The elevator game || Colby Brock x Reader
Tumblr media
[req by anon] You knew you were sensitive to the other side, but you didn't expect a silly little game from the internet to give you this much of an impact.
warnings: cursing, paranormal activity, reader getting (slightly) attacked by ghosts, sensitive/medium!reader, degrading, angst? still not sure what the meaning of it is tbh
a/n: this is my first request ever, i hope i didn't let you down dear anon. Concept based on this video
word count: 2.5k (not proofread)

"What's up guys, it's Sam and Colby!" Colby screamed towards the camera, as always.
"Today we are here at the Driskill Hotel, also known as the most haunted hotel here in Texas." Sam continues.
"We're here to figure out why this place is so haunted and what message the ghosts here wanna tell the people. And for this video guys, we have a very special someone!" Colby says, moving to the side so that you're visible to the camera.
Waving at it and smiling, you were greeted by Colby's hands wrapped around your shoulders. "Thank you, thank you. Hello, dear people. It is I." They laugh.
"How are you feeling about this? Are you excited?" Sam asks, putting the camera on the both of you.
"I am! The place is HUGE and honestly, just looks so good!"
"Right?? When we got in it was just like a burst of shock at how gorgeous this place is." Sam said and Colby nodded.
"If it weren't haunted I'd probably come here more often, but I can already feel all of these... energies walking around, I wouldn't last too long."
"Oh, right. For anybody that doesn't know, Y/n is actually a bit of medium?" Colby asks while looking at you, making you nod. "Yeah, so she's sensitive to like the energy of shadow figures and things like that, so maybe we'll get to experience something interesting tonight!"
"I'd say hopefully not but that wouldn't make it fun I guess." You laugh and so do they while you explain it is a pain in the ass to feel those things constantly. "It is almost as if you're constantly paranoid about someone looking at you, y'know what I mean?"
"Oh yeah, for sure." Colby noded.
"Yeah so that, but those stares are more physical than anything, there are times where I can feel people walking behind me and when I look back, there's no one."
"I can just imagine how creepy that must feel." Sam said and you chuckled.
"Oh yeah. You have no idea." You smiled.
"Well then, shall we begin the investigation?" Colby asked you, smiling. You quickly smiled back.
"Of course." You kissed him softly before Sam could even turn off the camera.
"Oh, gross man. I'll have to edit that out." He said jokingly and you laughed, rolling your eyes.
"But seriously though, let's keep it moving." You said and they agreed.
Walking around, there were a few pieces of lore they had to explain to you beforehand. About the one and only Driskill who created the hotel, about the little girl that broke her neck, so on and so forth.
There were times when you had this eerie feeling of constantly being followed, so you kept your arms interlocked with Colby's.
"You're doing okay so far?" He asked, cautiously caressing your hand. You nodded.
"Yeah, just feel like we're being followed." You replied, looking back where there was no one there.
"Really??" Sam asked, looking back as well but seeing nothing. "Do you think we caught a ghost's interest?"
"I mean, probably. There is a difference in between someone that's coming just for the hotel part and us, that are investigating and directly needing their intervention. We're making them curious."
"Well, for whatever spirit that might be following us, you're welcome to answer our questions later on tonight." Colby said loud enough for anything around to listen to it.
Honestly, even those small gestures made you so madly in love with him. The way he touches you softly just for you to make sure you're not alone and he's here for you is such a warming feeling.
Wilst looking around the current room, Colby walked up to a random closed door and tried to walk through.
"She said no closed doors!" Sam exclaimed, probably talking about the tour guide's rules of the place.
"Unless it's... unlocked." Colby responded, making Sam roll his eyes.
"Oop, it's Jim Hogg's room." You said, looking up.
"Who's that?" Sam asked.
"I dunno, it says its name on the top." You point up and they just laughed at the comment. I mean, what were they expecting? You had no idea about whatever story roams around these halls asides from the two main ones they've explained.
"Also I don't think you should be trying even more, like if it's hard to go in it's probably because you're not supposed to."
"We have a bad reputation of breaking into places." Sam admitted and you smiled.
"Yeah, I know. I remember that." You chuckle and hold Colby's hand to pull away from the door.
As they kept on chatting and making interesting comments here and there, you found the elevator and pointed it out. "Oh, is this the one?" Colby asked Sam and he just gave him a stare.
"This is the one what?" You ask and they look at eachother.
Sam sighed. "We were going to keep it until the time came, but we may have a little challenge for tonight that has to do with the elevator."
"Ooooh sounds fun. I wanna do it." You smile.
"You sure?? You have to be by yourself." Colby asked, worried but amused.
"Do you think I can't do this, Mr. Brock? That's offensive." You spat, crossing your hands around your chest.
"No! I meant-" He tried to explain, but you quickly interrupted.
"Cancelled, I tell you. Cancelled!" You look away with your eyes closed, trying not to laugh at the stupid situation unfolding.
"Great." You heard him sigh in defeat as Sam started laughing at the both of you. Looking back with a smile on your face, you hugged him.
