my favorite thing about wal-mart is that every person who goes there enters the same entry doors thinking "only the scum of humanity shops here, except me, who shops here because i need something here" like baby the call is coming from inside the house

for jk im curious to know what he means by the way ppl maybe assume he is a player or do they assume other things? I seen ppl assume he could be a cheater in relationships but thats not the case he is loyal asf imho, do u think its down to his people pleasing habits? he reminds me much of bangchan where ppl have said in readings he likes to be of use to ppl and to be able to help them where he can offer it. idk if its the same for jk
but fr when jk meets his fs shit is going to go down so maybe she can help jk even out his mindset towards all the stuff he has achieved which is more than the average korean so u think he would be quite proud to have helped put korea / kpop and in general hes done so much so I hope he is able to somehow feel accomplished. I do get what he means by it seems so superficial but ehh ppl have pushed for fame and fortune since decades ago and it either makes or breaks a person depending on their views of their experiences
well.. so much, if not the entirety of kpop idols' image is manufactured. since these people basically make a living by selling an image to the public, it's something that has to be calculated. your image has to be as appealing to people as possible, so what do you do? you only show off your best, and bury the rest. as an idol, you basically sell yourself as a fantasy, someone who appears to be perfect, but in reality is just as flawed as we all.
in jungkook's case, he's just tired of fame. it's like, the validation and admiration was nice at first, but after a while it just feels vacant and empty, and not real. these people love the manufactured you, they love the role you play in front of cameras. not the real and raw and weird you, with all your flaws and mistakes. and for a while, jk didn't know himself outside of being an idol, because that's all he did since he was a teen. so he was at this stage of “who even am i, when not being bts’ jk?” and easily fell into the impression that, his “normal” self is so insignificant and lacking in comparison. just unlovable. like people wouldn't love him if they knew of his more “unlikable” traits. everyone projects this fantasy onto him, but many don't wanna know his real soul. in his ideal type reading, i remember he had this intense craving for genuine love. not love for the idea of him, but for the real him.
you mentioned bangchan, while they do have similarities in their people-pleasing habits and desires to serve them, jk's energy is honestly much more pure to me personally.
bangchan is “i need you to like me, not just because i'm a person who needs validation, but also because it benefits me and my bag” (i don't blame him that's how shit works lol)
jungkook is “i need you to like me because i need affection and love and i feel empty otherwise”
in fact, jk's energy actually reminds me a lot of felix in this regard. they're surprisingly similar. (they do have similar charts)

I saw another post on another blog that had a really good point and wanted to share it with everyone here...unfortunately I can't find the comment now!
The anon suggested that perhaps why the wire services may have freaked out about the edits on KP's photo is because of terms and conditions prohibiting agencies from selling post-edited or post-modified images. So someone at the AP or whatever wire service saw the edits and assumed that the usual rules - no selling or purchasing edited photos - applied in this case and overcorrected by issuing the kill notice to rectify their mistake of purchasing an edited photo. And in that panic to correct their "error", no one realized that the photo was sourced from a personal social media account, thus is subject to different rules. More internet chaos and a KP apology later, the photo suddenly gets resurrected and some of the community notes are removed.
It's a good theory, and one that's very plausible. Probably the most plausible explanation of everything that happened.
As to why there was suddenly a resurrection, I'm thinking the lawyers got involved and if the lawyers finally did get pulled in, they probably said either "this is a personal photo accessed on social media, those rules don't apply" (and everyone went "shit-shit-shit") or they talked about the sudden liabilities they're now open to with this precedence of calling out edits that they now have a standard to uphold (and everyone went "shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit"). Again, this is just conjecture. The kneejerking back-and-forth that happened today does seem classically lawyerese to me, though.
A second piece to this, I'm reminded of how KP shares their photos. Which is that the actually aren't selling their photographs. It's an old story from back in 2013, but when KP published the baby George-Kate-William-Lupo photos taken by Michael Middleton, a blogger who wanted to buy the photos for her website contacted Michael or KP to enquire about purchase and usage, and Michael or Michael's people responded that there was no cost for using the photos as long as she properly credited him with the copyright and used them only for a news story. I imagine that's similar to KP's process; if a publication (such as the AP) wants to reproduce a photograph credited to Kate (or William) that has been published on social media, the entity makes a request to the office, and the communications office sends them the source file.
At no point in any of this is there actually any money exchanging hands. I'm pretty confident there's no money being exchanged for KP's personal photographs to be reused, in which case the "we don't buy edited photos" rule is null and void. Different standards apply here. (My confidence comes from the fact that this is part of the "press pact" that Meghan and Harry pushed back against; they wanted to charge copyright and usage fees for their personal photographs rather than make them freely available on request like the then-Cambridges did.)
And then finally, all photographers - amateur and professional alike - edit their images before publishing them or sending them anywhere. What Kate did is no different than what Misan Harriman or Chris Jackson or Samir Hussein do (and have admitted to! Check out those links for their "confessions."). And I suspect that KP's statement where Kate said she had done the editing herself before the photo was posted is what threw the monkey wrench that maybe brought the lawyers in - because if they retract KP's photo on the basis that someone edited it before it was first posted/submitted to the public, then they have to retract thousands and thousands of other photos on the same grounds that someone edited it before it was first posted/submitted to the public. Again, this is all speculation.
At the end of the day, it all seems to be boiling down to one thing: there was a mixup and a miscommunication somewhere. And for me, all the signs point to the cock-up happening on the media's side. The rules/terms and conditions they have in place to use only verified images are good ones to have, but the last 48 hours have made it abundantly clear that there are holes in the rules and gaps in how they vet and verify images they source and distribute.
(Honestly I'm surprised that photographers haven't spoken out in Kate's defense. I'd have thought at least one or two would've said something. I can see why they wouldn't - maybe jobs are on the line or maybe they lose contest/recognition opportunities if they do - but it does strike me as a bit odd.)
(Also, sorry to the anon from earlier this morning to whom I said I probably wasn't going to post on the photo edit drama anymore. Clearly that plan went by the wayside.)

