Super Special Feminist Snowflakes for being so revolutionary as to take consent into account. fuck that. that should be the bare fucking minimum. i am so tired.
8) The Six-Pack Sex Appeal Golem  Honestly, I am not here to hate on love triangles, because I am ALL ABOUT the romance and the more the merrier. But what i do really, really loathe is the incredibly narrow parameters that have come to exist for male love interests, to the point where they all tend to feel like the same guy in need of anger management: a little broody, smart, serious, jealous and protective to a fault, if we get his POV we get real creepy sexual thoughts out of nowhere while he acts vaguely standoffish and probably a little patronizing to a woman whose Attitude gives him a boner. This man does not experience emotions that can’t be interpreted as darkly sexual, or possibly A Little Bit Vulnerable, just for that one scene of mandatory backstory reveal. I recently reviewed a real bad romance novel and described the hero as “a barely-consistent golem of toxic masculine ideals” and that’s what I’m talking about here. MAKE YOUR LOVE INTERESTS WELL-ROUNDED AND UNIQUE CHARACTERS LIKE ALL YOUR OTHER CHARACTERS. Forget what’s “sexy,” I wanna see the male love interests be Soft and Weird and cry in an unattractive way. For further reading/ a great case study of the Masculine Golem, please just read this article about how abysmal the romance in ROAR is. (For what it’s worth, I actually think SJM manages to avoid this in the ACOTAR series. Rhys and Tamlin suck but they are still mostly consistent characters, not just shells inhabited by the spirit of heterosexuality. your mileage may vary, though.)
9) Secret Superpower/ She Was The Missing Princess/ Queen All Along  I think this is a trend that’s slowly but surely passing from YA, but for a while you couldn’t throw a rock in a bookstore without hitting a trilogy where a long-lost missing princess was established in chapter 1 and you spent the whole fucking first book knowing the orphaned heroine with a murky past was gonna turn out to be the princess and you were always right. Queens are also a huge fucking thing right now, although they don’t tend to follow that exact formula. See also the character’s discovery of a superpower catapulting them into a new exciting life-- basically any discovery of a Cool Sexy birthright as a catalyst for a plot is kind of played out and boring, at this point in time? This ties into my earlier point about wanting characters’ choices to shape the plot; it’s so much easier to have them reacting to external forces, especially dramatic, aesthetic ones, i get that, but you’ll get a more original and interesting story the more you resist that urge. And everyone is fucking tired of secret princesses and can spot them a mile away, y’all.
10) OMG magic is outlawed!!! BUT WAIT THE PROTAGONIST HAS SECRET MAGIC! CAN SHE RISE ABOVE PERSECUTION AND HER PROBABLE ROMANCE WITH THE PRINCE OF THIS POORLY-THOUGHT-OUT TOTALITARIAN REGIME TO LEAD ALL MAGIC-HAVERS TO FREEDOM AND ACCEPTANCE???? If you do this i’m going to come to your house and pour a cup of soda on your head. This is dumb and I can’t believe I’ve seen it multiple times. I’m not even explaining this it should be obvious.
Honorable mentions go to: Excessive mentions/ descriptions of eye color, really tired ways of describing kissing, elemental magic is super fucking overdone, instalove, and Training Montages