"Alright, let's get going already." You giggled, gaining a kiss on the top of your head from your boyfriend.
Walking inside the elevator, it almost felt as if it quickly went down in an unnatural way.
"Did you guys feel like... the elevator dropping three inches?"
"Yeah, kinda of." Sam said.
"Three inches is a lot." Colby replied.
"Three inches is huge." Sam continued.
"I can vouch." You said.
"Mass..." Colby began talking but couldn't hold in the laugh after you said that.
Going back to the main lobby, you all reached out to a girl that was apparently the tourguide. She quickly explained the story of the place, how it ended up being the renouned hotel it came to be.
When she explained that the smell of cigar was one of the main ways Driskill manifested, your eyes went wide. "You're kidding."
"No, did you smell it before?" She asked.
"I did! But it was like, close to the entrance so I thought that maybe someone was smoking. I did find it rare because it was just a glimpse of it for like a solid second and then gone." You explained, making the girl smile.
"Well, that was him."
"No way." Colby said, smiling at you.
"Yup." She nodded, continuing to explain as you all started walking back to the elevator. Going inside, the door closed only to be opened again. "Oh?"
"Did we just pressed five and went to one? It's haunted!" Sam exclaimed.
"That was weird." Colby said, looking at the door.
"It was, that was so weird." The guide said, trying to close the door once again, only for it to open again.
"Does it do that often?" You asked and she shook her head.
"No! It doesn't." She walked back out and talked to someone from out side. "Are you fucking with us?"
"That's so strange- oh, I hit it." You whispered. The guide came back in.
"But you see it, right? I'm pressing five and it like start to go up but then it stops." The door closes once again, only for them to open.
"Oh my god." Sam said, whispering.
"And we're doing a challenge here?" You asked confused, making them laugh.
"Not here exactly." Colby smiled.
"Lemme- I'll go out." You said, walking out of the elevator, watching as the doors began to close, only for them to open once again. "Oh no, that's- that's a malfunction alright."
"And you said it, these malfuction all the time." Colby said to the guide as they walked out of the elevator.
When Sam did it by himself, it started working all over again.
"What the fuck??" Colby yelled.
"Are we like fat? Is it fat shaming us?" You whined, making everyone laugh.
And so, even though your night barely started, you were already having some activity to say the least.
And it kept being that way all night. Constant responses from spirits, intelligent ones at that. The little girl, the woman from the vortex room... all the way down to the challenge you've been anticipating the whole night round.
The elevator challenge.
"I think it might be just me but every single time we pass through this side of the hotel I feel like actually throwing up."
"Wait, really?" Colby asked, worried.
"Like an eerie feeling more than anything, almost like I'm kinda feeling a bit dizzy whenever we pass through here."
"Are you sure you want to do this? You can still back out, or I could go in with you." Colby tried to make you change your mind, but you were settled in it.
"No, I have to do it alone. What if it doesn't work because we're together? You're not gonna let me do this right?"
"I do! I'm just worried." Colby admitted, making you smile.
"You cutie. I love you so much." You said, smiling at him and cupping his face before giving him a quick peck on the lips.
"Y'all are gonna make me puke, another part I'm gonna have to cut out." Sam joked, making you giggle.
"Alright, alright. So, how does this work?" You ask, hugging yourself as you wait for instructions.
It was a simple game. Supposedly, you had to hit the buttons of the elevator in a specific order. In the last one, you had to invite in a lady. If the ritual worked, you were supposed to start going up into another world. If it didn't, well, nothing happened and it failed.
"So... I'm about to get isekai'd? We're going to an anime, brothers." You laughed at your own joke while they handed you your camera.
"I send you the order, just in case." Sam continued, and you nodded.
"Thank you, 'cause I already forgot." You turned on your phone as well as the camera and walked in.
"Any last words?" Colby asked cheekishly, making you smile.
"See you in the other side." You answered, before the door closed. You sighed, putting the camera up to your face. "Alright, so... I'm supposed to hit this one first." Switching the camera back to the buttons, you hit the number four.
It began moving. "Oh, good. It would've been a mess if it already fucked up. Alright..." You sighed. "I didn't told them this, but I do find the thought of getting stuck in an elevator horrifying. I just agreed because maybe it might help me out, but it doesn't work the fact that I can feel so many spirits around this area specifically every time we walk past it." You explain before getting on the next floor, touching the next button.
Back down on the lobby, Sam and Colby were talking.
"I didn't want her to do it, honestly. I was gonna do it myself." Sam said.
"Right? She's our guest too, what if something happens to her? That would be the death of me."
"Don't jinx it, brother. She'll be alright."
Boy they were wrong.
Halfway through, your vision started to get blurry, your legs were shaky and you couldn't brush off the feeling of pressure on your chest. It was starting to make you nervous, even more so the fact you were alone.
You started thinking to yourself. What if something really did happen? What if you summon something your body couldn't handle? What if it really did send you to another world?
