Look at all the Nikos! I keep forgetting that they have whiskers, though... darn it. Either way, I love the ones with the Kirby and Magolor, whiskers or not. Y'know, the funny thing is, I only got back into OneShot (I played it for a brief time in 2023 before thinking it was too eerie lol) because it was the featured article on Wikipedia a few months back. Thank you Wikipedia. I would have never fell in love with this game without you.

Also, probably the final Niko sketch of the year, which I'll probably render tonight or tomorrow, is this one.

God I love all of these so much. I know they're not compositionally complex, but I still love them a lot. When I feel really down about my art, I really try to remember that 10-year-old me would be SO jealous of my art right now. Like, nauseous and stuff. I mean, that's what I do now when I see really good art, whether or not it was meant to make me feel that way. Ah, how I haven't grown. Enough about nausea. I love drawing a reasonable amount, it's a great hobby. Hopefully in 2025 I can add the other person that was supposed to go in the Niko pancake sketch.

Drawing is hard but it feels so good to be rewarded by something you can look at. Y'know that feeling, where like you like at your art and are like "I made that? What the hell?" Yeah I felt that way every time I finished one of these. Thank you, if you've been following me, for sticking around to look at my art! It's nice to know that people care about this kind of thing as much as I do.

Next year... god I hope I don't throw away my shot.

This also acts as a behind-the-scenes post, so let's get straight into that, shall we?

MV Project 1 "Darling Dance"

*Cough* Holy freakin' moly does making an MV take so long. Before you roll off your bed, I'll say that part of the reason making the art took so long was because I have trouble drawing Marx consistently.

Here's some unused assets! Look at them, they're all salty over not making the cut.

In all seriousness though, a lot of times I don't really see a lot of editors/ MV makers getting appreciation for their efforts. And now that I've personally experienced making an MV for the first time, it's also increased my admiration to the people who dedicate their time to this! All the kudos to them.

Now, I'll go scene by scene then comment along the way! Spoilers ahead!

Verse 1

Pretty good for what it is. In the first image, you see that heart behind Magolor? I discovered the motion of it on complete accident lol. Capcut is hard to figure out..

I also really like the color palette of 2nd image. That art of Marx was the last one I did during production (aka I drew it this morning), and just look at him. He's such a bastard he's the best.

Pre Chorus 1

Mmmm yeah it sure is the pre chorus! I put a bar behind the text in the middle because I didn't want people to stare into their soulless eyes for too long. That probably worked!

1st Chorus

When I first added in the expression change, I fangirled over it a little on the first rewatch. Like, come on! They suddenly look mischievous, and the color change on the background! I know I drew it but still!

For the rest, I experimented a little with all the "Nah"s! I think it ended up well. Most of the lyric editing in this MV is completely original, so I had a couple of things to try out!

Verse 2

This song is horrifically outdated because it says Twitter instead of X!! (/sarcasm)

This scene is my second favourite. I'm really proud of the details on the tabs and the editing at the beginning! Wish I could put more images but the app only allows ten. Bummer.

Pre Chorus 2

I think it's cute, and I used it as my pfp on YouTube! That's about it though.. image limit is killing me I can't put anything here :(

...Not gonna spoil it! I like how I drew them, but there ain't anything notable. Unless you look at the last image I put right before the bridge. :)

Bridge

This is where my editing comes in freakin' clutch. Ooooooh it's so satisfying to look at. Chef's kiss. Also those Marxs (Marxes?) are really cute.

The second part of the bridge is nice as well! I tried to make the lyrics snap to the rhythm. Glad I added that tv effect in the bg too!

Chorus 3

This scene is my favourite! Wanna know why?

This sequence right here. I think I will etch it into my brain forever... I love me some snappy editing. Like a lot. Like a lot a lot!

The second part of the chorus is like the original song's MV! I loved the hearts popping in and out whoever thought of that is a genius. Putting it into the MV was a good decision!

Is it Kirby?

i love to answer questions (especially about starstruck at the moment bc i've been really into working on her lore lately) so there's never too many!! sometimes i get very hopeful that i'll draw art and it causes some delays, but i do always always love to get them!!

this bit of info:

what she currently wishes she could lose is her weird magical signature, and perhaps even her non-standard appearance; though i think her friends have probably grown to like one or both of these, and might miss them if they were gone. (this would mean a lot to her to hear).

was actually not any kind of hint at anything more significant (unlike a lot of my answers), it's just the folks around her being good friends and just good people in general!

like... the way she looks (different) the way she acts (different) and the way her magical signature feels (different) are all things that make her her. she is scared of them, because they're different. but her friends like her the way she is, so they like those traits too; if she did successfully change them they'd genuinely miss the traits of her that they've come to love*.

bandee is the one who has the biggest uncontrollable reaction to her magical signature, due to being a waddle dee (meta knight, dedede and kirby notice it but aren't as violently squicked by it) but he pushes past it and over time he starts to notice/be bothered by it much less. she does also pick up signature mimicry fairly quickly, so she can 'fake' a different signature if it really was bothering him, though this is sometimes as jarring as her original one if she picks a strong one.

but... you are right, kirby loves that she can do that!

he finds it a little similar to himself; kirby's magic is understandably more flexible than most, though not in the way starstruck's is. he's incredibly magically sensitive so he can hear her magic voice easily, and for him when she tries on different ones it's like doing an impersonation-- he finds it really entertaining and rather enjoys it! often she'll try out new ones on him to see what he thinks.

i don't bring him up enough in her lore, but magolor also actively likes her weird signature; for different reasons.

he finds it fascinating, but without the overbearing aura of 'is that a threat' that meta knight always exudes. he's assisting with trying to puzzle it out with them, but he was one of the first to make her feel like it was a cool and unique ability that she just happened to have, and something that someone could enjoy rather than be scared of.

*want to put a footnote here that this is framed in a positive light. this is not something about her she wants to change for herself (ie; dysphoria) and a change her friends should accept/support rather than 'missing the old her'. her 'weird traits' are something she only feels pressured to change by societal rules and expectations. her friends would support her of course but most importantly: she shouldn't feel she HAS to change just for being a little different. and they love her and think she's perfect as she is.

Hee hee! I'll tell you what, anon, at first, I wasn't sure how to take this comment (something I mentioned on stream) because getting good at drawing feet on the internet is... well...you know!

But given I myself started this by pointing out how bad I was at it with Galacta Knight, I really do appreciate the compliment! Next on my list.... borb hands. I've seen so many people draw Kirby's n-nubs (?) in ways that really make them look so marshmallow-y and fun!

Hello?! That idea of the Star Rod never getting repaired after Shadow Dedede broke it?! Fantastic! Imagine it drying up, and of course, the effects something like that would have on the mirror world!

(Has anyone else stumbled across that gorgeous but haunting series of "bad end" pictures a certain Kirby fan artist did on Twitter? I remember one had Dedede with a dried up Dream Fountain. That's very much what I'm visualizing here!)

Now, I vague~ly recall that there's some debate about the "darkness in his heart" part of the Shadow Dedede pause screen?  That the English version says it is Shadow Dedede who has to overcome his darkness whereas in the original, it is OUR Dedede who has to overcome his "shadow" that being Shadow Dedede.

...But just because it isn't saying that Shadow Dedede is trying to overcome something doesn't mean he doesn't represent a painful mark in both Dedede's histories. And such a "mistake" (unknown at the time) is an excellent possibility!

Lastly, thank you! The steady influx of lore and theories everyone drops into my inbox reminds me of my favorite parts of fandom in the old days and is a major treat!

This is NEAT! While they may not have known about each other in the past, you bring up a great point that after so many games, these various planets (dimensions? in the case of Fluff) are forging bonds with each other. Everyone likes the Galactic Star Alliance from the anime, right? What's interesting is that we kind of have a basis for such an "alliance" forming in our current Kirby-game verse!

Kirby has helped these monarchs get in contact with each other, becoming a link across multiple planets. So I think the idea of them getting together and talking now, in the present~post-game of Forgotten Land is a possibility! Let each other know if any suspicious activity is happening or if everyone is still doing all right.

Although that reminds me of something that came up in the stream... Since King Dedede is the "self-proclaimed" ruler of Dream Land... is there an ACTUAL ruler of Dream Land/Popstar waiting in the wings? Waiting for their return? Or sealed away even? (D-Dark Nebula, is that you?)

Either way, a meeting between those 5 sounds both intense and fun! I would love to come back to this idea with a sketch or illustration of some kind!

