#it was based on a real event with a girl from cvs

I just want to say the sexuality line of your bio? the tension element? 10/10 improved my night
It resonates w a lot of queer people specifically, and tbh I think its because when we are young, we have a stronger wanting of finding someone around our age when we are lonely. When you pair that with the queer signals coming from that cashier, you find a wanting that you cannot find much else other than another store with another worker just starting their life out like you.
But you are both locked in a social contract, this is a business transaction, and its not considered friendly or sexy to hit on someone uninvited in this social contract. So you hold your feelings inside like you have before and will again, and instead you two admire each other, taking in all the symbols you see.
And theres a feeling that they want you too, but you do not want to risk breaking that illusion by asking anyway. Its best to keep that shared feeling, and hope you come together for another reason on another night. So you leave, coffee, snacks, gas and all.
#revisiting the idea gave me a sharp boost of inspiration#it was based on a real event with a girl from cvs#it was raining - and she had a hatchetman tattoo behind her ear#she asked me if Id ever seen a 2 dollar bill before#i said yes but not in a long while#she said it was my lucky day and gave it to me and winked at me#and I never saw her again#i was a stunned butch lesbian and she was a phantom

are you staying home from work/school?
yes! i actually lost my job recently bc of cv lmaoo but all’s good i’m taking it as a break from my usual Hectic Life Schedule :)
if you’re staying home, who is there with you?
my entire family! my parents are working from home and my sister is doing home-based learning
are you a homebody?
tbh i’m kind of an in-between; i like to hang out with my friends but this season has given me an excuse to decline invitations to go out, which has been a huge relief. i do miss physically being with my closest friends though.
an event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled?
spending my birthday with my best friend :( we’ve been spending our birthdays together for the past few years and it’s a real bummer that we can’t go do something fun this year. we’re still gonna skype though, so it’ll still be fun!
what movies have you watched recently?

what are you reading?
i just finished girl, interrupted a few days ago, and am planning to start reading how to make friends with the dark
what are you doing for self-care?
ehhh idk if this counts as self-care but i stopped pressurizing myself to reply texts immediately, and i fully immerse myself in my solitude whenever i want to. also, lazing around and taking naps
stay safe and take care of yourselves during this szn, i love you all!!!

devolve around the world
there are some things in life that are inevitable. for instance, if you live in la long enough, sooner or later one or more of the following are going to happen:
someone you know will die from a curable disease because they insisted on trying to cure it by only using CBD!
you’ll see an ex (who literally never knew you were dating) on a date with someone else and have to pretend like that doesn’t make you want to spit on a dog.
your favorite type of milk will be deemed a carcinogen.
you will be cancelled.
and then there are things you thought would happen to you if you moved to la because you once read a buzzfeed article on things that happen in la (that luckily - despite risk - can be avoided):
adopting a dog so as to promulgate the message “adopt don’t shop” because you care about animals, and/or the idea of owning something that could be described as “bedraggled”.
purchasing a fancy dog from a breeder because you are rich, and impervious to the contempt that you and your show puppy will likely be met with.
getting a nose job because you have a “deviated septum”. (i have a 70% deviated septum and no nose job… WE EXIST!)
falsely developing a food allergy as a means to lose weight, fit in, inadvertently ruin every dining experience for the rest of time.
joining a cult disguised as a fun place of worship based loosely around a religion you’re familiar with.
i have lived in los angeles for three years and have successfully avoided participating in any of the aforementioned “LA!” things. i had always assumed i would continue living life with agency, avoiding things that were anathema to me for the rest of my life, but then something happened. last month, i went to coachella.
coachella is a music festival you might know of if you are alive and know of things that are annoying.
before attending this entropic weekend, i just imagined it as an outdoor forum for people to exhibit their vast collection of beige, fringed clothing in what you might call a *real life “shop this look” you want to unsubscribe from*.
but, it was so much more.
it was tens of thousands of people working towards a collective goal of becoming one giant, constantly rejuvenating cliche.
it was your best friend’s ex, the ghost of every girl you’ve ever seen in a bathroom at 3am, the son of that woman who’s always shouting on the app “next door” about something exactly zero people besides her give a fuck about, people you’ve seen on instagram and wondered ‘where do these people hang out’ and shuddered with gratitude realizing you’d never be in a room with them ever in your life unless you got lost and for some reason ended up at a meet and greet for one of those problematic youtube people…
it was all different types of people unified exclusively by their unique ability to exist only in a drunken coke haze.
and then there was me.
being in public socially is one of the most unnatural things for me - i’d be much more at ease drowning, for instance, or trapped inside a tabernacle - but i was obligated to attend for reasons that aren’t an interesting part of the narrative.
off top, coachella combines two of my most hated and feared things: fun, and men with verified instagram accounts. in addition, as someone who doesn’t really GET music, and whose anxiety barely allows her to hang out with the two people in her life who still afford her the privilege of calling them a friend, this, of course, was a catastrophic 72 hours for little binx.
things kicked off as you might expect - with a man spitting water out of his mouth onto my face with zero provocation (and less than zero repercussion!) while i stood awkwardly at the entrance of this thing - and then devolved from there… culminating in me walking 5 miles to a “nearby” CVS to get an uber at 11pm because the idea of that was somehow more compelling than spending even two more minutes inside that gated night terror.
i don’t understand the equation for fun; the math doesn’t compute for me - and while i assume it’s remedial because i routinely see the cast of jersey shore continuing to enjoy themselves, i cannot crack the code.
after i swiped my wristband nine hundred and sixty five times and got to the area designated VIP, i tried to have fun. i smiled dumbly into space in case someone i knew could see me, or in case i was in the back of a famous dog’s instagram story. i moved the lower half of my body v subtly so as to imitate dancing. i did my best to pretend that the sensory overload - from instruments smashing to make sounds amplified by millions (??) of speakers, the aroma of axe body spray and that perfume shaped like an apple, juul vapor, and the cacophony of clanking bangles, body chains and human beings yelling “yaas” - was not attacking my sensibilities in an irreparable way.
after 9 minutes, i was ready to go. of course, as i was not alone, and this was not an event i could just leave by myself without saying goodbye - like, say, my cousin’s wedding, or 30 seconds into any dinner party i’ve ever been at where someone was funnier or more interesting than me - i had to continue to feign appreciation for this $2000 string on my wrist by doing more smiling and swaying.
more music i don’t care about, more spray tan fumes, more photos to convey the hashtag “blessed”… and then finally it was time to leave.
but first i had to run into someone who had friend zoned me mere weeks prior to this.
and by “run in”, i of course mean that i saw this person, *absolutely singlehandedly* made a point to go out of my way to approach him, and then harassed him for a disturbing amount of time about something i already knew the answer to!!
i am a symphony only a dog whistle can orchestrate.
anyway, great… only six hundred twenty more swipes of this hand noose and i would be free.
but no, not so fast, because once we’d swiped our wrist bolo ties enough times that it felt like we’d given dozens of ghosts hand jobs, i looked up and realized we were no longer within the confines of that delusion jamboree, but we were standing on the concrete flanked by a committee of some of the most unhelpful people i’ve ever come across outside of the people who let you into the TSA lines at the airport.
and on one hand - we escaped! - on the other - no no no.
and so began our long day’s journey into night, brilliantly erasing the horrors of coachella and replacing them with a cursed 110 minute tour of indio’s main through street.
when we got into our uber a fortnight later, an ariana grande song i had heard for the first time (and subsequently 50 times thereafter) came on and as i looked at my phone, realizing that it would take another 45 minutes to get home, i was like “ooh. this is fun.”

