Word Count: 762 Prompt: Cooperation Featured Characters: Takuma Momozuka & Minoru Hinata & Kaito Shinonome A/N: Okay, so I said I was going to explore other characters, but there are a couple days where I return to the main eight. This is one of those days. There is some slightly spoiler-ish territory? But in reality, this is just a kind of made up scenario of a brainstorming session my three favorite boys go through. (I say favorite as if I don't love Shuuji and Ryo to a degree too, haha.) It's been a while since I've written them or witnessed them, so I hope it's not terribly OOC. But nevertheless, I persist! @surviveweek
They needed a plan, but they couldn't agree on anything. Well. Correction. The boys couldn't agree on anything.
Aoi, Saki, and Miu had slunk away to let them all work it out. Takuma, Minoru, and Kaito stood in a triangle of sorts, three points of one shape, but all vastly different-minded. The Kemonogami stood in the spaces between them, a triangle of their own, but they hadn't weighed in on this particular discussion just yet. It seemed they had a silent agreement to let them work it out on their own. For once, Takuma did wish that Agumon at least would interject with something, anything.
Minoru sighed, his hands propped on his hips as his entire body slumped with the motion. "We're going in circles. Obviously we need to do something, but…" His expression crumpled, and he kept his eyes fixed on his feet. "I'm not sure we should be risking so much with everything's that happened."
"There's probably no other way," Kaito insisted, his arms crossed tightly across his chest. If he didn't keep his hands contained, they would start flying, and then nothing would get done. "It might be the only way we'll all get out of here."
Takuma agreed with both of them, in some sense. Yes, it was possible that fighting their way out seemed to be the only way to get things done in this world, but Minoru was right—so much had been lost already. How much more before there was nothing left? No one left? And why was it that he was caught in the middle of this? Again?
Kaito glanced down at Dracmon, who stared back at him in silence. "Do you three have anything to add?"
"You know I'm going to follow you no matter what you do, Kaito," Dracmon said simply.
"And I'll follow you, Takuma!" Agumon said, raising one of his clawed hands. Takuma couldn't ask for a better answer from his partner. It was support, and he knew he was going to need it in the coming hours, even days.
All eyes turned to Falcomon, who held up his wings. "You both have valid points. We'll need to be smart about this."
"Exactly. The smart thing to do is to face it head-on. They won't expect it, after everything." Kaito gestured vaguely, referring to the mysterious "they" that was after them.
"But what if they do? We already tried something like that, and Shuuji—" Minoru's mouth twisted, and he saw the pain flash across Kaito and Takuma's faces. What had happened to Ryo had been terrible. What happened to Shuuji… indescribable. Even if Minoru tried, it just made his stomach twist. Swallowing back the bile that wanted to creep up his throat, he continued, "Bad things have happened when we've tried this."
Kaito shook his head in exasperation. "We know better now. If we all stick together, it should be fine. Takuma?" He turned to Takuma, who had retained the same thoughtful look on his face during this entire discussion.
"You're both right," Takuma began. "We need to be careful, and we need to be smart. I do think sticking together, at least better than we have been, will help. Sitting around rarely works out for us. We usually end up doing something rash."
"What do you suggest, Takuma?" Falcomon asked, his eyes seeming particularly wise at this moment.
Takuma closed his eyes to put words to the shapeless thoughts in his head. "We make a plan. A much more thought-out plan than before. We need to be more aware that failure could happen at any moment." He paused, letting out a breath. "Overall, we need to stay together. Keep an eye on each other. Be honest with each other." Slowly, he met Minoru's gaze and then Kaito's. "Then we can make sure we take care of each other."
There was a moment of silence, of contemplation. Kaito and Minoru kept looking at him, processing his proposal. Then they looked at each other and nodded.
"Sounds good to me," Minoru said, the slump disappearing as he straightened and smiled.
Kaito's smile wasn't nearly as wide, but Takuma knew it was genuine all the same. "Yeah. Let's try it."
If this had been a team meeting, Takuma would have suggested they all put their hands in. That didn't seem applicable here, especially not with Falcomon's wings or the eyes on Dracmon's hands, but he pretended they had done it. "Then let's go tell the others."
It was the most hopeful any of the three of them had felt in a long time.

I’ve created some Vanguard Digivolution lines. After Tamer ZERO I plan to do a different take on the crossover with different partners that’s more of a complete au.
These ones just include their straightforward lines and possible dark evos. I don’t know when this story is happening because I’m determined to finish Tamer ZERO first so here’s the lines😅.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was thinking that him having a different partner for season 2 would make sense considering this a complete au where everything is Digimon instead of Vanguard. So instead of his deck getting poofed away it’s his partner with the two coming together as a jogress representing the Liberators.
I also kinda want to use Erlangmon with him at some point 🤔. I’m still deciding how I would want to implement that. Maybe it could be a form that his partner takes on due to the Messiah equivalent’s influence. I do like the idea of his Digimon going from virus to vaccine.
Tumblr media
This is a different take from his partner pick in Tamer ZERO focusing more on the narrative idea on the development from Agumon representing young Kai to the distorted original Metalgreymon. With this comes with a shift from vaccine to virus as he becomes obsessed with gaining power to save Ren. I think BlitzGreymon is very the End-like.
Tumblr media
Kamui’s alternate partner choice was so hard because I decided that every member of Q4 has a partner that’s a different one of the main types so Kamui ended up with free which I think fits him well.
Tumblr media
Dianamon was a really easy choice fr😅. I also like the idea of her having a jogress with Kourin.
Tumblr media
This line is more in reference to her manga/reboot deck whereas the Tamer ZERO one is based on og. Overall, I think it fits rather well as an alternate pick.
Tumblr media
Loogamon is unfortunately too new to have an edgy recolor so the best I could do is Gabumon Black. I have considered giving him Dracmon too because I think they’d vibe. The only reason there is no ultra is because I can’t think of a good candidate for it rn.
Tumblr media
You may have noticed a pattern with all the Psyqualia users (minus Ibuki because the choice for him is perfect regardless of if it breaks the theme) that their partners are all virus type (at some point at least). I thought it would be an interesting reference to the darker side of Psyqualia. Doing Leon’s made me realize that we need more aquatic Digimon fr.
Tumblr media
There’s no way I couldn’t give Deletor Ibuki Arcadiamon. It’s WAY too perfect. Its power level even fits well. After getting friendship speeched he has Hackmon for obvious reasons.
Tumblr media
There’s no way I couldn’t give him Veemon. Using a jogress as a normal evolution is a bit weird but it’s been done before. Also because I was thinking that Paladin Mode reminds me a lot of Chronojet Dragon Z. It’s mode changes as Imperialdramon could be interpreted as it’s many strides. In the future I might include UlforceVeedramon or a different version of Magnamon here (to avoid too much overlap) as references to other strides. The black armored Magnamon is from ReArise. I was thinking it would be a good non-Stingmon included ultimate for Imperialdramon.