It happened so quickly, that you have already reached the last floor before you knew it. Gulping down your dry throat, you began to speak. "Alright, if there's something... out... oh fuck." Your vision got blurry and you could feel an inmense ammout of power flushing through the elevator doors even before it opened up.
You couldn't hold it together, it was too much for you to handle as you were suspecting before. Although you tried to stay up, your legs couldn't hold your weight up anymore and you passed out, falling down to the floor, hitting your head strongly onto the hard floor of the elevator.
Luckily, the ritual didn't work. It began going down and the guys, mainly Colby, were anxiously waiting for the doors to open. When they did, their faces fell.
Colby screamed out your name, quickly rushing in and holding your head. "Love?? Sweetheart, what happened? Wake up, please. Oh God." He began shaking, carrying you outside of the elevator so that it was slightly more comfortable.
"What happened? Oh my fucking God." Sam whispered, grabbing your camera from the elevator's floor and walking out.
"She's not responding, Sam." Colby nervously said, making sure you were at least still alive.
You were.
"Should I call an ambulance or something?" Sam asked. "Oh, no. I have the keys with me."
"Let's take her to the hospital, quickly." He lifted you up from the floor and hurriedly got out of the building and to the hospital.
You were alright, luckily. It seemes you have just fainted, but you falling down to the floor and hitting your head so hard made it a bit more complicated than what it had to be.
Colby felt bad, horrible even to think that this could've happened to you.
He should've been more careful, he should've known you were too sensitive to all of these energies so that you would go alone and out to make something so nerve racking. He should've been more insisting, rather than going with the flow merely because of a video.
He let his love have that type of experience because of a mere video.
It devastared him. Made him feel absolutely awful about it. While waiting for you to wake up, he kept on downgrading himself thinking about how he's the worst possible boyfriend.
It all stops when you finally wake up. Looking around the white room, confused.
"What happened?"
"It looks like you fainted... I'm so sorry for letting you do that all by yourself, I should've stopped you, I should've at least gone with you, I'm so sorry that you had to go through that because-"
"Love. Love!" You held his cheeks softly, making him quietly stop ranting, you smiled. "You know I wanted to do it, I was the stupid one for forgetting that big energy rafts can affect me a lot, I'm so sorry baby." You kissed his nose, reassuring him everything was alright.
And honestly, he needed to hear it. From you, specifically. Sam was trying to make him calm down but it didn't really work. It had to be you, your voice, your smile.
The one thing that made him whole all over again.

Reflection of Your Image - EB VS SZ Drama Track
Part 2
~ Picking at Old Wounds ~
Tumblr media
【 Chuohku City Gates 】
As the ECO BooN team members approached the gates to Chuohku City, the two oldest team members seemed to grow more and more tense. By the time they had reached the gate, their leader Asato glanced at the two, observing how intensely they looked around the gate's entrance.
Asato: You two… Ready?
In a snap, the two looked down at Asato, quickly making their excuses.
Yano: Y-Yeah! Totally dude!
Kensaku: Yup! But…You don't sound so sure, Yano-kun.
Yano: Shut up! Like you weren't looking around like some paranoid guy!
Kensaku: I'm just taking a look around. I mean, see all the cameras and officers? I've heard about the security here, but this is insane!
Pointing around, the farmer noticed that the man was right. The way things were set up, you'd imagine the group was walking into a high security prison… Only this was a city. The capital even.
Asato: …Why so many defenses?
Yano: Its to keep guys out. We are the only men who get to come in thanks to these passes.
Kensaku: So no secret back doors huh?
At that moment, a few officers looked to the group. Yano seemed to flinch at the movement, but Kensaku was quick to laugh and dismiss it away.
Yano: Don't joke around! You're gonna get us in t-trouble!
Kensaku: "Its fine! Relax… So long as we behave ourselves, we can make it through this, right boys?"
As confident as their little team tried to be, all that could be mustered was from the one man who wasn't antsy about going into the city, Asato. Said man nodded vigorously before he slowly stopped and looked up at the two of them.
Asato: Hey… You two can admit you're scared.
Again, the men went into the defensive.
Kensaku: Scared? Only one scared is Yano obviously.
Yano: Shut up old man!
Back to bickering, the two began to spout insults and jokes back and forth. Tired of his team's shenanigans, Asato stepped forward to show his papers to the officers at the door, causing the other two men to shout and run after the farmer to catch up.
【 Outside Chuohku City Hotel 】
Hisoka: A-Asato-kun?!
As the Toyama team approached the hotel the group was assigned to, the team leader's attention was torn away from his own group to look at a large man in a tracksuit approaching the group.
Asato: …?
Hisoka: U-Uh remember me? I used to have a shaved head… Your grandma let me stay with you two for a few months.
Whilst Asato stared up at the man blankly, the other Toyama team members crowded around their leader to see what had caught Asato in a rare human interaction. Then, realization spread across the farmer's face, his eyes growing wide.
Asato: Tetsumasu-san… You're competing too?