someone asked me awhile ago about forgiving an sp so i have a new perspective. when it comes to forgiving an sp, i want you guys to think about something *disclaimer: im not blaming you. no one is making you manifest them back. if you have problems they're yours alone and you are responsible for them.* if you believe in the multiple versions thing (bc instantly things can change based on your awareness) then let's for a second separate the two. we have
💔 sp who didn't commit, didn't want to show affection, was cheating, toxic, etc.
🤍 sp who is dying to commit, is constantly showing you affection, would never dream of cheating or even hurting you
both of these people exist right now in the moment depending on whichever you're aware of. STOP dealing with 💔since you left that reality there's no need for that dusty mf to exist. and probably 🤍 hates them because of the growth and pain they had to endure to get there. imagine your entire life being about the worst thing you've ever done. (luckily i don't have to) but whenever i think about how was trying to manifest him back but would keep arguing with him in my head i literally imagined me and 🤍 talking and then all of a sudden i get upset at 💔 who no longer exist and is a shadow of 🤍 past. i can consciously accept this fact but 🤍 cannot. every time i think about 💔 and how i was treated i was just reminding 🤍 of his past (therefore doesn't exist) mistakes. since i was trying to manifest 🤍 while continuously interacting with 💔, hot and cold behavior instead came up. stay with 🤍
he didn't want to reach out cuz he was scared i hated him and tbh since thought transmission exists that's exactly what i was showing him by arguing with the previous version. once i stopped this and decided i wanted to put the past behind us i realized it was ego in the first place so it was REALLY easy.
i h a t e the old him with a passion and whenever i thought about it i get upset but now i just assume he gets pissed at him too cuz of his growth. make the old story work for you while destroying it since getting rid of the old story makes you want to get rid of beliefs by default. be kind and patient to yourself and remember that at the end of the day no one is making you or forcing you.

I’m asking so politely for your theory. I’m so curious bc I ALSO have a theory based on space law so I’m rlly curious if it’s the same/similar
YESSSSS FINALLY I GET TO TALK ABOUT THIS!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING ABT THIS DMTRYÓ!!!!!!!!!
anyways. so basically...
(theory under the cut because i dont want this post to be too long ksdjnfsd; also this is technically 2 theories so buckle up, its gonna be a long ride LOL)
there's a policy that a lot of real-would space travel organizations have which dictates you're not allowed to have sex in space due to the risk of pregnancy.
if we assume that this policy has been adopted by pony express, it opens up the possibility that, contrary to popular fandom belief, jimmy didn't rape anya.
this theory also incorporates certain details from the developer q&a, which can be found on the steam announcement page.
in order, here's the theory & my evidence:
anya's unwillingness to feed curly his painkillers is because she's unprepared to care for someone at his level of injury. according to part 1 of the q&a, anya has never been to medical school, and her only training was provided by pony expresss: a company notorious for cutting corners. considering this, i find it perfectly understandable that she'd find it emotionally difficult to literally shove pills down a severely disabled man's throat; especially since he was formerly her superior. it's a reminder of how just one mistake can damage you for life, which fits the game's themes of taking responsibility and putting effort into fixing your mistakes.
anya's general demeanor around jimmy post-crash seems less afraid and more exasperated to me. the way she praises him for somewhat minimal-effort tasks but otherwise avoids him when necessary reads more like she considers it easier to play along with him rather than confront him, since he's already exhibited somewhat unstable tendencies prior to the crash (specifically, his hostility towards curly during the party). related to this point, the q&a reveals that she's read up on psychology during her tenure on the tulpar... but we'll get to that later.
during the first flashback segment, we learn that jimmy doesn't take the psych evaluations seriously. this, to me, indicates an unwillingness to follow company policy, as well as a significant lack of foresight, as at this point none of the crew are aware that pony express will no longer exist as a corporate entity when they return to earth. i mention this because, even if the crew didn't get laid off, jimmy would likely still receive a penalty just for refusing to give honest answers on his psych evals alone (after all, we know how pony express is about punishing their employees).
both anya's and jimmy's remarks during curly's birthday party imply that they're financially struggling. anya states that she has no savings, and jimmy says that once he's laid off, he'll go back to his "struggle of a life". part 3 of the q&a also states that jimmy can't even afford to have hobbies, implying that he's really not well off at all. following this logic, neither jimmy or anya would be able to care for a child.
the scene with swansea and anya in the cockpit, as well as swansea's later reference to it ("anya told [him] a whole lot of things") is interesting. some things to note about swansea are that 1. he's "really into workplace safety" (according to daisuke), and 2. he doesn't think highly of people who let their sexual desires control them or make bad decisions as a result of sexual desire (i.e., his criticism of daisuke's tendency to think with his "downstairs longnose"). if we assume that, considering jimmy's lack of foresight or respect for the rules, he and anya had consensual sex that ended up resulting in a pregnancy which anya told swansea about, it would make sense for swansea to still disapprove of jimmy's actions, as it would be against company policy and an instance of jimmy "thinking with his downstairs longnose" (sorry you had to read that sentence twice).
here's the big one: the dead pixel and anya's observation about locks. lots of people in this fandom forget that you can have consensual sex and regret it later. this scene, to me, represents anya regretting having had sex with jimmy because of the pregnancy. the dead pixel represents her observations in hindsight, and her comment about the lack of locks on the sleeping quarters reflects how she wishes she thought more about her decision and chosen to just sleep instead. additionally, curly's remark about "safety" could have made anya realize that, since jimmy has already proven himself to be unstable, he might do something drastic in response to finding out she's pregnant...
...which is why she hides the gun in the next flashback. when curly confronts her about it, she states that she was hiding the gun from jimmy. while she does mention that she knew curly would "never give her the gun to protect herself" with, i believe that her main motive behind hiding the gun was to protect jimmy instead, for a specific reason...
piggybacking off of the above topic, jimmy's response to anya's pregnancy being so quiet is telling, i think. if he assaulted her, don't you think he would've done more rather than just walk away? wouldn't he have at least told her to make some excuse for him? speaking of jimmy's reaction...
when jimmy speaks to curly just before crashing the ship, it seems more like he's talking about being laid off & penalized for breaking policy as opposed to being arrested. considering the earlier revelation that jimmy is impoverished on earth, it's a much bigger deal to him than it likely is to most of the others on the ship, which is why he decides that the best course of action is to crash the ship. why can't he get another job? we'll get to that right now:
jimmy likely has paranoid schizophrenia. my friend, julian (@saya-sakisaka, who is schizophrenic himself), pointed out to me that jimmy exhibits symptoms that he himself experiences, such as having a generally angry/irritable demeanor and visual & auditory hallucinations for much of the game. furthermore, jimmy's reaction to anya's pregnancy may be due to pregnancy itself being one of jimmy's triggers, which in turn marks the beginning of a psychotic break that lasts for most of the game (as evidenced by much of the more tense/traditionally "scary" gameplay taking place within jimmy's hallucinations, most of which involve some sort of pregnancy symbolism and come directly after jimmy is placed in situations that cause him stress).
something else that julian pointed out to me is that, unfortunately, many paranoid schizophrenics attempt suicide during psychotic episodes. this brings me back to an earlier point in this post: anya may have hid the gun from jimmy in order to stop him from committing suicide, and may have known about his schizophrenia due to her knoweldge of psychology. on that note as well, jimmy may have deliberately lied on psych evaluations in order to hide the fact that he has this disorder (or, alternatively, is in denial of his disorder; both explanations giving a reason for anya to disguise her attempt at protecting jimmy as one at protecting herself), and may have also taken the news that pony express is going under so hard because it would be extremely difficult for him to get another job because of his disorder. after all, in "the last one and then another", it's revealed that jimmy only has this job because of curly.
tl;dr: pony express policy forbids having sex on company ships, and jimmy and anya had consensual sex that they both regret because it resulted in a pregnancy that would be detrimental to both of them because of this policy, their financial situations, and jimmy having paranoid schizophrenia & having pregnancy as a trigger.

