i think i find it so difficult to write au fanfics for bob's burgers because they're all kids with their whole lives ahead of them. like a coffee shop au isnt necessarily an ALTERNATE universe it could literally just be their lives in ten years. and writing an alternate universe where they're still nine years old or whatever doesnt leave me with very much to work with bcuz like.... au where they go to a different school. or if louise was a bully?? where are gene and tina in this situation??? it gets too sad and fantasy au's dont really work very well w/ these characters. bob and linda au's dont even work bcuz i keep thinking about the kids. cant write a coffee shop meetcute about a middle aged married couple with three kids without feeling like something important is missing. i guess the concept of the show just doesnt lend itself very well to alternate universes

(probably doesnt help that so many alternate universe concepts have been done BY THE SHOW ITSELF like fantasy au's or old time-y au's or pirate au's etc. these have all been actual episodes)