Hisoka: (He remembered me…!) Yeah! I was surprised too. Never thought Chuohku would spot me as Obihiro's best candidate but… Here we are.
As the redhead uttered those words, he suddenly looked back and moved aside to present his own team.
Hisoka: This is my team actually. Daiki Kamiyama and his butler, Jack.
Asato: Nice meeting you all. My name is Asato Rikiya… Tetsumasu-san, your team looks pretty tough.
Hisoka: Thanks! I'd say, having Yano already puts you up in one of the stronger teams.
Yano: Aw thanks old man that I’ve never met!
Hisoka: It's Hisoka! Come on, you forgot me too?!
The atmosphere of the two teams was amicable. Each team member seemed to mesh well, but that suddenly changed when the teenager of the Obihiro team suddenly shouted out at Asato.
Daiki: You! I see you're the hero who saved my master from certain doom! For that, I thank you for giving him a second chance!
Yano: What the…
Jack: Excuse my young master for his behavior. He's rather nervous being here today. This will be his first time performing a song on TV.
Daiki: Jack! Come on, what did I say about shutting down my persona?!
Jack: I'm doing no such thing. In fact, aren't you the one who has dropped the act at this very moment?
Daiki: Only because you're distracting me! Stop bullying me!
Yano: Dang, a chuunibyou huh?
Kensaku: Yano-kun, don't be mean to the kid-
Daiki: Who are you calling a chunnibyo?! I should let you know, I am no child you two can openly mock. I am the hero who crusades the North! Protector of the people, champion of the virtuous, the one, the only-
Swiftly, the butler clasped a gloved hand over the young boy's mouth. The final words of the teen's speech were muffled behind it. At first, the action had seemingly frustrated the boy before he looked shocked, then calm. Slowly, Jack uncovered his mouth to allow him to speak.
Daiki: Forget what I said.
Yano: (How the hell are we supposed to forget that?!)
Kensaku laughed at the group before he looked to his side and noticed another group approaching. With a relaxed smile, the scientist tried to wave at them, only for the leader of the trio to seemingly dismiss him.
Nobuo: Ignore the fool boys. No fan interactions until we get settled in. Now, move out of our way.
Asato's team did as they were told. Looking at this team of tall men, this mysterious group seemed to stride confidently past them, standing on their own level above the two teams. All except for one man, the largest man dressed in a train conductor uniform. His closed eyes seemed to widen at the sight of Hisoka next to Asato, causing for the other two men to freeze up.
Bunko: Iwao? What's wrong?
Iwao: He… That's him.
The posh team all turned their gaze to Hisoka, who seemed to now be pale at the face. Trembling in place, the long-haired man clenched at his chest.
Jack: Mr. Tetsumasu?
Hisoka: I-Its him…
Asato: Tetsumasu-san? Are you-
Whilst the other teams seemed to tense at the arrival of this unidentified new team, said team's leader Nobuo Sone seemed to finally take notice of Asato, and a switch flipped in the man's brain. Completely ignoring the obvious traumatic tension that his 3rd team member and the rival team leader seemed to be experiencing, the actor strides forward, grinning at Asato widely.
Nobuo: Asato?
Confused, Asato points to himself with a gloved finger.
Nobuo: Yes, you. Are you Asato Rikiya?
Asato: …Yes?
Nobuo: Wow! You've grown a lot, haven't you? It's been so long since I've seen you and your little daddy.
Asato: Dad…?
Immediately, Asato's teammates tense up, sidling by the youngest.
Yano: Hey, back off.
Nobuo: What~? Can't a guy say hello to an old friend's kid? Don't be such a stinge, Ietsuna boy.
Yano bristled further.
Yano: Back. Off.
There was a pause, before Nobuo conceded. Hands in the air, the blonde man laughed Yano off nonchalantly.
Nobuo: Fine, fine. I won't bother you three. At least, until your little team makes it up to our level. If you can even manage that. Good luck, Rikiya boy.
With that, the man stepped back and switched his attention to the other team. In the moment, Yano took the time to check with Asato.
Yano: Senpai, are you alright?
Asato: Yeah? But why did he know about my dad? And me too, I guess.
Yano: I-I’m not sure. Guess he knew your family when you were a kid.
While it seemed like Nobuo had altered his sights on Hisoka, Kensaku was the first of the ECO BooN team to notice their own rival had arrived on the scene. Said leader, Ryuko was making quick, aggressive strides toward the still-distracted Asato so Kensaku stepped in between to prevent Ryuko from getting to Asato.
Kensaku: Hey there bud! What are you doing, charging toward my leader here?
Ryuko: What the fuck are you doing getting in my way? Back up, bastard.
Shuu: Ryu-chan!
The little detective sprinted towards the group, quickly jumping on the back of the animator who yelped in surprise.
Ryuko: What the fuck?!
Shuu: Didn't sensei just tell you? No picking fights!
Still piggybacking on Ryuko, Shuu then spotted the youngest person in the gathering crowd. In a shout that again spooked Ryuko, Shuu pointed out.