I have actually made one for Akina but I want to wait for DivineZ to progress more before finalizing it. I’m still playing around with various ideas on what to give Yu-yu. I’m thinking maybe Dorumon as a reference to Aichi having a beta Digimon considering the Dress seasons seem to remix ideas from the original.

Digimon Survive Week: Day 4 - Supporting Characters
Winds of Change - Chapter 8: Winds of Change - Part Two
“Yes, you screwed up in the waterway. Yes, shit’s dire right now.” Dracmon tells Shuuji. “Yes, it’s true that everything I’ve learned from the past is screaming that we’re fucked, that Lopmon’s memories are as good as gone. But the past doesn’t dictate the future, and it certainly doesn’t take into account what you’re doing right now, or that every single thing you’ve done since the second this egg landed in your arms has been for Lopmon’s sake. The strength of that resolve could very well change his fate—just look how much it’s already changed you!”
The answers to Shuuji's questions are disheartening at best, and he feels worse than ever about what happened in the waterway. Thankfully, Dracmon is around to remind him that although he cannot change the past, he's more than capable of changing the future.
As usual, ao3 link in source, extended author's notes below!
ok yeah maybe it's a stretch to spin the @surviveweek prompt "supporting characters" into "characters that are supportive (: " rather than "secondary characters", but i had been planning on doing this before The Dracmon Chapter was split into what is now chapters 7 and 8. I couldn't pick a (canon) secondary character i was interested in enough to dedicate art or fic to, and what i'd originally been planning for this prompt could also work for one of the others. i probably could have also used this chapter for the "future" prompt later this week, but i have other ideas for that one. so here we are!
i love the scenes scattered around the game where takuma is desperately trying to play charades with kunemon. he has no idea what that little guy is saying at all, and even if the player picks an answer that takuma seems confident in, we'll never really know! i think that's great. kew!
editing this chapter was pretty quick since i'd already gotten through most of it before i decided to split the dracmon section into to parts. that said, i did spend so much time rereading it that i ended up worrying that this chapter wasn't exciting enough. you know how it is. speaking of editing, i really cannot estimate when chapter 9 will be out. it's the last one, and when i gave it a once-over earlier i spotted a lot of things that i want to fine-tune. so we'll see! thank you for your patience - i hope getting two chapters in one week makes up for it a little.
"mattie can you elaborate on dracmon's fresh and spicy mysterious backstory??" no (:
i can elaborate on why i picked dracmon for this conversation though! in part5, it really stuck out to me that dracmon was the one to pull takuma aside to be like "hey you gotta keep an eye on shuuji , somethings fucked". im pretty sure he did it TWICE! there's also a point where kaito is watching shuuji freaking out in the waterway and asks dracmon smth to the effect of "isn't there something we can do?" and dracmon being like "not really no ): ", so it seems like the entire situation was weighing on both kaito and dracmon more than they made it seem. i thought it would be nice to give dracmon the chance to talk to shuuji after it was all said and done and see for himself that he's okay now. as for kaito…? well, we'll see. as for the lore, i'd already started using dracmon to explore the effects of repeated death and regeneration on the memory of digimon in ocean wave, so it was convenient to keep using the same character. also he's my favorite.
so full disclosure i did play a character (a terriermon named nova) in a digimon ttrpg that has a bad evolution and then loses his memories. nova's memory loss was probably a touch more intentional than lopmon's potential memory loss, and his bad evo wasn't a result of something his partner did , but a choice he made for himself. it's been a lot of fun exploring how it happens for lopmon, because it's the same flavor of angst as what happened with nova, but both the context and fallout are pretty different.
lastly, i really do think that if the waterway hadn't happened, kaito's trust issues, minoru's paranoia, and saki's fear would have eventually come up anyway. it manifested as mistrust toward their partners because of what happened with lopmon, but maybe in an alternate truthful part6 where wendimon doesn't happen, we get the library back and the Horrors are unleashed upon them there instead. would've LOVED to know what kaito's were, but i dont think it's ever touched upon other than kaito showing up to the kenzoku fight like "hey what the fuck was that." i know minoru definitely had a library scene but i dont remember what it was, but he was hiding under a desk for a bit??? and then i think saki mmmmight have one in harmony and in moral but i cannot for the life of me remember what they were. i digress.
i hope you enjoyed the end of The Dracmon Interlude! thanks for reading (:

Digimon Survive, Mistakes and Moving On Part 3: Harmony
Day 5 of Survive Week: Relationships
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 4] [Part 5] [Takuma Addition] This part will focus on the Harmony Route, the characters it focuses on, and what that means for the story exploring how this route connects to the larger themes of the game. EDIT: Note for myself: Do not edit while your sleepy or else you'll do stuff like forget to finish whole paragraphs. Sorry for how incomplete this was it got finished really late this should be (mostly) fixed now! Spoilers for: All of Harmony and parts of Wrathful CWs: Death, Self-Hatred, Stalking.
Save the World Something that might trip a few people up when the routes first diverge is that Harmony's route choice is "Save the World" while Moral's is "Stay true to your friends", if Harmony focuses on cooperation and...well harmony and Moral focuses on doing the right thing then shouldn't they be switched? Well, no, the thing about a Harmony Takuma is that he isn't saving the world because it's right.
Takuma: I...want to help save the world, too. Takuma: (To be honest, I don't know if I'm up to it. Part of me doesn't want to deal with it.) Takuma: (But after all I've been through, I can't just pretend like it's not my problem!)
He's coming because he wants to help Miyuki save the world, because this isn't just her problem, or his friends' problem, it's also his.
So they jump into the portal, and Chapter 9 starts, and we are greeted with a flashback focusing on Miu Shininome. Miu Shininome
Miu Shininome is the one who lead you into the shrine in the first place, and at first glance, she seems like a bit of a brat. She doesn't exactly make the best first impression considering when you first meet her she leads Ryo and Saki to the shrine that sends you to this world and the second time you meet her she's acting like a "Queen" to a bunch of Kemonogami. Miu is actually really bad at expressing her emotions. She's always putting on show. Something she even admits this to Takuma in Chapter 5.
Miu: Um, well you know how me and Kaito moved here not too long ago, right? Takuma: Yeah, Kaito told me. Miu: Things got kinda, well, dicey in the last place we lived so we moved here. Takuma: Kinda dicey...? Miu: Yeah, dicey, Kaito's been a pain in my behind ever since. Miu: He always tries to stick close to me, and blows his top at the slightest thing... Miu: I hate him doing that, so I always try to act all happy and stuff. Takuma: I had no idea... Miu: Well, it sounds like the spirit power thing isn't helping, but that's fine. Miu: It feels way safer than acting like regular old me.