Love Interests and some discussions.
Hello y'all, good morning, noon or evening. Today i would like to finally address the elephant in the room that is: character's ages.
So i'll rip off the bandaid and be clear: i'm not changing them, they're remaining canon.
Yall are prolly thinking "But in't mc 500???? isn't that bad? why not age them up!"
For two reasons.
1: These boys and their behavior is extremely juvenile most of the time, i don't think the first years suddenly being 2 years older should happen without significative changes in their personalities. Yes, i'm aware that 2 years is barely enough time for someone to change much specially teens(I'm turning 21 like next week and i have trouble reminding myself i'm not a minor anymore, that's how little this shit can change if at all). But due to the nature of NRC and the ppl in it these characters would undergo so many things in their lives inside these 2 years that it doesn't feel right to me to make them act the same or even worse speculate on how, for example, older Ace or Epel would act without canonical material for that.
2: Wheter people like it or not NRC is a HighSchool. Yes, yes i know that y'all are probably going "WHY IS IT CALLED COLLEGE THEN".
*Sigh* Y'know, eve since all we had for this game was the jp website and Malleu's illustration where he's rising from his coffin and nothing else i just had the feeling english speakers would have trouble with the school's name.
You see, college can mean "school" in other countries, not necessarily university.
I know that cause i'm brazillian, we literally have the word "Colégio" which is a synonym for Escola(School). In japanese it's essentially the same and that's a mistake made by JP Disney who didn't consider this when naming NRC.
Japan has many synonyms for school and since college can mean school they didn't think too much about it despite having a very different word for university (Daigaku).
And i'm a firm believer that relationships between some immortal being and a human is always going to end up in some kind of difference and if you're gonna problematize it you're gonna end up not ever watching or reading ANYTHING anymore, specially Lillia stans.
Like? Kamisama Hajimemashita fans? cooked
Inuyasha fans? cooked!
And the list goes on.
Why would i need to feel guilty about it if i'm not writing smut.
Like this a sfw story, these characters are NOT going to fuck.
People need to stop assuming that every relationship in fanfiction is going to end up portraying sex.
The most i'll do is some passing suggestive thought or so cause these are teenage boys, everyone knows how they are and the puritan parade can go cry louder abt it but everyone knows teens, it is what it is.
But that's MY personal take on it on MY story so ofc ppl can and are free to have whatever other views about this topic, as long as we're all respectful, mature and civillized.
Anyway now that that is finally out of the way we shall talk about the love interests.

Consider this a form of foreshadowing.
My writing isn't stellar so i do advise to keep the bar y'know kinda low as this is mainly for fun despite trying my best.

Omg sameee, I love delusion yandere too, there are something so charming about them. Do you have any jojo characters list for top most delusion yandere?
Btw this is a little to weird to say out loud but last night I had a dream about Gyro after I read your writing for him. Actually I have never really interested in Gyro, I read your writing because I just love how you analyze character. So in the dream, he act quite like how you describe him, I remember there are me, Johnny and Gyro sitting around the fire at night. I was talking about how I adore Mountain Tim and how gentleman he is and Gyro jealous. He said he can also be like that and start to get closer to me despite my effort to push him away, he even pin me down and start kissing me?! (I don't remember much what happened after, I guess I just wake up). Funny is that Johnny just sitting there, staring, maybe he just don't know how to react or just doesn't care at all.
I think Gyro is also belong to the delusion yandere type, I just feel like he fit in this category. Your opinion?
~ 🏵️ anon ~
They’re very cute. They’re fun to write for- someone who fully believes they’re not doing anything wrong is dangerous.
So sorry for laughing at Johnny just sitting there- the visual of him just sipping his drink and giving you the equivalent of ‘damn that’s crazy’ is objectively hilarious. I disagree with Gyro being delusional, but he definitely has jealousy issues. Talking to someone else/talking about someone else in front of him is an awful move, how could you, anon.
As for the characters I think are very delusional… here’s a short list with some elaborations below.
Narciso, Jotaro, Diego, DIO but it’s kind of warranted he literally has a cult, Yukako, F.F., Enrico.
Narciso fully believes you’re already dating, and bound to be married. His mind skipped the entire courting process and went right to “mine.” despite only knowing you for a few seconds- and you weren’t even really talking to him. If you don’t like him, that’s alright! He can change his sex and body type via his stand to your liking, it really doesn’t matter to him, as long as you’re happy. He can’t help but smile and talk to you affectionately- he doesn’t hide the way he scowls and glares at everyone else, though. You’re special, because you’re his. Don’t forget, okayy? He doesn’t mind reminding you when you make little mistakes- please don’t sip from other people’s drinks, he doesn’t want your saliva to mix.. Don’t hug other people, even if it’s family, they don’t deserve your dead skin cells rubbing off on them and he wants only his scent to be on you. But anything above that, like kissing someone else, or claiming to have another lover… isn’t advised.
Jotaro is under the belief that you need him to protect you and you’ll drop dead the second he looks away. It doesn’t really matter if you’re strong, or if you think you can handle yourself. As long as stands exist, everyone stands a fighting chance of offing you- even if you have your own. Jotaro feels strong protective urges for his darling very early on in the relationship- even if his darling is still under the assumption that he doesn’t like talking to them. Even if his darling isn't physically weak, he doesn't really trust that. It's not reassuring. The only thing that is reassuring for Jotaro is the mental image of his darling safe and sound- locked up somewhere only he knows about.
F.F. is still learning about the world. They don’t really know what the word “dating” or “marriage” means, or why you seem so averse to doing it with them, but they’re down if it means they get to spend more time with you! They're delusional and obsessive, but not quite possessive or protective. F.F. just wants to be around you, and they don’t really know why! They just assume you’re in a bad mood when you try to push them away- “Oh! Oh! We’re playing?? I love this game, shove me again!!! Your hands are so soft, I wanna eat ‘em!” … They mean well, really. Your distress is always taken as something they can’t control- yeah, their darling just breaks down sobbing when they get handsy with them, no reason.