Shuu: Dai-chan! What are you doing here?!
Daiki: M-Master Shuu?!
Jack: How many mentors do you have, young master…?
Daiki: Don't lecture me! There are lots and lots of people in the world I can learn from. Besides, Master Shuu fights for good! He sniffs out the evil and vanquishes it through his mastery in stealth!
Jack: Dear lord… What sort of things has he put into your head?
Ryuko, struggling to get Shuu off his back, looked to the butler before settling his sight on Hisoka who was getting cornered by Nobuo and… Iwao? Shock spread across Ryuko's face when he recognized the giant man.
Ryuko: Iwao? How are you still alive?
The train conductor broke the staring contest although Hisoka didn't seem to ease up, sweating bullets as Nobuo began mocking the horse breeder. Closing his eyes and trying his best to smile at Ryuko, Iwao greeted him.
Iwao: Friend! I finally get to see you again! Not with Seto-kai, yeah? I can be friends with you again?
Ryuko: H-He said you died. How are you... Did he make you vanish? Why did he-
Iwao: Yes yes! Iwao got in trouble so he had to go. I did almost die but… Mr. Oyabun never had the balls to pull the plug.
Yano: Guys, we should sneak out while we can…
Ryuko: Hey, hey, hey! Just because I'm reconnecting with my brother, doesn't mean your team can fucking sneak out. I have business with you, farmer brat.
Maki: Brother?
Finally, Maki seemed to have caught up, standing next to the two Sazanka Zombeez team members who were tangled together. Soon as they noticed Maki, they detached from each other, Shuu standing at attention to Maki and Ryuko crossing his arms and huffing.
Ryuko: It's nothing. Also good news, I haven't picked a fight.
Shuu: Only because Gramps and I stopped him!
Kensaku: Gramps?
Insulted, Kensaku frowns slightly.
Kensaku: It's rude to say that to a someone you have just met.
Shuu: Oh, did I assume? Sorry, sorry ehehehe~!
Dismissing him, Shuu then looked up to his leader, who was burning holes into Asato. Said targeted man seemed to break from his thoughts to look back, which causes Asato to visibly tense.
Ryuko: Finally got your attention, huh? You piece of shit.
For a moment those words seem to process in Asato's head. Then, the farmer turns and starts walking toward Ryuko. Increasing in speed, it's easy to see that the younger man was going for an offensive greeting and Ryuko now grinning smugly seemed to be stretching out his arms in preparation.
Ryuko: BRING IT ON MOTHER-

Note
took me a min to get to this, i have since watched up thru s3e04!
I totally understand the concern it may become too convoluted/complicated to be enjoyable. to my recollection that *is* what happened with the show LOST and while i didn't personally watch LOST, ik some of the people behind that show also created From. but for now i think the mysteries presented to us do have some direction so i'm going to have faith they'll pull off instead of devolving into kookaburra nonsense!!
as for favorite characters, ooh. ykw i have to give From props on that front, i appreciate that the characters are all pretty well-written. they all have distinct personalities and motives and act accordingly. i feel like you can track the internal logic of most of the characters' decisions within their personal context and perceptions, thus i tend to empathize with them even when i don't agree with said decisions (Sarah as a notable example considering what she did in the first episode, what we learned about both why and Sarah herself since, and where she's at now), or when they're getting on my nerves! So i don't particularly dislike anyone...except Dale. fucking Dale, smdh...urgh i kinda hate Randall too, albeit one of the reasons Randall drives me so crazy is bc as much as i hate to admit it, i know in this situation?? uh, i would low-key *be* Randall. 😬
i wouldn't be as bad, like i wouldn't be going out of my way to piss everybody off and unlike Randall, i'd have the sense of self-preservation to recognize that mouthing off to Donna and/or Boyd is a no-no. you mouth off to Donna and/or Boyd, congrats, you've just rendered yourself alienated and outnumbered by 95% of the population of Fromville. but like, his paranoia?? yup, that'd be me. i would be super paranoid and suspicious of everything, wondering all about candid camera and plants and the possibility of government experimentation, etc. these aren't completely dissimilar to some of the paranoia things i get fixated over on a semi-regular basis. pop me in Fromville and it'd all be cranked up to eleven. 🙃
at least unlike Dale tho, Randall tries to help sometimes. he tried to help when he thought Tabitha was buried under the house, he saved Julie and Ethan in s3e01, tried to help Boyd last episode. Randall will try in earnest too, Dale only ever helps out when Donna makes him and complains the whole damn time, smdh.
the one thing i will critique, going back to characters and motivation and whatnot, uh, THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE HAVING TOWN MEETINGS! i am not the first to point this out, everybody and their brother watching From has been saying this, but c'mon! too much wild shit happens in Fromville for us not to be having town meetings, communicating about our visions and broken glass voices and worms under our skin, etc. 🙄
but faves...for sure Donna! ngl i'd love a roll in the hay or two or ten with Donna. wouldn't mind macking on Kristi either. i also have a soft spot for Jade, he makes me laugh. Tabitha is up there, Tian-Chen is up there, R.I.P Tian-Chen. Fatima and Ellis would be really cool to hang out with and get stoned with. Victor and his backstory are wholly intriguing. Elgin is adorable, i have a soft spot for characters who spend time with their grandparents. Sarah is also so very fascinating to me, i hunger to learn more about her & Nathan's background, and why Fromville voices wanted her to do what she did in s1.