We'll get to Miu's Stalker later but I do want to talk about how even in this scene Miu isn't being entirety honest with Takuma.
While Miu does hate Kaito's overbearing and overprotective attitude, Miu also cares for him a lot. And what Miu also wants, other than Kaito to stop treating her like she can't do anything, is for Kaito to be able to rest. Because she knows that Kaito does not take care of himself nearly as much as he should.
Takuma: It just shows how much he cares for you, Miu. Miu: I know that! I Just wish he wouldn't be so focused on me all the time. Miu: I don't know what's going to become of him. Takuma: You're right, he is going to have to give you some more space at some point. Miu: Yeah, see? I'm grateful to him and all... Miu: ...but I don't want him using me as an excuse not to have a girlfriend. That'd be gross! Dracmon: Ha ha, I can see it spiraling into that if left unchecked. Takuma: Sounds like you worry about him in your own way, Miu. Miu: Well, of course. We're family. I'd hate to think what might happen if things went wrong.
I'll talk about the Shininiome Siblings in more detail in a bit, but my point is Miu finds it hard to be honest and finds it even harder to trust people to be honest.
Takuma: It's hard to believe, yeah. No telling what real intentions lie behind someone's words. Takuma: There's a possibility you can't accept their words at face value. Miu: Yeah, some people apologize after the fact, even though they're not sorry at all.
Miu, unfortunately, has a lot of experience with people who are dishonest, and even more experience with people who don't think she's telling the truth.
Miu: (I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't even do anything to lead him on or whatever) Miu: (That stalker jerk's the worst. He says we're dating, even after getting arrested.) Miu: (Dating? Talk about delusional...And yet, it seems like my parents kind of believed him.) Miu: (They look at me like I did something wrong, and even Kaito is clingier than usual.) Miu: (My parents, my brother...in the end, no one in my family believed me.) Miu: (This isn't just some jaunt to the countryside...This is exile.) Miu: (I hate it...I hate everyone...I can't take it anymore...)
Miu feels suffocated, she feels like she's being punished for something that isn't even her fault and it gets worse when she goes to school, where she's ostracized and bullied.
So Miu refuses to let anyone close. Not even her brother who's going through his own problems and Miu is, understandably, both angry at her brother for being so protective and patronizing, and scared that Kaito will get hurt because of Her Problems, and she doesn't want that. They already had to move because of her stalker, if Kaito got hurt because of her...
???: I'm a burden to my family...If it hadn't been for me... we wouldn't have moved... ???: My parents wouldn't treat me like some kind of disease...I wish I could just disappear! Miu: How? How can you know what I'm thinking?!
These feelings (and the failure to properly address them) are ultimately what lead to Miu's death. Miu doesn't want to abandon one child that might still be in the park even if the fog is getting thicker. Because she's the queen, she needs to take responsibility. Notably what Miu is doing is something Kaito does a lot, which is do something that puts them at danger if it means someone they care about doesn't get hurt. When Kaito tries to stop her Miu goes anyway and Kaito realizes that this must be how she feels. But it's still Really Dangerous for Miu to be off on her own so they go after her, but there too late. Miu was deceived by a Kenzoku that grabs her before anyone reach her.
Unlike Saki, whose death was caused by something everyone could see coming, who chose to die to save everyone. Miu dies suddenly, without anyone around to help her, because she wanted to save someone who was tricking her.
Her last words is her brother's name. Miu knew that if anyone could of saved her, it would be him. The Shinonome Siblings
So, the relationship of the Siblings is basically its own character so it's getting it's own section. The Shinonome siblings relationship is tense, there's always this undercurrent of uncertainty, where your not sure if either of them really care about each other. Does Kaito really care about Miu or is it just an excuse for his violent impulses? Does Miu really care about Kaito or does she really hate him like she says she does?
Miu's stalker and the subsequent fallout is always haunting them, Kaito is always scared that something like that will happen to Miu and that he will fail to protect her again so he focuses so much on Miu that his life isn't as important as compared to her. And while Miu wants to move on she's still heavily affected by it and it influences how Miu sees herself and how everyone else interacts with her.
They are alone together. It's Kaito and Miu against the world, except they can't properly understand each other either. Kaito is trying but can never do enough to help Miu because he doesn't understand what Miu really wants and Miu genuinely appreciates and cares about Kaito but Kaito is never sure that Miu really does like him. Leading to miscommunication and harm even though they really do care for each other.
There arcs are also intrinsically tied to each other. Miu's growth as a person is shown through her relationship with Kaito and vice versa. There relationship getting better also means that them as individuals are growing and recovering.
So...what happens to the other if one of them dies? Kaito Shinonome
Kaito Shinonome loves and cares about his sister. This is an undisputed fact. Kaito cares a lot about his sister and will hurt people if it means she gets to be happy and live a good life. It's obvious from when you first meet him that Kaito really really wants his sister to be safe and okay. To the point where he's overbearing, overprotective and patronizing to Miu, Kaito treats Miu like she can't do anything for herself, even describing her as "frail" and like "timid, needing protection" when you first meet him, with Takuma even saying that it doesn't seem like an accurate description.
Kaito isn't the greatest brother in the world and he knows this. He calls his shadow self out on treating Miu like she's defenseless in moral, he tells Aoi at the end of Wrathful that he constantly makes mistakes, he gets self-conscious whenever Takuma or the others compliment him, and his affinity goes up when you call him out on his bad behavior because he really wants to stop hurting Miu.
Takuma: You act like her dad. Kaito: ... Takuma: I think Miu finds it annoying. You're always in her business. Kaito: You're totally right about that.
Kaito doesn't like hurting Miu, and while he tries to improve for her sake it seems like he's never able to do enough. It feels like he's stuck falling back into his destructive impulses and his overprotective attitude no matter how hard he tries.
But, Kaito can't help but worry. What happens if something like the stalker incident happens again? What if Kaito isn't there to protect her this time? What if he is but he's too weak to do anything? It's an understandable fear, especially since it happened when the two of them were even younger than they are now. Kaito is terrified, of not being good enough to save Miu, terrified that if he takes his eyes off her something bad will happen again, terrified that when the time comes, he'll hesitate, and something bad will happen to her. Just like before. Right before Miu's death, Kaito and Miu were arguing in the gym about Miyuki, then the conversation changes topic to Kaito's over protectiveness, Miu's weak he says, that she needs him to protect her, and he always be there to protect him. Miu shouts back, saying that she is stronger now, that she can stand on her own two feet. That really Kaito is the one that's weak, that's he's really relying on her.