Okay wait… dan & milo & ‘i made out with two chicks once in college.’
this got... long. i was like "oh it'll be just 2 paragraphs 300 words" but i forgot that milo is my achilles heel sdkslhgfkh. it's under a read more :3
"Dad, they're not..." Milo frowned. Shifted his hands around. "I'm not cheating on Gabrielle with Jonathan."
Dan thinks back to their own high school and college and young adult years, thinks of all the mistakes they've made. Cheating was something their friend group had become desensitized to doing to each other, despite how much it hurt to be on the receiving end. They'd sworn to be a better person with Milo, which is why they were here. Staging an intervention after they caught their kid kissing some random boy despite being in a long term relationship with that girl from his art elective, Gabrielle.
Dan liked Gabrielle. She was creative and rebellious and intelligent, perpetually reading scientific articles on her iPad, smoking up with Milo when she thought Dan wasn't looking. She reminded them a lot of Vanessa, but she had Nate's easygoing attitude - sometimes Dan thought if the two of them ever had a kid, their kid would've been just like Gabrielle.
"Okay, explain what I saw then," Dan says to Milo. Firm, but not angry. They'll be damned if they treat Milo how Rufus treated Jenny.
"Dad, I'm... we're..." Milo took a deep sigh. As if he was afraid. "Gabi and I are both dating Jonathan, too. We're polyamorous."
There were a million ways Dan could've imagined the situation playing out, but not like this. Never like this. They look at Milo, and they think about Blair and Nate's sage advice about threesomes. Then they think about Blair's messy break-up with Chuck and Nate's equally messy break-up with Chuck. They think about Vanessa and Olivia and how they're engaged to each other, and how Dan doesn't mind anymore, doesn't feel hurt or left out, but when they were younger, it'd felt like there was something about Dan that made them unlovable. It'd hurt.
"I'm sorry if you have a problem with it," Milo says, obstinate, jutting his chin out and scowling. He is so much like Jenny sometimes that it stuns Dan that there's no blood relation. Milo is a Humphrey through and through, in all the ways that matter.
Milo at seventeen is also a lot more emotionally mature and responsible than Dan or any of their friends had been at seventeen.
"I don't have a problem with it," Dan says. And then, because they don't know what else to say, "‘I made out with two chicks once in college."
"That is not even remotely the same thing, oh my god!" Milo exclaims, but he looks less tense-angry-scared, so Dan considers it a win.
"I had two girlfriends for maybe a week? Then they both broke up with me to be with each other," Dan says. Saying more wouldn't be right, given that the kid has a decent relationship with his Aunt Vanessa and her fiancee Olivia. "All my friends at the time told me polyamory was bound to fail. That it was a stupid choice."
Milo looks upset now, relief crumbling into the face of someone who is likely going to cry but trying to suppress it.
"That's not what I"m going to tell you, however," Dan says. "More people involved means more feelings can get hurt. But it also means that you can experience more - and not necessarily negatives. To love and be loved by two people is a wonderful thing, but to break two people's hearts or have your heart broken twice is sad and painful. All I can say is... treat each other with care, all three of you. And that I'm sorry I assumed you were cheating, when I've only seen you treat Gabi with respect. Thank you for telling me despite that."
Milo leans forward, and Dan's arms open, letting their kid fall into the embrace. They ignore Milo's small sniffles, the way he's shaking. He must've been really scared.
Dan wonders at themself. At what they should've done differently, to make it easier for Milo.
"I'm proud of you, kid," they say, and Milo clutches tighter, holds onto Dan like he never wants to let them go.