as for theories, well i know a lot of people suspect fairies! and that the Boy In White is some kind of fairy. Tbvh my american ass has only a rudimentary understanding of fairy folklore and this is a great opportunity for me to do more research, so i better understand these theories. atm i know some fans have made very good cases and a lot of solid meta on this but idk enough about faries to put my own two cents in.
however, i think it's worth mentioning that neither Ethan's book, The Flight of The Cromenockle, nor the nursery rhyme Bakta knew that proceeded the arrival of the music box monster actually exist in our world. i think it's little things like this that suggest From is more concerned with its own original mythos and internally based lore. even if heavily inspired by specific folklore/legends/creatures that we understand in our world, i don't think these phenomena will be identical in From. i don't think we're going to name-drop a changeling or a J’Ba Fofi in From, even if some of the creatures are possibly inspired by and/or similar to them.
i do think the the place itself is sentient and malicious. there is some speculation in Yellowjackets that Laura Lee was killed by The Wilderness bc Wilderness felt threatened by her devout Christianity. Laura Lee stopped the seance and presented a different interpretation of supernatural influence thru an established belief system she was likely too deeply faithful to, to ever abandon it for The Wilderness. i think it's possible Fromville is similar. Father Khatri notes that of all the books there, not a single bible. the crow busts thru the window before Tillie can even reveal the tarot cards, let alone discuss Fatima's reading. i think Fromville might be territorial and intentional in suppressing any other mystical influence that may distract from its own prowess.
going off of the Yellowjackets comparison, uh, if it is indeed real, i don't think The Wilderness is evil. harsh? absolutely. primordial? Beyond the shadow of a doubt. the plane crash itself may have been perceived as a sacrifice. "It's not evil, it's just hungry. Like us," dream!Lottie tells a dying Nat. Van believes The Wilderness is lonely. It is probably both these things and possibly needs to be worshipped in order to exist.
but Fromville? yeah, that place is straight up evil!! it thrives on suffering, despair, and pain. the very first song it plays on the jukebox in s1e01 is a taunt, in hindsight. it manifests itself in personally painful ways to several residents. so on that note, i agree with the theory that trauma is what informs *who* it is that winds up in the town.
when we first ran out of food in Fromville, ngl i was suspecting the town might be trying to drive its residents (captives) to cannibalism. that does not seem to be the case since we found food growing by the cabins in the woods...
those cabins in the woods tho!! so there has been the theory floating around that Eloise is alive. as of the latest episode Victor said she died but Victor's memories are not 100% reliable. he didn't even recall he had a sister until recently! he relies on drawings and objects of the deceased to fill in the gaps of his memory.
so i wonder if Eloise was one of the people living in the woods? i do think it was *people* in the cabins at least at one point.
one theory i find very probable is that Fromville cycles and that the people who fail to escape before losing all hope within the set cycle time turn into the monsters that come out at night. the internal anatomy indicates the monsters used to be human. They are all in period clothing. i believe those were people from the previous cycle and that's why none of them look modern but none of them are dressed in anything older than around the 1950s, either.
i think the theory that Tabitha is Miranda reincarnated is possible! i'm also not entirely convinced, it is compelling though! i think it's more possible than the timeloop theory. i don't agree with the timeloop theory because i think there's too much evidence to suggest that time passes in From. things in From get older, they don't reset. the monsters are in dated clothing. Marielle tells Kristi she's been gone for 6 months and Kristi does not dispute this timeframe.
i don't think Fatima is turning into one of the monsters that comes out at night, as others have theorized. obviously something horrific is taking place and she is undergoing some kind of transformation (or at the least behaving on behalf of her certainly inhuman fetus) but not one of the night monsters. Fatima appears to be developing a taste for human flesh, and the night monsters don't appear to eat the people they kill.
speaking of monsters, i think the wet woman in the kimono Elgin keeps seeing is benign! i believe introducing her alongside the cicada monster outbreak was a misdirect and that she was not actually trying to drown Elgin in that scene. i think the cicadas and/or music box ballerina manifestation were what was actually trying to drown him and that she possibly came to him then because she also suffered drowning (she always looks wet). Kimono Lady has not tried to harm Elgin in her other appearances. Boy In White and Anghkooey kids are similarly creepy but seemingly benign beings who manifest to specific people.
i think the theory that Fromville is a pocket universe holds potential. it's a throwaway line from Dale during Fatima's party, that we as the audience were quickly shuttled away from because 1) fucking Dale and 2) a drunk Ellis and scuffle quickly take center stage. but i never forgot that line and From being in an entirely different universe than our world would go a long way in accounting for its elusiveness.
that's about all i got for now, bud! How about you?? Care to share your thoughts/feelings/theories on From and its characters??
hello again, friend!! are you familiar with the epix/MGM+ series, From? just wondering, as the third season premieres at the end of the month and it's also fitting for the spooky season.
