Unpacking the Deals of Ep 8: Why and What They Mean
So episode 8 is... let's say a bit of a mess. I know there's some confusion around why Agatha proposes her terms for the first deal, why Rio flipped into cackling villain mode, why Rio makes another deal, etc.
Here's my read that hopefully helps draw a line from point A to B to C.
Let's consider the context of the first deal: Agatha's not having a good day. Two coven members who Agatha never expected to care about have died trying to protect her â a thing that has never happened before. And Death happens to be a person she can blame.
Death, who is pressing on that bruise ("Your coven is shrinking") and making her shitty day worse because she wants the kid Agatha is hardcore projecting on (and also didn't plan to care about) to die. Just like Nicky.
But Agatha then realises she has leverage on Rio. For the first time in forever, she has an advantage she can exploit. She can be in control.
And it's almost instinctive for Agatha at this point: finding the best buttons to push, the best terms for her given the opportunity.
Agatha: If I deliver Billy, you let me go. Rio: You will eventually die, Agatha. Agatha: But I want you to stop pursuing me. I want you to stop making my life hell. And when I die, a long, long, long, long, long time from now, I don't want to see your face. Rio: ... Okay.
The terms that Agatha sets out seem cruel because they are. She says what she does because she wants it to hurt. Agatha's not only rejecting Rio's continued presence in her life, she's denying all the love that Rio's given her, building on what she's said before ("You gave me nothing.")
From Rio's POV, Agatha's cutting words aside, this entire deal sucks. Because the options are:
(a) Agatha doesn't hold up her end, which Rio knows might happen: Rio knows Agatha cares about Billy ("I know how you feel about him"). Rio's constantly reminding her he's not Nicky. She was already doubting Agatha would deliver her usual number of corpses. She saw how affected Agatha was after Alice's death.
If Agatha doesn't help, she'd be choosing a boy over everything Rio's done again â and this time another woman's.
And if Rio somehow manages to take Billy anyway, Agatha will end up hating her twice forever.
(b) Agatha does hold up her end, which might also happen: Rio knows Agatha's manipulative and smart and capable. More than that, she's well aware Agatha hates her. That Agatha still doesn't see what she's done for her ("No one in history has had special treatment like you").
That she knows Agatha does care about Billy but maybe hates her so much that she's willing to go through with this to cut her out from her life. Billy would be a dear price but one Agatha's maybe willing to pay.
Even if it was a 50:50 chance for these options, I think Rio realises her relationship with Agatha is doomed either way.
Either way she does her job, with or without Agatha's help, she's going to be rejected and lose. One's just a slower path than the other.
I think that's why Rio gives in to her rage and bitterness and spite. Agatha thinks Rio's been making her life hell? She'll show her hell.
And Agatha, well I think there's some merit to the thinking that she didn't expect Rio to fold that quickly and completely.
Now for the context of the second deal, it's not clear whether Rio knows what happened with Tommy. I assume Rio doesn't â not yet anyway â as she doesn't mention it at all and seems focused on squaring that one life Billy stole.
Now here's where it gets a little squirrely, to borrow Schaeffer's language. Because if you don't look too closely, it seems to make sense: Billy stole a life so to maintain the natural balance, Rio needs to take a life, the one Billy has now.
But how does Agatha's life work as a substitute for this imbalance (âThis means youâre coming with meâ)? Would any other personâs life work? Could Rio have swapped someone else's life to save Nicky then? Agatha would have been all too happy to arrange for that murder.
I doubt the show is ever going to explain this so I offer few possible theories to deal with this weirdness:
Billy Maximoff is a product of chaos magic, so his existence and everything he affects already throws off the natural order, just to different orders of magnitude. Agathaâs life works as a substitute because his life is now intertwined with hers e.g. his hex probably saved her life from the Salem Seven and has the potential for greater imbalance
Rio is aware of Agathaâs tendency towards chaos and defiance of the natural order. Rio bent the rules of the universe only for Agatha. Taking her life would protect the balance in the larger scheme of things â if only so Rio wonât be further tempted to give her special treatment.
When Rioâs torturing Agatha itâs before she presents the second deal. So sheâs still intending to go after Billy, sheâs just removing Agatha as an obstacle while lashing out in rage and heartbreak.
In this moment Rio probably thinks Billy's in the wind. She saw how upset Billy was with Agatha at the end of episode 5. And Rio knows the reputation Agatha keeps ("Why do you let them believe those things about you?"), Rio probably thinks Agatha deliberately drove him off to keep him safe.
Then Billy pops up and Rio sees that Billy and Agatha care about each other and they're both aware they care about each other.
Fuckinâ great. Rio's not bitter at all.
Looks like you two are finally on the same page. So I'll let you decide. One of you stays with me. The other walks free.
Agatha proposed a deal designed to hurt her? Now itâs her turn.
From Rio's POV, I think here are the possible outcomes:
(a) Agatha sacrifices herself for Billy: Not impossible I think. Rio knows Agatha cares about the boy but she also knows Agatha will do anything to survive. She thinks she's above death. But again, I think Rio also knows Agatha would have sacrificed herself for Nicky if she had that choice.
What did Lorna want from the Road? To save her daughter.
This isn't an ideal outcome for Rio but sheâs already resigned herself to losing Agatha I think, one way or another. This way if Agatha wants Billy to live so badly, this is the price she has to pay. The high cost of living.
(b) Billy steps up and sacrifices himself: Very possible given that Billyâs a young heroic sort and already showed up, risking his life to power up Agatha. Rio gets to do her job. Agatha will probably hate her more given the Nicky trauma but Rioâs already resigned to this on some level already, which is why she's raging.
Either way Agatha's going to hurt, and Rio's going to hurt.
It's interesting that when Billy does volunteer himself and Agatha seizes the opportunity to remind Rio of their earlier deal, Rio just shakes her head and looks amused.
You can also see for a brief moment Agatha looking almost remorseful about doing this before slipping her theatrical villainous mask on, overcompensating for her true feelings.
Do you remember pain? It kinda tickles doesn't it?
By the letter (not the spirit or intent) of the first deal, Agatha did ultimately fulfil her part:
I can arrange that. I can get him to the finish line and deliver him to you.
This is an opportunity that's almost impossible to resist for someone as calculating and ruthless and selfish like Agatha. She has power (chaos magic no less), she can have Rio leave her alone forever (she knows Rio honours her word), she knows Billy cares about her but can she really trust him?
But Agatha ultimately decides to take a risk. A calculated one sure, but still a risk.
I think the beauty in the kiss and her sacrifice is how â despite her calculating the odds â Agatha is choosing to give in to what she feels and wants in that moment.
Because she does want to protect the boy in a way no one did for her when she was young. She wants to save Billy like she couldn't with Nicky. And she does want Rio so much despite everything that's happened.

Any thought on Toph's writing and "arc" in ATLA? I personally think Toph was the most stunted and underdeveloped character. She never really develops at all and is mostly just a walking joke. It's clear that the writers loved her but also clear that they never did anything with her.
If you mean stunted and underdeveloped character in the main cast, definitely yes. A lot of minor characters were done a disservice by the show, given next to no complexity, so I wouldn't rank her as #1 altogether, but among the main cast, absolutely.
Now, I wouldn't say she had zero growth, it's just... not an arc. I also don't think she was only a joke, though they used her for comedy a lot. It's part of why it weirds me out when the fandom acts like Sokka, and only Sokka, was comic relief in ATLA. Toph, Aang, Iroh, even Zuko whenever the narrative wanted to poke fun at him, provided comic relief often, so it's kind of stupid to pretend it was only ever Sokka.
... But that ridiculous perception, then, caused the not-so-funny LOK phenomenon of "Bolin is the funny one", where basically all comedy was meant to be about/around this one character, which didn't work nearly as well as they expected it to, and did nothing for the team's synergy and bonding, but I digress...
What do I think about Toph's story and journey in ATLA?
Toph starts out as a girl who wants nothing more than to be independent and for people to stop underestimating her. When we consider that, in her final action scene in the show, she's clinging by her fingertips to someone else, and that her survival and life depend expressly on HIM, it suggests that she's learned that she doesn't have to go at everything alone, and also that she doesn't have all the answers to all situations. The first time we met her, it doesn't really feel like she wants to work alongside other people, as shown in her conflict with Katara in The Chase, where Toph felt absolutely no need to chip in and help out with anything but her personal needs.
I will say, in Toph's defense about that last thing, it's perfectly common for a child who has spent most her life being cared for, not having anyone expect a single thing out of her, to not understand why she needs to contribute ANYTHING to the team. It doesn't hurt that she's new, which implies that the others have been setting up camp, finding food, traveling across the world, without needing an earthbender's contributions. So it's fairly easy to see her side in this: why does she need to help at all? Why can't they handle things on their own when they always did?
But in her chance encounter with Iroh, Toph is given a chance to think on things and ponder that there's nothing wrong with relying on others. It's so effective that this scene concludes with Toph telling Iroh that maybe he should tell Zuko that he needs him too. This might even be one of Toph's strongest moments in the entire show, honestly. She has no idea who she's talking about, has never met Zuko or Iroh before, but what she tells Iroh doesn't sound like it comes only from having determined that IROH needs Zuko: it sounds like self-reflection, based on Toph realizing that maybe she can open up to needing her friends, too, and working alongside them isn't such a bad thing.
I think this is decent writing. Really!
The issue is... this is about as good as it gets with Toph.
I really like her character, she has a lot of good jokes, some interesting moments of vulnerability here and there, but this scene with Iroh is the only instance of the show I can think back on that actually features Toph questioning her strict ideas and reasoning with them, choosing a different path and abandoning something else she wasn't ready to forsake (complete and utter independence). What's more, this isn't even the kind of growth where Toph has COMPLETELY abandoned her individualistic mentality: she's adjusted it. She allows herself to consider she could be part of a team, to have friends, to work with others, but that doesn't mean she's tied down to them. It never stops feeling like Toph is more than ready to do things on her terms, in her own ways. No matter how much she bonds with the others, she will rely on them exclusively when she needs them (see how she clings to others when she has little to no visibility), or when they need her in combat and such, but outside of such spaces? It's unlikely that Toph will be the type of person who feels the need to be accompanied all the time, who feels better if someone is constantly watching over her. Her friends allow her to find some kind of balance between her need for independence and the comfort of having allies and friends to connect to... but that doesn't mean that she'll never break off on her own when the urge hits her, when the big battles are settled, when problems are resolved.
And I'm the last person to think Yang, of ALL PEOPLE, has any solid understanding of these characters, but whether it was his idea or Bryke's to feature Toph as a teacher, and to have the Gaang drop by to pick her up during The Promise? Ultimately, this just proves she doesn't feel the need to be with Aang, Sokka and Katara non-stop. If even someone like Yang thought she'd go do her own thing (... the quality of what he wrote is, of course, forever in question), down to even leaving her out of The Search entirely? It's clear that they're not trying to promote the idea that Toph is forever clinging to her friends now. She's still independent.
But like I said earlier... this balance Toph finds between her friends and her freedom isn't the product of multiple episodes and lots of hard work and bumping into obstacles to achieve. This... is literally just Toph's second episode. That's the last time the show actually challenged Toph on a PERSONAL level that doesn't involve "becoming a more powerful bender".
Take her relationship with her parents, for instance: the fandom is convinced they were abusive as fuck and that Toph would hate them forever. Ironically, the show DOESN'T promote this notion at all (which makes The Rift kind of insane when compared to the show's treatment of Toph's parents), for it features her parents as two idiots who underestimate Toph immensely and who simply want her to come home and stay out of danger. This could be deemed as abusive in some people's minds, as usual the word needs to be taken more seriously nowadays... they're not good parents, there's no denying that. They don't understand their daughter, outright. They allow their preconceptions of her disability to determine who they think their daughter is. There's nothing in the show that suggests otherwise.
So why, exactly, is it that every instance where Toph considers communicating with her parents or meeting them, she seems to be perfectly content with doing it?
Xin Fu's trap for Toph was completely cemented on the notion that Poppy Beifong had come to visit Ba Sing Se and that she finally accepted her daughter for who she was. Toph's reaction isn't some kind of jaded dismissal because there's noooo way her mom would ever accept her... she outright goes to see her. Which allows Xin Fu to trap her. Which then results in Toph discovering she can metalbend. But the thread that started this whole plotline? It... goes nowhere. Of course, Toph's parents AREN'T there, there's no real reason to assume they've changed, and this was just a trap... but we get no reaction from Toph when it comes to this. We see no conflict. She simply embraces her new abilities and runs back to Ba Sing Se. A quick glance through the transcript shows zero focus or interest in what she went through. Hell, there's not even any acknowledgement that she learned to metalbend. It's all about Aang's struggles with the Avatar State and Katara being in danger.
Next time? The Runaway. A very frustrating and annoying episode. What happens here? Katara decides to dig into Toph's old wounds regarding her parents, tries to psychoanalyze her and decides that all of Toph's rebelliousness against authority boil down to having a bad relationship with her parents. Which... maybe it's true? Doesn't really justify Katara trying to act like her mother anyway? And then the episode ends with Toph asking Katara to help her send a letter to her parents, which sounds like Toph has made her peace with them and like she's ready to accept that she would like them in her life too, and that she wants them to accept who she is. Yay.
... The issue here is there's no follow-up. This doesn't feel like development because nothing comes from it. Nothing really changed. It doesn't come from organic writing either: it comes from Katara's forced "mother friend" role that she didn't use to hold at all (as I said in the ask about why I think Katara loses her appeal as a character the deeper we go into ATLA), and it never actually confronts Toph with her parents again. It doesn't feature a deeper reflection from Toph regarding why she feels the way she does about her parents, nor does it feature Katara realizing that Toph's parents actually did fuck up a LOT with her and that she has every right to push back against them. It merely makes Katara calm down because she realizes the others care about her (while eavesdropping, ofc) and are ready to accept her for who she is... even though she, too, merits a LOT of reflection regarding this mom friend role and nobody else should be comfortable with that, let alone her :'D
Point being, the show really just holds this as the only thing about Toph that wasn't actually resolved, but it acts like it's fine because Toph sent a letter. What growth did we see in Toph that actually means this letter makes all the difference, though? We have no idea how it affected her parents -- as much as Yang acts like it didn't affect them at all, it could have made them rethink some things, or it could have made them mount an even more desperate search for their child, who knows? And it's a pretty solid thread to pull at, to tug loose, to TRULY challenge Toph's character... aaaaaaand they just don't do it at all.
The way I see it, that's really what it boils down to. The show doesn't challenge Toph in any significant way after her... second episode. This isn't the case for most main characters, and I'm not even asking for Toph's story to feature an intense, horrible, super harrowing and difficult plot...! Just, make some things complicated for her. Show her frustrations, show her difficulty to grasp things she hasn't experienced before. Confront her with realities that she, a sheltered girl from a pretty well-off city, has never really needed to face before. Her attitude towards Ba Sing Se is never questioned or challenged narratively: she's constantly proven right about the city being fucked up, and about her reads on all high society people. While all this makes Toph feel smart to a viewer, the issue really comes where this character basically only has her admittedly sizable charisma to win us over. She succeeds! But what does this show give her to work with besides a very quick "I don't wanna work in a team-I learned to work in a team" conflict that is resolved even faster than Sokka's sexism, which pretty much died out within 4 episodes?
There's definitely a component here were Toph is successful not only because of her personality, her abilities, her strength... but also because of the message she conveys regarding disabilities. A LOT of disabled people have clung to Toph as an example and inspiration to not allow whatever ails them to define them or hold them back. Whether the comparison between a blind girl with magical powers and a disabled person of our world without them is valid or not? The effect Toph has had on a lot of viewers who related to her struggles is undeniable. In a sense, it almost feels like the fandom's worship of Toph suggests that in not giving her further challenges on a personal level, they actually hit some kind of jackpot as far as social messages are concerned... but once you actually scope in and pay proper attention to her character, you might find she's got so much more potential that went ignored by this story in favor of presenting her as this unquestionably strong girl who relies on others when she really needs to but otherwise is independent and free from all of society's restraints on her.
Personally, I know this to be the case because of the pushback and reactions my version of Toph in Gladiator initially resulted in. She had no reason to think anything of Sokka and damn near killed him when they first clashed in the Gladiator League... and this horrified a LOT of people! They couldn't BELIEVE Toph could be like this! An older Toph, 7 years older to be precise, who broke free from her parents' hold, struck a bargain with her would-be-captor to get him MORE money than he'd find if he turned her in, and who wanted nothing but to measure her strength against other powerful fighters. If she doesn't have Aang's group's influence on her as early on as when she's 12-years-old, is it REALLY that crazy for Toph's problems with her parents and authority to fester, for her craving for independence to reach new heights, for her readiness to prove herself stronger than anyone to actually be a hazard for other people who stand in her way?
Thus... a lot of the work I've done with this character has been deconstructing these flaws, building her into someone who understands herself better. It's in learning from the examples Sokka and Azula set for her that she starts to realize what kind of person, what kind of LEADER she wants to be. One of my favorite scenes to write about Toph is when she's setting her city free from Fire Nation control, extending her earthbending reach all across Gaoling, putting a stop to the FN army while focusing on creation rather than destruction. On building up her people, on leading her forces with the power of her seismic sense, on capturing the enemy leader, all of it without razing her home city to the ground. Early Gladiator Toph? She wouldn't have cared one bit to join the war to begin with, and if someone had told her that her city, the place she associated with rules, limitations and restraints would be razed to the ground? She might have even encouraged it. Yes, a part of her would have felt guilt over her parents... but she would have been so emotionally stunted that she would have forced herself to ignore any part of her that still cared about them.
And worth noting? One of the biggest personal issues Toph faced was actually nearly killing Azula and Sokka because of her absolute determination to win against them during an event. They were already friends, but they were also each other's biggest rivals in the League... neither side holds back when it comes to this particular competition, and Azula and Sokka had actually beaten Toph and Iroh on their previous encounter! Which meant Toph's desperation for victory was driving her a bit crazy. But once Toph takes it too far at one point, she freaks out. It triggers guilt that actually jumpstarts a much deeper and more complicated arc than anything she'd been through before. Her determination to win at all costs, her pride over her lifelong winning streak within the League... she's suddenly facing the possibility that all this shit she used to cling to, so damn hard, means NOTHING when she could lose two of the people she cares most about if she continues to privilege all that stuff over their wellbeing and safety.
And this doesn't mean that she didn't like fighting as a Gladiator anymore... it means she really came to terms with the fact that other things mattered more. Later on? She realized there are BIGGER fights out there, too, than what's going on in the League: she was the last line of defense against a brutal attack by a rogue waterbender who killed a lot of people and could have killed many more... and after the fact, she spends quite some time worrying about what could have happened if she had failed to protect everyone, if her strength had faltered when she needed it most.
Yes, touting my own horn a lot... but everything I've typed about my own story is exactly why it can even piss me off, at times, to see Toph's potential as a character squandered to the extent it is in canon. I've done so much more with her than they ever did, and granted it's a huge story, but Toph ISN'T the main focus on it and I still managed to give her more to work with than canon ever did. It makes no sense, does it?
I don't think she was given the respect she deserved, and partly, I feel this happened with a lot of female characters who straight-up don't have arcs at all. There's this latent fear that in questioning a character, showing they're flawed, they could become unlikeable... ironic how this is seldom a concern over male characters, but it is with female ones. And mind you: it DOES happen to male characters, because Aang himself is the most egregious example of a male character showcasing flaws and people spiraling over them, turning them into something they never were, all be it to pretend SOMEONE ELSE (*cough* Zuko *cough*) is that much better than him. But they WEREN'T scared of writing Aang into complicated situations that showcased his flaws and resulted in his growth, though. They are with Katara, Toph, Suki, Mai, Ty Lee... :') wonder why, huh?
Ultimately, Toph is a much better character, boiled down to basics, than many characters I tend to talk about and criticize openly. The issue with Toph, for me, isn't really that she fails as a character, or conveys wrong messages, or that the narrative is biased in her favor (though sometimes it is...).
The problem with Toph is she has no chances to truly grow into her own. That her biggest growth comes from a singular conversation with Iroh in episode 2x08 is incredibly unfair to a character who can provide SO MUCH if you simply give her a chance and let her be... human. Flawed. Complex. There's so much more that can be done with her, and if given a chance? She really could have been the best character of the entire show. Too bad they didn't have the guts to let that happen.
#zuko-always-lies#I may take longer to answer the other one because time#but I figured I'd drop this one right away :'D#I wonder if this is gonna ruffle feathers#for whatever wild reason even though I really like Toph#she's the character whose fans have consistently been most dickish at me#I'd say I don't know why but nah I do know#at least#a particular subset of Toph fans :')#who happen to be the ones who have been a pain#not all of em#but enough of em#regardless of their whining I still believe Toph deserves more

If it's okay with you, could you write a drabble about the hypothetical aftermath of Amane getting attacked by Kotoko?
Welp thank you pal for making me absolutely insane with this request đ I ran through a few hypotheticals and realized I had to shift some things around since there were so many absolutely tragic outcomes. I worked something out but damn if it didnât make me emotional to think about how uniquely rough Amane has it. Even making sure she's in a good place at the end, this got pretty serious, so warnings for child abuse and cult references.Â
(So in canon, Kotoko goes in order and attacks Fuuta, but Kazui steps in. Then she attacks Mahiru while heâs distracted with his injuries. Sheâs about to attack Amane, but Mikoto gets in the way (my hc that he did it on purpose survives!). By the time they reach a draw, Kazui is back, and the two of them can prevent Kotoko from any further action against Amane. Sticking to this apparent system of three attacks and one rescue, Iâm just shuffling around the injuries for this story. Fuutaâs attack went unnoticed, and heâs in the same state as canon Mahiru. Mikoto steps in before Kotoko can fight Mahiru, so Mappiâs the one who get out physically unscathed. While Mikoto checks on Mahiru, recovers himself, or discovers Fuuta, Kotoko is able to attack Amane next. Kazui comes to help, but not before she leaves Amane looking like canon Fuuta.)
Mahiru could practically feel her heart shatter into a million pieces when Amane finally cried in front of her. She hadnât shed a single tear yesterday â it was the shock, Shidou said. Mahiru was skeptical. After all, she had been shocked, too, and cried plenty.
Amane woke as she came in with breakfast. She took a moment to survey herself, bandages peeking out from beneath her pajamas and an eyepatch securely over her right eye. As calmly as one might say âgood morning,â she started to cry. Mahiru might have missed it, if Amane hadnât wiped at her good eye with her sleeve.
âOh, sweetheartâŠ!â Mahiru rushed over to her. âItâs okay, Iâm here.â She wanted nothing more than to wrap the girl in a secure embrace, but she remembered the mass of bandages that were around her chest. Shidou had mentioned broken ribs and bruises. It took everything in her not to cry along with Amane, at the thought.
âI can get you another ice pack, if you need. Or more medicine.â Her mind spun with ways to help with pain. Many of the first aid supplies had been used to keep Fuuta from the brink of death, but surely there were extras to spare for Amane.Â
The girl just shook her head.Â
She muttered, âI canât⊠IâŠIâm going to be punished, Iâm going to be punishedâŠâ
âNo! Youâre safe now.â Mahiru placed her hands gently on Amaneâs arms. âKotokoâs not coming back. Weâre all watching over you. Youâre safe. Sheâs not going to hurt you anymore.âÂ
âThatâs notâŠâ Amane pulled away. Her voice stayed level, despite hiccups interrupting her. A hand reached up to her eyepatch. âItâs this. Itâs all of this. Itâs sinful. I took it off last night, but he must haveâŠâ She started unwrapping it. âTheyâre going to punish me...âÂ
With a careful motion, Mahiru held it in place and took Amaneâs hands into her own. Sheâd been picking up on the signs ever since they arrived here together, and a final wave of understanding washed over her.Â
âI canât let you do that.â
Amaneâs expression twisted, though words came out far more frantic than fiery. âLet me go.âÂ
Mahiru didnât. âIâm sorry. Amane, you need this treatment.â
âThat is not your decision to make. That is not any humanâs decision to make.â
Mahiru pressed her lips together. âI know. But I canât watch as you⊠I canât sit by again while someoneâŠâ She was careful not to apply any pressure, but she could no longer fight the urge to gather Amane up in her arms. âYou donât need to be afraid of those people, anymore.â
âIâm not afraid.â Amane hiccuped. âThey love me, and I love them. I need to be good for them.â
âI love you, and I donât want to see you in pain.â
âYou just pity me because Iâm young.â
âWhy does your age matter? You are a lovely young woman â you are my friend â and I canât bear to see you in pain.â
The two sat in silence for a moment. Mahiru doubted she would take that as an answer; Amane had refused to call any of the others her friend. At least she didnât argue. In fact, it seemed she was leaning into the embrace a bit more. She sighed a shaky breath into Mahiruâs uniform.
âListen, Amane. Can you do me a favor? Iâm trying to be a good girl, too. To make up for something awful, I need to make sure youâre alright. Can you help me? Can we be good together?â
A long pause followed. Amaneâs voice spoke up, ever so gently.
âI suppose I can consider it.â She added quickly, âfor the sake of your redemption. Of course.â
âOf course.â
#milgram#amane momose#mahiru shiina#thank you so much! i dont want to be bubbly on such a serious drabble but i want to give an enthusiastic thanks because this one really got#the gears turning!!#i started making plans as soon as i saw the ask and it took so long finding something that wouldnt result in straight up tragedy :(#if i kept to the initial timeline and said kazui didnt step in until amanes attack then both fuuta and mahiru would be close to death#and given there seems to limited supplies i think one of them would have died if shidou needed to treat three critical patients#so i moved people around to make sure everyone survived#which brought me to the main problem of amane self sabotaging her medical care#even minor injuries could have resulted in death if she got her way and removed bandages/refused treatment#but the mental strain of keeping the treatment would be just as bad as the physical pain -- shed be paranoid 24/7 of#divine punishment and repeating the mistakes that led her here.... it would hurt more to be forced like that#so i needed someone to be able to get through to her gently#but the only one who shes been able to trust just got the shit beat out of him and is in no position to talk!!!!#everyone else would just make her more upset or not know how to convince her the right way :(#still - i think mahiru could do it the best! with her own trauma from allowing loved ones to die in front of her i think shed be motivated#so. yeah.#i know amane is supposed to be talking in the plural pronoun now but i couldnt get it to work - lets just say that kicks in soon after this#tw cults#tw child abuse#drabbles