Watched a really nice video about Island of the Slaughtered and in order to free my mind from it, I'll rant about it and give some headcanons
TRIGGER WARNING for death, torture, ghosts/malevolent spirits, light SA mention/talk at the very end (it'll be in bold to be easier to notice! It starts after "Based on your thoughts about Heather, the text will take on new meanings yet work").
So, it's rare for writing to scare me. However, for some reason, this did give me a fright. Maybe the way the YouTuber read it, or perhaps the music and ambiance he added, is why I was hyper-vigilant while showering but the concept itself is terrifying when you think about it. 15 people died! You'd think that the kill count would stop, that they would survive for longer, but they don't. Even smart or athletic characters get caught... And for the dumbest reasons. Exactly like teenagers. They all make mistakes yet, somehow, this is barely their fault. They couldn't have planned it. They couldn't have known. The killer is almost omnipotent, it's like they can smell whenever there's an opportunity. They don't seize the simple moments of weakness (like how they didn't keep watch or, at least, only had one person which is exactly how Harold managed to sneak out and get killed), they wait until they can get that perfect chase or opportunity to torture the campers.
I feel like the sheer number of victims is what gets me. It's so easy to assume that they're all competent enough to survive a little longer. What makes it hit harder is that the last footage of those poor teens is the beginning of TTI up to Ezekiel's death. Imagine seeing the beginning of a horror movie composed of your loved ones and not knowing how it ended or, worse, learning that they were a victim, brutally killed, and you can't even have the body back. A whole month. That's how long it took for someone to go help them. Everyone knew. And no one did anything. Fucking Chris McLean ended up doing it. The same man who abandoned them, got them into this mess, and refused to say where the island was located.
Now, some headcanons before I overthink two of the deaths:
The canon serial killer and the one in this AU cohabit in the island. Maybe on good terms too. Our buddy with the hook and the chainsaw is just chilling, maybe helping out a little his mate, but enjoying the show. The chainsaw used for Heather might even be his! What a good pal.
The ghosts see each other as they were before their deaths. Be it that they're imagining it or that they can manifest a not-scary look. Owen and Geoff are forced to stay close but they really don't mind!
They don't really care for Chris's helpers. Sure, they were angry and disliked them, throughoutly tormenting them, but they weren't the target. They likely could have killed them, as the helpers probably accidentally broke some rules, but they were pawns to torment and scare Chris further. At some point, they begin to leave them alone as they realize that the helpers are their age... They're like them. Chris brought two more teenagers on an island with a serial killer, a monster who dismembered Ezekiel, with no experience and no actual weapons. Fuck, they're normal teens. What are they doing here?! This just angered the ghosts even more and cemented their desire to take revenge against Chris.
As long as Chris doesn't realize that he broke some rules, they let it go. Those are only here to scare him and make him squirm. To make him know that they're here at all times, watching, waiting for him to slip, loathing him.
While it's canon that the ghosts are fine with the survivors unless you've slighted them, they won't impose their rules and haunt you. They'll maybe taunt you and be here, reminding you that they died partly because of you, but they won't do much. For example, Trent will simply check in on Gwen. Her guilt is already enough and he doesn't have it in him to cause her more remorse. However, the sound of his voice as he sings into the night, kills her inside. He doesn't mean to but she's being eaten alive at not being able to get him out —even though she would have died with him if she stayed or manager to free him and they both know it. Noah, on the other hand, will glare at Duncan and make snippy remarks whenever he's trying to give out instructions. He'll question his choices and at every hint of annoyance, simply raise an eyebrow and in his classic tone say "really?" which guilts Duncan enough for his taste. He also chirps in when Duncan inevitably realizes that he was right about some of the directions, the bitter realization that they were both wrong and right about some things, that this was a misunderstanding and they were both too stubborn to work it out, that Noah could have survived if he hadn't been a jerk. All Noah had to say was "told you so" and Duncan would dig his nails into his palms at the cruelty he had displayed.
The reason why the ghosts didn't get the killer immediately is because they didn't know the limits to their powers and they were scared. Simple as that.
To add onto that, they used Chris as bait to make sure everyone else got out safe. They made Chris's death longer and more painful than anything they had gone through before immediately killing the murderer. That or they then tormented them until they died, either of natural causes or of fright.
Time for me to overthink two of the deaths!
My choice is Ezekiel and Heather. Ironically, they're the beginning and the end, both pictured as innocent and young.
Quick note for both of them but the ghosts may look like that because that was their last state as living. Yeah, I'm implying that they were dismembered alive.
Ezekiel:
I LOVE the writing for his discovery. It comes across as child-like, even when it comes to his corpse. You could say I love it to bits.
It's easy to forget that he was a sheltered kid after everything that happened in the canon. Here, he's portrayed as sweet and so, so much like a child. Someone who didn't deserve it.
He was an easy target. He might not even have noticed that anything was amiss until it was too late.
It would take time to find every part of his body. Did the crew search for him before setting off? I doubt it. They likely put things together quick and bailed, never finding his every piece.
A small detail that came up was that the hole Katie hid in might have been the one where his arm was. I like to think it was and she had to bite back her scream. The killer could have thought that they didn't need to search for her, she'd abandon her friend and get back to safety or if she didn't, she'd have screamed her head off at finding a rotting arm as she tried to hide.
His rule is the most interesting part to me. Chris will have to search for his body once but then he will simply have to run to them every time afterwards... And that's the last thing you want to do when there's a killer on the loose! It's also very, very fun for a video game. All the rules are! The art not being too scary either would make it very good. Anyhow!
If Chris needs to bring them back together, it's even more horrifying. Would he need to carry them with him in case Ezekiel wants to bother him? Do they go back to their original places and he needs to do everything every time?
Picture his voice. It isn't scary. Yet it would make it so much more eerie and unsettling. While true for every victim, his ghost doesn't even look scary. Again, it's child-like. And with everything else, it makes a wonderful picture.
Heather:
I love EVERYTHING about this one. The reference, the call backs to the canon... The writing!
I'll keep the latter for the end as it will tackle more sensitive content.
God, the way she's the last warning. Threatening. Vengeful. Exactly how she was in canon and how Chris perceived her.
The fact that she was found by the two most important people to her character! Iirc, Gwen found her head which is a shame since it's a reference to when Leshawna (sorry for the spelling guys) stuck her inside of the fridge.
The way she was grabbed by her ponytail! It's the way she wore her hair in latter seasons.
Off with her head for the queen bee. The stereotypical mean, popular girl.
Now for the writing: This was a straight-up call-out to her haters. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it directly calls Chris, and us, out. She was a kid. She was terrified, begging, small and alone as she was killed. It makes sure we get that. We know her as a mean girl but she was a girl. She didn't deserve it. The way her suffering was highlighted, showing that she was crying like a young kid, compared to the others' was well-written and hit harder than the rest. It can even imply that Heather pretended to be meaner than she was for the show. It's a valid theory for the canon, she was cunning and she knew it made her memorable. But that meant that Chris truly thought she was. Based on your thoughts about Heather, the text will take on new meanings yet work.
Last trigger warning for SA:
"She was pretty". Amazing. Perfect. That, by itself, tells me that the creator is a very good writer and knows how horror works.
Listen. Listen up well. The SA headcanon isn't bad. Is it gross? Yes. The entire AU is. SA is. However, we've grown desensitized to murder and gore. Not SA. It still feels horrible and outrageous. That's why it works and makes for good horror. BUT! The thing is not to overdo it. Not say too much, not use it too much. Especially not as a fetish.
Here, it's done perfectly. Yes, she's a minor. They all are and most got brutally murdered. So a creepy murderer isn't that bad.
The implications that he kept her head because he found her pretty are amazing. It makes her fate so much more tragic. It brings a new level of cruelty and disgusting to her death. We know that he doesn't have pure intentions. Just staring at her frozen head is horrible enough. We know the way he looks at her, how he sees her. It also raises the question why. Why her? Canonically, most of the girls are pretty. Lindsey, in particular, was the most beautiful. Was it because Heather cried and begged? Was it because he had disfigured the others before he could notice their looks? Is it because he found that "submitting her" made her better? (Which is incidentally a real thought process r*p*sts have. Some like to bring some people down a peg by doing those awful things, hating how they felt inferior because their poor victims didn't look at them or at the world "right".)
It's a real question and worry that this simple like brings. It brings a real, scary subject we aren't desensitized to just yet into this and enhances the horror. It doesn't say too much, it isn't insensitive. We won't ever know what the killer would/will do. We just know he's a vile piece of shit on every level.
It's also a huge contrast to how child-like Heather was described as and how it was hammered into our heads. It's said so simply, almost like another child would say. "Oh she's pretty". It isn't said in a gross way! That's very good writing. It keeps the same tone. It's almost eerie with how simple and factual it is.
That headcanon exists (and might be popular, I don't look at the fandom) because the line and implications are there. Horror should make you uncomfortable and that's what this does. Of course, personally, I wouldn't say the killer did anything. But, he might have planned to. He might have after the body was discovered. It wasn't like the campers had the time to bury their friends or would fathom that this monster thought Heather was pretty.
It all depends on the delivery and of course some edgelords will be insensitive and approach it terribly. I think the actual AU did it exactly how it should be done.
The entire Heather section was done as best as it could ever be.