So March through July has been most interesting lately -
So, in short, we are going to call these Arcs (like story arcs). There are five of them right now.
Facts to remember about this person; she’s bisexual, into open relationships, looking for fwb, is on the spectrum, had depression and social anxiety - which is why she smokes.
So I met a coworker who I got along with in march. I thought she was really cool and knowledge, however, I had a strange intuition that something was off with her at the same time. So before all that, I tried inviting her out to some events - concerts and stuff. Cause I thought she was legit cool and whatnot. She says no to this and eventually, in late April she invites me out to see Avengers: endgame; she does so because she works Fridays and Saturdays, and her friends are busy on those holidays. So I pick up, okay, so im just 2nd pick for this event? So I let it go and I buy our tickets and set the date and time. She cant do it because she is a tech and im just PRS. ( i just answer phones).
1st Arc
So on the movie day, I meet her at her place. her place is very lacklustre, she lives in a one-bedroom with no furniture - which is fine. Her roommate lives in the living room with an airbed. It’s all fine to me, I know the struggle is real. She’s nice enough to offer me coffee and scrambled eggs. I take just the coffee. She goes on a smoke break in her room, she's nice enough to close the door for her roommate. I sit on the roommate's bed and how she gets off it is odd as fuck; she kind casually brushes her hands along her arm and wrist before asking me to stand up, and it takes her a while to get up and go. Because shes trying to decide what coat she wants to wear. So finally go off, get a ride up to the mall centre in german town. She starts talking about her stories and stuff - and about one time post-banging some freshmen on her sophomore year. I was thinking okay that’s good on you lol. Now the worst part is she starts leaning her head on me afterwards through the whole ride. We get to the movies afterwards, and there two seats left because her dumbass wanted to take her time getting here. So one guy pointed us to two seats left in the crowd. The theatre was packed so what she did was cling to my arm and lean to my shoulder- again. So after the movies, we go to chipotle, and then to the beer & spirits which I pay. Because her ID is expired, how the fuck do you let your Id expire? so I have to get it. We order a lyft head back and drink at her place and play some games. We both had a good time but I left once I saw the roommate had teased her about being autistic and etc. The shoulder leaning thing had me confused - she told me im an associate.
So I bring up the issue with the shoulder leaning issue. So apparent none of that mattered. I got on her about how people can misinterpret that and she said few to interpret that. She gets upset because I bring this issue to mind like a few days. However, she mentioned one time a guy assumed she leads her on. Again she makes it clear we are associates the whole time.
2nd Arc
Next week May 5th we scheduled to watch the game of thrones at her place. I get off at 10:30 pm on a Sunday, and she doesn't work on a Sunday. I had to buy beer again - because so she meets me at my job. it was quite odd because her excuse for coming was “she was in town and though to drop by”. Nothing wrong with that but it did lead to some speculation. My coworker Gloria kept up asking questions like “Oh did you say hi to her?” “She usually doesn't wear dresses, Kelvin, what do you think?”, “ She doesn't work today here” so yeah it was hinting she knew something. Now after my shift we went to CVS and she offered to buy me snacks and food. She asks if I was sure? Now on this day, I had a sausage, cheese & egg. So I went to her place we had to go into her room since her roommate was sleeping. So she offered popeyes which I took only a wing. I sat by her bed rather than on it because - it felt weird lol. She said I could join her bed rather than sit by it - we are coworkers bruh. She leaves out too. So after smashing like 8- 9 beers I get on her bed because my knees were killing me on that hardwood floor. She comes back like “ It’s about time” so after a while she starts to lean on me again. So the beer takes its toll - and I start to nod off. So while watching Game of Thrones she would ask some questions. So around season 5 she stops it there - tells me to get my things. Escorts me out to the door of her complex. The original plan actually to use a spare bed but she apparently didn't want to do that. So she escorts me outside 4:00 am in the morning, it's cold as fuck in may. She couldn't stay out because is only clothed in a skimpy sundress and she's anaemic and plus she left her house keys in her house. So understandable but still no check-in. Which contradicts with her usually thing because she would always see if I got home. I got home around 6 am had like only 4 hours of sleep and had to go to work lol- I had a slight headache but I was good. I texted her to see if she was okay, said she was fine and that I was doing too much. I just added that hey you were right that I should have eaten something. Now this issue sparks something on her end, this literally causes her to snap off and she literally bans me from coming to her house.
After dropping her shoes off that she sent to my location because she lives in an apartment complex. we go to the gym together because of her social anxiety, now the fun part is after the gym. I found out apparently I had spilt beer on her carpet and pissed over her toilet while drunk, to be fair her bathroom is really dark. The only light is a night light behind you when you use the toilet. She had an emotional connection with that carpet so I sympathized with it and made to right my wrongs. So she asked only for three meals and me to go to the gym with her for a week. I decided a month because I felt bad about the situation. we agreed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are my days off.
3rd Arc
So off to the gym, some days she goes - some she doesn't - but either way I got continuously. Knowing discipline is necessary for progress. But usually, she is very inconsistent. So one week on Saturday she isn't going- rather than going I just leave it be. She's being too indecisive about the matter. I tell her to just tell me when she would be going and went home. So Tuesday comes up and she comes to work. She follows her usual routine; what's for lunch and etc? she comes up to check up on me and etc. But I wait until her shift after 12:30, now after that - my coworker comes up to ask “” Arent you going to the gym”. her reply, however, was “ No, I didn't do any laundry today. So I don't have any clean clothes to go with” That would’ve been news to tell me. So she leaves without telling me the matter - and leaves me hanging there. Wednesday and Thursday im off, and not once did it cross her mind. To make amends, so I actually have to reach out and confront her on the issues. She owned up to it but said her new meds for her depression. I understood in that second but for that whole three days? I felt that was really considerate tbh. I stopped doing favours because that was massive and just focused on me tbh. That was a huge disrespect to me and my time. So around June, I brought up the issue again to make sure we were clear and realised I had backtracked on it based on her logic on of the issue.
4th Arc
After a while, I agreed to invite her out to the movies. Went to see spider-man: Far away from home, I bought the tickets. We went over the seats and I set the time. So on the fourth, I reach the train station to meet her around 10:00 am, the movie starts at 12:45. She literally tells me to meet her at the theatre though we agreed to the train station, because of its fucking raining. Now the forecast said it would rain - but she chose to dress for the heat tbh. So I let it go and get a ride to the theatre and get there. We are early like its 11:45 pm so we decide to go to Starbucks. So she pulls me aside and asks if she can send lingerie and stuff to my house somewhat nervously (think of a typical anime girl who is fidgetting her fingers nervously) - because it's for when she goes to the gym. Still, quite an odd favour but i accept it. So after the movies, it starts to rain, so I got to CVS and buy an umbrella. Because she's wearing a sundress and if she got any wetter it is porn show. So off we go to across town to the Vape shop because the vape she has, has been burning her throat. So at the shop, the lady shows us how it works and after that she needs ID. She doesn't have ID....still so I had to literally use my ID. After a while, we go eat, and meet her roommate at the firework place. She arm links up with him and tries to get me to join - I literally shoot her down like “Nah im good”. So the roommate introduces us to his friends at her house - and off we go to park. Im literally lacking behind and she comes and checks up behind me multiple times. I state that im okay until we get to the park. Now at the park it's fine until it starts to rain, being the only practical person with common sense - hold up a single umbrella for five people. After 20 minutes of holding this damn thing up, I pass it off before she starts asking me if I want to watch Netflix. I say no, and then I went on my phone to text my friend for a while. Again she asks it before not too long she is leaning my whole thigh with the phone on it. Like you would with a couch armchair. This was no way platonic. After she leaning back on my chest with her back while we watch Netflix and stuff. Im like....you have your roommate there fam why not do this with him lol. After the fireworks, we leave but the large crowds cause her anxiety; she clings to my arm and literally is like “sorry for invading her personal space” ... it's a little too late for all that :T. We head to safeway , use the bathroom and head home.