Cancelled the in person interview for today after discussing phone interview with Mum and Housemate last night (and the numerous red flags and cost of the lyft there and back for a job that ultimately the place wouldn't be able to convince me to take if offered, bc the general consensus was 'this is literally likely to be as bad as the current job BUT with the added cost of lyfts back and forth that they wouldn't be paying enough to offset, why on earth would you (me) take this job lmaooooo')
Which works out good bc the ongoing Mum trauma stuff is hitting hard as soon as I've woken and maybe I can get the Big Cry out today. Or write down any of the memories that have been playing on repeat in my mind
(with all this said, yes, I still asked and do legitimately care abt my mum's opinion and experience with jobs despite this; yes it feels weird; no I don't know how healthy that is or not lmao but I'm gonna lean towards Not Healthy bc im discovering that the work my previous doc did certainly uncovered this codependency and trauma which absolutely was a great help but like...we didn't actually really untangle any of it so I could try and untangle myself from my mum, even from 1600+ miles from one another. So. probably not healthy.)
#text post#Housemate was the far more helpful one of ae and mum tho and im very grateful ae took the time to talk over the interview with me#to help me figure out if doing the in person was worth it#mum did kind of help in that she pointed out several dakota eye like red flags from the employer that in retrospect yeah#were flying right in front of my face but i just. want to find better work so it's hard to ignore the red flags sometimes#until someone else goes uhhhhh hey maybe not this job no matter how desperate you feel#which is what it boiled down to more or less in discussion with both of them last night#it's just a weird thing of mum was still helpful and im glad i had a call with her but also it was low key triggering#and part of me wants to call her back and ask if she knows that she's a major part of why i struggle to say no to anyone#who feels even vaguely an authority figure over me no matter what my feelings are or if im being hurt#because id rather be obedient and pleasing than independent and honest (& possibly disappoint ppl with the latter)#but let's be real she wouldn't have an answer. it's beyond her to even think of this stuff#she'd be upset and offended and I'd be groveling like usual to try and make up for daring to question any part of our relationship#the same groveling i do on autopilot for any potential offense because it doesn't matter even if i asked & was given permission#im still always finding there's something i need to ask her forgiveness for anyway#but i love her and am incredibly grateful for her and how much she's given of herself to me as a single mum#idk im gonna shut up abt emotions for now and figure out what on earth im doing with myself today

Paris Valerian but i redesign his dragon form for funsies based on how i see him=. Not sure if I like this design bc im not a fan of bulkier looking dragons but for Paris I think this works??
Some headcanons about this design:
has a bit of a bull-like look bc I associate bulls with persistence and madness and idk that fits Paris well so if Fian has a âfoxâ motif Paris gets a âbullâ one for his dragon formÂ
His design is based a lot on how a stereotypically evil dragon would look???? Because imo OG!Paris reads as a massive antagonist and I think giving him a look that fits that vibe in his dragon form works!! Especially because he still is an antagonist in a way (though god does he not read that way lmao)
heâs stronger in his dragon form than Fian is and he uses this to his advantage to bully Fian around whenever they playfight as dragons. That said, it seems Paris is surprisingly gentle towards Fian in this form and never hurts him.
he uses this form to intimidate people into getting what he wants. Heâs not used to getting retaliated against while in this form and quickly respects anyone who does so (read: Fian, Lyla and Helene)
the silver scales on his body can glow in the same way his eyes do. Typically, he keeps them dull-colored (see above) but if he feels a strong emotion of any sorts theyâll glow brightly without him meaning to (noticeably: they glow constantly whenever Helene is around for obvious reasons~).
#it hurts to see the person you like cry. but you wouldn't understand-#that Paris#TME#TME art#Paris being weak for Fian is so canon it's literally joked about more than once that they're unnaturally close to each other#i wish the manhwa/LN would elucidate more on the instinctive (and clearly qpt) bond dragons share with each other#and why that bond was overridden in the original story by each dragon's obsession with Helene when they'd yet to imprint on her#man i still remember reading about how Paris felt utterly alone once he awakened as a dragon and Fian coming into his life made him so happ#i still get teary over that passage in particular ahgjgjfgjjh that part of Paris's backstory hits where it hurts lmao#i also really wish the manhwa had included that about Paris because it really fleshed him out knowing that it wasn't that he bonded w/ Fian#that changed him but that he finally FINALLY had someone else who could understand him that made him happier in life and chill TF out#if you pair info given about Paris in the light novel with what's given about his manhwa self he's an amazingly well done character#like ive literally gone from thinking him cringe + unlikable to being deeply invested in and sympathetic to his character#also fun fact i find the idea of Paris and Fian playfighting as dragons really fucking cute#it's not in any way canon (well it kind of is actually lol) but i like hc'ing that awakened dragons need to spend social time together in-#their dragon forms doing shit like playfighting or resting together in order to live happier lives#and unfortunately this kind of qpt relationship is not understood by humans/mermaids/mages hence why Paris went absolutely mad pre-Fian bc#no one around him was capable of understanding the desperation he felt to fill the void in his heart and unfortunately he turned to Helene-#to fill that void to the point he went insane over her to the point he tried to completely monopolize her as a means to salvage himself#(which understandably pisses Helene off in the og timeline to the point it's no wonder she rejects him lmao)#and now that in Lyla's timeline Paris has gotten someone in his life who understands him and fills the void in his heart#he's more than capable of empathizing with Helene and seeing her as a person he wants to genuinely learn more about even if he can't quite-#shake his obsessive tendencies towards her#(which is really really REALLY fun to watch and i hope to see more development from his character)#(because i really do want him to reflect on Fian's words of when it comes to Helene)#(not that I think Helene would ever cry in front of him bc of him but she might do so because of Lyla)#(and god do i wanna see Paris eat his words about finding Fian's romantic-ness corny lmao)#yes i very much can write a whole-ass essay of a character study on Paris he's wildly fascinating#and he's so NOT my type which makes it even funnier that im as fixated on him as i am right now

Get in the Water AU: Original Post Ruthlessness
Ghosts were physiologically different from humans.
It was something Tucker and Sam didn't understand. They saw Phantom as "Danny with superpowers," not as a fundamentally different being.
Sometimes, Danny didn't understand either.
But his parents did. Utter disregard for the scientific method aside, the Fentons were the ones who learned how inhuman ghosts were: "Just emotions and electricity imprinted on ectoplasm, Danno, nothing to be scared of!" Snapshots of people at the moments of their deaths. The past and the present, incapable of contemplating the future.
And with his duality, Danny struggled to understand either of his halves.
As a human, Danny could move past his nightmare of a childhood, compartmentalize and think to the future, when he was fully healed and his past couldn't hurt him anymore. So when Dora, first elected Queen of the Infinite Realms - long may she reign - asked him to collect all the resurrected humans for a health check and assessment... when he'd noticed Damian Al Ghul-Wanye on the list... He'd thought up a little prank to pull on his long-lost brother. A cruel one, perhaps, but nothing harmful.
As a ghost, Danny couldn't move on. He could never forget that Sam led him to his death, that his parents negligence allowed for the stage to be set, that the lab they loved so much held both his home and his grave. Just as Danny would always be that fourteen year old, caught in that moments, he was still the 7-year-old Danyal Al Ghul who trusted his brother not to hurt him... and ended up poisoned.
Phantom wanted his murderer to suffer.
And Danny, much to his shame, had allowed it.
For a few weeks, Danny managed to ignore it. He'd gone after Damian first, so there were tons of resurrected on his list. He started with the more extreme cases first, like Constantine, but soon enough the next on his list was Ra's Al Ghul.
He'd asked Queen Dora to send someone else, anyone else. That he wouldn't be able to control himself if he saw his grandfather again. Instead of relieving him, she'd given him a knowing look and told him to follow his core's desire.
She never mentions it, but Queen Dora had been a murder victim too.
There was no showmanship, no dramatic reveal. Just Danyal, his grandfather, and the Pit.
Despite all Ra's Al Ghul's power, he was no match for a spirit hellbent on drowning him.
That's what Danny did to his grandfather. He'd thrown up afterwards, once he was human before. But the ghost in him relished the act; he could still feel Grandfather's throat under his hands, pulse fluttering against his palm as Danyal held him down. He struggled and shook as the Lazarus waters filled his lungs, burning away healthy tissue. Fingernails morphed into claws that sliced through the tender skin, blood leaking into the water, and water leaking into the blood.
It took a long time for Grandfather to die. Deep within Danny, next to his core, he knew it was what was deserved. That the murdered finally had justice. He was content with never speaking of it again, a secret between him and the waters.
And now it was going to happen again as Phantom's impulsive mind overtook Fenton's tactical one.
He'd known Damian was looking into him. Knew another confrontation was inevitable, what with two more of his siblings needing their health checks. But as Danny was stalking their mother, searching for the best way to abduct her (she was still his mother after all, he didn't want her dead... yet), Damian and his family confronted her.
Relief washed over him as only a normal amount of rage bubbled up at the sight of Damian, instead of the overwhelming, all-consuming fury he'd felt. Danny laughed at their arguments, at Constantine thinking he could put a living ghost to rest, at his siblings-unmet and his father-unknown, until...
Damian confessed.
His murderer confessed, yet as he continued to speak, to explain, the fury rose in him again. Because it wasn't a betrayal. He'd always thought Damian betrayed him, but no.
Through his own ruthlessness, Damian gave him the only mercy he could manage. And there was only one thing Danyal wanted now.
""ÌžÍÌČT̶ÍÍaÌ”ÌÌąliÌža̶ÌÌŹ ÌŽÌÌŹAÌ”ÌÌȘlÌžÌÌČ GÌžÌÌ«h̶ÌÌșuÌžÌÌąl!ÌŽÍÌł DÌ·ÌÌ©oÌžÍÍ

It was her fault. She was the reason why he was dead, nothing more than a coward who couldn't go against her father for the sake of her children. She abused them, she struck his brother, it was her fault-
"Danyal," she answered. And Danyal grinned, fanged and sharp.
He approached, the waters of his birthplace lovingly brushing against his legs, consoling him the only way they knew how. They whispered revenge into his ears, madness into his heart, just as they had when he'd confronted Damian, when he murdered Grandfather. "You have much to answer for, daughter of the Demon Head," he said, voice echoing around the room.
Unrestrained greed filled her gaze. "You've returned to me, my son."
Danyal laughed, brutal and rough. "I've returned for you, Mother," he corrected. "Don't think this reunion will end well for you."
"You mean to hurt me, Danyal?" she crooned, all false hurt and fake love.
"I mean to kill you."
Genuine anger flashed across her face. "My son would never-"
"YÌ”ÌÌșoÌŽÍÌ©uÌžÌÍrÌ·ÍÌ° ÌŽÍÍsÌ”ÌÌĄo̶ÌÌĄnÌ”ÌÌ Ì¶ÌÌiÌŽÌÌs ÌžÌÌŠdÌŽÌÌŻe̶ÌÍa̶ÍÌ©dÌ·ÍÌ»," he snarled, and Damian flinched. He was too close to Talia. "You wanted me dead... for being weak. For having mercy." He stared up at his mother's shocked form. "I killed Grandfather. Tell me, is that ruthless enough for you, Umi?" Talia flinched with just her eyes. He hadn't been allowed to call her Umi since he was three.
Their father stepped forward, the naked distress on his face contrasting with his battle armor. "Danyal," he plead. "You don't have to do this-"
"Stay out of this, Baba." The man's breathing hitched. "This doesn't involve you."
Constantine tried to talk him down next. "It does, kid. A Siren on your level can't stay around for long. It's time for you to rest."
Danyal threw back his head and laughed. "As if you could stop me, exorcist." No more delays. It's time for action. "I will drown you all before you can."
Danyal lunged. And despite his mother's decades as an assassin, she couldn't kill what was already dead.
He held her down by the throat, the attacks from Damian's family bouncing off him. "This is mercy," he cooed as she desperately clawed at his hands. "For me. For Damian. For everyone you will try to hurt in the future. Ruthlessness is the only mercy I can give you now." Her face turned red as she gaped for air and Danyal-
Was thrown back into the water.
Reorienting himself, he found John Constantine standing over his mother, protecting her from him. "Ì·ÍÌȘEÌ·ÍÌșxÌ·ÌÌo̶ÌÌșrÌŽÌÍcÌ·ÍÌiÌžÌÍs̶ÍÌźt̶ÍÌŻ."
And the Pit's water began to rise.