Overwhelmed by his emotions and Miu having hit a point of insecurity, Kaito slaps her. He's immediately horrified, why did he do that? Miu says that it's because he's using her as an excuse to vent his anger. Is that true? Is that what Kaito is really doing?
He's not, the other routes prove it. But in Harmony, Kaito's worst fear happens, Miu dies, and Kaito couldn't do anything but watch, or could he?
Kaito: I hesitated to jump into the fog...Why did I do that? Kaito: Takuma made it back, so Miu could've done the same. Kaito: But my legs froze for just a moment... Kaito: It's just like Miu said...I wasn't thinking about protecting her at all... Kaito: Did I just wanna swing my fists...? Vent my frustrations, high on my own strength?
This is Kaito's version of "I let go of Saki" except unlike Wrathful where Aoi distorts what really happened, Kaito builds off what did happen. Miu Did say Kaito was didn't actually want to protect her, Kaito's legs Did freeze during her death. Takuma was able to come back from the Fog. Meaning Miu could of been saved and Kaito failed.
Like how Aoi's identity is built on taking care of everyone and gets shattered when Saki dies, Kaito's self-worth, is built on protecting Miu. Any progress in his development he's made before this vanishes because Miu is dead. So much of his identity revolves around protecting Miu that Kaito puts himself in Danger to protect her. After he's able to move again he tries to run Into The Fog even though he knows that Miu is dead because he cannot accept it.
Kaito: Why did Miu, of all people, have to suffer for all this? Kaito: If none of us are to blame, and she's not to blame, then why's she the one that had to go? Kaito: You can't just brush this off with some empty words! I bet you don't even care!
Kaito, like Miu, is very used to not trusting anyone . Why would he? Kaito and Miu have been alone for so long with no one who cared enough to support them, he can't accept Takuma and the others really care because if they did then why are they trying to move on so quickly? Why are they treating her like a memory? Why are they leaving her behind so easily?
Like how Aoi will always find a way to lead it back to how it's her fault, Kaito will always lead it back to how everyone, including him, failed her.
Illusion Miu: You always said you'd protect me, Kaito. You promised to keep me safe. Illusion Miu: So why? Why did you turn your back on me? Kaito: I didn't! I swear! I'd never turn my back on you! I did everything I could to save you!!! Illusion Miu: That's a lie... Illusion Miu: A lie! And you're a liar! Liar, liar, LIAR!!! Illusion Miu: I saw you hesitate. You hesitated, instead of jumping into that fog after me! Kaito: What?! Illusion Miu: I was being devoured by that fog! And you hesitated! Illusion Miu: All you cared about is yourself! That's why you left me to die!
This is very far from the truth, Kaito for one Did try to jump into the fog before Takuma stopped him on the grounds that he would die. Kaito also showed such a concerning amount of lack of self-preservation that even Miu herself was worried that Kaito was going to get himself into trouble for her one day. But, Kaito doesn't just blame himself.
Kaito: (She was afraid of others. What happened with the stalker left her scarred.) Kaito: (She fought back against their teasing because she was scared. They wouldn't stop.) Kaito: (Was it her fault? She never asked to be stalked.) Kaito: (Why does everything bad get dumped on her?) Kaito: (I have to protect Miu) Kaito: (No one else will, they'll just hurt her)
Why would a fair world let Miu suffer as much as she did? Why would a good world hurt someone like her? Why would a world worth living let her die like that?
Kaito wants revenge, and he's willing to pay any price for it.
Dracmon is Survive's Best Big Brother. He's always a delight when he's on screen and his relationship with Kaito is one of the best in the game, with Dracmon really feeling like Kaito's big brother in a way.
However in Harmony Kaito is verbally abusive towards him. If Dracmon was better, more powerful, maybe Miu could of survived. Dracmon even agrees that he is somewhat at fault for not being strong enough. Kaito says sorry right before Piedmon appears, saying he was the one who was weak not Dracmon.
But working off Survive Partner Reflections, Dracmon represents a part of Kaito. A part that, after Miu's death, he considers weak. Dracmon is always pointing out the flaws in Kaito's logic, that this is a trap, that Miu wouldn't of wanted this, that Kaito isn't acting reasonably. He tries his best to reason with Kaito, to stop him from doing something he can't take back. But Kaito won't budge.
Kaito: You understand what I want better than anyone else in the world. Dracmon: I understand...that your heart is burning with pure darkness. Dracmon: But I can tell you're serious. Dracmon: All right, then. I'll abide by your decision. Piedmon: As it should be, Rrgh! Piedmon: Now go on, imagine it...Fill your mind with hatred towards the world, with revenge! Dracmon: Kaito... Kaito: What? Dracmon: You and me... Dracmon: We were like brothers, weren't we? Kaito: ... Kaito: Yeah, we were. Thank you.
Kaito, literally, sacrifices a part of himself for revenge. Dracmon fuses with Piedmon to create Boltboutamon After that, he beats up the group, badly, and goes down to fight the Master, eventually, after another fight, Kaito goes down, and Takuma offers him a chance to move on.
Takuma: You can't change what you've done. What's past is past. Takuma: But we're still alive. The world hasn't been destroyed yet. Takuma: It's okay, Kaito. I know you'll find a way to move foward again.
--------------------------------
Takuma: Kaito, you're our friend. So don't go and act like you're on your own. Kaito: But...I tried to destroy the entire world! Takuma: And if you every try it again, we'll be sure to knock some sense into you.
This is something that Kaito has not had before. People who are there to support him, people who are there to help him move on and become better. Harmony Kaito is noticeably easier to reason with than Wrathful Aoi, because Harmony Kaito's problem is that he doesn't believe that the people around Miu, including himself. Really cared, and that a world worth living wouldn't of hurt Miu so much.
So when Takuma and the others offer him a second chance, even though he Tried to Destroy The World. It's the ultimate argument against Kaito's logic, that no, there are people who really do care, that there are people who are worth trusting. It's nice, until Boltboutamon comes in, and kills Kaito, The Professor, Haru and Miyuki.
Kaito: You know...being friends...wasn't so bad...
Those are his last words, it's too late for him, like it was for Aoi. I'd talk more about the ending of Harmony but it's a bit disconnected from the siblings. The most they do is help hold back Boltboutamon so that everyone else can finish them off.
The world of Harmony is more peaceful than Wrathful's, but it's still in turmoil. So the gang is now part of the Institute that is trying to help and protect kids who have found there partners. Trying to help keep order in a new world.
Ending notes: I was going to add a part about how Wrathful and Harmony are parallels but this is long and I'm already posting this late so...maybe I'll add it to Moral's part This made me love Harmony more, I thought it was fine before but this really made me think about it more...still don't think its as good as moral or wrathful but it's pretty good.
I love the Shinonome Siblings so bad ough...there so great...love them so much....