totally random but i saw the one guy who asked "who is orig cale to you" and im just a lil baffled lol. like... i didnt know that there were people who didnt consider og cale to be... og cale??? like... it's a transmigration novel. obviously kimcale isnt og cale??? thats the whole premise of the story???? unless they're talking about how the author hinted that kimcale's original name might have been "cale barrow" bc white star stole his body???? idk, i just didnt know there was anyone in the fandom who thought like that and im just a lil baffled and im wondering if someone can explain it to me cuz i cant quite wrap my mind around it LOL
cuz like...... we all know in literally chapter 1 that kimcale's real name is kim rok soo??? and we're reminded several times throughout the novel???????? like...... how do you read the novel and not notice that kimcale's name isnt actually cale????? (even with the ws thing, its totally possible that "cale barrow" isnt the name of kim rok soo's stolen body but rather the name that white star had back 1,000 years ago. which only makes sense when you consider "barrow" so like... kim rok soo's original name before his body was stolen is actually probably not even cale???)
its not really important who has which name in my opinion tbh, they could both be named bob for all i care, its just a bit weird to me that there are fans who dont know this??? idk, maybe they're the type of fan who's never read the novel but enjoyed the fandom so they just dont know?????? cuz like.... its just canon??? like not spoiler information??? this is literally chapter 1 information????????? im just guessing now. idk why this is so stuck in my head LOL sometimes i just fixate on shit and i cant quite turn my brain off. can anyone explain to me how this works???? or did i just misread the ask. im kinda focusing on the part that says "for you" which insinuates that there are people who call kimcale as orig cale and im like.... ??????????????????
Well, sorry I find this funny, wasn't expecting it lol, anyways,,
I was also confused at first but thought maybe they assumed I was the one confused and mixed ogCale with kimCale or something xD
Some in the fandom don't get me when I say ogCale and then post an art of Cale in Krs body, and apparently to majority, ogCale is Trash Cale or young Cale, while to me ogCale is just the same whether young Cale or Cale in Krs body later.
Or maybe they simply phrased the question wrong by mistake or as you said, enjoyed the fandom and hadn't read the novel or the Manhwa.

Zeke is my favourite fictional character. He's just so... fascinating. He's initially presented as weird and mysterious but he turns out to be a giant dork and a huge loser with the most severe daddy issues I've ever seen.
I love him so much. Here's a very long ramble that's kinda sorta a character analysis (it's bad though).
He gives off Reddit mod energy (then again, Eren has Discord mod energy (disclaimer: I love Eren too)), has the sense of humour of a 12 year old, hangs around people who are quite a bit younger than him (granted, his only other option is creepy old military men), has smoked since he was probably like 15 and spends his life "pretending" to be stupid.
And yet he genuinely cares about other people in his own way. He really did just want to make it so that Eldians didn't have to suffer. He assumed that because he had a shit life and was treated terribly (as were his parents), everyone else was in the same boat. It never occured to him that other Eldians were happy, because, like, why would they be?
He's willing to go to the ends of the earth and beyond to fulfill his mission, which he's held on to since he was a teenager. Even though Ksaver did plant the seeds for Zeke, Zeke came up with his plan himself. Ksaver never mentioned anything about reproduction, just that the Founder could be used to alter Eldian biology.
He's devasted when Eren goes "lol jk bro" and betrays him, because he finally found someone he thought he could trust (his first mistake was trusting Eren of all people). He couldn't understand why Eren went against his plan, or what Eren was even trying to accomplish in the first place.
Also, I think it's worth mentioning that Zeke's euthanasia plan undermines everything Ymir Fritz went through. She suffered severely, but I like to imagine that she really did love her daughters to the best of her ability. Zeke saying that Eldians would be better off not existing in the first place and that he's going to get rid of them is telling Ymir Fritz that all her suffering was for absolutely fucking nothing. Whereas Eren wants Eldians to live on, because that way, Ymir can be freed, and she can see that there is beauty in the world (which she did via Mikasa, as badly explained as it was lol).
Zeke never saw that beauty. He was brainwashed and abused and taken advantage of his entire life. By his parents, by Marley (yes, even Ksaver), and, later, by Eren. To him, there was nothing redeeming about the world.
Hence his final line where he talks about what a lovely day it is and how nice/clear the sky is, but that it ultimately is too late to realise that (? I haven't read the chapter in a while, I don't remember the exact wording). That's him acknowledging that he was wrong about the world lacking beauty.
Yes, Ksaver did care for him and did love him, but he did also use Zeke for his own gain. He was projecting his son onto Zeke, as he said so himself in canon, and he was also hoping that Zeke could accomplish what he (Ksaver) wasn't able to. Zeke may not have been as determined to save the Eldians (in his own way) if he hadn't spent time with Ksaver.
Zeke and Eren are fascinating to me, because Eren threw away his humanity in order to save the world/his loved ones, yet was very upset that he had to do so (given his paths convo with Armin), yet Zeke... was stripped of most of his humanity before he had a chance to even embrace it. My personal interpretation is that he never realised he was lacking humanity (which is something Levi kept trying to point out, especially in the forest with reminding Zeke about his Rakago crime) because death and killing were so normalised to him (and to him, his enemies weren't human because they were mostly Eldians and he, as an Eldian, wasn't considered human -- or at least he may have used that as a justification for his actions), and it wasn't until the very end that it hit him.
Lastly, part of why I love the dynamic between Zeke and Levi is that they're two sides of the same coin. They're both admired and feared by people (for different reasons), are traumatised in every possible way, and are similar yet also very different.
When they're interacting, neither of them give a shit about the other's status or powers or whatever. They fight like equals on par with each other and don't hold back. Warchief Zeke? Captain Levi? Nope. They're just Zeke and Levi to each other. (And they'd be friends if they were on the same side, maybe.)
ANYWAY Zeke Yeager is a great character and I love my monkeyman so much. He had such good character development and his backstory is really well done. The "I love you, Zeke" paths scene is my favourite since in all of SnK just for how much that means for both Grisha and Zeke.

i've said before that it is completely out of line to look at a person recounting painful memories of childhood abuse and then bring up their past mistakes and i'm standing by that. i know some of you are going to jump on me for saying "mistakes" but this isn't me trivializing. this is me looking at things in context.
i haven't seen these supposed sources where they say drake bell's victim admitted to lying. i looked at news sources from the time and looked at statements given and haven't seen it anywhere in there that she admitted to lying, which i would assume would be front page news. if anyone wants to direct me to something verifiable that isn't part of a tiktok conspiracy, i would be interested. i have seen that bell wasn't convicted of actually touching the girl and they found no evidence of pictures ever being sent. the internet keeps vaguely saying the girl stalked him before and lied about her age and i don't know how true that is. it's always reprehensible to groom children and there isn't a justification for that. a few years ago i might agree with commentators saying "you don't just not know that someone is 12" but i worked at space camp for the past few years and there were a few times where i was looking for my assigned group and was told that the group that i'd assumed were 17 and 18 year olds (because they were taller than me and more muscular or filled out) were actually 12 and were actually my assigned group. idk what they're putting in the water but i assume it's these damn tiktok beauty standards. and i often have the opposite problem - when i was 16, people would assume i was 13. now that i'm 29, people assume i'm 19-14. i have a friend in her mid20s who is constantly mistaken for a 10 year old boy. it is fucking hard to tell how old someone is and if it's true that she was in his shows which were meant to be 18+ he'd have no reason to know her age. i've seen commentators state he immediately broke off contact when learning about her age.
i want to give benefit of the doubt in this case. i want to believe that the apology given was with complete accountability and remorse. imagining being in his position and realizing he may have contributed to an unsafe situation on par with one he himself experienced may have been a huge wake up call for him. i want to remind everyone though that we are not called on to forgive drake bell. we're not the wronged party in the case. the only one who can give forgiveness is the victim and victims do not owe that.
and with that i feel i should say that i can unfortunately believe that the domestic violence accusations may be true. the timeline seems to match up with the years immediately following what happened with him, the years he'd be more likely to flounder and struggle with the secret he was keeping. who knows what unprocessed trauma he was living with? it doesn't make it okay by any means (and again we are not the ones tasked with "forgiving" him and victims don't even owe that) but it makes a certain sense in context. i do think drake bell needs to come forward and tell people to stop attacking his ex on social media because come the fuck on. just because someone went through something horrific doesn't mean they can't do fucked up shit. i know i've done fucked up shit and i've worked through it as best i can. internet harassment and hate campaigns are not the way, but we didn't learn that lesson with amber heard (who i 100% believe sorry not sorry).
i think we need to move on from this mentality of holding people (particularly child stars) up on pedestals then dragging them down when they do fucked up shit. i have to believe people can change and grow. i'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt so long as a pattern doesn't emerge. we need to move on from thinking that there is a "perfect" victim or that if someone has transgressed in later life that means their victimhood doesn't matter. we can mourn the child that drake bell was. we can mourn the child that amanda bynes was. we can mourn the person that all these people could be if they weren't swallowed by this cesspit. that is a separate conversation from talking about the ways they fucked up after coming out of that environment irreparably damaged.
leave behind the mentality that to show compassion for another human being is the same as "forgiving" them. and move on from the mentality that you personally are the one wronged when these people's lives have nothing to do with you.