be my mistake | n. romanoff x reader
pairing: natasha romanoff x fem!reader
summary: three years have passed since the divorce, since natasha hurt you and over time, you found yourself reflecting on the struggles you both went through, both as a couple and apart from each other. revisiting memories with your family draw you and natasha closer than youâve been in years.
content warnings: lots of angst, hurt/comfort??, cheating, insecure!reader, mentions of alcohol/drinking, implied smut, wanda being a good friend (pls let me know if iâm missing anything else i canât tell)
word count: 19.8k
It had been three long years since everything fell apart between you and Natasha. Three years since the day you packed your bags, gathered your daughters, and walked away from the life youâd built together. The split wasnât clean. It wasnât one of those polite, quiet divorces that people talk about when theyâve simply grown apart. No, yours was loud, raw, and full of hurt. You could still remember the echo of your arguments, the way her voice would crack when she begged for forgiveness, and the silence that always followed afterwardâheavy, suffocating. That silence weighed more than the words ever did.
Natasha had tried. She really had. For a while, after the it happened, she did everything to make amends, to erase what she had done. But it wasnât something you could erase. It wasnât something you could forgive right then, no matter how hard she tried to make things right. Youâd given her so many chances to explain, so many opportunities to show you that the Natasha you fell in love with was still there.Â
But each time, all you could see was the betrayal, the moment she chose someone else over you.
For her, it was a mistakeâsomething that happened once and never again. But for you, it was a scar, a wound that never healed. You couldnât go back. You couldnât let her back in. You didnât know if you ever could again. And she knew it, even though she didnât want to accept it. There were moments, though, when Natasha still looked at you with that same longing, the same desperation she had the night you left her. She wanted things to go back to the way they were, back to when you were her partner, her wife, her everything.Â
But you couldnât. You wouldnât.
No matter how much she tried to show you that she had changed, the past still lingered between you, like a shadow that refused to leave. Even now, after all this time, there was still a part of her that couldnât accept that things would never be the same. You saw it in her eyes every time she picked up the girls, every time she lingered a little too long at the door, as if hoping you might invite her in, ask her to stay. But you never did. You couldnât allow it, not after everything. It had been hard. Painful, even. Co-parenting with someone who had broken your heart, who had shattered the life you thought youâd have together, was an agony all its own. But you had to do it, for your girls, Nina and Lily. They needed you both, and you would never let your pain come between them and their mothers. Even if it meant seeing Natasha more often than you wanted. Even if it meant reopening old wounds every time her name appeared on your phone, or when your girls came home with stories about the time theyâd spent with her.
And the first year after the divorce was hell for Natasha. She tried everything in her power to get you backâflowers, letters, showing up at the house at odd hours, always begging for another chance. She couldnât accept that it was over. Every time she saw you, even in the briefest of moments, she could see the pain in your eyes, the devastation her betrayal had caused. It tore her apart. She had broken something precious, something she didnât know how to fix, and yet she kept trying. She was relentless, desperate to rewind the clock, to undo what couldnât be undone.
But the more she tried, the more tired you looked. The weight of it all was etched into your face, exhaustion hanging over you like a dark cloud. Your bright eyes, full of life and love, had dimmed. The smile that had once been hers was gone, replaced by a coldness that froze her out. And with every desperate plea, every attempt to reach you, she realized she was only making it worse. You werenât healing. You couldnât, not with her constantly in your space, constantly pulling at the wounds sheâd caused.
By the second year, Natasha finally saw it. You needed space, needed time to mend, and she wasnât helping at all. So, she stopped. Stopped the flowers, the late-night phone calls, the messages begging for you to forgive her, telling you she loved you. She stopped trying to push her way back into your life because it was only making things harder for you.Â
She watched from a distance instead, in silence.Â
But despite the distance she put between you both, she couldnât stop loving you. She could never. It was something she couldnât turn off, no matter how hard she tried. Even when she forced herself to stay away, her heart still ached for you in a way that nothing else could heal. You were everywhereâin the way her daughters smiled, in the moments when she was alone with her thoughts. Sheâd think of you when sheâd go to the grocery store, remembering all the food you liked and didnât like. Sheâd think of you at night when sheâs in bed, always moving closer to your side of the bed, imagining you were still there with her. And even though she knew she had to let you go for your own sake, a part of her would always be tethered to you. It didnât matter how much time passed. She could never stop loving you, no matter how much it hurt.
Itâs been three years now. Three long, heavy years since the divorce. But in the wake of it, as the dust settled and the hurt slowly gave way to something manageable, a routine. One that neither of you ever explicitly discussed, maybe just briefly, but one that simply came to be, like a truce.
And Natasha hadnât been with anyone since then. She hadnât even entertained the idea. There were no late-night flings, no fleeting attempts to fill the void. Because how could she? How could anyone compare to the life she had built with you, even though it had crumbled? It had been such a stupid mistake on her part when it happened, and she promised herself she wouldnât let that happen again, even if you didnât want her anymore. She couldnât bring herself to be with anyone else, and deep down, she knew it was because part of her was still yours.
Nina and Lily, your two little girls, were the threads that still tied you and Natasha together. Nina, with her wild curls and mischievous grin, only four but already full of curiosity and energy, was in preschool. Lily, more thoughtful, quieter but with an infectious laugh, had just started first grade. They were young, their lives filled with playdates, scribbled drawings, and the occasional scraped knee. They didnât fully understand why Mommy and Mama lived in different houses now, why they didnât all sit together at the table for dinner anymore. But they adjusted in their own way.
Natasha would pick them up from school most afternoons when she can. Youâd drop them off in the mornings, coffee in hand, always on the way to work. You were working now. You didnât really work that much when you were pregnant with the girls and Natasha always insisted on taking care of you. On weekends when Natasha didnât have a mission or some urgent task pulling her away, sheâd have them over at her place. Theyâd spend Saturday nights watching movies or baking cookies, or playing games until they were all too tired to continue. And then Sunday morning, she would make them pancakes, the same way you used to. It was a rhythm that worked, one that kept things steady for Nina and Lily, even when things between you and Natasha remained unresolved.
Every time Natasha saw them, it tugged at her heart. The way Lily looked at her with those wide, innocent eyes, so full of trust. The way Nina giggled when Natasha spun her around, her tiny hands reaching up to her mother like nothing had ever changed. They were growing so fast, right in front of her, and yet Natasha couldnât help but feel like time was slipping through her fingers. Three years had gone by in the blink of an eye, and even though things were betterâsmootherâbetween the two of you now, that gnawing regret never fully left her.
But for the girls, she stayed strong. She showed up, she stuck to the routine. It was the least she could do, even if, when the weekends were over and she dropped them back at your place, she found herself lingering just a second too long, watching as you took their small hands and guided them back inside. Wondering if, somehow, it could have all been different.
The sun hung low in the sky as Natasha drove through familiar streets, the scent of fast food wafting through the car, mingling with the laughter of her daughters in the backseat. The afternoon light cast a golden glow on the girlsâ faces, illuminating Ninaâs bright eyes and Lilyâs gentle smile as they excitedly talked about their day.
But as the laughter filled the car, Ninaâs innocent question pierced through the cheerful atmosphere, shattering the fragile bubble they had created.Â
âMama, why donât you sleep at home with us anymore?â
The question hung in the air and Natashaâs heart dropped, the warmth evaporating in an instant. She gripped the steering wheel tighter, forcing a smile that felt painfully strained. Silence enveloped them, thick with heavy emotions and memories she wished she could shield her daughters from. She glanced in the rearview mirror, catching a glimpse of Ninaâs expectant gaze, a small frown tugging at her lips as she awaited an answer.
âUm, wellâŠâ Natasha began, her voice faltering. âYou know, Mama has⊠a lot of work to do. Sometimes itâs just easier for me to sleep at my own place.â
Even as she spoke, the lie twisted in her stomach, sharp and uncomfortable. She could see the flicker of disappointment in Ninaâs eyes, a reflection of the confusion and sadness that still lingered between the lines of their new normal.
Lily, sensing the shift in the mood, chimed in, âWe can share a bed, Mama!â
Natasha smiled softly, fighting back the flood of emotions threatening to overwhelm her. âThank you, baby, but⊠this is how things are for now.â
Her heart clenched at Lilyâs innocent declaration, each word a dagger piercing deeper into her already heavy heart. The car felt suddenly suffocating, filled with the echoes of memories and unresolved feelings. The gentle hum of the car faded into the background, and all she could hear was the soft thrum of her daughtersâ voices and the relentless reminder of the pain they were all carrying.
âMy bed is big enough!â Lily insisted again, her eyes wide with hope. âAnd I think Mommy misses you, too. Sometimes, I see her crying at night.â
Natashaâs breath caught in her throat. The image of you, alone in the dark, tears glistening on your cheeks, tore through her defenses, a reminder of the consequences of her choices. Guilt washed over her, crashing down with a force that made it hard to breathe.
âSweetheart,â Natasha said softly, her voice trembling slightly as she fought to maintain her composure, âItâs okay for Mommy to be sad sometimes, you know? We all feel sad sometimes.â
âBut I donât want her to be sad,â Lily replied, her voice small and earnest. âWe could go to Auntie Wandaâs cabin and have ice cream parties and movie nights like before!â
The wistfulness in Lilyâs tone echoed Natashaâs own desires, the aching wish to turn back the clock and reclaim the happiness they had once shared. But Natasha knew that life was never that simple.Â
âI know, baby,â she said, her voice thick with emotion. âAnd I want that too. We just⊠have to be patient.â
Lily frowned, her small brows knitting together in confusion. âDo you still love mommy?â
The question hung in the air. Her heart raced, and she glanced at her daughters in the rearview mirror, the truth of her feelings spilling over like an unguarded secret.Â
âOf course I do,â she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper, but she didnât hesitate.
Nina chimed in, her conviction unwavering. âMaybe if we all hug and give her lots of kisses, she wonât be sad anymore!â
She wanted to laugh at the sheer innocence of their logic, but it only deepened the ache in her chest. âI donât think itâs that simple, baby.â
Lily tilted her head, her expression earnest and unwavering. âBut, weâre a family, and families love each other.â
Natasha only smiled.
As they continued down the road, the fading sunlight cast warm shadows in the car, but the weight of their words settled heavily in Natashaâs chest. Lily fell silent soon after, her small face pensive as she stared out the window, the world outside a blur of colors. Natashaâs heart ached for her, wishing desperately that she could turn back time, wishing that the nights spent apart didnât feel like an insurmountable distance.
As she pulled up to your house, the familiar flutter of anxiety danced in her stomach. She could hear the muffled giggles of her girls in the backseat, their excitement palpable as they chattered more about their day. But as she stepped out of the car and approached the front door, her heart began to race for a different reason entirely.
When you opened the door, Natasha felt the air shift around her. There you stood, framed in the soft glow of the entryway light, and her breath caught in her throat. You were breathtaking, wearing an elegant black dress that hugged your figure in all the right places. The fabric glimmered subtly as you moved, catching the light with each breath. Your hair was fixed neatly by your shoulders, and your makeup was flawlessly applied.Â
For a moment, Natasha was transported back to the nights when the two of you would dress up for special occasions, the thrill of anticipation sparking between you. But now, that thrill was laced with an ache that felt as sharp as it was familiar.
âHi, mommy!â Lily squealed, bursting with energy as she darted past you into the house, closely followed by Nina, who gave you a quick hug before joining her sister.
âHey, girls,â you greeted them softly, your voice warm but tinged with an undercurrent of something unspoken. You stepped back to allow them inside, your gaze flickering to Natasha, who stood momentarily rooted to the spot, taking in the sight of you.
Without breaking eye contact, you rushed over to the mirror that hung just inside the entryway, your movements quick and graceful as you fumbled with your earrings. Natashaâs heart ached at the sight, realizing how beautifully you carried yourself, even through the chaos of their past. She walked inside hesitantly, closing the front door behind her, swallowing the lump in her throat as she slowly walked further in.Â
âWow, Mommy! You look so pretty!â Nina beamed.
âThank you, honey,â you replied with a soft smile, your voice brightening as you turned your attention to the girls.Â
Natasha lingered by the wall, unsure of what to do with her hands as the girls raced off into the living room, their laughter filling the house with warmth. She listened when you asked the girls quick questions about their day at school, but all she could focus on was you. She stood there, still as a statue, her fingers brushing nervously over the seam of her jacket, as her eyes found you again.
You moved gracefully through the hallway, your dress shimmering faintly with each step. She felt a pang in her chest, something akin to longing but deeper, more raw. She hadnât seen you like this in so longâdressed up, glowing, completely at ease in your skin. Her breath hitched slightly, catching on the memories that rose unbidden in her mind, of nights when sheâd watch you just like this, mesmerized by the smallest of movements. You never failed to amaze her every time.
But now, it feels different. There was a distance between you that wasnât just physical, and Natasha could feel it more sharply than ever. Yet, despite the distance, she found herself rooted in place, unable to tear her gaze away. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, feeling awkward and out of place, like a visitor in what was once her home.
You hadnât said much since opening the door, offering a quiet greeting before slipping back into the rhythm of your routine. But it didnât matter. Natashaâs thoughts were too loud to be drowned out by small talk anyway. All she could think about was how beautiful you looked, how effortless you made everything seem. The curve of your neck as you bent slightly to adjust your earring, the way your lips pressed together in concentrationâit all made her feel like a stranger witnessing something intimate, something she no longer had the right to witness. For a moment, her fingers twitched with the impulse to reach out, to touch you, to feel the warmth of your skin under her palm. But she held herself back, knowing that her place in your life now was nothing like it used to be. Instead, she remained where she was, standing awkwardly by the wall, her heart heavy with unspoken words and feelings she didnât know how to express anymore.
You must have felt her staring, because you glanced up at her briefly from where you stood by the mirror. The moment your eyes met, Natasha felt a surge of emotion that almost knocked the wind out of herâregret, longing, admirationâall tangled together. She swallowed hard, but couldnât find the words to say anything. What could she say, anyway? Nothing would change the fact that she was the reason things were the way they were.
And yet, she couldnât help but think of how beautiful you were. How beautiful youâd always been. How youâd managed to slip right out of her fingers.Â
Natashaâs hands twitched at her sides, the yearning almost unbearable as she watched you. The way your dress hugged your frame, the soft curve of your neck as you finished adjusting your earringsâit stirred something deep inside her, a longing so fierce it nearly took her breath away. She wanted to reach out, to close the distance between you and wrap you in her arms. She wanted to hold you like she used to, when everything was easier, when you were hers and there was no wall of hurt between you.
But now, it feels impossible. Every time she considered moving closer, something stopped herâthe guilt, the regret, the knowledge that she no longer had the right to that kind of intimacy with you. Not after everything. Not after the way things had ended, fractured by her own mistakes.
Still, the desire was overwhelming, almost painful. She couldnât help itâher eyes followed the way your fingers brushed against your collarbone as you fixed a stray hair, and her heart ached with the thought of reaching out, of pulling you against her, of whispering that she was sorry, that she had never stopped loving you. God, she wanted to hold you so badly. Just for a moment. Just to feel that connection again, to remind herself that once, not too long ago, you had been hers.Â
But instead, then she saw you struggling with the clasp of your necklace.Â
Her hesitation was palpable as she took a small step forward, closing the gap between you. Her heart pounded in her chest, every movement deliberate and slow, like she was afraid that even the air between you was fragile. She saw you fumble with the clasp of your necklace, your fingers shaking ever so slightly in your rush. Her own hands twitched, the need to help overwhelming her, but she hesitated for a beat longer. She wasnât sure she had the right to step into your space, to touch you again, even for something as simple as this.
But when you let out a frustrated huff, she took a breath and moved closer, her presence soft but undeniable as she stood just behind you. Gently, her fingers brushed against your skin, so light you might not have even felt it at first. Carefully, she took the delicate chain from your hands and closed the clasp at the back of your neck.
Her touch lingered just a second too long. She couldnât help it. The warmth of your skin under her fingers, the proximity, the way your scent filled her sensesâit was all too much and not enough at the same time. The faint scent of your perfume washed over her, and it hit her all at once. You smelled exactly the way she remembered, like something warm and comforting, but with an edge that made her dizzy. It was intoxicating. She glanced up for just a moment, catching your reflection in the mirror, but her eyes dropped quickly, too scared to meet yours. She didnât trust herself to look into your eyes and not say everything she was feeling. It felt like a betrayal of her own heart to be this close to you, yet still so far away. Her hands fell back to her sides, clenched into soft fists, fighting the urge to keep touching you. She stepped back, quietly swallowing the ache that seemed to settle in her chest.Â
âYou look beautiful,â Natasha breathes, almost afraid to say the words, but it came out before she could even think about it.Â
âThank you,â you said quickly, your voice barely more than a whisper, the quiet words hanging in the air.
She froze for a split second, the simple phrase sending an unexpected ripple through her. It was such a small thingâa polite acknowledgement, nothing moreâbut to her, it felt loaded with everything that had been left unsaid for years. Then, she forced a small smile, though you couldnât see it, her eyes still fixed downward as she stepped back from you.Â
âYouâre welcome,â she murmured, her voice just as soft, though it felt like a lie. She wasnât welcome. Not anymore.
She watched as you turned back to the mirror, adjusting your hair slightly and smoothing the fabric of your dress. You looked beautifulâbreathtaking, reallyâbut all she could focus on was the sadness in your quiet thank you. She opened her mouth as if to say something more, but no words came. Instead, Natasha let the silence speak for her, the tension between you heavy and unresolved, much like everything that had been left behind.Â
âWhoâs the lucky guy?â Natasha asked, trying to keep her voice light, though it came out more strained than she intended.Â
The words had been on the tip of her tongue the moment she saw you in that dress, but she hated herself for asking, for making it sound so casual when the question felt like it was burning her from the inside.
You released a small huff, something resembling a smile flickering at the corners of your mouth, though it didnât quite reach your eyes. You could see the way her jaw clenched in the mirror.
âItâs just a work thing,â you muttered, turning slightly in the mirror as if to busy yourself with something else, but Natasha could tell it was an attempt to deflect the conversation. You had always done thatâshrugged things off when they felt too heavy, too personal.
But Natasha wasnât stupid. She knew it wasnât just a work thing. She could feel it in her gut, the way you said it so softly, so dismissively. And yet, she didnât push. Couldnât. Instead, she let out a quiet laugh, though there was no humor in it.Â
âWell, you look really nice,â she added, her voice a bit more gentle now, her eyes softening as they roamed over you once more. She hated how small her words felt, like she was grasping for something, anything, to make sense of the distance between you.Â
You didnât say anything at first, just nodded, almost absentmindedly, still adjusting the clasp of your earrings. Natasha stood there, helpless, her hands twitching at her sides as she watched you prepare to leave for an evening that didnât involve her anymore. It wasnât supposed to feel like thisâthis ache of wanting you, this regret that sat like a stone in her chest.Â
You glanced at her, your eyes flickering with indecision before they darted to the clock on the wall.Â
âShit, I forgot to text the babysitter,â you muttered, already pulling out your phone. You were halfway through typing the message when Natashaâs voice cut through the quiet tension of the room.
âI can watch them,â she offered quickly, almost too quickly, like she had been waiting for the opportunity. There was a soft urgency in her tone, something that made your fingers pause over the screen.
You hesitated, looking at her fully now, your gaze searching her face. She stood there, trying to appear nonchalant, but you could see the slight tension in her shoulders, the way her eyes flickered between you and the door, as if bracing herself for your response. It wasnât the first time she had offered, but something about tonightâabout her standing there, in your home, so close yet feeling so far awayâmade you hesitate.
âNatasha, itâs so last minute, and youâre probably busyââ
âIâm not busy.â
There was silence.Â
âAre you sure?â you said, your voice trailing off. It wasnât that you didnât trust her with the kids, in fact, you trusted her with the girls more than anyone.
âOf course. I promise, Iâll make sure theyâre asleep by the time you get back,â Natasha said softly, taking a small step closer, as if to bridge the gap between you.
You lingered for a moment longer, the phone still in your hand, thumb hovering over the screen. Natasha stood there, waiting, her gaze steady but gentle, almost like she was afraid to breathe too loudly in case you changed your mind. There was a hesitation in the air, thick with all the memories and tension that seemed to live between the two of you now.
Finally, you sighed, the tension in your shoulders easing just slightly. âOkay,â you murmured, the word coming out soft but resigned. âBut only if youâre sure.â
Natasha nodded immediately, as if there had never been a question. âIâm sure.â
You watched her for a moment, still not quite as sure as she was, but there was something about the way she looked at you that made you relent. Maybe it was the familiarity of her presence, or the way she always seemed so certain when it came to the girls. You wanted to believe it would be fine, that it wouldnât hurt to let her help, just this once.
âAlright,â you said again, this time a little firmer. You tucked your phone away, glancing toward the living room where the girlsâ voices echoed softly in the distance. âI might be back late, though.â
âI can handle it,â Natasha reassured you with a small smile, though there was a flicker of something in her eyes. Relief, maybe. âYou go have fun.â
You nodded, still hesitant but knowing that you had little choice now. With one last glance at her, you grabbed your purse from the table and walked toward the door, feeling Natashaâs eyes on you the whole way. Just before you left, you stopped, hand on the doorknob, and turned to look at her one more time.
âOkay,â you said quietly. Natasha didnât respond right away, just gave you a small nod, her eyes soft, watching you like she was still trying to figure out if this was real.
Your phone buzzed with a sudden chime, the noise breaking through the quiet air between you and Natasha. You flinched just slightly, caught off guard, but Natashaâs eyes never left you. That unwavering stare, intense and full of something you couldnât quite placeâregret, longing, maybe bothâlingered as you glanced down at your phone.
âOh, thatâs⊠my coworker. Sheâs here to pick me upâŠâ you said softly, reading the message on the screen.Â
You didnât look up immediately, feeling the weight of Natashaâs gaze settle over you like a thick blanket, almost suffocating. There was another beat of silence, her expression barely changing, though something flickered in her eyes at the word âshe.â It was so subtle, you almost missed it. Her lips pressed together in a thin line, but she didnât say anything. Instead, she just nodded once, stiffly, her face carefully neutral, though you could feel the tension in the air shift.
You turned toward the door again, suddenly aware of how small the space between the two of you felt. The air was heavy, like it held all the words neither of you had said over the years. You hesitated, hand on the knob, the weight of the moment pressing down on you, making it hard to breathe.
Natashaâs voice, soft but strained, reached you before you could turn the handle. âBe safe tonight.â
You froze, the words hitting you in a way you hadnât expected. They were simple, but coming from her, you knew they meant so much more.
As you stepped out of the house and closed the door behind you, the cool evening air hit your skin, and for a moment, you paused on the front steps. You could hear the muffled sounds of the girls laughing inside, and the thought of leaving them for some work party made your heart twist.Â
Truth be told, you didnât even want to go. The idea of mingling, making small talk, pretending everything was fineâit felt exhausting before it even started. But your coworkers had been persistent, insisting you needed to get out more, that it would be good for you. They meant well, of course. They saw the toll the divorce had taken on you, how the weight of it had settled into your bones, leaving you quieter, more withdrawn. And though you tried to hide it, the loneliness was written all over your face. They probably thought this was what you neededâa night of distraction, a chance to be someone other than the person who had been left shattered after everything fell apart. But standing there, under the dim glow of the porch light, you felt a tug in your chest, a sense of dread thinking about the night ahead.
Natasha lingered in your thoughts as always, the way she had silently helped you with your necklace, the soft brush of her fingers against your skin sending shivers down your spine. You hated to admit it, but you missed her soft touches, her gentle smile, the way she would look at you like you held her world in your hands. The more you thought about it, you realized that it never really went away. And that look in her eyes, the one she always tried to hide but never quite couldâit haunted you now as you made your way toward the car waiting at the curb.
With a sigh, you slipped into the passenger seat, greeting your friend with a faint smile that didnât quite reach your eyes. As the car pulled away, you found yourself staring out the window, thinking not about the party or the people waiting for you there, but about the house you had just leftâthe home you used to share with Natasha, the life you once had before everything fell apart. Maybe tonight would be a distraction, or maybe it would just be another reminder of everything youâd lost. Either way, it felt like one more step away from her, and that hurt more than you wanted to admit.
You were grateful for your friendsâthose who always wanted to help you after what happened.
Wanda was the one who helped you through most of it.Â
In the beginning, when everything felt like it was crumbling beneath you, Wanda had been there. Sheâd been the first to know what had happened with Natashaâthe first to see the hurt blooming in your eyes, the way your voice cracked when you spoke, even when you tried so hard to sound strong. When sheâd found out, Wanda was so angry, her fury simmering just beneath her skin. Word traveled quickly at the compound; someone mustâve overheard. But youâd heard, too, about how sheâd cornered Natasha, her voice cold and sharp, her words unforgiving.
âWhy did you do it?â Wanda had demanded of Natasha, her tone somewhere between outrage and heartbreak, and the confrontation left Natasha speechless, stripped of the practiced poise that she carried like armor. You never wanted to know all of what was said, but the rumors filled in the gaps; Wandaâs words were scathing, a fierce defense of the person Natasha had hurt most. She was protective, fiercely loyal, and in that moment, you felt the strength of a bond you hadnât fully appreciated until you needed it most.
And it wasnât just the initial shock, eitherâWanda stayed. She kept you afloat on the days when the hurt felt too deep, kept you from slipping further into the void of your own heartbreak. She had this way of knowing when the silence was too heavy, when you needed to be pulled from the edge of your own emotions. She never let you wallow, and yet she didnât rush you to move on either; sheâd bring you back, her voice gentle, but firm, reminding you that you were stronger than this pain, that youâd heal, that you still had so much left to give to the world.
When the decision for a divorce finally weighed heavy on you, Wanda was the first person you told. The words had come out choked, but clear, and though she didnât say much at first, her hand had reached for yours, holding it tightly as you tried to steady yourself. She kept asking if you were sure, her eyes steady, searching yours for any trace of doubt or hesitation. She knew you loved Natasha. And she knew Natasha was madly in love with you. But she wanted you to be certain, not out of judgment, but out of a desire to protect you, to make sure you werenât making a decision youâd regret. She knew the depths of your love for Natasha and how much this was costing you; she wanted you to find peace in your choice, even if that peace felt miles away.
She had always been quietly supportive, even when things between you and Natasha fell apart. She never pried, never asked too many questions, but she had a way of knowing when you needed someone. You knew it was hard being your friend and Natashaâs friend.
But a few weeks ago, when she helped you pick out the dress you were wearing tonight, you could tell she was trying to lift your spirits, offering a distraction with her usual good-natured humor. She had pulled you into a few boutiques, tossing dresses over the fitting room door while she waited for your approval. When you finally stepped out in the sleek black dress you were wearing now, Wanda gave you that lookâher eyes bright with approval, a grin spreading across her face.
âYouâre going to knock them dead,â she had said with a playful wink, her tone light, but there was something else in her voice too, something softer.
You hadnât said much in response then, brushing off the compliment with a smile. You hadnât really felt like going to the party, but Wanda was insistent that it would be good for you, to dress up, to get out.Â
And despite your silence on the matter, you knew she supported you and Natashaâalways had. She never quite explained why, but you could sense it. Maybe she believed in second chances, or maybe she saw something in the two of you that you couldnât see anymore. Even though she hadnât talked about it much, you could feel her quiet faith in your relationship, like she was holding onto a hope youâd long since let go of. It was comforting, in a way, knowing that someone still believed in you and Natasha, even when you werenât sure if you believed in it yourself anymore.
And from time to time, Wanda had a gentle way of bringing up her old cabin in the countryside, each suggestion delivered so casually that you mightâve let it slip past if it hadnât been for the significance lingering just underneath her words.Â
She didnât live there anymore, now that her and Vision moved to New Jersey a lot recently with the twins. But every Thanksgiving, with her permission, the cabin had been your havenâa place where the worldâs noise faded, replaced by the simple sounds of fire crackling, the murmur of conversations that stretched late into the night, and the delighted laughter of the girls as they played under the trees. It was as if the cabin held its own magic, a place suspended in time, where warmth radiated from more than just the fireplace, and you could almost believe in the simplicity of those happy moments lasting forever.
The girls loved it there especiallyâthey loved the air, the trees, the comfort of a cozy cabin, playing music on Wandaâs old record player, or drinking hot chocolate Natasha loved to make for them. One winter, you spent the weekend there with them and Lily had just learned how to build a snowman with Natasha. Nina was still a little too young, but she found joy in trying to run around, catching the falling snowflakes with her tongue. You got nothing but good memories from going there.
The first time Wanda mentioned going back, it felt impossible to picture without Natasha. Even imagining it brought a sense of loss so heavy it threatened to shatter the memory entirely. The cabin without her was like watching the film reel of your life with half the scenes missingâdisjointed, fractured, unable to find the comfort it once held. When youâd tried to explain, Wanda had only nodded, a knowing look softening her face as if she understood the unspoken things that weighed down your words. But over the months, she kept mentioning it, in small ways, like a quiet refrain.
âThen bring Natasha,â sheâd said last, her voice so gentle it almost blended with the room. Her gaze, steady and unwavering, had landed on you with a quiet faith that made you feel exposed.
Youâd wanted to respond, to give voice to the reasons why it felt impossible, to explain the ache that lingered too deeply to ignore. But the words had caught in your throat, your thoughts tangled in memories that had once been warm but now held the sting of something fractured. So youâd only managed a soft smile, allowing the silence to stretch between you as you turned the conversation away, knowing Wanda would understand.
And yet, her words stayed with you, lingering long after, wrapped in a fragile hope that you hadnât dared to touch. Wanda believed in something you werenât sure you could reach for, a belief that the cabin could be a bridge, a place where memories could be revisited, reconnectedâmaybe even healed.Â
The idea stayed with you, filling your mind, daring you to wonder if, perhaps, she was right.
It was late by the time you finally unlocked the front door, the echo of the party still buzzing faintly in your head, softened by a light haze from the few drinks youâd had. The house was dark and still as you slipped inside.
As you moved further in, adjusting your eyes to the dim light, you saw them.Â
Natasha was stretched out on the couch, her body softened in the shadows, and there, tangled in her arms, lay your two little girls. Nina and Lily were nestled close, their small bodies curled and sprawled across her, their hands loosely gripping her shirt, their faces pressed into her chest as if she were their entire world. Natashaâs head was tilted back, her breathing deep and steady, the sort of calm that only came when everything around her was right, if only for that fleeting moment.
You paused there in the doorway, just watching them, a warmth settling in your chest, bittersweet and familiar. This was the woman youâd once called home. And maybe sheâd made mistakesâmistakes that fractured everything between you, mistakes that left bruises you werenât sure would ever fade. But seeing her now, surrounded by the soft rise and fall of the girlsâ breathing, you were reminded that sheâd never once faltered as their mother.
For a long moment, you just stood there, absorbing the scene, the beauty of it, the softness that was so rare in Natasha, brought out only by the girls resting so peacefully against her. A part of you ached, the part that remembered when that was your world, tooâthe intimacy, the trust, the feeling that this was where you belonged. But now, standing alone in front of her, you knew it was different.
âNatashaâŠâ
The name leaves your lips in a choked whisper, so quiet you barely hear it yourself. Itâs both a word and a breath, carrying years of ache, of longing, of memories buried beneath the hurt. She stirs softly at the sound, her eyes blinking open, unfocused in the dimness, but immediately careful, instinctively cradling Nina and Lily closer to her, her instincts as a mother overriding everything else. She lifts her head, and in the low light, her eyes meet yoursâsurprised, still a bit hazy with sleep, yet touched by something tender, something deeply aware.
A faint smile tugs at your lips, almost without your permission. You nod toward the girls, your voice so soft it hardly disturbs the quiet of the room.Â
âWe should get them to bed,â you murmur, the words gentle, careful, as though youâre trying not to disrupt a delicate peace.
Natasha gives a barely perceptible nod, her eyes lingering on you for a moment longer than necessary, as though sheâs searching for something. Then, she looks down at the girls, her features softening into something achingly vulnerable. She shifts, moving slowly so as not to disturb Lily, her hands moving with the practiced care of someone whoâs done this a hundred times over but who never takes it for granted.
You step forward, slipping your arms beneath Nina, feeling the gentle weight of her small body settle against you as you carefully lift her, your heart swelling with that instinctive protectiveness youâd felt since the day she was born. Natasha mirrors you, tenderly sliding her arms under Lily, her movements so gentle itâs as though sheâs afraid to wake her from whatever dream sheâs lost in. Together, you make your way down the hallway, your footsteps muffled on floor.
Natasha trails a few steps behind you, her gaze lingering on the small bundle in your arms. Thereâs something undeniably tender in the way she holds Lily close, quiet in every step as if even her footfalls could shatter the peace thatâs settled over the house. She watches as you cradle Nina with the same delicate care, and she canât help but feel a pang of somethingânostalgia, perhaps, or maybe itâs something deeper, something achingly familiar and distant at the same time.
You reach the doorway to their shared bedroom, and you both instinctively pause, a silent agreement hanging between you as you ease open the door just enough to slip inside. The room is softly lit by a nightlight in the corner casting a warm, gentle glow. You move first, bending to lay Nina down into her bed, brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead as she settles into her pillow, the smallest smile flickering across her sleeping face.
Natasha steps forward, carrying Lily with the same care, lowering her slowly, as if she was releasing something precious. She smooths the blankets over Lilyâs small form, her hand lingering on her daughterâs shoulder for a brief moment, her thumb brushing in a gentle, protective arc.
You both stand back, side by side, your eyes on the two little figures in the bed, their steady breaths filling the silence between you.Â
You turn first, giving the room one last look before stepping into the hallway, leaving the door just a crack open. Natasha lingers, her gaze falling on the spot where you had stood only moments before. She doesnât follow immediately, instead letting herself absorb of the room, the weight of it pressing on her chest.
Then, Natashaâs feet shuffle lightly on the carpet, her shoulders tight, her movements more careful than usual. She takes a breath, then steps into the hallway, spotting you just ahead, walking back down the dimly lit corridor, your shoulders softly sloped in a way she recognizes well. Her pulse stutters, a swell of unvoiced words caught in her throat as she trails behind, her eyes fixed on your silhouette.
You pause, turning slowly, the faintest glint of something heavy in your eyes. Natasha freezes, almost holding her breath as you look up at her, gaze wavering, like youâre fighting with words youâre not sure you should say. She knows this look well enough to brace herself, the feeling of dread curling in her stomach. Her shoulders stiffen, instinctively preparing for the worst as the silence stretches, each second laced with something unspeakable.
âI⊠wanted to talk to you about something,â you say gently, almost catching her by surprise.Â
Natashaâs shoulders drop a fraction, her breath catching at your words. She hadnât expected that, not tonight. Her gaze flickers, uncertain but hopeful, as she steps closer, nodding her head eagerly.Â
âOkay,â Natasha murmurs, voice barely above a whisper. Sheâs trying to appear calm, but thereâs a tension in her eyes, a cautious vulnerability that betrays her. She searches your face for any hint, any sign of what youâre about to say.Â
âLilyâs birthday is coming up,â you say softly, your gaze finally lifting to meet Natashaâs, even if just for a moment.
Natasha nods slowly, trying to read between the lines, unsure of what youâre really thinking. She remembers every birthday, every milestone, how you used to plan together, side by side, laughing over cake designs and decorations.
âLily keeps askingâŠâ you start, your voice so quiet Natasha has to strain to hear. She watches you, noting the way you hesitate, choosing your words with care. âIf we could go back to Wandaâs cabin. You know the girls like it thereâŠâ
The suggestion hangs heavy between you. Her mind floods with memories of those tripsâWandaâs warm cabin, the girlsâ laughter, the four of you bundled in sweaters, sharing cozy meals and evening walks in the crisp, autumn air. Those times felt like forever in the best way possible, like nothing could disturb the harmony youâd built together.
âYeah⊠yeah, they love it,â Natasha murmurs, her voice catching. Her eyes are distant, clouded with thoughts she isnât sure sheâs allowed to express. The idea of returning feels almost like opening a door she thought youâd closed for good. Still, the prospect brings a bittersweet hope, like maybe a piece of the life she lost could be revived, if only for several days.Â
You shift uncomfortably, glancing away as though admitting this feels too vulnerable, as if voicing it aloud might betray too much of what youâre holding back.
Your words come out soft, almost as if theyâd slipped through a crack in your resolve. âItâd be weird to go without you⊠For them, I mean.âÂ
The admission lingers, tentative, like an echo that neither of you expected. Natasha stands there, motionless, her gaze locked on you, and you can feel the weight of her eyes on you. She doesnât respond, perhaps because she doesnât know how to, or maybe because thereâs nothing she could say that would sound right after everything that happened.
You keep your eyes on the floorâthis reluctant honesty shared after years of trying to keep a cautious distance. Thereâs a tenderness in the air, one that feels unfamiliar now, something you havenât allowed yourself to acknowledge since the divorce. Natasha doesnât move, and for a moment, you wonder if sheâll reach for you, break the wall of silence. But she just stays there, rooted, like sheâs afraid that any movement might shatter the understanding youâve found yourselves in.
âMaybe, we could⊠all go,â Natasha offers finally, her voice hushed. âIf thatâs what you want.â
You glance up, catching her eyes for the first time in what feels like ages. Thereâs a weight there, a heaviness she carries, lingering regret woven into her eyes. You break the gaze quickly, focusing on a spot on the wall behind her, holding onto the barrier youâve had to build to keep yourself steady.Â
âItâs what Lily wants.â
Natashaâs lips press into a thin line, nodding slowly, her fingers fidgeting by her sides. The truth is plain between you: this isnât really about what either of you want. Itâs about the tiny person whoâs still dreaming down the hall, in her own perfect, unbroken world where her family feels whole. And somehow, even after everything, you both want to keep it that way for her. The idea of doing this trip together feels as precarious as it does bittersweet. But the image of Lilyâs face when she sees you all together, the way she lights up at the mention of Wandaâs cabin, thatâs enough to ease the ache.
Natasha leaves late that night, a soft click of the door echoing in the house after sheâs gone. Youâre left in the quiet, the weight of the decision settling slowly over you. Youâd both agreedâtwo nights, maybe threeâjust enough time for the girls to enjoy their favorite place, to breathe in the crisp air and marvel at the autumn leaves.
You exhale, leaning against the counter, the thought of those days stirring up a mix of emotions youâve worked so hard to bury. Thereâs excitement for the girls, the way their faces will light up at seeing Wandaâs cabin again. You can almost picture Nina and Lily scrambling around the place, giggling and squealing, thrilled at the rare chance to have both their parents there together, even if things have changed.
As you glance down the hall where theyâre still sleeping, you wonder what it will feel like to play at something close to normal, if only for a few days. For Lily, for Ninaâyou would try to make it work.
A few weeks later, Natasha arrives in her old grey Lada Niva. You could hear the familiar rumble of the engine before you even see the car pull up. Youâd almost forgotten the way it soundsâthe low, steady hum that used to fill the spaces between you two, back when things were simpler. The car, a relic from another time, was a piece of Natasha that never changed, a constant that the girls had grown to love just as much as she did. It had been years since youâd last ridden in it, since those family road trips that now felt like distant memories you barely dared to touch.
Nina and Lily donât hold back, rushing to the door as Natasha parks, their excited squeals echoing as they shout, âMama!â and clamber down the front steps.Â
You watch as she steps out, smiling with that familiar, easy warmth that once felt like home. She crouches to their level, her arms opening as they run to her, and you canât help but feel the smallest tug at your heart as she lifts them both in a swift, effortless motion, twirling them around like old times. Her laughter, soft and genuine, floats over to you as you linger in the doorway, a faint, bittersweet ache stirring within you.
She looks up from the girls, her gaze meeting yours, and you catch the flicker of something in her eyesâmaybe nostalgia, maybe uncertainty, or maybe something else entirely. You clear your throat, trying to shake off the unease, then grab the bags by the door. You brace yourself for the weight of them, but as you take a step forward, Natashaâs shadow moves alongside you, close enough that you feel her presence before you hear her voice.
âHey, let me,â she murmurs, her voice soft and warm.Â
Before you can protest, her hands reach for the bags, fingers grazing yours for the briefest second. Itâs a touch so light that it leaves a ghostly warmth lingering on your skin, but itâs enough to catch you off guard, your breath hitching as she gently eases the bags out of your hands.
You watch as she walks over to the car, her movements steady and familiar, the ease with which she lifts the weight somehow comforting and unsettling all at once. Her shoulders are relaxed, yet thereâs a focus in the way she sets the bags in the trunk. She turns back to you, a faint smile pulling at her lips, and for a fleeting second, the past seems to slip into the present.
You tear your gaze away to walk over and open the passenger door and slide in, the scent of old leather and faint traces of Natashaâs cologne unmistakable. Itâs strange, slipping back into this space, sitting beside her again like this, feeling the past brushing close but staying just out of reach.
The drive was quiet for the most part, other than the sound of the girlsâ favorite songs playing on the car radio. Natashaâs hands grip the steering wheel with ease, and her driving is as steady as it always was. Outside the window, the trees blur by, softened by late autumn light, and you lose yourself in the landscape.Â
Every now and then, Natashaâs gaze strays from the road to linger on you. She catches herself, tries to refocus, but her eyes drift back almost instinctively, drawn to the way you sit, wrapped in your own thoughts. Her hand hovers just slightly above her thigh, muscles tensing with the urge to reach out and place it on yours, an instinct that feels so ingrained itâs almost muscle memory. But she pulls back, fingers flexing as they return to the wheel. She remembers all the times sheâd reach over without thinking, her palm resting against your thigh.Â
And as she glances at you once more, her chest tightens, that feeling of missing you growing stronger each and every day.Â
âThereâs more trees now,â Natasha mutters, driving along the dirt path, getting closer towards the destination.Â
The cabin sits quietly in the woods, nestled under a canopy of tall pines. Itâs quiet and privateâthe next house probably miles away. The air is cool and crisp, smelling faintly of woodsmoke, and when you text Wanda to let her know youâve arrived, her reply is short, almost comforting in a way, telling you to enjoy yourselves with a tiny smiley face at the end. She doesnât need to say much; she knows what this place means. She knows it has its own kind of healing, as subtle as the wind rustling through the trees.
When you get out of the car, you unload your things, the girlsâ things, and settle in to the cabin.
The girls are thrilled to be here. They take to the cabin with the kind of joy only children can muster, filling the space with giggles that spill out through open windows. They chase each other around the clearing, calling for Natasha to play along, and she does, jumping into their games with an ease thatâs somehow both comforting and bittersweet. Sheâs gentle with them, her patience surprising in moments when the girls demand more and more of her. She spins them in her arms, laughs with them, gets them to try new tricksâwhatever they ask, she does. Sheâs always been a good mother. Youâve never doubted that.
You find yourself watching from the porch, hands wrapped around a mug thatâs gone cold, rooted in place by the weight of memories. Sometimes you slip inside, needing the familiar rhythm of chopping and stirring, needing to focus on something simple, something that grounds you. The scents of rosemary and garlic fill the kitchen, and itâs strange, but this simple act of cooking feels like a kind of armor. Itâs something you can control, even if you feel like everything else is slipping from your grasp.
Natasha catches your eye sometimes, her glance lingering in a way that almost feels hesitant, as if sheâs waiting for you to join them. But you stay back, listening to the sounds of their laughter from a distance. Youâve built walls around yourself, fragile as they are, and the thought of letting them down, even for a moment, feels terrifying. You want to be a part of this, to let yourself fall into the warmth of your family again, but something holds you back. So you stay where you are, like an outsider in your own life.Â
The first night the girls are already settled into their beds, sleeping peacefully and Natasha is in the living room, moving quietly, tugging a thin sheet over the lumpy couch cushions and fluffing a pillow that barely holds its shape. Her movements are careful, almost too careful. From the shadowed hallway, you watch her in silence. You know how stiff her back gets, how this couch does her no favors, and how, come morning, the sun will stream straight through the window to warm her face uncomfortably awake. You sigh, a little louder than you mean to, and Natasha glances up but doesnât see you there, just lingering in the shadows, uncertain.
Finally, you take a breath and step into the dim light of the living room, your voice quiet as you say, âThe bed is big enough for both of us, you know. You could sleep there. If you want.â You try to keep your tone casual, as if you havenât thought this over a hundred times, and shrug lightly. âBut you donât have to. Itâs just⊠an option.â
She stands still, her hand pausing over the pillow, eyes glancing to the floor. Of course she wanted to. But she looks at you, hesitant, as if searching for any hint that this offer is anything more than what you said it was. Thereâs a flicker of uncertainty in her gaze, something softened by a yearning sheâs trying too hard to hide from you.
Without waiting for her response, you turn and walk away, not looking back, not wanting to see the indecision flickering across her face.Â
For a moment, the silence stretches and fills the empty room behind you. You hear the softest rustle as she stands there, still unsure, before her footsteps follow yours into the bedroom, cautious and quiet. The bed creaks as she settles on her side, keeping a respectful distance, her breaths slow and steady. She doesnât say a word, but you feel her presence, steady and comforting, like a familiar warmth close enough to touch yet lingering just out of reach.