I finished my first playthrough of Digimon Survive (Moral Route)! Some not-plot-specific rambling under the cut, but still spoilery if you haven't played the game at all:
Re: The moral route, I really liked it! The only things I wish I could have done better (and I’m a little mad at myself for not doing) is actually unlocking Labramon or Dracmon’s Mega evolutions (I made too many mistakes early on with Aoi and Kaito's affinity points. I had been trying to play naturally and not minding if I didn't pick the “right” answers for the first several parts of the game, but I gave that up around part 6 because I wanted to be better friends with Saki, and I HAD to continue being BFFs with Minoru and Miu!). I did get Floramon, Syakomon, and Falcomon's Megas though! I love all of those cutscenes so much dfasdfasjghaskdfha
I'm also a little mad at myself for being two points shy on Wrathful to unlock all three "regular" endings on my first playthrough. I was SO CLOSE!! I just thought I needed to keep the points even-ish, I didn't know until I looked it up that there was an actual numerical threshold. I feel like not doing that complicates my desire to play as efficiently as possible. Right now I have a save in Part 7 that I could go back to to bump up my Wrathful score, then play through Harmony and Wrathful from Part 8... but I may have slightly spoiled myself on those two routes and now I'm not even sure I want to play them, because OOF. But since recruited digimon and evolutions carry over between game and new game+, it does make sense to keep playing on the same file, regardless of which route I choose to do. I will also say that I am so INTENSELY curious about all of Labramon's Megas because her line from Rookie to Ultimate is SO INTERESTING (also I may have spoiled myself on one or two of those Megas, they are thematic AS HECK and I REALLY want to understand exactly how we get there character-wise for at least one of them. The mythology and symbolism and implications for Aoi as a character have me REELING... but playing that route... OOF!).
Right now, I'm really tempted to just do NG+ and go for the Truthful route, but I think if I do I will be even less likely to go back to Wrathful and Harmony. Technically I already started NG+, but I've only finished the prologue. Can you have all four endings unlocked at the branching point on your second playthrough, or once Certain Things happen, are you fully committed to Truthful? Anyway. I don't want to play the game all the way through four times to unlock all the things is what I'm saying, but I acknowledge it might be unavoidable.
I also kind of want to participate in Survive Week, which starts on January 27th, I think? I honestly don't know how that's going to happen for me personally, because so much of my spare time is still going toward playing the game, so maybe I just need to give that up as a goal and just enjoy finishing my playthroughs and creating art on my own schedule. I already have an idea for a specific piece that I want to make SO BAD, but I also really want to take my time with it and fully understand the things I am assuming about character arcs before diving in (but I will say, "Pair of Sad Digigirls with Flower Symbolism" is apparently a theme I like to explore in my art these days, who knew that would become a theme?) . I also want to draw a bunch of Minorus being goofy. And Miu!!!! Honestly, all my top favorites. This group of kids and their partners ended up being pretty great, and even though I do have some minor criticisms of the game itself (pacing, difficulty curves, translation, the nature of choice in visual novels), I really love how much it has made me think about platonic soulmates. Survive been a great ride thus far, some wonderful character exploration through psychological horror, and the Moral Route did end up warming my heart so much :D

Monster Replays the Truthful Route: Part 2
Just realized that the end of this month marks the anniversary of Digimon Survive's release, so I wanna finish this playthrough just in time!
Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Digimon Survive. Viewer discretion is advised.
Thoughts:
Professor 🥺🥺🥺
Weird glitch I noticed: When someone's talking, sometimes the voice over doesn't play, and then they 'talk' in sync with the next characters lip flaps. It usually happens whenever somebody's talking to Takuma.
Ryo: Is your brain broken or something?
There are multiple different people in my life that this quote describes.
I love that humans are considered to be myths in the Kemonogami World, while the Kemonogami are considered myths in the Human World. They are parallel worlds fr fr.
Agumon in this conversation is a whole mood.
Agumon: Heh heh! Yeah, I'm amazing! I guess?
No, Agumon. No "I guess." You are amazing!
Miyuki 🥺🥺🥺
While writing this post, my phone died, and a good chunk was deleted because of it. So there's probably gonna be an odd skip between the beginning of Part 2 to the middle of it.
Labramon: You're drooling, Agumon! That's disgusting...
Falcomon: And yet you're drooling too, Labramon.
Fun fact: Non-playable Dracmons make li'l puppy noises.
This is probably the only playthrough where I don't have Minoru with the highest affinity in the first few chapters.
Ryo: The past two days almost killed me!
And if I don't raise my affinity with you soon, you'll really get killed.
Relationship goals: Being brothers in arms with your talking bird friend
I don't like how high my Harmony karma is...
RIP in Paildramons, Professor Digimon Survive 😔😔😔
I also don't like how they use 'all right' instead of alright.
Minoru and Falcomon 🥺🥺🥺
I find it interesting how Diatrymon is like, "What is this!?" when he first evolves.
For this battle, I decided to go Perfect level instead of straight to Mega, with the exception of MetalSeadramon. I just started feeling nostalgic for them.
Agumon: What's he mean, "friendly ones"?
Falcomon: The allies, who are nice to everyone.
Labramon: I'm Aoi's friendly one! I'm nice to her!
Gomamoooon!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Tumblr media
Falcomon: I'll be your wingman!
More like you'll be his wingmon, but okay.
Decided to go Champion level this time around.
Saki: There's no way you guys can know me! We just met, didn't we?!
Floramon: I know everything about you, Saki!
Saki: Really? Amazing!
I don't know why, I find this kinda amusing.
Jealous much, Floramon?
Shuuji: AAAAUGH!
The game: Exploration time! Everything is fine! :D
Agumon: That's Floramon, and Lopmon!
Takuma: You know them?
Agumon: Nope, first time I've ever seen 'em! Nice to meet you!
Agumon 🥺🥺🥺
Can't believe they killed off Professor Digimon Survive twice in the same chapter 😔😔😔
Fangmon: I was after that little one, but my hand slipped.
You call those hands?
Aoi and Labramon 🥺🥺🥺
In all seriousness, though, the Professor's "death" feels very tragic. WhiIe it's obvious from previous playthroughs that he's not really dead, the group's reaction to it, as well as the music playing in the background, really make it hit hard for me.
The same goes for Fangmon's death as well. While it's true that he was meant to be a bad guy who straight up tried to kill the Survive gang, the way his death played out just felt gruesome, even if no actual gore was shown.
Or maybe I'm just a big wuss.
This post took me hours to make. I wish I was joking. It's 11:59 PM as I'm typing this.
Anyways, tune in next time to see me 🥺🥺🥺 at more characters!

Digimon Survive Part 6 summed up.