5th Arc
We were supposed to go to Otakon together - because she invited me out to the invite. So I told Mike, a coworker of mine, I and she are supposed to be going. The whole week is excited about Otakon and stuff - and Saturday tells me “whenever she gets up she’ll let me know when she goes down to the convention centre”. I’m like.... what kind of rude shit is that? but I let it be it is what it is. So Friday comes up I call mike, he is down there and I meet him there. He tells me to call her to figure where she is - because she told him she’d be here 3-4. I called her and phone rings twice before going to voicemail. So she tells me “Oh im just got sick. Just my luck!” now I know this feels like bullshit really. You were super excited about this event - and Mike told me she looked healthy yesterday - again not making any sense really. So rather than just telling me you aren't going to show up at all. And she scheduled this event the whole time tbh.

Seiyuu Challenge: Bonus Rounds
This is inspired by the seiyuu challenge I saw @rukiinightray doing on their Tumblr. Check out the #Seiyuu Challenge tag on their Tumblr to see the questions.
I just picked my favourites from Rukii’s to add to the compilation. After this, I will be posting the masterpost for my fully answered 30 Day challenge (it’s a separate one) including this bonus round!
Bonus Rounds Include:
Favourite Seiyuu above 40 Years Old
Favourite Singing Unit/Group
Seiyuu with Cute Voices
Seiyuu with Attractive Voices
Seiyuu with the Best Smiles :D
Bonus Round #1: Favourite Seiyuu Above 40 Years Old
Hiroshi Kamiya (pretty much 44)
Akira Ishida (51)
Romi Park (46)
Good luck finding current female seiyuu that still get hired above age 40 without having “legendary” status. Hahaha... why is the industry like this.
Tomokazu Sugita, Nana Mizuki, and Yuuichi Nakamura are all 39. I just wanted to mention that.
The gifs are just the most iconic character for them (although I had a tough time choosing)
Bonus Round #2: Best Singing Unit/Group
I’ll be honest, I don’t listen to units often, but I do come across the occasional song, so I’ll be sharing a few of those! I’d say that the three following groups are the only ones that I’ve actually listened to on their own.
The original question was the best 2.5D and 3D group, but I didn’t know exactly what those meant. I’m guessing 2.5D means there are anime characters played by seiyuu who also perform live like Utapri whereas 3D have real people performing and not as characters.
I’ve been listening to Yoshimasa Hosoya and Toshiki Masuda's Maxboys, but they’ve disbanded. I personally think this was due to bad timing, lack of variety and risk, and Masuda being a little less experienced on vocals. (if you can see the thumbnail of the video) *passes towel*
youtube
I did listen to a few TrySail things, but often, female units to me sound a bit too high-pitched and cutesy. I had the same problem when listening to a few K-Pop songs, but hey, I now know a song or two from Girls’ Generation and Twice (who the heck wouldn’t know those groups?) The members of TrySail include Momo Asakura (pink), Sora Amamiya (blue), and Shiina Natsukawa (yellow).
Alternative: Adrenaline - Eromanga-Sensei ED
youtube
But my top pick would probably be Sphere. Sphere was one of the first groups that caught my eye which was only got noticed because they sang a Honeyworks song. With members like Haruka Tomatsu, Ayahi Takagaki, Minako Kotobuki, and Aki Toyosaki, they are a bit older than their TrySail counterpart (TrySail members are 22-24ish while Sphere members are late-20s to early-30s). All of this group’s members are listed as actresses and voice actresses as well as singers. Yeah, so they voice act in various anime (each having their own list of shows), occasionally live-action act and make appearances, and sing and practice dancing. In fact, Ayahi Takagaki is one of the few women to appear on Kenichi Suzumura’s AD-LIVE event, and she went twice. I knew each of these members individually for their voice acting first, but they can also go solo (and they do) for their music, but as far as I’m concerned, Sphere is still on hiatus.
Alternative: Here are their top tracks. I couldn’t choose. (I could’ve added a lot more than 15 tracks)
youtube
I’d also like to mention that there is a top 20 list for male units (not mine) [source]
1 – ELEKITER ROUND 0 2 – E.M.U 3 – ST☆RISH 4 – QUARTET★NIGHT 5 – HE★VENS 6 – D.A.T 7 – 神谷浩史+小野大輔 8 – フェロ☆メン 9 – Marginal#4 10 – CELL DIVISION 11 - G.Addict 12 - Maxboys 13 - KAmiYU 14 - Trignal 15 - CONNECT 16 - X.I.P 17 - STYLE FIVE 18 - Stella Quintet 19 - R-16 20 - アニ○ズ
This is purely opinion-based obviously, and since I don’t listen to most of these groups (I’ve heard of them), I trust these people’s word. I just don’t like Hiroshi Kamiya’s singing, and I know I will be kicked in the shins again for saying that. Some of these groups are old too so you can see them with funny hairdos. Seriously, Sakurai had a mad mop on his head. I wonder if it was real.
I’d also like to give a quick shoutout to the Honeyworks seiyuu because even if that’s not a “unit”, they still sing a lot of songs from them.
Natsuki Enomoto (CV: Haruka Tomatsu) - song
Yuu Setoguchi (CV: Hiroshi Kamiya) - song
Akari Hayasaka (CV: Kana Asumi) - song
Souta Mochizuki (CV: Yuuki Kaji) - song
Miou Aida (CV: Aki Toyosaki) - song
Haruki Serizawa (CV: Kenichi Suzumura) - song
Saku Akechi (CV: Hikaru Midorikawa) - song
Koyuki Ayase (CV: Tsubasa Yonaga) - song
Hina Setoguchi (CV: Momo Asakura) - song
Kotarou Enomoto (CV: Natsuki Hanae) - song
Sena Narumi (CV: Sora Amamiya) - song
Midori Hamanaka (CV: Gero) - song
Arisa Takamizawa (CV: Nao Touyama) - song
Ken Shibazaki (CV: Yoshimasa Hosoya) - HOW IS HE THE ONLY ONE THERE ISN’T A SONG FOR (or one that I can’t seem to access???)
There’s also Nobunaga Shimazaki and Kouki Uchiyama in LIP x LIP. [Song Recommendations] [Newest Song]
Honestly, I can make more than one post about them. Stay tuned for that! I’m going to make all my song recommendations and explain this whole universe.
Bonus Round #3: Seiyuu with Cute Voices
Kana Hanazawa
Sora Amamiya
Maaya Sakamoto
Saori Hayami
Ai Kayano
Sumire Morohoshi
Maaya Uchida
Nobuhiko Okamoto
Yoshimasa Hosoya
Yuuki Kaji
These don’t even need explanation. If you’ve heard them, you know exactly what I mean.