Natasha lies stiffly on the edge of the bed, her back turned but senses tuned to every breath you take beside her. The proximityâit feels like an exquisite kind of torture, and sheâs aware that itâs probably worse than any discomfort the couch could have offered. But somehow, she welcomes it, aches for it, even as she tells herself to keep her distance, to keep her composure.
She can feel the warmth radiating from you, close enough that the tiniest shift would bring her shoulder against yours, but she keeps herself still, staring into the dark, wide awake. Her mind refuses to settle; memories tumble through her thoughts, fragments of laughter, the easy warmth you used to share. She finds herself painfully aware of the rise and fall of your breathing, the gentle way your face looks when youâre asleep, and she almost canât contain herself.
She knows she wonât sleep tonight. How could she, lying here in the same bed, close enough to touch you, yet worlds apart?
But eventually, as the night wears on, she does.Â
Itâs your breathing that does it, she realizes, grounding her, washing over her like a lullaby. The sound is soft but constant, and she closes her eyes, letting it surround her, allowing herself, just this once, to be comforted by it. Her hand twitches, wanting to reach out, to rest beside yours on the sheets, but she holds backinstead.
And, in time, Natasha drifts off, lulled by the gentle rhythm of you beside her, more at ease than sheâs been in years.
The next night, you help Lily and Nina bake a cake.Â
The kitchen is a mess. Flour dusts the countertops, the floor, even speckles across your cheeks and Lilyâs small hands. Nina stands on her tiptoes on a kitchen stool, eyeing the mixing bowl with such intense concentration that you canât help but smile. Itâs chaotic and loud, with squeals of laughter whenever a dollop of batter splatters onto someoneâs arm. Lily is at the helm, her little hands wielding a wooden spoon as if itâs a magic wand.
âMommy, I want the sprinkles!â she exclaims, reaching for a bright container of them before you even have a chance to measure them out.Â
But you donât stop her; itâs her night, and this mess is hers to make. Every year she insists on making her own birthday cake, decorating it however she pleases, and every year itâs as beautifully haphazard as she is. You watch her, feeling the warmth of her enthusiasm, her innocence.
Natasha watches from the doorway, leaning against the frame, a soft smile on her lips. She takes in the scene quietly, hoping that itâd never go awayâthe joy, the laughter, the way Ninaâs eyes light up as she carefully mixes ingredients, the concentration on Lilyâs face as she decorates her cake, and then, you⊠God, you looked so beautiful. The mother of her children. The person she once called her wife. When you glance over, you catch Natashaâs gaze, and thereâs a tenderness there as she smiles lightly at you, knowing exactly where her place is. So, she doesnât move. She watches.Â
Eventually, the cake is baked, golden and imperfect, with sprinkles scattered unevenly over thick layers of frosting. Itâs more of an abstract work of art than anything, but Lily beams with pride, her little hands sticky with icing as she admires her creation.
When itâs finally time to sing, she stands on a chair, practically glowing as everyone joins in, voices soft and full of love. Everybody sings. The light of the candle flickers across the girlsâ faces as Natashaâs voice blends in with yours, and for a moment, everything feels⊠whole. You catch her eye again, and she looks at you with something unreadableâhope, maybe.
But you look away and her smile falls.
Then, Wanda visits on the last day.
Her visit catches you off guard, appearing just as youâre gathering up the last odds and ends in the cabin. She breezes in with that familiar smile, warmth radiating from her as if sheâd been here all along, making herself at home in the easy way she always does. Itâs been a couple weeks since you last saw her, yet here she is, greeting the girls with the kind of affection that only Wanda has, her laugh bright and contagious as she swoops them up one by one. You canât help but smile as they cling to her, their giggles filling the cabin as they chatter on about every little detail of the weekend, as if they hadnât seen her in ages.
Then, somewhere between the hugs and the laughter, Wandaâs eyes meet yours, a glimmer of something mischievous sparking in them.Â
Before you know it, sheâs suggested ice cream, casually slipping the offer into the air, barely giving you a moment to consider before Nina and Lilyâs eyes light up with excitement, their voices blending into one constant, pleading hum of âPlease, Mommy, please!âÂ
You hesitate, glancing around at the half-packed bags and open suitcases scattered on the floor. Thereâs still so much to do, and the sky outside has that heavy look to it, the kind that promises to come down hard if given the chance. You shoot Wanda a skeptical look, but she just waves it off, her voice light and certain.Â
âOh, Iâll just take them real quick,â she says, already holding out her hands as Nina grabs one, Lily the other.
You glance once more at the ominous clouds hanging low in the sky. They should wait, you think, but youâve already seen the way their faces light up at the mention of ice cream, and you canât bring yourself to say no, not when theyâre this happy.Â
So you sigh, pulling each of them close for a quick hug, whispering your usual cautions, âBe careful, okay? And Wanda, please⊠it looks like itâs about to rain.â
With a final nod, you watch as they pile out the door, their voices fading into the thick silence left in their wake. And suddenly, itâs just you and Natasha, an entire cabin somehow feeling smaller without the girls. She clears her throat softly, moving to help with a stray pile of blankets, and you follow.Â
The silence between you stretches on and you find yourself too aware of every sound she makes, the soft rustling of fabric, the soft padding of her steps across the creaky wooden floor. You donât dare look at her, not directly, focusing instead on the small tasks in front of you: folding the blankets with slow, methodical care, stacking up dishes in silence, packing up the girlsâ scattered toys one by one. But out of the corner of your eye, you can see Natashaâs glances, her fingers moving with a touch too gentle, as if each item in her hands were something precious, something irreplaceable.
When she reaches over, her hand brushing yours as she passes a blanket, you freeze for the briefest second, your heart pounding in a way you wish you could ignore. Itâs strange, this small gestureânothing more than a graze of skin, but it feels heavy.Â
After a moment, Natasha clears her throat, shifting her gaze to the window where the sky darkens further.
âLooks like a stormâs coming,â she murmurs, more to herself than to you, but her voice is close, familiar in a way that aches, that reminds you of nights spent together, whispering in the dark.Â
And you want to say something, to fill the silence with something else, but the words wonât come out.Â
Instead, you both go back to packing in silence, And as you reach for another item, you catch her eyes on you again, lingering a second longer than necessary, something soft and unreadable passing through them before she looks away.
When the last bag is zipped and the blankets are folded neatly on the couch, the sky finally breaks open with a relentless downpour. Raindrops hammer against the cabin roof. You glance out the window, watching as the world outside the cabin turns hazy and blurred, colors melting together in streaks. Itâs coming down harder than you expected, the kind of rain that turns roads to rivers, and any hope of a quick drive to meet Wanda and the girls seems to vanish.
Natasha stands beside you, her gaze following yours out the window. Thereâs something calming in the way she stands there, shoulders relaxed, as if she were rooted to the spot, waiting without a rush. She doesnât offer any suggestion about the rain or attempt to fill the silence, and somehow, that makes it harder to ignore her presence.Â
Thunder rumbles somewhere in the distance, low and resonant, like a warning. You watch as Natasha crosses her arms, her fingers tapping lightly against her sleeve as if in thought, and you can tell sheâs trying to gauge the storm, trying to calculate how long youâll be stuck here together.
Natasha looks over at you, an almost apologetic look flickering across her face. âIâll go check on the car real quick,â she murmurs, her voice low enough to blend with the rain. âI know we probably shouldnât go anywhere right now, but itâs old, and it never does well sitting in rain like this.â
You only nod, saying nothing, watching her pull on a jacket and tug the hood over her head before slipping out the front door. The rain swallows her figure instantly, and you see her trudge through the mud, her boots sinking slightly with every step.Â
Through the window, you can just barely make out the shape of Natasha as she reaches the car, her hand brushing over its rain-streaked surface with a soft touch, like sheâs apologizing to it for what sheâs about to ask of it. The headlights flicker as she tries to turn it over, but the engine groans before settling into silence again. Another turn of the key yields the same result, the rumble followed by a spluttering cough as the car refuses to cooperate, sinking ever deeper into the mud.
You watch as Natasha leans back in the driverâs seat, her shoulders slumping in quiet resignation. She presses her forehead against the steering wheel for a moment, as if gathering herself, then takes a deep breath and steps out. She gives the car a gentle, almost defeated pat on the hood, the look of someone who knows theyâve tried all they can. When she glances back toward the cabin, her gaze lifts to find you through the window.
She walks back, her steps slow, head slightly bowed against the storm. When she reaches the porch, Natasha shakes out her hood, droplets splashing across the wooden boards, and stands for a moment, hesitating as if she doesnât want to be the bearer of more bad news. But thereâs a strange, almost gentle softness in her gaze as she finally meets your eyes.
âItâs stuck,â she says quietly, tugging the hood down. âThe mudâs got it pretty good, and⊠I donât think weâre going anywhere tonight.âÂ
You nod, trying to ignore the small part of you that almost feels relief at her words. You watch the rainwater drip down from her jacket, forming a small puddle at her feet, and the cabinâs warmth surrounds you both, soft and heavy. Natasha only watches you as you pull your phone out to text Wanda. You fumble with your phone, tapping the screen to try and coax a single bar of signal to life. Nothing. The little icon taunts you with its emptiness, a dead end in the storm.Â
âDamn it,â you mutter under your breath, low enough that it almost feels like an afterthought, something you wish would disappear into the sounds of the rain.
Natashaâs voice, gentle and steady, breaks through. âIâm sure the girls are fine with WandaâŠâ
You look at her. Her gaze is fixed on you, softened by a faint worry lingering at the corners of her eyes. Thereâs a sincerity you see in her irises. You look away, down to your phone as though it might somehow find a way to work.
The silence settles in again, heavier this time. Natasha shifts on her feet, uncertain, as if waiting for something from youâa response, an assurance, anything to break the tension she can feel thickening in the air. But instead, you simply pocket your phone, shoulders tense as you press your lips together in thought, a part of you unwilling to trust that everything is okay. You donât respond, your mind too wrapped up in worry, feeling that gnawing pit in your stomach that refuses to ease, the sense that something is just⊠out of reach, outside of your control.
The rain comes down in sheets, a constant drumming against the windows and the roof, filling the air with a steady hum. But inside, the silence between you and Natasha is deafening, thicker than the rain, pressing down on you in a way that makes it hard to breathe. Each passing second feels heavier, and you can feel yourself starting to unravel under the weight of it. Itâs suffocating, somehow.
You glance down, trying to keep your breathing steady, but thereâs something clawing at you from the inside, a mix of panic and⊠something else. The feeling of being here alone with her, the person you loved so much and lost so painfully, is almost too much to bear. You press your lips together, trying to ignore the way your chest tightens, the way your hands start to tremble just a little. Itâs as if everythingâs closing in on you, the walls, the quiet, the memories. You sense Natasha watching you, catching the small signs youâre trying to hide. Her gaze is warm, careful, as if sheâs afraid that one wrong move could make everything fall apart. She shifts, almost reaching out, her hand hesitating in the space between you, as if sheâs weighing whether she has the right to offer any comfort.
A shaky breath escapes you, breaking the silence, and you almost regret it instantly. Itâs like youâve let down a barrier, and Natashaâs expression softens, her eyes filled with something thatâs so familiar it hurts. The ache inside you grows stronger, and you find yourself wanting to say something, anything, but the words stick in your throat. You can feel the weight of all thatâs unsaid between youâthe hurt, the love, the quiet grief of two people who once had everything and lost it.
For a second, you catch her eye, and youâre pulled right back to those moments when it was just the two of you, when you didnât need words to understand each other. You have to look away, not ready to face the full force of it.
You take a shaky step backward, feeling your chest tighten as you distance yourself from Natasha, as though putting even a few inches between you could somehow ease the ache clawing inside you.Â
âI⊠I canât be here,â you murmur, barely recognizing the sound of your own voice, raw and low.
You glance toward the rain-soaked windows, almost desperate for escape, the downpour outside strangely inviting, anything to cut through the weight of this moment. Youâre one step from turning toward the door when you feel Natashaâs fingers close gently around your wrist, her hold soft but unyielding.
âI wonât let you go out in this rain,â she says, her voice steady, a quiet determination threading through her tone. Sheâs close now, closer than sheâs been in so long, and the warmth of her hand against your skin, even through the fabric of your sleeve, sends a shiver down your spine.
You look down at her hand, your eyes tracing the lines of her fingers where they touch you, and for a moment, you feel yourself waver, caught between the urge to pull away and the desire to stay. Itâs almost as if her touch could melt away everything youâre carrying, all the years, the heartbreak, the carefully rebuilt walls. But you donât move, and she doesnât let go.
âPlease,â she whispers, her thumb brushing gently along your wrist. Itâs the barest touch, but itâs enough to keep you grounded, to make you feel like maybe, just maybe, you donât have to face this alone.
Thereâs a beat of silence, and then Natashaâs hand falls away from your wrist, fingers slipping into emptiness as if sheâs retreating into herself. Her gaze drops, the slightest flinch crossing her face, a flash of something broken that she quickly tries to bury.
âI can go make you some tea,â she says, her voice barely above a whisper, gentler than youâve heard in a long time. Itâs a soft offering that she knows has always brought you comfort.
But you turn away, steeling yourself. âI donât need it,â you reply, sharper than you mean to, the words laced with bitterness you canât hide.
Natasha hesitates, her hand hovering in the air like she wants to reach for you, to do something, anything, to take the pain from your eyes. âItâll helpââ she begins softly.
âI donât need anything from you,â you cut her off, voice splintering, more forceful this time, a fierce edge to the words that lands heavy in the space between you.
Natasha stares, caught off guard, and her expression shifts, something fragile crossing her face that she canât quite hide. She opens her mouth, but no words come, her voice lodged somewhere too deep to reach. She doesnât fight back, doesnât press you. Instead, she just watches, taking in every tremor, every piece of you sheâs shattered.
And thatâs when you feel itâeverything inside you begins to unravel, as if a dam has broken. Your voice drops to a whisper, your gaze falling to the floor, and your hands start to shake as you choke out, âI donât⊠I donât need you.âÂ
The words come softer, barely audible, and you realize itâs as much for yourself as it is for her.
But then your voice cracks, your resolve slipping, and the truth of it cuts into you like glass. The tears come, quiet at first, slipping down your cheeks as you try to hold it together, but the pain is too much. You canât stop the sobs that rise, each one sharper than the last, as the weight of it all threatens to swallow you whole.
Natashaâs heart twists painfully as she watches you, each quiet sob striking her deeper than any wound sheâs ever endured. She hates seeing you like this, hates that sheâs the reason for it. Every tear, every tremor, is a reminder of the ways sheâs failed you. Thereâs a pain that fills her, clawing at her chest as she stands there, watching you break in front of her, knowing thereâs nothing she can do to piece you back together.
Her hands itch to reach out, to pull you close, to soothe you the way she used to. But the distance between you feels unbridgeable. She can only stand there, fists clenching at her sides as she tries to steady herself, feeling utterly powerless. Regret presses down on her, heavy and unrelenting, mingling with a love she never stopped feeling and a longing that never seems to fade.
Every part of her wants to close the gap, to say something that might ease the pain sheâs caused, but all she can manage is a quiet, broken whisper.Â
âIâm so sorry,â she murmurs, her voice cracking, barely audible over the sound of your quiet sobs.
Itâs the same apology sheâs given a hundred times, one that feels worn out, hoping it will somehow be enough to mend whatâs been broken. But even as the words leave her lips, she knows they donât carry the weight they used to.
Your hands reach up to push her weakly. It only takes three pushes until Natasha feels the cool wall of the cabin press against her back as your hands meet her chest, each shove more desperate than the last. She doesnât resist, doesnât move to stop you, just lets you push herâlets you release everything thatâs been simmering inside. The look in her eyes is pained but unwavering, as if she knows she deserves every bit of anger, every ounce of resentment, that you hurl at her.
When your voice breaks on those words, âI hate you. I hate you. I hate you,â it feels like something inside her is splintering.Â
Sheâs faced countless enemies, stared down dangers most people couldnât imagine, but nothing has ever gutted her like hearing you say those words. Her chest aches in a way she canât describe; itâs a hollow, consuming pain that only comes from hurting someone you love.
âI hate you,â you say again.
Natasha swallows, her own eyes shining with unshed tears as she reaches out instinctively, hesitantly, as if she might still be able to comfort you, though she knows itâs selfish. Her fingers brush your arms, just barely, but she stops, feeling unworthy to touch you, even if every fiber of her being wants to hold you.
âI know,â she whispers, her voice low, raw. âI know. I hate myself too.â Her words come out fractured, like sheâs fighting to keep them steady.
You press against Natasha with the last bit of strength you have left, hands shoving her even as your body begins to crumble under the weight of all youâve been holding back. Your knees weaken, unsteady as a wave of exhaustion overtakes you, and you feel yourself start to slip. And Natasha, still pressed against the wall, doesnât hesitate. She reaches for you, arms encircling you in one swift, instinctive movement, pulling you close against her as though sheâs been waiting for thisâfor any chance to hold you again.Â
You struggle at first, fists pressing weakly against her chest as you try to push her away, to break free from the comfort that only stings in its familiarity. But Natashaâs grip is firm, and steady, that doesnât falter as you fight against her. She doesnât say a word, doesnât loosen her hold; she just holds you close, pressing you to her, heart hammering beneath your cheek.
Eventually, the exhaustion wins. All of your fight slips away. A ragged sob escapes your lips, and then another, and before you know it, youâre crying fully, the sound muffled against the warmth of Natashaâs neck. She lets her cheek rest against the top of your head, her hand moving to stroke your back in small, soothing circles, each touch tender and careful, as if sheâs afraid of breaking what little is left of you.
âIâm here,â she whispers into your hair, her voice barely a breath, soft and unwavering. âIâm right here.âÂ
She repeats it, holding you even closer, feeling each of your sobs shake through her. For the first time in a long time, Natasha feels you, feels you surrender in her arms, and it breaks her as much as it mends her.
Eventually, your sobs subside, fading into shallow, uneven breaths. You can feel Natashaâs steady heartbeat beneath your palm, and the room settles into a stillness as heavy as the rain outside. Slowly, hesitantly, you lift your head, pulling back just enough to see her face. And in that close space between you, you realize sheâs been crying too. Silent tears slip down her cheeks, glistening under the dim light, eyes raw and vulnerable in a way that youâve almost forgotten.
You take her in, every detail of her face, so familiar yet somehow achingly new. Her lips part, a trembling breath barely filling the space between you, and thereâs something almost fragile in her gaze, like sheâs as uncertain of this as you are.Â
Neither of you speaks.
And before you can second-guess it, before you can pull yourself back, your lips meet hers. The touch is gentle, neither of you moving too quickly, afraid to shatter whatever understanding has settled between you. Natashaâs hand moves slowly, coming up to cradle the side of your face, her thumb grazing your cheek so that nearly undoes you.
The kiss deepens, the two of you leaning into each other, guiding each other towards the couch just behind you. You straddle her, settling yourself on her lap, feeling the heat radiating from her body, and itâs intoxicating. Your hands tangle in her hair, drawing her closer, as your lips press against each other. You feel her tongue in your mouth, moaning against your lips and for the first time in years, she remembers the taste of you. She wanted more. More. More. Moreâ
And Natasha snaps back to reality.Â
âI canât do this,â she gasps, pulling away, her breath uneven, a pained look etched across her face.
You freeze, disbelief washing over you like a cold tide. âWhat?â you whisper, the weight of her words crashing into you.Â
Itâs as if the ground has fallen out beneath your feet. The warmth you felt disappeared, replaced by an uncomfortable chill that seeps into your bones. You feel it all over again. You feel unwanted. And you wanted to get away from her, as fast as you could.Â
But Natashaâs grip tightens around your hips, anchoring you in place. âNo, no, please,â she pleads. âPlease donât go.â
Her voice breaks and stops your movements. Instead of pushing away, you find yourself drawn back into her orbit. Natasha pulls you closer, resting her forehead against your shoulder, and you feel the warmth of her tears soak into the fabric of your shirt. You sit there in silence, letting Natasha cry against you.Â
You remember the warmth of her laughter, the way her eyes would light up when she saw you, how her touch used to feel like home. You sigh, feeling the ache in your chest as Natasha clings to you. It feels strange, foreign even, to see her like this, to feel her emotions pouring out when sheâs usually so guarded, so composed. You gently run your fingers through her red hair, each stroke an attempt to calm her down just as it always did. Itâs rare to see Natasha like this, and the sight of her tears pulls at something deep within you, something that refuses to let go of the memories you once shared.
Her breath is warm against your neck as she whispers, âItâs not that I donât want youâŠâ Her voice trembles, soft and almost hesitant. âI always want you⊠but I want you to be sure. I want you to want me too⊠not now⊠not when weâre still fighting like this.â
The words settle heavily between you. Her confession is raw and earnest, a glimpse into the heart she so rarely lets anyone see. The warmth of her touch and the depth of her gaze make you feel as though youâre standing on the edge of something vast and uncertain. You could so easily fall back into her arms but the walls that the two of you have builtâbrick by painful brickâare still there.
âI know,â you murmur, your voice barely more than a breath, trying to find the right words to bridge the space between you.Â
You want to tell her that youâre here, that part of you has always been here, waiting. But youâre afraid too, afraid of what wanting her again could mean, afraid of the heartbreak that might be waiting if things were to fall apart once more. You pause, resting your cheek against her head, feeling the soft tickle of her hair against your skin.Â
âI know,â you say again, softer this time, as if to convince yourself as much as her.
Natashaâs eyes drift shut, and she lets out a long, unsteady sigh as she pulls you closer, absorbing the feeling of your warmth, the familiar weight of you against her. Itâs been years since sheâs held you like this, years since sheâs felt your skin. Every inch of her aches with the realization of how much sheâs missed thisâmissed you.
She lets her fingers trace gentle circles on your back, each touch cautious, as if sheâs afraid youâll slip away the second she lets go. Memories flood her mind of the times when the two of you were unbreakable, your worlds wrapped around each other. All of it feels so close, so painfully real, like she could reach out and grasp it, yet impossibly far away. Sheâs overwhelmed, but she doesnât want to move, doesnât want to let go.
She listens to the rain, feels you underneath her fingertips, the scent of your skin filling her nose. She dreamed of holding you like this everyday for the past three years. And now that she had it, she wanted it forever.Â
âWhere did we go wrong?â you whispered, almost too quiet for her to hear.Â
The question catches Natasha off-guard, lingers in the air between you, and she can barely bring herself to breathe, almost afraid that any movement might shatter this moment. She holds you a little tighter, as if she could somehow shield you from the pain in your voice.
She feels the weight of all the memories, the years youâve shared, pressing down on her. She nuzzles closer, her face tucked into the curve of your neck, feeling the warmth of your skin against hers, a feeling sheâd almost forgotten. Sheâs surprised you havenât pulled away yet, as if the tenderness still feels too familiar, too natural.
âItâs my fault,â Natasha whispers, barely louder than the rain outside, her voice breaking around the edges. Her heart races, and she doesnât dare to look at you, afraid of the hurt she knows sheâll see in your eyes.
You let out a heavy sigh, your gaze drifting somewhere past her, lost in thought. âYou donât think⊠I gave you a reason to⊠to find someone else?â
Sheâs stunned into silence, the realization settling over her that maybe, somehow, youâve been carrying this blame, wondering if you were part of the reason sheâd broken the life you built together. She blinks, swallowing hard as she tries to find the words, a flicker of panic rising in her chest.
âNo,â she says firmly, her voice steady yet soft, almost pleading. She shifts, pulling back just enough to look at you, her hand gently brushing your cheek. âNo, it was never because of you.â
But youâre still looking at her, and your voice trembles, barely holding back the pain.Â
âDonât lie to me, Natasha.â
âI canât,â she says.
Your eyes harden and you pull back slightly to look at her face, âThe truth. You owe me that.â
She didnât want to say it. Her heart twists, and she hesitates, closing her eyes as she forces herself to say the words sheâs been too afraid to admitâeven to herself.
âI thought⊠I thought you didnât love me anymore.â Her voice wavers, her fingers tightening their hold on you as if afraid that letting go would mean losing you all over again.
The silence between you is thick and heavy, your breaths filling the quiet space as you absorb her words. She feels the guilt clawing at her, as if sheâs baring every part of herself, hoping that you can see the truth buried within her confession. She never wanted to hurt you. She never wanted to push you away. But somewhere along the way, sheâd lost sight of what mattered most, and sheâd convinced herself it was too late, that the love youâd once shared had slipped through her fingers.
The word slips out, barely audible, cracked and raw. âWhy?â
The question hangs in the air. Natasha feels it wrap around her heart. She forces herself to look at you, even though the sight of that single tear tracing its way down your cheek makes her want to look away. She knows this answer; sheâs carried it silently, wordlessly, and now it seems so inevitable that youâd finally ask her.
She tries to swallow, her voice almost too thick to form the words. âYou⊠you stopped touching me.â
Itâs such a small statement, so simple, yet it feels too big, too complicated, as if it holds every untold truth between you.Â
She falters, looking down at her hands, gathering herself before she tries to explain.Â
âI donât mean⊠just sex,â she says softly, her head shaking almost in shame, as if she doesnât trust you to believe her. âIt was all the little things. We used to be close, you know? I liked touching you, even if it was just brushing my hand against yours⊠feeling you next to me in bed. I likedââÂ
She pauses, her voice catching as she tries to summon the tenderness thatâs still tucked away somewhere in the past.Â
âI liked holding you at night. I liked standing close to you when you cook. I liked that you liked holding my hands no matter how rough they were. And I loved how youâd kiss me before I left the house, or the way youâd kiss me again as soon as I came backâŠâ
She trails off, the words fading into the silence. The silence presses down between you. Itâs all so achingly clear at this moment. You sit there, absorbing her words, the hurt spreading through you in waves as she continues.Â
âAnd then⊠somewhere along the line, we just stopped,â she breathes into your neck. âWe barely talked anymore. And when I tried to initiate anything⊠youâd pull away from me.â
Natashaâs voice is quiet, barely more than a whisper. But the way she says it hits you with a kind of clarity that feels like a wound reopening. Sheâs talking about something ordinary, something so small and routine that you can hardly believe it could be the reason for so much hurt. Yet now, hearing her say it, you realize how much those tiny moments meant. The gentle touches, the kisses, the reassurances youâd once given each other like breathing⊠how you pulled away from her⊠it was all fading even before you saw it happening.
She sits there, barely daring to breathe, looking at you with eyes that hold more regret than sheâs ever known how to express. Thereâs a subtle twitch in her fingers, as if she wants to pull you even closer, to bridge that space between you that now feels so painfully wide.
The words spill out hesitantly, each one trembling with the weight of something youâve kept hidden, maybe even from yourself. âI think⊠things changed for us after Nina was born.âÂ
The realization feels sharp, pressing against you. Youâre not blaming Ninaâsheâs so innocent, so undeserving of even a hint of this painâbut itâs like tracing back a long path through a dark wood, seeing the moments where you veered off course, where insecurities took root without you realizing it.
Natashaâs gaze is soft as she looks at you, her thumb grazing over your waist in small, comforting circles, coaxing you to keep talking.Â
âWhy?â she asks gently, like sheâs holding space for you.
You hesitate, feeling the words catch in your throat, but you force yourself to continue. âI donât know⊠I⊠Iâm the one who pulled away first.â
Natashaâs fingers pause on your waist, her focus fully on you, willing you to keep going. Her voice is a low murmur, soft but insistent, âWhy did you pull away?â
The question cracks something open inside you, and you feel your lips start to quiver, your chest tightening with the ache of it all. Youâre on the edge of sobbing again, but you push forward, knowing you canât stop now. âBecause I changed after Nina was born.â
Natashaâs brows knit together as she searches your face. âWhat do you mean?â
You take a shaky breath, looking down for a moment, as if saying it out loud will finally make it real, and will confirm what youâve been so afraid to confront.Â
âMy⊠my body changed.â Your voice is barely a whisper, fragile and almost embarrassed, but itâs there, raw and painfully honest.
A light bulb flickers on in Natashaâs mind as she processes your words.Â
âDid you think I had an issue with your body after Nina was born?â she asks quietly, her voice laced with both offense and confusion. She wants to understand, to dig deeper into your emotions. âDid you think I wouldnât want you if your body changed?â
You shake your head, tears slipping down your cheeks like the rain outside, each drop echoing the chaos inside.Â
âNo, IâŠâ You struggle for the right words, each syllable weighed down with shame. âI donât know. It was so stupid⊠Y-Youâre always in shape, Natasha. Everyone you know and work with⊠theyâre all perfect and strong and beautiful. And youâd come home and Iâd be struggling to lose the weight I gained when I was pregnant. Iâd have baby food in my hair. The times I didnât get to shower early enough because taking care of the girls could get so hectic sometimes⊠and you would come home to that⊠and I thoughtâŠâÂ
Your voice trails off, the weight of your thoughts pressing heavily on your chest. Natashaâs expression shifts as she absorbs your words, her brows furrowing in a way that reveals how deeply your pain affects her. She shakes her head, protesting against the image youâve painted of yourself.Â
âYouâve always been beautiful to me, (Y/n). Always,â she says softly, wiping away your tears with her thumbs, her touch gentle yet firm, as if she could erase the hurt with the warmth of her hands. âI donât look at you and think anything else other than how breathtaking you are. You carried and gave birth to both of our beautiful girls. That alone means everything to me. You didnât have to pull away from me.â
âI⊠I pulled away⊠because I thought you wouldnât want me anymoreâŠâ you confess, each word punctuated by the quiet sobs that escape you, an avalanche of emotions finally breaking free.
âI always want you,â Natasha sighs, a tear slipping down her cheek, mirroring your own pain. She murmurs, her voice thick with regret. âI wish I knew⊠I shouldâve asked. I shouldâveâŠâÂ
Her words tumbled out in a rush. You see the depth of her sorrow, the realization that she could have made a difference if only she had reached out, if only she had known. As you cry silently, Natasha takes your hands in hers, cradling them like fragile treasures.Â
âI shouldâve told you,â you say, watching as she soothed her fingers gently over your hands.Â
âNo,â she interjects, her tone firm but gentle. âI shouldâve known. I shouldâve clued in on what was going on a long time ago.â
Natasha looks at you softly, memories flood her mindâimages of that one night, a night sheâd tried to forget but couldnât escape. The feeling of abandonment gnawed at her as she replayed the moments leading up to her decision to leave. She remembers the heavy weight of despair that had settled in her chest, suffocating and relentless, making it impossible to breathe. She had convinced herself that if she went out, if she got drunk enough, maybe the pain of feeling unwanted would fade away.
But it only deepened.
In her haze, she had followed a woman into bed, desperately trying to imagine the warmth of your body in place of hers, the softness of your laughter, your gentle voice reassuring her that everything was okay, that you loved her. Natasha had thought that perhaps, just for a moment, she could replace the feeling of loneliness with something that resembled closeness. But the alcohol only made her feel more lost, more empty. And when the fog of the night began to lift, reality crashed down on her like a tidal wave.
Then, the devastation that followed was unbearable, the realization that she was lying next to someone who wasnât you was a betrayal of its own. She had stumbled back to her car, tears streaming down her face as she cried against the steering wheel, the home you shared just miles away, reminding her of everything she had thrown away in that one moment of weakness.
âI wish I didnât leave that night. I shouldâve stayed with you,â Natasha murmurs, the regret thick in her voice.
She looks down, fingers fidgeting restlessly against your waist. The memory of that night, the night she let her pain turn her into someone she didnât recognize, stings like an open wound.
In her mind, it replays over and over with cruel clarity: the empty bed she left behind, the bitter taste of jealousy and self-doubt that drove her out the door, and the alcohol she turned to, hoping it would numb the ache. But it only made things worse.Â
She remembers how her vision blurred, and in the hazy, dimly lit room, sheâd let herself believe she was somewhere elseâback home, with you, as if she could trick herself into feeling loved. She imagined your skin. She imagined your lips. She imagined your hands. She imagined your voice. She imagined it all to be you. She wanted it so badly to be you. That the woman she was with became an illusion that sheâd desperately wanted to be real.
But it wasnât. It was a lie she told herself, a lie that shattered the instant she sobered up. And when she told you the truth, when she saw the pain in your eyes, she knew the weight of what sheâd done.
Her voice breaks as she continues, âI thought⊠that if I could just close my eyes and pretend, Iâd feel close to you again.âÂ
She risks a glance up, searching your face for somethingâunderstanding, forgiveness, anything to soften the truth of what sheâs saying.
âAll I could think about was you,â she whispers, her gaze dropping to where your hands rest between you. âEven when I was trying so hard to forget. It was only you. Itâs always only been you.â
Thereâs a silence, a moment where her words settle, and she braces herself, unsure if her honesty will bring you closer or push you further away.
âIâm so sorry, (Y/n),â Natashaâs voice is barely above a whisper as she leans forward, resting her forehead against your shoulder, her hands slipping down to your hips, holding you gently but firmly against her lap. âI hate myself for hurting you as much as I did. And if I could go back and undo everything, I would do it in a heartbeat.â
Thereâs a tremor in her voice, a rawness in her apology that cuts through the walls youâd built, walls that once felt impenetrable, necessary. Now, they softened, melting under her words, her touches.
You sit there, not moving, not quite sure where to go with the ache thatâs lodged itself in your chest. Natashaâs breath is warm against your neck, steady yet trembling with the emotion she can no longer contain. Her arms wrap tighter, as if sheâs afraid youâll slip away if she lets go. She presses her lips to your shoulder, a hesitant kiss, soft and laden with the weight of every unsaid apology, every moment she shouldâve been there instead of elsewhere.
You feel your own heart twisting, caught between confusion and forgiveness, between the impulse to push her away and the urge to hold her closer, to let yourself be vulnerable just one more time. Natashaâs fingers flex against your hips, grounding herself in the reality of you here, with her, despite everything.
âI think⊠we were both lost, Natasha,â you say, your voice barely above a whisper, fingers threading gently through her red hair. Her hair is soft between your fingers, and somehow that simple actâthe feel of herâgrounds you both in the present.
Natasha tilts her head slightly, resting into your touch, as though she was seeking forgiveness in every gentle movement of your hand. Her eyes are closed, and you watch as her face softens, a flicker of relief and remorse still etched deep in her features.
âI was just⊠struggling⊠trying to hold everything together and forgetting⊠forgetting we were supposed to hold each other up.â Your voice cracks, but you push on, feeling Natashaâs grip on your waist tighten. âAnd you were hurting too. I didnât even see it.â
Her eyes open then, green and full of something you canât quite name. âI wish I had been stronger for the both of us⊠for you,â she murmurs, her hand lifting to brush a stray tear from your cheek. Her touch is warm, delicate, as if sheâs afraid to break you any more than she already has.
You shake your head, your hand still buried in her hair. Your thumb strokes softly against her scalp, and her hand comes to cover yours, pressing it gently against her. Natasha opens her eyes to meet yours, and in that gaze, a flicker of hope ignites, mingled with uncertainty.Â
âWhat do you want us to do?â she asks softly and you hesitate, the words catching in your throat.Â
âI donât know how to forgive you yet,â you admit, and the honesty feels fragile. The confession hangs in the air, but itâs not a rejection. Itâs an acknowledgment of the hurt that has settled deep in both of you.
âI donât think Iâll ever forgive myself for it,â Natasha replies, nodding her head in agreement, her voice thick with regret.Â
âBut I⊠maybe we could try. It wonât be easy,â you say, a spark of resolve rising within you. âBut I want us to try. Not just for you and me⊠but for the girls too.âÂ
The thought of Lily and Nina grounds you, their innocent laughter echoing in your mind, reminding you of the love between you and Natasha not only affects the two of you, but the lives of your beautiful little girls as well. And they motivate you to be better, to be stronger in a lot of ways, no matter how scary something could be.Â
Natasha blinks, taken aback by your words. She searches your eyes, searching for some sign of betrayal, some hint that this is just another cruel twist of fate, but all she finds is sincerityâa desperate wish for something more. To move forward. A possibility.
You take a shaky breath. The anger and bitterness that had clouded your heart for so long begin to dissipate, and you realize that the facade you had built to protect yourself was crumbling. You had pretended to hate her kb because it felt easier than confronting the truthâthat all you wanted was her love, her touch, her presence beside you.
âYou said you hate me,â Natasha murmurs, her voice barely above a whisper, as her gaze drifts to your lips.Â
You take a moment to gather your thoughts. âI always told myself that I did. I thought I did.âÂ
A silence stretches between you, thick with unsaid feelings and the echoes of past grievances. Natasha watches you intently, her emerald eyes searching for understanding, desperate to catch every part of your emotions.
âAnd even though I felt like I wanted to,â you continue, your voice trembling as the truth rises to the surface, âI donât think Iâll ever stop loving you, Natasha.âÂ
Her breath catches in her throat. She tilts her head slightly, allowing a small smile to break through the sorrow etched on her features.Â
âYou love me,â she repeats, her voice barely more than a murmur, eyes searching yours.
You take a steadying breath, feeling the weight of her gaze, the way itâs unraveling parts of you that you thought youâd locked away.Â
âDonât act surprised,â you reply, sighing softly, almost chastising her for even doubting it. But thereâs a hint of resignation in your voice, as if loving her has become an undeniable part of you, something youâve both fought against and clung to.
Natashaâs expression shifts, and you see something like both relief and remorse in her eyes. She reaches up, her fingers brushing lightly against your cheek, lingering there as if grounding herself in this moment, in the truth of it.Â
âI didnât know if you still did⊠if you still could.â Her voice is low, raw, carrying the weight of all her insecurities, the missteps and miscommunications that led you both here.
You hold her gaze, letting her see the depth of what you feel, all the love and pain tangled together, and you shake your head slightly.Â
âLoving you was never the problem, Natasha. I just⊠I didnât know if I could keep doing it when I was⊠so angry with you.âÂ
The admission aches as it leaves your lips, but itâs the truth. For all the love you feel, thereâs been just as much pain, and itâs taken its toll on both of you.
Natasha nods, her thumb brushing against your cheek as if sheâs memorizing every detail of it.
âAre you sure you still want to try with me?â she asks quietly. Sheâs looking at you with those green eyes that have seen so much, eyes that hold both love and a flicker of fear, as if sheâs afraid of the answer.
You take a moment, feeling the gravity of her question settle in your chest. You nod slowly, your heart pounding against the silence that envelops you.Â
âI⊠I donât know if Iâm ready for us to be together soonâŠâ The words feel thick on your tongue, but theyâre the truth. You canât rush thisâtoo much has happened for that. âBut, I still want to try.â
Natashaâs expression shifts slightly, the blink of pain that crosses her face making your heart ache in response. She nods, processing your words with the understanding that comes from a deep love.Â
âI just need time,â you add, hoping to offer her some reassurance amidst the uncertainty. âMaybe, we can take it slow?â
A small smile breaks through the tension, and in that moment, it feels like the world around you lights up just a bit. Itâs not much, but itâs everything Natasha needs right now.Â
âHowever slow you want to go,â she replies, her voice softer and her hands gentle against your waist. âWhenever youâre ready. Iâll wait however long you need me to.â
The sincerity in her voice wraps around you like a warm blanket, easing some of the tightness in your chest. You can see the depth of her commitment in her eyes, a willingness to do whatever it takes to bridge the distance that formed between the two of you.
You lean into her slightly and whisper, âThank you.â
Natasha looks at you, her gaze filled with a depth of emotion that makes your heart flutter. Itâs as if sheâs seeing you for the first time, not just as the woman she loves but as the most beautiful woman she has ever laid eyes on. The way her eyes soften, the way her lips curl into a smileâitâs overwhelming. Thereâs a longing there, an undeniable desire that urges her to close the distance, to lean in and kiss you. She wanted to kiss you so badly.Â
But she holds herself back, restraint crossing her features as she fights against it. Instead, she smiles gently, looking up at you. Itâs a smile that says sheâll wait for you, no matter how long it takes. The warmth of her touch spreads. You feel a surge of gratitude. Her fingers press softly into your sides, holding you there without demanding anything more than what youâre ready to give.
Her gaze softens as she watches you, studying your face like itâs something sheâs memorizing all over again, tracing every detail with her eyes. A small, almost hesitant smile plays at her lips, just the faintest upward curve, afraid to let the moment slip away.Â
It was quiet. Too quiet.
You watch as Natasha turns her head towards the window, her eyes shifting away from you.Â
âWhere did the rain go?â she murmurs, almost to herself, her voice low.
You follow her gaze to the window, watching as raindrops cling to the glass in silent, scattered trails.
âThe sunâs out,â you murmur, shifting off Natashaâs lap. Her hands linger for a second longer than they should, fingers brushing against you as you slip away and rise to your feet.
Natasha watches you cross the room, her gaze following each step, each small movement. You move towards the window, your hand brushing against the glass as you peer outside. The world looks untouched, as if the storm never even happened, with the sun spilling over the trees and grass, drying the last remnants of raindrops clinging to the leaves. In the distance, you catch sight of Wandaâs car pulling into the drive, her headlights cutting through the last threads of mist hanging low over the ground.
âItâs like it didnât even rain,â you say softly, almost to yourself, the words carrying an odd, quiet wonder.
Natasha moves closely behind you. Sheâs close enough that you feel her there but she doesnât reach out.Â
The car door clicks open, and you watch as your daughters jump out, their laughter filling the morning air as they spot you and Natasha in the window. They wave eagerly, little hands in the air, faces bright with excitement. You walk over to the front door and push the screen door open, stepping out onto the porch and watching Wanda step out of the car with a knowing look. Her expression is unreadable, that sly, familiar grin playing at her lips as she lingers by the driverâs side, watching the scene with a certain satisfaction.Â
Natashaâs smile widens as she looks at the girls, softening into something that feels almost like relief, her eyes lighting up as Nina comes running, arms wide, straight toward her.
âHowâd you guys survive the rain?â you call out, a trace of teasing in your voice as the girls run up to you and Natasha, their laughter still bubbling over.
Nina giggles, wrapping herself around Natashaâs leg, as though sheâs missed her all these hours.
âIt didnât rain, Mommy!â she laughs, her head tilting back, eyes sparkling with innocence.
The words take a moment to sink in. It didnât rain. You exchange a look with Natasha, and suddenly it all starts to fall into place. Wandaâs magic. The quiet, unexpected downpour. The way the time seemed to disappear for hours, leaving you and Natasha stranded in the cabin with nothing but your hurt and your words to fill the silence. You feel the realization settle in, glancing between Natasha and Wanda.Â
You step closer, crossing your arms with a faint smirk and meeting Wandaâs eyes directly.Â
âReally?â you say, raising an eyebrow.Â
Wanda only shrugs, her mouth quirking in that mischievous, all-too-familiar smile. âSeemed like you two could use a little time to talk.â
She says it lightly, like a friend with good intentions, and yet thereâs something so deliberate in her tone that you know she planned this from the start.
You let out a quiet sigh, shaking your head as you turn away, slipping back through the doorway to collect the bags still waiting by the cabinâs door. You can feel Natashaâs gaze on you as you move inside, her eyes following you like sheâs afraid youâll disappear if she looks away. But thereâs a softness in her eyes now, a sort of peace that hadnât been there before, like the air between you both is just a little lighter after the night you shared.
Behind you, Natasha stands on the porch, her hands resting loosely by her sides. She watches as the girls eagerly chatter, running toward her before she crouches down with a smile.Â
âHey, girls,â she says gently, smoothing back a stray curl from Lilyâs forehead. âWhy donât you go help Mommy with your things?â
Nina and Lily grin, nodding excitedly before they dart inside, their footsteps echoing across the cabin floor as they rush to your side, each one eagerly grabbing a piece of luggage and heading toward the car.Â
Wanda steps up to Natashaâs side, her heels crunching softly on the gravel as she gives a knowing smile. She glances at Natasha, eyes curious, then leans in close enough that her voice falls to a gentle whisper. âSo⊠how did it go?â
Natasha takes a slow, steady breath, her eyes lingering on the doorway where you disappeared moments ago.Â
âWe talkedâŠâ she says softly, the words holding a weight Wanda understands without needing more.
âThatâs something,â she murmurs, glancing back toward the cabin as though she can see the space between you both healing, bit by bit.Â
Natasha looks down, a small, hopeful smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Her voice is soft, barely more than a whisper, but the weight of those words lingers in the air between them.Â
âShe said she wants to try,â she murmurs, closing her eyes as a heavy, relieved sigh slips past her lips. Her shoulders relax, and for the first time in what feels like forever, thereâs a spark of hope flickering inside herâa chance to start over, a chance to make things right.
Wanda watches her closely, her expression warm and understanding as she nods. She knows the journey wonât be easy, that there are pieces to pick up and trust to rebuild, but seeing Natasha standing here, her face softened with hope, Wanda knows itâs a start.
Natasha opens her eyes slowly, her gaze distant as if sheâs looking past the porch, past the quiet woods stretching around them. Her mind is with you, picturing the way you held let her hold you, the way youâd let her in, even if only a little. It had been so long since she felt that closeness, and the thought alone fills her with a warmth she hadnât dared let herself feel.
âShe wants to tryâŠâ Natasha repeats softly, as though saying it aloud might make it more real, solid, something she can hold onto. A soft smile pulls at the corners of her mouth, and she looks over at Wanda, her green eyes shining.
Wanda gives her shoulder a gentle squeeze.Â
âItâs a start,â she says gently, her voice steady but tinged with that familiar note of caution. She meets her gaze, her eyes filled with both support and a warning Natasha knows is true. âYou know it wonât be easy.â
Natasha nods, her lips pressing together in a thin line. She knows. Every cell in her body knows. Her mistakes, the distance she let grow between you, the ache that took root in the spaces where love and trust used to beâbut knowing it wonât be easy hasnât made her want it any less.
She stares out toward the driveway, where youâre helping the girls settle in, the sunlight glinting in your hair as you laugh at something Nina says. Itâs a sound sheâs missed so deeply, it aches, and yet here it is, real and alive, a reminder of whatâs still here, whatâs still possible.
âI know,â Natasha murmurs, her gaze locked on you, as if watching you can give her strength. âI know itâll take time, and⊠thereâs a lot to make up for. But, I want it more than anything.â
âThatâs all that matters, Natasha,â Wanda says. âBut if you break her heart again, I donât think Iâll be willing to help with that next time around.â
She smiles and nods in response, the determination in her eyes stronger now. She glances back toward the car just as you emerge, the girls trotting behind you, chattering happily as they throw their bags in, their laughter floating across the grass.
Natashaâs heart swells as she watches you, watches her family together, a sense of purpose settling over her as she realizes just how much she wants to make this right. She knows it wonât be easy, knows that there will be days filled with doubt and pain, but for now, for this moment, she has a sliver of hope.Â
And for Natasha, thatâs more than enough.
note: would you forgive her ?