Oooh, yes! I'm really looking forward to the rest of s03 (I've seen the 1st episode and I'm excited). I hope it won't fall apart (become too complicated and mysterious to be enjoyable) down the line, but right now it's still spooky and digestible.
Feel free to tell me about your feelings, possible theories, favorite characters, and such!

[Sf] let's go
PROLOGUE I don't know how it happened. Only that it was a slow process. First the weak, the young and old, the Ill and poor. They were the first to show signs. They slept more and more which wasn't that noticeable because they sleep all the time anyway. However we noticed the problem when they stopped waking up. Then the average people and even the well off started sleeping. This went on for the next six months. No one could figure out how to wake them up or to stop people from falling asleep. At the end of the first year all the people who were still awake moved everyone else to a central city. The sleepers were put in pods that kept them alive providing them with nutrients and other basic needs. The pods monitored them and recorded data in hopes of finding some answers. Every one else was also give a pod in preparation for the worst. Luckily the city runs itself so all we had to do was research and by the end the computers were doing that too. By the end of the second year I was the only one awake. Which I question every day. Why me? Of the millions in the pods why am I awake? CHAPTER 1 : AWAKE I started recording this as a precaution, in the case that I do become a sleeper or if someone wakes up I can fill them in on what happened. This camera is powered by solar panels with a backup plasma battery so I never really need to worry about it dying. ..... Dying that's something that you forget about when you have an entire world that just fell asleep. For two years now I haven't thought about death. Sleeping seemed so much more likely. The fear of going to sleep and not waking up. The ever present possibility of a necessity becoming a prison. That seems more real. Every day I do the same thing. I wake up it gets a little later daily, two years ago I woke up at nine am, a year later it was ten today eleven. After awake up I check the pods, I know the alarm will sound if anything happens. High pitched if a system failed. Low pitched if someone wakes, but I check away. Then I eat, the auto farm produces enough to feed everyone but I carbon freeze the rest for reserves. After breakfast I play pokemon go. It's dumb but it passes the time I carry two phones and play against myself, valor verses mystic, I take the gyms and hit the pokestops one day and the next I switch to the other phone. I helps me feel like it's the good old days. Not to mention it helps me stay active. I come back for lunch around two and after lunch I conduct my research. I'm not a scientist but you pick up a few things when there are ten people awake in the world and the other nine are fading fast so I learned everything I could and now I do the research while they sleep. Five o'clock is quitting time I eat dinner and shower then bed by seven. Then repeat over and over. When I'm lying in my bunk trying to sleep but being too afraid to let it happen, I often think of the days before. They seem like a dream now so surreal that it couldn't be the truth. That life had to be nothing more that a dream. CHAPTER 2 : DREAM I was a handyman before. Nothing special, not a man of science or a politician. Just someone to call when you needed a carpenter or a plumber. My dad always said that's something that will always be needed. They may have computers for everything else but they can't duplicate the human touch. The craftsmanship. So I followed his words. I served in the army first though. The draft for the war with Russia had just kicked off when I turned eighteen and sure enough three months later I was at Fort Benning, Georgia for basic training and infantry school. I served two tours in Siberia as forward forces against the attack on Alaska. When the sleep started taking people I thought it was the Russians attempting some kind of biological attack. But when most of Russia fell asleep I knew I must be wrong. I'd give anything to be back on that battlefield now. At least then I had allies around me and a clear objective. Now the gun shots are silent, the battle cries are only echoes in my head and the died are only sleeping. So it's my job to them wake up. I've had to become a scientist and put down my hammer spending hours researching book after book to find an answer that's never been found. Now instead of fighting with a rifle my fight is one of the mind. CHAPTER 3 : MIND I've been completely alone for about two months now. I have a routine which makes me feel safe. However I can feel my mind slipping. Talking to sleepers, talking to myself, Talking to walls. Desperate for something to talk back. To help me focus I've begun to play my recording back each night. Not to mention pokemon go actually really helps. I pretend that the other phone is someone else and I'll look at some of the other phones, if they have it I use them too. As a "guest appearance". CHAPTER 4 : APPEARANCE There is a lure! A pokemon lure! I didn't place it but it's there. I opened the app and there it was twenty five minutes left on a pokestop maybe 7 miles away. Someone else is here. Not me and not a sleeper but another person who is awake! They know I'm here and that I play pokemon go. So they've probably been watching me for some time now. Do I go to it and see what they want? Do I start building defenses and prepare for them to attack? If I get captured or killed there will be no one to protect the sleepers but this lure could be an olive branch and I have been extremely lonely. That settles it I'll go. I am taking a rifle and sidearm though, just in case. *The man moves out of view as he turns the camera around and straps it to his helmet* let's go see if it's friend or foe. CHAPTER 5: FRIEND OR FOE *The man rides his bike check the phone every few