But seriously, while I'm glad he came around in the end, Minoru's behavior for the first half of the chapter really dragged it down, IMO. Everyone else's reactions to what transpired with Shuuchi and Wendigomon fit their characters: Takuma and Miu didn't let it shake their trust in their partner Digimon, Aoi started distrusting herself and worrying if she might bring harm to Labramon, Saki tried to deny her fear and be all Fake Nice toward Floramon (until she realized doing so might negatively affect Floramon since her love for her partner is stronger than her fear of something going wrong with their bond), and Kaito, upon grasping that there is a conditional factor to he and Dracmon's bond, started treating Dracmon as an ally of mutual convenience whom he'd be fine fighting if it ever came to it rather than a friend whom he'd be devastated to fight. I honestly wouldn't have expected anything different from them.
Minoru, otoh? I get that he's a coward and not too bright, but his reaction was just utter nonsense even for him, and I was legit frustrated that the game didn't give you the option to really push back on his lack of logic the way you should be able to. His take is seriously that Digimon, including his partner Falcomon, can't be trusted because they might just be pretending to be nice to their human partners while plotting to betray them later on? Yeah, one problem with that: it's not remotely what happened with Shuuchi and Wendigomon. Lopmon didn't just "betray" Shuuchi out of the blue; Shuuchi, after a long period of verbal and emotional abuse toward him, began physically abusing him in order to force an evolution to something powerful, something that could destroy all his perceived enemies and remedy his own self-loathing. It was pretty fucking obvious that Wendigomon went out of control because of Shuuchi and not by his own free will. Shuuchi was the real monster in that whole scenario, not Lopmon / Wendigomon, and yet Minoru's acting like Shuuchi was an innocent victim.
Since Shuuchi doesn't die in the Truthful Route, this chapter will probably unfold in a better way when I get to it there. As it stands, it's my least favorite in the game. Fuck off, Minoru.

👀 *ominously looms behind you*
Talk to us about Kaito in Harmony and Wrathful.
I genuinely cannot remember what I've posted and what I've simply ranted aggressively about in friends' dms so I guess I have no choice but to share every single thought I have about Kaito oh nooooo
In case anyone is new here and doesn't know how I work
You are not going to see an unbiased character analysis
You're about to see an unhinged rant about how goddamn obsessed I am with this character and why I love him!
Starting with Harmony!
As always, I love Kaito in this route. I think what made it so painful for me on a first playthrough was seeing so clearly all the little ways he pushed into becoming the villain when all he really needed was time to grieve. The other kids' absurdly insensitive speech that never fails to piss me off about how they couldn't stay sad and how they had keep going or Miu would've died for nothing really just served to solidify for him that no one cared about Miu after all. It always stood out to me that immediately following that scene he says "if none of us are to blame, and she's not to blame, then why's she the one that had to go?" He didn't start out blaming the others for what happened, and he was more sad than he was angry. But then the fiasco with Renamon and the library happened. They put the idea of revenge in his head. It was the illusions that turned him angry and spiteful. This one's more personal interpretation but I don't think his friends forgiving and siding with the monster that just did all that to him helped a lot with all the feelings of being alone and uncared for. Like genuinely based on the correct affinity option with him earlier he just wanted some time and space to himself to process his feelings and if he'd gotten it he probably would've been fine, it was other outside forces who made him fixate on how awful the world is.
At least for me, it was hard to really be upset with him when he was just,,,a grieving child being manipulated after losing his entire reason for living. I was just depressed the whole time.
On a first playthrough I incorrectly claimed that you don't learn anything new about him in Harmony because he acted too predictably. I would like to punch past me in the face for being so incorrect. I mean I was totally right about him acting super predictably but not about you not learning anything about him.
First, I like that learning about the sibs' past explains why he's so overprotective of Miu, why he's so distrustful, and why he thinks he has to do everything alone and can't rely on anyone's help. None of his overreactions really feel like overreactions after that imo. It's all like..."oooooh that's why he did that okay."
I like that you get to hear the other kids' thoughts about him. Cuz most of the time, Kaito doesn't really have an obvious important role in the group, y'know? He's not one of the older kids, he's not one of the younger kids, he's not a leader, he's not a caretaker, he's nobody's best friend, he doesn't exactly lighten the mood, he's just...there. But then the others talk about him and it's like oh, he's reliable, he's strong, he's sweet, he's someone to look up to, he's the kinda person who makes you feel more confident when they're around, he's someone willing to say and do the things no one else will. He does help, and they do all care a lot about him.
Mostly I think it's interesting to compare him at his absolute worst with the other characters at their worst. The other characters themselves worried that he would end up just like Shuuji because of his anger, but he never did. In fact he never even came close. He explicitly says that he blames himself and not Dracmon for being too weak to save Miu. He doesn't force but instead asks Dracmon to do the whole fusion thing. He may have been enough of a dick to make such a messed up request but by god at least it was a request. He never turns on his partner or hurts him, and he makes it very clear that he does care about him. So like him at his worst is still comparatively not as bad. From there admittedly he does really go off the rails for a bit with all the attempted murder and whatnot which I will circle back around to, but then afterwards he just? Stops? Like again compare that to Aoi being given a chance to chill tf out but instead doubling down on the murder, he actually does come to his senses and try to help. This is the part where I clarify I'm not saying any of this to be mean to Shuuji or Aoi I just mean I think it says a lot about Kaito that compared to the older kids at their worst, he at his worst isn't that bad. Like he was ultimately still someone who loved his partner and chose to listen to his friends.
Also here is a good part to copy paste something that IS from a rant in a friend's dms
the fact that right before dying Kaito isn't even like don't hurt my friends he's like I can't let Dracmon suffer for my mistakes anymore is so *head in hands* he really does love Dracmon as much as Dracmon loves him even if he was too blinded by rage and grief to realize it sooner
This route is solely responsible for how mentally ill I am about those two. The brothers ever.
I know another thing I've said before is that one of my absolute favorite things about Kaito as a character is that he has no problems acknowledging when he's wrong and owning up to his own mistakes, and this route really really shows that. Like I said before him very explicitly not blaming Dracmon for anything is very near and dear to my heart, and I do think it says a lot that him getting angry with the other kids for not saving Miu is a) the only time you ever really see him blaming someone else for his problems b) something that he doesn't even think at first and c) something he doesn't still believe in the end. It is simply not in his nature to place blame on other people, but is in his nature to admit when he screws up. The fact that again he's able to do that at his lowest point is just uuuuuuuugh I love him so much. World's goodest boy.