Alien Stage Round 6 Character Analysis and Lyrics Breakdown
Okay so obviously spoilers, don't click Keep Reading if you haven't watched Round 6.
God fuck it's so fucking beautiful, where do I start?
I don't even know what is going on with those rapid shots of what I assume is some form of experiment that Till was involved in. I have no clue what the goal was or if it succeeded but somehow (for no real reason other than that one image of Luka standing behind Till ominously) I feel that Luka is involved with it.
Was this an attempt by Heperu's (Luka's guardian) rival to make a human capable of going up against Luka? Till being the youngest and Luka being the oldest also means that Till's guardian could have caught on to what Heperu was planning to do with Luka and then start experimenting on humans shortly after and it would still somewhat line up with the timeline.
But I'm getting into conspiracy territory, back to suffering!!
Allow me, to the tips of your fingers
Allow me, to the ends of your feet
Dissolve me in your gaze
I don't want to let you go
Oh this hurts. Seeing him look so defeated and exhausted, you can tell that even though to the public it's not certain whether Mizi died or not it doesn't matter to him. Because she's still gone away from his world, where he is unable to reach her. He wants to dissolve and die but he also doesn't want to let her go if there is even a sliver of hope that she lives.
Please, leave me scars
Please, hurt me so that
Not a single drop of me remains
Let me drown in you
The footage that plays to these lyrics really show how defeated he is. He refuses to sing, his passion for the art completely dead and buried. And (his guardian I assume) when someone shoves the fact that Mizi is gone in his face he lashes out and punches one of the aliens near him.
Until these falling stars
Are buried in the blur of time
However his heart isn't entirely in it and is quickly apprehended.
He is beyond exhausted and doesn't even protest or put up a fight while (the same alien he punched btw) another alien runs their fingers through his hair.
On your icy lips
Read my soul
Yes, my soul
He hopes that even if Mizi is dead that her spirit watches over him, seeing his soul and by extension, Him, for all that he is. Every thought and breath until he falls asleep is for Mizi.
But didn't we already know this is how he'd be like? Time for something juicier~
Even if your cold words
Carve scars beneath my eyes
May they linger on your tongue
You can break me apart
God this is heart shattering. Even if Till doesn't care for him, even if Till throws hurtful words his way, Ivan will still lie awake at night, cherishing what sliver of attention he is given. It doesn't matter if Till hates him, because as long as he is on Till's mind Ivan is happy. He is entirely in Till's hands, capable of being build up or torn down depending on how much (or how little) he is perceived by him.
Notice my pain
And mend me right now
To quiet my fears
I'll drown in you
He wants so deeply to be seen by Till, noticed. Till who doesn't let anything hold him down and always picks himself back up became a pillar of hope and strength to Ivan. It didn't matter how or in what context he gets to be seen, so he went out of his way to provoke him just to get Till to look at him even for a moment.
This was mentioned a while back on VIVINOS Patreon but the entire incident where Mizi and Till got attacked by that hound monster was orchestrated by him. I feel like there is two possible reasons for this depending on when in the timeline this takes place.
Either he wanted to test Till's resolve in hopes of being proven wrong about his courage (after all your hopes can't be dashed on the rocks, if you never had hopes to begin with) only for his obsession to end up growing even stronger than before.
Or he tried to let Till get roughed up enough that he'd be transferred (solitary confinement? emergency room?) somewhere else away from the others at Anakt, so they could escape together.
But we all know how that turned out.
Either way what Ivan wants isn't freedom, he's long since given up on that. There's no point in his freedom if the person that inspired him to yearn for it isn't by his side. He needs Till there, his very presence to reassure him that no matter what Till won't falter. But he failed to take account of the one thing that weakens Till's resolve.
Mizi.
Mizi is to Till what Till is to Ivan. And so without Mizi in his world Till crumbles. Since Till will only go where Mizi is and Mizi already gave away her heart to someone else, it's impossible for Ivan to be free while keeping Till in his world.
And so he follows him, resigning himself to a life without freedom.
Sick of these nights to come
To be engulfed in silence
But the distance between them is killing him, and each and every day they come closer to their inevitable doom.
It doesn't matter if they believe the lie the aliens told them, that if they die singing they will be blessed. Because what is the point in that? How can going somewhere far away from the people they love be a blessing?
In your gaze where I am seen
Consume me
Yes, me
His desires mirror Till's. He wants his soul to be seen by him, recognized for his undying love for him. He wants Till to see that he can give him all that Till yearns for in Mizi and more.
To this everlasting melody
Face to face we dance
And yet Till still refuses to look Ivan in the eyes.
Things get a little unclear but since they aren't shown singing here and there's no flashback to accompany the lyrics, we can assume that at this moment Till most likely gave up on singing.
With our story
Lost in forever's embrace
I'm not sure if Ivan intended this from the start or if it's a decision he made then and there but one thing is certain. If Till stops singing then that would mean he forfeits, he'll lose. Till has never once given up. Even when he went back for Mizi that night, he never intended to leave her in the first place. But now without her he crumbles.
And Ivan can't let that happen, not like this.
Moral grey area aside, this scene is so deeply moving to me
And I don't say that in a romantic context, absolutely not. This is something much deeper than just love. This is the culmination of everything they've been through, all those moments lead up to this.
Because this isn't a kiss.
This is Ivan throwing his life away for Till.
Till was going to loose, the only thing that could overturn that is if his opponent attacks him. The kiss was to distract Till and keep him from catching up to what Ivan was planning.
Just look at the contrast between their first and second kiss. As soon as the score board shows Till is in the lead, he gives him a gentle peck on the lips. The contrast is stark and full of meaning. This was the genuine kiss, hidden behind a smokescreen of aggressive bravado created from the previous one.
And it worked. Till was completely convinced that Ivan's intentions was to kill him, and he was fully intent on letting him.
I know a lot of people doubted his intentions. Because he didn't let go of Till's neck the minute he saw their scores, a lot of people assume that this was Ivan trying to drag Till down with him.
But the minute he coughed up blood what does he do?
He smiles.
and let's Till go.
He's only human. He might know logically that Till has won the match. But emotionally he refuses to let go until he is certain.
Until he knows for a fact that he is the one bleeding and dying he'll keep up his charade.
And then.
And only then.
Till truly sees Ivan.
As he dissolves in his gaze.