I've been considering starting up writing SGA/SG-1 Fanfics recently and I was wondering if you had any advice for a (relatively) new author?
Hello, sweet anon! (Sorry for the late response, things have been a bit hectic over here.)
First, I want to say, whaaa, someone is asking me for advice!? 😳
Secondly, Dude! We would be so happy to have a new Stargate writer in our midst. I'd say our fandom is one of the more inclusive ones out there and we are all incredibly grateful for more content.
🤔 Hmm, advice for writing/posting, or interacting with our fandom? (I assume just writing/posting.) (If you are wondering about becoming a part of our fandom and the feel of it, just ask me that question as well.)
The best and most simple advice I think is: Read. Read. Read! Write. Write. Write!  Watch. Watch. Watch! But you probably want more xD
Writing:
Writing is the easiest part for me. I write every day. I'm kind of a freak like that.
If you're having trouble with writing, there are some things I do. (not in any order.)
I use a habit tracker, I love stats and this tracker has a lovely design and a sweet little overview. Plus you can have separate widgets on your home screen for each habit, you don't have to go into the app every time you do one, simple press. I love it. But I don't sweat it if I miss a day or a few or more. I just want to have the widgets as a reminder, it keeps me from forgetting, I do have a small goal of doing at least one of my habits by the end of each day. Writing happens to be my easiest habit to accomplish. (Hence the writing everyday xD)
You don't have to write a lot. Even if it's just a bit of editing, a paragraph, or a single word, that's enough. You opened up the document, you thought things, you tried.
Don't share all of your ideas with others. Some people can thrive on this, (if you do, just ignore this advice.) but I am not one of those people. I lose steam for an idea if I give too much away. I also cannot for the life of me write a long fic and post it as I write. SCHEDULED WRITING!? NOPE. I write the entirety of a long fic before I publish them. Sometimes I publish chapters and edit them as I publish, but the meat of everything is there.
So, take as much time as you need.
When you feel satisfied with a fic, sit on it, wait a couple of days, weeks, months, and reread it. New eyes, even if they are your own eyes can really help. (I don't always do this, but it can help with certain fics, esp long ones.)
Lay somewhere, chill and just daydream about your idea/story. This is working on your story too and I find that this makes me just type down thoughts as they come.
Make the time. It doesn't have to be a ton. My partner only writes for five, maybe ten minutes a day. He laments how little he writes but I always ALWAYS say.
“You do write though and that is the most important thing.
I also have a very specific writing system to keep myself from getting stuck, and disorganized, but that's a whole thing and this is already getting long. (If you do want to hear about it though, feel free to ask.)
Posting:
This is the hard part for me. No matter how many fics I have written, posts I have made, gifs, what have yous. I always get a bit overheated and my guts feel like bees are trying to escape them.
If you're having trouble posting there are a few things that I think can work depending on why you're worried about posting.
Mistakes: Misspelled words, flow, that sort of thing. Get a beta. They're several individuals in our community who are amazing betas. (I could contact them for you if you need a connection.) There are different kinds of betas as well so you can tailor your experience in that regard. But, sometimes you don't want a second opinion and that's okay too. You can always edit it whenever you read it again anyways (assuming you are going to reread your fanfics. Which I do.😊)  and remember, many of us don't care about that sort of thing, we will just enjoy the story despite mistakes. General anxiety? Well, I can't do much about that. (I suffer from it myself, see bees in my guts above). Just remember that this is supposed to be about something you love. Yes, writing is work, but writing fanfic should be fun. Should be for you! These are stories you want to tell, stories you want to read, and things you want to fix and expand on. Everyone else is just along for the ride, getting off at the next stop, or maybe they don't even want to come in the first place and that's okay. The destination is yours.
The main point is to just do it. If you need help, ask, (already ahead of some people just for asking me for advice, which I am still shocked about) if you're nervous about them saying no just ask anon and connect after you get a yes. If you're worried about your writing that's okay, It's a very personal thing, it's normal. Accepting this can lessen the worry. (I was terrified of posting fic for about idk eight years or something.) And remember you never have to keep up with or write the same as someone else, we are all different and have different processes, I think the best thing you can do is figure out what works for you.
If you're nervous about content though, again understandable, but honestly people rarely care, and in our fandom people are chill af. Ship and let ship. AUs, crack, ooc, obscure kinks, OCs. We accept them all.
Just make sure to tag correctly. People have guides to help with that.
Wow, this got long, whoops. Sorry, I can't help myself. I have Rodney word-vomit vibes.