Bonus Round #4: Seiyuu with Attractive Voices
Mitsuki Saiga
Megumi Ogata
Hikaru Midorikawa
Kazuhiko Inoue
Akira Ishida
Takahiro Sakurai
Junichi Suwabe
Yuuichi Nakamura
Yuuichirou Umehara
Kouki Uchiyama
Ryouhei Kimura
Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
Yoshimasa Hosoya
Mamoru Miyano
Toshiyuki Morikawa
Shizuka Itou
Eri Kitamura
Kikuko Inoue
Miyuki Sawashiro
Kana Hanazawa
Saori Hayami
Aki Toyosaki
Haruka Tomatsu
Asami Seto
I probably missed a ton, but this is such an open-ended category.
Bonus Round #5: Seiyuu with the Best Smiles :D
Kouki Uchiyama He doesn’t smile too often, but apparently, he smiles when misfortune happens to others. I sympathize. Why do you think fail videos can be funny sometimes?
Miyuki Sawashiro
Mamoru Miyano
Tomokazu Sugita
Nobuhiko Okamoto
Yoshimasa Hosoya
Saori Hayami
I feel like I had to put that tadbit for Kouki because he’s such an odd choice. The other ones are quite obvious. There are certain smiles that just make you smile, and that’s my list.

Exactly a year ago and probably until now, I never thought that I would see you the way I see you today. We surely didn’t experience “love at the first sight”, we barely speak, hangouts together, except when you greet me at the Church on Sunday, except when you ask me to come to youth fellowship, except when you try to approach me to be more involved in the youth activities. Yes, until now sometimes I regret that I blow all those chances to get to know you back then.
It was on the beginning of 2018 when I decided to come to youth fellowship more often. It was not because of you of course but I guess it was the moment when our story begins. Last night you asked me what have been changed in this past year, here is my answer in a long-complicated-kind of romantic way (well if it’s not, at least I tried ok?) 🙂
On March 2018 (approximately, based on Instagram) this youth fellowship had an outbound event. We were in the same group, what a coincidence right? But I see you as Wilem the Ketua PKMB and an older guy who lead this group. I reminisce that moment and realized how we were so close yet so far. (yea u kno why.)
Later on, you asked me to join as pengurus in this certain organization, popularly known as PKMB (so I won’t mention youth fellowship again) and I was like “Wow this is so exciting!” (re: No. I just want to impress you) so I replied you accordingly by saying yes. Did you doubt me at that moment? Maybe. Because as I remembered, it didn’t take hours to reply you like I always did. Anyway thank you for trusting me, because due to our lack of convo, it was the right decision to not to trust me on such a big responsibility because you know me like zero, but I guess my CV was credible enough for you.
At that moment, our convo and our meetings are increased as we should prepare for fellowship event every week and others PKMB activity. One of our convo probably was like:
“De dea. Minggu ini jadi pj bisa nda?” or “De dea. Minggu ini jadi pj gantiin Angel bisa nda?”
10 hours later, after 9 hours saw that chat from the pop-up notification.
“Sorry baru bales Mas. Aku bisa.”
Dea loves being on time (and Wilem too) but instead at the meeting for arrange schedule and PIC for PKMB, I admit that I avoided for being on time because I was too shy and too awkward to have a convo with only Wilem 😊 [DEA’S TOP SECRET] I didn’t know why I acted that way when it comes to seeing you. I always got insecure every time you questioned me because Wilem always has questions about anything, every time, everywhere.
After that, nothing is special. We followed the routine as pengurus, when without you knowing, I secretly observe, notice and pay attention to you. I came up with this conclusion that you are a truly nice and caring person who took care everything and anybody, from that moment I started to take more responsibility to lighten up your burden to run PKMB. I became a “Yes-girl” ((noun) a girl who says yes when someone ask her for a help).
On September PKMB had this fellowship trip event. Prior to that event we should prepare a place. First we went to Emalta, at that time again I was too shy and too awkward to let you pick me up. Hehe. Hehe. So I took Pandu with me. [ANOTHER DEA’S TOP SECRET] I think you realized that I probably have been repeating this “too shy and too awkward to let you pick me up” thing for many times.
“Padahal rumah mu kan juga di Jalan Kaliurang De.” Just. Don’t. Ask.
SO. Fellowship trip event.
“Wilem sama Dea aja. Kan pas tuh bonceng-boncengan.”
I finally let you drove me to the beach. Thank you. Thank you for making those 4 hours round trip became not-so-awkward and for listening to my story. I admit that I’ve been prepared being asked for many questions by you hahahaha. That was the first time I sat on the backseat of the motorbike that you drive and no of course I didn’t hug you from behind. I held on the backseat of the motorbike, which if I do that now you’ll be pissed 🙂
“Kayak sama tukang ojek aja”.
But in fact you are my mas ojek, right? Because you drive me crazy everyday 😊😊😊
Thank God I didn’t fell down because “De kita agak ngebut gakpapa ya.” You were such a gentleman for ask those permission!
That was such a new experience for me, because I’ve been too independent back then, that I won’t let anyone (preferably boys) to drive me wkwkwk. It was fun though, riding a motorbike with you, talking about my wishes and future. Now I realize it soothed my thoughts and brain and burden as a final year student struggling on finishing my thesis. You reminded me to be relax for once.
“Kayaknya bisa diprospek nih”, was it something in your mind when you decided to make your move towards me? Because if I’m not mistaken, everything was started at that time after the beach.
My thesis defense, you were there, with your fav tee and those scary beard.
“Temen kamu tuh kayak Alex Abad De”
We took a picture, the first picture ever taken together!
After my thesis defense, texting had become our routine, every day, that one day I felt weird when you didn’t text me. Maybe that was the time when I feel that I need you more than just before.
“Eh De. Clean or with beard?”
What should I answer mas? WKWKWK I was too polite to say I don’t quite like your beard that way, but in other thought, I remembered I used to go crazy with boys with beard (re: fan girl-ing). You should google Paul DiGiovanni, Martin Johnson, Alex Gaskarth and Jack Barakat. (waktu dan tempat dipersilakan).
“With beard is okay, asalkan rapi”.
I honestly don’t know what were you headed to that time, but all I know was you are such a nice person and I could be wrong if I have this certain feeling towards you. But at the same time I enjoyed every moment with you. I think you have broken my wall.
It was dawn, 4 a.m maybe when you suddenly asked me to video-call me.
Deg-degan tau gak sih. Telponan nggak pernah, eh ini video call!!!!!!
“De, mau nggak lebih dari temen?” (Wilem gengsi mode)
“Wait. What? so this is real?” that was me inside my head, but what you saw was Dea kaget dan melotot. I felt relieved “Okay Dea, it is safe for you now. But don’t be easy.”
Hahahaha okay so later on, for about 2 or 3 weeks we let everybody wonder what was going on between us, until it become so awkward.
“Jadi aku kalo ditanya harus jawab apa?”
“Terserah.”
Long story short, at the midnight of 10 November 2019
“Jadi sekarang pacaran nih”
“Iya dong.”
Something moved me to have a commitment with you.
The beginning of our relationship was hard. You didn’t have my mom’s blessing, we were about to face long distance relationship, I was shadowed by my past then it threatens you, I was having a transition where I become “tidak terlalu ekspresif dalam pacaran”, you were so so SO gengsian, and all those tiny, small, big, huge, giant rocks on our relationship, but look? We survived a goddamn year 🤗💖
You are exactly the person I need after suffered for couples of breakup, you are the best, the most mature, the gentlest, the most kind hearted one (cry).
I was SO HAPPY when you moved to Jakarta. I never know how my life in Jabodetabek without you. I will still alive, ok? Hahah but with you, it is much better because I am complete.
We are the better person now, and will be even better person for each other every day. Such a simple sentence but it is enough to express how grateful I am and describe what’s been change in this past year.