minutes to make sure he's heading the right way, once he gets close he drops his bike. He pulls up his rifle and starts moving forward, slowly moving his head back and forth between buildings scanning for danger* OKAY I'M HERE! What do you want? *A second voice answers from the shadows *"I'll answer with another question. What do you want?" I want to know who you are and why you've been watching me. "Is that all you want? How boring." Answer me and show yourself. " I am the reason your friends are asleep and I have been watching to understand why you are not yet asleep. I wanted to place the 'lure' to see how you would react. I will answer nothing else at this time. Goodbye" wait! I have more questions. *silence* Damn, what the hell just happened. *biking back as fast as he can the man arrives to the pods and does his checks* no harm has come to the pods so why draw me out? Was that really the voice of who ever was responsible for all the sleepers. If so how. A virus? A poison? What could it be? And who are they? Most importantly what happens next? CHAPTER 6: NEXT For the last five days I've rode back to the pokestop where the voice was but nothing else has happened. I'm more paranoid than ever now. I've built fortifications all around the area, trip wires that trigger alarms, and pit falls. However if they really have been watching they'll know exactly where to step. Other than to check the stop I don't leave camp. No more casual pokemon go. Who ever that was they definitely have pushed me closer to insanity. CHAPTER 7: INSANITY Its been a month since the event. A week since I checked the site. I have been hearing voices from the pods. The sleepers I think they are trying to tell me something. .... maybe if I close my eyes I can focus on the words. Yes I hear them. They know the secrets. They say they'll tell me. *the man sits quietly for a few minutes eyes closed face still. He then falls forward dropping the camera. As he lays there asleep foot steps are hear from behind the camera.* "finally the last one falls"

I'd Lost Two Cameras in Two Weeks: What More Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Two trips in two weeksm and on the first day of each trip, I’d lost a camera. How did it all come about and where did it end?
I’ve written before about protecting your camera gear, including how to minimize the likelihood of having it stolen or lost, and then how to maximize your chances of getting it back. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I wrote about losing the first camera and the lessons learned in terms of being able to continue shooting with a smartphone.
I’m very particular about the way I pack and travel. I use a standard messenger bag or rucksack so I don’t advertise what I’m carrying, with every piece of gear labeled with my email address. I use a strap to secure the camera to me, try not to remove it unless absolutely necessary, and then visually check anywhere I’ve been sitting to make sure I haven’t left anything behind. It’s common sense that should be routine.
On the first trip to Vienna, I genuinely can’t remember not having the camera (a diminutive Fuji M1). I can only assume I took it off when sitting on the train and left it on the seat. The camera and lens were labeled, but no one contacted me and lost property had no record of it. It was gone, and it took me several hours before I even realized.
The second loss was sadly quite similar, except this time, it was with my Nikon D700 and favorite Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D lens. I was waiting at a bus stop in Copenhagen and became paranoid about where I’d left my credit card holder. I took the camera and rucksack off and then stripped everything out looking for it. I couldn’t find it, so I repeated the exercise without success. I looked up and saw the bus coming, threw everything back in the bag, and jumped on the bus. And in that moment, I picked up the rucksack, but not the camera. I realized my mistake about five minutes later, jumped off the bus at the next stop, and returned to the start, where I found an empty bus stop.
It was a heartbreaking moment, not least because the D700 and this camera in particular felt a part of me, an extension of my eyes. I phoned lost property for the transit company to find they only operate weekdays and that I needed to speak to each bus route individually. On Monday morning, I phoned the bus company, but nothing had been handed in.
As with the first camera, I was resigned to the fact that I had stupidly lost the Nikon. There was no one else to blame. Then, on Monday afternoon, I had an email from Nara saying she had found my camera in Copenhagen. Several emails later, it turned out that not only had she found it, she worked near London, had brought it back with her, and all I had to do was go and collect it! I was gobsmacked, elated, and relieved. A train journey the following day reunited me with my kit, along with profuse thanks to Nara (and a small gift).
There are a number of lessons learned from these two trips. Firstly, try to be in the moment. Every time you are in transit and particular when in transition, be cognizant of your surroundings and belongings. In short, be like a Buddhist! Try not to remove your camera gear, and if you do, always check a location before you leave it. Secondly, don’t be distracted (as I was in Copenhagen). Not only is it a surefire way to lose track of your gear and what you are doing, but it is also a classic method for gear theft (as with Brett Costello’s theft of $40,000 of gear at the Rio Olympics). Thirdly, labeling gear and registering it on gear sites (such as Lenstag) maximizes your chances of having it returned. Don’t put off doing it (ask yourself now, have you labeled every piece of kit you would be upset at losing and do you have their serial numbers?). Fourthly, there are decent people around! In fact, I’d go as far to say that most people are decent. Don’t let isolated gear losses persuade you otherwise. Keep faith in the world.