2 batteries away
đđđŹđđ«.: if he can choose to spend time with someone else rather than you, daryl would do it. not because he hates you. he simply doesn't have any type of connection with you. and you are so young. but when rick demands that you join him on a scavenge hunt, he doesn't have much of a saying into it, and chooses to act unbothered. he also chooses to ignore the way you tease him the whole trip, your hips swaying just a bit more when walking than usual. đ©đđąđ«đąđ§đ : daryl dixon x female reader đŹđđđđąđ§đ : alexandria, pre-negan đ°đšđ«đđđšđźđ§đ: 5k đđđ đŹ: big age gap, reader is half daryl's age đŹđ©đđđąđđ„ đđđ đŹ: voyeurism, masturbation, breath-play, subtle ddlg, toys, subtle dacryphilia

Also I miss Rick very much đ„ș
*
"i have a special request. if i'm allowed to do that." a playful voice calls behind you.
you turn around, squinting. the sun is high up in the sky, and right in your eyes. you make out carol's short hair, and nod at her as a sign to keep speaking.
"i'm gonna need something i can make cookies or cakes with. hazelnut, chocolate, almonds,... you know. cake stuff." the woman smiles.
"i'm going out for ibuprofen and possibly viagra, not chocolate."
"viagra? for who?"
you chuckle under the cap rosita has given you, and try to subtly glance over at the man loading the car with weapons. he grunts, glaring at you and instantly shutting down the bullying party you wanted to start.
"i don't need no damn viagra." he slams the trunk door shut, and walks past you, intentionally pushing his shoulder into yours.
you fall a step back, holding in a laugh. carol has her hands on her hips, but her laugh isn't hidden. she knows daryl can't say anything to her.
"oh, come on. i know that you like to stay quiet and mysterious, but a little joking in hard times never hurt anybody." the woman defends you, scrunching her eyebrows at daryl.
"it's hurting me." he yells from the car, slamming the door shut.
"how am i supposed to survive this trip with him, ricky?" you complain, shoulders hanging with rising irritation with the situation.
"you survived a walker flooded prison with nothing but an axe before you found us on the other side, and you're telling me you can't survive a grumpy old man for a few hours?"
"thing is, i killed walkers. i cannot kill him. boo-hoo, the precious tracker. i also, when i see a footprint on the floor facing a certain way, know that someone is headed there. wild, right?"
rick pats your head, messing up the cap in the process just to tease you.
"bring me some shirts on the way back, i'm getting sick of these flannels. and get yourself something nice."
one would think that he gave you his credit card to buy him those shirts at the nearby mall. telling you to get yourself something nice, that idiot. the less fun truth is that you are headed towards a landfill two hours away from alexandria, in hopes of finding anything. glenn and morgan haven't had any luck for a few days now, so rick decided to change the route and the team. daryl and you, apparently, make a great one. that pain in the ass of a man.
"i'm leavin'. you stay and talk 'bout me all you wan'. i'm the one actually doin' something for this place."
"stuck up much? see," you open the car door, sitting inside annoyed, "with the viagra, you'd be a much more pleasant person to be around."
"enough with the damn viagra. fuck's the matter with you?"
"god, just start driving and drop me off somewhere in the middle of the road and i'll find my own shit from a different place. rick doesn't need to know."
"no," he simply responds, not sparing you a glance.
rick waves at you with a smile on his face, knowing damn well what he did putting the two of you together for such a long quest. he's so going to hear from you tonight. if you make it out alive while trying to kill daryl.
"so, what are you hoping to find? booze, peanut butter, new clothes? i'm starting to think you stapled those clothes to your body."
he says nothing, eyes focused on the road. you sigh. maybe you're the problem. you're poking him too much, knowing he has zero patience and doesn't very much like your company. you decide to keep quiet for the rest of the drive, only occasionally glancing over at him out of boredom.
you can't lie, he is an attractive man. you don't know why you're mean to him. he is gorgeous to you, your taste in older rugged men not failing you. you're surprised rick isn't the one you fell for. but next to daryl, he looks too... neat. daryl is just perfect. most of the time his deep raspy voice has you subconsciously rubbing and squeezing your thighs, led by a tingling sensation in your lower stomach. his clothes have recently gotten very tight on him, the buttons of his black shirt threatening to pop and give you a view of your lifetime. he has been working out a lot, you've seen him. fuck, not only have you seen him, you also stayed there, secretly snapping pictures with your polaroid your father had left you before disaster struck. you only had a few films left, yet no self control. something about seeing daryl all sweaty as he did push ups, grunting and almost moaning, thinking that nobody can see him, did things to you.
"wha'?" he asks, sensing your intense gaze.
you turn your head away, flushed. "nothin'."
"mmh."
he keeps it short and stern, and if your panties weren't drenched as your brain replayed the memory of his glistening arm muscles, you'd probably make a sassy remark. he raises an eyebrow, probably also wondering why you aren't being mean for so long now.
"shoes." he says after some time.
"what?" you ask, absent-mindedly staring into the tall trees and the walkers hidden among them.
"i'm hoping to find some shoes. it's gettin' hard to walk in these. i also hope i find sum more arrows."
you nod, surprised that he has actually graced you with an answer. you thought he'd say something like cigarettes or alcohol. you hated people who smoke. but daryl is an exception. he looks damn hot doing it.
"you?" he asks.
"well, new underwear would be nice. i ripped all my good panties, and let me tell you, these thongs are not apocalypse friendly."
"shit, girl, oversharing much?"
"what, you disgusted by female underwear?" you poke back, playfully.
"not female underwear. your underwear."
you're offended. you squint at him, and have to fight the urge to smack the back of his head.
"for your information, you don't look or smell all flowery and fresh yourself. i could use your hair to grease up carol's tray for her cakes. and your fingernails? they have their own ecosystem at this point."
and back to the bickering it is. he grunts again, furrowing his eyebrows. he secretly glances at his fingernails. indeed, they had a layer of dirt under them, but daryl thinks that he has bigger issues than some dirt that will get washed off anyway.
"oh, i also wish to find-"
"yeah, lost interest." the man interrupts. "also, for future conversations, you do not mention your... thongs... to people that are ol' enough to be your father."
ew.
ew.
ew.
he did not.
"what, is that how you see me? you could be my father?"
how utterly disappointing. there you were, sitting next to him, imagining him going feral between your legs, all while he is viewing you as his child. there goes your masturbating material for tonight.
"well the age fits the description."
"fuck you. seriously." you sigh, turning your body towards the window so you can fully ignore him.
arriving at the gates, you immediately notice a few things that you will be taking home. how foolish of you to not take a truck instead of the crusty old car.
"watch it." just as he says it, an arrow passes by your head, followed with a loud thud.
you don't have to look back to know that a walker had managed to sneak behind you, while you were foolish enough to stay swooning over his arms glistening in the sun with sweat.
"damn it, girl, i don' know what it is with you, but you gotta snap outta it. i can't keep saving ya ass."
"yes, dad." you reply, annoyed.
"hey." he calls, hand reaching to cup your jaw and turn your head towards him. "shut it before i make ya."
if it weren't for the feeling of his rough hand on your face and his raspy voice sending you a warning turning you on, you would've slapped him and told him not to touch you. but oh, you were going crazy inside. you found a new way to push his buttons, and you're going to have so much fun with it.
you walk behind him into the landfill, the smell of junk pinching your nose. daryl is also bothered by it, seeing his scrunched expression as he scanned the first piles of garbage.
"there." he points his crossbow a certain way.
you follow the invisible line, your eyes landing on what seemed to be several taped boxes. they could have three things inside: food, weapons, or traps. weird how nobody has discovered this place yet. or maybe they have, and they took all valuables already.
daryl doesn't wait for you. he makes his way towards the boxes, keeping his crossbow ready if something goes wrong. you, on the other hand, have tucked your knife safely and are walking around like there isn't walkers scratching at the fence, waiting to sink their teeth into your skull.
"dammit."
you hear rattling. you turn around, only to find the man kicking the boxes angrily. the can he has just thrown on the floor rolls up to your feet, and you crouch down to examine it. it is food, but expired. eating it would be like playing russian roulette.
"i mean, we can still... ya'know, take it with us. what happens happens."
"dixon, if i'm gonna die, i'm gonna die from a bullet or a bite. not from a rotten macaroni."
he raises an eyebrow at you, amused with your laid back attitude. he doesn't give you much attention, just silently walks next to you while scanning his side of the landfill.
"ah, sweet!" you cheer, running towards a pile.
"wha'?"
you almost trip over the broken wooden chairs, trying to get to a certain little box in the pile.
"the hell are ya doin'? we're losin' time!"
your eyes instinctively roll at his voice. you know he has nothing smart to say. finally reaching the box, you jump back on the floor, eagerly opening it. seeing that the item still has the foil sealed on it, you victoriously raise it in the air, cheering.
"you have made it a goal for yourself to die today, didn't ya?"
"nah, not anymore. i found something that will keep me occupied and will fuel my will to live a little longer."
you continue your way forward, leaving daryl to stare at the box you have discarded, trying to figure out what it is. but he has decided he has no time for your immaturity. he needs to ask rick to not ever put him with you on a hunt again. he's lost a lot of time already, and hasn't found a single thing to bring back.
"clothes." you point, the pile of fabric sitting on top of a garbage hill.
"you gonna go get 'em?"
"why would i go? you go."
"you wanted your... thongs... so, you go get that."
you scoff, setting the newly acquired item on the ground and slowly climbing up the hill.
"what is this, anyway?" his curiosity wins.
you sit on top of the pile, examining the clothes and discarding the ones with holes in them.your eyes dart to the man below you, and you chuckle when you see him crouch and take the item in his hand.
"it's a wand."
"wand?"
"yes."
"for?" he keeps pressing, his eyes never leaving the pink gadget.
"masturbating."
thud.
you look down, mortified. he better not break it.
"careful with that, what's the matter with you?!"
"you're fuckin' crazy, girl."
you silently mock him, sticking your tongue out at him and repeating his words with exaggerated face expressions. he really gets on your nerves. you gather the clothes you have found into a bed sheet, tying it up and putting it over your shoulder, then pick up the gadget from the floor. it seems alive, it didn't break. you only hope it works. you're young, inexperienced, surrounded by people that are either too young or too old for you. though, the old part never was a problem for you, it was for them.
feeling bored, you decide to keep poking him. he is just so grumpy, and silent. and inviting to irritate.
"so, dixon, you've never heard about one of these?" you wave the gadget in front of his face.
he spares you a glare, and continues walking.
"come on, we're talking. nobody's around. tell me, since all of this started, how many times have you even approached a girl? do you even mastu-"
"'m not in the mood to be picked on right now."
"i'm not picking on you. i promise. just trying to converse."
"you want to be useful? hold this. it's in my way." he throws his vest at you, now only wearing a tight black t-shirt.
you scowl at him, shoving his vest into your backpack.
"you're so fun to be around. i get why rick put us together."
he grunts, leaving you behind. rolling your eyes, you go down a different path, hoping to find something useful to all of alexandria and not just you. turning a few lefts, you find yourself standing in front of a little shed like structure. you bang on the door with your foot, and when hearing no growls, you bravely enter. it is dusty and dark, with a singular armchair and a few cupboards.
you open each one of them, happily shoving all the food you managed to find into your backpack, opening a protein bar along the way and chewing on the oats and dried fruits. you missed having those with yogurt for breakfast.
not only will carol be happy with the amount of nuts and flour you have found, rick will be proud of you. you might even ask for a reward when he sees the amount of canned tuna and jam you have found. you forgot what pancakes taste like.
after clearing the room, you peek out the window. daryl is in the distance, going through piles and kicking stuff out of his way, as if playing. you've collected way more than him, and the sun is at it's highest point. the shaded room seems like a perfect place to take a nap, or just rest your feet and ears from him.
you plop on the armchair like a star washed up on the shore. it feels so lonely lately. rick has michonne, carl has enid, rosita has her boytoys, even gabriel might be having more fun than you. as wrong as it was, you stay up listening to the noises coming across the street. they're loud, there's no way you could ignore them even if you wanted to. even rick had to step in and ask them to be quieter. but what is a problem to someone else is a solution for you. is it wrong to touch yourself while listening to someone else fucking? yes. but is it the only way that works for you? also yes.
you eye up the toy that peeks from the backpack, then glance out the window. daryl is busy with his crossbow, having found something that he could use on it.
fuck it.
you unbuckle your pants, not bothering to take off the panties. your fingers are quick to pop the batteries that come with the package in the gadget, and when the lid clicks, you admire it for a second. there it is, in all its glory. waiting to be abused every day by you, until you find a replacement. hopefully a softer and live one.
taking off the thin protective foil from the head, you position yourself on the armchair. you glance at the window again, carefully monitoring daryl. now, if you thought that eavesdropping and touching yourself was bad, what was this? watching daryl's fingers work on his crossbow, arms glistening in the sun, all while the pink toy softly vibrates on your pulsating clit.
you sigh at the newfound pleasure, rubbing the toy up and down your slit, while your eyes stay focused on the man unaware of your situation. he probably even forgot about you. or is thankful that you have left him alone. even better for you. you get to be a pervert without him ever knowing.
you arch your back, throwing your head on the backrest as you focus on chasing the release. it's been awhile, it won't take you long. your eyes open again, just enough to see if the man is still in his spot. your fingers change the vibration strength on the gadget, and instantly, you gasp. it is so intense, and so much, but you don't want it to stop. this thing is your new best friend, you better get used to it.
something else peeks out of the backpack, the leather catching your attention and giving you an idea. like an animal in heat, you grab the vest, burying your nose into it and spreading your legs further. daryl's scent takes over your senses, making you lose control and become a moaning mess. you are getting wetter by the second, the toy now slipping up and down your slit with ease and giving you maximum pleasure.
"fuck- daryl-" you can't help but gasp, enveloped in his manly scent and fabric.
your hips hopelessly rub against the toy, chasing and chasing after something that isn't quite getting closer, even though it feels like it.
"the hell?"
your eyes widen at the interruption. you drop the vest in your lap, hiding the crime scene from him. the man stands at the door, expression unreadable. yours is one of horrified mixed with desire, the way he stares down at you angrily sending arrows to your core.
"daryl- i- did you, uh, find anything?" you try to play it off, foolishly.
"yeah. i found an animal in heat it seems. couldn't wait for alexandria to do that shit?"
"I-"
"is that my vest?"
he slams the door shut, leaving you two in darkness. you gulp, moving the gadget from your core and letting your panties fall back in place.
"i'm sorry, i'm sorry-" you stutter, failing to put a sentence together while he intensely glares at you.
"ya ain't sorry." he grunts. "ya know why i despise being around your ass? you're inappropriate."
"no, look," you try, but he points a finger at your face, making you close your mouth.
your eyes burn, tears announcing their arrival.
"it's not like that-"
"shut up, dammit! i'm talkin' now! do you have any idea in how many uncomfortable situations you've put me? all those snarky dirty comments, all that flirting, now this? do you understand what that does to me?!"
he's yelling, frustrated and angry with you. but why are you getting wetter? why can't you think rationally? he is scolding you for being inappropriate, and you continue to be even more inappropriate by sexualising simple yelling. not your fault he looks damn hot while he does it, though.
"you're- you're half my age. i can't allow myself to play your games, no matter how tempting."
what?
"what will alexandria think? they already have no good opinion on me. engaging with someone half my age the way you want me to engage is- it is a horrible idea. i'll be out faster than i was in."
silence swallows the room. you still lay on the armchair, half naked with his vest covering you. he paces around the room, fingers running through his hair as he tries to gather his thoughts. you think whether it's time to finally say something, but you wait another moment. you need to gather your thoughts too.
tempting, he said. so he thought about it too. he saw past your jokes, and has been controlling himself so well. if only you knew what it would take to shatter that control, even for just a moment.
"since when do you care what other people think?" you start.
"since rick chose to trust me."
you hum, understanding.
"listen-"
"so you've been thinking about it." you're the one to interrupt now.
his head snaps up, looking at you with his eyebrow raised, as if asking you where you're going with that statement.
"there's nothing wrong with it. it's not like we're getting married or something."
"i'm older than you. way older than you."
"so?"
"i could be your father."
"if you say that word to me one more time i swear i will turn this landfill upside down to find another sex toy to shove up your asshole."
"why do you get so triggered by it?"
you roll your eyes, looking anywhere but at him. you press your thighs together, missing the warmth and buzzing from earlier. fun killer.
"because."
"why?"
"doesn't matter."
"tell me," he presses further.
you finally look at him, frustrated. "because i have fucking daddy issues and the thought of you being so much older than me turns me on. there."
you get up from the armchair, putting his vest on so that you can cover yourself. it almost reaches your knees, hiding your body from his gaze. he says nothing, and does nothing for a few moments. you have your back turned to him, hands resting on the counter of the half chipped kitchen cabinet. your head hangs low with embarrassment from the confession that just left your mouth.
tears stream down your cheeks, luckily hidden by your hair. but daryl doesn't miss the little sniff that comes your way. he sighs, then paces around the place a little more. when you don't hear him anymore, and finally face the fact that nothing will be the same with him anymore, you dare turn around. you almost gasp when you come face to face with him, his chest pressing against yours.
"wha- what are you-"
"shh..." he hushes you, eyes roaming your face.
you aren't sure what to do, or what he wants to do. if he tries to comfort you by giving you a hug, you will break down. and you will never face him again. you thought it was only sexual, but the way he looks at you and hushes you as you cry is awakening new emotions inside of you. ones that you will push down for now, because it is not the time.
"daryl, i'm sorry." you hiccup, genuinely feeling sorry for ruining whatever you had with him.
you feel his hands on the back of your thighs, and before you can react, he picks you up and places you on the counter. you instinctively spread your legs, letting him in closer.
"don't be. or else i might regret this."
you look at him doe eyed as he places his hand on your neck, gently holding you just beneath your jaw and softly pressing into the sides of it. he brings his head close to you, eyes half closed as he stares at your lips.
"daryl." you whisper, not sure of this anymore.
"just hush."
and with that, he presses his lips into yours, softly moving them with rhythm only known to the two of you. his other hand caresses your thigh, then creeps to your bottom and pulls you to the edge of the counter, enough to have your crotch press against his.
you can taste your tears while you kiss him, and he probably can too. he doesn't say anything, hell, you even feel him twitch between your legs. you grind on him, unable to control yourself. it is different than the wand. it's warm, and it responds back. it's better.
"hey," you call, slowly pulling away. "i don't want you to do this because you feel sorry for me or something like that. are you doing it because of that?"
"nah."
before you can continue bombarding him with questions and overthinking, he places his lips back on yours, this time a little rougher than before. you open your mouth, tongue eager to taste him properly. and fuck, he tastes good. you hated cigarettes and alcohol, but from his mouth, you adore it. you finally give in, arms wrapping around his neck and pulling him impossibly close. finally.
it doesn't take long for him to have you whining and grinding on him, wanting more than just kissing and thigh grabbing and occasional choking. you beg into his mouth, quietly at first, but with each kiss he gives you, you become louder and more demanding.
"touch me, please, please, please," you're desperate.
he smiles, for the first time in a while, and snakes his hands under your top. you hurriedly take off the vest and the top, to make it easier for him, but he pulls his vest back on your body. you are now wearing nothing but panties and the leather vest, making daryl incredibly impatient.
"ya just needed some attention, didn't ya?" he kisses your neck, his hand cupping your breast and thumb playing with the hard nub. "some sense fucked into ya to shut that mouth."
for someone that almost never talks, he is quite the talker now. and you can't complain, when his words have you clenching around nothing down there.
"needed someone older to take care of ya."
you moan at his words, spreading your legs further and raising your hips into his crotch. his hand reaches down to your panties, landing a light slap on your clothed clit as a warning. there's growling outside of the shed, but not enough to make you care. you'll get what you want, and no amount of walkers will stop you, even if it'll be your last.
daryl moves your panties aside, pulling away from you to see you. he hums, thumb coming to contact with your clit and circling it a few times. you shake under his touch, throwing your head back. it isn't something you haven't done before, but the touch is foreign, and different. his fingers are rough and big, an opposite of the soft flesh of your clit. he rubs your slit up and down, enough to smear your arousal so he can touch you better.
"fuck..." you trail, grabbing the edges of the counter and digging your nails into the hard surface.
"didn't find a boy your age to open you up?"
you shake your head. he hums again, fingers now circling your tight entrance.
"that's a shame, then. i'm gonna have to take my time with you."
"what? why?" you ask, disappointed.
"i'd split you in half, little one."
every word in that sentence sent arrows to your core. fuck, just how big is he?
"then, what are we doing?"
he turns around, leaving you yearning for his touch while he grabs your discarded toy from the armchair.
"you share toys?"
"sometimes."
"good."
he pulls himself out from his pants, and you are left with your jaw dropped. it fuels his confidence, the way you're staring at him as he rubs himself up and down. he isn't big. he's huge.
"daryl, how will that fit in me?" you ask, actually concerned.
"it'll take a little time. i'll train ya, and you'll take it like a good girl, the way i teach ya. but ya have to start listening to me and stop pissing me off."
nodding eagerly, you push your hips towards his hands, searching for his touch again.
he turns the gadget on, pressing it against your clit. you moan out loud, grinding on the buzzing toy and sliding with ease. you hear him grunt, and even a quiet moan. your eyes drop to the situation between your legs, and when you see him pressing his cock to the gadget, you swear you could squirt all over him. he rocks his hips with yours, pushing you up against the wall and grunting in your mouth, just like you moan into his. he doesn't break eye contact with you, instead getting off on it.
"i'm gonna cum, daryl." you whine, hands reaching into his hair to pull.
"give me a second."
you'd give him two if he wanted. you try your hardest to focus on not yet cumming, but the way he sweats and grunts for you doesn't make it easy.
"daryl-" you warn, moans becoming high pitched and inviting the walkers around the shed.
he sticks two fingers in your mouth, keeping you silent and helping himself get closer. you only needed to swirl your tongue around him a few time and take him all the way to his knuckles to have him moaning and cumming all over your stomach, rubbing the toy up and down in a sloppy pace.
you follow, pleasure washing over your body along with a thin layer of sweat, the sight of his seed on you making it more intense. you are dehydrated, hot and filthy. and you love it, because he is the same. you'd be like that every day, if it meant getting him the way you just had him.
"you didn't have to..." you say as he helps you dress up, wiping his seed from you with his bandana and discarding it.
"i wanted to. before, today, too."
"you sure?"
"yes."
you nod. he sees that you are not convinced, and he sighs. he pulls you in for a hug, resting his chin on the top of your head.
"i rarely regret my actions. trust me."
"yeah, well, i hope i'll get more of these actions you speak of."
he chuckles, planting a kiss on your forehead.
"you know, for someone who just came all over me, it's weird to see you so sentimental and comforting."
you don't even finish the sentence, he already playfully throws the bandana at you, rushing outside to hide his smile and to hide from your attempt at attacking.
"oh, you- you- you asshole!"
"right back at ya."

Yandere Superfam x Reader
The pregnancy was quite unexpected. Clark was so busy saving the galaxy this past month that he didn't have much time for Lois.
So when Clark discovers that Lois is pregnant after attempting to tell him several times and being ditched before she really had a chance, he feels terrible. How could he not have known his gorgeous wife was pregnant all along? Clark should have known, given his superhearing abilities.
He is also disappointed with Jon for not telling him sooner.
It's a given that as soon as he discovers of the pregnancy, he will pamper Lois to make up for every time she tried to tell him and to support her throughout her pregnancy.
Jon is thrilled to be a big brother; he has always wanted a younger sibling. It gets lonely when Damian isn't there to spend out with him, so the idea of having someone to hang out with every day is exciting. Jon has so much to teach his younger sibling.
When you are born, they're immediately in love. You look so cute and little in their arms, and they never want to let go. You've got them wrapped around your chubby little fingers.
Your nursery room is abandoned as soon as they take you home; you don't need it anyway, you could just sleep in your parents room, just cuddle in their arms safe. You would sometimes sleep in Jon's room if they'd let him
Their hearts fall into pieces everytime you cry especially if you get hurt by something or someone. It barely improved Superman's morale in the world and ensured that the planet would be the safest place for his baby to walk, if yk what I mean.
And don't get me started on the day you received your first shot as a baby. Jon was crying harder than you ever have, and Clark, who is holding you, is glaring so intensely at the doctor that if it's not the laser burning holes at the doctor, I don't know what it is, Lois is there to make sure that Clark doesn't actually burn holes at the doctor.
Jon is the best brother you'll ever have, and he will make sure of it. He dislikes sharing your attention with folks his age, save for his friend Damian, who may also be your friend! Just don't go too far and treat his friend as a brother figure, otherwise Jon will go insane. As I previously stated, Jon dislikes sharing his baby sibling; he is the only one you may refer to as brother; no one else.
Your father, Clark, will do everything in the world to make sure that his baby is happy at all times; if not, at least more frequently. He can't stay strict on your adorable face, especially when you make grabby hands to get what you want. It takes all to resist cooing and kissing your chubby cheeks, which he eventually can't take it anymore and just ends up doing anyhow.
Meanwhile, Lois is a little strict with you; she doesn't want you to grow up bratty, although she believes you will never be since her little cute baby is too gentle and nice to be that kind of child, so her strictness is not as frequent. She will also spoil her baby in the same way as the boys do; her baby deserves the best. Period.
They love you so much that they're willing to give up on everything if it means saving you from any danger
They also have all of the documentaries of your first time events, from the day you were held by your mother to the first day of school.
As you grew older, they became more paranoid
There are moments when you are put in a life-or-death situation, but luckily for you, there are many superheroes who are willing to save you because they are terrified of Superman, the man of steel, turning into bunkers.
The heroes connected to the league already know a lot about you, most likely because Superman can't stop talking about his baby whenever he's with someone or in a meeting. It's terrible, especially since the league is discussing some serious dangers, and then Superman comes in and says, "This is bad for my baby; I wonder what they're doing right now."
The joker kidnaps you one day, frightening your family to the core. Clark and Jon are both unable to hear or see you. They have no idea where you are. Lois was already crying when she couldn't find you in the house; she cried till her throat hurt, and that's when you understand something is serious when Superman calls Batman for help, dilated eyes, disheveled hair, and hyperventilating. Which Batman tried to calm him down and called for the league help him find you before Superman goes insane and starts flipping the world upside down. And when they finally found you, your family locked you up in the house forever.
Lois hugged her babbling baby who is unaware that you're never ever going to have a glimpse of the world ever again. It's the only way to make you safe, if you don't want them to lock you up in a bubble.