I love you, mas. You already knew it. Happy anniversary, hope this enough to appreciate yesterday’s effort. You are the best boyfriend ever 😭💖

50 Thoughtful Last Minute Christmas Gifts For Procrastinators
January Nelson Updated December 11, 2018
If you still haven’t finished your holiday shopping, you should think about buying these last-minute gifts suggested by Ask Reddit.
1. Mason jar + equal parts granulated sugar and veg oil + either a few drops of essential oil OR some lemon zest OR vanilla extract = boutique grade body scrub.
2. Buy tickets online for a upcoming play, dinner & show, concert, game, etc. Print out page of ticket confirmation and put it in a nice Christmas card envelope. It’s an awesome gift because people tend to love it more than clothing or other junk you usually give. And if you’re parents are like mine, they barely take the initiative to go to these type of events themselves or don’t even know about them. Experience > material goods.
3. Run to the grocery store, pick up chocolate morsels, butter, and cream.
Takes about five hours to make 200 chocolate truffles. Easy to make them different flavors as well. (Orange, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and Cinnamon Honey are the good with milk chocolate. Peppermint, Khalua, and Matcha are good with dark chocolate. Peppermint and matcha are fantastic with white chocolate.)
4. At least for men, my go-to is always a beard or personal grooming kit. It’s likely something that they wouldn’t buy themselves, and many haven’t felt the exhilaration of a peppermint shampoo. Men deserve a little pampering and self care too!
5. I think mugs make a good last minute gift because they’re available at most stores, pretty cheap for a gift, and will actually be used by the recipient.
6. Socks. High-end, badass, toasty warm (if you live where it gets cold) socks. Smartwool/Darn Tough/etc.. They may “meh” at it early on, but will thank you later. Maybe even very later, but it’ll be appreciated (a lot) eventually.
7. Most people I know don’t have bluetooth hook ups in their car, FM Transmitters are absolutely fantastic, they’re relatively cheap and life changers for folks that like to listen to music while driving, Probably $15 and under.
One of those copper chef/gotham steel type skillets. They’re fantastic, less than $20, endless use.
8. Cookie/brownie mix in a mason jar with instructions on a card and a bow.
Or a visa gift card.
9. Fancy pasta, fancy jarred sauce, nice block of parm cheese, in a serving bowl with a kitchen towel. You can do this as expensively or as cheaply as you want.
I also loved a book called The Fortune Cookie Chronicles by Jennifer 8 Lee (basically, a woman exploring Chinese food in the USA as well as her own Chinese roots, and the history of fortune cookies… really fascinating). She talks a lot about soy sauce in that book, so I’ve given that book with a bottle of “real” soy sauce many times. I love sharing things I love with other people, so that’s a gift I love to give.
10. Subscription box. Like coffee? Subscription box. Board games? Subscription box. Make up? Subscription box. Ties or socks or yarn or hot sauce or tea or beer or wine or Japanese candy or marvel or harry porter or fitness? Subscription mother-fuckin box.
11. Go to the dollar store and grab some over the hand oven mitts, then head to the grocery store and get cake & brownie mixes, hand write the baking directions on a decorated index card or slip of paper. Personalize each one with a message or somesuch. Bam.
12. If it’s someone you’re fairly close to, print out a photo of the two of you and put it in a frame. It feels thoughtful, but can also be done in less than an hour and is cheap.
13. Depends how well I know them, or if I’ve used the same trick before – but it’s probably a cast iron skillet. Costs $20 for a good one (rhymes with dodge), and I always get thanked for it, like a year later.
14. Aldi.
A million calories of chocolate for about twenty quid.
Enough to distribute to everyone.
15. Here is what I do every year.
I go buy gift certificates for my favorite restaurants, and gift cards from Best Buy. I then put them in Christmas cards with no name on them.
I keep some in the house and some in my car.
If someone gives me a gift, I say “Wait a minute, I have something for you too” and go get the card. I quickly write their name on it and hand it to them.
Its worked out perfectly for me for years. I give everyone that gives me something, and if I end up with extra gift certificates or gift cards, I just use them on myself.
16. I make them an elaborate Christmas card with an etymology of their name. It’s always a hit and has more meaning than a gift card.
17. Good pair of headphones.
18. I make very good gingerbread cookies and decorate them very elaborately, like I’ll draw a portrait of them in frosting or I draw a cartoon character they like. Im pretty good at it.
19. Chia pet. So many varieties. ‘Ironic’ gift for those recipients, awesome gift for the others.
Either way you are a hero!
20. Those soft-ass blankets you find in any store around Christmas time. And then I buy one more for me. Every goddamn year
21. For girls: anything from Anthropologie. They have a great gifts and the quality/craftsmanship is decent. That and they gift wrap beautifully for free! I use this for last minute birthday gifts quite often and it always impresses.
For guy: gift cards or booze. Guys appreciate utility.
22. Nail place… Women will go wild over a free mani-pedi.
23. A bottle of their favorite spirits, or for non-drinkers/kids, a book.
24. BOOKS!
There is a book on literally any topic ever.
Fan of Formula 1? Book.
Fan of Jujitsu? Book.
Like economic news? Book.
Porn? Book.
Lonely? Book.
Want to improve yourself? Book.
And you can get books everywhere. Online, in store, thrift stores, little free libraries, everywhere.
25. Houseplants!
I usually have lots of spiderplant babies and keep a few small pots on hand. Great for all occasions.
26. Those Hickory Farms meat and cheese gift boxes.
27. For a family – Get a tin bucket of gourmet holiday popcorn (caramel / chocolate flavored popcorn) to share.
For a dude – Get a bottle of fancy champagne or other booze like whisky or bourbon.
For anyone younger than 30 – Get an Amazon gift card.
For a kid – Give them a $50 dollar bill. They likely never handle money and if they do, the $50 looks so much better than the $20. Easy way to become the cool uncle.
For a girl – Get them a gift certificate to a local salon, a big blanket, or fun warm socks (not regular socks but those nicer holiday woven socks).
For your mom – Get her an ornament that has sentimental value, or, go to the mall (who does that anymore) and get them to hand paint an ornament on the spot with the family name & year on it.
For your dad – Get him NFL or NBA tickets.
28. Things that are consumable… everyone has way too many junk trinkets just because someone felt they had to buy something.
Ground coffee from a local coffee shop (if you know the person has a grinder, get whole bean, but not everyone does). They usually have fun Christmas flavors this time of year.
A bottle of dry wine or champagne.
Nice candles (go for ones that are soy based and have lids) or liquid hand soap.
29. Who wants lottery tickets?!?!?!
30. If we’re talking non-money gifts you know what’s a great go to? TJ Maxx. They are just a hodgepodge of random stuff and they have bailed me out so much when it comes to gift giving because with all the things they have you are bound to find something for everyone.
31. Home made egg nog, Irish cream, or Kahlúa. Most people will love one of the three, they are easy to make, made by hand, affordable, and our gifts that go away.
32. I’d bake a bunch of stuff or make fancy looking caramel apples. If I give people food, they seem to be satisfied.
33. I’ll do a blanket/candle/bottle of wine/nice beer and fudge,
OR a movie/board game and stop by the dollar store for a shower caddy, fill it with popcorn, movie candies, etc if it’s for a family. Do a caddy and filler per family member.
34. Starbucks gift card. Everyone loves Starbucks.
35. Lego. Lego for the nephew, lego for dad, lego for mom, lego for granny, lego for EVERYONE!
36. Spicery subscription for three months. Print out the confirmation and chuck it in an envelope. I’ve gifted this twice and both recipients said that they never wanted any other present from me – just for that subscription to repeat.