(I'm also sorry in case I did in fact answer it in the past and can't find it - because Tumblr's search is really unreliable. If I repeat myself here, I'm sorry. If not and this turns out to be relevant...great!)

Frankly, I would love to see all kinds of soul lore expanded upon in future games. Partly because I have my headcanons as to why Sectonia/Pres. Haltmann died for realz versus why Marx and Magolor came back and if we get more tidbits, I can come closer to completing my conspiracy corkboard!!

(As well as figure out just where Drawcia lays in the current state of "canon." And maybe figure out some stuff about Zero, Zero 2 and the Dark Matters and what happened to them!)

On the one hand, I feel like Void did a rea~lly bang up job at feeling like you were battling the soul of Kirby. Or at least "a Kirby." I mean, seeing Kirby's face appear on Void, with all those childish movement patterns and that smile before defeat?

But Void was also composed of a variety of thoughts and feelings, so it wasn't exactly our Kirby. Then we've got the Shadow Kirby battles in Kirby Fighters 2, which also come somewhat close in concept, as you're fighting someone with the same ability set as you. That would be another good way to do it, I think.

But it still doesn't quite scratch that itch, does it? ... Now, I feel silly that I can't remember if this is a real thing or I'm just combining a bunch of games in my head (I-I may be old but I'm decades away from the point where I should have to fear being senile!!) but watching some Castlevania longplays... there was a part of one of the games where you go through one of the old castles, right? Maybe it wasn't in black and white, but it is in my memories.

And Kirby had a part like that too, in one of the games! At least, I think it did...? (Okay, maybe I AM going senile...)

:cough: That aside, something like those visuals above when combined with the feelings evoked by the 8-bit nostalgia portion of Void Termina's The Star Conquering Traveler Suite...

I can only imagine it would be sad. Maybe it would involve some kind of sacrifice or some kind of origin story. A time-travel game even? Something that takes us back to our favorite hero's beginnings. Despite it inevitably being THE penultimate fight, I can't picture it being a big dramatic battle so much as one of those interactive cutscenes, or something with never-seen-before-now gameplay elements. But it would feel like a true goodbye to the Kirby series. Oh, it might be able to continue on past that, just like things didn't end after the Star Allies completion picture either.

...But expect a lot of fears (and tears!) of something happening when it finally did.

Personally, I can't help but think Kirby's Soul would look like Retro Kirby or Popopo from Twinkle Popo. It might not even be called "Kirby's Soul" but have a more archetypical name like "Soul of a Traveler" or "Soul of Youth."

Another super old one. Gah, me and my slowness... The sad thing is, I had nine~ty percent of this written out a while ago but just didn't know how to finish it. I'm so sorry about that, @vexx-ation !

It was a really good ask though and I'm glad I gave it another shot. Now then, I think that in large part, this would boil down to who was most harmed by those characters and in what ways!

[Dark Meta Knight]

Dark Meta Knight is the biggest mystery because... DMK refuses (or can't) talk to anyone so we know nothing about his feelings. And we don't even know how he returned the first time after death (?)

Meta Knight is the one DMK has arguably hurt the most (excluding maybe Kirby) but I feel like Meta Knight is also the one who needs nothing from DMK to understand forgive them. It really all depends on where Dark Meta Knight is coming from. Was DMK a willing agent in Dark Mind's takeover? Then Meta Knight would be more hard on/untrusting of his shadow for certain. But being his mirror counterpart, I think he would take it as a sign of something lacking in himself. That he is only one step away from making such a turn. But if you, like me, think that the placement of certain objects and events in Amazing Mirror (Radish Ruins as DMK's "stage" and Shadow Kirby showing up one last time before you face off against DMK) are indicative that something more subtle is going on, Meta Knight may not even require an apology from DMK at all. Either DMK was manipulated or was attempting to manipulate the situation in the Mirror World's favor. In which case Meta would just silently nod and go on with his day.

Then there's King Dedede, who, at least in his own parallel mode, was seemingly attacked at random by DMK. That certainly puts them off on a wrong start, but I also think that Dedede would be able to eventually laugh it off and compare it some of his Meta Knight's more belligerent actions in the past (something that would probably fluster Meta Knight, as he wouldn't expect that comparison, mirror counterpart or no.) IE: I find it hard to believe the guy with a wrestling ring in his castle would hold an ambush against somebody for long, especially as he won.

It would take Bandee probably a bit to come to terms with the scary version of someone he most likely respects, but DMK has his cute (?) side too (like in his idle animation) so I think Bandee could come to accept DMK, especially after both Meta Knight and Dedede express that they no longer hold any hard feelings toward the dark knight.

Kirby would probably be the closest thing to a "holdout" here, only because Dark Meta DID ambush two of his friends (depending on the timelines) and he'd want to know that's not going to happen again. Afterwards though? DMK's right to be a part of the group is never questioned again!

[Susie]

Susie... ahhh, Susie. Let's just note that all the classic Susie discourse disclaimers go here and remind everyone once more that they're on a Susie-friendly blog and to some of you, what I am going to say may come off as being exceptionally "light" on Susie's crimes. It is what it is, however. If you want a brutal takedown of Susie, there are dozens of other blogs who will give it, I am certain. I can only go in-depth on things from my view of my Kirby-verse.

In random order: Bandee was the only one to not be incapacitated for large chunks of Planet Robobot's story and I believe that were the game to be remade in the modern style (or even had it been released on more powerful hardware than the 3DS) Bandee would have been a second player character just like in Forgotten Land. And if we assume that of him, then we can assume Bandee would have been exposed to Susie's entire plotline same as Kirby.

Bandee is, at least in the novel-verse (and it's not a bad HC in general) the most empathetic member of the Dream Team. Bandee can sympathize with and care about just about anyone. And Bandee might have been wondering if there was something going on with Susie before even Kirby started to see the cracks in the secretary's facade of corporate perfection.

While Bandee wouldn't like the things she, her father, and the HWC have done to Popstar, I think that once he sees where she's come from, his own anger would be tempered down. That everything reverts at the end (ironic (?) that everything is almost "magically healed" except the Haltmann's shattered family bonds) would be enough of a relief for Bandee that I think he could move on to looking at Susie as just a person. (And isn't he the one in the novel who gives her the pocketwatch back or am I mis-remembering that?)

I actually think Susie "as a friend" could be more intimidating to Bandee that Susie as an enemy. She's a sympathetic enemy. As a friend, she might be a considered too "extra" for the small warrior Dee! XD

On that note...I don't know why, but in most cases, I just see King Dedede as being very forgiving toward people in trouble. Oh, he will grumble about it to no end! But I don't see him EVER hurting anyone while they're down.

Of course, Dedede was also unconscious for 99% of Planet Robobot. Was he even awake when his DNA was stolen? Does he know? I mean, not knowing wouldn't be great at all, but I can't help but think that more than being harvested and bottled, his biggest concern, just based on his priorities, would be that his castle got destroyed AGAIN. Why can't the poor man keep a castle?! He didn't even do anything this time!! (Even the Halberd made it!) So, yeah, imagine a confrontation with Susie and Dedede and Susie tries to imagine all the things Dedede is going to call her out for and no, he's just upset about his castle getting wrecked. Susie is surprised he even cares about that "dinky, dusty old thing" and thus, a shouting match begins.

But again, I don't think it would last for too long. I think the things Dedede and Susie would clash on would be petty things. Dedede is pretty manly in his interests and Susie is very girly. They're blue and pink, even. I think Dedede would forget or just plain ol' not care about Susie's more "human rights" crimes and make MOUNTAINS out of the little things. Although they do share a love of machinery, and that might be something that would bring peace to the VERY petty disagreements. At least until Susie chastises Dedede for using "old parts" while Dedede goes on an old man rant about how those old parts are three times as reliable as all this easy to break new stuff! (Dedede is the equivalent of the guy who put his first car together by hand. Susie is the "born plugged in" type.) So, yes, they fight, but not for the reasons you think. ^^;

...As for Meta Knight, I think countless paragraphs have already been written on these two and most people know where I fall about now. Meta Knight, whether we saw it happen on screen or not, was able to figure out what Susie's deal was faster than anyone else, and while he didn't care for having his autonomy stolen (not to mention, I can't imagine he liked all the bulk of his un-asked for cybernetic upgrades. Mecha Knight is a tank. A stark contrast to Meta Knight's fast "here and away" style.) But if anyone in the entire FRANCHISE understands that sometimes your morals take a backseat for your goals, it would be him and now that the dust has cleared and the HWC was on the losing side with Susie as it's sole survivor (speaking brutally) there's no reason to be angry with her anymore. That said, I believe that, much like happens in the fandom, Meta Knight probably gets questioned fairly often (by people who know) if he's upset at Susie, with some not believing its possible he wouldn't be. But I really think to him, it's just something that happens when you're pushed into a corner.