dividers as always by the lovely @saradika-graphics đ€
Over the following days, something of a routine forms between the three of you.Â
Joel spends most of his time resting, asleep more often than not, the shape of him on your couch a picture that you grow familiar with. But as his fever goes down and the skin around his injury is less red than when you first laid eyes on it, you allow yourself the tentative hope that you might have been able to actually save him.Â
Youâre becoming less skittish around him, getting used to his rather gruff demeanor, slowly realizing that what Ellie said was indeed true, itâs not about you. You come to think he just doesnât like needing and accepting help.
Ellie follows you around like a puppy, eager to soak up every scrap of knowledge that you can share with her. Itâs not much, you think, mostly cooking, the task of turning supplies into various meals, given the limited resources that you have in this world. You like having her around, the almost constant stream of chatter and questions never annoying you.
It fills your usual silence, helps keeping you grounded in the present. Most of the time.
Now that you have company, it becomes painfully obvious to you how much time you spend in your head, just sitting and staring straight ahead, lost in your thoughts, oblivious to the time passing. You have taken to having a book open in your lap, to make it seem like youâre reading, but you find yourself looking down at the page without seeing it, not sure when you last turned it.Â
Itâs not what they would have wanted, you keep telling yourself, trying to shake yourself out of it. Well, itâs not like anything happened the way we wanted, the bitter voice in your head answers.
If Ellie or Joel notice, they donât ask about it. You hear their voices in the night sometimes, both of them sleeping in your parentsâ bedroom now, since the couch was starting to hurt Joelâs back.Â
You donât lock your door anymore, leaving it ajar, just like them. The thought of someone else being down here with you is soothing you, the fear of them being a possible threat basically nonexistent at this point. Instead, a different kind of fear sets in.Â
They havenât talked about where they are going, but you know that theyâre not gonna stay forever. Once Joel is completely healed, and winter has given way to spring, theyâll most likely be off again, leaving you on your own again. You donât want to grow attached, but itâs difficult not to, while being with other constantly.Â
You and Joel are taking longer to warm up to each other than you and Ellie have, but youâve gotten used to having him around you. Itâs a quiet, but trustworthy, reassuring thing, his presence in your space. Now that heâs healing, heâs someone who you trust to take responsibility, to take care of things if needed. Youâre not sure how you know, but youâre certain that he is.
One evening, Ellie finds the DVD collection thatâs stashed away in the cabinet under the small TV in the corner of the room. You hadnât watched anything in forever, not sure if itâs even still working, but her enthusiasm makes it impossible to turn her down.Â
Even Joel pipes up at the prospect of a movie night, crouching down next to her to sift through the DVDs. Theyâre both drawn to the shitty action movies â usually not your preferred taste, but you find the corners of your mouth lifting when they both turn around simultaneously, looking for your approval of their choice.Â
Joel pushes himself back up with a grunt, pressing the button on the TV and making it spring to life without issue. You settle deeper into the couch cushions, pulling a knitted blanket over yourself as you watch the opening credits play.Â
Itâs so comfortable, so normal, and you want to get lost in the feeling in a way that makes your heart ache. Ellie sits down beside you to share the blanket while Joel stretches his legs out on the other couch. A smile is tugging at his lips when he catches you looking at him, but it canât hide the wariness in his eyes, mirroring your own. Itâs the feeling of things being too good to be true, the fear of nothing good ever lasting, of the world crashing down around you again, that always accompanies you, and without asking, you know that he feels it too. You cast your eyes back to the screen, trying hard not to get yourself lost in the fear, but to enjoy the moments of peace while they last.Â
Ellie loves the movie, her eyes wide at every action-packed sequence, gasping at every explosion. At one of the more absurd scenes, you canât contain the burst of laughter that bubbles up your throat. Youâre unexpectedly joined by the deeper rumble of Joelâs, a sound that you havenât heard before.Â
You glance at him, to find his eyes already on you, an emotion in them that you canât place. Neither of you say a word, both quietly returning your eyes to the TV.Â
When youâre lying in bed later that night, you still feel the smile on your face.Â
While your closeness with Ellie came quickly, almost taking you by storm, itâs a quiet, slowly growing thing with Joel.Â
It begins with him lingering in the kitchen when youâre preparing the morning coffee, asking you questions about the place, about keeping supplies, electricity, the safety measures. He helps you with cooking, grumbling about giving something back when you protest.Â
Heâs gruff, no comparison to Ellieâs lively chatter and endless questions, and it makes you nervous at first. But you get used to him, his more quiet demeanor, his dry humor. You can tell that heâs trying hard not to scare you again, avoiding sudden movements or getting loud, and while you appreciate it, you also canât help but wonder how broken you must seem from the outside.Â
He doesnât ask prying questions about your past, how youâve come to live here all alone, though you have to imagine that heâs curious. You donât ask him about his either, even if you do wonder how he and Ellie ended up together. Itâs a quiet mutual understanding and youâre grateful for it.Â
You have to believe that he had his fair share of loss in his own life, that the both of them had; an inescapable reality at this point in the worldâs history.
Itâs like a silent camaraderie when he catches your eye as Ellie is reading out puns to the both of you once more, rolls his eyes in a way that still holds so much love for the girl next to you, but that fills you with the urge to giggle. It stops you in your tracks the first time it happens, the sensation so unfamiliar to you that you canât place it for a second.Â
When you smile at him, the corners of his mouth rise ever so slightly as well, before he huffs an exaggerated sigh at the joke that you just heard. It riles Ellie up, just like he wanted to, you suspect. But you block out her bickering at him, busy with your own thoughts. One thought in particular, one that you havenât had about anyone since you were a teenager.Â
Joel is kind of pretty when he smiles.
The both of them have also taken to working their way through the bookshelf thatâs taking up most of one of the walls. Itâs mostly guidebooks on hunting, gardening, self defense, anything that your father deemed possibly useful. Over time, you had added books from your old bedroom, the one upstairs, that you had hastily carried down the stairs, hoping for the familiar words to give you a sense of normalcy in a world where nothing was normal anymore.Â
Joel sometimes talks to you about them, asking your opinion on which ones to read, discussing their contents with you. Over time, you realize that he does it when youâre zoning out, pulling you back into reality with the drawl of his low voice next to you. Youâre thankful for it, not used to being cared for like this, but also mortified that as it seems, he does notice when youâre too deep inside your head.
Itâs one of those afternoons, youâre just about to start preparing dinner, when Ellie asks if you have more books somewhere, about something cool. âLike what?â you reply, an easy smile on your face.Â
âI donât know,â she shrugs, âlike comics, maybe? Ohh, or something about space?âÂ
It takes a moment before the words register, before they form a picture in your mind, the memory of exactly what sheâs asking for. You stop in your tracks, frozen on your way to the kitchen. Your toes dig into the carpet beneath your bare feet. A faint trembling starts in your hands and slowly spreads through your body.Â
Ellie says your name, an edge in her voice. Youâre not sure what your face looks like.Â
Your wide eyes find hers, looking up at you from where she was spread out on the floor, her hair splaying out over the scratchy rug, one of your books held over her head. You had joked about how that position couldnât be comfortable a few minutes ago.Â
You see Joel from the corner of your eye, slowly raising to his feet from the couch cushions. It feels like you canât breathe, like youâre sucking in air but it doesnât reach your lungs.Â
A large, warm hand lands on your shoulder, making you jump. Joel rubs soothing circles over your back, your name a low rumble on his lips.Â
âItâsâ itâs not a problem if not,â Ellie murmurs, sitting up slowly, her eyes flicking between you and Joel, uncertainty written over her features.Â
You force a shuddering breath in, using the sensation of Joelâs hand splayed over your back to ground yourself. Nodding your head, you will your voice to travel up your throat.Â
âYeah no, Iâ just a second.âÂ
Joel repeats your name, more questioning this time, but you ignore it, feet carrying you into the bathroom where you quickly shut the door behind you. Skin stretching over your knuckles, you stand over the sink, gripping its edges to stay upright.Â
Itâs what he would have wanted. He would have been so happy to share them. Itâs true, you know what.Â
Youâre not sure whatâs worse. Going in there yourself, crossing the threshold of a room that you havenât entered in years, havenât even opened the door to, or letting someone else do it, let them disturb the memory of a reality that youâve tried to preserve in there. Too painful to touch, but too important to let go of.Â
Steeling yourself, you return to the living area. Ellie and Joel are sitting close to each other, both of their heads flying up at the door opening. Itâs obvious that they have been talking about you. You bite your lip.Â
Ellie rises to her feet slowly, takes a tentative step toward you. âListen, itâs not that important reallyââ She sounds like sheâs talking to a skittish animal.Â
You shake your head, not trusting your voice not to betray you. With a deep breath, you cross the room to the door beside yours. One of two that you keep firmly closed.Â
It creaks on its hinges when you open it slowly, your hand shaking on the handle. You try not to look around, to keep your eyes closed to the truth that nothing changed in here, and yet everything changed. Itâs stuffy, stagnant air thatâs been untouched for too long, but it smells like him. Like heâs still here with you.Â
You donât see the unmade bed, still carrying the trace of the last time he got up, the stuffed lion beside the pillow. Donât see the half finished drawings on the desk, or the mess of action figures in the corner. You grab the stack of comics from the nightstand, ignoring the way your vision blurs at the edges. Move on to the shelf, smaller than the one in the living room, blindly picking out random books.Â
When you step out of the bedroom, quickly pulling the door shut behind you again, neither Joel or Ellie have moved. You canât meet either oneâs gaze, donât want to see the expression in their eyes.
Ellie takes the stack of books from your outstretched hands, murmuring a thanks, and you sense that there are more words on the tip of her tongue. Questions, apologies, you donât know and you donât want to.Â
Turning on your heels, you escape into your own room, closing the door as quickly as you can before you collapse on your bed. Tears flood your eyes in time with the memories flooding your head, threatening to pull you under and drown you under their waves.Â
You hear their muffled voices through the door, but neither of them comes to disturb you. Youâre thankful for it, not needing anyone to witness you in this state. Eventually, you drift off into sleep, your mind gladly giving way to unconsciousness.
The following night is the first time that Joel has to shake you awake from a nightmare.

GymRat!Miguel who comes back home after nearly a week of bliss with you. He floated all the way home from dropping you off with Tylerâs people.
He made them wait much longer than they needed to when he decided to makeout with you next to the black Suburban.Â
Only a few more weeks before he could see you again.Â
GymRat!Miguel who is met with his mom sitting on the couch with just the tv glowing on her.Â
His steps were too heavy to sneak past her, so he just sighed and settled down on one of the plush chairs.Â
âI see youâre home,â she says. Her eyes donât move from the Golden Girls episode playing softly.Â
âSĂ, mamĂĄ.â
âHow come you didnât tell me where you went?â
âGabriel told you where I was. Iâm sure you asked him.â Miguel was tired already.Â
âHe did, pero eso no fue lo que te preguntĂ©.â (but thatâs not what I asked you)
âMa-â
âMijo.â
âYouâre not even looking at me.â
âAnd youâve sat so far away. Like Iâm going to hurt you. Miguel, I asked you to come home. You didnât respond. You didnât call. You didnât even speak to me when you came back a few days ago.â
Miguel stared at her face, willing himself not to get emotional over this.Â
âI acknowledge that I should have let you know where I was. I didnât talk to you because I didnât want to say something I would regret.â
Conchata finally turned to look at Miguel. Her first-born. The life given to her after so much turmoil.Â
She could still see the little boy that would cry at the drop of a hat. She could still see the little boy that would dry up his tears if Gabriel started to cry with him, just to comfort him. The little boy with so much room in his heart.Â
She can see him now, face ridden with sadness. A face that she knew too well.Â
âI didnât mean to hurt you, mijo.â
âWell, you did. Again. Iâm used to it. This isnât a new feeling. What is new, is you acting like this towards someone else close to me.â
âI-â
âLet me finish, ma, please. Youâve never been a parent that cares about how Iâve felt in regards to anything. You have made decisions for me without a second thought without ever considering how I might feel. Youâve also never been the type of person who hurts someone else for no reason. Iâm sorry Iâm not with someone you picked, but Iâm not sorry for loving her. She is everything to me. If I were to fall, thereâs no doubt in my mind that she would be there to build me back up. Sheâd probably even break my fall if I couldnât stop her.âÂ
Miguel stopped to look up, willing himself not to cry.Â
âWhat you said to her brought something out that she hasnât felt in a while. You broke her in a way that I promised myself I never would. I wanted to present her to my family in a positive light, to show her off. I didnât expect you to be ecstatic about her, but I did hope that you could at least open your heart up once you met her.â
He looked off, tears escaping from his eyes. Youâre in a better position now, but he wonât know if that donner will creep back up on you, making you hate yourself for something thatâs not your fault. He remembered the pain in your voice, how kept it in until you were with him and away from the manor. He hated it.Â
âBut instead, she was met with two people who paid her no respect. Two people that brought her turmoil. I expected Kron to be horrible, look at how he talked to you, but not you. You were supposed to be better. You didnât see how much you hurt her, I did. Itâs like we prepped for nothing but a shitshow and I should have followed my gut and kept her to myself a little longer.â
Miguel sniffed, wiping at his nose in hopes that it would stop the urge to cry.Â
Conchata let the silence rest. Nothing but the TV and her sonâs sniffles filled the room.Â
âIâm sorry, Miguel.â
Miguel turned back. Shocked that she didnât put up much of a fight.Â
âI just,â she paused. âThereâs no excuse for how I treated her. She didnât deserve it and if I could go back and change my behavior, I would. I think that I was just overwhelmed. Upset because my baby is growing up. Heâs moving on and I canât hold him in my hands anymore. I donât tuck him in anymore. I donât have to check under his bed for monsters. He doesnât need me to do anything. So this shift is hurting me, mijo, and I took it out on the wrong people. For that, Iâm so sorry.â
Conchata was a hard-cased woman. She stuck with her opinions, even if they were blatantly wrong. She was proud and vocal. She never let people see her crack or fall under pressure. So, seeing her like this, begging for Miguel to understand her, was a rare moment for Miguel.Â
âMa, me growing up doesnât stop me from being your son. Iâm still here. Iâll still rely on you, but I want you to have a break too. You have to let me grow. I wonât live here forever, but that doesnât mean I wonât come back to you. Iâm glad you were able to express this to me, I just wish you could have said so sooner.â
âLo siento, mijo.â
Miguel got up to get closer to her. He wrapped her up in his arms, too easy to forgive her. âItâs ok.â
He leans back and kisses her forehead, heart mending by the smallest of stitches. âYou still have to apologize to my girlfriend, though.â
âI will when I see her again.â
âAnd we need to go to therapy.â
âGeorge has already told me.â
âAnd I want you to make me some ceviche. And tamales.â
âBueno.â
âAnd tres leches.âÂ
She sighed, but squeezed him tighter. âDonât curse in front of me again, and Iâll consider it.â
âGracias, mamĂĄ.â
âDe nada, mijo.â
GymRat!Miguel who goes to sleep with his body feeling a lot lighter. The weight of his relationship with his mom lifted a little off his shoulders.
GymRat!Miguel who has two grand master plans that heâs been setting out for months: eating you out and making your first time together special.Â
Heâs been overthinking every detail like a maniac. The peaches from the fruit bowl have been disappearing to his room for research purposes only- and a snack of course.Â
He once ended up on the girl side of Tik Tok where they complain about everything guys get wrong when pleasuring them. He had been thoroughly reading the comments and taking notes here and there. He didnât really need the tip about making noise though, he already does that just thinking about you. So many times has he had to stuff his mouth when jerking off.Â
He also had a few tabs open in incognito mode. That research is only done in the deep of the night.Â
Right now, heâs sitting at his desk reading some article about listening to your partnerâs body and his mind canât help but to wander off. Will you grip your thighs around him? He hopes so. He could die that way. Will you be vocal? Will you tell him if itâs too much? Will you guide his head and pull his hair?Â
That last question has him gripping his sweats in anticipation. No doubt when you scratched at his back in the hotel room, he was reeling from the sensation. It was like a reward for him whenever you feel so good, youâre too unaware of what youâre doing to him physically. Too lost in bliss to register the marks and pain youâre leaving on him. You just want him to give you more.Â
Miguel drops his pen and pushes the heel of his palm on his growing bulge.Â
âFuck.â Every time about an hour or so into researching, his head is full of you. He imagines what itâll be like to finally taste you, to be inside you.Â
He remembered how wet you got with just a little rubbing. Your body was so responsive to his movements and he couldnât stop thinking about what would happen if you guys upped the foreplay.Â
Miguel leaned back in his chair, arm over his head. He dropped his hand in his sweats hand gripping at the base of his erection, exhaling deep as he gave it a few pumps.Â
Your hands on his chest. Your arms around his neck. Your nails scraping his back. Your thighs wrapping around his waist. Your breath on his lips.Â
You opening up for him. You dripping down his fingers, down his legs, down his face. You screaming out his name loud enough for the entire neighborhood to file a complaint. You in whatever position he puts you in. He could hold you up. Maybe have your legs in the air or stretched out on the bed. He could have you grabbing for the sheets, the headboard, him. His head in your chest, in your pussy, in your ass.Â
Pre-cum spilled onto his stomach, rolling down his shaft. Would you let him go that far?
He doesnât know whatâs worse, the cold showers and teeth-marked arms at the beginning of the relationship or his constant daydreams of your body connecting with his that kept occurring regularly.Â
Maybe you felt the same way too. That was a new thought.Â
Do you wonder about your first time together? Were you just as excited as him? Do you get wet at the thought of him inside of you? Do you have to stop everything and find pleasure like he does? Were your fingers enough or did you need more?
Miguel continued to move his hand up and down, squeezing occasionally to mimic what you might feel like.Â
Heâs groaning into his elbow, hips lifting from his desk chair.Â
He could almost hear your voice in his ear. Begging, praising, crying out, stuttering.Â
GymRat!Miguel who cums as Gabriel slams through the door. In a matter of 15 seconds, Miguel covers his drenched chest, shoves his sensitive dick back down, and grabs napkins to try to wipe away at his hand.Â
Nevermind his shirt is now ruined.Â
âWhat the fuck are you looking at and why is this picture showing a seductive pomegranate?â
âWhy the fuck are you opening my door without knocking?â
âI did knock! I did our special knock plus a freestyle! I thought you were dead, Miguelito.â
Miguelâs heart felt a little tug despite its rapid tempo, ââM not dead, Gabri. Just busy. I didnât hear you.â
Gabriel snickered when he got closer to look at his laptop. âI can see why. These tabs are a dead giveaway.âÂ
Gabriel reached over to stare at Miguelâs notebook.Â
âThese are some good tips! You shouldnât expect her to taste like sweets, though.â
Nothing in his notes indicated that, but Miguel wanted to be offended for you anyway.Â
Miguel gave Gabriel a hard side eye, mouth set deeply down.Â
âI really wish you would get out of my room.â
âOo, you should buy a rose. Dana loves that thing.â
âI donât want to hear about whatever freaky shit you and Dana get up to, Gabriel.â
âYouâve caught me in more embarrassing situations, Iâm just trying to lighten the mood! I also suggest those candy panties-â
âIâm not putting candy on- Gabriel. Can you please stop talking to me?â
âMiguel, this stuff is important!â
âÂżPor quĂ© eres asĂ?â Miguel mumbled. âOk, yeah. I get it. But you can chat to me about this after Iâve switched shirts.â (Why are you like this?)
âFine, Iâll come back. Ten minutes. Then we must have a healthy chat about how to have fun safely.â
Gabriel skipped back to the door singing Candy loud enough to be heard as he went back to his own room.Â
âStrawberry! Raspberry! All those good things! Violets and gumdrops thatâs what youâre saying to me, me, me.â
A black hole would be nice to save himself from this situation.Â
GymRat!Miguel who jumps out of his bed the day of the âYacht Weekend.â Gabriel is dead set on calling it the âYachty Pawtyâ and Miguel thinks thatâs unbelievably stupid.Â
GymRat!Miguel who has to go and pull Gabriel out of his bed to get him to get ready, his body stretching like a ferret. Heâs never been a morning person. Itâs like his brain didnât start computing until noon.Â
GymRat!Miguel who jogs around the neighborhood to kill time. The weather is a lot cooler in the morning plus it gives Gabriel time to come to reality. He waves to the son of one of his neighbors who gawks at him as he passes by.Â
Were his shorts giving away too much again? He didnât feel a draft.Â
He looked down at his crotch. All good.Â
GymRat!Miguel who calls you while he stops to take a water break.Â
âAmor!â His voice is bright and his smile is radiant, watching as you squint at the screen.
Your cheek is squished against the pillow and youâre wrapped up in your covers.Â
âHey, Miggy. Itâs so bright there.â
Your voice was scratchy, a sign of how deep in sleep you were. You were so fucking cute.Â
âAre you running?â
He placed his phone on a nearby bench so he could stretch. âYeah, Iâm taking a break.â
He went into a deep lunge, stretching his body low to the ground.Â
You went quiet for so long, Miguel thought the call dropped.Â
âBaby? Did you go back to sleep?â Miguel asked.
âNo, Iâm still here. Those pants are,â you started to shuffle your phone. âReally short.â
âReally?â Miguel stood up and looked down at his pants. They did cut off high up his thighs, but they were good for running. Plus, he got hot easily, so he needed as much wind on his skin as possible. âTheyâre comfy.â
âMm hm. Can you turn around for me?â
Miguel turned, confused but willing.Â
âGot it. Thank you, my muscle bear!â
âWhat did you just do?â
âTook pictures of your ass. It looks great. Iâm gonna hold it real good later.â
Miguel laughed and grabbed his phone.Â
âCan I hold yours, too?â He wanted to do way more than hold it.Â
You smile sleepily at the camera. âIâll think about it.â
GymRat!Miguel who lets you stay on the phone while he runs back to the house.Â
âYouâre just going to hear the wind and me breathing for a few minutes.â
âAnd Iâm fine with that! Itâs like boyfriend ASMR. Peaceful.â
GymRat!Miguel who ruffles Gabrielâs hair when he gets back home. Heâs staring at the wall and shoveling cereal in his mouth at the slowest pace known to man.Â
âBuenos dĂas, hermanito!â (Good morning, little brother)
âMm.â
GymRat!Miguel who takes a cold shower to cool off for once and not because heâs having explicit thoughts of you.Â
GymRat!Miguel who chugs down a protein smoothie while he waits for Gabriel to come downstairs.Â
GymRat!Miguel who answers the door to Dana. Sheâs got some shades on and a purse with the same texture as a croc.Â
She peers over her shades. âYouâre looking put together!â
âWhat do you mean by that?â
âDonât play dumb. Youâre trying to impress your girl! What do you have planned? A dinner on the horizon? A spa date? Oh! No! Another shopping spree?l
Yes. No, but he should arrange that. And absolutely not. Heâs not Tyler.Â
âNo,â Miguel squints. âBut how can you tell?â
âYouâre easy to read, big guy. Even when you think about her your eyes turn into hearts. When have you ever thought to wear a button down for a roadtrip to the beach?â
âTouche.â
âIâll figure out what youâre up to. I have my ways.â
She twirls and runs up to Gabrielâs room, leaving a waft of strong perfume after her.Â
With that, Miguel knew it would be at least another 45 minutes before he could get on the road.Â
GymRat!Miguel who does his special knock on Gabrielâs door.Â
âIâm opening it, so you fiends better have your clothes on.â
He swung the door open to the disheveled couple. Dana with her hair astray and Gabriel breathing eerily hard.Â
âSeriously, guys? I need to go by the airport.â
âI was just waking him up!â Dana says with a voice that was much hoarser than it was an hour ago.Â
âWell,â Miguel put a hand on his hip in a way that anyone could tell he was Conchata OâHaraâs son. âAre you awake, Gabri?â
Gabrielâs face was as red as a tomato as he shook his head no.Â
Miguel pitched his voice higher to mimic his brother. âTen minutes. And then we can have a conversation on time management and respect. Except it wonât be âsafelyâ because Iâm going to hurt you.â
GymRat!Miguel who finally backs out of the driveway in exactly ten minutes. Gabriel is rubbing his arm in the passenger seat with a pout on his face. Dana is grinning from ear to ear.Â
GymRat!Miguel who hands Gabriel the aux. He might be a silly boy, but his music taste is immaculate.
GymRat!Miguel who almost has to hurt Gabriel again when he doesnât want to get out of the passenger seat.Â
âWhy do I have to move?â
âBecause I said so.â
âThatâs not grounds for anything!â
Dana pokes her head over the console. âGabie. Read the room. He wants to grip on to his girl while he drives with one hand. Show off.âÂ
GymRat!Miguel who kisses you and grabs your bags at the same time when he sees you. The cars around are loud, honking sporadically. People are walking and running to catch cabs or get to their loved ones. Workers are trying to direct the traffic.Â
It all quiets down when he meets your eyes.Â
âHola, mi amor.â
You wrap your arms around his neck and bring him close. âHello to you too, my love.â
You smile up until he presses his lips against yours. More and more pecks follow after that.Â
He holds his nose to yours, completely enraptured by your presence.Â
âOh my god, letâs go!â Gabriel shouts from the car, pressing his palm against the steering wheel.Â
âYouâre not the one driving, pinche pendejo!â
You giggle and stand on your tippy toes to try and see over Miguelâs shoulder. Youâre still too short so you lean sideways. Miguel melts.Â
âJust a few more and weâll be done Gabriel!â
âFine. For you, Iâll let it slide.â
You stand back up straight and kiss Miguel a little more.Â
GymRat!Miguel who does reach over and grip your thigh. If Gabriella and Troy werenât in the back belting, heâd hike his hand up further.Â
âRight now I can hardly breathe!â Gabriel pivots his head towards Dana dramatically, water bottle a faux mic.Â
âOh! You can do it, just know that I believe.â Dana is touching his chest dramatically.Â
âAre they always like this?â You ask, laughing a little at their antics.Â
Miguel groans in annoyance. âYes.â
GymRat!Miguel who nearly sprints out the car when he parks by a pump. Heâs been riding for a bit and he needs to stretch his legs.Â
âMiggy, you want something from the store?âÂ
Youâre standing next to the car, the wind blowing your hair back. Your jacket blows away a little, showing off the tight little outfit youâre sporting. Youâre beautiful.Â
He wants to break you down in the front seat of his car.
He swallows the thought. âIâll come in there soon, donât worry.â
You walk in the giant gas station and head immediately to the Icee machines. For the best possible experience, you should wait until itâs time to go before buying it.Â
As youâre walking along the wall wondering what flavor you should get, you feel a tug at your arm.Â
You turn to see Dana with some bottles in her hand.Â
âI donât know what heâs planning, but trust me when I say, you should take these.â
You frown as you take the cranberry juice. âUm.â
âIâve been around those two long enough to know when one of them is up to something. I mean Gabriel hasnât said anything off, but look at how heâs bopping around the store.â
You turn and look.Â
He is indeed bouncing more than usual. Heâs so tall that if he puts even more pep in his step, he might just break a hole in the ceiling.Â
âOk,â you turn back to Dana while fighting a laugh. âSo they are planning something. What does that have to do with me and cranberry juice?â
âGabie tries his best to use bro code, but I quite literally suck the information out of him sometimes. He caught Miguel looking at lots of articles about pleasuring his partner. With his mouth. Thatâs all I know for now.â
Your heart picks up. He was still going on about that?
âThat might just be a coincidence.âÂ
âHeâs wearing damn near beach attire with his hair styled. He held onto your thigh for an hour, even when the turns got tough. He stared at you walking into the store even until he couldnât see you anymore.â
You bit your lip. âThose last two things are standard Miguel behavior.â
Dana huffs and spins you around.Â
Across the store, you could see Miguel and Gabriel huddled over something. Miguel with his eyes focused and Gabriel animatedly explaining something. Every once in a while, Miguel would nod and roll his eyes up as if he was mentally checking on something.Â
You sigh and turn back around.Â
âDo they sell pineapples too?â
GymRat!Miguel who looms over you while you and Dana are looking at some cakes. You look up at him, pressing your head against his chest.Â
Miguel kissed your forehead when you beamed at him.Â
He looked over to Gabriel who was also crowding Dana and shouted, âÂĄVamos!â
In a matter of seconds, Miguel had lifted you and brought you to the middle of the store where the workers were cooking up fresh meat.Â
You squeal in shock and laugh on the way over. Miguelâs not even struggling.Â
Gabriel on the other hand huffs as he places Dana down.Â
âYou need to work on that, babe.â
âI can lift you when I want to!â Gabriel replies, petulant.Â
âFor like one minute maybe. Why donât you start working out with Miguel?â
âNo thanks.â They both said in unison, almost carbon copies of each other.Â
Really, if Miguel didnât work out, or if Gabriel did for about a year, they could definitely play off as twins. Only subtle things separating them, like Gabrielâs freckles, softer face, and slightly shorter height and Miguelâs less curly hair, thicker eyebrows, and deeper voice.Â
In your eyes, their bond was precious. You wondered what their baby pictures looked like.Â
âYou guys are so cute,â you say, reaching up to squeeze both of their cheeks.Â
They both melt the same way in your hands. Miguelâs face is only a little bit hotter against your palm.Â
GymRat!Miguel who presses up against you while you both check out. You stay nonchalant and talk to the cashier like normal, but you could feel Miguelâs heartbeat through your thin romper.Â
Every breath he took molded on your skin, his chest rising and falling against your head.Â
He kept steady hands on your hips and waist, only moving them to pay for your snacks.Â
The cashier would take not-so-subtle breaks to stare up at him, face getting redder after each glance.Â
You could only think âme too, girl.â
He really did look good today. His shirt was open a little lower than normal, his shorts loose but tightening around his thighs with every step he took. His hair was slicked back with a few strands falling loose and shades sat perfectly on top of his head. A chain danced around his neck, the color glowing on his pretty skin. He was tanner than usual, the sun making him glow after so many morning runs.Â
To top it off he smelled really good. You wanted to lick him.Â
From how slow the cashier was moving, you knew she was ready to take a lick too.Â
You took moments like this in stride. Especially when Miguel was pressed so hard against you, you could feel his dick at the small of your back.Â
Still, when people still tried to hit on your boyfriend or gawked at him even when you caught them, it was hard not feel frustrated about others thinking he can be taken from you. Or just ignoring you.Â
More often than not, Miguel would bring you back down to earth with some action to let others know that heâs taken.Â
Today, it was a kiss to your neck and a smack to your ass followed by his hand rubbing circles in the same spot.Â
He grabbed the bags in one hand and your hip in the other.Â
You looked back to the cashier scanning the next customer far more aggressively than before. Â
GymRat!Miguel who eats half of his sandwich before starting the car back up.Â
You still place the other half in front of his mouth, feeding him occasionally.Â
He just smiles before and after each bite. Giddy with attention. You wipe his mouth to stop sauce from spilling from his shirt.Â
Miguel almost turns the car into turbo drive.Â
GymRat!Miguel who finally makes it to the beach an hour or so later. Itâs late Thursday afternoon, so the sun is still shining bright.Â
Gabriel is excited to finally be free from the tight back seat so he uses the opportunity to blast music from Miguelâs stereo.Â
âCâmon, Dana! Dance with me,â Gabriel said, pulling her out of the back seat and bringing her to the front of the var. âLetâs have a twerk-off.â
You canât stop the laugh that spills out of your mouth. You couldnât imagine either of them shaking anything.Â
âI can not twerk and you know it!â
âThat doesnât mean you canât shake. Donât be shy now!â
You and Miguel get out of the car to stretch, Miguel watching the two over the hood of the car, unphased.Â
Gabriel turns to you with a glint in his eyes. âCan you twerk?â
You were ready to shake your ass on a yacht after some liquid courage, but you didnât mind a little dancing beforehand.Â
You hurried to the front before the song was over and put your hands on the hood. You bend over with an arch in your back and move your ass to the beat of the song.Â
You hear Gabriel shout, âOh shit! Go, go, go!â
Dana sprints, nearly bulldozing Gabriel to stand behind you and catch it. You laugh at the two and bend even deeper, encouraged by their cheers.Â
GymRat!Miguel whose eyes nearly pop out of his head when you bend over.Â
When did you learn how to do that?
Heâs stunned for a second until he reaches inside the car and turns the radio off. Heâs going to kill Gabriel.Â
Miguel hurries to the front and picks Dana up by her armpits to move her aside. âYou guys are wasting my gas and neither you or you are CashApping me shit.â
He straightens you up and pulls your risen romper back over your ass. He stands behind you like a bodyguard, arms crossed and frown deepening.Â
âI donât know what you think weâre going to be doing on this yacht, but all of my girls are throwing it back. You need to prepare yourself, Mig.â Dana scoffs, mostly offended that Miguel just removed her from a dream spot.Â
âYeah, Mig. Be mindful of why you were invited to the function,â Gabriel turned his nose up and wrapped his arm around Dana. âNow, if youâll excuse us, mâlady.â
Gabriel bowed to you and you curtsied back with a fake dress. The two of them walked like royalty to the trunk, gathering their bags.Â
GymRat!Miguel who stuttered trying to explain himself when you turned to him.Â
âIs it going to be a problem for you that Iâm dancing with others?â
âNo!â he said way too fast.Â
You gave him a look with your eyebrow raised.Â
âYou just,â he paused. His voice got quieter as he played with the strap of your romper. âYou never danced on me before.â
He had a pout on his face, mouth turned like a duck.Â
âOh my god, Miguel. I can dance on you if you would like. You just have to ask.â He was so cute. Youâve never seen him get that jealous before.Â
You kind of want to play with him some more.Â
âCan you dance on me later?â he asks, not daring to meet your eyes.Â
âOf course.â
You giggle as you kiss his cheek. His pout slowly disappearing from his face.Â
GymRat!Miguel who is greeted by the enthusiastic captain with a shake that moves his entire arm. Heâs a jolly little fellow, cheeks rosy and his mustache curled on the ends. He was also strangely stocky. He reminded Miguel of Santa Claus if he took vacations in the Bahamas when heâs not at the North Pole.Â
âI take it youâre Mr. Stoneâs son, yes?â
âThat would be me.â
âExcellent! Excellent. Your father has told me quite a lot about you. You sure do take after his height. My name is Captain Barrett and Iâll be steering the boat for you youngins this weekend. Me and your father go way back. And between you and me, I was better lookinâ!â
Miguel chuckles awkwardly, trying to move the conversation along.Â
He finally looks past Miguel and sees the three of you standing there.Â
âAnd who might you three be?â
âThis is my younger brother, Gabriel. His girlfriend, Dana.âÂ
âAnd this is my girlfriend.â Miguel moves by your side and wraps his arm around your shoulders. His tone is full of warmth as he says your name.Â
âItâs nice to meet you all. Will you all be in our cabins this weekend?â
âYeah, this is four of the ten staying on board. The others wonât get here until tomorrow at noon.â
âIs Kron supposed to be joining you all too?â
Miguel stiffens, his grip on your shoulder a little firmer.Â
âNot that I know of, no.â
âPerfect! He ruined my other boat and it took me ages to clean it up. Hopefully, youâre nothing like him.â Captain Barrett does a little pleading gesture with his hands.Â
âWelp, follow me and Iâll show you on board!â
GymRat!Miguel who is still stunned by the amount of things money can buy when he sees the yacht. Heâll never get used to the life of luxury that Tyler introduces to him.Â
âHoly shit,â Gabriel mutters as he stares up at the black and wooden beauty of the deck. Dana elbows in his side, telling him to be polite in front of the captain.Â
âWelcome to Black Jack.â
There were crew members there to hand out fancy smoothies and grab everyoneâs bags.Â
You had seen yachts on some of your old high school classmatesâ Insta stories but this was beyond.Â
âIâd like to introduce you guys to the crew. Theyâll be assisting me to give you youngins a good time.â
Captain Barrett ran down the line and you all greeted every person. Miguel made mental notes of their names. Theyâll be getting close with all of the surprises he had planned for you.Â
âAnd this is my son, Blake! Heâll be helping me up in the cockpit.â
Miguel stopped to shake his hand.Â
He was like the textbook definition of a pretty frat boy. Tall, but not OâHara tall, tan, and handsome. He smiled and showed a straight line of teeth, dimples peeking through.Â
âNice to meet you, Miguel. Kronâs really not coming?â
Whatâs with people asking about that dickhead today?
âNope. Just us and our friends. If he does come, itâs news to me.âÂ
Blake went to shake your hand and it was like he started to glow under the sun. His smile went up to his eyes and he mimicked the heartthrobs in the movies Miguelâs cousins watched growing up.Â
âAnd whoâs this?â
âMy name is-â
âMy girlfriend,â Miguel said before you could even finish.Â
You looked up at him in shock, laughing it off. âThat too, but I have a name.â You respond to Blake and shake his hand.Â
Miguel doesnât like how his eyes scan your body. It was subtle, but he caught it.Â
Even as you all finish up greetings, Blake is still making moves towards you. The type of flirting that probably flew over your head, but Miguel has been around enough guys like him to know exactly what it was.Â
âSo is this your first time on a boat?â Blake asked you while he guided you guys to your room.Â
âNo, actually. But itâs definitely my first time on a yacht, especially one this huge.â
Miguel followed behind with Dana and Gabriel.
âIs this your first time on a boat?â Miguel mocked Blake quietly, mouth scrunched up.Â
ââLa envidia esta flaca, porque muerde y no come,ââ Gabriel replied. âYouâre turning green from your neck, bro. Heâs just being nice.â (Envy is thin, because it bites and does not eat.)
âNo, heâs definitely flirting,â Dana quipped. âHeâs not even paying the rest of us any attention.â
âThank you, Dana. And Gabriel, donât ever quote a Spaniard to me again.â
âHow do you call that flirting? Heâs not even-â Gabriel paused as Blake laughed really loud at something that you said with his hand guiding you way too close on your ass. âAh shit.â
Miguel stomped towards you two, yanking Blakeâs hand off of you and replacing it with his.Â
âI think weâve got it from here. You can show those two where theyâll be staying. Thanks,â Miguel nods his head towards Dana and Gabriel with a smile that didnât reach his eyes.Â
âRight,â Blake responds to him with a blank face. âIâll see you up on the deck.â Blake winks at you before walking further.Â
âDonât kill him, Miguel,â Dana pats his shoulder as she walks by.Â
âYouâve got my permission to hurt him if he touches me one more time though,â you say, snuggling close to Miguel and patting at his chest.Â
âSo, Iâm killing him. Got it.â
GymRat!Miguel who watches you twirl around the VIP suite.Â
âMiguel! This is so beautiful! Look at the view.â
âOh my god! Thereâs a walk-in closet!â
âThereâs a bidet! Howâd they fit that and a shower in here?â
Miguel leaned on the doorway, watching you comment on every little thing.Â
You made sure to start to spray everything with Lysol, a habit from your mom when traveling.Â
While you were in the bathroom, Miguel got out one of his first gifts of the night.Â
It was another keychain to add to your collection. Heâs been working hard to have this weekend make up for the awful dinner night.Â
He placed it on the bed and started to open his bag to grab his pajamas.Â
âWhatâs this?â you ask, coming out to spray the bed.Â
âJust a little gift for you.â
âAw, this is so cute!â Your voice gets higher as you take in the little legos. âThey even look like us! When did you get these?â
âI got them made about a week ago. You like them?â
âI love them! Thank you, Miggy.â
GymRat!Miguel who wants to moan when you walk out.Â
You guys are going on a double date with Gabriel and Dana at a casual-not-so-casual restaurant farther in the city. That didnât stop you from getting all dolled up.Â
You walk to him on the bed, standing in between his legs.Â
âAmor,â Miguel said, rubbing his hands up and down your backside. âYou look amazing.â
âThank you. So do you,â you responded, careful to not run your hands through his hair. It was a comfort for you, but you didnât want to ruin it.Â
Instead, you bent down to kiss him in the quiet of the room. The sun was still out, but a lot dimmer than before. Little patches of sunlight caught Miguelâs eyes. The color was so deeply brown, you swore you saw speckles of red throughout.Â
He moved to sit you on his lap, glancing over every detail of your body.Â
âYouâre making it harder for me to want to leave.â
âItâs funny that you say that. Youâve been walking around like youâre straight out of a beach movie. Chest out and legs for days.â
Miguel blushed and put his head in your chest, bending you back and holding you so you wonât fall.Â
âWhat are you hiding for? Itâs true!â you laugh as Miguel seemed to burrow his face deeper.Â
âYeah, but you donât have to call me out.â He was just trying to impress you, per usual.Â
GymRat!Miguel who gets nervous on the way to the restaurant. It was one of those immersive experiences with projections on the plates that told stories with the meals. They were pretty cute to Miguel and he figured that all three of you guys would love it.Â
The only thing is, he pulled some strings with Tyler to add an extra animation in there. Heâs not sure how much that cost, but heâs glad he didnât have to see the price.Â
GymRat!Miguel who side-eyes Gabriel when he just about screams as the little chef walks across the animated place.Â
âHeâs so tiny!â he whisper-shouts. âSo precious!â
By the time the first course comes out Gabriel is fighting tears.Â
âControl it, Gabri,â Miguel says, rubbing his back.Â
âIâm trying. I really am.â
GymRat!Miguel whose heart blooms when you laugh at one of the scenes. The little chef is squabbling with a giant shrimp and losing the battle.Â
GymRat!Miguel whose heart speeds up when the special animation starts up.Â
Only the two of your plates are lit up. Thereâs a river of chocolate that separates the two. From Miguelâs plate, thereâs a little version of him that calls to your plate. He watches as your eyes grow when a mini you climbs on top of the plate and yells back. Your character throws him a kiss, sending a pink flutter across the river. The wave of it goes straight to mini Miguelâs heart who in turn, falls backwards dramatically.Â
The real you lets out a watery laugh at the scene, eyes looking at Miguel briefly in shock.Â
Mini Miguel jumps back up and gets to work, digging around the plate to grab biscoff cookies from the chocolate ocean to make a boat. While he works, your character wanders around the plate cutely, tidying up the area for his arrival.Â
When the boat is finished, Mini Miguel uses a giant spoon to steer the boat, singing out brightly the closer he gets to you. The mini you is jumping up and down, cheering him on just like you do in real life.Â
Once he gets to the edge of your plate, you lean close to give him a kiss. He climbs from the boat onto the plate and spins you around. You giggle in his hold until he lets you down.Â
From there, he starts to use the spoon to drag a chocolate message across the plate. He takes confident steps, spreading the brown syrup across the plate with ease.Â
âTĂș eres mi luz.â (You are my light.)
When he finishes it, you both sit at the edge of the plate, feeding each other scoops of chocolate from the giant spoon. They both look up at you to wave, the Mini Miguel cheesing extremely hard as he waves both arms.Â
The animation fades away in a wave of browns and pinks, the waiters bringing out the actual plates of food.Â
The floodgates open when youâre presented with the same chocolate message, a slice of chocolate biscoff cake, and little chocolate decorations of the mini you and Miguel.Â
âOh my god, the spoon is here too,â you say with emotion, picking up a chocolate coated spoon. âMiguel!â
You don't know what to do. You keep fanning your face in hopes to stop the tears from coming out and ruining the light makeup you had on. Dana hands you a pointed napkin and you thank her while holding your head back.Â
Gabriel is a mess, faces wet with tears. His cheeks are round as he blows out air to control his breathing.Â
âI didnât mean to make you cry, mi amor,â Miguelâs face is ridden with worry as he reaches across the table to grab your hand. He looks to Gabriel and sighs, âYou either, hermanito.â (little brother)
âIâm good. I gotta just,â Gabriel waves a hand in front of his face cutely. âJust gotta get this out. If youâll excuse me.âÂ
He gets up to shuffle to the bathroom.Â
âI better go help him out. He gets a little delirious when he cries like that,â Dana says, rubbing your shoulder as she leaves the table.Â
Miguel wastes no time to sit in Danaâs seat, taking the napkin from your hands and wiping carefully at your tears.Â
âI love you. So, so much,â you say, resting your face in his hands. âEveryday, you find new ways to surprise me. I donât know how you do it, but Iâm justâŠâ
You pause, waving your hands in the air, unable to express how you felt. Just thinking about it has the tears spilling over again.Â
âHey, hey,â Miguel chides, catching your tears again. âIf you keep crying, Iâm going to cry.â
âI canât help it, Miguel! You made a cookie boat to get to me. How can I not cry?â
Miguel reaches to kiss your cheeks in hopes to help you subside the tears, âI know, baby, I know. But to answer your first thought, when I think of you, the ideas just pour out of me. Youâre my first true love, so I donât know all the ends and outs of a relationship, but I do know what it feels like to be loved. I just want to extend that feeling to you.â
You stare in awe and the man sitting next to you, eyes glistening as you take in his words.Â
âI think I need another tissue.â
Miguel laughs as he grabs one to pat at your face again.Â
GymRat!Miguel who feeds you bites of the cake while you feed him scoops of ice cream when youâve calmed down. You canât stop smiling for the rest of the night.Â