37. If it’s last minute, I tried to go to a clothing store I know they have clothes from. Throughout the year I’ll ask “bro, nice jacket, where’d you get it?” Then I remember their spot and get them a gift card.
Then to cover my ass cause some people are weird about gift cards I say “I saw a _____ while shopping but I couldn’t remember your size/didn’t know what color you’d like/etc.”
38. Magazine subscriptions. The New Yorker. Times Literary Supplement. New Scientist. Private Eye. Done them all.
39. Mom – Candles and epsom salts.
Brother – Steam/eShop card, or go to a second hand store and find a game I think he’d like.
Dad – Itunes Gift Card or some kind of sports paraphernalia.
Girlfriend – something that reminds me of her, or that I think she’d love (last Christmas it was a pair of socks that said ,”I’m a delicate fucking flower”).
40. I buy ten copies of the best book I’ve read all year and wrap em in newspaper.
Proof of success: I do this every year
41. A brick of batteries. Everybody needs batteries, nobody will say no to batteries, and they will think of you when they are in a pinch and realize you got them a BRICK of batteries.
Great practical gift.
42. Throw blankets from the 24-hour drugstore. They’re $15 and nice enough that I use them myself. This is also my go-to for any gift swap at the office/with people I don’t know super well.
43. Pictures! Take a picture of something the receiver will like, or find one you might already have, throw it in a cheap frame and WABANG
44. Go to CVS and get a gift card (they have Amazon, iTunes, random others). Swing buy a restaurant and grab a gift card for that place. Last ditch, don’t have time to get a hard copy of a gift card- just buy one online that you can email.
45. Luxury kitchen stuff.
There’s a great kitchen & dinnerware shop within walking distance of my home. I can get pretty dinnerware, flatware, glasses and linens in a range of styles, and they have durable, high quality cookware for the more practically minded people. It’s my go to gift-shop, because everyone eats.
46. Lava Lamp!
No one has one.
They’re 20$
Oh, and it’s neat.
47. I’d bring them all to a restaurant and pay for their meal-> easy way to make a party and present at the same time without having to worry about what to buy them since they can order themselves what they want
48. Pharmacies always have cheap last minute crap like travel manicure kits and hot sauce samplers.
49. You get a box of chocolate! You get a box of chocolate! And you get a box of chocolate! Everyone gets a box of chocolate!!!
50. Cash, candy, and/or alcohol.

Taco Time
It started with a desire for authentic Mexican tacos from a food truck that didn’t take cards. I was hungry with a pocket full of pennies and no real desire to trudge through the bitter cold of February in NYC. I did it anyway. Again, I was hungry for not just food but, to escape a full day of solitude.
I got to the corner across the street from the train station and really counted how much was in my coat pocket and wallet. I really only had pennies and a few silver coins that weren’t worth much. It’s either I walk down church Ave. looking for a bank or CVS to get cash or hit up the Target on Atlantic Ave. to get some cashback. It’s bitter cold and too many bodies on the sidewalk to make me go wondering so what time does the train leave? 1 minute til arrival. Let’s go.
It really does arrive in 1 minute and now I’m fully committed. I board the train and watch a Hispanic couple loveingly hold each other for my entire ride. They’re cute. Atlantic Ave. comes quicker than I’d imagined and I’m exiting. Of course some rude, middle aged to old, white woman bumps me. There’s enough space on the platform and where exactly are you rushing off? My eyes follow her and of course she’s just lost, trying to find her way with blinders on her head. Making my way up the stairs and there’s someone rushing behind me. God, these people are reassuring me that my desire to never leave my apartment makes sense.
Finally I make it to the Atlantic Terminal mini mall. My 1st set of stairs take me past the Long Island Railroad Station waiting area. Immediately, my desire to head home, home to Long Island is pushed to the forefront. The Hempstead train leaves in 2 minutes. I have no change of clothes, haven’t brushed my teeth, this was just supposed to be a run up the block for tacos. Target. Upon entering the sea of shoppers I’m made to feel ok. There’s so much life here and I’m not alone. Yet, I feel like I’m watching everyone. A spectator apart from the world. I find a pair of pants, some bread, get in line and hit the cashback button. I’m getting these tacos.
My longing for new literature pulls me in the direction of Greenlight Bookstore. Once I head into the bookstore I realize there’s an event going on. I don’t know if it’s beginning or ending but, I see several people holding plastic cups of wine and I’m now on a hunt for wine. I find it in the back of the store.
A friendly masc presenting white woman offers me wine and a sprinkled sugar cookie, courtesy of the author. I’m constantly drinking red so I opt for the white. I ask her if my favorite book clerk Jess is here and she tells me she’s moved somewhere out of town with her girlfriend and no longer works there. I was a little hurt. Why couldn’t she tell me? She helped me find all of my current favorite reads. Do I have a type? Nora vows to be my new helper and I accept. Another masc presenting woman to help me explore my love of books and consequently myself.
The event is starting and I find out it’s a book launch/signing for some author I never heard of. She’s white, female, and looks really uninteresting but, she’s a writer. A writer who’s published her 3rd book. She’s got my attention.
She reads an excerpt from her book and it’s obvious she has talent and experience. Her scene creation of a new author reading his work is spot on. I wonder, do all new authors really obviously pull from their experiences to write something so painfully subjective? I don’t know but, I’m sure her talk back will provide some answers. Ouch. A white man, middle aged to old, graying, bumps me hard. He says nothing... doesn’t even realize what he’s done. The talk back is pretty interestig. Ouch. Twice this man bumps me. He apologizes this time as I give him a look of disdain. Oooo, they’re opening the floor for questions. Goddamit, a 3rd time. This was a light brush. Does this man not realize how much space he takes up or is he really just trying to touch me. I move. As I’m listening I see this man move closer to me to get a good picture of the author. He uses flash. God, does he not really care how much space he takes up?
I raise my hand and ask a question about writing a true event and masking it as fiction in a very tongue tied way. I guess that’s what happens when you haven’t spoken to anyone all day. I have to re-explain myself and the author finally gets it. I’m now determined to write a memoir with the nagging ache to write a screenplay.
The talk back is just about over so I hunt around for a new read. Mr. Rude White Man bumps me one more time and I’m back at the wine table. I choose a red this time. Nora suggests a book for me based on the type of books I’m into. She missed the mark and I long for Jess.
Because book tables are pushed along the walls to make space for the event I’m crawling on all fours between these tables to get to every shelf. I must check out every book. There’s no Jess, remember? I settle for James Baldwin’s “Go Tell It On The Mountain”. The 1st few pages read well.
On my walk back to the train station I’m sipping the rest of my red in the bitter cold. No gloves. A cute dog stares in my direction as he’s being held by his owner. Maybe they’re waiting for an Uber.
In the station a family of all women catch my eye. A little girl gayly hopping around in her circle of women is such a spectacle. I’m entranced by her smile. Her happiness. I’ve also got a really good buzz going. As I make my way down the stairs to the train platform I watch two white women in love, kiss and hold each other. I want to stop and stare but, I’m sure they don’t want a spectator. So, I sneak glances. They’re married.
A subway musician plays something that sounds like Bob Marley. He’s as beautiful as his tunes. 1 minute til the train arrives. I follow the family of women to sit in the same car as them. When the train arrives I get a front row seat. The star of the show, the little girl who warms me along with the red. An addict nods and leans across from me. Despite his circumstance he got dressed, came out, and decided to travel. I guess a few drugs were necessary to get him through the day. I get it. My stop arrived quicker than expected. I softly told the the leaning man to “be careful” and he said “ok”.