What Meta Knight would care about is not what Susie has done in her past (to him) but what she does now.

...That said, I think he will find an "excuse" to be somewhere else when she looks at him with stars in her eyes and a wrench in her hand. (I am a firm believer that the Star Allies scene is meant to be taken comically, not seriously. I have nothing against Mecha Knight unwanted modification angst but that scene should not be your sole "proof" such a thing exists.)

And of course, as for Kirby, Kirby has already accepted Susie. He ran to her side when she was injured. He agreed with her request to stop Star Dream, and he accepted her invader armor. There's nothing else to forgive. Acceptance is freely given.

Lastly...

[Marx]

Marx is the silly one. Very silly. I think, on my first draft of this post (I made the choice to write it again from scratch rather than base it on my previous version, so that it was up to date with my current feelings) I took the concept of Marx and forgiveness very seriously, but then I booted up Star Stacker (SNES) again and remembered that the story began because one day, Dedede saw a sparkling star flying through the sky and decided, "I'm gonna shoot it with a cannon!" So, in case this needs to be restated...

The people of Dream Land are absolutely buck wild.

Probably, due to the comparisons with his spiritual successor Magolor, there's been a casual attempt to try and make a bigger deal out of the "ship in a bottle" events of Milky Way Wishes.

I don't want to be a hypocrite here. I'm a huge fan of "Let's try to expand on Marx's backstory, personality, and motivations using every tiny scrap we've got" and I do so relatively shamelessly. I love the idea that there might have been buckets and buckets of angst and pathos behind his decision to trick Kirby into bringing Galactic Nova into Popstar's orbit so he could kick our beloved puffball into the darkness of space and wish to make the planet his own...

...but do I think that those acts in a vacuum are on the same scale as what all the other big, bad, last bosses have done?

Not really.

Well, not like the modern villains. Marx is a bit more like Dark Meta Knight or Daroach in the breadth of his bad guy-ness. His act harmed very few people in practice. It could have gone on to harm more eventually, had it succeeded. It might have even been devastating! Similar to if Dark Mind's reach was allowed to expand into the peaceful non-Mirror Popstar. Or if Dark Daroach went on to rule as the second coming of the Lord of the Netherworld!

But... it wasn't. The clown's dreams lasted only a few brief minutes. To the people on the surface, Nova exploding probably looked like no more than a shooting star. ("Everyone make a wish!")

...The only person Marx needs forgiveness from, then, is Kirby. And that is the story of several hundred different fanfics and fan theories and frankly, I enjoy all of them because the ~potential~ dynamic these two characters share is one of my favorite things in the series.

And, leaving the "middle" of that journey for we, the fan creators to come up with, I believe we can at least say that, in the end, the two seem to have made up successfully.

...Now, there's still the question of would the rest of the Dream Team LIKE Marx or forgive him upon hearing what he did! I think Meta Knight would be wary of him for a lot of reasons. He's unexpected and uncontrollable. He hopped in to attack the group during the Star Allies credit sequence. But Meta Knight also (in an alternate timeline) thought wishing on Galactic Nova for a ridiculously selfish wish was a perfectly sane thing to do so I gather he would have little issue with Marx's ambitions, if not his actions. And as for his attempted murder of Kirby, Meta Knight is :cough: also guilty of that so yeahhhh. Maybe he doesn't LOVE the jester's antics or even tolerate them, but he wouldn't decry them from a moral high ground...?

I personally love the idea that King Dedede is headache-inducingly familiar with Marx. I like the idea that Marx might have even gotten his title of "jester" thanks to King Dedede. According to the Dedede Encyclopedia entries on twitter, Dedede had no idea about Marx's attempted takeover of Popstar nor did he know about Marx's "true form." Thus, it's easy to imagine that to Dedede, Marx is nothing more than another cute, silly resident of Dream Land, like the Waddle Dees. He may even treat Marx with the same paternal kindness he gives the Waddle Dees. At least until Marx goes a step too far!

TLDR, I love the version of their relationship as implied in the Kirby Storybooks, where Marx is one of "those troublesome kids" who teams up with Kirby to play harmless pranks on Dedede. It's so crazy wholesome, something that you can't always say about Marx!

...Lastly, Bandee... Oh, empathetic little Bandee. I feel like Bandee would probably be the one to eye Marx the most critically. Because Bandee has eyes on the ground level to NOT be fooled like Dedede nor so extreme that he can't hold Marx accountable like Meta Knight. I think Bandee is probably the closest to Kirby in seeing Marx for who Marx really is, but doesn't have the "complex" relationship Kirby and Marx does that inspires Kirby to forgive him no matter what he does.

Not that I think they fight or don't get along, necessarily. (In fact, the sudden spike (?) in MarDee - am I spelling that right? - shippers has rekindled my interesting in their dynamic) But I do think that while Marx is giving everyone his "Who? Meeee?" eyes, Bandee is off on the side giving Marx a narrow-eyed look of "You don't fool me."

But again, I think that honesty may be something that could turn into a kind of closeness they don't have with others! Plus, biased, but I also completely love, love, love the idea that the one Waddle Dee who is tired of being "just a Waddle Dee" and the one Noddy who is tired of being "just a Noddy" have an understanding that none of the naturally over-powered residents of Popstar can ever understand.

It's possible to write them as rivals or enemies. These two, quite frankly, could be very cool together in a variety of ways!

Also I love to see you and a ton of people find inspiration in me, especially when it comes to them enjoying my version of Marx because guess what. He’s a reflection of me and my experiences irl.

The realization Castella is a more common word than I thought and I have essentially poisoned at least a hundred if not a thousand minds so that every time they see the word Castella they think of a orb makes me kick my legs and giggle.

But Castella would like cheesecake, I think New-York Style would be her favorite type.

Nightmare isn’t Metaknight’s creator, but his influence did have a hand in Metaknight’s creation. Nightmare and his overall power was around waiting in the shadows, and a passing nebula gathered the positive energy from Popstar as well as some of Nightmare’s strange negative energy, giving way to Metaknight’s birth on a nearby planet. So Metaknight is a Light matter being with some of Nightmare’s power in him.

Magolor’s curse tattoos are from the Master Crown which were applied to his body after his initial defeat via Kirby. So the dude literally had to claw his way through Magolor Epilogue with this curse on his body.

I really liked Magolor Eplilogue, it has a good story to explain how Magolor got back to Dreamland as well as some extra hints of lore we haven’t gotten. I enjoy the challenge and how I actually needed to grind if I wanted to beat the final two bosses. And unlike a lot of people’s opinions I’ve seen , the ending is great. It’s one of those “happy but not in the stereotypical happy ending way as there’s still more to conquer” endings. Sadly there was no Marx though, which I was hoping he’d cameo in the epilogue, so a good 8/10 or 8.5/10 for me.

When a Dark Matter being reaches a certain amount of power they do grow into beings like Zero, however to me and in the event of Nextgen Zero2 is a Soul form of Zero, similar to Drawica soul or Marx Soul.

Yep! I’m alive! And I I will continue to be active on this account with Kirby stuff. I may kinda fall off once I graduate from college (which will happen either in 2025 or 2026) considering that’s my jump into real adulthood but that’s a while from now.

You should spill the beans about your Magolor and how his hair and veins start changing when he gets the crown 👀

Ohhhh thank you anon!!

So the way I see it, and I guess it was confirmed in deluxe, the crown is a parasite, and Magolor is the host. The longer he keeps it on, the more he's drained. Since I love his EX colour scheme (and I adore drawing white hair), here's my excuse for having it be in his story..

His hair starts to go white first, the crown drains the pigment. Magolor blames it on stress of course.. ruling everything is hard work. People didn't really think much of this change- they think it's either a stylistic choice, or he's just aging/ going grey early.

Then his finger tips turn a deep red (which eventually turn into that dark blue/green Magolor Soul is). Magolor always wears gloves, but now he was even more careful about showing his bare hands around people. He kind of just ignores this too, when he takes off his gloves, he never looks at his hands. Until he catches them in the mirror and sees this dark red crawling up his veins. Again, Magolor is always super covered up, so he isn't concerned about other people seeing all of this.