1, 4, 9, and 13 from the Salty Ask List
im assuming this is for apex
1.) What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
ok so there's a lot of ships i hate for an active reason but as for a ship i simply do not get. revenant x ash. like they're both simulacrums i guess. is that it?
i guess i just don't get the specific way REDDIT likes revenant x ash. they seem to think that ash would be all tsundere for him like im sorry are we talking about the same character
4.) Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
i hate several ships but i'll just list the 3 i hate the most. life//tane, crypt//age and crypt//son. the straightie ships are like moderately popular for straightie ships ig but crypt//age is everywhere and its like. they're like that one post about straight women's first gay ship LMAO
9.) Most disliked character(s)? Why?
rev and caustic r obvious answers so i'll name 3 others. Fuse because he's boring and obnoxious and kinda contributes nothing except being BH's love interest and the reason Maggie joins. like i feel like you could cut Fuse out of apex entirely and with minimal rewrites everything still functions the same. He just feels really irrelevent. tbh i didn't hate him until the past few seaons when Fuse/hound started really ramping up and I couldn't escape seeing him which just made me more annoyed every time I saw him. overexposure ig
hate mirage cuz he hogs so much screentime and has like 3 character traits the writers bring up over and over without doing anything new so people can go AUGGH MIRAGE SADDEST CHARACTER EVER 🥺🥺🥺 and yall somehow fall for it when its the same piece of info literally every time. like how many times do they need to remind you evelyn has dementia. give him a storyline already. "Mirage sad because mom forget" is not a character arc yall have been doing this for like 12 seasons now come up with something new
then finally. Wattson. i have written several posts about her so im gonna be short but she's SOOO terribly written and such a shit person which like, i LOVE me some terrible petty bitches like loba. but loba being a terrible petty bitch feels like its on purpose and wattson being a terrible petty bitch is on accident and the writers bend over backwards to make her the cute uwu do no wrong girl all the time and it's SO exhausting like let her have character flaws and maybe have someone acknowledge she's made mistakes???? 😭
edit: crypto!! 13.) unpopular opinion about he.
i have two: 1. he is kind of jacked under that jacket. he is not a twink. he has muscles. not like fuse or gibraltar, and he doesn't have shredded abs like seer and octane, but he's built after years of working out and when he wears a tight t-shirt, you can See. Percieve Them. and 2. he has ADHD (and a paranoia disorder).
i know the more popular hc for him is autistic which is VALID but i personally read him more as ADHD who developed a paranoia disorder due to his circumstances and both of those things combined are why he's so fidgety and messes around with his jacket and puzzle cube a lot

can someone love someone but not accept them? they never accepted me, but they stayed. they knew they never wanted to love me properly because they didn’t accept me, but they stayed. why ?
it depends on so much. 1st your definition of love, 2nd what their lack off acceptance manifested as. – did they hold what they couldn't accept against you, and remind you or their distaste for it? did they stay silent about what they couldn't accept, but you're knowledge of their lack of acceptance end up developing into a silent unease between you both? – i think you can absolutely love someone, yet find it difficult to accept aspects of who they are and what they do. take a look at homophobic and transphobic parents. in fact, some could argue that the choice to love somebody in spite of who they are and if you agree with them is a testament to that love. does it always feel good to know someone doesnt agree with you or accept you? no. is it easy or straightforward for the person to come to terms with the correct way to love someone they dont agree with? no. but the thing that helps both people work through it is the love itself. – that doesn't mean anyone should tolerate bad treatment 'because of love', if your standards for the people you want around you and the way you want them to treat you dont align with that persons treatment of you, your completely within your rights to distance yourself. but no amount of incompatibility or distance means they dont love you, or will make them love you any less.
honestly, to answer this your question directly ima need more clarity on the situation. but this > 'they knew they never wanted to love me properly because they didn’t accept me, but they stayed. why?' makes me feel uneasy. unless they directly voiced that to you, your operating on a big assumption. and if you are assuming, then the issue your having stems from that sentence. – no one is perfect. sometimes all we know is what we feel. we may not know what to do as a result of our feelings, or how to act in the situations those feelings put us in, but when people care, they show up, and if they've showed up (unless they're a seriously nefarious person which is actually quite rare) its because they intend well. 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' is literally about how a person can show up with the best intentions, yet fall short or make mistakes. until i know more ill leave that there. of course, dont tolerate poor treatment from others, and hold people accountable when necessary. but by the same token, hold yourself accountable and treat others with the mercy and grace you would have extended to yourself. sending you love & discernment <3

I think those who have skeptical reactions when people attribute character design and casting choices to colorism do so because they think it's like, an extreme thing to accuse. They don't realize how incredibly, totally pervasive it is. I'm only someone who has been paying attention for awhile, not someone who is an expert, but I can't think of a more glaringly omnipresent prejudice. You really only have to have an inkling of how much of the world is just totally open about it without shame to start realizing it's truly everywhere.
I'm not going into detailed examples because I don't feel justified in casually reminding people of things that hurt them directly and not me, and this post isn't really for convincing people who aren't interested in being convinced anyways. It's just to get out what I've been thinking about lately which is how there's a barrier to productive discussions about problems in media from people who view basic analysis as uncomfortable, extreme, threatening, and unreasonably serious. When for a lot of us it's really just cathartic, obvious, reasonable, and interesting.
Of course the online culture of moral posturing and dogpiling creates this view as well, rejecting discourse wholesale isn't an unreasonable defense mechanism when you don't feel capable of navigating these conversations. I definitely did that when I was younger and I was better off for it. There's not a lot of forgiveness for youthful idiocy or inevitable mistakes in general in online spaces.
Unfortunately the offline culture has a very different but sometimes indistinguishable problem of prioritizing privileged comfort over truthful productive address of harm. I think people often assume online that all reluctance to discuss manifestations of structural issues is coming from that place. And often it is! But online is a dangerous space to get things wrong and I think ignoring that and assuming the worst of everyone isn't productive. When there's a preponderance of genuinely out-of-proportion and incredibly hostile posts it can make people jaded and reluctant to take anything on here seriously. Which frankly is their right, since it's not like online posting is any kind of obligation or activism and we have no idea what people may or may not be doing in real life.
I'm DEFINITELY not trying to tell anyone what to think or feel about people being resistant to recognizing colorism in media, that's absolutely not my place or my interest, that's just the specific topic I've been thinking about and seeing the most lately, due to what they've done to Usopp and others in the latest One Piece arc. I just keep thinking of reactions I've seen to the discussion that basically amount to thinking There's No Reason. It's because they see the obvious, only real explanation, and posts pointing it out, as Extreme. Which is very frustrating but also is a behavior that makes sense (not meaning it's right) when you think about it.
It's one of those things that's obvious, inescapable, deeply harmful but factually mundane; that has the difference of a light switch in terms of whether it can be seen or not. Once the light is on it's just impossible to miss. But a lot of people are simply living in the dark. For reasons that reflect badly on our culture, or for reasons that reflect badly on them as people, or both.
It'd be easier to turn the light on if it was less of a big deal to people I think. Like before getting people to accept specific instances of it, first you have to get them to understand how normal it is. It's so, so normal. However that comes with the understanding that a lot of the worst things in the world are normal, and that's why they're the worst. Not just because they're terrible in and of themselves, but because they wield the overwhelming, invisible, sinister power of normalcy.
And that's a level of de-familiarization that tends to make people step back as if from something extreme. It's too perspective-altering to seem reasonable anymore to a certain kind of, normal person.