Finally, back on Church Ave. and it’s taco time. I wait for the tacos to be made and of course the cold isn’t so bitter with alcohol pumping through my system. Ahh, I say 2 vegetarian tacos but, I really want 3. It’s late tho. I grab my bag and head home. Red and blue lights flash my way. What’s going on?
A black woman is screaming in the street. Two police officers stand nearby. What’s going on? One of the officers walk in my direction. A pretty black woman.
“What’s going on?” I ask ask.
“She don’t want him to leave her.”
I immediately notice the screaming woman is clinging onto a man.
The officer says “All these people in the world and she can’t live without him.”
The officer smiles and begins to walk way. I laugh and tell her she has a pretty smile. She thanks me and keeps walking. Weird of me.
The man tries to get into his vehicle and the hysterical woman jumps into the drivers seat climbing on top of him. I watch her ugg boot dangle out of the car. I can’t help but, laugh out loud. Comedy and tradgey pair so well.
Truthfully I understand her.
Finally, taco time. I wash my hands, prepare my place mat and chow down. God, it was all worth it.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is going online. (Check out the thirty below.) Now, officially; the oldest and largest fringe festival has been canceled because of the pandemic. But the festival wants to “Keep the Fringe spirit alive” by encouraging theater companies to put their shows online. This offers New York theatergoers a chance to get a Fringe fix in August for the first time since 2016, when the International Fringe Festival celebrated its 20th anniversary, then shut down for a year — and then announced it was moving to Octobe
Edinburgh’s Fringe is not New York’s Fringe. It’s unjuried, and it’s….overwhelming. In 2018, there were reportedly 3,548 different shows performed in 317 venues; in 2019, more than three million people attended, which was more than six times the entire population of this city in Scotland. The New York Fringe never had more than 75,000 theatergoers attending some (juried) 200 shows in 16 venues.
There was never a way to offer an adequate preview of the Edinburgh Fringe (the way I did every year of the New York Fringe), and it’s not much easier now when Edinburgh is coming to your living room — or, in at least one case, your bathroom.
“Play In Your Bathtub,” an audio play that I reviewed when it debuted in April is going to Edinburgh. It’s one of eighty shows “all written and produced in lockdown” that are being presented for free over the next three weeks at The Space UK, which this year is a virtual space. This is just one venue at Virtual Edinburgh, but even 80 is too much. So below are the 30 that are going online starting this Saturday, August 8th at TheSpaceUK website. A new batch of roughly the same number will go online every Saturday for the rest of August. Click on each poster to read the descriptions.
For what it’s worth, the ones that most intrigue me include two from the Edinburgh-based Anomaly Theatre Company: “Interrodated, “He thinks he’s interrogating a suspect. She thinks she’s on a blind date. This is not going to end well.” “Glitch” A driverless car runs over a woman, and has to learn grief. and “Bookshelf Ballad,” in which the books we always see behind the TV pundits are given voice to say what THEY are thinking.

LAS VEGAS
This month I had a chance to visit Las Vegas for the first time. Makur and I spent about four days there seeing the city and surrounding areas. I went there with some negative expectations which were mostly based on what I’d seen in movies. We booked a room in a “smoke-free” hotel/casino. Upon checking in, we were told that getting to our smoke-free room involved going through a smoke-filled casino. We’d also been warned at check-in, “Don’t touch the Pringles container in the room. There is a sensor on it, and you’ll get charged $15 if it’s moved even slightly.”
As we made our way through the casino, I could see what looked like impoverished senior citizens with a small bottle of whisky or bourbon in one hand and a cigarette in the other, spending their social security checks on slot machines. With us were parents with children, toddlers, and newborn babies in strollers, all making their way through the wall of smoke to their own smoke-free rooms. Once we reached our room, there was a very strong offensive room freshener smell that didn’t seem to fade away.
In the streets of the city, the smoke was made stronger by the addition of marijuana and cigar smoke blended with the fumes from the open over-sized alcoholic beverages that people carried with them from one venue to another. After four days in the city, I had developed a smoker’s cough. I imagined that my lungs must have become like those of a 90-year-old 2-pack-a-day smoker. I eventually went to the doctor about my cough and found my oxygen level had declined to below a normal level. In addition to the 7000+ chemicals found in second-hand smoke, there were additional pollutants from the cars, trucks, and the airport adjacent to the city. In the photo below, you can see the thick layer of smog that blankets the city.
Despite the drawbacks I’ve described above, there was a lot I really liked about the city.
The things I saw people doing in Las Vegas would be illegal in Iowa City. People carrying open drinks, selling marijuana, smoking marijuana, smoking cigarettes, advertising “girls” for rent, and gambling. But because those things were legal in Las Vegas, the police presence seemed very minimal or even non-existent. The environment there created a feeling of everyone being welcome. A Muslim woman wearing a burka was on the same street with barely clothed Vegas show girls. Despite marijuana being legal, there weren’t masses of people lining up to purchase. Legalization just means you need fewer police. The city streets seemed quite peaceful and people were happy.
We found a very nice organic vegan restaurant and many places selling fresh-made vegetable drinks. A variety of food energy bars were available. Many Starbucks locations were available. Delicious spring water was available in gallon sizes at Walgreens and CVS near the hotel, so we could stay super hydrated. The Las Vegas Strip is about 4.2 miles from one end to the other. So, over 8 miles both ways, including many stairs to climb where escalators were broken leading to mandatory skywalks. It was a good workout.
There were oxygen bars where people could breath fresh oxygen infused air, and also boutiques where you could get an IV infusion of water and electrolytes directly into your veins.
We enjoyed seeing Red Rock Canyon to the west and also the Hoover Dam area to the east of Las Vegas. You can see some photos from those areas in the gallery further down the page.
Las Vegas has over 150,000 hotel rooms with some hotels having more than 5,000 rooms. Many of the hotels cost billions of dollars to build and some have what seem like cities within them – indoor depictions of European towns with evening sky and real gondola rides. There are exclusive luxury brand shops which might only be available in places like New York and London. For example, the PRADA store was selling a new designer water bottle for $500 (water sold separately). Another designer store had baseball caps for $350. It’s a city of extreme extravagance. Yet, if you know what you’re doing, and avoid the traps, you can have an enjoyable and economical visit.
Experiencing Las Vegas made me appreciate Iowa City even more. Iowa City is like a Las Vegas for people who like bike trails, nature, breweries, coffee shops, great food, yoga, education, and the arts. Iowa City is its own kind of overwhelming extravagance.
PHOTOGRAPHY
In the fall of 2018 I’d been using an iPhone 7 from 2016, and it stopped working just weeks before the new iPhone X models were to be announced. Because I’m very dependent on my phone for my work, I wasn’t able to wait a few weeks for the new phones and I ended up getting a year-old model iPhone X from 2017.
My broken iPhone 7 was eventually replaced by Apple under warranty with an identical one, but that process took about a week.
I’m typically a year or two behind on my phone model. So, this month I decided to trade in the old 2017 iPhone X for an iPhone 11 Pro Max which is a larger iPhone that has three lenses. The larger size phone offers good battery life, and the lenses provide better quality photos than previous iPhones. There is a standard lens, a zoom lens, and a wide angle lens. These work for photos and also for video. Unless someone is planning to sell enlarged prints at an art festival, smartphones these days are sufficient for sharing life’s events with friends and family.