Until!

It spreads to his neck and face.. the only bit of his skin that's visible. He doesn't notice this, he had stopped looking at himself in the mirror at this point. A few people ask if he's unwell, that's when he decides to take a look for himself, and, well, he's horrified. It's here when he starts to regret taking the crown, he knows that's what is causing all of this. So, he takes it off, but doesn't get rid of it. Or step down.

He keeps returning to the crown, he keeps wearing it in public. Even though he knows it's damaging him, he feels as though he still needs it.

By now his hair is completely white, his veins are all sorts of creepy looking, and his eyes are this intense pink. If people weren't afraid of him before, they were now. Knowing this only makes him feel good about the situation.

This is why he makes the effort to change the colours of his clothing.. I like to think he had his clothes in the EX colours already, but he just didn't wear them (❁´◡`❁)

So there! All this takes place over a pretty long period of time, it isn't instantaneous. After the crown is gone, he still has the veins and white hair, though as he beings to heal, the veins fade and his hair rows back brown! For a while and then by that point he's probably going to start to go grey naturally (✿◡‿◡)

As promised, an actual response to this amazing comic and the great letter underneath it!

First, for the comic:

I love it! I adore how you interpreted “Sectonia” and especially her eyes. It just radiates with something that goes far beyond mere hatred or anguish. Black abyss except for small dots that pierce through your mortal flesh. It has such an otherworldly vibe that fits that surreal moment nature so perfectly. Also, the way “Taranza” (or the representation of his self-loathing and depression) seems to hatch from the wasp queen like if it was a chrysalid, body all inky and black- *chef kiss*

It captures perfectly in images how it was Taranza's own insecurities and self imposed misery that clouded his vision!

And the way you drew Taranza! I recognize a bit of @nokk0‘s lovely interpretation of his outfit in this comic, and you made our favorite spider so expressive (especially with his upper eyes). He goes from anger to sadness to numbness… and finally joy when he finds Magolor again (I like how Magolor’s calls slowly reach him after the whole experience to snap him out, and how Taranza never lets go of his top hat). Seeing Taranza’s memories of his friends was a special treat.

Impossible to point out a favorite panel, they’re all perfect, but I have a particular fondness for the one where Taranza looks at his reflection. It is exactly what I was trying to describe in the story: he looks at himself, all tired, a bit melancholic and worn out from what happened… but now, it’s really him that looks back: him, and his flaws, and his qualities. Taranza is whole again.

The whole comic was perfect, and I’m honored that my story inspired you to take time and draw all of this. It means a lot to me.

Secondly, for the letter at the end:

Again, I’m genuinely honored that you liked A Wonderful Attraction, and my other Kirby stories. I wanted to say that it is good that you took some creative liberties! That is what I (personally) love the most! Seeing people having their own interpretations of the scenes and the outfits!

Each panel of your comic filled me with such happiness and giddiness! I love your style and the emotions you managed to paint on these little characters’ faces.

It feels also good to see that I apparently succeeded in making secondary characters interesting. I always tried to develop Susie, Marx and Lor because while the ship is the focus, it would fill hollow if they were mere wallpaper on the narrative background. Reading that my fanfic have your favourite characterizations of them gave me a serotonin boost. 

It’s a bit hard to write since English isn’t my native language, so it’s double the work. I write the paragraphs in french, and then I have to brainstorm to find metaphors or specific words that will fit the english language. I always was afraid that it was showing too much in my work.

As for what will happen after A Wonderful Attraction: I will try to write for other fandoms (Metroid, Bug Fables perhaps?) for a bit. I feel like publishing another Magoranza fanfic only weeks after the ending of this one would be a bit too much. I want the finale to sting a little, give weight to the fact that it is the last page of this story… or at least, it will be for a while. I have small ideas for new fanfics taking place with the gay wizards (however they’ll be far much smaller).

i hope you enjoyed it!!! it gets a little rough around the edges towards the end-- but i hope that can be forgiven LOL. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read the original fanfic by the wonderful Rainyk (@rainykthebroken)!!! it's a fantastic work that i couldn't hope to capture with this little comic of mine :) to rainyk: i hope this comic was able to instill in you even a fraction of the joy that i got reading not just AWA, but your other Kirby works as well!! im sorry if i couldn't fully capture it as you envisioned, drawing is hard and i had to take a few creative liberties for a comic (>n< '') !! i wanted to put this short footnote for you because as someone who is not just an artist but a writer, i find that written works are often gone less noticed / less praised, and i wanted to make sure to share mine with you!! while reading AWA, i was deeply captured by your extremely beautiful and descriptive writing style- i could almost picture the scenes you were painting down to details, and your use of metaphors throughout the story had me genuinely close to tears a couple of times LOL. your characterizations of the entire kirby cast show such a deep understanding of the characters, especially within the main 4 (+lor...) that genuinely helped shape how i view them myself. they are by and large my favourite characterizations of them period-- theyre filled with such nuance and interesting development, and most importantly you gave time for all of them to develop with the other characters, instead of just focusing on the ship!! when i first read that your native language wasn't english, i was so shocked!! you honestly could have fooled me LOL. your writing showed such a deep understanding of the language art i found myself mulling over some of my favorite lines for way too long (><''). to end this long note off, i just wanted to say that since AWA is coming to an end- for my own selfish purposes, i honestly hope you'll continue with more Kirby works, or more works in this 'timeline' even, since i fell in love with these characters so deeply i'm almost broken to have to let them go -- BWAHAH. but i also believe you have a great talent that i know you can take very far from reading what i have- so i will be excited for whatever it is you decide to write next, even if that isn't kirby!! ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ i hope that you enjoyed my little work in tribute of yours!! The Town of Light was still. It was the middle of the night, and all of the aristocrats were sleeping peacefully. There wasn’t a single person to be found on the streets, but behind one large mansion, two people were hiding. Meta Knight and Daroach whispered to each other.

"I was surprised when I read your letter. No way, the gear is in Fugo's mansion? Why?" 

"This town has changed a lot from its beginnings," Meta Knight responded. "I did some research. This area used to be a temple. It was an unpopular site, so it was a convenient place to hide the gear."

"A temple? How ironic that a rich mansion now sits here," Daroach grinned. "I can’t believe a clue to the gears just came and knocked on your door. Honestly, is it okay to trust this Magolor guy? I’m not sure about him."

"I agree. His story is too good to be true, but there are no other leads. We have no choice but to believe him. Let’s go."

Daroach took out a grappling hook and latched it onto the high wall surrounding Mr. Fugo’s mansion. He climbed the rope gracefully. Meta Knight watched with admiration.

"As expected from an experienced thief. You have great skill."

"You shouldn’t be so impressed, already. The show’s just started."

Meta Knight climbed the wall as well and landed in the garden. Daroach looked up at the towering mansion.

"Now the question is, just where in this huge mansion is the gear?" 

"Is there a strategy?"

"Of course. Watch." Daroach whistled low and short. Out of nowhere, small creatures appeared and gently gathered around him. There were about twenty in all. Meta Knight blinked.

"What are these guys ... "

"My highly skilled subordinates, the Squeakers. Meta Knight, hand me the magic eye drops." 

"Uh, okay ... "

Meta Knight handed him the vial. Daroach crouched down and began distributing the eye drops to each of the Squeakers, one-by-one. Their eyes were so small that only the smallest amount was needed. Once all of them had their eyes dropped, Daroach whispered something in a low voice. The Squeakers nodded and ran all at once towards the mansion.

"They’re perfect for this job. They can go anywhere, don't make footsteps, nor leave a trace. Fugo wouldn’t even notice if they ran laps around his bedroom." 

"I see ... it's true ... " Meta Knight was deeply impressed from the bottom of his heart. 

Daroach put his hand on his red, silk top hat and spoke in a pretentious voice. "’Get treasure the smart way.’ That’s how the Squeak Squad does it."

After a while, the Squeakers returned. They surrounded Daroach and told him several things in high-pitched voices. Daroach bent over, listened, and nodded.

"Okay, the gear is in the kitchen on the north side of the mansion."

"Kitchen ...? "

"Apparently it’s floating near the ceiling above the countertop. Oh, and one more—the Squeakers found something interesting."

"What?" 

"I'll tell you later. First, the gear." Daroach started running towards the mansion, however, all of the mansion’s windows were protected by state-of-the-art security.

"How will we get inside?" Meta Knight asked. Daroach put a hand on the frame.