Part 9.2 here!
a/n: This is half of the chapter, but I had so much fun writing this! (mostly because I was not doing my actual work while writing half of it), especially Gabriel's silly ass. Like, it was super duper fun. Writing jealous Miguel was also great. There's so much stuff about reader that he was unaware of and I've been imagining him sitting at a table and yelling like Kendrick when it all plays back in his mind.
As always, like, comment, and reblog. Let me know how you feel! đ©”

YOURS TRULY
pairings: dark!luke castellan x fem!reader, dark!percy jackson x fem!reader
summary: with one demi-god on your tail, you try your hardest to make your escape. but with two? theyâre both no where near willing to let you go.
warnings: obsession, possession, stalking, implied kidnapping, sexual implications
a/n: look who decided to write again!
Icons not mine, credits to the owner!
it wasnât hard for him to find you again. a given, he would track you down to the ends of tartarus as long as you wound up where you were meant to be.
by his side.
at first heâd been disappointed in himself when he fell for you. luke thought himself above that, thinking that heâd devoted himself entirely to his cause. but maybe being around so many kids for so many years caused him to soften in places unknown.
because when youâd limped into camp, collapsing in the strawberry fields and sending the the place into a tailspin, he found an eerie sense of peace with you. the words and thoughts in his heads were drowned out the second you looked up at him.
âitâs- it keeps- itâs chasing me.â his hand came down to your stomach, a lash ran across. not too deep, barely half a centimetre perhaps less. luke immediately picked up his sword in defence of you, waiting for the monster to show. meanwhile the other kids were either running for chiron and mr d or gearing up themselves.
there was no way they were missing the chance for kleos.
but the monster was already subdued, as percy walked out dragging a head along with him. âorder to go?â you couldnât help the smile that came across your face at his words. but luke didnât like it, how the hell had percy beaten him to it?
over the next few months you found yourself in between the two of them, fighting for your attention. even if it was just for a minute. during the capture the flag you found yourself rotating teams every time since apparently the other promised victory every time. but you knew if you only focused on one of them the other would be angry.
everyone else at camp found it hilarious. two of the most well known campers competing for someone who apparently couldnât care less. you just wanted to be at camp with your friends.
but what you didnât know was that they were actively working against each other.
ânice sword skills jackson, a scarecrow teach you?â luke laughed as percy sighed, âyour insults are weak castellan, so are your own skills.â luke raised his eyebrows, he was one of the best swordsman around in a long time. they both were one of few who saw the real sides to them, the jealousy and the arrogance. all because of you.
it got so intense to the point that you knew you needed to run. they were hurting eachother constantly, all for your approval, and even threatening your own siblings at times. to the point where they slowly began to distance themselves when the two were around. whether theyâre excusing themselves for the bathrooms or just blatantly upping and leaving.
âhey y/n, how are you?â your spoon froze mid air as you heard percyâs voice, a quick glance at your siblings and you could see the fear. âguys, you mind giving us a second?â all your sibling at the table were younger than you and more than happy to leave, âiâm doing fine jackson. you?â you couldnât be any shorter with him yet he always engaged himself in conversations with you. even when you were clearly uninterested.
âiâm doing amazing, now that iâm talking to you.â you flashed him a smile before getting up with your tray, âthatâs nice, iâll see you around.â
percy watched as you walked away, until he heard the voice he dreaded. âleft alone are we?â luke joked whilst sitting down in the spot youâd occupied not too long ago. âshut up. she barely talks to you.â luke smiled, âwell, when sheâs with me we donât do a lot of talking.â if looks could kill, luke would be a goner. âstop it.â
âbet i could catch her before you.â
âyouâre slower than me letâs be realistic jackson.ââ
âyou wanna bet?â
and thatâs exactly how you ended up here, knee-deep in the creek with either boy on each side of you. âwill you just leave me alone? what is wrong with you!â lukeâs face was cold, his grip on his sword was more than enough to make your heart race. âjust come out and let me talk to you.â you furrowed your eyebrows in confusion at percyâs words, âwhy would i? it looks like you wanna kill me!â
âno!â lukeâs shouting caused you to stumble back, âi meanâ i would never hurt you.â he took a step forwards as you pointed your spear, âstay back!â unfortunately, youâd been so busy fending off luke youâd forgotten about percy to your left. you screamed at the top of your lungs when his arms came around you.
âhey, quit it.â luke whispered as his hand came over your mouth. âi donât want to hurt you.â youâd be damned if you went quietly, so you shook and writhed. trying your hardest to get away, and luke had a short temper when it came to you. his sword came across your head, knocking you out cold. âwhat the hell!â percy yelled as you went limp in his arms. âsheâll be fine, now letâs get going.â
as they walked with you, either one couldnât help but think, when theyâd get rid of the other.

Odysseus always trusted Penelope. He was ordered to lie to her and it hurt him to do so. Penelope was distrustful of this stranger until she had absolute solid proof.
There are way too many people talking about how "Odysseus lies to Penelope. What a prick!" and it makes me sad/mad as that's not the case at all
The whole "Odysseus usually always has a reason to lie" maybe upcoming essay aside, He was literally commanded by Athena to not tell anyone. And it was with Penelope that he had the hardest time keeping up the act with. Not only because she's smart af and figured him out almost immediately (that essay coming soon too) but because he was trying to keep himself from crying with her.
I think people forget that he is disguised to look like someone else completely. If a random man claimed to be your missing husband, wouldn't you be scared/freaked out?
Anyways, the 3 most important people in his life are Penelope, Telemachus, and Laertes. He lies to all three.
Telemachus: Lied by letting Eumaeus answer him and still under the orders from Athena, did not cry or reveal himself until Athena allowed him to. (I read it as him being in shock. Last time he saw him, Telemachus' hand could only wrap around one finger and now he's as big as him. a bit shocking to say the least)
Laertes: He teared up seeing him but still decided to question and test his father, not by the order from Athena.
Penelope: He was trying so hard to keep from crying, tried to noodle his way out of lying to her, Under Athena's orders. still couldn't help but basically flirt with her.
Also to get this outta the way: No, it wasn't a matter of trust. He is shown to trust her right away. As this happens even before he gets the chance to speak with Penelope.
Staunch Odysseus glowed with joy to hear all thisâ his wife's trickery luring gifts from her suitors now, enchanting their hearts with suave seductive words but all the while with something else in mind.
(Book 18, Fagles)
If Odysseus does not trust her, why is he so happy to see her "flirt" with the suitors? It's because he KNOWS what she's doing and knows she doesn't actually want them. If he didn't trust her, he would be upset by this.
Now for the "it hurt to lie to her" bit.
Athena's command:
"Tell not a single person in the palace, man or woman, that you are back from your wanderings; but endure all vexations in silence and submit yourself to the indignities that will be put upon you.'
(Book 13, Rieu)
If you are my sonâtruly of our bloodâ                                           let no one hear Odysseus is back home. Donât let Laertes know or the swineherd, or the slaves, or Penelope herself.
(Book 16, Johnston)
And the people he did reveal himself to, he only did so after being given permission by Athena.
Athene spoke to him. 'The time has come,' she said, 'royal son of Laertes, Odysseus of the nimble wits, to let Telemachus into your secret, so that the pair of you may plot the downfall and death of the Suitors and then make your way to the famous city. [...]
(Book 15, Rieu)
He talks to Telemachus before talking to Penelope.
Iâll stay here, so I can stir the servants even moreâ and your mother. As she laments, sheâll ask for each and every detail.â
(Book 19, Johnston)
Odysseus is already sweating about having to lie to her
The next part would honestly be me just inserting almost ALL the text for this so I'll go into a summary. It's all in Book 19.
Penelope asks him where he's from. And instead of answering, it's a tsunami of compliments. Calling her flawless. Comparing her to a king. etc, etc,
Probably because he couldn't help himself and had to babble about how wonderful she is Who wouldn't? before finally ending with "Please don't ask me where I'm from. It makes me sad."
Penelope, probably overwhelmed by his praise, immediately goes into how "her beauty left with her husband. It did not. And where did you say you were from again?"
"Fine! I'm from Crete..."
And we all know that as soon as she starts crying, after a lovely description of how her tears "melted", he talks about how hard it was for Odysseus to hold in his OWN tears. Lying to her and being unable to comfort her was painful for him!!!
But though Odysseus' heart was wrung by his wife's distress, his eyes, hard as horn or iron, never wavered between their lids, so craftily did he repress his tears.
(Book 19, Rieu)
I love Robert Fitzgerald's translation so as a treat:
[...] so her white cheeks were wetted by these tears shed for her lord--and he close by her side. Imagine how his heart ached for his lady, his wife in tears; and yet he never blinked; his eyes might have been made of horn or iron for all that she could see. He had this trick-- wept, if he willed to, inwardly.
(Book 19, Fitzgerald)
Even with him revealing himself to Euryclea, when she cried out to Penelope, Athena made sure she didn't hear! It's most likely that he wouldn't be able to tell her even if he wanted. Athena was planning something, just as Penelope was.
She spoke, and her eyes glanced over at Penelope, anxious to tell her that her husband had come home. But Penelope could not see her face or notice, for Athena had diverted her attention.
(Book 19, Johnston)
He desperately wanted to be with her again. Literally daydreaming about it!
At those words Dawn rose on her golden throne in a sudden gleam of light. And great Odysseus caught the sound of his wifeâs cry and began to daydreamâdeep in his heart it seemed she stood beside him, knew him, now, at last âŠ
(book 20, Fagles)
Clearly doesn't trust her. /sarcasm
It's PENELOPE that has trouble trusting him. And rightfully so! While she was very certain that was her husband, there was so much going on and of course, she's cautious! He looked like an elderly stranger at first, why is he hiding from her? He somehow took out all those men with only a little help, Athena isn't telling her anything, Helen was kidnapped and she did not want that to possibly happen to her too, etc.
He even understands her cautiousness to be reasonable.
As she spoke, lord Odysseus, who had borne so much, smiled and immediately spoke to Telemachusâ his words had wings:  âTelemachus, let your mother test me in these halls. She will soon possess more certain knowledge. Right now Iâm filthy, with disgusting clothing on my body. Thatâs why she rejects me and will not say I am Odysseus. [...]
(Book 23, Johnston)
He even trusted her completely to take care of everything while he was gone before. And he does again when he wakes up and goes to see his father. Telling her about how she too wise to need instruction
Odysseus (and Penelope as well) is well-known for his cunning tricks and how his loyalties are often blurred but one thing that is for sure about him is that he trusts and is loyal to Penelope full-heartedly. He spent every day missing her and their son and wanting to go home to her. The only moment we see his trust in her waver is during the Treebed scene, (which is what she wanted to test).
They are "like-minded". đ