What I really appreciate about the three lenses in the new iPhone is that I can get some photos that I previously would not have been able to take. Most of the photos in the gallery below were taken with the wide angle lens. Using a regular lens and walking backwards to get everything in the photo wouldn’t have been possible. Click on any image below for a larger gallery view.
THANKS!
Many thanks to all of you who keep in touch and provide support for the work I do.

Catch and Ball
To play catch up since the unfolding of friend and boy drama. Work has been a lot. It’s been full-on with not being able to keep up with the workload, it’s different being in a commercial role because the responsibility sits with you and I have been taking things quite hard lately and upon myself. I’ve been trying to shift the mindset though I can easily get caught up in it; “ What could I have done better”
My schedule has been back on track with training which has been the highlight of the past couple of months. I feel my strength growing and I’m proud of where I’m at and how I’m getting there! The best investment was getting a trainer to help get me there.
My health has been up and down; I lost my period, I started to become more in tune with my gut instinct when I previously didn’t think I had one at all (I had a gut instinct about gym girl and look how she turned out). I had a gut instinct something was up with my health and I was right. I'm so connected to my body and how I feel these days. I went to the doctors during what would have been my ovulation cycle, because I was spotting which is very unusual for me. Since I removed all contraception I have been super consistent. I get my period every month on time, there are two medium flow days and two light days and then over rover. When I went to the doctor, he suggested a Pelvic scan, I had already done a pregnancy test so we ruled that out pretty fast. I didn’t go immediately to get the scan but when my period was a week late, I got it done. I did another pregnancy test, also negative. I also had a blood test, to confirm I'm not pregnant. Just confirming all ways under the sun that I don’t have a baby. But they did find a 5mm cyst in my uterus wall…. The plot is thickening ( but the blood isn’t). I have had digestive issues, bad bloating and I fainted at work ( due to not eating enough based on the fact I’m full from bloating ) I have been feeling a bit down about this though there are worse things in the world. I lost my period for a couple of months, from June to August but I now have it back though with no real reason or cause to why it disappeared in the first place, everything in my tests came back normal. Doctors aren’t much help either there’s no remedy, solution, answer. Zilch!
I started seeing a kinesiologist ( after a recommendation from my friend), I was a bit of a sceptic but it’s been the most enlightening journey. She was able to pinpoint I have vitamin D deficiency ( which I already knew from my blood test), also low in B. For my gut sake, I need to reduce my dairy and fructose intake. This is all by holding vials to my chest and seeing which makes my arm weak to hold up ( Don’t knock it till you have tried it). She also works on the emotional side and releasing emotional stress and trauma that can stay in our bodies which at the moment has all been led back to family; my parent's divorce, anguish with my brothers, abandonment. The way she explained it is ‘Imagine the door flies open right now and 100 huge hairy spiders start crawling in”. Your body physically responds to that ( well mine especially being arachnophobic) and that’s what kinesiologist is about it’s finding those inner subconscious thoughts that are affecting you or bringing up emotional distress! One thing that came up for me, was the feeling of 'yearning' and it came up for 'bar boy'. I knew I had been suppressing feelings cause I was only wanting casual. She digs deeper to find whIm yearning. She can bring up the emotion from the past, to when I was 8 and my parents divorced and my dad had left, not so much physically abandoned me but its how I had felt at the time because I didn’t see him as much as I wanted. I know there is some deep-rooted family stuff I just didn’t realise I was holding onto it or even had thought about it. Most of my emotional distress is held in my large intestine which is why also experiencing bloating and irregular bowel movements. I'm back there tomorrow so going to try blog the session in more detail.
I have been isolating myself a bit at home, having lots of Sam time which has been lonely and I have been pondering whether I’m spending my weekends the right way! I think I have avoided some social situations and it’s made me feel like a mixed bag of emotions. The weekends don’t have to be an expected way, they just need to be weekends if I choose to spend them in bed than that’s what I’ll do. I have to accept that. I’m not that bad I have one social day generally on a Saturday then have Sunday for me. My friend EM calls them sacred Sunday’s I would wholeheartedly agree! My only problem lately is I’ve been stuck in my thoughts too much. Its a work in progress.
I made some pretty big decisions which I am stoked about; I finally am following my New Year goal of putting my plans in place of moving to Europe, huge step! I have applied for my British passport and am waiting for it to come back. I will leave in April/ May of 2020, I’m not stuck on any date but that will give me the chance to save as much as possible. I booked tickets to go home for Christmas for 5 weeks - it’s going to be my longest stint back home in a while and I’m so looking forward to it ( though worried about how I'll feel emotionally with family and time)! The lead up to these decisions was overwhelming that’s for sure, I was overthinking and drilling too much into what each aspect looked like: work, travel, money, training, settling, career, my family, my friends. It was my work Mum who said to me “Samantra, you have been thinking about travel for a long while and nothing has to all be planned, though you have an opportunity to go do it and you will regret it if you don’t”.She is spot on, and yes she calls me Samantra and I love it! I have worked for GF for 9 years, I’ve been in Sydney for 4 which has been such a monumental time in my life of personal growth. I know that moving to Europe is just going to broaden my perspective, the experience in itself will teach me so much. A new culture, a new way of life, new people, new opportunities. I’m scared, to leave the comfort and security of a company I’ve been with for so long but I also know it’s the right thing to do! I will leave behind some friendships in Sydney too which will be life long connections. My mum is here in October, with the new suitcase she bought me. So I can pack up as much as I can to take back to NZ. It’s not to say NZ will be my immediate home after Europe but that’s where my family is and that’s where my heart is and always will be. I haven’t shared my plans with work yet and I don’t plan too til I’ve locked flights and the new year rolls over, I think that’s when it will become real.
We are just past mid-year so have just reflected on the goals I set myself. I had two fitness goals. One was to do city to surf marathon- I didn’t do this but I did walk from city to surf with AJ who came and stayed for the weekend! It was so great having her company. The other was to squat my body weight which I’m close too - I can do 5 reps of 50kg. I weigh around 70kg. My savings goals have been up and down I haven’t been as careful during the year as I would have liked but being strict on my budget now I have a plan to go! My friend LH, who has always been a massive inspiration and our friendship goes back a decade and we are still close as ever. She has been living in Berlin doing a summer course and living the “hustle” life so I’ve been taking some notes and finding the way of living the Sydney “hustle” life. Her example was recycling plastic bottles for money at the supermarket. I sent her mine, which was keeping my receipt from 2018 to exchange my faulty headphones. The Europe moving goal is still on track but pushed out though I’m not sure if I will learn Dutch or try learning basics of Spanish. I want to learn more and educate myself - I have been looking at doing a supply chain course; a CPIM, a world accredited course. It’s $1800 which I see as an investment I’ve enjoyed my supply chain roles the most. I think my CV would look good to any recruiter but even better with more education up my sleeve. I will give another month to ponder and see if that’s where I want my path to go.
I’m finally up to date on my blog! At one point I had 8 posts half-written in pieces to complete and upload - they weren’t all updates on current life but events and a few other topics of me which I'm excited about cause I had kept a goal to do more blog post this year and had brainstormed things I wanted to write about. I think as always its been a struggle but I feel I’m keeping up to date. I need to set aside the need for it to be perfect and continue writing as I feel! I truly feel lighter after writing everything out - it gives me a sense of satisfaction, but helps me to reflect on my thoughts with them on paper. Can you believe that with this post up I have written 14 posts this year?! With another post shortly to follow …. That is pretty cool! This is me playing catch up and chucking the ball to the next topic…