"The window is already open."

It was just as he said. The window opened without a sound. Daroach turned to Meta Knight, who was staring wide-eyed. "The Squeakers are excellent. This is a cakewalk for them."

"As expected from the Squeaks."

The two entered the kitchen. They used the last of the magic eye drops and looked up towards the ceiling. 

"That's it." A beautiful, sparkling gear hovered where Daroach pointed.

"Even though it's shining so brightly, no one’s noticed it until now ... " Meta Knight murmured.

"Without the eye drops, it can’t be seen."

"Ancient magic really is mysterious." 

Daroach gently jumped onto the counter and grabbed it.

"See, this is the magical gear." They stared at it. 

"What beautiful, mysterious brilliance. A work of art that can never be made with modern technology ... " Meta Knight said. Daroach squeezed the gear tightly.

"Oh, it’d look lovely in my collection."

"Collection? Don't you want to expose Fugo’s wrongdoings?" 

"Of course I do. After revealing everything, I just want to have this gear in my room, I mean. Do you want the gear, too? We can settle it with a game of rock-paper-scissors."

"I'm fine. I just want to know what Fugo is planning to do with the ancient machine." 

Daroach stowed the gear in his hat. "By the way, what about Magolor? Doesn’t he want the prize?"

"Oh. I'll pay Magolor a thank-you in Point Stars. The gear was found because of his information."

"You’re generous, as always ... Then, it's time to move on to the next job."

"Next job?"

"I told you earlier—the Squeakers found something interesting. It seems there’s a hidden room on the second floor of the mansion."

"A hidden room?"

"Yep, a dead ringer for nefarious activity. There may be clues about the ancient machine in there. Let's go."

The pair left the kitchen and proceeded down the corridor silently. Daroach lit a small lantern to illuminate the dark, and a number of expensive paintings emerged. They covered the walls on either side of the hallway. The frames, made of solid gold, were embedded with diamonds, rubies, and various other jewels, like emeralds, that sparkled in the flickering light.

"What is this awful taste!" Daroach laughed. "The beautiful paintings of flowers and landscapes have been ruined. The glamour of the frames overtakes them." 

"For Fugo, it's not about the beauty of the paintings. It's about showing off how rich you are."

"Ha. The kind of person I hate the most." The two quietly climbed the stairs, passed several rooms, and headed towards the back of the hallway. Daroach opened the door of the farthest room and went inside. It was a small room with a bookshelf along one wall—a reading room. As far as one could tell, there was nothing strange about it.

"Where is the hidden room ...? " Meta Knight looked around. Daroach walked over to the bookshelf. 

"It's behind this. The Squeakers saw the hidden room from a narrow space in the attic, but we can't see it from here." 

"What are we going to do?" 

"There should be a way to move it ... Wait a minute." Daroach peered up at the bookshelf in the light of the lantern. "All of these books are shiny as if they’re brand new. There's no sign of them being read ... Oops, but this book has been removed and put back into place so many times the letters on the spine are faint." 

"Is that the switch?" 

"Oh, not just one book. Here ... here, also ... " Daroach pulled out the worn books in order. There was a rattling noise, and the bookshelf began to rotate slowly. Meta Knight was surprised.

"There’s such a trick hidden in the bookshelf ...!? "

"To have something so exaggerated to hide something ... This guy is up to no good." Meta Knight and Daroach entered the small, secret room behind the shelf. Documents covered a small table and a safe sat in the corner of the room. Meta Knight picked up several papers and examined them.

"It's about the ancient machine. There are pictures taken from various angles ... What a strange shape. Even though it's a machine, it looks like a face. Big eyes ... cat-like ... It’s creepy, and a lot bigger than I imagined!" Meta Knight couldn't hide his excitement. "This ... This is a testimony from when the ancient machine was discovered! What, what ... ‘While digging in the diamond mine’ ... ‘I discovered a huge machine’ ... "

While Meta Knight looked at the documents, Daroach turned his attention towards the safe. 

"The important treasure is always in the safe. It's common sense." He knelt in front of it and took out one of the seven thieves' tools: a stethoscope. He then put the diaphragm of the stethoscope on the safe and turned the dial lock little-by-little. A soft tick could be heard when he matched a correct number.

"Three on the right ........ Seven ..... Two on the left ....... Eight ... One also on the right ....... Good." There was a clicking noise and the safe opened. At that exact moment, an alarm rang loud enough it shook the mansion. 

"Oops!" Daroach caught his tongue. "I wasn't careful enough. There was an alarm in the safe."

"We need to go, Daroach!" 

"Oh." Daroach grabbed the photo in the safe. The building filled with noise and footsteps approached.

"Thieves! Thieves have invaded!"

"Upstairs! Hurry up!" 

The two hurried back into the reading room.  

"What do we do, Daroach!? We can't escape from the hallway!" 

"This way ...! " Daroach pushed open a large window facing the garden. "Meta Knight, can you jump?"

"Of course." 

"Then, let’s go!" They jumped out of the window. Right as they did, the doors opened and guards rushed in.

"They went out the window!" 

"Capture them—!" A large number of guards leaped out and followed them into the garden.

"Jeez! Why are there so many of them!?" Daroach exclaimed.

"Daroach, I'll take care of this. You run away."

"What are you saying? It’ll be the opposite." He pushed the stolen photo against Meta Knight. "You are an aristocrat. It’ll be big news if you’re caught. Take this and leave it to me!" 

"But ...! "

"Do what I say. When it comes to heists, I’m a veteran."

" ..... Alright," Meta Knight nodded. "I'm sorry, Daroach. I leave it to you!" 

"Go, quickly!"

Meta Knight turned sharply.

"One of the thieves is getting away! Catch them!" 

The guards sprinted until suddenly, Daroach blocked their path. He spread his bright red cloak and tipped his brim.

"Come on, you lot! I am your opponent!" They were all hypnotized by Daroach’s majestic appearance, illuminated under the light of the moon, and quickly forgot about Meta Knight running away.

"There, the thief! Catch the thief!" The guards attacked all at once. Daroach flew through the air and evaded their attacks.

"Hahaha! Slow, slow! You all lack training!" 

"This——!" 

"Hahahaha!" He flitted around and continued to draw their attention. The guards grew exhausted chasing him. One person, after another, and another, began to drop, until—

"Ah ... ah ... aughhhhhh ...! " The last person finally collapsed. Daroach shrugged.

"I’m sorry. Next time, do better! Try to keep up!" The bandit jumped from the earth and soared high into the air. He disappeared into the night.

Wednesday Answering the bingo all once under the cut!

It’s really cute! In my own little silly “headcanon” story of how the events of the games/universe go, I actually do consider the idea of Fluff crushing on Kirby considerably during their time together, and still does. my interpretation of Fluff is very... soft, to say, he’s innocent (unaware) and would act romantically in a prince-ly kind of way, idealistic, like a fairy tale. He invited Kirby to his family’s ballroom ((((*Thinks really hard about Utena ost*)))) Still, I’m not really multishipper, so It will always be one sided. He despises Marx for this but also for more and more things. Literally counterparts. Fish in the pool. The waltz of light blue~ 

FUNNIEST shit I’ve ever seen, makes me consider MK even for a little, I bet Dark Meta Knigh is the kind of man that flirts during a duel just to get his partner on their nerves, and with Meta knight he simply never shuts the fuck up nor is only when they are fighting “you wanna kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid”. Dameta once drew him unconsciously, much to think about I think that, if Mk wasn’t my least favourite character, i would like them (I dont hate him or anything, he’s cool and has a great design, but thats all for me) Ah, way too cheesy... Awawawa I’ve already talked about them! Maybe I miss the wave 3 gang, I haven’t done much about... And MaoRanza is also cute- I’d say Honeymoon Un Deux Trois (DongDang version) but it’s way too... perfect, I like their imperfections, so let’s say Wednesday by Tori Amos (mostly the melody, suprisingly hard to find a good song for them)

Daroach and Magolor?  Daroach is flirty by nature, but classy, Magolor’s a whore; Daro wouldn’t really respect him and Mago’s annoying so funnys ensues Despite that, I like that they both are quite similar while completely different, Magolor is full of himself and Daroach may love the riches but loves even more his people, so, combining the clash of ideals with similar objetives gives space to a more serious dive idk id draw something edgy Red and Blue mmh? OKAY SO LIKE I GOT THIS ONE DONE REAL FAST BUT IM SUPER HAPPY WITH IT??!! Anyway here’s kirbs (:

Info about them and their place in the galactic crisis au under the cut!!