Circling back to the murdery doo. Maybe I'm just biased but once again I ain't even mad that he got to that point like his sister JUST died I think he's allowed to be as insane as he wants. Any normal person would lose it over having their sibling taken from them in such a gruesome way, but considering how she was like,,,his entire reason for being and the center of his whole world, honestly did he not deserve to exact vengeance on the universe at that point? He literally had nothing left to lose. Especially after the way the other kids treated him like deadass if someone had said all that shit to me after my brother died you can bet I woulda killed them right then and there I'm telling you Kaito is a MUCH better person than I am, he consistently lasts so much longer before hitting a breaking point than I ever could. He could've been so mcuh worse and I still woulda supported him like yeah go baby go get their asses make them all suffer <3 The fact that he WASN'T worse makes him unbearably endearing and adorable to me. My pookie.
I also. Have so many questions about him going around just fist fighting a bunch of Kemonogami himself. Dracmon wasn't even helping he was just 👊 it kinda makes Takuma thinking a Gotsumon would kill him in the early chapters seem like some real pussy shit ksjdkdnd
When he's not being a total loser, Kaito is actually like,,,kinda cool.
This isn't about Kaito but since I'm already talking Harmony can I take a moment to say how hilarious Piedmon is to me in this route? Obsessed with how at the end he's like oh no this wasn't part of some master plan I was legitimately okay with dying and just destroying the world with you but thanks for wimping out and giving me my consciousness back <3 He legit put his whole ass life in the hands of a pissed off child and that's SO funny to me. Like he and Kaito were legitimately in the same "I just wanna blow up the world no matter the cost" boat so it's kinda fitting that they were at least temporarily partners XD
Sometimes you gotta share a braincell with a murder clown
Anyways, Wrathful now
God Kaito is cute in this route.
He's so so so so so cute.
World's cutest boy.
I'm not gonna go into detail cuz I'm certain I've said it before but he's so goddamn sweet and empathetic in this route. Him being so worried about Aoi because he knows how he'd feel if Miu died instead of Saki is so ToT </3 We love a boy who would actually treat someone how he'd want to be treated
I've definitely said it before but I'm so insane about Wrathful being the first time Kaito really acknowledges that he's self-aware of his poor communication skills. Him blaming himself for making Aoi worse because he accidentally made her sad when he was trying to cheer her up. Him choosing NOT to go after her alone because he knew he'd make it worse. Normally he's good at acting unfazed and like he doesn't care how people interpret him, but now that he's accidentally hurt someone he actually shows how bothered he is by his inability to correctly say what he means. It's not that he doesn't know that he's like this, or that he's mean on purpose, he's just reeeeeaaaally bad with words :(
I do kinda love how in Harmony Saki mentions that she actually appreciated his willingness to say what no one else will, and in Wrathful he's the one to be like look guys I don't like it either but we have to consider that we might have to kill our friend. He was the one who wanted to save Aoi the most! Even Miu gave up on her before he did! But he was still willing to face the facts and even offer to kill her himself if no one else could do it. Like do you understand how insane it is that a 14 year old child was willing to make the decision to end someone's life alone so no one but him would have to live with that haunting them. I mean the others didn't let him go through it alone and I love them for that but CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE WAS WILLING TO BEAR THAT BURDEN FOR THEM DESPITE, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, BEING THE ONE WHO WANTED TO SAVE AOI THE MOST.
THIS FERAL GREMLIN CAN FIT SO MUCH LOVE IN HIM
Speaking of fitting so much love in him, him being so unexpectedly gentle when Aoi and Labramon were dying was *bangs my head into the wall* I can't stand him.
Kissing his forehead as we speak.
Also also speaking of that whole scene in general can we talk about how insane he is for tanking a hit from a mega when Piedmon attacked Miu? He AND the Professor both should be DEAD from pulling that kinda crap all the time ToT
Ummm I love that the botched dinner scene shows him being a) very silly and b) more polite than Takuma. What a bastard older sibling move it was tryna make Miu eat the food he didn't want 😂😂😂 He's so fucking funny. The politeness going completely out the window the second there's no need to keep up the act god bless. Menace to society fr fr.
Idk Harmony Kaito doing exactly what Kaito himself admits he would do in Wrathful is so <3 world's most self-aware boy
Vs Wrathful Kaito doing exactly what Saki said she liked about him in Harmony ;u; If she was there she would've been proud. Actually come to think of it she also said she appreciated the way he'd always put himself between them and the enemy so in Harmony he literally,,,died doing the OTHER thing she said she liked about him.
Did not expect to name drop Saki so many times in this but she's surprisingly a professional Kaito appreciator.
ALSO CIRCLING BACK TO ME LOVING KAITO FOR ALWAYS ADMITTING WHEN HE'S WRONG, I LOVE HIM BEING THE ONE TO TELL SOMEONE ELSE THAT THEY'RE ALLOWED TO MESS UP TOO. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH IT HURTS.
WRAHTUFL KAITO SAYING HE MESSES UP A LOT BUT IT'S OKAY BC HIS FRIENDS ALWAYS SET HIM STRAIGHT VS HARMONY KAITO BEIN A LIL EVIL BUT CALMING DOWN ONCE HIS FRIENDS SET HIM STRAIGHT <3
He is nothing if not consistent. World's 👏 most 👏 self 👏 aware 👏 boy.
Oh and ofc I can't go without saying Kaito's conversation with Miu in Wrathful about beating a cop up ✨️gently✨️ is peak Kaito humor. He was so cool for that btw man acab. Miu sounding so tired like he does this shit all the time 😭😭😭
Just had the very funny mental of image of a conversation like,,, "Are you amab or afab?" "Acab."
It is always morally correct to harm the police <3
Anyway uhhh in summation
I support Kaito’s rights but I also support Kaito's wrongs and I think he's the cutest boy in the whole wide world :)

It's so nice to finally be able to play Digimon Survive! However having finished up to part 3 I gotta say maybe they should have made this an October release because the spooky mystery vibes are really good!
Random spoiler thoughts below! You've been warned ~
So far I've have the most affinity with Minoru and I would definitely call him my favorite so far (which I was not expecting at all) His dynamic with Falcomon is interesting considering what they are trying to do with the digimon this time around. The relationship (in terms of what they're doing for his character) isn't as obvious I think as some of the others... at least to me >>
Shuuji I didn't like before the game came out because he looked to plain and he got my fave Lopmon but I sort of liked him at the intro and then immediately disliked him again when he was reintroduced with Lopmon. That is my fave and he's one of those that is obvious what they're doing with the "whole digimon are an extension of the character and how they treat them is representative of how they treat themselves thing" like I'm sure they'll be a reveal that will make me like him but at the moment it's hard to not want to throw hands.
The rest of the cast is kind of there so far. I liked Aoi already based on design and digimon and same for Saki but they haven't done much to make me like them past that. (Saki has the misfortune of Veggiemon tho I really hope her next mons are better). They also both got really awkward "my digimon is evolving" moments and idk If that's due to my affinity with them or if that's the writing but those were clunky. Better than Kaito who didn't get one his Dracmon can just digivolve? Which was great for the level but kind of weird outside of that.
