people on this site will acknowledge that the US economic state is horrible atm but won't apply that information when talking about 'doomed Gen Alpha and their horrible parents.' like... we're at a point where most families have both parents working, sometimes several jobs, and coming home exhausted. That's not starting on how expensive childcare is and how the pandemic did (and still is!!) impacting very young children's social skills. I'm sure there are parents who just stick their kids in front of iPads instead of dealing with their behavior, but I feel like a lot of people just fail to look at the bigger picture of this whole 'iPad kid' phenomenon.

If I was a parent rn, with a small kid, and was exhausted working 2 jobs in a time where Covid is reaching a new high, yeah, I'd probably give my kid an iPad or something. No it wouldn't be ideal, but that's the reality for a lot of parents rn. I work with some of them at my job, I hear them facetime their kids. These aren't negligent parents who don't care about their children. These are tired parents who are struggling to provide for their kids in a late capitalist society that prizes profits over people.

Okay, so I really want to like Kit. And I did like her in the pilot. But her attitude over the last few episodes has been kind of grating on me. And I get that she has legitimate reasons to be upset with everyone and the situation, and I even sympathized with her after Jade confessed that she’d been letting Kit win whenever they sparred, but her whole ‘moody teen who’s not getting her way’ vibe the past couple episodes has gotten really fucking old really fucking fast.

And I’m assuming we’re building to a confrontation of some sort between her and...someone (most likely Elora, possibly Willow or Jade) where they just tell her off for how she’s been acting and she fires back with some of her legitimate complaints and everyone learns a lesson and they start figuring out how to be an actual fellowship on a quest and not just a bunch of people heading in the same direction, and all I can say is...I hope that moment comes soon.

i'm always a bit unsettled by disdain for intellectual or creative labor in leftist spaces. there's this commonly held belief that academics are a bunch of rich old white men, rather than a wide variety of people who are barely getting by. most lecturers in universities are adjuncts living paycheck to paycheck. authors make very little money as a general rule. most researchers are overworked and underpaid. and yet there's still this idea that academics are overcompensated to sit around and smoke cigars together while making shit up