Here’s my general hcs for them!

-Kirby’s about 6 or 7 in this ref (except the two with the yellow backgrounds, we’ll get to those...). A small child, but a good child (:

-Since they’re a child, they’re only about 4’ tall, and will definitely be taller than meta when they’re older

-Speaking of which! They get moth wings when they’re older. Also they have paws because all of my puff gijinkas have them! The knights just like to keep them hidden since they make holding swords really hard...

-They were raised mostly on their own until meta knight stepped up and started taking care of him. And then dedede. And then they became a family ((::

-Because of the brief period in their life where they didn’t have a parental figure, they become VERY attached to anyone who shows them kindness (which, to be fair is just about anyone), especially his parents. They love meta knight and dedede so very much, and sometimes gets really anxious when away from them.

-If either of them are possessed, Kirby gets really distressed. It brings them a vague, forgotten pain from their past.

-Kirby hates sleeping alone. Despite having their own room, they often sneak in to sleep with dedede and meta. Well “”sneak in””. They’re not as sneaky as they think.

-Kirby’s fine with any pronouns really. Out of respect, and encouragement to define themself, most people use they/them for Kirbs. Very chill little dude

-Kirby is such a happy little kid. Like, this kid can bring joy to even the most depraved soul. They just love to make people happy, since they’re always happy too!!

-Well, mostly. Even as a well behaved kid, Kirby has their moments for sure. They still have a lot to learn socially and manners wise, and usually they only have outbursts when they can’t eat something, can’t have something shiny, or is asked to calm down their incredibly energetic and expressive demeanor. They also get really fucking mad if someone hurts their friends or family and will not hesitate to obliterate them. Kirby can be..surprisingly ruthless sometimes. But only sometimes (:

-It’s very hard to tell them no. They have puppy eyes like nobody else. And will possibly offer to make you something depending on how badly they want it.

-Despite being really young, they’re way more emotionally intelligent than most of the cast of the series.

-Kirby trusts just about anyone, and believes in the good in every single person! Even someone like Magolor, they refuse to give up on. They just want to bring good into the world ;v;

-They love drawing and making art, even if they don’t have the greatest motor skills yet. Anybody who gets a certified Kirby piece is blessed.

-Kirby loves space!! It’s hard for them to float all the way up there so meta takes them up there as a treat (:

-Kirby has vague memories of their first 2 years of life, but it’s muddled and usually comes to them through confusing dreams about a certain pink clad knight.

And here’s where the story for the galactic crisis au picks up (:<

-Kirby is Void Termina’s opposite..so basically if the user of the Jamba Heart had a pure, happy wish!

-And that’s exactly what happened! Galacta Knight was the first to get close to the Jamba Heart after its hurried completion and sealing..basically before it could get sealed, his wish for a peaceful, happy universe (and admittedly, his desires for a family) manifested as Kirby.

-Therefore, Galacta Knight is technically Kirby’s father (:

-The unfortunate thing about being so close to the Jamba Heart as a Non-Jambandran, though, was that Galacta became corrupted by the Jamba Heart. More specifically, he became corrupted by what would have been, and would later be, Void Termina. Kirby acted as a foil to this though, and often kept him sane; neither of them realized this, however. Especially since Kirby was essentially an infant at this point.

-War broke out with the sealing of the Jamba Heart, and Galacta went into hiding with his little family of Morpho and Kirby.

-The two raised Kirby in secret and on the run from the Jambandrans and Halcandrans. At this point, Galacta was a wanted man. The Halcandrans blamed him for the outbreak of the war, and the Jambandrans were still convinced he was a Halcandran “super weapon”.

-Side note, since Kirby was raised by two puffballs (Galacta and Morpho), they eventually took the form of one later in life.

-After about 2 years of this, things went horribly wrong, resulting in the loss of Morpho Knight, and the breaking of Galacta’s fragile calm.

-He revealed himself for reasons I’ll explain in Morpho’s ref, causing both sides to immediately go after him.

-Eventually, Halcandra takes Kirby away as Galacta got more and more reckless, and the further from Kirby he got, the stronger his possession.

-A side note about Galacta’s possession. As Kirby’s foil, it’s still based on his wish for a peaceful universe and having a happy family. His corruption twists and distorts this desire to protect into something incredibly malicious.

-Hence, the destruction of Halcandra, the rescue of Kirby, and Galacta’s prompt removal from time by the Jambandrans. As a sort of bleak poetry, he really did become the super weapon they feared, just not in the way they thought ):

I’ve lost to temptation so here it is

My interpretation of magolor lets fucking go

So first section: How this bitch works

So Magolor is from Halcandria, a planet who’s core is essentially magic. There’s so much magic on this single planet that it leaked into the life and even some objects that could contain it. Magolor is no exception. Magic energy is essentially stored in a second heart (tho it’s more of a container than a heart), and runs through the body very similar to blood. It’s created and flows through his body, and allows for things like his eye glow, floating, and obviously powers. When he’s asleep, it regenerates. If there’s already enough magic energy while he’s asleep, it disposes of the old magic mostly by floating in sleep or by more severe means like insomnia aka magical overdose (which I’ve gone over before).

Next, is the glowing eyes!! Why he have that, I’ll tell ya. It makes it easier to detect other halcandrians as well as make it easier to detect light such as fire. Which is very useful when you need to look through ashy clouds and make sure a giant rock isn’t about to slam into you from above. It’s also a way to show the health of a halcandrian. Though the eyes glow yellow, they have a brown color very similar to their fur. If they’re sick or very unhealthy, they lose their glow and it slowly reverts to the brown color.

As a side effect of the master crown though, Magolor’s magic energy got boosted by the crown so he didn’t just die instantly by overwhelming power. It sounds like a good thing on paper, having so much energy to the point where he can fight non stop without getting tired magically, but magic overdose due to him not being able to deplete enough of it fast enough is a bitch. He gets sick a lot easier, bad insomnia, as well as occasionally using magic without realizing. So this clears out how he works and shit!! Now onto...

Before RTDL

So before RTDL Magolor had little social skills or experience with interacting with other people that wasnt lying to them to get them to do stuff. It was just how Halcandria worked. People kept to themselves and if you needed help you’d have to twist the truth in order to convince them. Relationships of any kind are very rare in Halcandria as well.

So when he met Marx, it was weird. He originally planned to let him stay until he got better and told him about why he was found in a Nova’s wreckage, so he could hopefully get Marx to lead him to something else he could use to defeat Landia. It didn’t go as planned. Marx was an unpredictable dude who immeadiatly fell for Magolor (but mags didn’t notice cause he’s never experienced someone else crushing or a crush) and due to that Marx spent a lot of time with Magolor during recovery and grew on him. He also ended up showing Magolor what friendship was, and honestly: magolor liked it. He liked having someone around. It was a nice change, and it was nice to have someone around to help (and rarely give him affection). So, Magolor wanted Marx to rule the universe with him once he killed Landia. He didn’t want Marx to leave. Though things started going downhill when an accident happened one time while exploring and Magolor was distracted, leaving to Marx having to use Nova’s power to make sure Magolor was safe.

And Magolor was fascinated, and god he was excited. He pried Marx for questions about his wings, constantly stared at them when they were out, and started talking about if he and Marx used their combined powers they could finally kill Landia and get what they want. But Marx didn’t want to. His want for power by then left, and he knew the consequences. He was happy just hanging out with Mags, and didn’t want to risk his life fighting a dragon with a crown of infinite power. But Magolor, despite liking the change of company, was used to being a loner and believed he could do it again since he’s halcandrian. He said Marx could leave if he didn’t want to, and that was when Marx started to see just how desperate Magolor was for the Master Crown. It was all too similar to his own desperation with Nova, and all words were useless and failed to change Magolor’s mind. So Marx left, and Magolor continued. He felt a little bad (and lonely) but pushed it down and decided no turning back and opted to modifying the Starcutter more like a weapon and attacking Landia that way, but failing.

Though he had a backup plan, thanks to Marx. Which brings me to..