Getting the extra digimon isn't to enticing so far since the slots are limited and it doesn't make much sense to not use the story relevant characters but I'm glad I did because their was one fight so far that took away most of the cast and I imagine it might happen more often. So I'll make sure to train those guys up I guess.
Lastly I completely forgot it was mentioned that one of the characters was a guaranteed death for the first playthrough and is it always the same character??? I feel like it must always be that character because how much can you do with them? It was definitely a shocking experience because I was expecting his "let's digivolve" moment only to be met with ~The Fog~
I cannot wait to continue tomorrow!

That would either be the best or worse thing to happen to the TADC crew. But, which way?
A: The crew, who if you go by a long running theory, once worked at the C&A company to develop the digital circus game—stumble upon the digimon while in the beta stages? Maybe to cut corners the CEOs decided to integrate the “AIs” into the games programming. This could have so many implications as it allows a hidden access point to the Digital World! Let’s face it. If a Digimon can come through a random portal, then they can come through a computer that uses their code. Anyway, would the Digimon simply be hidden in the game files or…?
B: The TADC crew were tamers before they got trapped in the Amazing Digital Circus and their partners are only now finding them. It would be such a heartbreaking thing if this included the ones who have Abstracted. This could lead them on an “Adventure” to figure out how to fix those who have devolved into amalgamations of their coding. The Digimon would be horrified at their human partners being trapped there.
C: Digimon find their way to the Digital Circus because the computer the game is on is running non-stop. Which invites a whole slew of interactions between the cast and the Digimon. Meanwhile, Caine might be subtly panicking since these are not NPCs he made nor does the coding read as typical AI programs like him… At least his dear Players seem to enjoy having new people(?) around. Even if Jax and that Dracmon are causing fifty percent more shenanigans!
The Digimon paired up to the circus troupe:
Jax and Dracmon/Impmon (willing to commit to the bit for pranks more than a Gazimon.)
Kinger and Kokuwamon. (Similar to how Kinger sometimes spasms out and doesn’t realize what’s around him. Kokuwamon accidentally shocks its surroundings yet is still very friendly.)
[I was very tempted to try to fit him with an “older” digimon stage.]
Gaggle and Gabumon? (Without it’s pelt, the species are actually very timid. So you could theoretically take it away like how her mask always gets broken somehow. Cosplay?)
Zooble and Terriermon. (What it’s based off of is still a mystery, fits with Zooble having those interchangeable limbs of theirs. Both of them don’t get bothered by things in different ways.)
Ragatha and Salamon. (…It reminds me of a Beanie Baby and there aren’t a lot of caring digimon who are at the rookie level).
Pomni and… Wormon. (Pomni always seems to find bugs—the unfinished “escape” door Caine made and glitching through the map. Plus, Wormon seem to always find partners who are good at manipulating the digital space.)
———————————————————————
These are just some ideas. I don’t know if you had a concrete plan for your AU or…
*puts down a box and stands on it*
“The Amazing Digital Circus Digimon AU.”

"Listen, I know what it’s like, to be searching aimlessly, with no idea how to find what you’re looking for. Goin’ ‘round in circles and driving yourself nuts, over ‘n over ‘til you lose track of where you’ve been. Who you’ve met, ‘n… who you are." Dracmon wasn't always by Kaito's side. Which begs the question: part 1 - footprints in the sand Who was he, before the arrival of his other half? part 2 - a winding current And what was he doing, on that fateful day?
Part 1 has been posted! a friend informed me that tumblr dot shit apparently doesn't put your stuff in tags properly if there's an outgoing link in the body of the post, so the ao3 link is in the source!!
again yeah im not posting the fic on here , im not wrestling with format again etc etc etc
so this is a 2-part thing where im going over who dracmon was before kaito, and what he was up to the day they met, and how they eventually found each other.
after seeing all endings, one of the things that stuck out to me the most was that there's like... no rhyme or reason to how much the digimon know about themselves and their world. i LOVE that shit, because i love to go looking for meaning that may not even be there.
in my authors note at the end i talk about how i think its fascinating that agumon knows absolutely fuckall about the history of his world, but he knows SO many digimons names and their personalities. bro why!!! i dont know!!
and then by contrast, falcomon knows a HUGE amount about how kemonogami live and what sets them apart from one another. he doesn't know everything, and certainly not as much as jijimon, but when you look at like... agumon and lopmon, they seem just as clueless as the kids about who they are. theres a scene early on where falcomon's explaining how some digimon are capable of reasoning and others arent. i thought to myself, what makes it so?
that exact line of questioning is responsible for the first half of ocean wave. why do some digimon know more than others? why can't some talk? why do some seem to have such faulty memories? i took all these questions and used dracmon to walk myself through some possibilities.
in like, part 2 or 3 or something, dracmon mentions that he doesnt like how definitely-normal-human-woman-and-not-arukenimon is looking at the kids and says that she looks at them like a predator hunting prey. Bestie Why Do You Know What That Looks Like. so i made up why. stuff like that is soooo much fun!
the second half of ocean wave is entirely inspired by me being mad that everyone got a champion evo sequence except for kaito. like what do you MEAN. did he have a nice evo sequence, it just happened offscreen, or could it be something else? i took the something else route and im really looking forward to not shutting the fuck up about it when i post part 2. also sorry for putting this in the kaito tag when hes not even here yet. but i figure if you like kaito you probably also like dracmon?? anyway
thanks for reading!

From the tone of his voice, I don’t think Dracmon is quite done antagonizing humans. Hiro (and Ruri) were both willing to let it go after an apology, but I’m curious about what’ll happen when they have to destroy an enemy for the first time, or what might happen when they’ll encounter it again.

So. That happened.
[Spoilers under the cut]
I didn't think it would happen that soon. I mean, the fear was there when the Cyclonemon fight started, BUT NOT THAT SOON. GOD. UGH.
I'm actually a little mad at myself lmao even though I know it's literally unavoidable. Still sucks, you know? But I'm also so mad at Ryo himself--like how do you forget your mom passed away? What was going on up there? AND KUNEMON! JEEZ!
I can't recruit Dokugumon for shit, so that's also annoying. Not sure if I'll ever get these damn enhancement stones for my free guys. Kinda wish I could've recruited Tentomon...
Kaito and Dracmon's dynamic is very enjoyable. I thought Dracmon would be a hellion but he's actually like Matt's Gabumon. I love it.
Kinda waiting for the others' deaths at this point. My only point of pride is that I knew right away the strange woman was Arukenimon. My affinities with everyone are screwed, though.
Part 4 is gonna be hell.