The Betrayal

So this is RTDL time, before the betrayal. His back up plan was going to the pink hero Marx ranted about and using them to get the crown. After all, if they could defeat someone with the gift of Nova’s power, they could defeat a wyvern with a crown. They landed, and Magolor met everyone, but he couldn’t stop thinking about a certain someone. Chilly, who volunteered to stay with him while the others collected the spheres and parts (tho it was because he was suspicious). Mags didn’t know this, and assumed he was being nice. So the second person who (he thought) was being friendly with him enough to stay with him, and fill that hole Marx accdientally left by leaving him. He couldn’t not get attatched. He became REALLY REALLY clingy, and did as much as he could to keep himself focused as well as make sure they were friends. It backfired, making Chilly agitated most of the time, but it also semi worked later on. Most of his time between the betrayal and his crash landing was spent monitoring everyone’s progress, and trying to get Chilly to like him so he could do what he had to do during the betrayal.

Now during the betrayal! The closer he got to achieving the crown again, the more desperate and ooc he got. By the time he was at Halcandria, there’d be no way to talk him out of it, since he was THIS close. But there was still one thing wrong that he assumed the crown would fix: he couldn’t go back to being alone. He assumed he would adjust, since that’s how it’s been for his whole life. But now, that he’s actually had two people really close to him (and one leave) that showed him affection and didn’t only use him like in Halcandria, he didn’t want to go back to being alone. He couldn’t. But he came too far to turn back, and continued anyway (not like he ever changed his mind, but he did have moments of doubt). He told Chilly to stay in the Starcutter, wanting to keep him safe, which obviously didn’t go well for him when Chilly responded with freezing the ship from the inside to stop Magolor from using it in its attacks.

And of course, when Magolor sees this, he has a moment of “oh shit I can’t let him do this. I can’t lose someone else.” And tries to convince Chilly to join him. He talks about the two of them ruling and even giving Chilly Popstar to rule. He means it. He wants someone with him, somebody that he genuinely loves and treats him like a friend. He assumed that if he didn’t force Chilly into working with him like Marx, he would join in the end. And like any person with common sense, Chilly denies, loyal to Kirby and Popstar. THIS was the moment Magolor became truly desperate, he tries to convince Chilly to join him but he can barely get any words other than “but you were only friend” out while crying (in the middle of battle lol). Kirby and everyone take this chance to attack, while Magolor is just kind of broken. He fucked up again.

And he’ll be alone.

He has one thing left now, and that’s the power to rule the universe.

And he’s desperate to have this one thing go right for him, and he uses the remaining power of the Master Crown... which brings me to the next topic!

The Master Crown

Full section for the master crown let’s go. It gets its dark power from a leader/creator of dark matter (think 0), and is sentient. It only knows to shroud the world in darkness, and will do whatever it takes to get it. It’s powers are held at bay by Landia, who is Halcandria’s guardian and can resist its powers due to being a magic guardian. Magolor however, isn’t a magic guardian, and can’t resist. To him, it’s a shiny piece of jewelry that’ll make him strong so things can finally go his way.

The way it works is by drawing people in, like a venus fly trap. It just amplify people’s interest in it, as well as bring out the more negative traits about them that makes them easier to control. The most common traits is desperation, impulsiveness, frustration, and determination. And once the crown is on their head, it locks on and is irremovable and works like a parasite, basically completely erasing whoever put it on and molding them to the perfect puppet. Magolor essentially just sped up the process completely by using the last of its power in a desperate attempt to get what he wanted.

After the Betrayal

Magolor, after the betrayal, is left just floating around Another Dimension. He’s exhausted, in a lot of pain, and completely magically drained. He couldn’t even float if he tried, and that uses the bare minimum of magic. He’s stuck here for a long time, and at first, he’s extremely frustrated and upset. He spends a lot of time replaying the events in his head (not magolor soul, he has no memories of that aside from snippets that come into his dreams that are partially due to the master crown’s lasting effect) and just getting more and more angry at everything. He was so close to having control over EVERYTHING, and he lost it over himself the second he used the rest of the power. He was infuriated that he manged to let that stupid puffball beat him, along with their friends.

He cries, screams, shouts, but it doesn’t matter. Rage can only last so long, and it’s not much before he’s just exhausted and tired. He’s given up on escaping, knowing he can’t. He cant form a dimensional portal strong enough to pull him out of a dimension. He only has the skill to use it for teleportation. After a few days, he’s accepted what happened, that this is his fate. He hates being alone, floating in space with no silly jester to crack a joke or scratch his head, and no snowman who’s bell jingled with an adorable tune whenever he laughed and even gave him hugs. He ends up getting habits of scratching his head (despite the pain because of master crown injuries) and hugging himself as a way to fill that hole the two left when leaving. He misses them, and starts to regret going after the crown in the first place. He comes up with scenarios in his head to pass the time as he basically waits for himself to rot. He imagines apologizing and having his friends back. He imagines Marx somehow finding him similar to how Magolor found him. He imagines not being alone, and being happy. Not plagued by agonizing exhaustion and self fury. He even comes to miss Kirby and their friend one he actually realizes the kindness they showed him, since he was too focused before to realize.

He spends a few days in the hell dimension before he finds something. He ends up finding an energy sphere that floats past that was lost during the battle. He grabs and clings to it, now having only one thing from before. It doesn’t make the loneliness any better, but it does make things a little less bareable. But of course, energy spheres are a sphere doomer’s favorite snack, and it doesn’t take long before one comes along really wanting it.

Magolor at first, pushes it away desperate to keep this one thing he had before, and the sphere doomer keeps coming back desperately wanting its food. Eventually, Magolor and the sphere doomer form a slight bond since this was when Magolor started slowly regaining magic again and tries attacking it with his revolution orbs, but it’s just a treat for the sphere doomer. The sphere doomer keeps coming back for more treats and another attempt at a snack, and Magolor feels a little less lonely. Over time, he actually gains enough of its trust to pet it and even talks to it. He names her Lor II.

Lor II is the reason he gets out of Another Dimension and back to Halcandria, via opening a rift. Lor II basically gives Magolor a second chance to make things right, and he immeadiatly takes it. Of course, he has to steal the Starcutter to do it, but he makes his way to Popstar to apologize, because he REALLY regrets his major fuck up and at the very least, he can make things better (and maybe get a chance at being less lonely).

“I knew we never should’ve trusted Susie,” Marx grumbled, his hat and scarf whipping wildly in the freezing wind as he rolled on his ball. “A few words and this is where we are.”

“Sh-shut up for a m-moment, would you, Marx? If S-Susie’s lying, th-then we c-can beat her up after we get b-back, but right n-now, I need that g-gear from the remains of Star D-Dream,” Magolor retorted, surveying the white landscape. “The Lor needs Ancient tech i-if I want t-to get it up and f-flying again.”

The jester looked the mage over, not surprised to see that he was shivering. “Mags, if you die out here, I won’t ever forgive you~”

“I s-said sh-shut up, M-Marx...”

“Alright, alright, just teasing, Mags! But really though, I’m serious-”

“Th-that’s a h-horrif-fying th-thought...”

“Really, Magolor! No joke, you’re going to die if we don’t take shelter soon! This storm is much worse than we need to be in! Screw Susie, our lives are on the line here!”

Magolor drifted closer to Marx, suddenly picking him up. “I-I suppose y-you’re right-”

“Sweet Nova, Mags, you’re like a block of ice! We really need to get out of here!” The jester leapt out of the egg mage’s grip, snatched the mage’s hood in his teeth, and took flight. 

“M-m-marx, w-where are we g-going...” Marx didn’t answer, since his mouth was full, and instead tossed Magolor into a tree cleft that sheltered them from most of the wind. He landed and hopped into the cleft with his friend, humming approvingly at the dry leaves that covered the ground. 

The jester scooted closer to the mage, making sure to exude as much heat as possible. “Not as good as a hotel bed, but maybe we should share some body heat, Mags?”

“A-all you n-needed to d-do was a-ask to c-cuddle, you k-know...” Magolor’s eyes drifted shut and his hands fell limp- something that didn’t pass by Marx.

“Mags? Mags. Magolor. Wake the hell up, you stupid egg! You have fire magic, dumbass!”

The mage grunted, opening one eye halfway before sitting up. “I d-do! M-Marx, y-you f-fucking genius...” Marx kicked some of the dry leaves away so the whole tree wouldn’t light on fire, and one magical fire orb later, there was a warm fire in the middle. 

“Should we still...” Marx gazed at Magolor with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“Cuddle? Yeah, sure.” Magolor hugged the jester close to his body, and the jester pressed a kiss to the mage’s face.

Minutes of silence later, Magolor felt really sleepy, but he felt the need to tell his companion something. “Hey, Marx..?”

Marx was just as tired as he was, if not more. “Yeah, Mags?”

“I think... you were right for once. Screw Susie and Iloveyousomuch-”

“What was the last part? And screw Susie...”

“Iloveyousomuchpleasebemyboyfriend.”

“Ok, ok, whatever, love you too, you stupid egg...”

“Shut up Marx...”

Hello! I was so deeply touched to see this submission on Christmas Day! This is so adorable, and I really love how you even gave Meta Knight and Kirby similar hair, so it really looks like they’re siblings! I had hoped to return the favor by finishing up the next chapter of DLU for you, but sadly, it looks like it’s still a couple days out. However, below the cut I have added a sneak peek with some Meta Knight and Kirby sibling bonding.

Kirby Stellarum widened his eyes and stared at his reflection. He was thinking about what Susie had said about him trying white eyeliner. Would it really make his eyes look better? His mom wouldn’t like it, but she couldn’t really control what he did when he was at DLU. Kirby wrinkled his brow and then leaned back. He tried emulating the way Meta Knight looked. That sort of effortless confidence. But the expression looked all wrong on Kirby.

Knock, knock, knockknockknock!

 Kirby jumped and looked over his shoulder. “Come in!” he exclaimed.

The door opened, and Meta Knight peeked inside. “Good morning again,” he said.

Speak of Dark Matter! Kirby smiled. He had spent the past couple of hours worrying that his mom’s comment might have made Meta Knight avoid him. 

“Good morning,” Kirby replied.

Quick! Think of something to talk about.

Kirby self-consciously ran his hands through his thick hair, trying to tame some of its wayward fluff. “I, um, came back and went to bed after we talked,” Kirby said sheepishly.

“I did, too,” Meta Knight replied. “Dedede just looked so peaceful in the bed. I just couldn’t bear to wake him.”

“Oh.” Kirby paused. “Did you want to talk or something? You’re here, and you closed the door.”

“I think a better question is, what do you want from me?” Meta Knight said.

“Want from you?”

“As your sibling. Your brother. I feel like we need to have serious conversation about boundaries and acceptable behavior.”

Kirby plopped onto the bed beside Meta Knight. “Okay,” Kirby said, clasping his hands in his lap. “Why do—um—you want?”

“To be a tolerable brother.”

“Only tolerable?”

“I have no illusions about how awkward I really am,” Meta Knight replied. “I like to keep my goals reasonable.”

“I want you to touch me,” Kirby said. “I went my whole life without anyone but my mom being able to touch me, and she isn’t really big on physical affection. And then, I met you. You’re my brother, and I love you. And I guess you kind of like me. And that’s fine. I don’t expect you to love me, but could you…maybe try being just a little more affectionate?”

“Affection is too broad for me to make effective changes. Besides, when I try being affectionate, I do it wrong.”

“Are you really so bothered by what my mom said?”

Meta Knight paused. “She’s right, though. I don’t know any siblings who act quite like we do. Maybe I’m just not good at this. Maybe I need to do more research to figure out how to interact with you.”

“But we’re not talking about any siblings. We’re talking about us, and how we want to behave towards one another,” Kirby replied, looking at his lap, “And that’s how I want us to behave. You asked. But if you don’t want to do it, that’s fine. I…I wanted a sibling my entire life. I need other people to love me, okay? And I get the feeling that you…you need that, too. But you take a while to warm.”

“You think so?”

“I think you actively try to be cold towards people, so they don’t disappoint you,” Kirby said. “That’s why you never tell people everything you know. That’s why you won’t forgive Magolor or Marx and why you think the worst of Susie when she hasn’t done anything to you.”

“But—”

“And when you and I went to the palace together, most of the time I looked at you, you just…you looked so stony. Like you were afraid of me knowing what you might be thinking. And you don’t look that way around Dedede.”

“Well, I love Dedede, so—” Meta Knight cut off abruptly.

“I know you do,” Kirby replied, his shoulders slumping, “And I don’t blame you for the way you are. Dark Nebula treated you so badly. I can’t even imagine how…how terrible of a betrayal it must be having the childhood you did. I’m sorry. I thought that you liking me would be enough, but now, I realize that isn’t what I want. I want you to trust me.”

“I do,” Meta Knight said.

Kirby shook his head. “You didn’t tell me Susie was there when you went to see Dad.”

“How do you even know?”

“Does it matter?”

“That’s incidental,” Meta Knight replied.

“You wouldn’t tell me Dark Nebula was beating you,” Kirby said.

“We thought he was our father.”

“And?” Kirby asked. “And you don’t think I would have wanted to know that the man I thought was my dad, the only dad I know, beat you and hacked your hair off with a kitchen knife? You could have come to my apartment! You could have called me!”

“That’s not fair. I was trying to figure everything out.”

“Maybe,” Kirby replied, “But I just wonder what all else you haven’t told me about. I feel like you might like me, but you don’t trust me. I feel like you’re waiting for me to fail you like the rest of your family has. And you have this idea that we have to look like loving siblings rather than be loving siblings.”

“Maybe I am,” Meta Knight conceded.

Kirby hesitated. “You aren’t really all to blame, though,” he said. “I guess I just…you’re…”

“I’m what?”

“You’re the only family I have now,” Kirby said, “Besides Mom. I never even knew my real father. Our real father. My whole life, it was just Dark Nebula. And now that I’ve seen some of the affection Bikaia and Galacta Knight had for one another, I think I want that, too. Bikaia’s love for his friends is why we’re all here again. Can you imagine loving everyone that much? And waiting for so long, so many years., just to see everyone again.”

“I’m sorry,” Meta Knight said. “I’ve been such a failure.”

“You haven’t been a failure,” Kirby replied. “Promise not to return your Solstice present. That’ll be a good start.”

“You don’t think I’ll like it?”

Kirby slowly rose and dug through his backpack. He found the present, painstakingly wrapped in bright pink paper with a giant red bow. The wrapping paper had a mirror finish, and Kirby’s fingers left visible prints on it.

“You don’t have to give it to me now,” Meta Knight said. “I haven’t bought yours yet.”

“I know,” Kirby said, “But I want to.”

Kirby held out the box, and after a moment’s hesitation, Meta Knight took it, turning it over in his hands. With an awkward smile, Meta Knight shook the box. It made no noise. Slowly, Meta Knight unwrapped the gift. It was a pair of silver necklaces, a moon and a star linked together.

“They break apart,” Kirby said, rocking back on his heels. “They’re best brother necklaces. Well, not really. They’re more general purpose necklaces. Best friends, whatever. But I—”

Meta Knight snapped the star and moon apart. “So we each get one?” he asked.

“Yes.”

Meta Knight took the crescent moon for himself and latched the necklace around his neck. Then, he stood and clasped the star necklace around Kirby’s neck.

“I like them a lot,” Meta Knight said. “Thank you.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

It'd certainly put Marx into the same boat as all the other Modern 2D era Kirby bosses, because boy did all of them end up eating some bad bargains. Taranza simply wanted a gift for his love. Haltmann simply wanted to find his daughter. I forget Hyness' motives off the top of my head, but his ambitions were also twisted. Even Magolor clearly bit off more than he could chew.

I like this, yes! Considering that Kumazaki invented Marx Soul, it's not out of line to assume he sprinkled some of that Kumazaki-style deep characterization dust on him!

As to Hyness, there's a bit in the "Nintendo Dream" interviews stating that he was always bad. Not to praise him with one hand and cross him with the other, but Kumazaki tells us Marx has an "evil soul" and signed off on Novel-verse Magolor, so I'd say there's room for interpretation on how evil "evil" is in Kirby?

Anyway,  looking at Hyness specifically with the same sympathetic lens we tend to view the Wave 3 + Marx gang, we can believe his prayers to Void were originally were about finding a way to help the Jamba diaspora. But that when Hyness thought about the awful hand they'd been dealt for, y'know, SAVING EVERYONE, his mind couldn't help but turn toward bitterness and hatred of those who'd cast them out, and his prayers morphed into a wish for vengeance - to deal that same bad hand to the entire cosmos.

More recent than Hyness even, we have Leon entering Lab Discovera because he wished to harness the power that allowed humanity the Ancients to flourish. And he found it, but THEY were no longer interested in being part of a one-sided bargain - one where they weren't on top. So Leon gets mind-controlled for his troubles.

But yes, I like "his hurt causes him to wish for the wrong thing in the heat of the moment and he gets looped into having to do it anyway and/or die" Marx + Marx Soul. 

At least, that would be my "Kumazaki-style Marx."

Speaking of Marx and his ties to the Kumazaki villains...
